Hump Day, National Lighthouse Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I am planning to spend my day in Strange Invisible Perfumes Musc Botanique.
Reminder: on 8/9 we'll celebrate National Book Lovers Day...wear a fragrance inspired by an author or a book or a character in a book.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Chanel No.5 Eau Première. I always forget how much I actually enjoy this one.
Tea is MF Bel Ami.
I am going to wear this one for the first time next week when I start my fortnight of Chanel.
I’ll be interested to see which Chanels you will choose.
I have two weeks of Decants lined up and ready to go!
That’s my favorite of the 5s. I will wear it later today, I think.
We will be sisters in scent!
I also really like the No.5 extrait de parfum. Have you ever tried that concentration?
No I haven’t tried it. But i will look for it
Dior continues in Belle de Jour… delectable ???
Belle de Jour is a beautiful name for a perfume! 😀
I know, right?
SOTD is Ineke Gilded Lily. I claim CP points because of Shakespeare reference in the name.
Do you like it? Twisted Lily has it on sale.
I like it, though it is not FBW for me (maybe too mossy for me to wear it often). Definitely enjoying my sample.
Thanks
I have FB of this one and like it, though I’m a chypre fan. FYI Ineke has discontinued this one. Got an email from her about a week ago.
My bottle is practically full, like it quite a bit, but don’t need a BUB.
Oh interesting. But then there won’t be a G in the alphabet series!
I know! My inner collector finds it very disgruntling to have that gap! Apparently she is adding “J” and can’t keep producing all the rest…
Oh! And now I am wondering if she is dropping Chemical Bonding and Derring Do too.
Email I got from Ineke was very specific that G was canceled. No mention of C or D.
But you never know! They might be on the chopping block when she wants to add K… whatever that could be!
I’m in my new favorite layering combo: Tauer Wowilla oil + MCG Hanbury. Drinking an iced tea with honey and hoping the rainclouds will pass through soon so I can attend an outdoor yoga class after work.
You get an enabler pin. I bought two discontinued Pacificas for my middle one birthday on eBay. This is my first time buying on eBay ?.
Haha! I hope it’s a good first ebay experience. So what did you get??
Two of her absolute favorites, Bali Lime Papaya ( which is actually linden/ lime blossom) and Vanilla Vera Cruz ( which smells like Play-Doh to my ? but she loves it).
First time? ?
Yes!!! I was terrified ?
Your combo sounds lovely! I haven’t tried the Wowilla oil yet, but I have certainly been tempted to get it. However, I have to admit that I very rarely reach for my other perfumed body oils, so there’s that. Is it possible that I’m actually being rational about perfume?
Say it isn’t so! 😉
?
Don’t worry… it happens to the best of us sometimes. ?
In Zoologist Hummingbird. Such a pretty floral scent! It gives me a feel of peace and happiness. To my endless full bottle shopping list it goes.
You smell great! Nice to see you posting!
Thank you! ?. I have been so busy lately to read and post, but I have not stopped enjoying my perfumes. I have been thunking lots of samples, minis and decants. It feels so relieving!
???? to thunkin’!!! Keep at it!!!
Trying my best, but the more I thunk, the more they seem to reproduce!!!
LOL ? ?
This is why I am holding off on sending anything to you at the moment.
Keep on thunk’n
Definitely will!
?waving hello!?
Hi there! ??❤
Hiya! I’d been thinking about you the other day, and wondered how things were. Glad to hear from you, and hear that you are still enjoying and thunking perfume!
Thank you! ?. I missed you all! Glad to have some time to be here!
Forgot to mention that last night tested Iris Dragee on one ✋ and vintage Magie Noire on the other ✋.
And? How is iris dragee? Always curious about anything almond….
I love it!! It’s sweet almond goodness. Luckily I have a decant.
Also, Lizzie, have you tried Pure eVe? That has a nice almond vibe to my nose.
Oooh, I’d like you know how you like Iris Dragees too!
Love it. If I didn’t have a decant I would consider one of those 15 ml bottles.
Thank you!
Oh, that Magie Noir! Yum!
