Hey, it's Friday and National Slinky Day! Our community project for today: wear your most frivolous fragrance. Extra points if it's frivolous AND an enduring classic.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
Me: maybe not quite an enduring classic, but the best I could come up with while staying frivolous and weather-appropriate — Diptyque Oyédo.
Reminder: on 9/6 we're doing Best in Class...you decide the category, then wear the best.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Goldfield & Banks Pacific Rock Moss. Wow! A great marine scent. Love the blue color of the juice! Perfect for a very warm, sunny summer day. Heading to the shore for a long walk and lunch after work today. I have not had the chance this season to be near the water. Counting the hours to be out of here! ☀️??
Happy Friday, everyone!
So envious of your after-work plans! I love the coast and haven’t walked on a beach in what feels like years. Have a lovely time!
Thank you, SheriG! As a beach lover, I used to spend lot of time at the beach before. For the past 2 years, I have not gone more than 2-3 times. I am so excited I can make it today!
It is so good for the soul to get outside and walk near trees or water – just out in nature!!
Agree! Nothing more peaceful and relaxing than being in touch with Mother Nature!
Absolutely, nature is the best stress relief.
Hope you have a wonderful seaside walk and a weekend of rest and relaxation!
Thank you, Deva! Hope you and T-Rex have a nice and relaxing weekend too!
Yay you! Enjoy the beach ?
Thank you, Lillyjo! ??
I knew you would love that one!!!!!!!!
the ocean is so peaceful, right? Aside for your shared love of marine/ocean scents that is another thing you have in common with my eldest 🙂
Twins with your eldest Marzipan! I am so glad to hear she loves the beauty of the ocean and the peace it gives.
Enjoy the beach! It’s such a perfect day to be by the water, too.
Thank you! It’s gorgeous outside right now!
Oh your beach walk sounds wonderful!
It was very nice and the day was beautiful!
I’ve copied Robin and am wearing Demeter Beetroot.
🙂
Does it smell like dirt? Beets smell (and taste) like dirt to me. I love them cooked or pickled, but I had beet juice once from an (obviously) uncooked beet, and while I didn’t hate it, it strongly tasted like cool, shady dirt.
Jumping in here to say that I did think Demeter Beetroot smelled like dirt – but good dirt, like the dark black stuff that’s really great for growing things.
I’m in Eau Claire des Merveilles. My frivolity tie-ins: (a) I’m wearing it by itself mostly to drain it to the same level as the bottle of Eau des Merveilles (I layer them two-to-one so Claire is behind), definitely a frivolous reason to wear it; and (b) quite often when I reach for the bottle, Barbra Streisand pops into my head singing On A Clear Day You Can See Forever, which of course is followed by remembering the very frivolous film by that name with her and Yves Montand (I think?). (I actually love that movie.) Anyway, Eau Claire is beautiful on its own and I should wear it this way more often for THAT reason and not just because it makes me think silly things. Happy Friday!
You smell lovely!
It’s a ridiculous movie but very fun. I wanted her apartment and terrace. And a young Jack Nicholson…
I completely forgot about that movie! So frivolous! I wonder if it can be streamed? Would love to see it again.
I have actually never seen the movie but my mother had the soundtrack album and played it a lot. I checked JustStream and you can rent it for 2.99 from a lot of sites.
Oh, I LOVE all your connections to that scent! ?
I don’t get the CP this week, I am in Frangipani by Lili Bermuda
After yesterday’s comments I am lemming vintage Alliage by EL.
Tea is Marco Polo
Just started to read the book Educated. A bit different after Song of Achilles
I am about to read that as well. I didn’t see you post about Song of Achilles – did you like that one?
I loved it! I also read Circe
Song of Achilles is about the love between Achilles and Patroclus
I bought Song for our Europe vacation and it was a great summer read. If you are interested I can send it to you ? I bought it brand new from the Corner bookshop
Oh, thanks, so nice of you to offer – I’ll probably get it on Kindle for travel.
I am lemming both books! I have samples downloaded.
?
After my grumpy review of Song, I am piping in to say that I really enjoyed (enjoyed is a poorly chosen verb here, but you know what I mean) Educated!
So what do you think of Aliage, Ltsg?
I haven’t smelled it yet!
After yesterday’s comments I have to find some
The EL counter at Macy’s still has their classics line-up, last I was there.
Enabler ???
You have to ask…a lot of times they don’t display it. But…if you like it, I recommend trying to get vintage. Today’s version is watered down to my nose.
Test it ltsg…but bear in mind it’s been reformulated and isn’t the same as the original from the 1970s…
Do you like it?
Yes. It’s one of those “crunchy green” chypres from the 70s but it’s softer and more floral than Azuree. Imo it’s worth looking for older versions of the genre because of the current ban on oakmoss.
About to start Educated as well! Thanks for reminding me to buy that. It’s our next book club book.
Guerlain Insolence EDP – frivolous name and playful scent.
