It's July; (my) local peaches are in season. Plus, it's Patrick Stewart's birthday on Saturday (you've already seen the teaser for Star Trek: Picard, right?) and Bastille Day* on Sunday. We're celebrating all of it with our usual open thread poll.
Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, your favorite peach fragrance, the fragrance you'd wear after you won the Bastille Day Waiters Race, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…
* You can find places to celebrate Bastille Day in the US here.

First one posting!
We are having around 30 ppl over for a backyard bbq in a few hours and I am trying not to stress. We prepped a ton of sides already and the only thing left is the grilling. I always go for chicken thighs cuz they are easy. And dogs and veggie burgers.
I went with Rose Delight body oil. Figured it would be better then perfume in the heat.
Enjoy your bbq party. Hope you have enough meat and salads for all hungry stomachs.
I hope so too! I tend to err on the side of oversupply so it should be fine.
Don’t stress! (I always stress too though)
It’s hard not to but everything went great. And we have leftovers to see us through the weekend, so no cooking
Yay!
Sounds so great. What kind of sides? Hope you enjoy!
We did alot of vegetarian sides. A new one I tried is pea salad, which is apparently a Midwest bbq/easter staple. I left out the bacon but kept the cheese cubes. It was very addictive
Pea salad is awesome!
Love pea salad!!
Love pea salad too! And macaroni salad with peas and chunks of cheese.?
What do you use as the dressing for said pea and macaroni salads? I love stuff like that but they’re kind of out of my culinary zone so I never get them quite right.
My aunt used to make one with small shell pasta, tuna, sweet pickles and black olives. And probably peas. I get cravings for it a lot in summer.
I used sour cream, mayo and vinegar. I could also imagine substituting greek yoghurt for the sour cream for a healthier option
Oh I don’t usually make said pea salad, lol, I can find at my local grocery deli.
I know my gramma and great aunties used to make it and I’m guessing the base was just Hellman’s Mayo, thinned a bit with milk.
I fully approve of vegetarian side dishes because I’m vegetarian and sometimes bbqs I get invited to are all about meat. Your pea salad sounds delicious and glad it all went well, enjoy the rest from cooking now.
Thanks Aurora! Mr. Yasmina is flexitarian so veggies at bbq are a must although he always ends up having half of a hotdog
Silly question probably, but can veggie burgers be grilled? I’m sure it will be fun!
Yes they can! And taste great
Glad your bbq went great!
Thanks!
Yesterday I wore Berdoues Peng Lai about which I forgot to tell you so I hope you don’t mind if I tell you know.
When I came home for the weekend I had a tiny package from Ormonde Jayne waiting for me. They were very kind to send me a sample set of their newest Elixir Collection. Turns out this collection is 5 of their well-known fragrances but they are tweaked and pushed to the limits. For today I chose Royal Elixir which is a stunning green-floral-spicy-oriental.
And this morning I woke up to a rain! A first proper rain in a couple of months. We need more rain in Poland so I hope this one wasn’t just the accident.
Happy weekend to you all!
OMG, look what you made me do – I am now lemming Royal Elixir. ?
“Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me”
Bad, bad Lucas LOL
?
ditto!
??
I’m wearing Dior Cuir Cannage layered over Nuxe floral dry oil. Normally I layer it over my Couvent des Minimes orange blossom body cream but I’m getting nervous about it running out, as it is discontinued.
Does anyone know of a good orange blossom cream/lotion (not Jo Malone) that is sweet and a bit fruity, not green or fresh? The Couvent des Minimes one is very gourmand, sort of like SL Fleurs d’Oranger.
I don’t but I will check out Kneipp and report back!
Thank you!
No Orange Blossom body lotion but for science, I got a tube of shower gel I don’t particularly need ?
Thanks for checking. 🙂 I found a L’Occitane today while I was out, the Neroli & Orchidee lotion was nice. Will continue my research.
Maybe Atelier Cologne hand creams are an option? Pomelo Paradis is fruity with orange blossom.
Thanks, I’ll give it a try.
Can’t think of anything off the top of my head, though I’ve recently been layering the Pomelo Paradis lotion (like lucasai suggested) with a couple sprays of 7 Virtues Afghanistan Orange Blossom when I’m feeling that vibe.
I used to use the L’Occitane Neroli & Orchidee shower gel, which is a vanillic orange blossom. Comes in body lotion. It’s a little too sweet for me personally as a perfume, but fits your criteria, methinks?
Sounds worth a try, thanks!
Almond Orange Blossom Body Lotion by Yves Rocher might work. I like the Shower Gel very much and it’s really affordable enough to try both.
I did see that on their web site, will try to stop by a YR shop and give it a sniff. I have the plain almond lotion from a couple of years ago which is nice.
“Sweet and a bit fruity” sounds like Love & Toast Mandarin Tea. I’ve only tried the perfume, but it comes in a hand creme too: https://margotelena.com/collections/love-toast-handcreme-lotion/products/mandarin-tea-hand-cream
I have that hand creme! It’s wonderful.
