Happy Tuesday! It's also International Jazz Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Byredo Flowerhead. I had not worn it in ages and forgot how pretty it is.
Reminder: on 5/3, wear lily of the valley for May Day (which is really on Wednesday).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Tom Dixon Bump Teapot ("Bump is a family of minimalist, borosilicate vessels designed to serve as the ritualistic instruments of every day drinking and hosting. Delicately handmade with subtle levels of pink and grey tonal translucency. Even the strainer is made of glass.") is $200 at Coming Soon.
Cuir Beluga Guerlain
You smell sooooo good!
It snowed here last night! Gah! I’m wearing Dark Passage, of which I wish there was more. (Anyone know of a close-ish dupe for this chocolate patchouli iris?)
Gah! Is right! Sorry.☹️Hope it melts fast.
Ohhh Dark Passage is gorgeous stuff. It is one of the most unusual scents I own (and very goth)…. I need to dig out my bottle and wear it again sometime.
Dark Passage sounds like wonderful stuff, is it discontinued? Please Let me know if u do find something similar!
It was limited edition 🙁
I mossed the boat on Dark Passage, if you ever find a dupe please share!
I wish they would add Dark Passage to the regular Tauer line. I can’t think of anything close enough to it to bother. There are aspects of it in the Mugler Taste of Chocolate flanker that is likewise discontinued, and there are lots of other iris/patch things that lack the chocolate part.
Ugh, me too!
Never tried Dark Passage but Auphorie Iris Macchiato sounds pretty fantastic!
IMHO, they are quite different bit both are good.
My brother had snow yesterday, too. He was not a happy camper!
I managed to acquire 3 more besides my own Kickstarter item.
Parfums DelRae Début to start my Lily of the Valley week.
Tea is Montagne d’Or (MF).
I quite like that teapot, hugely impractical though, glass teapots only look nice for a day or two, or you have to seriously clean them all the time. It is very pretty!
YUM, you smell great!
I would break that teapot before it needed washing anyway 😉
Now that is another great point!
I’m totally smitten with this teapot:
https://www.7etasse.com/fr/produit=theiere-tokoname-0.7-bleu-ciel&id=thir6c8a83
That is lovely — prettier than my Dew teapot, although it was probably cheaper:
https://nstperfume.com/2017/03/21/tuesday-scent-of-the-day-321/
I just checked it’s about three times the price. Extraordinarily pretty though. I will get one at some point. 😉
Yeah, that price difference sounds about like I’d expect!
VCA Bois d’Iris
Tea is Stash Chai Spice
Pandora 80’s New Wave Radio Voices Carry ‘Til Tuesday✌️?
Oooo, saw Til Tuesday at a small outdoor concert on a beautiful summer night in the 80s on Cape Cod. Just perfect!
That sounds like the perfect summer concert! And on Cape Cod no less.
It really was : ) and it was during a week’s vacation spent there with a young man with whom I was in love. le sigh…. Good thing I’ve got the memory ( a miracle given the haze of the 80s) because it’s all long gone now, LOL.
I’m right there with ya on the hazy memories!
Summer, love, the 80’s…that does sound just perfect!
: )
Cool fumes
Cool tunes
????
Thanks lillyjo!??
You smell great.
Thanks Aurora!
Oh, how I adore Aimee Mann ❤
She has a great voice. Do you ever listen to The Both?
I have- I actually saw them live. I have to say I didn’t enjoy that duo as much as I enjoy her solo.
One of my fav scents- you smell perfect.
Thank you! It is quickly becoming one of mine too! I’ll see if I still feel like that when my decant is gone. It ranks right up there with EdM and Eau Premiere as very wearable, and perfect for any time or occasion.
Un Jardin Sur Le Nil, perfect for spring showers. I left for work without a jacket today, even though it’s supposed to rain later. It was warm enough and I needed a milestone!
Yay for milestones, plus you smell great Dorsey.
I haven’t worn it yet this year, you inspire me to pull UJslN out of the closet.
You’ll be glad you did! 😀
You smell great.
Good morning Friendly Fragrant Folks….
Wearing Hermes Eau des Merveilles EdT. I’M IN LOVE. Where has this fragrance been all my life? I’m definitely going to be exploring the EdV Bleue, L’Ambre, Claire des Merveilles, and so on and so on and so on! Sample list growing by the minute…..
I had to strip pack a bunch of tablets today (pharmacy chores!) and the machine gets pretty dadgum hot when it’s running. The heat blowing on me really made this fragrance gorgeous, I have to say! 🙂
Oh you smell marvelous! And that is worth a full bottle!
