Monday all over again! It's also Zoo Lovers Day and Vivienne Westwood's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I’m doing big white floral (no match with today's image though) in Diptyque Essences Insensées 2015.
Reminder: 4/12 will be Platonic Ideal Friday...wear your platonic ideal of X (and X can be anything: yourself, a note, a fragrance family, a style or characteristic — be as creative as you like). (You can find an easy definition of platonic ideal here.) Suggested by Jalapeno and Koyel.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I am in perfect state of mind with Omnia (thanks to the swap meet)
Only Calypso answered my riddle in the weekend poll..when I said I am baking a Proust favorite-calypso response was it begins with the letter M, and yes I baked madeleines this weekend.
madeleines are one of my most favorite treats tho I will buy them anywhere I find them, even at Costco, lol. Yours must be so much more delicious. years ago i almost bought a set of pans so I could make my own, they are so cute.
The recipe I have is from my french neighbor…
Its not difficult but the balance of flavors is important. You have to taste the lemon, butter, and the sweetness
C’est exactement ça! ?
Aha, I knew my state of mind was missing *something*, Omnia is probably it!
Yum! Coincidentally I wore Cartier’s L’Heure Perdue for YOU yesterday apparently! This was an unopened decant from our most recent split-meet. I really like it, although there’s a good bit of controversy on the notes.
And that is my daughters name!! A Win-Win for us all! I wish I could taste one!!
SotD = vintage Oscar by Oscar de la Renta
I pulled Oscar out of storage over the weekend. I love this scent. To me it is a perfect floral bouquet with tuberose leading the way.
Thank you to lillyjo, SFguy, and Robin for your kind words to me over the weekend. NST is a wonderful place.
ok, NSTers, I’m ready to kick this week into high gear and make good things happen! Let’s do this. Who’s with me?
I’m with you!?
woot woot, lillyjo! let’s DO this
Me too!?
let’s GO! ???
I am with you tiffanie!
Woohoo, yasmina! ☺️?
Hey, but stay in medium gear, maybe! Or are you totally recovered?
thanks, Robin, you’re right, lol ? I am doing everything I can today, but from the relative comfort of my couch. ?️??
Forgot to mention I adore your SotD, I smelled it once on paper and think of it as a perfume unicorn ? or maybe a perfume white whale ? you can call me Ismael! ?
Good — make good things happen from the couch, that’s safest for now!
With you all the way!
I’m high-fiving you from here, hajusuuri!!! ✋✋✋
Woohoo, let’s do it!
Perfume+life for the win! Amirite, KellyC? ??
Posting stupid late, but yeah, I’m in!
+1 baby!! Go Tiff!!
I’m wearing Chloe Nomade for the first time.
Verdict?
I’m enjoying it.
I shouldn’t damn it with faint praise. It is pretty, goes well with the season, and does not make me feel like I’m wearing something only a twenty-something would wear. I have only worn one other Chloe scent, and this is much better.
Sounds worth trying then!
Good morning! Most of my ideas for platonic ideals are scent memories, so today I am wearing New Sibet, which is the platonic ideal of a head shop I visited once when I was a preteen, where I bought a flowery hippie dress I was hugely fond of for years.
I made some new perfume quizzes this weekend! Be warned the Turin/Sanchez one is super hard and I would be shocked if ANYONE got them all right (I certainly can’t)… but it’s fun to try! You don’t have to type them in order, you can sort of just stream-of-consciousness whatever comes to mind. https://www.sporcle.com/playlists/untilthe/untilthes-perfume-quizzes
Do let me know if you find any mistakes at my username + doublemint at gmail
I love the quizzes, but they are derailing my decluttering, lol! I could sit here all day and play?
tell me about it – right now I seem to be trying to learn the capitals of Oceania?
This looks so cool! I’ll need to try it at lunch time.
I immediately got sucked in – cool! But I don’t really understand how to work the Turin quiz – maybe more directions on how to answer or what to do? It seems like listing all the frags is not what’s asked for? Kudos, at any rate!
Thanks for the feedback! I’ll update the instructions. The Turin/Sanchez one requires you to type the names of the fragrances. Once you click “Play Quiz” a box will appear where you can enter your guesses. As soon as you type a correct answer, it will appear in its spot. You don’t need to type them in order.
oh wow, this is really fun and makes my worthless perfume knowledge suddenly seem a little worthwhile?!! thank you!!
I am wearing Serge Lutens Un Lys, which I think perfectly captures the idea of a blooming lily.
Yes it does!
