Hump Day and Nikola Tesla Day and Piña Colada Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in L'Artisan Parfumeur Drôle de Rose, because PriscillaE mentioned it yesterday, and because we have a L'Artisan review from Kevin coming up later today.
Reminder: 7/12 will be Henry David Thoreau's birthday, aka Simplicity Day. Do absolutely whatever you like with the theme. (My favorite piece about Thoreau and Walden: Pond Scum: Henry David Thoreau’s moral myopia, from The New Yorker back in 2015. The other side: In Defense of Thoreau: He may have been a jerk, but he still matters at The Atlantic. Also, from a couple years after the original kerfluffle: A Radical for All Seasons: The surprising persistence of Henry David Thoreau in The Nation.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Sous le Vent by Guerlain
I found this one ☝️ and I forgot how much I adore it
Wow, you smell really good!
Yes, that’s an amazing scent, a beauty! I have to find my bottle now!
I wish I had a bottle…
I know. I had a ridiculous splurge one day and bought it and two others. What was I thinking.
Thanks, I think I smell good too
Would love to magically find this one at a thrift/antique store some day. It smells amazing.
Me too!
Byredo Pulp. Just delicious!
Are you outside again today?
Yes, and for the rest of the week! ?
You are really having a upbeat perfume week!?
Trying my best to stay cheerful despite the “wonderful” heat! ???
Pulp is mouth-wateringly good!
I am not a big fan of fruity scents, but Pulp is one of the few that I really love.
I am wearing
(drumroll)
Bruno Acampora Prima T!
Thanks to all for sending me “find it” energy. It was in the S drawer, under some Smell Bent samples, despite not having an S anywhere in its name. It is, as predicted, a glorious narcissus. It reminds me a lot of First, though, which I have too much of to warrant a similar purchase. Interestingly, First came out in 1976 and this came out in 1977 and Prima means First in Italian… hmmmm
Congrats! I love that you have such a methodical storage system (even if there are bumps along the way 😉 )
Hurray! Did you have to start with “A” and keep going ’til you got to “S”? A funny thing just occurred to me, something clicked and I thought hmm… don’t I have a Bruno Acampora sample set? Yes, yes I do! Plus, I found it! Prima T is in there, and I’m looking forward to trying it as I love narcissus. Also, good to know that you feel First scratches that itch for you. I um, have that too! But I’m not looking for it today! Today is gonna be simple!
Yep, that’s exactly what I did! ? Please report back on those samples, I like this one enough that I’m considering ordering more!
(As this develops I’m finding it more chypre-ish than First, which yum)
Ooh, even better!
Will do!
Huzzah for finding your wayward sample!
Day 2 in Angel Innocent. It’s scratching an itch I didn’t know I had. IIRC, Elisa (our famed poet) described this as “all about the tonka,” and, yes. It’s also one of the smooooothest perfumes I’ve worn in a long time and I love the development in the drydown. Quite far removed from the original, I might add.
Post-shower last night I slathered myself in Bronze Goddess oil then topped it off with Elle L’Aime. I smelled delicious.
In other words, I am having some really good perfume days. I feel like it’s been a long time since I’ve sniffed around and thought, “What IS that that smells so good?” “Is that me?” “Yes, that’s ME. OMG I smell good.”
I had a really great perfume day in Cèdre Sambac yesterday, I love it when that happens.
It’s so satisfying! Good perfume days are good; great perfume days are heavenly.
Hooray for good perfume days! May there be many, many more.
So glad for your good perfume days, kpaint 🙂
Wishing the same for everyone! ?
Where did you find this Angel? Did I miss a new release?
It’s been around for a long time. Just was never really marketed. It’s a very easy going Angel. You can find it at Mugler website and discounters still.
Not new, just new to me.
Kai perfume oil, but just a dab. Afraid it will be overwhelming in this heat.
I have not worn Kai in ages, I should see if I still have some!
It’s Indochine for me today – coziness for a damp, rainy day. Wish I could stay home and curl up with a book and a cup of tea, but must drag myself off to work. Reluctantly.
What are you reading these days
I just started a collection of Ursula LeGuin stories – some are short stories, and some are long enough to be considered novellas, and the book description seems to say that they’re all centered around the universe and the Hainish people that she invented as sort of metaphors for humans and to provide a platform for writing her thoughts on how humans cope and react to different circumstances. I’ve only finished one of them so far, but it was beautifully written.
