It's Monday and World Cocktail Day. RIP Peggy Lipton. (Update: and right after I posted this, I saw that Doris Day had passed away as well.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Tauer Rose Delight body oil.
Reminder: on 5/17, it's the cheap thrills special, brought back by request. Wear something that costs $50 or below, double bonus points if it costs $25 or below. No points for wearing something expensive that you bought cheaply via a sample or decant or somesuch! We're trying to find real bargains here.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is Michael Cole, Peggy Lipton and Clarence Williams III from The Mod Squad.
I’m wearing Carillon pour un ange, because it was handy. I was going to wear Silences to fit the CP, but it wouldn’t spray.
You smell gorgeous!
Wearing Hermes Kelly Caleche extrait, which is just about perfect year round.
Candle of the day: Jo Malone Green Tomato Leaf. Good gosh this is beautiful!
Oh oh! I have been SO tempted by that candle, but ended up cheaping out and buying a less-spendy tomato leaf candle instead. It’s not as good. I think you made the right choice!
Now I have to know. Which did you buy?
I know I bought it from Madewell, but I don’t see it on their website anymore…
Oh, I will have to check that candle because I do love tomato leaf.
This is really good stuff. It’s not as green as the name would imply because of the cassis, but it is REALLY nice.
It comes in one of the small votives, too, so that’s a nice way to try it if you can’t sniff it locally.
Thanks!
I am now tempted to get a votive of that candle. I was rubbing the leaves of my little tomato plants and the fragrance is delightful!
No points for me today wearing Iris 39. Even the 10 ml travel spray is more than $50.
Le Labo is not cheap, but at least they do sell a 10 ml spray.
And that is what I own. ?
But you smell really good. And Iris 39 has a good tenacity, so it’s almost like buying a twice cheaper perfume that doesn’t last.
True!
Blonde Versace
I am wearing Chanel Chanel Eau Tendre and drinking a cup of green tea.
My husband and I got in late Saturday night from our Pittsburgh trip. Thanks to all who offered site seeing suggestions. It is a lovely city !
You smell nice today! That one is so gentle and easy to wear.
For the CP: Lush Avocado Wash shower cream, Lush Avocado No-Wash body lotion and Lush Avocado Co-Wash body spray. Together the three products probably cost more than $50, but the spray alone is definitely a cheapie.
This is not my CP though. All my cheap thrills are either too well-known or hard to find.
Inspired by She-ra, I tried a number of vanilla scents yesterday and today:
Mugler A*Men Pure Wood. The strongest note is oak. I cannot smell coffee or vanilla individually, but there is definitely a warm, moderately sweet, comforting accord here. The dry-down was a letdown though – there is something unpleasant reminding me of a machine oil.
Zara Accord 2 Oriental. Are you nuts about (wal)nuts? Then you should try Accord 2 Oriental. The walnut note is not only strong but also smells natural. I was worried that this scent would be sickly sweet, but all sweet notes are done quite lightly. Quite pleasant and cheap too. Nice milky vanilla in the dry-down. (Will wear it this week for the CP points.)
Xerjoff Dolce Amalfi. Clove, tangy fruit, sugary vanilla. This one smells sharp and synthetic to me. I do not like it, even though the dry-down is smoother and better.
Profumi del Forte Marconi 3. Yummy blend of tolu, vanilla and patchouli. Reminded me of both OJ Tolu and Mugler Angel Muse. Not original but delicious.
Jovoy Remember Me. Fragrantica users chose milk, vanilla, tea and cardamom as the strongest notes, so I expected a sweet and spicy scent on the heavy side. It turned to be a bright citrus tea composition that is only lightly sweetened by milk and vanilla. The spices here are bright and fresh, too. RM has something synthetic, which I do not quite like, but the idea is interesting – a chai tea perfume with citruses, suitable for warm weather.
Armani Si Le Parfum extrait. It is one of those fruity-musky-vanilla scents. Not my favorite category, to put it mildly, but this perfume is almost wearable. I think incense gives it more depth.
This is an awesome mini review! Thank you! The Jovoy especially sounds appealing!
Thank you! Jovoy is probably the most complex scent in this bunch. Before and after that synthetic part I enjoy it. I will give it another chance.