I am not having a very good week so far. Injury on Sunday (and it is expected to take weeks to heal), malfunctioning fridge today (and since the fridge is old, I am worried that it is beyond repair and I will have to buy a new one). Ugh. I am trying to lift my mood with fun scents – Rosa Pop on Tuesday, Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate on Wednesday and Insolence today.
Oh no! Thinking of you and hoping things will heal faster and turn out better than your worry.
Welcome back! I wondered where you’d disappeared to. Hope your injury heals quickly and completely.
Hope you recover soon!
Ugh, so sorry Glannys! You do smell entirely frivolous despite all the worries.
?
So sorry, Glannys! Hope things improve for you soon and your healing is swift.
Oh gosh! So sorry for the injury to your physical body, and really hoping the fridge doesn’t end up injuring your pocketbook! Pretty sure you smell delightfully frivolous! ??
So sorry about your injury and hope you heal quickly! Glad to see you, though ?
Thinking of you
Oh my. I’m sorry for you having such a week. Hoping for a very bright spot this weekend.
Insolence was almost my choice today. You smell great.
Here’s hoping that the new :Sunday starts a much better week for you and wishing you a speedy recovery!
I’m sorry two bad events have ganged up on you this week! I hope you feel better soon and your fridge can be fixed easily.
I hope you will heal much faster than predicted and that the fridge will recover, too (ours sometimes does worrisome things and then stops doing them).
I hope you recover quickly (and the fridge too)! Hang tough, and stay as positive as your scent!
Oh, boo hiss on your terrible week! Sending you wishes for fast healing. ?
Oh no! That’s a rotten week. I hope it ends on a much better note and that you can rest up this weekend.
Hang in there Glannys! Hoping you feel better and heal fast.
Oh no, sending you positive healing vibes.
Smellbent Dead of Winter – a frivolous unsniffed buy from a couple of years ago (light anise/vanilla/musk) and worn in the dead of summer. (Or at least toward the end of summer!) Definitely not an enduring classic and although I like it now and then, I’m already bored with it today and planning to move on to Hermes Jardin Sur le Nil later. Happy Friday, all!
PS For those who like licorice-y fragrances, Reglisse Noire is MUCH more interesting.
I almost wore this today! Smell Bent has a lot of great frivolous options and I kind of love them for it.
Yes, that’s what their “bent” is! 😀
REGLISSE!!! Yes!!! not only my favorite licorice but one of my all time favorite perfumes.
???
I always think of you when I see that perfume mentioned.?
?? could it be because I wore it three and a half weeks straight in the spring and thunked my bottle? LOL ? ?
In the frivolously named I Miss Violet.
I love that name. The fragrance is fun, too, but more classy than it sounds.
It totally agree– classy or gothic, but not a frivolous scent!
I always associate this perfume with you. You smell lovely.
I do really love this perfume, and am irrationally flattered that you associate it with me. My errrr let’s charitably say generous proportions and frequently messy thick hair stuck into a bun with a pencil, with coffee stains on my sleeves from wiping wet mug rings off my old wooden desk, belies my inner Miss Violet!
I don’t have any perfumes that seem especially frivolous to me, so instead I’m wearing this extra-frivolous scented lotion: Hempz Peppermint Marshmallow Creme whipped body creme.
I smell like a peppermint sugar cookie.
Excellent! And I think it’s Toasted Marshmallow Day so you should get extra points for that.
Nice! I will happily accept the unintentional extra credit.
Yummy
To frivol with you, I did a deep dive into my giveaway sample bag to retrieve Shooting Stars: Blue Hope, the Xerjoff fragrance that “combines fresh citrus and delicate spices with a delectably sexy vanilla-based drydown.” Translation: “spend $440 to smell like a creamsicle.”
Oh, you are twinning with thegoddessrena in creamsicle scents! ?
It does have a somewhat frivolous name, too!
In “Silk Stockings”. Frivolous name at least. Reading “We’ll always have Paris” by Emma Beddington, which is actually much less frivolous than it sounded becore I started reading.
I like the match with the reading, even if it turns serious 🙂
My frivolous pick is Alien Flora Futura. An impulse buy of a FOURTH Alien that I certainly didn’t need, but I had a gift card I wanted to use instead of save. A perfume acquired solely for the sake of it.
I do like it, but not as much as my other summer Alien (Eau Extraordinaire).
What are the other Aliens that you have? ?
Eau Extraordinaire, Essense Absolue, and the original. 🙂
It sounds like you and lillyjo are the resident experts on TM Alien. ?
Wait! I forgot I also have Musc Mysterioux ?
Smelling like a beautiful Creamsicle in Anne Pliska–best I can do for fun and classic
Oh, that’s a lovely one and rarely seen in the wild! You smell wonderful!
creamsicle frivolity twins
Ooh yes, that is the best creamsicle I’ve tried!
I am wearing Guerlain Jicky today, drinking a cup of linden blossom tea, and trying to adjust to American time after being in the Mediterranean area for 13 days.