Love EDM! Have fun with the flankers… I’m thinking of springing for a bottle of the Bleue for the summer.
What, are you just trying it now?
Hard to believe…..but there are THOUSANDS of things I haven’t tried I guess! LOL Every now and then I hit one that is instant love….
It was an instant love for me too! Do try the others as well!
True for me too, so don’t know why I was surprised!!
It sounds like such a chore, glad your perfume helped.
I f you happen to decide to buy a FB, just know that the 100 mL bottle is beeg.
Good Morning!
Beautiful day here in Fla.
I am wearing Delina by Parfums De Marly.
They just came out with a new fragrance Cassili and I love that as well.
Both have great lasting power and I get complimented all the time.
Lauriej – isn’t it always a beautiful day in Florida? I’ve got family in Sarasota (Gulf coast), where are you located??
California Reverie today over TBS Moringa body butter for an extra jasmine boost.
Oh wow! You smell great!
Why thank you! I always forget I have the Moringa and it’s so good, though maybe on the verge of going off. I couldn’t quite tell…
Just so you know, I’m going to copy your sotd.?
Happy to have company scent sista ? You, too, will smell fab!
House twin! Maybe I’ll wear that one tomorrow!?
I think that’s a great idea!
Lovely, I bet it’s a nice combo.
It was nice while it lasted, which seemed like not very long.
I have that Moringa body butter too and don’t use it as often as I should. My introduction to the scent was the shower gel, which I loved and should really get again sometime.
I tend to neglect my body products. Too many steps, lol. I found it while digging under my sink last night and the green tea one I found also was totally rancid-smelling and hardly used ?
I enjoy using scented body butters on my shins, which seem to get dry year round now. It’s a fun way to sneak fragrance under the radar most of the time… some lotions and body butters are so scented that there is no hiding or disguising them!
True, some are as scented as perfumes. The scent of this one is strong at first, but doesn’t last very long.
Despite predictions of snow flurries or rain this morning, we are having sun and 50F/10C! Celebrating with Amouage Beloved.
Now that is something to celebrate!
It’s cute that that’s good weather for you 😉 Have you ever considered delaying your migration north by a month?
I could, but then I would have to stay through November, which is when the snow starts and it’s dark and cold. I need to be here for 6 months + 1 day to keep my health insurance and the problem is there aren’t 6 good months in Canada.
Hey that’s a nice spring day for where I live! Glad to see some other folks are getting good weather, too.
Happy Tuesday!
1) I have A Love Supreme on the system.
2) Am still buzzing from GoT and Avengers: Endgame this weekend- too much epic awesome in one weekend!
3) I planted 150 Gladiolus and Irises this weekend. WHAT. This summer I will a formidable cut flower garden! *crosses fingers*
4) Am in Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere because it was chilly this morning. Will top up with Red Roses later as it warms up.
Wow, that’s a lot of gardening! I bet your yard will look lovely come summer. 🙂
I hope so! I bought all those bulbs on sale and I just went NUTS! Combined with the other perennials this should be a bit crazy!
We’re already trying to figure out when we’re gonna see Avengers again! So much to take in….need a 2nd and maybe 3rd visit! 🙂
Oh it is a definite repeat viewing in the theaters!
We finally just saw Captain Marvel yesterday, so we are prepped for Endgame! Woohoo! Although I feel like we need to watch all 22 or whatever movies again to remind ourselves of all the details. (Wait, who has the Tesseract? Why are some Kree blue?)
Spoiler hint- You don’t need to see *all* 22, but seeing the previous 3 Avengers films would be cool!
That I can do! (By “previous three,” I hope you mean last three released, because heaven help me if I need to figure out the chronology.)
Yes, that is exactly what I meant- The AVENGERS(huge wink) and NOT the MCU.
Woo hoo GoT! Am seeing Endgame this weekend- my son is hardcore ignoring me until I do. He’s afraid he will accidentally start talking to me about it!
Hope to see a pic of your garden sometime.
It’s LONG, but deeply and utterly emotionally satisfying. And I need to start documenting on Instagram!
Yes you do, sweets!
Volutes edt for an overcast morning, which has turned into a bright and warm spring day.
Yum, I should wear that this week.
I agree with Robin-yum!
Hi all – SOTD is Halston Couture by Halston. As a friend described it: “old school masculine with daring 60’s free spirited woman in a beautifully composed chypre.”
Have a great Tuesday all!
That’s a great description!