Happy Saturday!
SOTD = Parfums MDCI Chypre Palatin
I picked this after reading Lucas’ post re: Pleasant Surprises. I would normally only think of this everything and the kitchen-sink Classic vibe powdery powerhouse when the weather is cooler but thought I would take my chances. And…it worked, likely because it was not yet humid when I was out and about this morning!
One of my latest obsessions, besides the Guerlain 190 years anniversary perfume, is Lush Twilight Body Spray. It is sweet lavender with lots of Tonka. The packaging is similar to spray cleaners like Windex (except smaller and cuter) and delivers a wide swath of coverage with one spray. It supposedly helps one sleep but my normal sleep-deprived status wouldn’t know the difference ?. Have you tried this or any of the Lush body sprays? Do tell!
Now back to preparing packages for mailing!
I love Chypre Palatin but can’t remember the last time I smelled it! I need to get a new sample.
Mine is from an old decant and the juice got more concentrated for sure. I do have a FB from 2-3 years ago and I remember the controversy over whether or not it had been redormulated. My nose is not sophisticated enough to make the call.
I need to try the Twilight spray. Sounds yummy! I am taking advantage of low humidity today too.
I think you’ll like it in small doses.
I love that Lush spray. It smells exactly like their Sleepy bodylotion.
And I love Chypre Palatin. I’ve got a large sample so I’m good for a while.
Oh good, so I’m not the only one. The scent haunted me for a week until I went back again to respell all the body sprays and this was the one I kept thinking about. I understand there used to be a perfume with the same name; maybe they will bring it back!
Well, the good thing is that the Lush spray shouldn’t be as expensive as the 190 ans anniversaire perfume. It was a few days ago, but I remember some enablers trying hard to get someone to buy a $14,000 bottle of perfume. I believe it was you, and that you nobly refused their playful attempts at persuasion. That is a large amount of money. Like you said, you could take several really nice family vacations for that. I was laughing at those folks who were like, “Do eeet! Do eeet!”
LOL, yes, all in jest of course.
Am trapped at home for annual fire alarm testing – which is good.
Am shredding up a storm and doing laundry. A touch of Tigers Nest for the day.
Every year I remember my peaches in Greece. So big and juicy we would step down from the beach and into the water to eat them.
Oh, those peaches at the beach sound heavenly!
That peach eating technique sounds so nice
easy clean up, hannahmom!
Sounds heavenly!
You’ve definitely found the best way to eat peaches!
Definitely
I heard a fascinating interview on NPR yesterday with a peach specialist on a farm in South Carolina. He explained that they call some peaches “melting” ones and those are the ones that will drip juice down your face when you eat them. I’m sure you agree with me, those are the best!
I’m going to put “eating a peach just like aspara” on my bucket list. 🙂
Including the Greece part, of course!
ME TOO! I had exactly the same thought!!
We ate tomatoes the same way, right out of hand standing in the water.
I cried for what felt like forever when we moved from Greece.
Now I have “Walking on the beaches looking at the peaches” by the Stranglers as an ear worm! ??
Greek peaches in the sea sound like heaven.
Happy weekend! So glad to have a break from work. Yesterday afternoon our network crashed at work… I was so not sorry to have to knock off early 🙂
In other news, oops I did it again. I enjoyed the last round of 4711 doorstops so much I bought a few more. Even cheaper this time. Anybody want some? I’m offering splits of:
4711 Lemon & Ginger
4711 Lavender & Thyme
4711 White Peach & Coriander
30 ml splits: $9 for one, $15 for two, $21 for three. Includes first class postage. US only. Email me at emc dawt 7 1 1 7 at geeemail.
I will email you ASAP but please put me down for the Lemon & Ginger and Lavender & Thyme. This is fast becoming an expensive weekend.
Was just about to message you, but I’m in Canada – Oh well – someone please let me know how they smell??
Sorry! Posting to Canada is just such a pain…
4711’s do tend to smell like the name. No Le Labo fun & games here. Lavender & Thyme is about 50/50 on the two main notes. Lemon & Ginger opens with a big lemon blast but quickly shifts to 50/50. White Peach & Coriander opens with a fun peach note, then goes all coriander, then mild peach comes back later. YMMV of course 🙂
Ooh lemon and ginger is compared to L’occitane’s verbena, which I love, but this is alot cheaper. I will email you!
Emailing, please put me down for the lemon & ginger and peach & coriander!
Lemon & Ginger split is tentatively closed. yasmina, I haven’t heard from you but I am holding one split in reserve for you. Let me know if you want it.
Now the L&G split is definitely closed 🙂
Just came back from washing dog blankets and attending the local Pride parade. Commando, but heading to a shower and some MDCI Cio Cio San.
That sounds like a decent Saturday already!
Washing dog blankets is a constant part of my life. Hope you enjoyed the parade!