Her work is wonderful, and she is missed. She had a standalone story published in The New Yorker magazine one time, about a woman getting ready to leave her family to go on some sort of long, risky expedition – the whole thing was an exercise in what would the world be like if this were a totally normal thing for a woman to do. I remember little bits of it vividly, and I have tried to find it, but I have not been able to locate it. Enjoy your reading….
This sounded interesting so I looked for it too, and can’t find it. Here is everything they have for her:
https://www.newyorker.com/contributors/ursula-k-le-guin
Wait, I wonder if it is the story Sur? Here is their summary:
A SUMMARY REPORT OF THE YELCHO EXPEDITION TO THE ANTARCTIC, 1909-10. An unpublished account of an expedition to Antarctica, the first ever to reach the South Pole, mounted in August of 1909. The author helped to organize the all-female effort, which received its funding from a benefactor whose identity cannot be revealed. All nine participants were from South America: the author and Juana (who actually suggested the trip) from Peru; Zoe, Berta, and Teresa, all from Argentina and four Chileans–Carlota, Eva, Pepita, and Dolores. The women were carried by a Chilean ship, the Yelcho, commanded by Captain Luis Pardo. The author had been fascinated since childhood with tales of southern journeys; she read Captain Scott’s Voyage of the Discovery itself a thousand times. The women all met for the first time on Aug. 17, 1909, in Punta Arenas, Chile. Although the expedition was to be leaderless, a hierarchy of three was chosen that would be responsible for making decisions in the event of urgent danger; the author was to be the one first turned to. To her relief, her qualities as a leader were never tested. Describes the six-month journey: the ship entered the Ross Sea…. (it goes on)
And that story has its own Wikipedia page:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sur_(short_story)
meredifay, that sounds like something I’d like to read – I really enjoy reading when the writing is so good. And Robin – wow, thank you so much for all the research! Hoping to run across that short story, either in my current anthology or elsewhere. (If I find it amongst the others in my current read, I’ll report back!)
Oh, i love LeGuin and read a lot of her books. scifi fan here!
Confession: I have always loved the smell of laundry detergent–that strong clean smell–and have long looked for a fragrance that reminds me of it. I found it in Hilde Soliani Purezza, which I am wearing today.
Byredo Sundazed smells exactly like laundry detergent. Worth trying if you have not yet.
If you wanted to add a bit of linden blossom in there as well, you could also try L’ete en douce by L’artisan.
Wearing MdO Santal Nabataea for this lovely sunny day. DH said I smelled like a workshop full of fresh cut wood. 🙂
Nice! I assume he likes fresh cut wood? ?
He liked the smell, but not as a perfume. 🙂
I’m wearing my favorite of the Hermes Jardin line, Un Jardin Sur La Toit.
I’m also wearing La Toit. And it’s also my favorite of the line. We smell great. In fact, numerous people with whom I work have told me that today.
Oh, I am so glad to see these comments, because Sur le Toit is also my favorite from the line — and it seems like more people prefer Monsieur Li? I would say Sur le Toit is my #1 and Sur le Nil #2.
I would have guessed Sur Le Nil as the bestseller. Wish Hermes would tell us, I am curious.
Sur le Nil is my #1 with Mediterranee and Sur le Toit tied for #2
I love Monsieur Li and wear it often. Perfect for a hot summer, as is Sur le Toit. It has been a while since I’ve worn the whole range enough to compare them. I think Mediterranee had too much fig for me.
Packing today, off to London tomorrow…..just a quick spritz of Fille de Berlin before a pedicure appointment then clean out the kitchen, water the plants, and head for the airport…..will report back at some point over the next three weeks as I travel back to NYC by way of Iceland and Canada via the Queen Mary 2. Bucket list, trip of a lifetime.
You smell great, jepster! Hope you have a wonderful trip! London is my very favorite city to visit.
Oh, my that sounds amazing. The QM2, wow! I want to see pics! Have a fantastic trip! Hope it’s everything you dreamed of.
Bon Voyage!
Safe travels! Trip of a lifetime, indeed. HAVE FUN.
Enjoy your trip!
