Tuesday scent of the day 6/25

Posted by Robin on 25 June 2019 192 Comments

Happy Global Beatles Day! (And sad birthdays today: George Michael, Anthony Bourdain.) What fragrance are you wearing?

I am at the lake. My scent for the next few days will be Cutter Lemon Eucalyptus. Luckily I actually like the smell (and maybe a very tiny credit for the community project: it reminds me of being in graduate school in San Diego). Tea at the moment is Yunnan Golden Monkey Organic.

Reminder: 6/28 will be Time Travel Friday...wear a perfume that takes you back in time, or reminds you of something / somewhere in your past. It does not have to be a perfume you wore in the past! Suggested by chocolatemarzipan8.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: The Sgt Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band teapot seems to be out of stock most everywhere, although you can find it on eBay, and there's a blue one at Walmart for $59.99.

In the always refreshing Annick Goutal Ninfeo Mio, for a day that has started stormy, muggy, warm and very unpleasant. Summer is finally here!

Seville a l’Aube for me today. I haven’t worn it in a while, probably because it got shuffled to the back of the collection. Which is silly because its beautiful and perfect for summer. Have moved it front and center.

If I had to make a top ten favorite band list, I don’t think the Beatles would be on it. Although some of their would make it on a list of song favorites.

Centerpiece is my fav. 4160 scent of thise that I tried. You snell great! I also really like, not sure if I like, Shazam. It’s like Chergui on steriods but has a spice note that reminds me of mincemeat. Have you tried that one?

Can anyone comment as to whether the EDT or EDP is preferable? I just read a few reviews and there were many mentions about longevity issues, particularly with the EDT.

I have the EDT and don’t find it particularly short-lived, however I’m not sure you can find it anymore anyway – I think the EDP is what’s out there. Also, be aware that I prefer fragrances that don’t shout their presence and that don’t hang around all day (they start annoying me after 6 – 8 hours…) This is a gorgeous warm weather fragrance, IMO. (I also find it more green-lemon-woods than those who call it lemon cream pie.)

Memo Tiger’s Nest – my office mate walked in and said, “I smell incense and musk. It smells good, like White Shoulders.” I get neither musk nor White Shoulders from this. She said, “It smells really good.”

Personal experience of scent ranges far afield. it’s always useful to ask “What does it smell like to you?” to get more detail that , “it smells good.”

Agree about the opening – lovely but fleeting. The whole scent does not last long on me, but I generally try to think of most AA scents as body sprays or eau de cologne. And it’s a fragrance that does not require commitment – you can easily switch to something else in a couple of hours.

VC&A used to have a prominent spot at Bergdorfs right between where Killian is now and the circular counter outside of JAR. It got moved several times – once to the wall between something and Armani (by the Estée Lauder counter) and the last time I was there, it got moved to across from behind the Kilian back wall (so it’s by Ex-Nihilo and part of Diana Vreeland)

In Passage d’Enfer, because March (I think) mentioned it on Perfume Posse yesterday :) CP points because it brings me back to the beginning of perfume nutsoness some four (!) years ago, when I still lived in France; this was one of my very, very first loves. This scent defines space. I understand dimensions and open air because of it.

Spent some of the morning cleaning and I hate cleaning but have to clean my bathroom before I can say I am done with cleaning. Then it’s off to get one of my dog’s medication and drop something off at UPS. Hopefully I can get over to Malley’s Chocolates in the process. Wearing Original Musk Blend no 1 to get me through the cleaning. After my shower, I think that Nahema will do the trick since someone mentioned it yesterday.

Ugh barely got to sit down at work and there’s already drama. I work in a small department of 4 people (me included) and a manager who is leaving the company next week. The only guy in my department came up to ask me a “quick question” as I was getting up to put my lunch in the fridge. He asked if another coworker in our department was annoyed at him when they were saying goodbye last night and asked if she said anything. I’m much closer to the other coworker than I am to him and frankly he annoys the heck out of me. I told him awkwardly that I didn’t want to get in the middle and that he should really talk to her. So he says back that he doesn’t want to put me in the middle, but he was just wondering if she said anything. I said I didn’t want to try to recall a conversation and get anything wrong and reiterated that he should just talk to her. That led him to say “oh so she did say something” and seem even more annoyed at me for not telling him and basically rolled his eyes and said loudly “that’s fine.” He has had issues with his temper here before so I’m always very hesitant to get into any kind of confrontation plus I really, really hate confrontation! I tried to deflect the best I could, but now I have anxiety and am not looking forward to the work day. I’m also mad he put me in this position. There’s enough upheaval going on for us right now, that I don’t really need this.

At least I’m wearing No. 19 EDT today, which reminds me of the mid 80s when I was a small child. It makes me think of Herbal Essence shampoo and being at my grandma’s house (different grandma than I mentioned yesterday).