I’m in Azemour today – so gorgeous. And speaking of gorgeous, I stumbled across a tiny sample of Sous le Vent the other night – some extremely kind NSTer sent it to me a year or two ago, and I wasn’t ready then to appreciate it … but I sure am NOW! Oh my god, true love. Too bad it’s so rare (and expensive) now that I won’t even spring for a one ml decant. Ah well, I’ll just have to spread the love around the rest of my little collection.
Dear SheriG,
I absolutely love Sous le Vent, I have a decant from someone on NST and I cherish every drop. Its so lovely right? I have been looking for something similar but its hard! They don’t make them like that anymore..
I am so glad to bump into another fan . Cheers!
LTSG: Yes! I can’t think of anything similar (apart from Vol de Nuit, which shares the same Guerlainade base as Sous le Vent and is also extraordinary). I often wonder if there are perfumers out there coming up with equally complex, beautiful fragrances that never see the light of day because the audience for them is just too small.
I have never smelled Vol de Nuit, what is it like?
Ohhh, so hard to describe perfumes. Well, VdN is an oriental, and is “old fashioned” in the sense that its list of notes is long and varied. There are also differences between the vintage and current formulations (as with anything), and among the various strengths. Kevin here at NST seemed to have been altogether underwhelmed by it, but other reviewers are more enthusiastic (calling it things like extraordinary and a marvel). The EDT is said to have top notes of bergamot, galbanum and petitgrain; middle notes of jasmine, jonquil and spices; and base notes of woods, iris, vanilla and amber. The extrait supposedly has notes of orange, mandarin, lemon, bergamot, orange blossom; jonquil, aldehydes, galbanum, vanilla, spices, oakmoss, sandalwood, orris and musk. I have small amounts of vintage EDT, vintage EDC, and (possibly current) extrait, and I love them all. I also tested the current EDT formulation and found it pretty thin … but vintage versions are still relatively easy to find online.
This would be a good community project – what forgotten masterpiece do you wear that you think needs to be revived? or something like that…
+1 for this CP! 🙂
An excellent suggestion.
Azemour is my go to summer citrus chypre!
It is altogether perfect for summer … and pretty much every other season too. 🙂
Sel Marin.
Gorgeous!
Perfect fit for lighthouse day.
Woman in Gold for the book Circe by Miller
I find this scent to be very bewitching and a perfect fit for Circe whom is known as a “witch” who turns sailors into pigs but takes a few lovers along the way. That is my kind of woman. She is also character that evolves, like this perfume on my skin.
I just wanted to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone for your kind words yesterday.
How are you and the kids doing today? Hugs to you.
Mr L, whom told me repeatedly he is not attached to our fur baby kept me up until late last night sobbing.
My oldest kiddo said to everyone “Its ok to be sad” So sweet
That is so sad to hear. It has often seemed true in my experience that men pretend not to like cats but secretly do. I used to catch my father during his visits talking to and playing with my cats. I’m so sorry your family had such a sad loss.
I teared up hearing about what your older child said.
Me too, and an extra hug to Mr. LTSG.
Awww, well it’s good he was able to express his grief. And she’s a wise little kiddo ❤ I hope you’re ok, too.
Missed your post yesterday – sending you and your family a big hug. You made that cat’s life good, as he did yours. How much better can that get?
2nd this! And another big hug to you and your family.
We lost a dearly loved cat-guy when my son was still a toddler. Said kid doesn’t remember anything about him, but that cat kept watch over him when he wasn’t assisting (supervising?) us with various projects around the house. My son is nearly 25 now, and my memories of that goofy cat are still treasured. The memories they leave us with are a gift!
Sorry to hear about your cat. Sending hugs!
I missed yesterday’s post. Sending hugs!
I’ve been reading Animals in Spirit, by Penelope Smith. It is about animal communication, their transition through a spiritual perspective.
I wish I started reading Penelope Smith’s books and learning about animal communication a long time ago.
I wish I had a magic wand to ease your pain. What a wonderful mother and wife you are to be the rock for everyone.
Thank you for this book recommendation, I’m going to look for it.
Sending you good wishes from down here. Hooe you are okay.
So sorry to hear about your sweet kitty, ltsg.
I thought the photo was an artichoke, but it’s beautiful nonetheless.
I was in a lavender-y mood today so went with Gris Clair. Was hesitant to wear it in warm weather, but it’s working out well. The more I wear this stuff the more I love it. It’s also a shape shifter- sometimes it smells slightly smoky, sometimes fresher, and sometimes the tonka really comes through.
