Happy Global Beatles Day! (And sad birthdays today: George Michael, Anthony Bourdain.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I am at the lake. My scent for the next few days will be Cutter Lemon Eucalyptus. Luckily I actually like the smell (and maybe a very tiny credit for the community project: it reminds me of being in graduate school in San Diego). Tea at the moment is Yunnan Golden Monkey Organic.
Reminder: 6/28 will be Time Travel Friday...wear a perfume that takes you back in time, or reminds you of something / somewhere in your past. It does not have to be a perfume you wore in the past! Suggested by chocolatemarzipan8.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: The Sgt Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band teapot seems to be out of stock most everywhere, although you can find it on eBay, and there's a blue one at Walmart for $59.99.
In the always refreshing Annick Goutal Ninfeo Mio, for a day that has started stormy, muggy, warm and very unpleasant. Summer is finally here!
I like that scent- and huzzah for a proper summer!
I also like it a lot. Perfect green summery scent!
You smell great!
Thank you! ?
We’re scent twins today! ??
Thank you, Deva! ?
Van Cleef Rose Velours from a sample
Not really a rose person, but I am swooning over this one
Tea is a simple english breakfast tea bag with cream
Trying out some drug store makeup today, Almay dark purple eyeliner.
For NYCers, did you hear that the Paris theater is closing. Its the last single screen theater in NYC
Yes, heard that about the Paris. Very sad. Didn’t realize it was only single screen left. I still miss The Ziegfeld….
On the Paris theater: That is really too bad.
That is very sad. *sigh* all my NY memories are going the way of the Dodo…
That is sad, but can’t really see how a theater like that could stay running.
Seville a l’Aube for me today. I haven’t worn it in a while, probably because it got shuffled to the back of the collection. Which is silly because its beautiful and perfect for summer. Have moved it front and center.
It’s not its. Also, I have a confession to make. I don’t like the Beatles.
If I had to make a top ten favorite band list, I don’t think the Beatles would be on it. Although some of their would make it on a list of song favorites.
there is no judgement on this blog, confess away!
I know plenty of people on here don’t care for Bob Dylan either..
Yep… I’m one of them and you can add Leonard Cohen to my list too. Nothing but love, love, love for the Beatles though!
Feu Secret for a cool, grey-ish morning here.
Grey rainy morning. I’m officially wearing SL Rahat Loukhoum, sprayed on my chest, but also testing 4160 Tuesdays Centrepiece on my arms. It has a spicy candle wax scent.
Same weather here! Rahat sounds just right. I can’t remember if I tried Centrepiece or not.
Centerpiece is my fav. 4160 scent of thise that I tried. You snell great! I also really like, not sure if I like, Shazam. It’s like Chergui on steriods but has a spice note that reminds me of mincemeat. Have you tried that one?
No, I haven’t tried Shazam yet. A friend just sent me a few 4160 samples, I’m slowly working my way through the collection.
I drove today, and since I didn’t have to worry about gassing my fellow bus passengers, I am swathed in a cloud of Chanel Cuir de Russie. Tis glorious.
I don’t usually respond to teapots, but this one made my heart seize with longing!
I would enjoy sitting next to someone wearing CdR. But, yes, not everyone is used to it.
There is a yellow submarine teapot out there too.
I’m wearing 4711 AC Lemon & Ginger. I was craving citrus today.
White Linen parfum Estee Lauder
Smellin mighty fine?
Ohhh, you smell divine. I adore the parfum.
I haven’t smelled that one in a long time. How is it?
I tried Pure White Linen, the flanker last summer at duty free..
I bought a small bottle of the current version on a whim. It’s not the same. I bet you’re wearing vintage and smelling great.
Another lemon fave for me today: Chanel Allure Edition Blanche.
Yum! I wish I owned that one.
You still can ?
Not unless they’ve started selling it in 15 ml and nobody told me!
I don’t do many blind buys, but I did with this one – after much research – and this one worked out!
I love this – masculine yet just right for a woman!
It sounds wonderful!
Can anyone comment as to whether the EDT or EDP is preferable? I just read a few reviews and there were many mentions about longevity issues, particularly with the EDT.