I’m actually in peachy rose bliss in Diva EdP. Hope everyone is well! I haven’t been commenting as much recently but I’m usually lurking during my slow times.
I just ate my third peach in two days, so I am well 🙂
You dared!
?
Ha, took me a minute!!
Was it good? I usually wait until late July/early August. I’m not sure they’re even available here yet, so this may be a moot question.
“Were they good” that is 😉
I saw some at the Farmer’s Market just in the past week or so. I think they’ll be better later in the season though.
Both peaches and nectarines that I bought at a local stand (in Chadds Ford PA) were so good that I went back today to buy more.
Also amazing tomatoes, which I assume they must start in a hot house…but no store-bought hothouse tomato this year has been worth eating, so I am thinking they started them inside and moved them outside?
I rarely eat fruit bigger than an apricot but I’ll be checking the market this week. I wanted to go to the Fredericksburg Peach festival but it’s farther from Houston than I though.
Love Diva EDP, it doesn’t get mentioned enough, well done for wearing it, I don’t have a bottle but remember it well.
I prefer the EdP but I have some 80’s EdT that is lovely too.
Waving hello!
Hi Kelly! Hope you’re having a great weekend.
Eau des Merveilles Bleue from the super cute tiny bottle-half a spritz before gym. Trying the Kiste again. I’m thinking of swapping it. If anyone is interested, I’m open to ideas. US only. If it’s ok to announce before the official swap meet.
It is ok!
Ok thank you! And it’s spoken for so win-win ?
Donna Karan Gold EDP, which layers well with chlorine and Black Russians. ?
Sounds like you’re enjoying the day?
Yes lillyjo!
I hope you can find some fun sooner rather than later. ???
Mr. Mojo risin’……………………………?
Bear, part of me thinks you couldn’t possibly know the significance of your reply, including the song and on today. Most of me believes that you somehow must have. Either way, thank you.
“You re freaking me out, man” ????
???
PSA, Fragrancenet has Ostara, if anyone missed out before it got discontinued. Just trying to be helpful… 😉
Surprised it is not more expensive.
I’m covered in a bunch of scents as I spent a great and rather fragrant afternoon in Antwerp.
I started my day in Manoumalia and (re)tried a bunch of scents this afternoon: Rive Gauche which I remember loving back in the day and still seems in pretty good shape. Mon Guerlain (edp), I just adore this one. Not a masterpiece but just so wearable. Two Cartiers: Carat and Baiser Volé. Both great, have a slight preference for BV.
I then moved on to another shop and tried the Amouage Tuberose (just on a card this time). It’s nice enough but there are greater tuberoses out there. And Montale’s Patchouli Leaves which surprised me, I like it a great deal.
Found some Bulgarian honey on the market and some rose jam. The honeys are wonderful and so is the jam. All in all a good day!
That sounds like a terrific day. I wore Mon Guerlain Florale last night but I prefer the original as it has a bit more character, and I like the lavender …I thunked my bottle of the original very quickly.
It was a great day. I too prefer the original Mon Guerlain, the florale seems off somehow. I will get a bottle of it at some point.
Sounds like a great day! Love Mon Guerlain and Patchouli Leaves too. And jam and honey are two of my favourite things in the world.
And olive oil, cheese and soap. Although I don’t actually eat soap 😉
I was walking around the neighbourhood yesterday and noticed snowdrops in my neighbours’ gardens so JM white moss and snowdrop for me. Wintersweet is also in flower, what a lovely scent when everywhere looks so drab and grey. Is there a wintersweet perfume? I am currently rereading some of my favourite books from my bookshelf…Housekeeping by Marilynne Robinson yesterday.
https://www.theguardian.com/books/2015/jun/22/100-best-novels-92-housekeeping-marilynne-robinson
A piece about the book and author
Thanks for the book rec. I will seek it out. I really appreciate your posting your links – I don’t always comment after reading them, but I almost always go and take a look!
Great book, although I never did make it all the way through Balm of Gilead.
Oddly enough, I knew her ex-husband, who was a philosophy colleague of mine. I guess he may feature in some of her books. I have heard many good things about her but just have not wanted to read her. Complex emotions.
It’s a stunning book and doesn’t have any male characters, if that helps. Small world, eh?
Enjoyed Housekeeping when it came out, but haven’t reread, thanks for this reminder, Kanuka, enjoy the first flowery heralds of spring.
I must have read it in the late eighties and Only really remembered the main plot. I had forgotten just how beautiful and exact the writng was. It is my favourite of her books. Also, it is a book with (almost) no male characters.
Such a great writer! What do you think of the JM White Moss and Snowdrop? I tried it a few times last winter in stores here, and thought I would love it, but it turned out to be a like, not love.
It was a blind buy but I enjoyed wearing it in summer, during hot weather as it was fresh yet spicey without being dramatic . In winter it seems a bit pale but layers well with nutmeg and ginger. Not a love but not a disaster and I have used about half of the bottle so it must fall into that ‘ spray as you pass by’ category .