Yay…vanilla! 🙂
Time to roll with another Monday! Just 8 more school days though, and things will slow down just a little bit….for just a little while! 🙂
Compelled to wear Chanel No 5 Eau Premiere, because I have a lot to do today, and this scent makes me feel competent!
Do it! I love Eau Premiere!
I always feel a little more sophisticated in Eau Premiere. Hope you had a good day!
SOTD is Sonoma Scent Studio’s Incense Pure layered over Mandy Aftel’s Ancient Resins body oil.
Today will be hectic at work and I need something soothing. Happy Monday everyone! 🙂
I haven’t smelled either of those, but that sounds like a wonderful combination!
Mandy’s Ancient Resins body oil is exquisite perfectly balanced amber and incense resins. It also makes a great hair oil (for my dry kinky/curly hair). Mandy’s and Tauer’s Wowilla Body Oil are my two favorites with Angel body oil being a very close third….
I luuurrve Ancient Resins! That combination sounds fantastic!
I wish I had tried that combo when I still had some Incense Pure. It sounds wonderful!
Oh! Nice.
Pacifica French Lilac. One more wear and it would be a full bottle thunk. Luckily, I have a back up bottle, so it will not be missed, especially after it was discontinued.
French Lilac is pretty and a perfect fit with this weeks’s cp.
Absolutely! So far I have not found a better lilac perfume and $22 for 30ml could not be better. I love it!
What?! I need to get a backup bottle and add a note about it in the lilacs post I’m publishing later today.
And almost forgot in all the excitement: you smell good.
Thank you! ?.
Some of the Pacifica’s perfumes started dissapeating from their website site last year, among those French Lilac and Persian Rose. Whatever left was in Amazon or even Ebay was expensive. However, to my surprise, this morning I checked their website again and I saw that only French Lilac, Persian Rose, Tahitian Gardenia and Tuscan Blood Orange are back in stock. I am not sure if it will be temporarily or permanent. I will get back ups right away, just in case.
Oh! Tahitian Gardenia!
Runs off to Pacifica website….
I have that one too! Very nice.
Better get our hands on some. You never know!
I’ve got that one lined up for this week. You smell great!
Thank you! ?
SOTD is Nirvana Bourbon, which is ~$40 now on fragrancenet for a 30ml. Sad to see this line get discontinued.
Spent the weekend on baby’s first woodworking project, making a planter box. The hard part is done, now it just needs a second coat of paint and some flowers. Very excited to get it finished!
I always wonder why seemingly successful scents are discontinued? Not enough global sales? I’ve had my eye on Nirvana French Grey and Amethyst, but I’ll see if the price drops quite a bit lower. I dusted off all my perfume bottles yesterday, and I have ENOUGH…so I can’t justify any more unless it’s a bargain! 🙂
No idea! It seemed like they were selling well! I never even got to try the last two before they pulled the plug, might just go for the tobacco one blind if it drops low enough.
I thought Peggy Lipton was the coolest as a child growing up in the 60s. (I had dark brown curly hair and wanted her long straight blond hair more than anything.) I even think she’d wear my scent of the day: Parfumerie Generale Bois Blond.
RIP to Doris Day as well. 🙁
I had the same hair and hair envy of Peggy Lipton as you did 🙂
From what I hear from friends of mine still in the film business, Ms. Lipton would have thought your curly brown hair beautiful.
RIP.
She was my idol for years. I’m sad to hear of her passing.
Sad to read about Doris Day.
I once saw Doris Day in a restaurant—and I can’t believe it but right now I am spacing on where it was–maybe 15-20 years ago? She was with a younger woman and they were laughing and talking. She was sitting facing the door so that she could see everyone who came in the restaurant. It was the maitre d who told me that she was Doris Day. Then I recognized her. I smiled and gave her a wave, and she waved back. Classy!
My only claim to fame is seeing Dyan Cannon in a restaurant in Portland, OR. I actually saw her in the women’s bathroom at the restaurant. I had just gotten my hair cut short and as she passed me on her way out, she told me she liked it!
Oh what a lazy weekend I had. The nice weather that was predicted totally flopped and I spent most of the weekend in my sweatpants. Saturday I even took a nap and it felt sooo good. Yesterday I spent most of the day lounging in front of the fireplace. Heard from both of the bigs (my college kids) unprompted, no less! And it made my day.