SOTD is Guerlain’s Samsara vintage parfum. It feels just a bit too warm today to wear this but interestingly enough, I’m getting loads of green ylang ylang instead of jasmine/creamy sandalwood.

    Tuesday!

    1) Weird and partly rainy- I think thunderstorms may be rolling through pretty soon today or tomorrow.

    2) Am in the BeautyPie fragrance Brazilian Lime, Fig Leaves and Black Tea. I tried this previously in the winter and went ahead and bought a bottle, thinking that it would be better in warmer weather. What do you know, it IS better in warmer weather. Think of a cross between JM Basil, Lime and Mandarin, Escentric 02 and Philosykos to get an approximation of the fragrance(It has a big dollop of Cashmeran but it’s zesty). It’s crisp and lovely- sparkly citrus/rose, then fig/tea all over. Very ‘green’ and office appropriate; I can see this as a very friendly unisex to use for the whole family.

Cost: It’s weird. You have to be part of the Beauty Pie buying club, which, I am not gonna lie, is a big ask. Once part of the club, the price is $20 + $9 shipping.

I will definitely be wearing this throughout the summer, along with Cap Neroli.

For the item, yes. But the whole ‘beauty club’ bit is an additional cost, and Beauty Pie assigns a retail value to the scents, which I do not dispute BUT ????

I like the products- they are gentle and effective; the color cosmetics are dead on ringers for some notable niche/department store types- but you pay to play, and pay again in buying the product. Caveat!

No perfume at the moment. Had a vet appt this am with my little furless baby. She’s been having mild wheezing/coughing, but only when she wakes up from sleeping. The vet isn’t sure, but waiting for bloodwork to rule out allergies (or infection, which he doesn’t think it is). She was also fat shamed ?? She is a little chunky so will have to see about diet habit changes, too. That really stresses me out because my other cat is on the thinner side- probably because she’s the food hog!
Not sure what I’ll put on later if anything. I may just enjoy reading about everyone’s beauties today.

Oh, I can empathize. I took one kitty to the vet last week for ongoing issues with runny poop. NOT pleasant. She may have a food allergy—to chicken! It turns out it’s a pretty common allergy in cats, but chicken is in almost all cat foods, even ones advertised under other names, unless you look for “Limited Ingredient “ labels. This morning I took another cat to the vets for terrible skin rash problems. Might also be a food allergy, but this time to fish, which I’ve been trying due to aforementioned. Sigh. Or it might be fleas. She got a steroid and antibiotic shot and the other is on low dose liquid steroids. Now I’m trying venison, lamb, and rabbit based cat foods.

Oh, geez! You have your hands full!! I switched to Blue Basics duck & potato recipe (dry) and he’s scratching less. I think he also has environmental allergies, though.
But I think the other cat gained weight on this food because it’s a little higher carb/ lower protein than our prior stuff.
I hope your kitties all straighten out!

Aw, poor kitty! I noticed high pollen counts were bothering a couple of my cats back in the spring. It seems to have eased off where I am at, though.

And I totally commiserate with the aggro of trying to feed one cat a special diet with other cat(s) lurking in the background.

One of my favorite dreams ever, which I still remember because it makes me laugh, was being a backup singer…on stage…with Kenny Loggins. Hated waking up from that one.

SOTD = Hermès Kelly Caleche Pure Parfum

This is, by far, my favorite formulation of Kelly Caleche. It is minty, powdery, irisy and non-barnyard leathery. I should wear it more often. The atomizer is so cute!

In other news, I received my bottle of Lustre and it is still pristine as I haven’t even taken a test sniff. I will unveil this weekend and also email the splitees. So far 25 of 30 mLs I am willing to split out are spoken for. If anyone else is interested in 5 mLs, please send me an email. I haven’t worked out the cost yet but it will be the list price of the 50 mL bottle (no tax, free shipping) less 20% plus $0.5 for the atomizer and exact postage from NJ to wherever you are in the U.S. I will use recycled packaging.

We have had rain off and on and it’s blessedly cool! I wore Zoologist Camel today.

Almost too late to comment. I went with Fleur de Peau today and feel very happy with my choice.

Wearing AG eau d’Hadrien tonight. My AG bottles are all vintage, so it seems like more is better with these. It’s great that I can spray away!

AofI, my tea for Tuesday. ?

Yay! for global Beatles Day. ?

I’m excited to see the movie “Yesterday.” I have a soft spot in my heart for musically themed movies.

Hope that tomorrow I can check in on NST earlier. ?

I just watched that trailer! Such a fantastic idea for a movie, hope they did it justice.

Had a lovely birthday day. Wallowed about in the pool for a while this morning, then went out to lunch with my old boss to catch up on things, still smelling slightly of chlorine and sun screen. Cats and I hunkered down in the air con for a miserably hot/humid afternoon, with me in L’iris de Fath from an incomparable NSTer. Then I switched to Coriandre for a wonderful birthday dinner with a very dear friend.

Peace and wellness to all —