Last night we had my parents and my husband’s parents over for dinner. It was exhausting (because I am still trying to unpack and wash clothes), but a fun evening. I am glad I got to see them. It was a wonderful trip, but I started to miss my family towards the end of it. Tonight we are having dinner with our son and our daughter in law. We missed his birthday being out of town, so we’ll be celebrating his birthday a few days late.
Happy Friday !
Happy belated to your son.
Thank you !
Welcome home, and happy birthday Barqs Junior!
Thanks Robin! It was a fun night and so good to see them both!
Not sure if it counts as frivolous but was thinking of going with Apogee today. I have not yet tried it, so, curious.
I’d consider everything outside of the essentials (food, shelter, warmth, etc.) to be frivolous, so I have been spot on the community project all week. Please notify the historians, because it’s unlikely to happen again soon. ?
I’m in Indochine today and currently making my pour over, which smells better than I do, but the combo is out of this world!
Yesterday, I biked 15 miles with my new ear buds, which I quite like. They cost a scosh more than my last ones, but are wireless Bluetooth that sit in their charging case when I’m not using them. Hoping that will decrease the chance of them disappearing in this bottomless pit of a van. Baby T-Rex had a day of rest, other than some light chuck-it ball, because she was feeling a bit droopy after her vaccine.
Trying to decide if I should zip down to Fargo today and check it out. We’ve been in a state park across the river in Minnesota that last 4 days. Doggo has especially enjoyed not traveling because she get a bit tired of navigating. She takes that job quite seriously. I wish she would curl up and go to sleep like most dogs, but she has to make sure I take the correct turn. A canine back seat driver…?
Happy friYAY!
I looove the mingling of coffee and whatever perfume I’m wearing when I make my pour-over. I bet Indochine is fabulous with coffee.
T-Rex is an awesome travel buddy! ?
She is the best. I ran into a guy the other day while I was out with her. Of course, she wanted to go say hello, but he told me right off the bat:
Him: “I don’t like dogs!”
Me: “OK”
T-Rex: Wag, wag, wag as she looks at him adoringly
Him: “That one’s not too bad, I guess.” Gives her a grudging pat on the head.
T-Rex: CHA-Ching! I won another one over! Lots of wagging and dancing, with eyes sparkling!
Me: ??
Hehe, can’t resist her charms!
I met my brother’s dog for the 1st time on my L.A. trip last week. When I got to the door my SIL instructed me not to make eye contact with him. At all, ever. I made the mistake of doing that when he jumped up on the couch next to me and then nearly lunged and me. The dog is extremely territorial and I found out later that he actually bit my father last year! I love dogs, but I was actually afraid of this guy and for some reason they think obedience training isn’t necessary since he’s fine with the family ?
Well, that’s a terrible thing waiting to happen. Hate to think of the damage it may cause to a child. No dog needs INTENSE obedience and behavioral help more than a dog like that. Sad to say, your brother is creating a dog that will probably end up being euthanized. No dog should ever bite a human, unless it’s in self defense. That behavior will escalate. Really, no obedience “class” will even deal with aggressive dogs anymore (and his behavior towards you IS aggression). They just don’t want the liability. The dog and your brother need a behaviorist before something terrible happens.
Yikes! My friend has a dog that is also unpredictable though not territorial but she has worked with her tirelessly to improve – but when we stayed with them, I kept telling my kids “do not even look in the direction of that dog” even as the dog was laying her head on their legs to be petted. I agree, a dog that actually bites rather than snaps is a real problem.
+1 Deva!
Behavioral trainers can do wonders, and it sounds like your family members are dedicated enough to get more training. It isn’t an obedience issue it is ‘reactivity’ I know first hand and it is often anxiety based. Thank goodness you are ok.
Do you mind telling us what earbuds? I bought some Bluetooth ones, but they don’t have a charging case. So, I’m always on the lookout for new ideas.
I got them at Best Buy. A bit pricey (at least for me) but they were the only “mid-range” model they had on hand. The selection went from about $14 to >$200! Probably cheaper on amazon, but I didn’t want to wait.
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/jlab-audio-jbuds-air-sport-true-wireless-in-ear-headphones-black/6344791.p?skuId=6344791
Ha – love this whole post. Thinking of you, Deva!
Aw, we thank you for thinking of us! Likewise! Sending lots of dog love your way. ?
Thanks!
My girl pup is highly supervisional when I’m in the kitchen. In a vehicle, she’s crashed out like a toddler in the back seat. ?
Well, any time you want to switch doggo’s for a week or two, let me know. Mine doesn’t have an off button, but there is a “pause” button when dinner is done and sun goes down. Just a minute ago, it was suspiciously quiet, so I checked in with doggo, who I find is in the middle of the fire pit, chewing on a discarded rib bone.? If you’d like to supervise this one, let me know. I’d be grateful a a dog that sleeps when traveling. And I don’t have a kitchen per sé, so your girly would be a delight!