How exciting! Wow! I hope it’s wonderful. Also hope you have enough time to explore a bit of Iceland, which is an amazingly scenic place.
Hope you have a fantastic trip!
Enjoy your trip. And safe travels!
What an amazing trip! Bon voyage!
Have a wonderful trip!
Have a great trip!
Enjoy your trip!
Have a great time! My in-laws did London and back to NY on the QM2 last year.
Experiencing major trip envy here; just sayin’… Hope you have a wonderful time!
Have a fabulous time!
Wow! Have a great time.
That sounds fantastic! Stay safe and have fun!
Have a wonderful vacation!
Oh wow! Safe travels, and enjoy your trip! I hope it is everything you have dreamed.
Annick Goutal Nifeo Mio with a cup of green jasmin tea.
You smell wonderful!
Nice matching!
Chergui for me today. I’m one of the weirdos who thinks the best time to wear it is in the heat of summer. Probably because it smells like hay, and hot, dry days in the summer are when you make hay.
Must try it in summer, sounds like a good idea
I bet it smells great in summer! I will have to give it a try.
I honestly don’t think I’ve ever worn it in summer. Must try!
Okay, now I want to try this in the summer too!
Working from home today and smelling good in Songes.
You are smelling good!
You smell gorgeous!
Thanks for doing this Simplicity Day theme, Robin!
After a long while of going commando and divesting myself of a lot of stuff (both physical and otherwise) and learning how to let go in general, I suddenly found myself getting obsessed again with smelling all the things. That can be fun, but sometimes I find it anxiety-provoking. Or maybe anxiety provoked it? Ah well…
Anyway, this week is a good reset for me to once again be more intentional with my time and the direction I want my life to go.
Sotd is DSH’s Eau Cerise, a bright, tart, refreshing cherry. Cherries are my favorite fruit and for me, this is the only cherry fragrance that does them justice as they are in nature. Perhaps some day I will layer on Heeley’s L’ Amandiere to see what a green tart cherry almond smells like. Just not today! Hope everyone has a wonderful day!
Cherries might be my favorite fruit, too. I missed cherry season last year entirely but bought some this weekend. Red ones (not sure what variety) and some Rainiers from our home state (Washington, the country’s cherry capital.) The Rainiers had a sign that called them Queen Ann or Queenies or something but the bags they were in said “Rainier Cherries from Chelan, WA.” Score!
Oh yeah, the Rainier cherries are amazing!
I love Eau Cerise. I only wish she made it in EDP because the voile concentration barely lasts a couple hours on me.
My need to smell all the things (and sometimes buy all the things) often gives me anxiety too, so I understand. I’m already anxiety- prone, so that doesn’t help. I’ve mentioned before that the size of my collection also gives me anxiety. I think I’ll feel a lot better if I can work to reduce decants and purchase them very minimally.
I’m also anxiety-prone and having piles and piles of decants and samples made me stressed out, were guilt-inducing, and made it harder rather than easier to find something to wear. The amount of money I was spending on them made all of that even worse.
I gave tons of them away, and cut way back on buying. It’s now been a couple of years since I’ve placed a decant order. I should probably just unsubscribe from STC & TPC since I delete all of their emails the minute they come in.
But I’ve also just cut back my perfume spending by huge amounts (like by 90% when I was in my “smell all the things” phase.) I buy really judiciously because I’m at a point where it’s not something I want to spend a ton of money on. A few years of Donatella-ing really helped me see my way out of things.
So I can totally relate.
I go through cycles like this too… what has helped me the most (other than anxiety meds of course) is realizing that the cycles are ok; it’s normal not to feel the same way about something all the time, and I can try to smell all the things when I feel like it, and whittle down when I feel like it too…
Great advice, Regina!
Oh, yes – I’m not suggesting a perfume famine by any means. And I don’t think that beating one’s self up helps (quite the opposite.) For myself, I had to get to a place where it wasn’t stressing me out and was bringing pleasure instead.
My financial picture also changed quite drastically in the intervening years, so by necessity I had to learn to prioritize all of my spending – not just on perfume.
Yes, it definitely goes in cycles for me too, I find it best to just go with the flow (unless the flow is running you broke).