I’m back on the declutter train today. Does anyone know why I’ve kept a non working cordless phone for ten years? I’m sure I had a reason at some point. Sotd is TF Orchid Soliel. As long as I don’t overspray this, it’s very enjoyable. No sun, but I will see the sixties today. Wintery Mix expected later this week!
I will try to send the sun your way for tomorrow!??
I’m seeing some breaks in the clouds now, thanks ?
it feels so good to reduce clutter! it’s funny how we can hang on to things for no good reasons. inertia is a powerful force, ha!
stay warm, lillyjo! Orchid Soleil is your personal bottle of sunshine.
It really does feel good. The more I get rid of, the better I feel.
Ugh, Old Man Winter, go away!
You smell very heady and sexy!
Thank you! It really is pretty sexy smelling, with just 2 sprays.
In case your kids ever wanted to play with a vintage vibe phone? Or in case someone with kids would visit and they’d like to experience playing with an old phone
?
Ha! That’s why I have a broken rotary phone in the closet.
For just in case your current handset conks out and the old one still works? I had some similar where I kept something for no good reason, found it during spring cleaning, considered throwing it out but changed my mind:
https://instagram.com/p/Bvjw5UTHNBB/
I think you are correct. Just in case the current working phone fails. I will also confess to having 2 corded phones for that exact same purpose, lol!
I’m glad you gave the Chanel a second chance, it really seems like it won you over.
You smell fantastic! Please keep the projected wintery mix up there. ??
You took a couple hits for me this winter, so I guess I can keep this one contained up here??
You smell amazing.
Thanks!
Keep the corded phone. Then if the power goes out you can still call the electric company without using your cell phone battery. (The power goes out for days here).
You smell amazing!
That is my reasoning for having the corded phone. My cell service can be iffy during storms.
Mine, too.
Maybe that Wintry Mix will change into something less obnoxious by the time it gets to you?
Eau des Merveilles!
I lost my voice over the weekend which stinks because I do a lot of talking at my job. (Also I like to sing in the car?) I’m off work today and tomorrow so I’m hoping it returns by Wednesday.?
On a happier note, the sun is out and we are supposed to reach 70 today for the first time this year!?
Yay for days off and sun! The other day I was running late for work. I put my perfume on while singing in the car. I got a mouthful of Coco Noir!
I hope your voice returns quickly. Enjoy the day?
go Team EdM!!!
hope u feel better quick, madtowngirl, the world needs more car singing.
Oh dear, I hope your voice comes back soon! I have a feeling my husband might be glad if I lost mine for a couple days, ha
And yay for the 70s! We hit 71F here yesterday and it was WONDERFUL, warmest day since Oct 10th!
Hope you get your voice back soon!
1) Oh no! Hyssop tea with honey!
2) You smell fab!
I love EdM so much! Boo for not being able to sing in the car but I quite like being forced to NOT talk to people at work haha!
Good morning!
Commando so far perfume-wise, though I may put on a light lemon or grapefruit perfume later today, or go with the vanilla moisturizing oil.
I was sick (gastrointestinal upset) all weekend and got dehydrated because I couldn’t keep food or liquids down. I ended up in the ER on Sunday to be rehydrated and given an anti-emetic. I’m feeling better today. But worst birthday ever! I’m going to pick another day in April and pretend it’s my birthday on that date, because I need a redo this year.
That is terrible. I hope that you are able to get some rest today and regain your strength!
Aww, dang.. Happy Birthday for yesterday and the whole month of April!
Omgoodness that sounds awful
glad you are feeling better today.
a birthday redo is the perfect gift to yourself. Glad you are feeling better today, neyronrose.
This is awful. Glad you are better.
Oh no! Feel better
Yikes! I’d say you deserve a redo, go for it!
Oh bummer, you deserve a re-do! I hope the tummy is getting better by the day.
Neyronrose I am so sorry! I hope that is indeed your low point for birthdays and all the rest of them are much better, including the one you have later this month
Oh no! This happened to me once years ago but not on my birthday – please find a better day and celebrate in style!
Re-set for a birthday re-do! I hope you are feeling much better!
If it makes you feel better: on my birthday this year, I had a terrible GIT upset and then had to take a 12 hour overnight flight. Still, I’ve had worse birthdays!
Oh, gosh! Let’s say I can sympathize.
Oh no, I’m so sorry! Glad you’re feeling better, and I won’t wish you a happy birthday right now–I’ll reserve that for your birthday redo later in the month!
Definitely do that! You can’t celebrate your bday properly when sick. Hope you’re feeling better!
Oh, no! So sorry ? Was that during your trip? You definitely need an extra special celebratory redo.
