Friday, and not a moment too soon. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance by Gallivant, Grès, Ginestet, Grossmith or Grandiflora, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter G.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm taking partial credit with the lovely Gobin Daudé Sève Exquise.
Reminder: 4/12 will be Platonic Ideal Friday...wear your platonic ideal of X (and X can be anything: yourself, a note, a fragrance family, a style or characteristic — be as creative as you like). (You can find an easy definition of platonic ideal here.) Suggested by Jalapeno and Koyel.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

SOTD is Kalemat-YUM!
Disregard rest of post, unless you’re interested in Not Perfume News?
I made out like a bandit yesterday and am tickled with all the boxes I got checked off on my To Do list.
I found an elevated collapsible cot for T-Rex so when we’re out in the woods camping she has dry place to lay down when outside the van. The center area is mesh so when it’s hot, there’s good air flow, and when it’s cold, I can put a blanket on it without having to worry about it getting all wet and gross. I’ve been looking for one that was affordable/collapsible ever since we started our wandering ways. Score from TJMaxx ??
Found a small, cute, cheap washable backpack (TJ Maxx, you’re killing it! ??) that will hold my EDC bag, the doggo’s water dish and chuck-it toy, platypus water container, poop bags, along with other things likes keys, sunglasses, etc. Now when we bike I don’t have to try to juggle my crossbody, the leash, my phone, and the handlebars??
Then, went next door to Old Navy and found some cute, cheap tops for spring and summer. Another ??! I’m decluttering on Saturday and getting rid of stuff that I’m not using/wearing regularly (and in the spirit of transparency, some I’ve just fluffed my way out of), and hoping to find a few things that have gone MIA.
Still on the lookout for a better perfume storage system. I have not yet found a way that really works for me, and I may have to rearrange some other storage areas in the van. Feng Shui-ing a camper van is a bit tricky.
I’m headed up to Seattle for a couple days on Monday. I have good information from a fellow van dude about legal overnight parking areas. T-Rex and I plan to water taxi to downtown and check stuff out. I’m excited! ? Heard about an excellent Pho place, but not sure where it’s located in relation to my parking spot (this info also from van dude). If anyone knows the Seattle area and has recommendations, I’m all ears. I will have the doggo with me, so will be limited to a certain extent.
I’m also tickled because I was able to take the dog in with me today at Bass Pro, TJMaxx, and Barnes & Noble. She’s super social and is delighted to meet people. That tail is a deadly weapon it whips around so hard! I try to be very cognizant about having her out of the van as much as possible on my days off, and even though we spent a couple hours at the park this morning, she likes to interact with bi-pedals.
We are wishing all Fragrance Fiends a Happy Weekend!
Your Not Perfume News is always welcome. It reminds me that one may still dream about a pared down life. Enjoy Seattle!
Thanks! Sadly, I still find myself “wanting” stuff. Not sure why. I saw a beautiful jacket the other day that I would have absolutely no use for, but I still wanted to buy it because it was so pretty?. I think this may be exactly like some men are with pretty women….
A thing of beauty is a joy forever. But I find it is easier for me not to buy things when my life feels rich and rewarding ( that’s why I rarely buy anything when I travel). The problem is when life is boring and a slog and I feel I should reward myself for just showing up to fight the same old battles over and over again.
I find it easier not to buy things because I have absolutely no where to put anything extraneous! ?
T-rex can come sleep in my bed, if you want to come declutter my basement ?
Seriously… I need help lol
She would take over the entire bed. She’s selfish like that. Loves to take her half out of the middle. ?
I’m pretty ruthless when I start devluttering, so I’m not sure I’d be the best one to tackle your basement. Seriously, I chuck a lot of Stuff!
Sounds like a great day with more to come, very happy for you!
Thank you and give Mila a smooch from T-Rex and me ?
Gosh, it’s been ages since I’ve seen Kalemat mentioned.
Sounds like you had a good dose of Spring fever! I was infected this past weekend and got rid of looaads of clothing. Feels good to unload (and make room for new stuff?)!