Thanks for chiming in, therabbitsflower. Sometimes I find it so easy to get caught up in that seductive cycle and it feels exciting and then bam! I’m overwhelmed. Since I have a tsunami of samples, I think that I will start with reducing my decants. cazaubon offered a great tip, which is that she simply let go of samples that didn’t excite her…even if never sniffed. (I think I got that right.) Something that helps me get rid of anything I haven’t used is to acknowledge that I had fun looking forward to it and that alone is enough. I don’t have to devote more time to it, and I’m not willing to have it affect my emotional well-being. Plus hey, I love eating out which is expensive and a transient experience but fun nonetheless and I don’t beat myself up over that!
And um, for future reference, Eau Cerise is offered as an EDP. ?
What, it is?! I am certain that it was only in VdP when I bought my 3ml spray, otherwise I would have gone with the EDP. That is great to know!
Yep, I checked the DSH website today just to make sure it’s still available and it is!
Yeah, a chicken or the egg question, right? Either way, if smelling all the things doesn’t make the anxiety better, it is better to stop 🙂
Exactly.
I just want to share that I found this whole thread very thoughtful
Thanks for sharing that, yasmina. I’m sure we’ll revisit it often in some form or another as it’s been a recurring topic!
Its raining today.
SotD is Narcisse, by Chloé
Blast from the past: A 90s powerhouse. i wore it in high school hahaha. My then-boyfriend loved it. One spray will last all day. And folks can smell you before they see you 😉
Been very busy last week with loads of social events (parties, bbq etc) and searching and applying for jobs of course. So far no invitations but I sent out my first letters last friday…
Spending the rest of my time reading.
For my book club we had to read Normal people, by Sally Rooney, not my cup of tea, but very well written.
I also read the comic Happy (the series is on Netflix now, and is very funny…. Its very violent and bloody though, so not for everyone i guess)
….and trying out new recipes (some Vietnamese and Korean food…. And now I am craving more asian food, haha, so maybe I will try a traditional kung pao recipe tomorrow)
My husband has been working on kung pao recently, with me as the happy taste-tester. And I loved Happy! Your comment just made me look and realize there is a season 2, nice to have that to look forward to.
I also love the music in Happy….lots of awesome tunes.
Ill let you know how my kung pao turned out.
The recipe i found is quite simple with szechuan peppers and chili peppers, two types of soy sauce, rice wine and black rice vinegar. Oh and it has peanuts in it.
Thanks for the recipe idea. smittenkitchen.com has a nice looking pulled pork recipe up at present. I think I will be trying it out over the weekend.
Mmmm, I like her recipes, and her first book as well. Please report back if you can!
Korean and Vietnamese are two of my favorites! Yum!
Yesssss.
Nice to hear from you Jiji! Your cooking experiments sound delicious.
Sampling MEM Bogue
Thanks neyronrose!
MintY herbal lavender, eucalyptus, and ylang ylang
Interesting.
You smell great!
I really dig MEM, I usually avoid that amount of lavender, but coming from Bogue I just had to try it. If I remember it also had ambergris in it…yum.
You’re very welcome, Bear. 🙂 I’m glad it went to someone who could try it properly. 🙂
Wednesday!
1)It’s cloudy and raining. Very damp July indeed and I am not hating it one bit(My hair is super frizzed out!), after the crazy heat we have had the past few years.
However, Alaska is having a heat wave, so…
2) I am in Molinard’s Jasmin on top of Prim Botanicals Body oil. It feels really lovely in this warm, humid weather.
SOTD = Hermes Eau des Merveilles Bleue
On theme as this reminds me of a rock pool where the water is so clear you can see everything down to the bottom.
Update on the search for hajusuuri’s latest perfume obsession – the limited edition Guerlain 190 Ans de Creations 1828-2018 Parfum Absolu: my heart skipped a beat when I got a text from the Guerlain SA which started with “My manager located”….the $14,000 bee bottle. Ermm, no! Just no! Imagine if I bought it – this would be the ultimate confession to Donatella and then I have to disappear. So the search continues for a more affordable size / bottle. The SA is still on the lookout!
Thanks for the chuckle. Please don’t disappear! But yes, what a confession that would be!
Heh! Just kidding about disappearing!
LOL!
Seriously, I was getting ready to whip out my cesspit card until I saw the extra zero.
That’s only a purchase the Real Donatella would make. Oy.
Good point!