It’s a great shot — I am doing a week of zinnias so was happy to find it.
I almost wore this today, not sure if I’ve worn it in hot weather before. So glad to see someone else mention the shapeshifter aspect! I feel like it kind of expands and contracts all day. Great perfume 🙂
I love Gris Clair in all seasons. It seems cool in summer and warm in winter
Hey, I thought that picture also looked like an artichoke! It made me wish that we were having them for dinner tonight.
What a beautiful picture!
SOTD is By Killian Love & Tears.
This is my favorite jasmine perfume, a very wearable daily go-to scent.
house twins
Hi Twin!
Almost wore that today. It’s a beauty.
In Atelier Cologne Silver Iris today.
You smell fantastic!
Thank you dear!
That perfume is one I associate with you lucasai.
Hello Y’all….long time no posts! 🙂
I just got back from dropping my oldest baby at college, 2 hours away. We both handled it well, mostly because I know she’s ready for some independence and she will be fine! Maybe I’ll cry later this week? We shall see….
Anyhoo, wearing Lush What Would Love Do? in honor of taking my baby to college! Love lets go, and lets the birdies fly the nest and take flight…no matter how hard it is for Mommy Bird! 🙂
Is she the first to head off? That’s hard. I am sure she will be fine. Good luck to her. It’s a wonderful opportunity to grow and gain independence!
She’s my oldest and the 1st to launch! I still have a 10th grade daughter and 8th grade son still in the nest! I didn’t cry, but at 3:30am this morning I was walking around the living room, questioning every life choice I’ve ever made for her…. HA HA HA 🙂
aww!
Hugs to you Jada. I was following your posts on insta , of your vacation. What a beautiful family you have. Blessings
It gets easier, Jada! And it’s perfectly normal to have a bit of anxiety. It will pass.
Oh gosh, I soooo understand that walk around the house in the middle of the night! Take deep breaths, mama. You’ll both be okay.
Congratulations, that’s a big step for both of you.!
I waited until I was back in the car before I cried, but that was the best I could do. Good luck to her!
I cried the 1st time we did a college visit! LOL My hubby thought I was crazy….he’s yet to show a whit of emotion! He’s a pretty practical fella….
A song for you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNv46fB93IE
Oooh, tough days. But proud times too. My only child is leaving home in six months and I keep trying to ‘back peddle’ time to make it last a bit longer until he goes.
Hey, did I ever thank you for directing me toward Rogue perfumes? I loved testing the samples I ordered!!!!
Yep, this good bye business is something, ain’t it!
I’m commando so far, because I’m home sick. Yesterday I felt horrible, because my blood sugar was really high. I hadn’t checked it and didn’t realize it was so high. It’s been years since it happened. Now of course it is too low and I’m still feeling horrible. Once it levels off I’ll feel better.
Ugh, so sorry PriscillaE!
Sorry! Hope you feel better soon.
Feel better! Hugs
Sorry. Feel better.
I hope your day improves soon.
hang in there! hope you are feeling better quickly 😉
Yikes! I hope that you are feeling better now.
Today I’m enjoying four jasmines: Molinard, Jasmin Rouge, Sarrasins and Montale’s Jasmine Full.
Excellent! Have you had any complaints yet? 😉
Lol! I’m not known for reeking havoc for no reason! Although truth be told, I only do this when I know that I’ll be home alone.
If you are such a jasmine fan you might want to try Grandiflora Madagascan Jasmine. I think it’s gorgeous. I haven’t tried either the Molinard or the Montale.
I appreciate your suggestion! I was so excited to try that one, but unfortunately it didn’t work out for me. I think I might be one of a very few who it doesn’t agree with. (Tbh, I haven’t heard of anyone else but I just don’t want to be the sole person in that camp.)
?
What’s your favorite?
I think of these four, it’s the Montale. That and the Molinard and the TF are pretty much soliflores on me. I wanted to use A la Nuit, but it’s not in my current pile of stuff I’ve designated to plow through. Are you a jasmine fan?
I am! My favorite is A la Nuit despite being so fleeting. I love TDC Jasmin de Nuit, AG Songs, By Killian Love and Tears Surrender, ELDO Jasmin et Cigarette, TF Jasmin Rouge, SL Sarrasins. Anyway, the list is long, but jasmine is one of my favorite notes.