I have the EDT and don’t find it particularly short-lived, however I’m not sure you can find it anymore anyway – I think the EDP is what’s out there. Also, be aware that I prefer fragrances that don’t shout their presence and that don’t hang around all day (they start annoying me after 6 – 8 hours…) This is a gorgeous warm weather fragrance, IMO. (I also find it more green-lemon-woods than those who call it lemon cream pie.)
Thank ypu for the mini review. It sounds very nice for summer.
I hope you are having a nice time at the lake Robin!
It’s a gorgeous day here and I went with Mohur.
It is pouring rain so have not gotten out on the water, but having a very relaxing day anyway.
It’s raining here today too but sun is expected tomorrow.
I’m in SSS Yin&Ylang for a day in Fort Macleod. Beautifully sunny but not supposed to get beyond 70F today. My kind of weather!
We’re headed to town for necessities, then to Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump.
Have a great time in Alberta! If you want any Calgary recommendations, give me a shout at payne underscore c m at the yahoo. (Although my recommendation would be to bypass it and head straight for the mountains unless you love traffic and expensive meals.)
Yep, I going to extreme measures to avoid any cities or larger towns. I saw a bumper sticker that said: “Go Slow,” which is exactly what I’m doing. Fort MacLeod, with its 3000ish residents may be too big for me! ?
You smell fab!
Thank you, as do you in SL RL✌?
Memo Tiger’s Nest – my office mate walked in and said, “I smell incense and musk. It smells good, like White Shoulders.” I get neither musk nor White Shoulders from this. She said, “It smells really good.”
Personal experience of scent ranges far afield. it’s always useful to ask “What does it smell like to you?” to get more detail that , “it smells good.”
Interesting. I have not smelled Tigers Nest, but White Shoulders always gave me flowers and powder.
You smell wonderful. It’s all amber and insense to me. I am looking forward to wearing it soon, once the weather get cooler.
Wow, all I get is incense and amber too. It’s always interesting to hear what other people smell.
Maybe she has allergies. ?
Guerlain AA Rosa Pop – carefree and summery.
The opening of that one is really bright and fun – wish it lasted longer than 10 minutes! The rest of it is still really pretty though.
Agree about the opening – lovely but fleeting. The whole scent does not last long on me, but I generally try to think of most AA scents as body sprays or eau de cologne. And it’s a fragrance that does not require commitment – you can easily switch to something else in a couple of hours.
Have fun at the lake, Robin! I’m well acquainted with your sotd, all the rain has made for big mean gangs of mosquitoes in my backyard and they love me.
Wearing a long time summer love, Rosine Un Zest de Rose. Pretty, pretty, pretty.
The mosquitoes are fierce this year…they were hovering last night but I did not get bit, so that is good.
My sister has some sort of Cutter spray that smells just like dryer sheets, it is an abomination but I did not tell her so.
Dryer sheets supposedly can keep wasps away from you. I haven’t been able to verify this personally, though. But my brother swears by it.
I’m in Tauer Wowilla body oil, topped off with 2 small spritzes of Cap Neroli.
Robin, your Cutter comment made me think of the Herbal Armor brand bug repellent that my aunt has been bringing to our annual family camp trip since I was a kid. That smell definitely brings back some memories!
Avon skin so soft would bring back the summer memories for me. It was commonly used as mosquito repellent when I was growing up.
I used to use that!
I read something recently, somebody did a study and the Cutter beat out every other non-Deet brand they tested, including Avon and Victoria’s Secret Bombshell
Oh, you smell perfect.
The day is starting out pretty sunny, so I went with Terracotta over BBW Sun lotion. It’s funny, how mood and weather affect perfume choices. I think that’s why I can never settle on just a few favorites. I’m to moody!?
You smell like summertime too!? Mood and weather totally affect my choices too.
You smell summery wonderful!
Mood and weather TOTALLY affect perfume picks for me as well. Wearing the wrong perfume for the mood is like wearing an itchy pair of socks that you can’t take off. ?
Oh, and you smell wonderful!
The sun is back out today and I smell like summertime in California Reverie. So pretty. I’ve only tried 3 different perfumes from VCA, but so far I’m batting 3 for 3.