Today the sun is out and I’m off work til Friday. Woo hoo!
SotD is JM Wood Sage and Sea Salt.
Yay, for being off work until Friday!!!!!!
It will be a double yay if the weather stays like it is today!?
Enjoy your rest while smelling great.
Thanks Undina!
Nothing better than a couple of relaxing days to recharge!
Agreed!?
Enjoy your free time!
Thanks pl67!
Off until Friday! That sounds glorious–enjoy!
Thanks Catanosmia, I definitely will! Our unit has been short staffed lately so I’ve picked up several extra shifts in the past few weeks. A few days off is just what I need!
Oh it’s Monday again!? [sic]
My last interview for a new job is this Friday so please do keep your fingers crossed for me or send a little prayer my way if you please.
I’m quite excited about it to be honest.
SotD is Hermes Agar Ebene.
Good luck!
Fingers, toes and eye crossed for you, my dearest!
Praying while crossed for you!
Sending you buena suerte!
Fingers, toes crossed and sending out good vibes!
Good luck! If it’s something that is good for you, you’ll get it. If no, it means something even better awaits.
Good luck! You smell great.
Good luck!
Break a leg! Good vibes to ya!
Very best of luck to you!
Good luck! You are in my prayers!
?for you!
All fingers and toes crossed for you, Lucasai! ?
Well done for getting to the last interview! That has to be a positive sign and do hope it goes smashingly for you.
Wishing you the best of luck!
Sending you good vibes!
It’s cold and rainy (again) so I’m layering comfort scents: Sandalwood-Citrus Zum Mist (can be had for less than $15!) and Byredo Gypsy Water.
Robin, you’ve inspired me to pull out my Tauer Amber Flush oil for the CP this week.
I’m a fan of Zum. They make nice soaps too! You smell great!
Thanks! Zum soaps are my favorite
Oh no, that was our weather yesterday☹️ It’s beautiful today though, hopefully it is headed your way!
Sampling JHAG Vanilla Vibes and Byredo Sundazed and I will not need more of either. ?
VV is aquatic and musky with not enough vanilla ? …I’m generally not a fan of aquatic to be fair. Sundazed has an opening screech reminiscent of fabric softener to my nose.
Also I loved Peggy Lipton in Twin Peaks and hated last night’s GOT.
I often get fabric softener from Byredo scents, unfortunately.
Well, your wallet is safe from these two.
Yeah I thought maybe fabric softener was harsh but several hours later now and the Byredo never really improved.
Hah! (Nods sagely…) I got a sample of JHAG’s Vanilla Vibes from Luckyscent and thought about asking if you wanted it. But yesterday I tried it myself and to my nose it was all Little Tree car air freshener–didn’t think you would like it!
Yes, I can see dangling air freshener for this one. 😉
So glad to read this as I was planning to order samples of both tonight. I can wait. 🙂
Money saved 🙂 …both are letdowns imho.
I must admit, I loved Mod Squad growing up. I totally wanted Peggy Lipton’s straight blonde hair!
Ha – see my post above. You were not alone.
lol.. me too!
Philosykos (not part of the community project for sure)
By now I was expecting to break out Songes and be in sandals, but this weather..I am in sweater and a light down jacket.
SipOTD is a cafe latte and listening to the weeknd
Ciao for now..
I know! Overcast and 50F/10C here, terrible spring weather.
The heat went back on in my apt.
I can’t even…
House twin with Robin 🙂
A tiiiiny dab from the cutest LDDM mini (I wonder if this gets me any points 🙂 ) hoping not to gas fellow air-travelers. Business, not pleasure.
Have a sane week everyone.
Wow, traveling again?
Yep 🙁 And not enjoying it whatsoever.
Have a good trip sweetie! Hope you’re travelling light?
“Traveling” and “light” never applies to me 😉 Though this time I don’t have 3 perfume choices per day. At least I think I don’t…
Wearing Chergui today in the wet, chilly late October weather we’re experiencing this May. But the cat and I have enjoyed watching robins build a nest in the maple tree this morning 🙂
It definitely feels like October!