Didn’t make it to Baltimore on Saturday, sadly. Mostly I just stayed on the couch.
? That stinks!
Happy birthday for whatever date you choose!
Oh no!!! Definitely pick out a do-over day!
Yes, please pick another day in April to celebrate
Oh no! I hope your next celebration is much more fun!
Oh that sucks, being sick on your birthday. ? I hope that you can have a do-over soon.
Thanks for the good wishes, folks. I’m feeling much better today.
I had a very quiet day. I walked around the yard. The hyacinths are blooming, and they’re very pretty, and more of the daffodils are blooming. But mostly today I just sat and read e-books, and caught up on e-mail.
Everyone I’ve spoken to agrees that I should have a birthday do-over some other day in April.
In Infusion d’Oeillet and facing down a project that scares me. My youngest wrote a paper this weekend on procrastination, which is rooted in fear and intimidation, not time management problems. I have always forced myself to acknowledge that “writers’ block” is simply not know what one wants to say. So I am trying to figure out what I want to say, and acknowledge that I am scared that I won’t say it very well. Hmmmm…. I am feeling like writing a very long entry today on NST. . .
I needed to hear this! Thank you
yes! do it! procrastination = fear.
I have a daily 1 pm reminder on my calendar:
“If there’s a book you want to read but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.” Toni Morrison.
What a great quote
As someone who has to write everyday for a living this rings true.
This really resonates with me too..Good on you for facing you’re fears!
Ah, the wisdom of youth! I have a huge problem with procrastination. Maybe you should send me a copy of his paper. ?
A bit of serendipity, Boudoir.
hi Bear! “serendipity” and “boudoir” are two of my favorite words.
They seem to go together, don’t they?
This is very intriguing..
Bear!
*waves*
Yep! ?
SotD = Prada l’Homme l’Eau. Off to a business dinner later today.
Great news – the results of my last job interview came in today and I advanced to the next and final step. Go me!
Wow! Congrats ?
go you, lucasai!
Congratulations! I hope the next step will also go really well!
Yay!
That is good news Lucas! Good luck for the final step.
Go Lucasai!
HUZZAH!
And you smell elegant indeed!
Congratulations, hope you”ll go all the way!
Nice work lucasai!
Go, Lucas! Big congratulations, sweetie!
Yay! Good luck!
Go you?
Congratulations!
Woo hoo!!
Yay, so glad for you!
Congratulations!
Yay! ?? Happy for you Lucasai
Oh how cool! Congrats!
I am wearing a recent discovery from a small artisanal perfume house: How You Love by Jazmin Sarai. If you love cardamom and bright jasmin this is for you. I have been spritzing myself all weekend – I can’t get enough! I think I will go thru this morning travel spray pretty fast as the weather warms up.
I also like the concept of the line: pairing perfume with music. How You Love is “smooth jazz”.
Here are the complete notes: Cardamom Absolute, Grapefruit, Jasmine Absolute India, Rose Oil Morocco, Beeswax Absolute, Sandalwood & Musk blend
A while back I tried her Otis and Me, a cardamom and coffee scent, which I liked very much.
Hmm I like coffee but only as a beverage!
I like that one, but it was mostly beeswax and cardamom on me, which isn’t a bad thing.
I need to smell again for the beeswax
My SOTD is the platonic ideal of an Italian garden- VP Mito.
I still have a sample of that one, must wear it this week, perfect spring perfume!
oh, in case you missed it! All you Thunkers out there, please go check out the masterful Koenigsberg Universal Scale of Perfume Completion ™ in the Lazy Weekend poll. Monsieur Koenigsberg, we are not worthy
Haha, thanks for the flag! That is a great scale!
Hee-hee, tiffanie and Regina, you are too kind! :^D
???
Good morning fragrant friends! I’m just wearing a boring body spray from b&bw today, but I went to the new earth fare grocery store that just opened up near my house, and they have some great scented store brand products. I got a soap called spicy vanilla, which might be the cola scented soap of our dreams!
Dare I say it? The platonic ideal of cola scents?
We can hardly dare to hope!. ?
Happy Monday, all. Trying to wake up with something citrusy and bright, Atelier Pomelo Paradis.
Hope that worked!
Thanks to the swapmeet, wearing vintage Chanel No 19 today, which imho is the platonic ideal of a perfect green perfume. The grass is finally turning green here and on the drive home from a quick weekend away, I spotted several deer clusters – not big enough to be herds, but more than I could quickly count. And some jonquils were in bloom. We are having such a nice, slowly unfolding spring here ?