It’s been ages since I wore it, too. Forgot how much I liked it. I had this misconception that once the conversion was done, the van would be “just right” and I’d be “done.” But, it’s a never ending shuffling of seasonal things, Wild camping thing, stealth camping things, dog things…I’ve finally accepted I will continually be shuffling and rearranging for the duration of this weird road trip I’m on.
NPN (Not Perfume News) is always entertaining! In regards to Pho, my uncle lives in Seattle, his two favorites spots are Pho Ba and Pho Bac.
Have fun camping with Rex!
Good to know, thanks! Just realized the pho place I heard about is in Tacoma…duh me! Pho King or King Pho. A pho afficiando recommnded it. I will make note of your uncles favorites✌?
It’s so satisfying when you find just what you’ve been looking for!
It is! And when I save a boat load of money doing it, it’s even better! ??
Hi Deva!
I’m in Seattle. Please email me via my screen name above if you’d like to try to get together. I’ll be working but since I am downtown, I might be able to join you for something. We have lots of good pho, ramen, sushi, seafood, etc. Generally speaking, dogs can’t go into restaurants here, but can always hang out outside and get lots of pets. Have a great time, either way!!
I will email you tonight. I’ve been looking around online at “dog friendly” places and Seattle seems to be mostly ok in outdoor areas. I’m tickled I can take her on the water taxi. She loved the ferry to Okracoke a couple years back.
Love your non-perfume news. And high five on all of your great finds!
When it rains, it pours! Hoping the trend continues!
Yay on the score! Maybe there’s a back pack or those mini pack-mule contraptions for T-Rex to haul some stuff for her human.
She has one of those, but since she not a very big dog, she’s pretty limited with what she can carry. Especially if I’m biking, I don’t want her to get too tired.
T Rex sounds adorable ! Have fun in Seattle.
Thank you. We’ll do our best. ?
If you are thinking of Than Brothers Pho, there is a location in just about every neighborhood. Very tasty stuff!
The only thing I miss about San Jose is all the pho shops- literally 5-10 within just a couple of blocks of each other. ?
Lucky you, getting up to Seattle! I enjoyed my last visit there very much. I didn’t have nearly enough time to explore, though.
I don’t know why I’m so excited?! I generally avoid cities like the plague, but since I’ve made some vanning contacts, it’s much easier. Finding a safe, legal place to overnight is HUGE, so I’m grateful for the vanning community across the nation that shares information about spots in cities and wilderness areas.
I’m in Feu Secret, from little-known, very small niche house Gruno Gazzolari. Highly recommended. 😉
Good Gtuff!
hehehehehehehe
?
Good one?
Oh, sly! ?
Haha, nice job fitting in the CP 🙂
I actually thought it was called Geu Secret, but I might be mistaken 😉
LOL – and with a mouthful of cherry tomato salad, that was almost a disaster. Or gisaster. 😀
Gilarious. ?
Hah!
Gallivant Tokyo, I choose you!
Ha!
?
Twins! I had a feeling you’d be wearing it today!
Yay! I’m so predictable ?
There are quite a few people wearing Gallivant today.
Because it’s a great small brand.
Gris Clair today, a warm/cool pleasure.
Lovely in lavender!
A perpetual favorite of mine.
I especially love the next day remnants on a cotton shirt.
That’s how we fell in love…
All set to go to the Grand Canyon, when I decided to change my shirt, and put it back in the suitcase…. 2 days later, after an arduous journey, and a hot shower at a decent hotel, I changed into the cotton shirt in my case… and magic. Was the most comforting & relaxing experience.
Not participating in the CP – today I am giving the decant of Memo Sham’s Oud I got from a very kind NSTer a workout. I realize that Sham’s Oud is a sort of standard Middle eastern scent and there are many options that are not as spendy as the Memo, but I wanted to try it, just because i love the Memo bottles and want to get a Memo bottle of something.