Lazing around the house today wearing Une Rose Chypree. I though I might buy some Wowilla body oil but AT seems to be out at present. I hope it comes back.
You smell great. I hope Wowilla comes back too, nice stuff.
Luckyscent appears to have it in stock…
https://www.luckyscent.com/product/31466/wowilla-body-oil-by-tauer-perfumes
And an enabler pin goes to She-ra!
Thanks!
Hmm, testing out Guerlain’s AA Ginger Picante and I get way less ginger mileage than I was hoping for. This is definitely not the case on my fiancé who smells deliciously gingery for a good 2-3hrs. But the first 10min smell so delightfully of fresh cut ginger root (with a touch of that earthy element that keeps it from going into candy territory) that I’m tempted to go for it anyway…
Have your tried Origins Ginger Essence? Cheap and wonderful!
I have! It’s my mom’s go-to, and wonderful no matter the season. I’m on the hunt for more ginger’s because there must be more out there, I just haven’t found them yet!
There’s a good bit of ginger in Twilly and in the ridiculously named Penhaligon’s The Ruthless Countess Dorothea.
That’s hilarious! Now I’m hoping it’ll be a winner so I can have a bottle of The Ruthless Countess Dorothea taking place of pride on my dresser. XD
I bought that one for my mom, whose name is Dorothy. She loved it. 🙂
Yosh Ginger Ciao!
Calypso, are you a fan of the Yosh Ginger Ciao? If so, maybe hit me up next swap – I have a nearly full bottle that just goes all suntan lotion on me (I don’t love that vibe, though I know many here do).
Ok! Yes!
I tested it a few times and went back to the Guerlain shop to pick it up. It stays pretty gingery on me and I can also detect a rosiness in it as well. I’m not buying much these days but I really enjoyed this so why not! In the past I’ve worn R&G Gingembre and still have a bit of that left. Sadly they are discontinuing their products in Canada. They’ve been available here for years. I spoke to one salesperson who said they had loyal fans and the products always sold very well. ☹️
Yeah, it was mostly rose on me after the first 15-30 min, which was pleasant but not what I was hoping for. I’ll look up Gingembre!
Oh no!! Need to stock up on Extra Vieille.
I know!! Bought a bottle of that a couple of years back. I also really like the soap, a box of three bars or the single with a travel container.
I love candied ginger from Trader Joes. It needs to come in a spray.
You crack me up ?
JM Numeg and ginger? Quite sharp and cologne-like.
We woke up to a dark and stormy morning, pouring rain, even thunder and lightning, which we don’t get very often. And it’s so dark at 8am! Definitely an indoor day, which suits me, as I want to get started on making new curtains.
I’ve been testing my latest bunch of samples from Luckyscent, lots of nice things, but nothing FBW yet. I’m wearing a drop of Les Indémodables’ Rose de Jamal. It has an interesting mint note, but it’s only like, not love, so far.
I just ordered Les Indémodables sample set, the Chypre Azurée was surprisingly good.
Life is short, and so is perfume, so I’m wearing some of my hoarded Gobin-Daudé Jardins Ottomans. Gosh, I wish this line would come back.
I should make an effort to finish mine off, the Sous Le Buis esp. is showing signs of old age.
As much as it hurts, I might finish this decant off today. The Seve Exquise needs some love, too.
It is sad how rarely I smell anything new niche that is as good as Gobin Daude.
It’s hot here and I’m procrastinating… I put on Amazone this morning, which I can finally smell! For a few years it was incredibly faint to me (to the point where I ordered a second mini because I was worried the first one had been faked with colored water!) – this is a weird phenomenon, also happened to me with Bulgari Black. Couldn’t smell it at all at first, then started to get a few hints, and now love it! So strange.
Now I’m wearing the last of my sample of Dear Polly (plink!) because it was on my wishlist forever and during my procrastination I spotted a partial bottle on eBay and I had a big eBay coupon, so now I have 50 ml of Dear Polly coming to me for $50! Lucky find. I’d never buy Vilhelm at full price but do love this, I think it might be my favorite tea scent.
update, what am I talking about, my favorite tea scent is The Pour un Ete and I can’t leave that error on the record.
Lol, duly noted. Thank you for the laugh Regina!
Dear Polly is really nice.
I love “Plink!” 😀
What’s this big ebay coupon you speak of?
I don’t know! It just showed up. Maybe because I recently started selling? Anyway, I shall not complain.
That is a good find! I look for bottles of that one occasionally too.
Went down to Le District in Brookfield place today with the family and ate lots of ice cream
No 22 today
That’s a good place to eat ice cream. So pleasant down there.
Love No. 22!
I’m wearing Guerlain Mayotte today from my beautiful bee bottle.
Must post a peach pie picture for you, Robin.
Wish I had a good peach here, sigh.
I have never heard of that one. What’s it like?
I believe it’s the repackaged/renamed version of Mahora.