You smell fab! I am wearing vintage no 19 too!
That sounds like a perfect spring, and you’d be hard pressed to find a more perfect spring perfume!
good morning fragrant friends,
post shower a spray of Shal Nur for a warm day.
Good morning. I am feeling very springlike in Hermes Eau de Narcisses Bleu, layered with Bourbon French Narcisse.
That sounds lovely!
Thanks ! I have the rollerball for BF Narcisse. I just dab it on top of Hermes de NB. I am thinking of getting the lotions and soaps in both of these scents. I could have fun mixing, matching and layering.
I had a very busy but fun weekend.
I am wearing œillet Bengale today.
Last week i put on another perfume and I did not tell my husband what it was.
I asked him: do you think this is niche or designer brand, markted towards women or men?
He thought it was “a brand like Serge Lutens: not one for the masses like Chanel or Davidoff, but not very small either. And possibly but not certainly marketed towards men”
It was Man in Black by Bvlgari!
So funny, sometimes I get loads of pepper en and booze, and other moments its drier and more spicy leather, but this wearing I smelled the tuberose in it! Now I like it even more.
Though someone in our local supermarket manages to almost spoil this fragrance for me by wearing waay too much of it. Urgh…I can smell him from the other side of the store.
Over the weekend I asked a coworker if he was wearing Ambre Nuit? He said no it was Man in Black. I told him to never stop wearing it because he smelled so good.
Man in Black! It’s tuberose without the tuberose smell if that makes any sense!
I’m wearing Weekend à Deauville which does not really remind me of Deauville at all. It is a gorgeous fragrance though, green, and a little sharp.
The title does remind me of a beautiful French song called Deauville sans Trintignant by Vincent Delerm.
Wow, that is one bleak song!
SOTD is Chanel No. 19 extrait. Oh lord this is such a great green beauty. Happy Monday all!
The boss being out of the office, this week will be hectic!
Everyone have a gorgeous day! I think today’s theme song is Ru Paul’s ‘Looking Good Feeling Gorgeous’.
Yumm. Lovely!
It seems like a no 19 day.
It does, well that’s a good thing. I need some strength for today’s projects.
Never sniffed the extrait so I can only imagine how perfect you smell! I’m in the edt.
With most Chanels, the EDT is usually my favorite concentration. No. 19, the extrait is glorious stuff. Very rice and velvety.
Oh and my other PSA is that target now carries the Solinotes line; roller balls are $10 so I picked up the fleurs d’oranger. Cheap thrills!
Nice!
I’m feeling spring-like today and wearing Istara.
Not feeling springy today, more like “Come near me and I’ll hit you with my riding crop” so I put on Chanel Cuir de Russie parfum.
Ha! You smell mahvelous, darlink.
Well, I’d say you matched riding crip to perfume exceptionally well!
Yes! ?
Sounds like something I should wear to work!
Good pick for a Monday!
I was planning too wear something from the swap meet, but I started reading this post before choosing a perfume and Robin chose for me. I joined her in Diptyque Essences Insensees 2015 Jasmine. I love it so much. I wish Diptyque would make it and the 2014 Mimosa part of the permanent line. The 2015 Jasmine may come close to a platonic ideal of jasmine.
I had a really great weekend. Spent some time cleaning up and doing chores, so I felt really accomplished. My boyfriend had a work friend over to watch a movie, so while they watched the movie, I did his taxes (the boyfriend, not his friend) and did laundry. Yesterday I got a couple new rain jackets at REI since they were having a members sale of 20% off one item. I bought one of the jackets and my boyfriend bought the other so we could reach use our 20% coupon.
Excited to meet up with springpansy, Deva, and T-Rex tonight!
Sounds like you’ll have a terrific evening!
Oh, fun! Looking forward to hearing the report. I agree about the Diptyque Jasmin. It’s got all the qualities I love in a jasmine perfume- so golden and warm, sigh.
I just watched a review on the mimosa one. It sounded lovely. Have fun tonight!
Yay! Have fun!
I wish Diptyque would make it with a slightly more pedestrian jasmine — so slight that I can’t tell the difference but I can afford the 15 ml travel size. If wishes were horses…
Enjoy the meetup! I’m looking forward to hearing all about it.
Have fun at your visit!
Wearing VCA Bois d’Iris courtesy of a gorgeous NSTer.
One of my all time favs. You smell perfect.
My puppy is insane. Yesterday, it was in the 70’s and we heard spring peepers last night. Around two this morning, she starts her barking/baying thing. At first, I thought that she was having a nightmare. I take her out to see and she was barking at some Great Horned Owls that were hooting. Just as I was starting to fall asleep but afterwards, it was a restless night. Wearing vintage no 19 in EDP form.