That sounds like a lovely morning 🙂
That’s so ironic, as we sat in front of the fireplace yesterday, my husband and I both decided that the weather was more like late October than May. Hope it will be better tomorrow! You smell great in spite of the weather!
So Olympic Orchids sells all fragrances in 8ml and 15ml sizes. This is well below the $50 benchmark. I have been obsessively wearing Hamsa and Woodcut because I just got them and they are both terrific. I must confess I blind bought many of the fragrances from 100 Fragrances Every Perfumista should try and when I started this journey most of them were inexpensive. I kept and wear most of these still. Including all the Caron masculines. I own not one Caron feminine but have put lots of mileage on Pour Un Homme, Yatagan and L’ Anarchiste.
I think the Caron masculines have fared better than the feminines over the years — the feminines possibly had more IFRA-restricted ingredients? Just guessing, but even when I started in the early 2000s, there were still lots of fantastic scents on the feminine side.
R.I.P. Peggy Lipton and Doris Day
SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP
Perfect for any weather and very appropriate for facing Monday. I may do a tiffanie and assign a line / perfume for each day of the week.
In Smelly News – coming up the elevator this morning: What the H.E.double-L kind of person would knowingly wear a perfume or use a lotion that smells like grape juice, burnt caramel and lipstick? It was so vile I almost hurled. This is just as bad as the time a Coach SA used a lotion that smelled like dead fish (and you know I nicely told her what it smelled like).
I have a few candidates for cheap thrills!
Oh no! Just crushed about Doris Day! ?
Yuck- poor u!
My optometrist had on a bland but inoffensive fruity floral, on Friday, I never seem to smell anything much on other people, other then bland men’s colognes, but I don’t live in London (my nearest city/home town) where people experiment more. The worst smells here are manure and other grim smelling stuff on local fields, that’s pretty bad, but luckily I haven’t met anyone who feels the need to smell like it!
Do you even wear any other perfumes? 🙂 I don’t manage to read NST every day, but it feels like whenever I do, you’re wearing No 19! (Not that I don’t think it’s perfect)
Wearing Memoize London Superbia, which is creating the opposite of a cheap thrill: expensive perfume desire! It’s one of few rose-forward perfumes that doesn’t go flat on me and feels like a cross between Portrait of a Lady and Keiko Mecheri’s Attar de Roses. Sending vibes into the universe to suggest they release a travel spray.
I will try for cheap thrills tomorrow, but I may end up in this again.
That sounds lovely, I adore Portrait of a Lady.
I haven’t even heard about this brand before! I looked them up, and I agree: they need a travel option.
I got a sample of this in my Olfactif box this month. Haven’t tested on skin yet. On paper I was detecting something that I’m not sure works on me, but I’ll try and see.
I saw that Bear is wearing Versace Blonde today, so I thought I’d drag out the box with the only Versace I own – V’E Extrait Calamaio. It totally counts toward the CP, despite the fact that I looked it up on eBay this morning, and there is a bottle listed for $1,400 (I think that either might be a money laundering scheme, or the seller is delirious). Several years ago, I bought two of these at an online discounter, for 15 bucks apiece. I later sent one off to a perfumista friend who loves the bottles just as much as the juice (the perfume is in a cool, small glass ink bottle encased in an even cooler, large lucite cube), and I kept one for myself. It’s a pretty white floral, a little retro (as in big eighties), with some green notes. Has a classical feel to it. Totally worth the 15 bucks. $1,400 – not so much.
Ha!
If you want to fund your retirement…
Cuir de Lancome for a cold, rainy Monday.
Hoping your weather will improve, you smell so elegant.
Thank you Aurora!
You smell perfect!
Thanks!
It rained here all day long yesterday. Today is just cold and overcast so maybe you have that to look forward to?
At least you smell lovely!
Same here about yesterday and today. It’s heavier rain now ? I’d take grey with no rain over this, for sure!
Nice choice for a rainy Monday!
It’s pretty cozy!
Peggy was the epitome of cool, and Doris Day probably the antithesis, but I loved them both anyway.
Been swamped with work and stuff so haven’t been doing much perfume-wise; wearing just a dab of Cuir Mauresque today, which — given the weather trends — I may be able to continue to do right on through July…
Hope everyone is feeling well and in good spirits!