Huh – I never tried Mahora and it doesn’t get mentioned often
It’s gorgeous! A very heady, creamy, white and yellow floral. Ylang-ylang features in it strongly. It’s on the sweet side but I find some spice in there, almost a nutmeg quality, though none is mentioned in the notes. It does have sandalwood and vanilla too, which probably add to the gourmand aspect. It’s a pretty complex scent and not simply a tuberose bomb.
Think: very sophisticated eggnog with freshly grated nutmeg on top and some fresh flowers close at hand!
Wow that sounds great
Gosh, that sounds great!
Peach pie!
I’d love a good peach scent. Just about my favorite fruit, and I love making peach tarts.
Multiple sprays of Jour d’Hermes absolut for me, which I now have in my purse. And it looks like my Kelky Calèche extrait has arrived. Enabler pins to a number of you.
No enabler pins, but I also did a bit of a splurge at Purl Soho on some cashmere blend yarn. It was on sale but still hideous. Also got some thread and items to do some Sashiko embroidery on a shirt I bought. We will see.
Peau de Peche is a nice peach.
Yep, that’s the first one that came to mind for me too.
That was my very first peach scent, lovely stuff.
Gucci Rush, Dior J’Adore, Dior Dolce Vita, Piguet Visa, Rouge Bunny Rouge Lilt, Viktoria Minya Hedonist, Burberry Woman/London for Women. Yes I Have A Peach Problem.
I also need peachaolics anonymous.
Dolce Vita is yummy. Diam Blond is nice, animalic apricot.
Mitsouko!!!
Thanks!
I’m not a crafter and had never heard of Sashiko embroidery, but I Googled it and now I know! Love reading this blog!
Oooohh, you bought the KC extrait? Those enablers almost had me, too, but the furthest a bottle ever got was my ebay cart.
YSL Champagne (can’t remember what it was re-named to after the lawsuit); Tauer Fruitchouli Flash.
If you are interested in a Champagne mini, I’d swap it for some of the extrait 😉
Yvresse?
Sounds right, yes.
Ahhh, thanks for the recommendation. I only got a 7.5 ml refill bottle, so can’t really share.
Oh, right – I forgot how tiny they are. Enjoy!
Today I wore my new experiment of Orange Sanguine plus Terracotta. Because I couldn’t decide. It worked out pretty well! I did a mini perfume clear out, and took roughly thirty manufacturers samples to work and left them for people to take. I also left some VS body sprays. I had quite a few Aura samples, and it seemed to be the most popular. I will see what’s left tomorrow.
Your generosity will come back to you. I do believe in “Karma” or just the Biblical “cast your bread upon the waters”. Hope Bear’s wishes came true and that your day got better. Wishing you a lovely Sunday.
Thanks Amyitis. I could use some good Karma.
How’d the experiment work? Sounds creamcicle-y.
Nice to have a large group of women to share your spoils with. I used to give makeup/nail polish/skin/hair care castoffs to my hair stylist, figuring she had a big enough group to have takers for everything.
It turned out pretty good. I think I ended up more floral than creamsicle.
Hoping your weekend got really good in the end, Lillyjo. I wish I had a colleague like you leaving samples at work.
Thanks! The Light Blue lady didn’t take anything, unfortunately ?
I have been MIA forever- first vacation, then catching up, then vacation bible school at my church which wrapped up yesterday. I run the music room and it’s tiring – 3 straight hours of singing and dancing with 140 kids total! So – while on vacation I bought Chanel Paris-Deauville (today’s SOTD); and travel sizes of Heretic Dirty Mango and Blocki This Grand Affair. The latter two are waiting for my August Birthday!
Welcome back! And regarding running the music room, see my comment to Lillyjo above.
Nice to see you! And congratulations on your new purchases ?
I am tired just thinking about 3 hours with 140 kids!
I spent the first half of the day in Moon Bloom, even finished off the decant, and the second half in Diletantte, so it’s been a Hiram Green day. Had a lovely, simple day. Went out for brunch, walked through an urban park to get to a couple stores and stopped 10 minutes to watch some young teens play a league baseball game, picked up a new jigsaw puzzle, and had a scoop of gooey butter cake ice cream. A pretty nice Saturday!
That does sound like a pretty nice Saturday!? Especially the ice cream part.
The ice cream was so good. It’s a seasonal flavor at the shop, and I’ll probably need to eat it again before the month is up.
I have developed an obsession lately with jigsaw puzzles. I bought one to help relax but then the entire family wanted to do it with me so it turned into an unexpected bonding activity
That tends to turn into a “stay up 3 hrs past my bedtime” activity for me. And results in a very sore back.
Yeah it’s hard to walk away from a unfinished puzzle section – or whole puzzle
Yes, if I work on a puzzle too long, I get a sore back too. And I’ve been known to stay up a little past my bedtime for a puzzle.
Oh, I also should have mentioned that we bought a double-sided puzzle! It’s of a vintage dollhouse. One side is the exterior of the dollhouse with a fun vintage wallpaper surrounding it and the other side is the interior of the dollhouse. So this is a new challenge for us.