Oh, sweet silly puppy! I remember when Snowy was little and he would bay at a passing siren!
You smell great! Hopefully your pup will get used to the owls and let you sleep.
Puppies and kittens have their own version of crazy, that’s for sure.
Happy Monday!
1) Am in a comforting combo of Buttercreme body butter and Florentina- perfect for this chilly rainy day!
2) There is this gardening series on Netflix called Big Dreams Small Spaces, with a presenter called Monty Don(he looks very rustic, in a good way). Let me tell you I binged a few episodes and then went about tearing apart my back yard, and I think I bought something like $100 worth of bulbs and seeds(in addition to the starts I already have). It is not just gonna be a smallish potager but a full designy cottage garden. My back is so sore and I am sure I have caught a spring cold because of this.
Oh that sounds lovely! Have you thought of an Instagram account to track your gardens growth? Just saying, it’s a great way to have a free memory album of sorts. I really enjoy looking back at photos from a couple of years ago, and I bet you would too. ✌?
You know, I have an Instagram account BUT I did not think of think of using it to mark the garden’s progress! This is a GREAT idea!
Monty Don is one of my heroes, he’s such a sweetie. Have fun planting!
He’s VERY sweet, and very thoughtful. The nice thing about this show is that the people themselves are doing the work, they have budget limits, and Don himself gets into the action. You see the connections that people make to their gardens.
Oh the planting: Just waiting for a break in the weather to clean up and then plant!
Monty Don is one my secret crushes. Especially since I found out that he spent a year in France as a student in the same city as I did.
Aww!
I have the two other series queued up – Italian Gardens and French Gardens- so I look for ward to those as I make more seed starts.
Right now we are getting a lot of rain, which is excellent, but as a result the soil is wet and cold, so I have started seedlings and they need to be repotted.
I loved the French gardens, a lot. I have visited Vaux-le-Vicomte and the Jardin Plume as a result.
Oh goodness! I will have to watch that! You will have to share pics somehow as things progress! I love gardening so much so I will have to catch that- thanks for the recommendation!
HA…I was watching the garden show narrated by the funny lady from the British show about the community nurses…sorry for the pathetic description but I know many of you will know which one I mean (?) Anyway, it made me go out and prune a bush, the end. So maybe I will avoid your more inspiring show!
Ok that was sad so I looked up the name of the garden show: All Gardens Great and Small, Netflix, 3 episodes, narrated by Miranda Hart.
I would never have guessed Miranda Hart as I think the series you refer to is the one about midwives? Or are they called community nurses in the US?
Anyway, Monty Don’s garden programmes where he visits other countries’ gardens, are a delight. And don’t necessarily make you feel guilty if you are not gardening yourself
Yes, thank you, midwives, I watched several years of it but was braindead apparently when I made this comment.
Rushed out of the house scentless this morning, so default SOTO is the decant of Do Son I keep at the office for just such emergencies.
In other news, my Christmas present from adorable hubby has been installed, and so Maison Fay has backed into the 21st century with a cute cute cute 18 inch wide Bosch dishwasher, which has it’s own water softener, to hopefully keep the well water from caking it up with calcium salts. This is a fabulous little machine. Now, to make the rest of the house live up to it! I have plans. AH is rolling his eyes, and the checking account is cringing in fear… and the hyacinths smell wonderful.
I have a skinny dishwasher, too, and I love it. Mine’s a Kenmore Elite. I had to sacrifice a cabinet to have it but I have no regrets. Loss of storage space is nothing compared to not having to do dishes by hand.
That’s exactly what we did, pull out a set of drawers and put the dishwasher in there. I am excited beyond words. I am already thinking about getting new dishwasher safe measuring cups and stuff like that! Getting rid of everything that can’t go in the dishwasher….
SOTD has been Maria Candida Gentile “Exultat” – I think I may do a week of incense perfumes leading to Friday. This quarter I am working a 4-day week, so today I joined TOMK as he went back to picturesque Delft to raid the record stores again. I am fighting off a cold which seems neither strong enough to take me down nor weak enough to admit defeat and go away. Yesterday we had a lovely afternoon in warm sunshine on the beach at Scheveningen. Tomorrow we’ll be back down to 10C.
It was a great day to spend at the beach in Scheveningen!
Have you visited Gouda yet? And Oudewater?