When I came down stairs this morning and gave adorable hubby a kiss, he mentioned, “Ah, you smell good!” it is just fascinating to me which scents he finds pleasing, which ones he just ignores, and which ones he finds “strong” as in an euphemism for “Ugh, what is that nasty stuff you doused yourself with? You smell like a possum that has been rolling in a dead raccoon…”
Anyway, moving away from that image, any scent to which AH does the “You smell good” response, justifies me moving said bottle up the to buy list. 🙂 Memo is now hovering under Wisteria Hysteria, No. 19, and the back up bottle of Mohur Extrait.
So, today is a good perfume day! Happy Friday, one and all…
Well that’s nice! I love Shams Oud and so does my DH, who bought it for me. He also likes the sadly discontinued Memo Manoa and the new Tiger’s Nest. The Memo bottles are so pretty.
I’ve only sniffed a couple of Memo-s on paper, but the bottles do look very good! What scents does your husband not like? In this house, it’s generally all the great vintage or vintage vibe scents that only I adore.
AH ignores Mitsouko. Chanel #5 he is on the fence about. The vintage Caron Parfum Sacre elicited the “Strong” comment. Also, Elizabeth Arden “Red Door”. He hated that. Since i didn’t love it, I got rid of it. 🙂 Some of the Tauer perfumes he had a negative reaction to, I don’t remember which ones. AG Heure Exquise he was quite appalled by… I don’t see a common note in the ones he doesn’t like, or the ones he does…
Ha, I have a husband like that, too. He likes light and fresh. But I press on!
I’m also continually mystified by which scents my hubby comments on. The compliments are so out of the blue. Two that get regular comments are Noir de Noir and Geisha Noire. Other than that, they’re completely random.
My hubster has only commented on Agent Provocateur (smells like his grandma) and Arquiste Nanban.
He must have had a rockin’ grandma.
Yeah! FWIW I don’t find Agent Provocateur like that at all.
I get complaints from Mr. Jalapeno about old school Opium.
Looove vintage Opium!
Really! What’s wrong with his nose?
Fendi by Fendi vintage EDT (1985)
rich heady fur mossy leather chypre perfume, a little dated but it smells wonderful!
Total perfection ?
Scent twins! Wearing Fendi extrait. 🙂
Currently basking in the olfactory gloriousness that is Gucci Pour Homme. I think it’s worth multiple points whatever the project!
I am late, but yes it is!
Cabochard by Grés. Not sure of the vintage but I think late eighties, early nineties? Old enough to still be loaded with oakmoss, anyway. Dry, complicated, astringent chypre, just the sort of thing I love the most.
You smell great.
Twins!
I wanted to wear Gres Cabochard, but it is dark and rainy today and I’ve been very bad and bought a bottle of Fils de Dieu. (Apparently I could only sit on my hands until April 3rd. I wonder if Koyel is still succeeding?) My husband, who hates vanilla, likes this one. When he asked what I was wearing, I had a little bit of fun and gave the perfume’s original name. The expression on his face was priceless.
Have a lovely weekend, everybody!
Oh, Fils de Dieu is so great! A terrific choice to cheer up a grim grey day.
I sure am still succeeding! *preen*
…What was the original name? (This reminds me of the time I went to a perfumerie in France some years ago and tried an EldO for the first time. The SA brought out what she said was their best-selling EldO. I asked what it was called and she said, “Putain des Palaces,” and then she and the other SAs had a nice little laugh about how taken aback I looked by her straight-faced delivery of the name.)
Anyway, I think someone mentioned that FdD has a rice note in it, so it’s on my list of things to try…but that list is really long at this point.
Filipino Houseboy. Not kidding. And congratulations. You must be a Type AAA personality to have such resolve. My resolutions usually fly out the window pretty quickly. 🙂 And FdD deserves all the love it is getting here. Very easy to wear and kind of just hits a certain spot that I hadn’t even known I needed filled.
Oh geez, Amyitis. I got your reply in my email and I didn’t remember fast enough what you were responding to, so I saw “Filipino Houseboy” out of context and stared at my phone in mild horror for a few seconds before remembering that I should’ve been expecting to be shocked. O_O Glad they changed the name. (Though now I’m wondering about the similarities between the two–how is the one like the other? hmmm)
He-he. 2/2.