Double the fun!
About to go to bed in Ineke Field Notes. FB arrived today, got it 20% off in a 4th of July sale.
Failed blind buy arrived Thursday: Guerlain Santal Royal. Just a purse spray. Haven’t skin tested, but my room today reeked from the paper I’d sprayed, and my reaction: Nope. So do I give it a proper skin test? Or call it done? Sigh.
Skin test, of course!
I’d call it done, myself.
Sorry for the bad blind buy 🙁
I say hold on to it, and try it on skin.
Wearing Musc Nomade. Bought a mini blind more that a year ago (a dabber) and couldn’t smell it at first. It took a year of wearing it when I wanted to wear something, but not something demanding attention, to grow on me. I recently bought a full bottle as it is now one of my favourites. I have since decided to not get rid of anything in a haste as some perfumes go out of favor only to return better liked than before. And thanks to Tannina and SKPaint I did go and sample Covet again and you’ll have to wait for the damage polls to hear the outcome…
I really like Musc Nomade. Bought a sample as part of a musk sampler bag and it stood out
Saturday morning I went to read Friday’s thread and saw the comments about the eminent re-opening of SSS. I remembered that I’d been hoarding the last few ml from my Champagne du Bois bottle and spent the day enveloped in a Champagne du Bois bubble. That stuff is glorious. Hoping it gets resurrected; I will buy the biggest bottle available.
Am now enjoying the traces of a 2:30 a.m. spritz of Gourmand Coquin. I woke up and didn’t go back to sleep right away; perfume always helps. The smoky note in this is intoxicating. My bedroom smelled of it all winter long from frequent wearing.
Am craving something citrussy and refreshing for the day, once I’m up and about (Eau du Sud, most likely.) It has been hot and DRY for the past week or so. My skin is not happy. I did a sheet mask last night, followed by winter-level product layering. I may have to do the same every night until the humidity returns. I’ve also added back like 3 more layers to my a.m. routine. Grump.
My H is going to make NYT Peruvian Chicken tonight, which is out-of-this-world delicious. I’m very excited 😀 The cilantro sauce is good enough to bathe in. And now I feel like dinner should be followed by some peaches…
I will Gladly send you some of my humidity! It’s near tropical here.
I will have to look for that recipe. I love cilantro.
And I will happily take it! Barry’s headed our way in the next couple of days, so that ought to do it.
The new owner replied to a comment I made saying how much I loved Jour Ensoleille. Got my hopes up that’ll be one of the ones available. I’ve seen a number if folks mention Champagne de Bois, so hoping it’s popularity puts it high on the list.
What are some SSS scents to try for someone that is new?I had a cart one time but forgot about it, then the shop closed. I like pretty much everything, but I’ve not had much luck with indie houses. I do want to try forest walk I’ve read about that one. Thanks!
Try Yin & Ylang, Bee’s Bliss, Tabac Aurea, Winter Woods, Incense Pure. My favourites. 🙂
Boy that chicken looks good!
This weekend is Art Fair on the Square here. Artists from all over the country line both sides of the street around the four blocks of the capitol. Literally hundreds of booths. I always get up early and try to beat the heat and humidity, but every year more people have the same idea as me.? Last year I got a pair of birthstone earrings that I wear all the time and yesterday I got a little sun pendant. I love having some unique pieces that not everyone else would have.
SotD was Tam Dao again, and when that faded I layered on some Santal Blush which definitely has more staying power. But that price. Ouch.
We ended the day at a nearby county fair. Saw lots of farm animals and then ate some terrible carnival food for dinner. My teenager was aghast, “we’re eating HERE?!?” Lol. It’s good to break out of one’s comfort zone every now and then.
I think today will be Coromandel. It is just so, so good.
Nice! Our art fair starts this weekend
I love art fairs. Ours is almost too big.☹️So many people, but I usually find something to take home.
I adore Coromandel and am so glad I bought the big bottle a couple of years ago — don’t need to worry about running out. You smell great!
I’m considering buying some Tam Dao but need to know the real difference between the edp and the edt. My sample was the edt and I loved it, but if the edp is even better…
My preference is the edp. To my nose, it’s rounder, softer, and denser, while the edt is sharper and more “cedary”. That said, on a close friend, the edt was magical, and the edp wasn’t great, so maybe test if you can?
Thank you. I am trying to avoid having to also order a sample of the edp, but I will probably need to do so.
Thanks!
I’ve tested both and they are pretty similar to my nose, but I find the edt “airier” if that makes sense. The edp is definitely longer lasting though, also more expensive.
I got a good deal on a 30 ml bottle from Neiman Marcus by signing up for their email list and getting a 15% off code. I know some other NSTers took advantage of that deal too. Now I get the additional entertainment of emails promoting $3000 handbags that I will never be able to buy.?
Thank you. Hmmm. I understand what you are saying, but I will most likely end up ordering a sample of the edp, as well. Your last sentence gave me a good giggle.