Nice list! I think you’re the only person I’ve seen mention Surrender, which (in addition to the others you noted) I love too.
Those are all great jasmines except I need to spend more time with Love and Tears. I also love Rodin perfume, La Via del Profumo Tawaf, and Diptyque Essences Insensees Jasmine.
tell us more!
Jasmine is a favorite note for me! The Molinard is a soliflore, Jasmin Rouge has some more depth but is less indolic on me, and Jasmine Full has just a touch of orange blossom and honeysuckle. Sarrasins is not a soliflore by any means, and I’m still not sure if it’s for me. It will need its own day! Do you like jasmine?
You’re reeking lovely floral havoc today Holly! Jasmine is a favorite note of mine as well.
Silver Thread by Potentia. Can’t find reviews anywhere! But, no matter: I’m loving it. This is the 3rd sample from my Olfactif box this month. Sigh. I want all three!! Farewell, budget.
Notes from the Potentia site:
Top Note: Mandarin, White Tea, Szechuan Pepper SFE, Coriander
Mid Notes: Jasmine Absolute, Neroli Oil Bigarade Petals
Base Notes: Firmenich Captive Musks, Atlas Cedarwood, Mate Absolute, Vanilla, Sandalwood
That sounds very interesting. I’ve never heard of that line before.
Looks very new, although per Fragrantica this scent launched in 2018. Their website indicates there will ultimately be 4 named fragrances collections, but only one has been launched thus far with 5 frags.
The house is actually called House of Potentia, a very uggg name IMHO which makes me think “pretentious” rather than “human potential”, the (much more verbosely) stated inspiration.
In Pomegranate Noir, which has nothing to link it to the book I am reading, The Black House, a disturbing murder mystery set in the Outer Hebrides on Lewis Island. It has some good descriptions of island life in the 1980s, the tautness of religious life and the poverty, but there are also several detailed descriptions of violence, and one particularly lengthy and graphic description of an autopsy–so this book is not for everyone! (I grabbed it for a breather from a life of Nixon tome that is taking me forever to wade through 😉 It is different! )
I love Pom Noire! How is it in the heat?
Hottest its been here is in a while is 70 F, so not too bad. The perfume is very nice in this weather!
I’m intrigued by your book. Who is the author?
The Black House is by Peter May, and I understand that he has written several others in the Lewis Island series. The other is John Farrell’s Richard Nixon The Life, but I am guessing that is not the book you meant 🙂
I was stuck at a doctor’s office for many hours this morning waiting while my son was getting some services, and finished the May book. Without anything else to read with me, I ran out to a nearby bookstore and bought Louise Penny’s Kingdom of the Blind, so I must really not be ready to dive back into ‘The Life’!
Oops I forgot you mentioned a second book, but you guessed correctly which one I was interested in. Thanks! It’s on my list now.
Have you read the Scottish poet/novelist John Burnside? You might like him as his books are beautifully crafted and atmospheric and mysterious. My favourite is A Summer of Drowning ( which isn’t set in Scotland but up in the Arctic . But the Scottish ones are equally good. His memoir is also great.
https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2011/aug/26/john-burnside-life-in-writing
Oh interesting. He sounds like the disasters I spent my 20 madly in love with… Just put A Summer of Drowning in my book queue. Also, fyi, pre-ordered Scented last week, and am looking forward to it!
Thanks for the recommendation! I’ve added A Summer of Drowning to my list.
Also, have been waiting with bated breath to hear how the filming went, were there many horizon viewings, what made it interesting or fun? What was the worst part?
I’ve had ideas for a whole bunch of perfume/book pairings for the CP, but today I couldn’t resist wearing a new decant. I’m in April Aromatics Unter den Linden from the lovely Oakland Fresca. I think this is the last major linden perfume I hadn’t tried. Its a very nice linden, and I do so enjoy putting on a linden perfume after using my Provence Sante Tilluel shower gel. I plan to buy one to use every spring/summer unless I get sick of it. Its a top shower gel for me.
Everyone, which is your absolute favorite linden perfume? Mine is either the Provence Sante or Grand Chalet (linden and mimosa).