Think of the commission that would be for the SA!
Yep! I don’t know what that rate is but regardless, a small % of a large amount should still be decent.
Oh come on, hajusurri, live a little! You know you want that bottle! 😉
My live a little would be to go on 4 nice vacations for that $$$$$!
Just do it! Its a bee bottle!
I think I’ll survive with a picture of a bee bottle ?
Haha! Wowzers.
Maybe you could do a split ?
Maybe with the smaller amount I will do a split ?
OMG. Well, hopefully she will eventually find one in a regular bottle. :-0
From your lips to the perfume god’s ears.
Tuberose Gardenia, again. Which has been absorbed almost completely by the combo of hot humid weather and the office/home AC. I am home for lunch and could reapply., but maybe I will just let it dwindle and see how the day goes. (I will probably visit friends later today, and I know that both of these BWFs are difficult for many people to tolerate, so I generally spray TG only when I expect to be alone.)
But you do smell fantastic skalolazka!
Matching my shower gel today in Provence Sante Linden EDT. I was so enjoying it in the shower so I decided to fully commit to the scent. I love that the shower gel aroma lingers on skin for a while.
Robin, have we ever done a CP that is to match your perfume to your shower product of the day? Could be shower gel, soap, bubble bath, shampoo, etc. Not sure what exactly the folks who use unscented everything in the shower would do, but I’m sure we could figure something out. And of course, it doesn’t need to be an exact match like mine. Just using your chosen bath and shower product as inspiration.
FWIW: I like your CP idea!
I am pretty sure we have but will have to look…
Yeah, it sounds familiar, but I don’t know if it’s because we’ve done it before or if I’ve thought it before.
We did
Layered Friday: layer two or more fragrances, or layer fragrance(s) with a scented body product.
Skip the perfume if you dare, and wear one or more scented body products
both in 2015. We can certainly do a new variation on the theme…
Ahh thanks, Robin! I am pretty sure I interpreted the first of the two as lotion or oil rather than a bath product. Can’t recall if I had the same interpretation of the other one. There’s probably no need to do a new variation on the theme, but I really do enjoy my shower gel and perfume pairings some mornings!
You smell good! I think it’s a cool weather linden for me. The honey makes it feel quite warm.
Yes, I think I agree. I don’t think I’ve worn it on a hot day since I bought the bottle last year. This morning was rainy, cool, and humid, and it seemed to do well with that.
Commando so far perfume-wise, though I’ll probably try more of the 4711 body sprays. 🙂
This morning’s tea was the same as yesterday’s — Numi’s toasted rice green tea.
Do you have a lot of the 4711 sprays?
I got a couple of the 4711 Acqua Colonia colognes from Pixel when she ended up getting the 5.7 oz. bottles. The ones she had left to split were the Myrrh & Kumquat and the Pink Pepper & Grapefruit. I haven’t had much chance to try the Myrrh & Kumquat, but I’ve been using the Pink Pepper & Grapefruit pretty often.
I decided to try more, but I didn’t want to do a blind buy of the 5.7 oz. bottles, so I went with the 2.5 oz. body sprays of the Acqua Colonia fragrances, which only last a little while.
I’ve gotten a good try of the Lime & Nutmeg, which I like. I tried the Lemon & Ginger before bed one night, but I was too congested to get much of an idea of the fragrance. (Darn these allergies!) I liked what I got of it, though.
I just tried the White Peach & Coriander a little while before my bath. My arm started to itch, so I wasn’t sorry about washing that off pretty quickly. From what I got, the peach was quite sweet. I like the taste of cilantro, but apparently I’m not a particular fan of the smell of coriander as a major ingredient in a fragrance. That will be one to pass along.
The one I haven’t tried yet is the Mandarine & Cardamom. I like the scent of the fruit and the spice individually. I’ll post on how I feel about the combination.
Briefly tried the White Peach & Coriander body spray. Sadly, I seem to be allergic to something, because my arms got itchy. That may be one to pass along.
I’ve been curious about that one for a while. I may be interested in swapping you for,it…
Sure. We can talk. 🙂 The body sprays are even more fleeting than the colognes, but at 2.5 oz. and less than $20 per bottle, I have no regrets about resprays. 🙂

It’s also NATIONAL KITTEN DAY!!
https://nationaltoday.com/national-kitten-day/
Congrats to all your furry babies!??