Gouda is on the ‘to do’ list – I think it is Thursdays for the Cheese Market, no? And TOMK wants to see Oudewater with the Heksenwaag. :^)
We were going to do Leiden today but I wasn’t not up to it. :^(
Can’t complain too much, Delft was lovely (again).
I’m in Cristalle, my platonic ideal of the chypre form. It’s the EDP today (I think it holds up better to the rainy weather we’re having), but I own and love the EDT equally as well.
Such a beautiful perfume!
Just finishing my morning coffee and T-Rex has downed her morning kibble, so we’re off to Seattle for a couple of days.
I’m in SmellBent Smoked Ambergris again. Can’t get enough of this and I’m overjoyed to have a FB of this loverly stuff.
Apropos of nothing, I found a couple more books that I’m looking forward to. One may have been mentioned here, but a B&N staffer also highly recommended it and I’m already hooked.
https://www.amazon.com/Gentleman-Moscow-Novel-Amor-Towles/dp/0670026190
Also picked up this one which sounded unique and was highly recommended:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2018/04/09/books/review/overstory-richard-powers.amp.html
B&N is the place to go to get T—Rex’s attention fix. Good god, everyone was on their knees petting and talking to her. A group of three young men we had met on a previous visit (one of them is a staffer) yelled out as soon as we walked in the door- “TESS is HERE!” ??
This feels like being known as someone’s brother or sister instead of you ?
Ha! That was me my whole child/teen hood ? My brother was quite popular with the goils.
Sociable dogs are the best for meeting people.
When I still had my dog, a lot of people didn’t know my name but would address me as Josephine’s owner.
It’s a good thing I like being a fly on the wall, cause that’s all I am, on the other end of the leash.?
Tess is pretty close ?
Rules of Civility is also quite good!
Oh, I will check that out, thanks!
?!
Sampling Jason Wu edp thanks to a swapper. This is really a beautiful non-heady jasmine with a touch of fig. The fig is not foody, and the jasmine reminds me of my “ideal” Jasmin de Nuit but without the spices.
This is something I never would have reached for in the department store, but it’s very well done and much more sophisticated than a lot of niche things I’ve sampled lately.
And the bottle is so lovely, too! I haven’t smelled this one, but you make it sound very nice.
That Jason Wu sounds pretty!
For the first time this year I’ve gone a bit perfume crazy, and as well as buying a used bottle of MH Vetiver Insolent, for £30, (yay!) I’ve just ordered two 30 ml travel sprays of Iris Silver Mist, alas they didn’t sell one on its own.
The seller had excellent reviews on amazonuk.
If any one in the UK would like one, please let me know, figuring someone loves ISM here, and I promised myself a reward when I finished my job!
SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP
Because, Chanel No. 19!
I was ambitious over the weekend re: preparing my tax returns but all I managed was loading TurboTax, including the extensive update, and the NJ State Tax download. Hooray for not having to get a second state or it would have cost an additional $44.95 + tax (I don’t even think I spent this much on the Federal and 1 state bundle).
In other news. I received my copy of Neil Chapman’s “Perfume: In Search of Your Signature Scent”. I was going to hold off on opening the package until I finished my tax returns. It was like Christmas morning and I couldn’t wait. Oh my – it is a thing of beauty! I only read a paragraph because I want to savor it for when I can devote leisurely time to it.
Fraternal twins lol. I’m wearing the edt!
I like being your fraternal twin!
Ah well, to you goes an enabler pin!
For the book. . .
i’m trying to make my Amazon Prime worth it!
Twins!
After much heel-dragging, I finally finished my taxes. You’d think I was in front of a firing squad!
LOL. I was actually missing documents but I got those this morning – the stuff from my employer which I had agreed to get electronically (which is pull vs. push).
Please send that firing squad over here. I cannot seem to make myself finish this year.
I filed my returns yesterday night! WHEEEEEE I’m all done! And there go thousands more dollars of my money. Sigh. Taxes are the worst. TurboTax and the tax software lobby are the worst. (I just listened to a story about how the tax software lobby blocked bills to simplify tax returns to maintain its billion-dollar industry; a very timely reminder for resentment.)
Good luck finishing up your returns soon!
Congratulations, Koyel. I am usually very efficient stepping through TurboTax once I have all my source documents.
Ooooh, let us know how you like the book!
Couldn’t remember the project for this week, so I’m in No. 19 (edt) because it’s Monday and I definitely needed a little spine stiffening.
Which brings me to a question: a large (3.4 oz is now large to me lol) bottle of No. 19 edt fell into my hands. I also have the edp and it will take me years and years to use up that much. Would anyone want some? I am willing to part with roughly 40 ml. I can do 10 ml or 5 ml decants. First come first serve! I would have offered a few weeks ago during one of the freebie or swap meets but just got it.