Oh, you smell so beautiful! I love California Reverie. Glad to hear VCA is a winning house for you!
Hey house twin..
I haven’t smelled that one.
I haven’t smelled much from this house actually
VC&A used to have a prominent spot at Bergdorfs right between where Killian is now and the circular counter outside of JAR. It got moved several times – once to the wall between something and Armani (by the Estée Lauder counter) and the last time I was there, it got moved to across from behind the Kilian back wall (so it’s by Ex-Nihilo and part of Diana Vreeland)
I love pretty much all of the VCA scents, good house for me too.
VCA is underrated to my mind.
You smell lovely. I might wear that later. I don’t think I’ve hated anything I’ve sniffed from that line. They’ve really nailed the pretty and ready-to-wear thing.
I sniffed this recently and liked it on paper, didn’t try on skin cuz had no real estate left. I did try their Vanille Orchidee – it was nice but something a little missing for me. I can’t put my nose on what exactly
In Passage d’Enfer, because March (I think) mentioned it on Perfume Posse yesterday CP points because it brings me back to the beginning of perfume nutsoness some four (!) years ago, when I still lived in France; this was one of my very, very first loves. This scent defines space. I understand dimensions and open air because of it.
That’s a gorgeous scent.
Yum! That perfume has similar associations for me – it was one of my first examples of how interesting things can get outside of Sephora.
Spent some of the morning cleaning and I hate cleaning but have to clean my bathroom before I can say I am done with cleaning. Then it’s off to get one of my dog’s medication and drop something off at UPS. Hopefully I can get over to Malley’s Chocolates in the process. Wearing Original Musk Blend no 1 to get me through the cleaning. After my shower, I think that Nahema will do the trick since someone mentioned it yesterday.
I admit to eating a few pieces of Trader Joes chocolate covered ginger, and I didn’t even do any cleaning to deserve it. So hope you get to Malley’s!
That chocolate covered ginger sounds incredibly tasty! ?
It is good, but I don’t buy it anymore because I have zero portion control with little bite sized things in tubs…unfortunately other people in my family do buy it, and leave it where I can find it!
I’m wearing Odeur 53 today. I’ve been craving it often these days, so I’m wearing it a lot. It’s a fabulous “lazy summer” perfume.
Good idea, maybe i wear this tomorrow
Ugh barely got to sit down at work and there’s already drama. I work in a small department of 4 people (me included) and a manager who is leaving the company next week. The only guy in my department came up to ask me a “quick question” as I was getting up to put my lunch in the fridge. He asked if another coworker in our department was annoyed at him when they were saying goodbye last night and asked if she said anything. I’m much closer to the other coworker than I am to him and frankly he annoys the heck out of me. I told him awkwardly that I didn’t want to get in the middle and that he should really talk to her. So he says back that he doesn’t want to put me in the middle, but he was just wondering if she said anything. I said I didn’t want to try to recall a conversation and get anything wrong and reiterated that he should just talk to her. That led him to say “oh so she did say something” and seem even more annoyed at me for not telling him and basically rolled his eyes and said loudly “that’s fine.” He has had issues with his temper here before so I’m always very hesitant to get into any kind of confrontation plus I really, really hate confrontation! I tried to deflect the best I could, but now I have anxiety and am not looking forward to the work day. I’m also mad he put me in this position. There’s enough upheaval going on for us right now, that I don’t really need this.
At least I’m wearing No. 19 EDT today, which reminds me of the mid 80s when I was a small child. It makes me think of Herbal Essence shampoo and being at my grandma’s house (different grandma than I mentioned yesterday).
Jeez that’s a long paragraph. Sorry for the dump, but no one else is at work with me yet so I had to tell you guys.
Ughhh, how annoying. Sorry you are having to go through this. You handled it perfectly, BTW. Nothing more for you to do but get your head out of it—easier said than done, I know. Maybe find a little mantra that works for you?
Thanks for your support this morning!
Good for you for refusing to get in the middle! Your response was perfect and he should have backed off the first time you declined to gossip. Any resulting weirdness is on him, not you.
(I don’t know if you read Captain Awkward but I love her line “return awkwardness to sender” which is exactly what you did!)