Thanks! No kittens, alas, but I’m thinking of fostering another batch. It’s so much fun, and the shelters are all overflowing right now.
Oh, boo on me for missing that!
Save it for next year. Since I have 20 zillion cat friends, I was bound to find out!
Hi NST.
Like a couple of other martyrs here, I also started work again on Monday after two weeks of sun and sea. Not good.
Wore Chergui for comfort, but yesterday got to try SJP Covet at the local consignment store. I didn’t think it was quite me, like Robin I get citronella candles, but it is sitting here in my subconscious and I would love to try it again. I think Tannina recently had good things to say about this. Plse chime in here – any opinions would be appreciated. I’ve started to have more criteria to be met before I buy. In the past I bought if it was interesting or lovely or I had an emotional response to a perfume. But I still ended up with way too many perfumes that I rarely wear. So, I guess wearability and “no brainer” should be criteria too?
I like the funny chocolate lavender note. Its good when its warm, but not for really hot weather. Even the boyfriend says its not too bad, and he doesnt approve of most of my perfumes.
Covet has the best green lemon note I have personally smelled in a perfume. Maybe if you got a sample and figured out if you liked it or not?
Lingering in the conscious mind is a good reason to revisit. Can you back to the store for more sprays?
The above was for Amyitis.
Sotd is Lea. Simplicity in that it is my perfume with the shortest name. It also has a short list of notes, just musc, vanilla and almond. I love it but I am sure not going to pay $400 for a back up bottle I saw recently on eBay. When it’s gone, it’s gone I guess.
Whew, $400 for a BUB!!!! Definitely out of my league lol.
Yep, definitely out of mine too. It’s a discontinued scent, but still.
Cypre Siam for chypre week. Today i mostly got ylang, not much oakmoss.
Now sampling SL Fourreau Noir, because i could get a 30ml bottle cheap … Reminds me of a fur coat in a wardrobe with lavender sachets….interesting. 30€ is nothing for a 30ml bell bottle, dont you think so???
I think we would all agree that is perfume math free!
Definitely worth a purchase if you enjoy it. I personally love Fourreau Noir.
For some odd reason I thought scheduling a mammogram for 7:30 AM was a good idea. Ugh! Didn’t even get coffee first. Anywhoo, was commando at first due to that, but grabbed a Nirvana French Grey sample for after. Not my favorite of the Nirvanas but perfectly acceptable for work.
Happy Hump Day, fine smelling friends!
I make early appointments thinking I just want to get it over with. When the day comes I’m saying what was I thinking!?
This exactly haha.
Yup!
I’m surprised someone was there to answer the phone that early. At least you got the phone call part over!
I once called the Breast Clinic where I got mammos (and where there were clearly women there dealing with cancer every time I went to appointments) and was put on hold. The hold music was the theme song to Love Story.
? Really????
Ugh! So wrong.
Oh no, I made the call a couple of weeks ago and scheduled the actual test at 7:30 AM. I’m not a morning person so I don’t know what I was thinking. I think like lillyjo said, I thought at the time I’d just get it over with before work. Looking back on it, I’m definitely more of a lunch time mammogram person! 😆 And oh my gosh, that is SO bad!
Oh, dear god! I’ve agreed to some 10 a.m. appts here and there and deeply regretted every one! Not a morning person either.
Will also add that it takes a very special lady to give mammograms. They’re always amazing and I’m always in awe. I’ve never had a bad experience. Hope yours went well.
Omg, that is so bad ? One of the hospitals I go to for work had the gyn oncology patients on the post-partum unit, in the same rooms!!! It was so enraging.
What the effing eff??? I have no words.
Good luck!
On the plus side, I’ve been told by a couple of mammo techs that having caffeine before your appointment makes things hurt even more. So maybe the early morning wasn’t such a bad idea.
I’m wearing No.19 today.
lovely!
Perfect, of course.
Good stuff!
I’m wearing OJ Tolu, from a big sample vial I just rediscovered. I seem to recall loving it during the first hour, and then thinking that the middle and late stages weren’t as superb. This is what usually happens to me with Ormonde Jayne – I lovelovelove the first spritz, and often feel the urge to go out and buy a bottle of whatever I’m testing. About an hour later, I find myself thinking I can live without it. That’s not to say I don’t like the perfumes later, I just get over the “OMG I need a bottle of this right now!” impulse. I find most OJ scents to be really well done (Woman and Isfarkand immediately come to mind), but I (oddly) wish that they were more linear.