I’d love to swap! I’ll email you.
Email me and we will work something out!
Oh yeah, just click on my gravatar to get my email if you’re interested.
I am using up No.19 pretty quickly – 8 sprays per wear!
Congrats on your new to you bottle of No. 19!
In l’Artisan Parfumeur Histoire d’Orangers today–the platonic ideal of walking past an orange tree in full bloom.
We’ve been taking walks every night after dinner lately, and the streets are full of the perfume of flowers. I wish I could build an olfactory map of my neighborhood. It’s not often that I cherish suburban life, but the scents of blossoms down every street force me to remember that it does have its advantages.
Question: Has anyone experimented with adding oils to body wash? And/or hand wash? I wondered if it would emulsify properly, and how much you should add in order to moisturize without making it oily.
My yard is smelling so amazing right now. I have so many things blooming. I wish I could bottle the scent!
I wish I could visit you and hang out in your yard! What things are blooming? Do you have favorites?
I have a succulent called Euphorbia all over my yard that is covered in yellow blooms. It’s gorgeous. I also have a blooming nectarine tree and my cacti (cholla and hedgehog cacti) are starting to bloom as well. Also, my lilac is budding but hasn’t fully bloomed yet but when it does, it will smell so good!
The one thing that I think smells better than anything else in my yard is a few mahonia shrubs. They smell so good they’ll take your breath away.
These all sound lovely! Enjoy the scents of your yard
Janina has done it for her walks, I think ?
Sounds like your neighborhood is smelling much better than mine is! Landscapers put out a bunch of new mulch recently, and it STINKS!
Oh but mulch smells so interesting!!
Late today, but finally checking in!
No scent today….my allergies are flaring up so it’s best not to poke the bear with scent. Maybe tonight!
Just got back from a super quick trip to my in-laws in Jacksonville Beach, where I inexplicably bought a clearance sale bottle of Escada Rockin Rio. HUGE disappointment! Thought I was gonna love it, but I’m afraid it’s not my jam at all. I happily put in on a coworker’s desk this morning for her to find. Fortunately, I also stopped at a super nice Lush store too, and picked up the solid versions of Amelie Mae and I’m Home. GREAT STUFF! Quarter 2 is starting off with a bang Donatella…..
Back to reality and back to budget….LOL Happy Monday Y’all!
Same allergy boat! But I poked the bear….?
The reissue of Escada Rockin’ Rio did not smell the same as the original to me. It was much sweeter and missing a certain something.
Jour d’Hermes today. Probably not the best choice for a day when allergies are wrecking havoc. But I can definitely smell it! ?
I love Jour d’Hermes. You smell super good.
Jour d’ Hermes is fabulous. You smell so beautiful. Yes to Hermes!
Ugh! and Argh! on the allergies.
Since it is Vivienne Westwood’s birthday, I put on some Cheeky Alice, which is a good spring fragrance, with its lotv.
Oh nice!
This day is going by so fast! Which is better than slow for a Monday. And it’s nice out- a balmy 73 right now. I pulled put Bruma for the occasion. It’s lasting pretty well on me today- I usually find it to be pretty fleeting. And it’s very peppery today.
In other news, I enjoyed a whirlwind weekend visit with my brother. We ate at a Peruvian- Japanese fusion place : the highlights were the fluke ceviche with bananas and a churro-esque dessert. Amazing how much better things taste when someone else is paying ? We did some hipster watching which my brother enjoys much more than I do, lol.
I also scored a 10ml travel spray of Diptyque Vetyverio EDP (anyone try the EDP? I think I’ve only tried the EDT) from a buy-nothing local Facebook page where people give stuff away or post curb-alerts for furniture, or ask to borrow things etc. It’s a fun neighborly site and there’s some amusing stuff there like someone giving away a gallon of milk they hadn’t used that is due to expire soon.
Sounds like a fun weekend! And what a great fb group!
It is great group also because my neighborhood has become a sad black hole of the self absorbed, so it’s nice to see people actually interacting with each other.
How is the membership controlled?
It’s a closed group- the stuff you’re offering up has to be available for pickup in the trifecta of Bushwick/Williamsburg/Greenpoint. I’m assuming you get thrown out if you’re unreliable or don’t come through on your offers. The woman offering the perfume was about a 10 min walk from me, so that was nice. She doesn’t wear perfume but said it came in a baby shower gift bag she got a few months ago.