Fils de Dieu is a great scent for cold, rainy, dark days. I think I like it at those times even better than in the summer time.
FdD for the score ??
Enabler pin to you. Buying Chergui blind turned out to be such a success, I gambled on FdD and loved it. I will stop now, while I’m ahead. ?
Oh, great strategy! Glad they both worked out for you!
On the Cabochard squad today (hi fam!) in a smear of parfum and a splash of EDT. Tremendously good mood today as I’m having the equivalent of the Bank Error in Your Favor card from Monopoly – apparently the government was supposed to give me a raise last year and just realized it and the back pay showed up this morning in the form of a paycheck twice as large as usual. I’m reeling and waiting for a call back from payroll to confirm it’s real. If it is, it will be enough to finish paying off my grad school loans and have enough left over for Chinchilla!
So, question for Chinchilla fans: Anyone have a strong opinion on EdP vs. parfum?
Oh man… back pay is the best! Congratulations!
With that kind of good fortune you might want to buy a lottery ticket today.
I second that!
Wow, I never have that kind of luck! I just get big tax bills. Enjoy your windfall!
Hurray, what a great day!!
YAY! Good for you 🙂
I don’t have anything useful to say, but I did enjoy whatever form of Chinchilla I tried that one time (it was probably the EDP). It also did really really well layered with that rose scent from Mirus.
You need Oakland Fresca and you may want to confer with Deva.
Oh, keeping fingers crossed it’s real and you get to have a little shopping spree!
I am no help, sorry. I got mine in a swap meet and it was just labeled “chinchilla” so I’m clueless as to whether it was edt or parfum….
that is so wonderful!!
Hoping that your big check is for reals!
I sprayed some Gres Cabaret in the bathroom for ambiance, but I’m wearing Black Cashmere.
Gobin-Daude Seve Exquise. It’s my all time absolute favorite perfume. The note that goes straight to my heart is poplar sap. I wish more perfumers would use poplar. Even more I wish someone would revive Victoire Gobin-Daude’s genius perfumes.
Joining you in Gobin Daudé Sève-Exquise, a perfect perfume for an early spring day, and in the wish that this line might be revived.
Oh, these comments inspired me to go read a little about the line and I’m envying all those of you who got to try it! It sounds wonderful.
Oh. If somebody would resurrect the Gobin Daude line, I would be forever grateful. I keep my empty sample vial of Nuits au Desert, just to open it up once in a while and sniff the seven molecules of aromachemicals still remaining. Still have a little Jardins Ottomans, Biche Dans l’Absinthe, and Seve Exquise left. I am going to bring them all out of my cabinet today, and wear them all week!
Does poplar sap have a sweet maple smell or is it more resiny? What type of poplar? Yellow poplars? Questions, questions!
Can’t be sure exactly what kind of poplar perfumery material was used in Seve Exquise, but to me it smells just like balsam poplar, aka Balm of Gilead, ( populus balsamifera) a kind of scrubby tree with sticky, fragrant buds that grows wild in the northern U.S. and most of Canada. Balsam poplars grew wild at the edge of the woods on my grandparents’ farm in northern Maine and I’ve always loved the smell.
Balsam poplar does have a freshness and slight sweetness akin to fresh maple sap but it’s not anywhere near as sweet as maple syrup which is a 40 to 1 concentration of maple sap. (My husband is actually boiling down the last of this year’s maple syrup today, so I have a good comparison.)
What you notice more in balsam poplar is a smooth, rounded resinous note with a slightly spicy edge. To my nose it falls somewhere in between benjoin and bayberry but fresher and lighter. I was amazed to find this scent in a French perfume. There must be other similar poplar species and sources in Europe but I don’t know what they are.
That is really interesting. Thanks.
It loos like the only balsam poplar we have here is populus trichocarpa introduced in the 1970s. Arctander has an entry on populus balsamifera. It sounds amazing.