I would love a bottle of Isfarkand. I have a travel size of Woman I adore and I think you smell amazing in Tolu. I actually love a lot of the OJs now that I think about it.
Hey Lisa D. Trying to remember if you’re the one who lives in a Ridgecrest. I take it all is okay?
Hi, LizzieB – yep, I’m the lucky girl. Ground is still rolling occasionally, but life is getting back on track. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the 7.1 was the big one!
Glad to hear it. Yes. Let’s hope that was the biggest. After Loma Prieta, I found myself quickly looking at my cat every time I felt something. If she was still snoozing, I knew it was just a truck going by.
Wearing L’Artisan 9 Arcana Rosa today, from a sample that’s about to run dry. I love this spicy rose. It’s making me smile, but the price is making me frown. ?
Wearing L’Attesa this morning and it is proving to be quite austere. Might have needed something more chipper on a grey day.
Carnal Flower today since I wore some out last night and I especially like it when it’s hot and steamy out.
Just visited a friend (my friend’s wife) who is a patient at one of my hospitals. She was hit by a car a month ago and fortunately only broke her arm. Her husband showed up at our 4th bbq without her saying she was down with a flu and how weak she was and he imitated her walking to me and I told him he should take her to the ER. She has presumed Guillain-Barre syndrome. Poor woman has really gotten slammed ?
Oh my, that’s tough! Hoping for the best and quickest recovery for your friend’s wife —
Thanks, me too!
Or she could have spinal stenosis. I did. No pain in my back/neck at all, but I became super clumsy (broke my foot walking) and started having trouble buttoning my shirts. I am so glad your friend shared with you what was going on and then took her to the ER!!!
Sorry you have to contend with that ? It can be quite painful.
No, it’s not a structural issue. They’ve done the million $ workup on her. Her speech and swallowing are affected and her diaphragm, mildly.
Oh no! My dad has been dealing with Guillain-Barré for four years after a flu. Not fun.
Fortunately her symptoms are on the milder side and I think she has age on her side, too. Sorry for your dad! Sounds pretty miserable!
Yikes! Sending healing vibes for your friend’s wife!
Thank you Jalapeno! She needs all the good vibes she can get!
I’m wearing Lonestar Memories from a rapidly evaporating decant. 🙁
The evaporation problem has really put me off buying decants over the last year or so. Which is probably a good thing (the not buying, I mean), but I’m also a bit sad, because there are so many frags that I want a bit of, but not a whole bottle. (And so many here would feel the same, I know!)
My simplicity strategy for the rest of the week may be to just use up what’s left in the decant and enjoy it while I can.
It’s very frustrating, isn’t it? I try to find the smallest possible bottle of whatever I want, or minis, or “closed systems” like mfr samples. But those aren’t always options. It’s also one of the reasons I bought some things, then signed up for Olfactif – 8 ml spray bottles that aren’t decants. But their selection is limited.
Also —
I went to the Tauer website the other day to finally buy some samples and one of those little minis. He can no longer ship samples or the minis outside of a few EU countries due to new Swiss shipping regulations. Maybe others were already aware; it was (very disappointing) news to me.
OTOH, he does make small bottles if you can get enough people to split a set… So that kinda sorta might solve the Tauer issue. Other companies really give one no options beyond decanting.
That is disappointing news about the new Tauer shipping restrictions. Makes me grateful that I already purchased the Tauer minis I wanted.
I haven’t checked but they might still be available on Luckyscent? Or maybe they never were…
His sampling service was great, though, and so reasonably priced.
What a bummer that the Tauer minis and samples are now off limits to the US! Very happy I got the samples I did.
Yep, I’ve sworn off decants too for the same reason. Really maddening when FB options are expensive and overly large.
Such a shame Andy can’t sell samples or minis any more, I know it was very good for his business and his customers. And it’s so silly! DHL flies shipments of perfume all over the world without incident, yet post offices are banning perfume shipments of eventhe smallest amounts. Super annoying.