Awww, I would love to meet you and your pupper! Mine is a Jack Russell mix, so she doesn’t really have an off button, either! If you’re ever in Texas, do look us up. ?
I just imagined T Rex with a road map ?
She has a whole atlas! ?
https://www.instagram.com/p/BaFi8qNh9u7/?igshid=vjcqack79dj6
Our dog thinks it’s his job to keep dogs he doesn’t know out of any area he considers his. The car, the dog park, the restaurant patio…He’s like “see? I’m keeping the riffraff out. Reward me.” I would love to learn how to get this idea out of his head.
My frivolous pick is Salvador Dali Laguna, a mini of which I claimed in a freebie meet for the bottle and because I enjoyed Kevin’s review of it:
https://nstperfume.com/2009/08/19/salvador-dali-laguna-fragrance-review/
I like the fruity top notes, but the warm, creamy base feels a bit heavy today. All in all, it’s trashy good fun ?
Looking forward to the long weekend!
Perfect!
Well, it’s actually getting on my nerves right now, lol. The base is making me a tad queasy in the heat. I tried…
Oops, sorry!
I am wearing Guerlain Nahema, enjoying the change of seasons and a little cooler temperature.
Planning a trip in a week so I have lots to do before .
You smell wonderful! ?
I’m enjoying the cooler weather too – perfect perfume weather. Enjoy your trip!
Kerosene Black Vines today, I wore it for K week and it smelled so good and fun that I’ve been looking forward to wearing it for the CP today. Love those big black jelly beans that are so terrible for teeth, blood sugar etc that I need to smell them rather than eat them.
I need to sniff that knee. Love a good licorice.
I considered that one for today!
Viva la Juicy for me right now. Frivolous because I got it on the cheap, unsniffed, a few years back and have never worn it. And, it was purchased pretty much solely for the little 15 ml bottle with a pink bow.
Great call!
I have a new project!
Not even one week since I left the death spiral project.
Whoo hoo!
The clean out continues – have habitat for humanity and another group coming next week.
Facial later today. I have been wearing goop#1 now called church and have been getting compliments galore. ya never know.
My sister and her son, DIL and grandkids are all in Florida. My best friend in Ft. Lauderdale. All in harms way of the hurricane. Year after year I have played the waiting game of hurricane season. Sister out picking up some foster kitties from local shelter to care for although Miso the alpha kitty might not like it.
Congrats on your new project! Hope it goes swimmingly. Yeah, the Florida situation is always stressful. I’m so over it and can’t wait to sell my house so I can stop worrying. What is the goop#1? Is it a moisturizer and what? My face needs all the help it can get! ?
Deva, your home on Gulf Coast, yes?
Have been going through this for over 50 years since my parents were part of the wave of New Yorkers to move there.
They were close to Indian Rocks Beach until they moved up to by near my sis.
Rather deal with earthquakes
Goop#1 is a GP scent. It’s quite lovely, close to skin and incense, a little smoky. I love incense based and this one is wearable under all circumstances.
HOW COULD I FORGET??? 55 years ago today we saw The Beatles in Atlantic City!!
Ha! My bad, I was thinking the goop was some type of face cream/moisturizer/acid to improve the look and texture of skin. Duh!
And the BEATLES! In Atlantic City?! It must have been amazing!
Yes, I’m in St. Petersburg, just talked to my neighbor, who was headed to Walmart for provisions…????
yes it was. My dad took us on his 40th birthday – he would have been 95 today. I have my program framed. How I kept it all these years and moves I will never know.
They had on their Nehru jackets. And Dusty Springfield opened.
yeah, yeah, yeah
Can you tell us more about the fragance? Is it smoky? old wood? incense? Thanks!
Congratulations on your new project, and “stay safe” wishes to your loved ones in FL.
Passage d’Enfer…if anyone can help me figure out how to tie it into the CP I would appreciate that.
Wearing it because I have a decant and sent some to a dear friend. She loves it and isn’t a fan of incense. I am wearing it to see if a) I can smell it and b) if it lasts….when I wore it in the past the answer was no to both a and b.
TGIF
Does it translate to something along the lines of “Fantastic Voyage”?
If so, it’s a great fit for this, which just happens to be one of my favorites.
https://youtu.be/ibcDHmTCt-I
Quite frivolous though ?
Ha! Thanks, Deva, perfect!!
CM I love PdE. A BUB available at all times.
Does it last for you? Today it was a bit better with longevity and projection. It’s a pretty incense. Wearable and unchallenging.
It lasts because I spray with abandon!
It is not a particularly frivolous scent, but as I am in the cone of uncertainty I felt failry devil may care spritzing on Un Jardin après la Mousson this morning.
I love Apres la Mousson! It doesn’t seem to get much attention or love these days, but I think it’s terrific.
Solstice Scents Chiffon…the weekend cometh and a 3 day one at that!