It’s from a Facebook perfume group I belong to.
Those Halston fragrances had some of the coolest bottles way back when.
Wore Cuir de Russie edt as a bedtime perfume and I forgot how glorious it was. I hadn’t worn it in ages. I am wearing PHI Rose de Kandahar again today. PHI is tied with Coromandel for my birthday present come September. I still can’t wait until the Sephora sale even though I will only get 10% off.
I read your posts Dawn and enjoyed them tremendously!
Twins!!
I might try a thing this week where I wear my perfumes that purport to have LOTV even though I can’t smell it? Today’s choice is vintage Diorama which I definitely don’t think smells GOOD, and is enough of a mishmosh that I can’t pick out any one note… it does make me have feelings though? Perfumes that make you have feelings are so interesting, they’re always so hard to pinpoint or put in words, it’s like they’re tied to that one scent in a way you can’t describe or explain.
What kinds of feelings? Positive? Negative? Overwhelming?
vaguely melancholy?
I find Diorama (I have the modern one) with its caraway challenging but rewarding. Hope the feelings you experience are positive.
Time to re-sniff my Diorama sample. I get some white flowers from it, but nothing I can ID as Lily of the Valley.
I had a lot to do before work tonight, but took a nap instead. Oops! It’s cold and rainy again, so copying Elisa P with California Reverie. I don’t have the moringa body butter but now I want to.
You smell lovely.
Thank you!
Dude I want a nap so bad right now….I don’t know what is up with my energy level but I am dragging!
Hope you get a nap soon!
Twinsies? The Moringa is really nice and now I want the EDT, too.
Hope work is bearable tonight!
Sounds like that nap was more important than those other things, IMO. But, yeah, it’s tough when your body says “Alright, I’m taking over now!” when there’s a list of stuff to be dealt with.
L’Artisan Au Bord de L’eau
Still need to try that one. And the new banana.
SOTD is Tom Ford’s Café Rose.
Love that one. You smell super good.
The weather is just right, started cool and became gradually sunny and warmer, and I am in Gianfranco Ferre Ferre, the 2005 one which is irissy (the names are very confusing). It is by Pierre Bourdon who made FM Iris Poudre and when I read this on Bois de Jasmin I looked for Ferre which was so affordable and a firm favorite.
Now I have to look this up!
🙂 It really is a nicely balanced iris, not too rooty, not too powdery. It really smells expensive and good deals can be had in the UK, I hope it’s the same in the US, Lillyjo.
You smell good! I think it resembles Iris Poudre, especially in the later phases. It really is a great bargain.
Thank you, Elisa. The drydown is indeed lovely.
Vanille Fatale for another cold rainy day….??
You smell so good.
Thank you!
When is it going to stop?!??
Never… I have to drive to Ann Arbor tomorrow and it’s supposed to rain all day.?
Wave hello to Ann Arbor for me! I went to school there 🙂
Uh oh. If folks in the Midwest are getting rain, that means I might see it in a couple of days.
Looks like it’s hanging around here for the week. Maybe it will fizzle out before it gets to you.
Cartier La Panthere (doing a lot of sampling this week). It’s super pretty! I think it is bothering my asthma a bit though, not sure why. I will try it again in a few days to see if it’s just a coincidence.
Also, just saw my hubby for a sec and he said, “what are you wearing, you smell good.” Y’all it never ceases to amaze me what he comments on. It’s always so random- never any one genre lol.
I hope that the La Panthere isn’t bugging you! Since you like it, and your hubby likes it, that’s a win-win.
I’m wearing Nicolai L’Eau de Sport, which is also known as Balle de Match. I love the Nicolai scents for themselves, but also because they sell 30 ml bottles.
Hooray for the 30ml Nicolais. I have a whole bunch of them now, the perfumes work well on my skin and I can actually afford them!
Exactly!
I’m testing Chris Rusak Bluer Skies (Whenever You’re Around) today. Primarily jasmine sambac and sandalwood, it’s definitely the kind perfume I could wear on the daily. I like his Io (incense) but I’m less likely to wear that kind of scent often.
I like the name!
Scent of the morning – Penhaligon’s Lily of the Valley (finished my sample). A nice realistic lily of the valley note, but something in this perfume smells unpleasantly sour.
Scent of the afternoon – Atkinsons The Nuptial Bouquet. A very clean, white (even pale) lily of the valley. Unfortunately, it reminds me of a laundry detergent, so this one is not for me.
Decent lotv is so hard to find!
Flowerhead is lovely, you smell great, Robin!