I never thought of it that way — I guess it’s true. Lauren Bacall was the epitome of cool for Doris Day’s time, maybe.
Mod Squad brings back memories! So sad about both Lipton and Day.
I’ve been so busy that I haven’t even worn perfume for several days. Completely out of the NST loop, but I know all of you are wafting through the world making it a better place!
I’m OBSESSED with road trip planning! Nonstop, nose pressed to google maps on my laptop…
Finally, today I broke loose and am wearing SHL 777 Taklamakan because I got so depressed thinking I HAVE TO RETURN to Florida the end of this year! Trying not to think about it! Deep breath of Taklamakan in, deep breath of Taklamakan out…
But there’s an Alaskan Adventure some time before then, isn’t there?
Oh yeah, that’s why I’ve been obsessively road trip planning! Completely taken over my life at this point, but realizing I’m just not going to have enough time to see everything.
After that, I *have to* return to the land of gators, sweltering heat, and palmetto bugs the size of a Cessna. Trying not to think about THAT road trip….?
I once spent a summer in Fayetteville, Arkansas (it was a former life, and I was a geology student doing field work), and I was – and still am – amazed at the Jurassic Park quality of the critters south of the Mason-Dixon line. Florida must seem like a different planet. No offense to you Floridians, but those bugs are just unreal.
You’re a planner and that’s what will make your adventure how you want it. Of course it will be complex but you are resilient! As to heading southeast again, bisnit to settle things or do you have to stay out for an extended period?
Yes, definitely need to settle stuff. I meant to return after the first year, but time (and distance) just got away from me. I’m hoping to be there for a very short time. ??
Chanel Beige. Pretty pretty!
AnniePerfumes, you asked last week what i think. This was my wedding day perfume, so safe to say i love it. I have the EdT.
I am a big fan of honeyed flowers (see Hermes Jour d’Absolou). Beige is nice throughout the year, i like it’s honeyed iciness in the winter and its warm floral honey in the summer.
I like Beige too. I wish that I had gone for the EDT while it was still available.
I like Beige EdT (and haven’t tried EdP, so I don’t know if I should be sad I have only a decant and a mini of EdT.
You smell good!
Dzonka today, for a yoga with Adrienne practice this morning, and catching up on studying.
Tucking into a piece of homemade carrot cake with a cup of earl grey.
Many thanks to everyone who wished me luck for my counselling placement interview last week, I got a place, and start the induction training on Saturday!
Congratulations on getting a place. Homemade carrot cake sounds delicious.
Congratulations!
Hooray, congrats!
Great news!
Oh, good for you!
Congrats!
Congratulations, mayfly!
Lovely, good for you!
Thanks everyone, I’m really excited!
Very true!
Oops!
Hi friends, wearing Acqua Colonia Lavender and Thyme today from a sample sent by a kind NSTer. I smell very pleasant! I could do with a bigger decant, but I rarely want FBs of these kinds of lovely summer scents.
In any case, I might have to stop buying more perfume FOREVER. I appear to have GIVEN MY CAT ASTHMA. Well, actually, it sounds like the stress of losing her brother may have triggered the asthma in Mischief, but it also appears that scented candles and perfume can aggravate it. We’ve…gotten a kitty inhaler (yep), but we haven’t used it yet. Anyway, right now I am avoiding any sprayed perfume, and am sticking to rollerballs/dabbers.
In other news, I have an engagement ring!!! Big shout-out to MissGoldsmith, who had a ton of amazing advice on how to pick metals, stones, cuts, etc. I ended up going with something pretty unusual for an engagement ring, that holds personal significance for us, both because of the shape and the provenance of the ring.
You’re a real animal lover to give up perfume. You will be able to spray on your way to work I imagine.
Do give more details about the ring, how exciting.
I was indeed thinking of bringing over a bunch of my decants to work and spraying here 🙂
Here’s an image of the ring: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/88/00/53/880053cde773857f18315286226fed62.jpg It’s made by an Italian artist named Annamaria Cammilli, of rose gold and diamonds. We think it looks kind of like a calla lily, and calla lilies are special flowers in our relationship 🙂 We also first met the ring on a Valentine’s weekend trip down to Monterey, at a little gallery we love walking through where everything is way too pricey for regular (ie, non-engagement-ring) purchases. It’ll be another month until it’s on my hand, because it’ll have to be made to size and then shipped out from Italy >.> But I can’t wait to get it on my finger in mid-June!