I’m probably overthinking this but am having difficulty establishing any relationship between Slinky Day, frivolous and classic. If frivolous means lacking in seriousness or importance then it wouldn’t be enduring, or a classic, would it? Yes, definitely overthinking.
So I’m sticking with just the classic, vintage Coty L’Aimant, just beautiful on what feels like a fall morning. Getting ready to celebrate 8 birthdays tonight! My grand twins will be 12 tomorrow and have been spending the last couple of days of summer vacation with me. My 2 older cats, known as The Sisters, were just 4 – one of the two friends who gave them to us and rescued their pregnant mother’s life – just had a birthday and they are both coming over – they also have the Two Brothers. And, last but not least, it’s nearly a year since I found Little Bear, the tiny motherless Bad Kitty lookalike, probably 3-4 weeks old, and learned how to bottlefeed a kitten! She’s made a home with us, too, and on an unknown date, she just became 1 years old.
Perhaps celebrating 3 human and 5 feline birthdays together could be considered frivolous? No doubt, it’s pretty silly!
Wishing everyone a bit of fun and frivolity this weekend!
Wow, that’s a lot of birthdays! Have fun!!?
One twin is designing a program for tonight’s festivities.
All fantastic reasons to celebrate✌?
The other twin is practicing a musical accompaniment of Three Blind Mice on the piano. The ??? are enthralled.
Laila, a slinky *is* a frivolous classic, right? That was why I added the extra points for classic 🙂
Ah, gotcha! Thanks for the tie-in, Robin. Slinky is definitely a classic; it was an integral part of my long-ago childhood, just never thought of it as frivolous before now. ?
So much fun! Enjoy the birthdays celebration! ??????
Both twins will be performing a dramatization of The Happy Birthday, Bad Kitty book. (If you’ve never read a Bad Kitty book, you need to!)
How sweet! Sounds like a nice interspecies celebration ??. Happy Birthday to everyone- and Little Bear is a lucky kitty to have found you!
Thank you. I do call her Nuisance Little Bear sometimes, for which my friend chastises me severely. I fear the humans will be somewhat shortchanged tonight!
I love it! Best birthday wishes all around.
Thank you. We’re making a giant S’Mores cookie to serve with ice cream – that’s what I’m looking forward to!
That sounds like a wonderful time, no matter what. Hopefully your “bad kitty” will behave during the festivities.
She did, and a good time was had by all.
SotD is Confetto. I looked through all my scents to see what I had that seemed frivolous and this was it. Maybe because the juice is pink, or maybe because the name almost looks like confetti? Who knows.
Finished my paper this morning and it feels good to have that weight lifted off my shoulders. This afternoon involves pedicures for me and my girls, then lunch and shopping. A real ladies day. Tomorrow we will drop my older daughter off at college and I am oddly so at peace with it. A total 180 from how I was a year ago when I had to sneak away to my bedroom, shut the door and have good cry. She did so well last year…academically, socially, mentally…all of my anxiety is gone. I will definitely miss her, she’s been a true joy to have around this summer, but as my dad has reminded me, we raise children to send them out into the world. As hard as that may be.
Well done on finishing you’re paper, enjoy the girly time with you’re daughters!
Thanks mayfly! I love a good ladies day!
Aww, gosh, this makes me tear up and I’m not even related! You must be SO proud of her!
Aww,lol, thanks Deva! She’s a good kid. Yes, grades are important but at the end of the day they are just letters. I am most proud of her character and what a good heart she has.☺️
Enjoy your ladies day!
Thanks pl67! Enjoy your walk along the shore!
Awesome news about everything!!! And when they graduate college and land their first job you will be incredibly proud. Relish these moments….they go by so fast!!!
Oh and Confetti reminds me of Pink Sugar which I confess to liking. That might be considered a frivolous classic.
I hear you! The very moment we hope for, and then it slays us. I too have felt surprisingly at peace with my son’s departure–it helps though knowing he’ll be back for winter break!
Glad you’ll have time to spend with your girls and congrats in getting that paper done so fast!
Congrats on getting that paper done! Enjoy your weekend!
Saw my first counselling clients today! came home and sprayed myself lavishly with Journey woman, which feels frivolous and luxurious to me.
Congrats mayfly and nice to see you! What kind of counseling are you doing?
Thanks Elisa p! I’m working with clients struggling with addiction.
Congratulations on this big step! Wishing you every success.
Thanks cazaubon!
Wearing Zeste de Soleil, cheerful despite the suddenly grey weather.
Umm…too much frivolity will send you to hell? No, this isn’t 1619. Maybe you are simply doing the anti-CP….
?
I had a hard time figuring out what perfume might be frivolous, so I decided to me it meant kind of easy and feel-good-ish, and cheery, and I went with ELDO Noel au Balcon. Honey, orange, spices, up-beat. I am interested to see how others interpreted this CP. But I also found myself wondering, are Slinkies really frivolous? Hmmm. To me, they have a kind of scientific quality that makes them seem a bit serious. It’s like you watch one doing its think and wonder how it works. We didn’t have stairs at my house, growing up, but would play with a Slinky at my grandma’s house just down the street, and it always mystified me.