Oh, and I’m wearing a new red dress and immediately got a compliment from someone, so I’m feeling pretty nice.
Red dress and you smell good! Look out world..
How wonderful to wear a new dress and get a compliment! Your shower gel sounds delightful.
I was going to say En Voyage perfumes Lorelei for linden but I looked it up to be sure and it doesn’t have linden in it. Very pretty springtime fragrance anyway. Then I looked up Imaginary Authors The Soft Lawn and that’s the one with linden blossom I was thinking of. I think I have a sample somewhere if you’d like to try it.
That’s very kind of you. I have tried The Soft Lawn but it wasn’t for me. The tennis ball note they list read as chalky on me.
Well, you do smell rather nice, if I must say so myself!
Yes I did, thanks! It was also surprisingly long lasting on me.
I’m wearing a few drops of Slumberhouse Sova that I found in a small vial this morning. It must be old, because the juice is now syrup.
I think this smells like one of those uncomfortable-to-watch Scandinavian murder mysteries that take place in a seemingly calm community that is beautifully snowy, and surrounded by dense forest. Everybody’s life seems straightforward and sane. Slowly, though, the dark and complex web of secrets lying underneath the surface is uncovered, and the resulting dichotomy between superficial appearance and buried truth is deeply disturbing.
Could have just been triggered by the dark green syrupy nature of the juice, though – I am an impressionable critter.
Sova sounds fascinating! Or is it just disturbing?
I find it unusual, and thus compelling. I don’t think everybody would find it disturbing. There was just something about the dark syrupy nature of the juice this morning when I turned the vial upside to get at the last drops, the herbal quality that made me think of dark and snowy woods, and probably my penchant for murder mysteries – that prompted the association. 🙂
I get that. When certain perfumes evaporate to syrup or sludge, they can take on an aura of mystery akin to that of potions.
I love the scene you’ve set! I think I have a sample of Sova, so I may try to dig it out tonight.
Hi NST people! Today my scent of the day is vintage Adieu Sagesse. That’s because I finally finished something I’ve been working on for a long time, which is the story of how this bottle of perfume ended up in my guest bedroom closet. But of course it is really the true-life story of how some women who met on the NST blog ended up banding together to help one of their own in her time of need. It ended up being rather long, so this is only the first third or so. You can read it here: https://delusiastic.blogspot.com/2019/08/perfume-story-farewell-caution-part-1.html
Oh, thank you! What a wonderful story – I’m really looking forward to the rest of it. Tama is missed…
Oh, I’m so glad you liked it! I will post part 2 tomorrow and part 3 on Friday.
Great! Thank you for the heads up.
Thanks for sharing that.
The Sniffapalooza crew are a lovely group. Tama sounds like the Karens.
Back to the Book Project. The Five People You Meet in Heaven, I wonder if Tama knew the lives she touched.
I’ve definitely fantasized about attending Sniffapalooza. Maybe one day….
Come! I plan on treating myself this year!
Thank you! Anxiously, looking forward to reading the rest of the story!
I will try to post a link to each part as they come out, which I plan to be Part 2 tomorrow and Part 3 on Friday.
Chergui smelled so good yesterday that I’m repeating it today. It’s making me want to wear all the perfumes that I think of as “winter” while it’s still hot outside.
Can anyone recommend a good, cheap, dry patchouli oil? I woke up the other day and realized that I need one.
I like the patchouli oils from Eden Botanicals. They might even have a sampler pack. But I also use Now Essential Oil which can easily be found at a health food store.
*smacks forehead* of course, Now brand! I knew there was a brand I used to get at the health food store. Thanks!
You’re welcome ?
And Vitacost makes their own patchouli which is inexpensive and good!
I’m waiting for the patchouli rec’s. I’d love patchouli perfume recommendations, too.
Not to hijack your quest!
Oils I love
Terra Nova
Body Shop
Nemat
Kuumba Made
I’ll check the stash, but I still have to unpack a lot!
Thanks, AnniePerfumes!
Happy to help!
To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf is today’s inspiration (based on the lighthouse day) and the perfume is Smell Bent In the Artists Studio for the character Lily Briscoe, who is a painter. I think this perfume is a fine example of the floral damp plaster category. I remeber wanting to be a lighthouse keeper when I was a kid, and I probably would still rank it as a job I could enjoy. Keep warm everyone!