Thanks! I’d never heard of Captain Awkward, but I like what you prompted me to read today.
Update: he went and talked to our other coworker, the 4th in our dept and the one he’s closest to. She is much better at handling him. He came back over and apologized to me multiple times. So I guess crisis averted? Boy, the people dynamics of work are more exhausting than the work itself!
So glad he apologized. Agree with you on the people dynamics. Sorry you had to deal with that.
What a relief, agree that these situations are more tiring than work itself.
“…the people dynamics of work are more exhausting than the work itself!”
You should of said to him what I say to my toddlers “Time to put on your listening ears”
Then repeat: “You should talk to her”
Ha I love that. I will have to use it some time with an adult.
Yuck, so sorry for the work drama, it’s awful to be in the middle. I love the listening ears/you should talk to her. Keep it simple and short. People who love drama will eventually get the message (I hope).
I loved the smell of Herbal Essence, used it as a kid! But boy was it unkind to my frizzy/kinky curly hair.
So sorry for your work drama but it sounds like it’s resolved.
I am currently reading which I hope is a new series by Alexander McCall-Smith “A Detective Varg Novel: The Department of Sensitive Crimes” and the interplay between 4 co-workers and a policeman is pretty funny.
I’ve put this on my library hold list – it sounds terrific.
YUCK on your work issues! TBH, that one coworker should have gotten the clue after the first time you told him that he was putting you in the middle. Pleased to hear that it is resolved.
He is habitually oblivious to situational cues and rarely knows when to keep quiet.
No fun, but I think you handled it well. I hate that kind of stuff, and yes, it’s the people issues at work that are the hardest for sure.
SOTD is Guerlain’s Samsara vintage parfum. It feels just a bit too warm today to wear this but interestingly enough, I’m getting loads of green ylang ylang instead of jasmine/creamy sandalwood.
I just started recruiting for my office Payroll/Personnel assistant, I hope we find a good (and suitable) candidate.
I think Samsara in warm weather would be beautiful
Good luck with the recruiting!
Thanks! As it’s an entry-level position with a busy workload, I know pretty much by the time they are fully-trained and competent (around six-nine months), they will be out the door and promoted. So it’s a revolving door but it’s good for folks to be promoted and on to new challenges.
Samsara vintage parfum sounds great anytime to me! ??
In Twilly today. Yesterday was Ineke Gilded Lilly. Seems I’m in a floral mood.
I finally tried Twilly on skin over the weekend, and rather liked it. It became a skin scent on me rather quickly, though.
The sun is shining and I’m in Bronze Goddess. I’m spending the day going through old slides that I inherited from my aunt, deciding which ones to convert to digital images. I think I will also use some of them for a photo calendar that I can give out to relatives this Christmas.
You smell glorious!
I love your idea of putting them on a calendar.
1) Weird and partly rainy- I think thunderstorms may be rolling through pretty soon today or tomorrow.
2) Am in the BeautyPie fragrance Brazilian Lime, Fig Leaves and Black Tea. I tried this previously in the winter and went ahead and bought a bottle, thinking that it would be better in warmer weather. What do you know, it IS better in warmer weather. Think of a cross between JM Basil, Lime and Mandarin, Escentric 02 and Philosykos to get an approximation of the fragrance(It has a big dollop of Cashmeran but it’s zesty). It’s crisp and lovely- sparkly citrus/rose, then fig/tea all over. Very ‘green’ and office appropriate; I can see this as a very friendly unisex to use for the whole family.
Cost: It’s weird. You have to be part of the Beauty Pie buying club, which, I am not gonna lie, is a big ask. Once part of the club, the price is $20 + $9 shipping.
I will definitely be wearing this throughout the summer, along with Cap Neroli.
Hey, that does sound good!
It’s very good- surprisingly so! And you get a big lovely bottle- 3.4 ounces. There are two other scents but I liked this one the very best for summer.
Decent price then!
For the item, yes. But the whole ‘beauty club’ bit is an additional cost, and Beauty Pie assigns a retail value to the scents, which I do not dispute BUT ????
I like the products- they are gentle and effective; the color cosmetics are dead on ringers for some notable niche/department store types- but you pay to play, and pay again in buying the product. Caveat!