Ha! I love the idea of eating at a county fair but it’s usually really disappointing. We meant to go to the OH state fair last year but never made it. Maybe this year…
Oh, and forgot to add that I like jewelry shopping at events like that, too. I’ve also found some good stuff at farmers markets, and some great stuff at major art museums. I bought 3 or 4 bracelets for well under $10 at the Seattle Art Museum. One of my favorite pieces I picked up at a hospital gift shop, believe it or not.
I believe it! My hospital gift shop has some really cute stuff! I got my granny’s birthday present there earlier this year.
Yeah the food is not great, to say the least. We try to buy from the 4-H stands vs the carnival stands. That way I feel like my money is going back into the community and is for a good cause.
I love art fairs and especially buying jewelry from the artist. And I LOVE county fairs.
There is something kind of special about buying jewelry right from the person who made it.
County fairs take me right back to my childhood. Despite all that technology has changed in the world, they are still the same. ?
We don’t have art fairs in these here parts unless I go to NY. I do love buying from the artists directly so I make it a point to visit Bryant Park during the holidays; however, may each year passes, more stores seem to be more commercialized.
I have the edp, and had decant of the edt. When I wore the edt, I had someone practically swooning and loving Coromandel. It’s great stuff!
A friend and I designed our own fragrances at Note Fragrances yesterday (no affiliation). My creation was a spicy carnation/rose and fairly successful, I think! More importantly, it was so much fun to play with all the different notes in predictable and strange combinations. In my next life, I want to be a perfumer!
That sounds like so much fun
It was! If we go back, I’ll try to design something wacky with pineapple or something.
Sounds great – I would wear it!
A lovelt cool breezy morning, someone on FB mentioned Mon Guerlain so I decided to wear that today. Husband likes it, always a plus.
I wore that last week. It’s very satisfying. I like Mon Exclusif as well.
I started through the comments yesterday but got derailed by Pixel’s split- I’ve been wanting to try that lavender but didn’t want to commit to a whole bottle, eventhough they’re inexpensive. So, thanks Pixel!
I had a rosy weekend, perfume-wise: I wore Dior La Colle Noire during the day and topped off with SL Sa Majeste… last night. Kashan Rose today.
I went down a new rabbit hole which is semi-precious gemstone bracelets. I love those simple elastic beaded bracelets you get in those Tibetan stores. So many beautiful stones out there, but they’re like $20 and up per bracelet. I also need to restring a bracelet whose elastic is losing its tensile strength so that started the the etsy and Amazon quest 1st for elastic, then the beads.
I ordered dragon’s blood jasper, labradorite, and peridot to start. Should be fun and a lot cheaper than buying them made already!
Have fun! It is a new rabbit hole!
Oh that sounds so fun!!! Also, you’ve smelled so great and rosy the past few days!
My mom used to make jewelry and sell them at a mall cart. She and my dad used to go to New York to buy the beads wholesale. I’m pretty sure there are boxes of semi-precious stone beads in the basement. I know exactly which shelves, just not what in which boxes!
?oh, let the sun beat down upon my face? gorgeous sunshine today. The best day of this coming week weather wise. Sotd is Orchid Soliel.
I still have some samples here at work that were left. Complaints I heard were too musky or too sweet. Lol, fragrance is SO subjective. ?
……beneath the summer moon, I will return again ?
I’ve smelled Velvet Orchid which is very TUBEROSE (and I like it! ), but not the Soleil.
Reviews site a creamy base, can you provide your opinion, lillyjo?
Chestnuts, maybe?
Castagna ! LOL ??
Not lilyjo, but my first response to Orchid Soleil was that it smells like buttercream frosting (and not necessarily in a good way.) But I kept going back for more & more licks off the spoon and have grown to like/love (it’s still a bit too rich sometimes.)
It smells very similar to the deep drydown of Elle L’Aime, but like x200, because Tom Ford.
Thanks kpaint!
Orchid Soliel is extremely creamy. To me, it has the texture of sweetened condensed milk. It has taken me many samples to be able to wear it, and not think it is overwhelming. I really only have terracotta to compare it with, but it’s bigger tuberose, more depth, imo, sexier. That could be the Tom Ford association though, lol.
I love it when you sing back to me??
Agreed on all of this. Also I adore that bottle.
Thanks lillyjo! ????
You smell so good, lillyjo!
Thanks KellyC!
I’m not wearing a peachy scent today. I’m in my recent purchase of EL’s Bronze Goddess. But I am eating a lot of peaches lately! The shops are full of traditional peaches and wild peaches and I can’t choose between them, so I buy both! The wild peaches are a bit sweeter.
When it gets very hot again, I’ll be wearing my beloved Ramon Monegal’s Dubai Next to Me, which is very boozy and peachy. It is also such a powerhouse that it makes Jungle Elephant seem like a total lightweight! So I first put on a light spray of Portrait of a Lady and then spritz Dubai into the air and walk through it. That is the only scent I own that I don’t spray directly onto my skin. I use the POAL to make it a bit more feminine.