My favourite Woolf novel. Did you ever watch the film they made of it? I seem to remember it was quite good.
Probably my favorite too, but never saw the movie!
Two scents today
Grey Vetiver edp (two sprays applied in store, i dont have it myself) around lunchtime.
And I put on Fou d’Absinthe when came home in the late afternoon.
I made a Vietnamese beef noodle salad for dinner.
Jealous of your dinner!
Cap Neroli on this sticky, humid day. My first thought in thinking about books was Bonjour Tristesse – French Riviera and all. I think the character for this scent is the father, Raymond, in all his dissolute narcissism.
Good news is I heard back from eBay seller. It is Fiori, it is in the older bottle, so I know it’s not reformulated, and it was a good price. Had to do it, right?
Sad news is I heard that someone I worked with in my former company in SF passed away over the weekend. I met him when he was 17 and was delivering packages to us as a messenger. We hired him in 1987 for the mailroom, and he worked there ever since. The outpouring and response (including donations) on FB has been lovely. It just shows the kind of impact one can have on others’ lives by just being helpful, friendly and nice. People who left the firm years ago are reacting and remembering him.
Sorry to hear about your… friend? Colleague? There’s some word missing in English for people who’ve passed through our lives and are remembered fondly, who you’d greet with joy if you happened upon them, but for whatever reason didn’t become a permanent entry in the friend rolodex.
Exactly. There are a lot of people like that in my former company. It was a very special place. I still have tremendous affection for a number of people I haven’t seen in years. (We had some great parties in the early days….)
Vanille Insensee today for a day of pouring rain. A nice dry vanilla, but i an still undecided about the woody drydown…
No book to match the scent.
Vanille Insensee works rather well in humid weather for me.
Sad news…and one I had been dreading to mention here as some of you had when it happened.
Mom passed away peacefully and painlessly this morning. Without going into the details, I will just say that it was a series of unfortunate events. I am sharing one “advice” now, with more to come later. I will not be able to respond to individual comments but appreciate the sentiments.
Mom was very strong-willed and while she held on for a while, she was also clear on her end of life wishes (and no, it was not assisted death). She was a good daughter, mother, aunt, sister, sister in law, friend and neighbor. She was very private and not particularly inclined to show her emotions. She was a good model and while I did not agree with everything, I have taken many of her advice and applied it to my life. I miss her. Thank goodness for siblings!
Now for the one advice:
Medicare – when it’s time to sign up or in the upcoming open enrollment for 2020, choose Traditional Medicare (Part A and Part B, the supplement). Do not, I repeat, do not choose Part C (Medicare Advantage / Managed Care). Part C is good if you are healthy and will not have something catastrophic happen to you but know that your body will break down as you age and a catastrophic event is not anything that you can predict. I believe Part D is the same whether you choose traditional or managed care. We were very lucky to have resources to mitigate the effects of the failure of “the system”. Dad was a very smart planner and taught us well.
SOTD when I went to see mom this morning before she passed – Bee’s Bliss!
so very sorry to read your sad new, hajusuuri, many perfumed hugs to you today.
thank you for sharing your advice, it may save one of us or a loved one from a fight with “the system.”
My heartfelt condolences, sweetheart. You have been such a rock for your mom, and you did her proud. Soft front, strong back. Thank you for reaching out to let us know. Big hug.
I’m so sorry for your loss hajusuuri. Just based on snippets of what you’ve said in the past, your mom sounds like an interesting, lovely woman. Your love and affection was obvious. As you said, thank goodness for siblings. I’m thankful for my sisters. No matter how crazy they make me…. Take care. ❤️❤️?
My heartfelt condolences. What a beautiful thing that you and your siblings may lean on each other.
Hajusuuri, I am so very sorry for your loss. You were such a great advocate for your mother. Love and peace to you and your family.
I will remember your advice, when it comes time to need it.
Hajusuuri, I am so sorry for your loss. You and your family will be in my prayers. Sending big hugs.
I am so sorry Hajusuuri. Take care of yourself . Sending lots of love.
So very sorry for your and your family’s loss.
My sincere condolences Hajusuuri. Take care of yourself.