Maybe not a niche or the most expensive fragrance… but how much I enjoy it and get so many complements on it!!
In Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Mimosa (the yellow bottle).
I liked the first EA Green Tea when I was a little girl, the Mimosa one is a beautiful flanker, not too citrusy (hence the yellow bottle color!) at all. Fresh, calm and almost creamy in a way Cacharel noa is. Stays quiet but noticable, lasts a great deal of time on my skin!
Light and nicely office-appropriate. I gave one to a perfumista friend and kept one for myself. Marshall’s!
Lucky friend~! I got mine from my Mom for christmas –
TJ Maxx we have here in Key West!!
By the way… I always loved and will love Chacharel Noa. The original. What a beautiful perfume!! Like no other… I have to get me a bottle again (I’ve finished about ten of them in my lifetime).
Maybe I should order ten bottles for so cheap on ebay just in case?
Look what happened to… Alchimie by Rochas (my HUGE childhood love), Jaipur Sapphir by Boucheron.. Byzantine by Rochas (also a yellow bottle).. they go for as much as $300.00 a bottle now! Impossible to buy them discontinued, vintage scents.. and five years ago they were like $25.00 a bottle… I’m scared that is what might happen to Noa!!
Have you smelled Noa lately? Maybe get a bottle or two now just to make sure it is as good as you remember.
I just finished my last bottle not too long ago.. and I always smile when I smell Noa. it is just such a beautiful fragrance!
With our daylight saving finishing a couple of days ago, I’m now back to commenting later in the morning and there are far too many comments to read over breakfast! It’s a sunny morning here after some very dull and cold days, so I’m going to celebrate that with OJ Woman.
Yay for sunshine returning! ?
Chanel 1932 because that’s what was in my purse (tiny vial), since I forgot all about scent this morning.
Happy Monday!
Good to have an emergency stash…and hope your Monday turned out happy too!
I remember walking into a little family owned perfume shop we have here in Key West. One of the shelves has nothing but Chanel stuff on it (perfume or lotions etc.). That day I purchased a bottle of Chanel no.19 (love this one so much!!) but I remember seeing a Chanel bottle on display oi’ve never seen before… If I am correct it was a bottle of Chanel 1944. What a beautiful, complex perfume. I mean fresher than Coco but just as sophisticated.. I am wondering what 1932 smells like now!
Bright sunny day here and I am wearing Soleil by Fragonard.
I bought that once several years ago–a mini. I loved the bottle.
A perfumista friend recently introduced me to SL Datura Noir so it’s my SOTD. Where has this been all my life? I thought that I didn’t like tuberose much until I smelled this one. If you don’t like tuberose, this may be the one for you. DN is a not overly sweet tuberose with almond and coconut. It’s a little soapy in the dry down but still has some body to it. I don’t get a ton of coconut either. It feels balanced and very easy to wear. You might even call it a platonic scent as I can’t imagine anyone objecting to it.
Is the coconut really sweet with the almond?
It’s not completely unsweet but I wouldn”t call it a sweet perfume. The coconut is a blended note. I can’t really pick it out but my nose is not tgat sensitive, plus allergies… It’s the coconut meat, not thr shell.
Unseasonably warm where I am at today (82 degrees F). The forsythia are in full bloom right now and might stay that way for the rest of this week. ??????
SOTD = L’Artisan Voleur de Roses, from the sample stash and Jepster. No roses in this to my nose, but a very versatile patchouli scent instead. Not too clean, not too funky. I’m liking this!
And this was the one that smelled like yucky wet basement to me…
Eeeeeeek! Well I am glad that I am not getting yucky wet basement! Patch tends to be a forgiving note on skin for me.
Jelly of your warm day and forsythia! It was damp and rainy here today and temps will be dropping back to the low 50s tomorrow. Its still early here yet.
Does VdR remind you of Relique d’Armour? They sound similar by your description. I like many musty chypre perfumes but RdA is just a little too dank for me. So I’m wondering if they are similar?
No, I don’t see a resemblance between Relique d’Amour and Voleur. The Relique is very much an incense perfume on me. The Voleur is similar in feel to Diptyque Tempo, according to my nose and skin chemistry.
Thanks! Good to know.
82! I’m jealous. We made it to 65, but it’s down hill for the week.
The cats are happy that it is warm during the day, but they do NOT like the cold air coming out of the vents from the A/C being on at night. ???
velour de roses smelled like.. patchouli and roses or roses and patchouli to me..
Penhaligon’s Ostara again for me! Love those daffodils.
Put on some Orris Tattoo tonight. Good match for the rain that’s falling.