My other “peach” scent is Keiko Mecheri’s Passiflora, which to me smells very much like freshly cut nectarines (although most people interpret it as a mango note). It is a lovely, deliciously fresh yet floral fragrance. Alas, like everything I’ve tried from KM, it disappears very quickly and needs to be reapplied often. (It does last on fabric).
Love Bronze Goddess.
For years, I read about it here but could never get a sample and no shops here had testers. Finally, this month, one nearby store had a tester. Loved it! (Very similar to the L.E. Lancaster Sole di Capri I had a few years back and used up.)
Article in SF Chronicle today on how SF rejects perfume. Nothing new here for nst readers, but I thought the graphic was amusing: https://www.sfchronicle.com/style/article/Why-does-San-Francisco-turn-up-its-nose-at-14086338.php
I had to smile at “fancy Sephora-level perfume”
“Un-fancy” would be what… those stalls in malls?
Our unscented world makes me a little sad.
Clearly the author is unaware of the existence of Tiger Lily and ZGO. 🙂
Retesting Trayee this morning. I remember really liking this the first time I tried it, but am less enthused now. Maybe it’s the warmer weather. Or maybe it’s my nose again – I’m having sinus trouble and everything seems to smell differently lately. Yesterday I spritzed on Mediterraneo and it disappeared in about two minutes – it’s always a bit fleeting, but not usually THAT fleeting.
Trayee is a bit of a changeling. I love it at first sniff than doubted it at second sniff, only to fall for it again much later. I ended up buying a bottle and have no regrets.
L´Air de Rien yesterday, today i sampled some vintage Janine D. at my boyfriends mother. She didn’t like it or use it, so i got a new vintage perfume.
On the way home i stopped in Ulm at the railway station for the boyfriend to catch the train to Munich. Hospital admission is tomorrow morning, the surgery is planned for the day after….
Now wearing Full Incense, hope it makes me less sad.
Good vibes sent your way, Tannina.
I hope everything goes well and you get some positive news after the operation. Thinking of you.
Wishing good health for your boyfriend.
Best wishes for a successful operation.
Will be thinking of you and your boyfriend, and hoping the surgery goes well. *virtual hugs*
Sending positive vibes for your bf and you!
Sending healing vibes!
Sending positive vibes!
Commando most of yesterday. We went to see a fireworks display in a nearby park. They had food trucks, too, which I was quite interested in. 😀 The fireworks were nice.
At bedtime, I put on a spray of Berdoues Peng Lai.
Commando so far today.
Food trucks and fireworks sound fun!
Yes. 🙂 I got souvlaki and spanakopita from a food truck that I think was called “Phyllodelphia.” I got arancini (rice balls) from another truck, and from another, I got “red, white and blueberry” gelato, which I shared. 🙂 I passed the gelato over to Mom to share, and she just kept eating it until I noticed she hadn’t passed it back. lol
In the early evening — put on 4711 Lemon & Ginger body spray. And then sprayed again a couple of hours later. 🙂
Been commando all weekend at the lake. I love my our airstream weekends. They’re like mini vacations. We really needed some peace and quiet after the whirlwind of having the kids in town. Will probably do some sample testing after I get home and shower though. Will report back!
Glad you are getting quiet time ?
I am envious of your Airstream getaways. I just love getting out of the city.
Sounds like a wonderful way to spend the weekend!
Just back home late from a full day outing. Hermes Eau de Neroli Dore kept me company for most of day but it’s pretty much gone now, will think of some big perfume for tonight.
Love eating peaches, the definition of summer but not so fond of peaches in perfume, except in Diorella and Jaipur.
I used to like the original Jaipur very much, never tried a current version. Have you?
Boucheron discontinued the original Jaipur, there is a flanker still in production: Jaipur Bracelet but I haven’t tried it.
Totally agree with you the original one is fruity goodness.
Yesterday, I finished the last of Le Labo 39 iris oil. It was nice, but never satisfied my iris cravings. Too fleeting and not worth the price.
I have also been trying for the last couple of days some Nomenclature samples that a generous NSTer sent me.
Para_iso and Adr_ett were too bland, watery, with no depth. Not full bottle or decant worthy.
I found Holy_Wood and Shi_ So more appealing. I liked Shi_So very much, but unfortunately all scents are very fleeting, with very low sillage. It was interesting try them, though.
Thanks for the mini reviews! Some of those names seem unnecessarily complicated, lol
Agree!
Glad to get your take on the LL. I consider you the iris authority!??
Thank you, I wish?.
I have not tried the perfume, so I don’t know how it performs, but definitely the oil behaved very poorly on me, in every season.
This line feels goofy to me, but I do like Efflor_esce.
I still have to try that one. Hopefully, I would like it better than the others. However. Shi_ So wear really good on me and I like it a lot!
JM Orris and Sandalwood to end the weekend. Such a peaceful scent, imo.