I’m wearing Vanille Insensee. Layered it with Eau de Merveilles the other day, and that was nice, too.
I ordered samples from OJ, and it shipped so fast I wasn’t at home and had to request another shipping date. :O Last time their samples came in the national post, now Fedex – in about 24 hours, very impressive (I’m outside of the UK).
You smell great. I bet VI is great layered with EdM.
Thanks! Yes, I think they work well.
I wish Flowerhead was available in 10 ml!
Yes, in fact, 10 ml should be available at every brand!
Does anyone remember Guy Laroche Clandestine? I found a mini of it this morning that I don’t remember buying, but it’s one of those ’80’s things with fruit, mixed flowers, and civet. Definitely a descendant of Youth Dew and Tabu. I’m liking it!
I sent you that in a swap in 2015! (disclaimer, I did NOT remember this, but did vaguely remember sending it to someone and my email search function does what my brain cannot) I’m glad you’re enjoying it! I still remember the little antique store where I bought it.
Somehow I missed testing it until now! Thank you, it’s lovely.
I don’t remember it, but I found a miniature in an opshop a while back. Your description is spot on, I need to wear it more often.
I’m in the original alaia. Do love it but find its base notes similar on my skin to TF black orchid- dunno if anyone else gets that.
I’m not sure if I’ve got a lily of the valley- I’m not mad on it but I will have a think. I think I may be too much of an oriental/Gourmand snob.
Bought an old fashioned wood football rattle today which is very much appreciated by mu little egg.
Marzipan! Inspired by the little marzipan I’m wondering whether I should nickname my little one for this forum. (Not sure to go asp-egg or aspic-terrine though!)
No similarity for me between Alaia and Black Orchid. However, I don’t smell any floral notes in Black Orchid at all. I get lots of truffle and patchouli from the Tom Ford.
Aspic-ita
All is right in the world because I watched the amazing Game of Thrones episode last night. Talk about the edge of your seat. I was eating dinner at the same time and kept putting my plate aside so I could focus solely on the show.
I wanted to wear a lilac perfume since the lilacs started blooming just under a week ago, and I still haven’t smelled any in that wild yet! I hadn’t worn Desarmant this year and had recently pulled out my decant, so it was my obvious choice. Having only worn it once or twice, I was expecting a straightforward, pretty lilac. Desarmant is a rich, oakmoss-leather-lilac concoction. Initially I was disappointed to not be wearing a pretty scent today, but I’ve been really enjoying the complexity and challenge of this one.
Mission of the next week is to get my nose in some lilacs!
I share your mission! The lilacs in my neighborhood are budding and juuuust about to bloom.
Oakmoss, leather, and lilac sounds fantastic!
Starting a long May weekend today. I am wearing MFK, his silver Gentle fluidity.
I love today’s teapot but it probably wouldn’t last too long in my house.
SOTD is vinty Jolie Madame. Shout out to Lightgray who pointed me in this direction today. The vintage Jolie Madame is perfect for early spring cool weather. Really, it’s just gorgeous and it makes the current version seem weak, wan and a little sad.
I have 2 glass teapots that I have had for years. They are surprisingly durable. On the downside, since they are clear glass, every little bit of gunk shows up.
I own 5 teapots and can honestly say that I don’t need more. Nope, it doesn’t matter how cute they are. ?
I still have the same 3 I had when I started doing Tuesday teapots here, maybe in 2016? I keep hoping one of them will break so I can buy a fun one, but they never do.
And last I broke a teacup it was my favorite morning cup so I just bought the exact same one over again, and there’s no fun in that.
The sun is shining as I eat my toast this morning, I’m always surprised at how much better I feel about the world on sunny days 🙂
Celebrating that with my new Dusita purchase, Le Sillage Blanc.
Sunny days are mood lifters for sure! Enjoy your new bottle!!
I’m wearing OJ Woman today, feeling sophisticated.
Sad day though: the senior living center manager called to say I had to bring my cat back home. They said it had gotten out into the hall twice, and Mom said it wasn’t hers and she didn’t know where it had come from. Also she had tried to pour milk for it and spilled milk all over the floor. I just took it over there on Saturday and as of yesterday she was delighted with it. So I was surprised. I went with a friend to collect the cat. Now Mom was sad and crying and asking why she couldn’t keep the kitty. I felt just miserable. I know she just doesn’t remember things at all any more.
Oh Calypso, that’s so sad. I went through very similar episodes with my mother. But her upset will be brief because she will forget you gave her a cat very soon. It was always so hard when my mother would get teary but we knew it would pass pretty quickly.