What a lovely an unusual ring!!
Thank you, Regina <3 I love it!
It looks exactly like a calla lily, gorgeous and so significant for you, you must feel so special wearing it.
Thanks, Aurora <3 It does make me feel special! I can't wait for it to come back in the correct size!
Beautiful ring! And very unique.
Sorry about the kitty’s asthma ? I hope it’s just a passing thing for her.
And I’ve been putting in/taking out that Lavender & Thyme from my Amazon cart for over a month! I can’t decide since the reviews seem kind of mixed, but it’s pretty inexpensive.
I also hope it’s a passing thing! I don’t know how I’ll be able to tell except by making her sick again though 🙁
L&T is quite lovely actually. This morning, it seemed like straight-up lavender. It disappeared about two hours later, but luckily I had brought my sample with me. Upon reapplication, the sharp spiciness of the thyme shone out very nicely, but it also had more fullness. It was more…toothsome! Nicely gourmand. I re-reapplied in the afternoon and the lavender came out again, this time pretty sweet, to measure up against the gourmandness of the thyme. So if it’s cheap enough and you like lavender and thyme, then I say go for it. I think you can live without it, but I think there’s a good chance you’d enjoy it. In my ideal world, I would have a 10 mL spray of the stuff, for which I would like to have paid about $10.
Very nice ring!
And also meant to say I hope the inhaler is effective !
Thank you for both comments!
Your chosen ring is GORGEOUS and unusual. Also that center stone is very well protected! Well done!
It makes me so happy to get your approval on the ring <3 thanks for talking me through everything!
I love the ring you chose! So unique among engagement rings and meaningful to you guys.
Thank you, TRF! 🙂
Beautiful ring koyel, congratulations!
That is one beautiful ring! Congrats.
I never used room sprays or scented candles when I had a dog with respiratory problems. Using rollerballs or spraying on the way to work sounds like a good solution.
The ring is beautiful! Wear it in good health.
Thank you, cazaubon <3
Sorry for your pup 🙁 I'm a little relieved I'm not the first person to have this problem!
I once had a kitty with asthma (and inhaler with the little kitty-face attachment on the spacer). We went fragrance-free in the house (no candles/incense/sprays) for the rest of his days and that helped. It was worth it since he was so dear to me. I hope your kitty is well and the inhaler helps!
Yes! That’s what we got! Isn’t it silly?? We haven’t used it yet and I don’t look forward to that struggle.
Ahhh fragrance free for the rest of his days. The things we do for our fuzzbabies.
That’s a very beautiful ring. 🙂 I’m glad Miss Goldsmith was able to be such a great help. 🙂
Have a good week! 🙂
Thank you, neyronrose! You too!
In a drugstore golden oldie, Revlon Intimate ‘cherished as one of the world’s seven great fragrances’ according to the label, what the other six were remains unstated. I paid £5.85 for a full at least 100ml bottle. It is a stellar chypre full of oakmoss and animalic goodness and does indeed recall Miss Dior, both keep their scent practically intact. It looks as if it is from the fifties. I also have a teardrop bottle which is more recent.
I really want to know what the other 6 are now
I’m with you, it’s such a tease.
SotD = Chanel No. 5 + Tauer Wowilla body oil
Prompted by Robin’s Tauer choice, I’m loving how Wowilla melds nicely with skin, great with No. 5 too! 😀
I’m not a drinker by choice but World Cocktail Day sounds like a fantastic reason to indulge. I just bought a mint plant at Trader Joe’s. I love mint muddled in a glass with lime juice, then I add ice cubes and Bundaberg ginger beer. I’ve been told that a clear rum like Malibu coconut is a good addition. 😉
Have a happy Monday friends!
The Wowilla body oil smells like toasted marshmallows- wonderful!
I am totally going to try that combo!
Late to this!
Monday!
1) I knew Peggy Lipton from reruns of ‘Twin Peaks” and from industry. Really warm, nice lady! And Doris Day is from my parent’s time- a major Star, with a capital S! I have seen her movies and even remember that we had a couple of her albums growing up.