I’ve been interested in that one for quite a while now. The notes just sound SO good. I agree with you on the slinky. I never had one, but the neighbor kids did and I found it fascinating. It seemed so wonderfully perfect as it went gracefully down the stairs. I just couldn’t figure it out..
I’m in Grace Coddington today, of the pink juice and cute kitty bottle. Frivolous! ?
Pink juice twin!?
Hey twin! ?
Well done!
Nice pick! ?
Still too hot and I look forward to Monday when temperature will drop by 10 degrees.
In Atelier Cologne Clementine California today. No community project points for me.
Couldn’t decide on which frivolous perfume to wear today then said screw it and went with no 19 Poudre. No, it isn’t frivolous but wanted to give it a second chance. It’s still a powdery iris that bears no resemblance to the original no 19.
Paris-Venise today. Frivolous? No. But on the other hand, how many citrusy scents can I really love? Too many apparently. ??
Good morning, and Happy FriYAY FriYAY FriYAY! What a long dadgum working week! Sheesh
I was quickly looking in my stash, trying to think “frivolity”, and decided to go with Lush Cardamom Coffee (the solid form). It’s fun, it’s office friendly, and it smells pretty awesome! Easy fun scents are frivolous? I think so…..
My busy family needs to unplug a bit this weekend, so we’re planning to drive up to Congaree National Park, and maybe Ninety-Six National Historic Site. The rat race is not my preferred lifestyle, that’s for sure! 🙂
Gearing up for all the activities that start after Labor Day, and finding some time today to watch Ep. 1 of the new Great British Bake Off season on Netflix. For frivolous, and to honor GBBO, I’m wearing Tihota. I smell like a vanilla cupcake.
I have to start watching that show! And nice tie-in with fragrance.
After easily finding frivolous perfumes all week, which I interpreted as fun, carefree, decidedly not-serious perfumes, I couldn’t think of what to wear today. Then I saw Robin’s SOTD and decided to wear a similar perfume. It’s called Eau Jaune by La Cie de Provence, a cheapie little French brand that doesn’t seem to exist any longer. Eau Jaune is a candy sweet citrus blend with some violet leaf and musk. Weirdly though today I’m getting some undertone of the musk of L’air de Rien. So I’m thinking about this perfume more than I thought I would!
So happy for Friday and a 3 day weekend!
I’m wearing Moschino Funny! which in addition to having the frivolity of all fruity florals even has a frivilous little pink ribbon necktie on the bottle.
My daughter put that on today – so we’re sorta twins.
I love this one on other ppl
PSA, fragrancenet now sells Nesti Dante soaps….in case you need to add something to quality for free shipping.
Pacifica is having a 30 percent off on last call items including Persian Rose solid and Malibu Lemon Blossom EDT
JD Jeffrey Dame has a new Musc out. You should test it so you can tell me if I want it?
Because I already do!
LOL ? ?? ?
Now I need to go look!!
It sounds promising!!! Four different musks! Wonder how it compares to the Dame New Musk. It’s a fantastic price for a full bottle.
Well, I immediately purchased a bottle of Malibu Lemon Blossom after seeing this. I used to have the solid and loved the smell of it but just don’t really wear solid perfumes. Why oh why are they discontinuing this one? I miss the old Pacifica.
Pin for me LOL ?
I feel the same way, trf, they discontinued so many fantastic scents. I can’t get over that their first fragrance, Tibetan Mountain Temple, is gone.
They are, however, finally starting to introduce new fragrances. Beach Lavender Lemon, Enchanted Woods and Moonray Bloom. I like them all.
Oh and if it’s any consolation the Beach Lavender Lemon has been compared to Malibu Lemon Blossom but it’s a bit sweeter.
I don’t really have a great idea for frivolous but think I will choose between my 2 small decants of Jean Patou Joy, one an EdT the other the EdP. Frivolousness would dictate the EdP, right? Go big or go home.
Still loving the ‘hummers’ Robin!
I am watching DORIAN closely due to friends and family right under the bullseye.
There are some great perfume specials and sales magically appearing on my phone, but I will stay strong.
Fingers crossed for your friends & family! ?
thank you Jalapeno.
Gosh, I’m sorry to hear your family is right in the thick of things! Very nerve wracking for all involved. My Florida neighbor went to Walmart this morning to stock up necessities and said the shelves were already empty. She’s in the Tampa/St Pete area. I’m glad people are taking it seriously and hoping it does a U turn and heads back out to sea…!
Thanks Deva.
Wearing Mancera Black Cherry. I hardly ever wear this, though I do like it.
I like it too, need to dig it out.
I smell like a frivolous Hawaii beach and sun lotion, so Terracotta was my choice.