Aw. That’s unfortunate about the kitty and your mother. Accepting that a parent doesn’t remember things anymore is incredibly difficult.
I’m really sorry, Calypso.
That’s too bad; really wish the kitty had worked out for your Mom…
Oh no. I’m sorry to hear this.
Drat, sorry Calypso!
So that’s a teapot? Ummmmm. I thought it looked a lot like a hash pipe. ?? I had some interesting friends back in the day…
Had a kitty steeplechase earlier this afternoon. Somehow a fly got into the house. I did not even notice until all 3 cats started acting strangely. When all of them ran in the same direction, then I knew what was up. Fortunately for me, Teflon is an excellent huntress, and took care of said fly for me. No need to get the swatter.
SOTD = back in Silences. Today’s weather is much more suited for a green perfume than yesterday’s chill was.
Your comment made me laugh! ? I wish my cat would catch a stray fly.
I’d offer Teflon’s services as a tutor for your cat, but she hasn’t been able to teach our other 2 cats how to catch flies. ?
Re: the teapot, I thought the same thing ?
???! I’m rather happy to know that I wasn’t the only person who thought that!
If you look at the whole Bump set, it looks even more like drug paraphernalia:
https://www.designboom.com/design/tom-dixon-bump-maison-objet-paris-glass-09-08-2017/
Oh, totally does!
??
I’m very impressed by Teflon! My two felines will alert me to bugs in the house but then they look at me like “Aren’t YOU going to take care of it?” So I have to, sigh.
If it’s a fly or moth, Teflon will take care of it for me. However, if it is ants, or a centipede, then I will have to squish it! ????
SotD = Assam of India + Selva do Brazil
My quest for regular perfume enjoyment continues with tea for Tuesday with AofI + SdB. I truly enjoy the Berdoues line of scents. I love transparent fragrances like these.
LOVE that teapot up top today. Perfect.
Sounds like a nice combo! Maybe I should get a Berdoues sample set and experiment with layering?…
Got the backyard fence replaced today — so glad that project is over now!
Spent the day in remnants of last night’s post-shower TF White Patchouli and a random spritz early this morning from a Sephora sample that had lost its label. Yep, living dangerously, that’s me 😀
Ah, the infamous “mystery sample”!
Lol! I have some of those live dangerously samples. I’m always surprised when I can’t remember what I obviously asked them to give me for free!
I’ve done that at Nordstrom’s more than a few times!? I always think I will know which is which when I get home….
SOTD = Diana Vreeland Daringly Different
Powdery iris, rose, woods, light oud, tonka! ❤️
Busy busy! I got my Sephora order. The deluxe fragrance sampler looks even better in person than on the website! I’ll be turning in my certificate for Atelier Cologne Pacific Lime. Speaking of Atelier Cologne, there is a 100 mL limited edition bottle of Orange Sanguine. It is a deep blue bottle with an abstract and whimsical colorful design. Very tempting, specially at 20% off!
At Sephora? I can’t find the blue bottle.
Wearing a few sprays of vintage Diorissimo tonight. I should wear it all week as its so very nice.
When I sprayed it on, I kind of had a flash-back to a toy I had YEARS ago when I was a kid (probably giving away my age here, lol.) It was a little doll encased in a turquoise green holder. The doll was definitely enveloped in a lily-of-the-valley fragrance as I loved to open the top of the container and sniff the scent. She even had little lotv flowers in her hair. I do remember being a bit obsessed with the whole thing way back then.
You did not give away your age to me because I cannot think of that doll!
The only smelly dolls I can think of were Holly Hobby and her friends.
Ok, I had to Google it to be sure. Looks like they were called Liddle Kiddle Kolognes, so they do exist! They look a bit creepy now.
Spent the day in Atelier Cafe Tuberosa, now doing a side by side of their Clementine California and Mandarine Glaciale.
And which one wins?
Mandarine Glaciale for the win. Next I’ll do a side-by-side with Orange Sanguine.
Still learning what I don’t like. At first it was, “I like ALL the smells! I want that and that and that…” So I’m actually happy to discover a no!
There is some note common in Atelier’s Clementine California and Cedre Atlas as well as Hermes’s sur la lagune that I don’t like on me. Concluding it’s some if the woody notes.
I liked Orange Sanguine enough to buy a small bottle, but then found it so flat after an hour that I never wore it. I ended up giving it away. Maybe I should try the Mandarine Glaciale.
None of them are power houses, that’s for sure. Sample first!