2) The weather cooled down considerable, so I am in Fresh Cream Soft Suede. Cosy white musk scent that is perfect for the office. It’s $38 on the QVC website or $45 at Ulta!
3) Game of Thrones: Chekov’s gun applies here, and I have NO IDEA why people were so upset!
I just started watching Twin Peaks. I know, very late to that party but…I’m giving it a go anyway.
I still remember how thrilled I was to see her in the first Twin Peaks run!
Oh yes! Somehow she lit up and centered the screen!
I’m wearing one of my most favorite perfumes, Lolita Lempicka. It fits the CP because it’s so inexpensive, some places it’s 100mls for $44. Annick Menardo is a genius.
It has been so warm here I’ve taken a chance and planted tomatoes and peppers yesterday. This morning I went out and it appears a squirrel, in a frenzy at seeing new dirt in the yard, had gone on a digging spree. He didn’t harm any of the plants, but I’m afraid the cilantro and basil seeds are scattered all around. I may have to re-seed those.
I had a similar problem with the planters at the end of my walkway one year. It had turned out particularly lovely that year so I was heartbroken to find my plants strewn on the ground the next morning. I replanted them and it happened again. At that point, I was mad. Apparently, mothballs are a good deterrent. Maybe you can put some in the area of you seedlings using a container or old dishes. Whatever as long as it doesn’t seep into the soil around your plants. Once I added mothballs to my planter, it didn’t happen again.
What an excellent idea, I’ll do it this afternoon. Mothballs should also deter the dog–last year I went out to the backyard to find him napping in the strawberry bed. He has the entire backyard to sleep in, but chose the four square feet I didn’t want him in!
Ah, that cool just turned soil. It’s maddening for us and so tempting for pets on warm days. Good luck!
I wouldn’t recommend mothballs. They are toxic to pets and the environment. You might want to do a little research about them first.
Good choice today with LL!
Monday [+ grouchy face].
SOTD: Narciso edp
Hope it becomes a smiley face soon
This is why I think we need a signature scent for Mondays: what makes you happy and helps you power through the day
I’m taking that approach more in my life.
For example, by Thurs. I’m exhausted and so I treat myself to an everything bagel with cream cheese which I look forward to and it “powers me through the day”.
I also treat myself once a month to Sugarfina which is another small cheap thrill but it gives me a little happiness kick 😉
Re: fragrance, I only wear what makes me happy these days 🙂
Gray and cold here, hanging out at home as I’m not feeling 100%. Micallef Rouge No. 2 is cheering me up, as well as my sweet puppy girl Mila. She is keeping me company in bed while I read.
I’m sorry that you’re not feeling well but glad you have cheerful company.
Thank you, she is the best companion. 🙂
OMG. My neighbor used to have a giant, wonderful, very old dog that I fell completely in love with, but she passed away soon after I met her. Soon afterwards, my neighbor got a pretty cute teeny dog. I had loved her predecessor so much that I cannot for the life of me remember the name of this teeny dog, but my neighbor has said it at LEAST two dozen times in the past 1.5 years or so since I first met the new, little dog, so I can’t possibly ask her. Thank you for reminding me that the teeny dog’s name is MILA! Now, if I need to remember what her name is, I’ll just ask you what your dog’s name is.
LOL! Glad to be of service. 🙂
Feel better soon, Cazaubon!
Thank you, hopefully it will pass quickly. I’m feeling better than yesterday already.
Sorry you’re feeling poorly. I hope you recover quickly!
My cheap thrill du jour is Speziali Fiorentini’s Te Nero, which reminds me of Bulgari Black. I can’t say it’s the cheap thrill version, though, because I think Black can be had for even cheaper!
That is a good one!
My cheap thrill of the day is Library of Flowers Linden. It can be had for just $42 for a 50ml bottle, but I got it for $16.95 on Hautelook! Notes listed are linden blossom, narcissus, and clover honey. It’s a pretty, clean-skewing linden with a little green. I also have the soap, but I haven’t started using it yet. A bonus is the adorable packaging. It comes in a bright, floral print paper box nestled inside a wooden box.