No perfume at the moment. Had a vet appt this am with my little furless baby. She’s been having mild wheezing/coughing, but only when she wakes up from sleeping. The vet isn’t sure, but waiting for bloodwork to rule out allergies (or infection, which he doesn’t think it is). She was also fat shamed ?? She is a little chunky so will have to see about diet habit changes, too. That really stresses me out because my other cat is on the thinner side- probably because she’s the food hog!
Not sure what I’ll put on later if anything. I may just enjoy reading about everyone’s beauties today.
I hope you get some good information from bloodwork, and I hope your sweet kitty gets some relief.
Thank you! Me too.
Poor kitty! Hope she feels better soon. And phooey on the fat shaming.
Thanks cazaubon! I think she actually feels fine. She’s her usual kooky, purry self otherwise. It’s weird I only see her wheezing after she wakes from a nap.
Well, we already knew she was a chunker, lol. But like LizzieB said, it’s hard to control a diet when there’s more than 1 cat.
Maybe she needs a CPAP? ?
Ha! I’ve thought of that because she snores. I could probably use one, too ?
The downside of multiple cats. Monitoring the eating so that one doesn’t eat everything…. But it tastes better out of someone else’s bowl!
Yup to this. The other guy has food allergies and is supremely picky. Cats and their food issues.
Argh, yes! The kitty food thief!
Sending love to your kitties!
Thank you! They send there love back ?
Oh, I can empathize. I took one kitty to the vet last week for ongoing issues with runny poop. NOT pleasant. She may have a food allergy—to chicken! It turns out it’s a pretty common allergy in cats, but chicken is in almost all cat foods, even ones advertised under other names, unless you look for “Limited Ingredient “ labels. This morning I took another cat to the vets for terrible skin rash problems. Might also be a food allergy, but this time to fish, which I’ve been trying due to aforementioned. Sigh. Or it might be fleas. She got a steroid and antibiotic shot and the other is on low dose liquid steroids. Now I’m trying venison, lamb, and rabbit based cat foods.
Oh, geez! You have your hands full!! I switched to Blue Basics duck & potato recipe (dry) and he’s scratching less. I think he also has environmental allergies, though.
But I think the other cat gained weight on this food because it’s a little higher carb/ lower protein than our prior stuff.
I hope your kitties all straighten out!
Aw, poor kitty! I noticed high pollen counts were bothering a couple of my cats back in the spring. It seems to have eased off where I am at, though.
And I totally commiserate with the aggro of trying to feed one cat a special diet with other cat(s) lurking in the background.
I’m trying to think if it started before we started to let her go outside in the yard this season.
He asked if I burn incense, which I do, but haven’t since it got hot and she’s still doing it. Though now that we’ve had all our drama today (she hisses and growls at our other other guy all day after she goes to the vet), she hasn’t wheezed all day ?
I am wearing a scent named Autumn Harvest from the Burren Perfumery in Ireland. To me it smells like what would happen if Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay and Diptyqye L’Ombre Dans L’Eau got together and had a baby. I like it a lot. I wore it last night after a shower, and then again today.
I had a decant of this in a swap and that’s a perfect description. I thought it reminded me of the Diptyque, too.
I’m wearing Box of Eels parfum, and just bought Black March with the Twisted Lily coupon they sent me. I had tried to buy it before but it always seems to be out of stock, so I’m happy I got it this time.
Congratulations on your purchase, I think we enjoy most perfumes we have had to wait for
Hurray for getting your hands (and nose) on Black March!
One of my light leathers, Diorling for a muggy but thankfully not very hot day.
Hmmmmm, that’s an interesting idea for a summer scent. I *do* have a sample of Diorling.
Twin with NovemberRose in more ways than one today. Seville à L’Aube for me today too. I like wearing this one in humidity. It’s so juicy and lush. And, I’m not a Beatles person either. My Mom liked The Beatles and was quite horrified that I, even as a little kid, preferred The Rolling Stones.
Spent last night reading and listening to Curtis Mayfield and Isaac Hayes. Blast from the past…
I put together a playlist a while back, which features some of both – my adolescence was filled with (what is now) old school R &B, and it just makes me happy. I wanted to grow up to be able to sing like Gladys Knight (and still do, frankly).