Went some perfume sniffing in Stuttgart today at Breuninger. They have a good choice of niche fragrances. I still would love some MKK, but the price is insane… Saw Memoire d’ un Odeur, but sadly no tester.
I really hate that they have packaged all the best SL scents in those crazy expensive tall black bottles. Grrr.
Even though I proclaimed how much I looked forward to reading all the frivolous choices for today, I totally forgot this morning about the CP and put on Eau Premier for a good work scent. But I woke up this morning with traces of Seville a’laube remaining from a frivolous evening out – so that kinda works.
I am in Auckland and from my hotel bed I can see yachts sailing on the harbour and behind the low volcanic cone of Rangitoto island. A beautiful, sparkly ocean morning. Depending on your POV yesterday was either a day of frivolity or hard core research….either way perfume overload:
Beaufort Tonerre
Beaufort Coeur de Noir
Orto Parisi Terroni
Carner Barcelona Black Calamus
Amouage Portrayal
Amouage Myths
Amouage Wit
Amouage Epic
Lubin Epidor
And then a meet up with Waterdragon …she’s in top form and I passed on all your greetings. Cats are all healthy…..and she gave me a sample of 1957 AND , a dream come true, a beautiful Tauer tin of samples. I never thought I would ever get to see a Tauer in real life , such generosity.
More perfumes today.
At one point in the perfume shop the saleswoman passed me something (an Amouage) and said it was like an “old lady scent”. I looked at her…mid 60s, punk , grey hair, pink lips, dazzling blue eyeshadow, bauble earrings, yellow and orange trouser suit outfit and asked “Like us?” and she laughed.
Everything in your post makes me happy. 🙂 So nice to have an update on Waterdragon. Perhaps we’ll see her here again sometime.
Let us know how you like the Tauers.
I liked both Beauforts but a bit close to Bapteme du Feu to be tempted. Terroni was good but finally went a bit sour. Portrayal was a thick, smooth jasmine that reminded me of a bold mimosa and was the one that surprised me because I liked it despite not being a floral type. ….must be spring calling. 1957 was fluffy then flat. I am saving the Tauers until I get home and away from sampling.
Aww that’s nice about the Taurr
Love your post! Very happy to hear that Waterdragon is doing well and still enjoying perfume. Also great news about you getting hands on some Tauers. Worth smelling even if they aren’t your thing. I personally love at least 3 of them.
?
Glad you are having a fabulous time! Sounds like Waterdragon and family are doing great. Thanks for the update.
What a wonderful report! I am lemming Amouage Portrayal as well.
In an effort to get back into the perfume game, at least a little, I stopped by the mall this afternoon to get a sample of Gucci Memoire… To my surprise, Sephora had a bottle of Rush sitting right next to it (haven’t seen that one in a store in ages), so I sprayed a little on for Frivolous points. (Put a little Hermes Néroli Doré on the other wrist for Purdy points.)
Haven’t read comments yet but hope that everyone is having a really good day!
I hope you have a really good day, too.
What did you think of Memoire?
Rush is a great pick for frivolous!
FearsMice, I tried Gucci Memoire as well at Sephora today, and it didn’t really work on me. It had a mint opening but a sour mint not a tart one.
I will try again. I also sprayed some Atelier Vanilla Incensee on me and think that created a fog of sorts.
Did you like it?
I think mint is a hard note in perfume. It reminds me too much of toothpaste.
I’m sorry you seem to have lost your perfume mojo. It’s happened to me a couple of times, and I’m sure it will happen again. I would worry about it. What did you think of the new Gucci?
Wouldn’t* ?
Yasmina, AngelaB and Deva — I haven’t put Memoire on skin yet. When I first sprayed it on a blotter, I wasn’t too taken with it — got a whiff of the sourness that Angela notes. I brought the blotter home though, and sniffing it now, the sourness is gone and the mint is very subdued; there is a subtly sweet hay-like quality to the drydown. I think it might be nice on skin after it settles a bit.
I would def recommend trying it on skin
I am wearing the extremely unfrivolous Eau de Soir. I sprayed without thinking this morning. Had I been more on the ball, I would have worn White by Puredistance. Rediculously expensive and still somehow worth it. At least it was to me at the time. ?
Maybe you can wear White as a bedtime scent?
EdS is still going strong but I usually hit the shower before bedtime so I may just do that. Thanks for your suggestion!
Oh Good one, wish I had One by Puredistance. THAT would be perfectly frivolous.
Their prices are eye watering. I only own a travel spray which I purchased during a sale.
Smart! You smell amazing, I would love to try both of them Petunia. I think I remember seeing ‘1’ at a splitmeet so there’s hope yet!
Puredistance prices make the scents seem decadent. 🙂 My memory of White is that it is a rose-centered fragrance; so lovely…
Hello NST! Well, at this time yesterday I thought I would be on an Internet holiday because I would be on a road trip, headed to Florida. Well, the updates about Dorian this morning upended those plans. I’m staying home while Mr. Jalapeno heads down to visit his step mother. Keeping everyone who is Dorian’s path in mind this weekend.