The Library of Flowers packaging is really charming. Good bargain you got there too!
I totally forgot about Hautelook! That sounds really lovely.
My cheap thrill today is not so thrilling–Demeter’s Yuzu Marmalade. It smells a bit like the orange flavored Life Savers hard candy you used to get in rolls (or maybe they are still sold?)… More disappointing still because I applied it over my newly acquired Mother’s Day gifts–Diptyque’s Voile Satin, and Frederic Malle’s iris hand butter. Ah well, the banal and sublime!
Nice m-day gifts!
Ooh, nice gifts! I love real lemon marmalade, not so much Demeter.
Ooooh nice gifts. Enjoy!
I really want to smell this one because I’m currently obsessed with Yuzu marmalade (the edible one). Your comment slightly pacified my lemmings but still… 🙂
You’re near me, right? I’ll email you. I’d be delighted to pass this along!!!
Another cold and grey day and a sore throat to boot. This all means that I haven’t spritzed my Mother’s Day gift – Gucci Bloom, finally acquired! I am going to wait until I feel better or the weather looks up.
Hope you feel better soon!
You too cazaubon!
Yay! You got it. Hope you feel better soon and can wear your new frag. Nothing like that first spray out of the bottle!!
That first spray is indeed special! I got the 30 ml which is also super cute
I really like that scent. It’s very pretty. Congrats!
Hope the soar throat will mend quickly and enjoy your mother’s day present, it is such a pretty scent.
I’m in Chanel Le Eaux Paris- Deauville today. I took the plunge at Nordie’s last week and am really enjoying it. (Also, just fyi: Costco currently has 100 ml bottles of Prada’s Infusion d’ Iris for $72 + tax. Free shipping. Might be members only, but you’re bound to find a member amongst your fam & friends. “Limited quantities”, or so they say. I might get a BUB, I’m enjoying it that much!)
Congrats on your new bottle!
Thanks, Robin!
Annick Goutal Grand Amour today. Trying to work through my top spring perfumes. I’m interested in the Fragrantica reviews of this one – “gothic”, “Wuthering Heights”, “melancholy” – I don’t really get any of that.
I’m rarely on the same page as the fragrantica reviews when it comes to how I think a perfume smells.
I’m not lined up with the CP or the weather, but still smell great in Ambre Loup.
Put on L’Artisan Tea for Two this morning from a sample from an NST person. (Thank you!) I liked that. I think Assam of India is still my favorite for tea scents, or at least black tea sorts of scents.
I’ll try Elizabeth Arden Green Tea sometime this week as something in the cheap thrill category. There are a number of fruit and floral flankers for the Green Tea, so I may see if I can find a store where I can sniff those.
Early this evening, I tried 7 Virtues Vanilla Woods. It was not for me. Now I’m trying Demeter Chocolate Chip Cookie. I’m getting a chocolate-y sort of smell, non-offensive to me. I only put a bit on. At around $12 for an ounce from FragranceX, that’s a cheap thrill. There were a number of four-ounce bottles of various Demeter fragrances for around $18-$20, but I didn’t want to do a blind buy of four ounces of anything right then, as I noted in a comment on an earlier post.
I have some cheap thrills lined up this week. Today though, I was feeling a little stressed due to the school bus driver. I wore Black Orchid in silent yet smelly (in a good way) protest.
Wearing some Oscar de la Renta tonight; a current version. Definitely CP compliant as I believe it was less than $20. But sadly it doesn’t remind me too much of the vintage.
Very sorry to read about Peggy Lipton; I watched Mod Squad as a young kid and thought she was just the coolest, she made a big impression on me!
I think the current Oscar is very pretty. I agree though, that it is not the same as the original. Going from memory only.
Oscar de la Renta has been the only perfume that got compliments from my husband. I don’t reach for it as before, but it is indeed a very pretty perfume.
No cheap thrills today: spent the day in Tauerville Rose Flash. Love it. I don’t even think of myself as a rose person, but this and Tauer Une Rose Chypree were both instant loves. Don’t think I need FB of both. We shall see. Must thunk samples first—is what I’m telling myself, anyway!
Zoologist discovery set came in! Nightingale on left weist, Macaque on right.
You smell wonderful in Rose Flash!