I’m wearing Cabaret today, since I have no other G houses other than Guerlain.
Perfect!
I’ll be joining Lucasai and possibly other people yet to post comments in Gallivant Tokyo today.
Hey, triplets with you and Lucasai!
House quadruplets? Or am I a quintuplet at this point?
Today is my monday…
Wearing vintage Cabochard. I think I love this leather the most. I don’t wear it much, I think because it’s a splash bottle, and when I decanted into a spray, it didn’t smell as good.
Saying hi to PL67, been missing you here lately. Hope all is well ?
You smell fantastic! I have a bottle if the current edt; going to put some on now.
Thank you, twin!
I was just thinking about her too as I started reading the comments!
We are on a wavelength again!
Monday’s evil clone. poor you.
Yeah, wish I could say tgif!
Would your vintage Cabochard work in the summer for you? That’s the one time of the year where splash bottles start to make sense to me.
You know, I’m not sure. I will have to give it a try this summer.
Taking full credit with Grossmith Phul-nana today. It’s a beautiful ageless floral. It’s not the vintage formulation, classic and contemporary. I think this is appropriate for a lady in the 1920’s Art Deco era or today (like me) in a t-shirt and jeans!
Twins! We do smell beautiful!
Grandiflora Boronia, from the swapmeet. I like it! It reminds me (in style, not necessarily in notes) of Neela Vermeire Mohur. I can’t put my finger on the Duchaufour signature, but it’s certainly there.
Happy Friday!
Dark and rainy here this morning. Wearing a bit of Coco Noir to go to yoga class, then after my shower I will wear Ginestet Botrytis to join the sync. Happy Friday!
So basically, you will be smelling great all day! Hope it clears up for you ?
Hi all and happy Friday! SOTD is Fendi extrait. It’s dark and drizzly today and it has that perfect goth vibe to match my lippie, Ellis Faas 102, dark plum wine. 🙂
I’m in constant search of the perfect plum lipstick. Sounds like a great match for the gorgeousness of Fendi!
Hi Lillyjo – see the selection below. I have several different shades (101, 102, 201, 202, 103), they last beautifully, leave a nice stain and don’t bleed into liplines.
https://www.ellisfaas.com/collection/ellis-red
Wow! I never heard of this brand. The last few years I’ve had a heck of a time trying to stop lipstick bleeding. Thanks ?
fillers.
Ginestet Sauvignonne. And I love its mineral sourness today. 🙂
Couldn’t find my Ginstet decant since my collection is in a spot where I can’t really get to it. Wearing the last of my no 5 Eau Premiere decant. I only have 4 bottles and 7 decants that I managed to liberate.
Okay, no snorting, I am planning on Goop No 2 post shower.
Is a grin allowed?? 😉 😀
Yes SmokeyToes, grin with G!
I have a soft spot for Gwynny. She taught me how to roast the perfect chicken! And I looked at the notes of your No 2 on Fragrantica and it seems quite nice. Now, if there had been a steamed rice note, I could have made some fun…
So about perfect chickens… I have been to many cooking schools and bought my house in Northern CA when I walked in and saw a fireplace between the kitchen and living room.
I spent many hours in the kitchen when I was married. It was deeply satisfying.
When my ex husband told me he was finished being married and other things planned, I was accused of being too pedestrian because I would roast a chicken most Sundays.
So, speaking of back pay or in this case pay back… I went to Social Security today with a copy of my marriage cert. and divorce papers and my ex-husbands’ social security will start to be deposited in my checking account in June.
Too bad my mom is gone, that would make her happy:)
High five! You can roast a chicken for me every Sunday if you’d like ?
This would have made my mom happy too! Good for you!
Well thank you!!
Sweet! Ye olde What’s mine is mine; what’s yours is mine, too!
A man who doesn’t appreciate good food, is pedestrian. And if possible, you should spend the Social Security money on all the good things in life. The little extras!