Loved her and The Pips. I always wanted to be one of the backup singers. Like The Pips with Gladys or Sharon Robinson and The Webb Sisters with Leonard Cohen.
One of my favorite dreams ever, which I still remember because it makes me laugh, was being a backup singer…on stage…with Kenny Loggins. Hated waking up from that one.
I bet I’d love your playlist…
Haha, I wanted to be a Supreme! “Stop! In the name of love…”
Love the teapot!
SOTD = Hermès Kelly Caleche Pure Parfum
This is, by far, my favorite formulation of Kelly Caleche. It is minty, powdery, irisy and non-barnyard leathery. I should wear it more often. The atomizer is so cute!
In other news, I received my bottle of Lustre and it is still pristine as I haven’t even taken a test sniff. I will unveil this weekend and also email the splitees. So far 25 of 30 mLs I am willing to split out are spoken for. If anyone else is interested in 5 mLs, please send me an email. I haven’t worked out the cost yet but it will be the list price of the 50 mL bottle (no tax, free shipping) less 20% plus $0.5 for the atomizer and exact postage from NJ to wherever you are in the U.S. I will use recycled packaging.
I’ve tried and enjoyed the Kelly Caleche EdP. That might be a good sample to bring out for summer…
Did you sample Lustre? Or will Saturday be your first sniff?
Saturday will be the first sniff from my large sample ?
Going classic with Vol de Nuit EdT today.
Eau de Merveilles Bleue, and lots of it. Its still hot, 35Celsius and we just ate salads the whole day.
You smell great! I might wear EdMB sometime this week. A big summer favorite scent for me!
Hot and humid here today, with the first mention of a potential heat wave in the weather forecast. Summer weather is here!
SOTD = AG Ninfeo Mio, from the sample stash. The boxwood was rather prominent in it today, making me wonder at one point if one of the cats had been naughty…
Twins in Ninfeo Mio!
This first heat wave sounds pretty early for me. I guess I am not ready to face it yet! After so much complaints about winter, I’d better keep myself quiet! ?
Great minds think alike! ?
Today wasn’t so bad, but mid-week into the weekend is looking sticky. Good thing the fridge has an ice maker!
It’s only 65 degrees here right now, but super humid!
Does that smell like cat pee? Some fig scents smell like cat pee to me. I had a Phylosikos candle that I couldn’t burn for that reason. Though the perfume doesn’t seem to smell like that.
Yeah, not looking forward to a heat wave! ?
Wood Sage & Sea Salt. Love this one!
Definitely a good choice for summer weather.
We have had rain off and on and it’s blessedly cool! I wore Zoologist Camel today.
Almost too late to comment. I went with Fleur de Peau today and feel very happy with my choice.
It’s a great feeling when your perfume is just the right choice.
Probably to late to say hello, but hello!?
Wearing AG eau d’Hadrien tonight. My AG bottles are all vintage, so it seems like more is better with these. It’s great that I can spray away!
Plus the old bottles were prettier
SotD = Assam of India
AofI, my tea for Tuesday. ?
Yay! for global Beatles Day. ?
I’m excited to see the movie “Yesterday.” I have a soft spot in my heart for musically themed movies.
Hope that tomorrow I can check in on NST earlier. ?
I just watched that trailer! Such a fantastic idea for a movie, hope they did it justice.
Had a lovely birthday day. Wallowed about in the pool for a while this morning, then went out to lunch with my old boss to catch up on things, still smelling slightly of chlorine and sun screen. Cats and I hunkered down in the air con for a miserably hot/humid afternoon, with me in L’iris de Fath from an incomparable NSTer. Then I switched to Coriandre for a wonderful birthday dinner with a very dear friend.
Peace and wellness to all —
Happy Birthday! So glad you had a wonderful day ??
Yay, that sounds like a perfect birthday FearsMice!
Happy Birthday! Sounds like a great day.
Happy birthday, FearsMice! I believe you should take the celebrInto the weekend and do it up right. ??
Belated Happy Birthday wishes for you, FearsMice!