I’m sure I’m ignoring lots of important distinctions and details regarding various methods of shipping — but it kills me that I can order a full bottle for delivery to the US, but not samples. SMH.
Still on my Rogue odyssey–today in Derviche. This sample was smaller than the others, but still perfectly respectable in size. Its a tobacco scent, that goes on slightly challenging but morphs to cozy within about 5 minutes. If you are looking for a cozy pipe tobacco veering into Tea for Two territory, this one could work for you at a lower price point and would support an indie perfumer to boot. As for covering new territory, this one does not. Safe and cozy.
Absolutely not doing simplicity in Nahema!
But you smell gorgeous!
One could say that Nahema is simply beautiful, though! ?
Anatole Lebreton Grimoire.
Wearing Fraîche Passiflore (MPG) which I had entirely forgotten about. A shame as I enjoy it a whole lot. This is classy tropical fruit.
Busy day at work but I made it here to comment! SOTD is Pacifica Sandalwood. Bright, cheery, and perfectly low-key for a day full of meetings.
Delina by Parfums de Marly. It’s a beauty!
Oh, that postcard is “Thoreau’s Cairn.” For a minute I thought it said “Thoreau’s CABIN” and I was like, wow, he really WAS a minimalist!
I don’t know if it is still there, since they do now have a reconstruction of the cabin, but the cairn was supposed to mark the original site of the cabinet…
I’m wearing MadHat Mysore Lime today. Wishing it would warm up just a little bit, I’m still wearing sweaters in July!
yummy, lime! you smell great.
sweaters in July are my thing. lol 😀
I do love warm weather tho!
a cool evening after a warm day is heaven to me.
What a fabulous photo! SOTD: Musc Ravageur
I rescued a minute decant of Frederic Malle Musc Ravageur. It has maybeeee 2 drops remaining!
First (and only!) wear:
This is a very sweet and charming perfume at least immediately , I smell like a macaroon or a French whipped slightly sweet vanilla creme. I like it. I don’t like real sweet but this is good and already the opening is moving onto a slight smoke or spice.
A simple thunk. Staying on CP!
SotD = Terracotta Le Parfum
Terracotta with random lashings of Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat
throughout the day. Tiare flowers + citrus = refreshing summer vibe 😀
Terracotta has a fleeting citrus topnote that EdFdC matches perfectly.
I am working at home today, spent part of my lunch out in the backyard catching some sunshine.
Thank you to @hajusuuri for reminding how much I adore Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat in warm weather.
My turn for ?! BTW, a friend of mine who had never smelled Terracotta before had her eyes roll back in her head when she sniffed me wearing it over the weekend.
Today I’m lavishly coated in some of the EB Florals Regal Tuberose that
I got in a nice sample from the SA at Saks yesterday. It’s just so pretty! Who knew tuberose could seem so fresh and juicy? Very nice on this hot day. I’m at least considering a FB now.
mmmmm, love tuberose! you smell fantastic 😀
i put on Heeley Menthe Fraiche. I feel that it kind of fits the theme.
Opardu! Now to read the comments.
I wore that on Sunday. You smell beautiful!
As do you in No 19!
All the descriptions I’ve read on Opardu sound so elegant.
Rewarded myself with some vintage Diorissimo tonight!
Oh, that IS a reward!
Oh, nice!
Pressing repeat from yesterday… another lovely sunny summer day! Tomorrow is not supposed to be as nice, though. Stormy weather is in the forecast. Boo!
SOTD = Dior Poison Girl EdT again. I’m really liking it in the hot weather. Funny how that has happened.
I’ve never even sniffed Poison Girl but hlad you are enjoying it!
It’s definitely a gourmand, but it is a surprisingly smart one.
I may have to investgate PG! I love the original but not expecting Girl to be even close. What aspect do you like about it?
Well, with the current weather I am getting a bit of a suntan lotion vibe from it. Like how the old Coppetone used to smell? YMMV, of course.
Oh, that sounds good, I love old school Coppertone.
In fact I had my bottle of At The Beach 1966 out for a spin earlier on the weekend!
I think the opening is so delicious. I get a orange sherbet cream soda smell. I didn’t care to much for the edp though.
Thanks lillyjo! I may have to try the Poison offerings on Friday. Maybe get a few samples at Sephora if possible.