Hajusuuri, please accept my deepest condolences on your mother’s passing. I remember some of the stories you told me about her when we had our meet-up. She sounded like a wonderful, formidable woman. Hugs.
I’m so very sorry for your loss. Sending love to you and your family.
I am so sorry to hear this. My condolences.
Wishing you comfort — she was fortunate to have such a devoted daughter.
My condolences, hajusuuri.
I will drink a glass of milk to honor her.
I have enjoyed your mentions of your mum in this forum over the years. I am very sorry for your loss.
So sorry to hear you’ve lost your mother. I know from experience how very difficult that is. –Nina
So sorry for this sad news, even if it wasn’t unexpected it is such a terrible loss Hajusuuri.
Hugs
Heartfelt condolences for you and your family. She must have been a wonderful woman and mother since she raised such a wonderful daughter and human in you. Hugs to you!
I’m very sorry to hear about your Mom. Sending you hugs.
Ah, hajusuuri – my heart goes out to you.
I’m so sorry for your loss. As someone who has an elderly mother now in assisted living, I will take your advice to heart. My condolences to your family.
My condolences, hajusuuri….wishing peace to you & your family.
So, so sorry for your loss.
So sad to hear of your mom’s passing, Hajusuuri… Sending warmest thoughts and sympathies to you and your family in this difficult time.
Oh I am so sorry. It is a blessing that at least it was peaceful and painless, but it must be a terrible blow all the same.
I’m so sorry to hear about your mom. I know this pain as well. So glad you can take solace in your siblings, and thanks for taking time out to give advice to us! Big hugs to you, dear.
I am so very sorry. A mother’s love is irreplaceable.
Oh, so sorry to hear. Sending you hugs. And it’s truly a gift that she made her wishes known to you.
I am so sorry to read this hajusuuri. My condolences to you and your siblings. You will be in my thoughts.
I was offline most of yesterday and just read this. My heartfelt condolences on the passing of your beloved mother. I’m glad you have the support of your siblings.
As for Medicare Part C, when signing my husband up I did a lot of research and came to the same conclusion, not recommended.
Sotd = Terracotta Le Parfum + Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat
Terracotta is my Wednesday default scent this summer. I enjoy a weekly visit with this tropical beauty. Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat is all top lemony top notes, gone in a flash, so I apply throughout the day. It’s refreshing and makes Terracotta waft gently.
I love the photo up top today. I’ve been painting mandala stones. The colors of that zinnia will be the great inspiration for my next one. I have hundreds of bottles of acrylic craft paint. Sometimes choosing colors is the hardest part.
Medical woes, skip if you’re squeamish: I’m home for the time being, helping a family member deal with a kidney stone we’ve nicknamed Boulder Bill as it’s 24 millimeters across. That’s almost an inch! On Monday a surgeon put in a stent from kidney to bladder. Now we wait for the stent to expand, in a few weeks the surgeon will go in again with a laser and blast Boulder Bill to smithereens.
Thanks for the squick warning about Boulder Bill!
Oh. Emm. Gee.
You might as well claim the full inch! The one millimeter difference is like… twice the thickness of a fingernail. Yikes!
OUCH.
Heeley Hippie Rose. Will be great to spray when the bottle arrives.
That is a beautiful rose perfume. Enjoy your purchase!?
Wearing Zum Patchouli layered with Leather, by Commodity. Leather has a nice dose of labdanum and patchouli, which is comfort.
I can’t think straight about my pup. I can’t be specific, because I get too sad.
So perfume is keeping my brain busy.
I have two questions.
Would you buy a back up bottle of a favorite or not?
And can you suggest really dirty, earthy patchouli perfumes? Not oils.
I have Montale Patchouli Leaves, Mazz Patchouli, Zum, quite a few, but I don’t know what else. I’m a bit out of the loop with the new fragrances.
I’ll take old ones, too!
Thanks and thanks for the support from all.
Sending positive vibes to you and your pup. I know how difficult that is.
I always buy back up bottles of my absolute favorites, no matter how huge my collection is.
Thank you. My little girl is my everything.
And the advice. I’ve been debating on this for a bit.
I would get a backup bottle if a perfume is something that is under threat of discontinuation or reformulation.
Will do! I think it will be discontinued.
Thank you for your sweet words regarding my dog throughout this difficult time. Your posts have been appreciated.
You’re welcome.