SOTD = Berdoues Selva Do Brazil EdP, from the sample stash. It smells like green lemons to me. Not in the mood for frivolous today. ???
Sorry about your cancelled plans. My dad is in Orlando and I’m worried but he is laughing the whole thing off. Just like my brother laughed off the LA earthquake when he was there. What’s wrong with my family??
Thanks yasmina. Maybe your dad’s & brother’s behavior is their way of saying “Don’t worry?” Having said that, it would drive me nuts if someone I was concerned about did the same.
Mr. Jalapeno is headed to the Daytona Beach area. I’ve asked him to keep in touch.
Good Luck Jalapeno, my Mr. went down also (to help a buddy).
I think you are right. But still!
I hope the mister stays safe
What a crew yasmina! Good luck.
Aren’t they? ?
Well, I think it’s better to cancel plans and not have to worry about losing your life. Storms of any kind in Florida are no joke. I still remember the “No Name Storm” back in 93. It was horrendous. We called old neighbors that we used to live next to over on St Pete Beach and asked them to evacuate to my mom and dad’s house. Initially, they scoffed at us, but then decided to play it safe and came about an hour later. What a horrible night that was!
I’ll keep your hubs in my thoughts, hoping the storm turns on itself and heads back out to sea!
Keep us updated on Mr. Jalapeno. Wishing everyone safe!
Goodness, I hope all the traveling Misters — as well as the residents! — stay safe this weekend. I have family in the Orlando area and have my fingers crossed that they’ll ride it okay…
ride it out…
I don’t think of it as frivolous but I went with Virgile. It’s my perfect vanilla/body lotion scent. It helped bring ease and calm to an otherwise hectic day.
I have also been enjoying RG Carnation soap after finding one in the back shelf of an NYC pharmacy. The SA was surprised- she told me she thought it was discontinued. I looove carnation y’all!
Nice soap find, for sure!
? I’m really enjoying my showers
Oh, lucky you on the carnation soap. I’ll join you in the carnation love!
Isn’t it frustrating though how it’s hard to find contemporary carnation-forward perfumes? If you have some favorites let me know
Carner Barcelona announced one fairly recently (like w/in the last year and it got some love here) that sounded amazing! It has a red flower on the bottle, the name escapes me.
Also DSH has a few -Souvenir de Malmaison and Olliette Rouge.
Thanks for these leads!
Another carnation lover here, too — congrats on finding that soap!
Yesterday was Bois des Iles and today Paris-Deauville, completing a workweek of Chanel. I could do no 5 EDT and EDP to complete a full week, but don’t think I’ll be in the mood for it.
No CP points this week. Feels like either all of my perfume is frivolous or none!
Bois des Iles is lovely. I almost bought that instead of Coromandel. Maybe I will just be greedy and own both
Oh so jealous of your beautiful perfumes! One day I will buy BdI EdP!
Well I’m just rockin’ a Bois des Iles and Paris-Deauville samples right now! Would love to have a BdI FB. Will probably do a decant first, though. I could easily blow way too much $$ on the Les Exclusifs…
SOTD = Chanel No. 5 L’eau RED bottle
Today, I chose to interpret frivolous as indulgent. I have 4 sizes of this perfume, none of which I would consider a back up for the other but now I don’t have to worry about reformulation ?.
Here’s my post on Insta wherein I mentioned our Community Project!

In other news, I won a $50 gift card from Brighton Collectibles! I usually leverage GWPs but I decided that getting lucky today was the universe’s way of telling me to do something frivolous…and so I did!
Now off to read everyone else’s pick!
Perfect pick and that bottle!
Congrats on the gift card. There’s a lot to be said about never needing to buy a BUB! ??
Oh that picture is awesome! Congratulations on the winning the gift card!
There’s something a little frivolous about red anyway…
Congrats on the gift card! I’ve been kinda obsessed with Brighton’s cuff bracelets ever since you mentioned them here some time ago.
You smell divine! I just smelled that one at Sephora and loved it! I thought it would be overpowering but it was truly lovely &light.
What a day! Today was my turn in the rotation to be on my bosses bad side.
I wore Black Opium today for the first time in a long time. I can’t really explain why I think it’s frivolous, but I do. I still really like it too.
Ugh. Wish you could fire your boss.
Happy you got to enjoy the Black Opium, though. 🙂
That’s especially tough when it occurs on a Friday before a long weekend.
Sending out some good thoughts for all those facing Dorian.
My frivilious choice tonight was My Green Summer by YR. I put on about 10 sprays. I think for tomorrow I will pack Bronze Goddess and maybe Prada Iris. I still have to get motivated to pack up for an early trip tomorrow morning; my hubby is caddying for his brother in a golf tournament all weekend. My feet already hurt!
You’ll smell great, though!