BTW, as far as patch perfumes go, have you tried Reminiscence Patchouli EdT? It is kind of hard to find these days, so I was not sure I wanted to mention it. Also, you could sample Soivohle Pachou Minimal… Liz Zorn sells samples on her website. I have been a happy customer for a while now.
Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll order a sample and hunt for the Reminiscence.
Bought!
Samples!
Yeah!
Hi AnniePerfumes,
I was recently on a Patchouliquest, and the earthy ones were AbdesSaalam Attar Patchouli and Farmacia SS Annunziata dal 1561 Patchouly Indonesiano. Surrender to Chance has samples of the first and Luckyscent has samples of the second. They are both all patch with no added bs and none of the less “desirable” bits taken out.
I’m sorry I can’t send you sample but I only have samples myself. I hope one of them hits the spot!
Thank you soo much! I’m always lovin patchouli!
I just ordered the FF one, prior to checking your comment, and will check out the other.
I am so sorry about your dog, I went through a similar time last year when my beloved puppy girl declined and passed away from congestive heart failure. Sending you calming vibes and strength to be there for her in those most difficult moments.
I love patchouli too, the Farmacia Annunziata one is a good one. I’m looking forward to trying the new MPG Patchouli 1969.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing your story.
I just want her happy.
As far as patchouli, I ordered some samples last night. The Farmacia was one. And now I have another to keep my eyes on!
Grateful for all your help.
I’m sorry about the pup. Words fail when it comes to these little ones.
As far as patch scents go, I recently tried the Pacifica one while at Target. I liked it but didn’t buy. I’m not a big patchouli person, so can’t tell you if it was an earthy one or not. Just sayin’…if you’re in a Target or somewhere with Pacifica, you might want to check it out.
Thank you for your kind words.
I like a lot of Pacifica, so it sounds like a good one!
Ugh, nasty weather rolling through my area for most of the afternoon today. Even worse, it fits my mood. I found out last night that one of my good friends had been admitted to the hospital for diabetes related complications. Good news is that she is improving. Not sure how long she will be in hospital, though.
SOTD = back in Angel EdP again. I haven’t thunked that sample yet. Not sure if I will this week… I’ve been giving some of my other samples “the eye”. ?
Sorry about your friend.
You just reminded me to look outside. I’ve learned to plant some delicate plants in pots this year after last year’s rain killed quite a few. I put them in my garage and have a system to cover up the others. It sounds odd, but, so far… I even have patchouli growing!
You smell yummy.
Thanks, AnniePerfumes!
I hope that you got your delicate plants to safety. The stormy weather is supposed to last well into the evening where I am at.
Ack! They’ll miss the morning sunshine!
All these afternoon thunderstorms have been a major PITA, Jalapeno!
I’m counting myself lucky that the storms have only been a PITA for me. There are places only a few miles away from me that have had flooding problems today. Very thankful that I’m on high ground!
Hope your friend will recover swiftly, Jalapeno.
I have a (little) bag of designer samples that I should use too (sigh).
Thank you Aurora. I did get a message from her earlier tonight, so things are definitely going in the right direction. It was pretty scary for a while though.
Hope your friend feels better soon!
It rained cats and dogs here this afternoon. Such a bad thunderstorm! It has been so dry here, that the rain has been very welcomed.
Thanks perfumelover67!
There were all sorts of weather alerts and warnings here. At one point, it was raining sideways! I’m glad that things have calmed down now.
I am out of town but we had terrible rain here too, with rather impressive thunder and lightning.
Taking out Paris-Venise for a spin tonight from a sample. I like this one too so far.
I’m checking in very late today to report that my SOTD was Guerlain Vega. It really does smell a lot like No. 5, but I notice some distinct aspects, something a bit more almondy. I’ve been having a tough time coping with my mom lately for various reasons and really need a break. Nothing in sight anytime soon, though.
Very late for me tonight. I’m wearing everything but the kitchen sink. Do Son, Grand Bal, EdM Bleue, Vanilla Vibes and the new Gucci. I like the Gucci quite a bit. It’s been an incredibly stressful 2 days off. Leaving me with more questions than answers. A hug to everyone here who needs one tonight.
Hugs to you lillyjo! Glad that your perfume stash is bringing you comfort and/or distraction!