It’s Friday so J won’t judge you. My cousin’s daughter had play dates with Apple way back when so I can’t be too nasty.
No snorts from me!
Does that come in a steam version?
Mental image – ow.
we are all so bad we are good.
No judgment here! If it smells good wear it!
Joining the cold and rainy crowd today with a dose of sunshine from California Reverie from the swap spoils.
It’s a rare cloudy day here in NM. Hope the sunshine makes its way to us both soon!
Let’s hope! The rain would be more tolerable if it weren’t also freezing here- because of course I underestimated and underdressed this morning!
Oh I hate being underdressed. It was a 2 scarf day even and my down coat.
Yeah, I pulled out a warm winter-weight shirt for today and I still felt chilly.
Wearing Gallivant Amsterdam, for real this time. The Mr. liked it. Got one more sample to try tomorrow (Berlin), but not a miss in the line so far. I don’t necessarily NEED any of them, but with those 30ml sizes, WANT might be a stronger influence. Brooklyn is just so smiley.
Agreed. I don’t know that I LOVE any of them, but I sure like a lot of them.
House triplet! So far, the only Gallivant that I have tried is too sweet for my taste.
I’m so excited for next week’s CP! 🙂
This week I’ve done abysmally with the CP. I don’t even think I’ve work a Guerlain, which would have at least gotten me partial credit, and goodness knows I have enough Guerlains to choose from.
Instead, I’m in my weirdo decant of Tea for Two that has turned into an extrait over a decade. It’s the Platonic ideal of Tea for Two! Look at me getting a head start on next week.
Oh crud, I just remembered that I had meant to wear Gres Cabaret. Oh well, maybe tomorrow.
Great suggestion for the CP next week. It will be fun to plan that out.
I wore Chergui today and had been planning on Gris Clair or Ginestet Sauvignonne. But like you said, there is always tomorrow!
Well, you may not be following the CP, but you smell GREAT!
Thanks to your split a while ago! 😀
Oh right, of course! Thrilled you’re getting good use out of it. Sometimes I regret having split off quite as much of that one as I did >.<
That’s impressive for a decant to have stuck around for that long without going off!
I have Gallivant and Ginestet samples laying around somewhere but then I found a bottle of Cabotine Rose by Gres sitting in the way back. I think it was a few dollars at TJ Maxx a bunch of years ago. It’s a cherry blossom scent (I think the rose just refers to the juice color) and it has the longevity of a body spray. So before I was even able to leave for work I sprayed some Tauer Une Rose Vermeille. So partial credit, I tried!
Today was a Chergui day, just because. It does at least contain a “g”, just sayin’. And I’m enjoying it.
air de Cabochard PdT
I had to look this up, as I wasn’t aware of it. Is it very leathery?
It is primarily floral SOAP with a bit of the original Cabochard leather beneath.
Good to know, Bear, thanks!
Have you tried Chanel 1957? I didn’t like it in paper but changed my mind after I wore it from my large sample ?
Purely by coincidence, I managed to wear a G brand fragrance today–my intentions are good every week to get with the program! It is Rose Gold by Ganache Parfums.
Nice one!!
I am wearing Hermessence Cedre Sambac. This has become one of my favorites.
I am drinking a cup of Russian Country tea– same as yesterday.
Gallivant Tokyo. Was planning on Brooklyn, but the weather today is more suited to Tokyo.
Happy Friday, friends!
Hello, house twin!
I’m wearing Grandiflora Queen of the Night, a lush, summer floral in Duchaufour style. I really like it, it’s probably a more complex perfume than yesterday’s Madagascan Jasmine, but that jasmine really tugs at my heart (and my purse) and this one does not. I will definitely finish my sample though. It is very beautiful and very wearable.
Tea is a red Yunnan that I’ve managed to overbrew. Glad it’s Friday evening.
Grandiflora Magnolia Michael. Thanks to Undina and the Splitmeet!
Hello All! Happy Friday!
1) You guys blew up my email yesterday! Thank you so much for your kind words! I had fun shopping for small grower Champagne yesterday!
2) A mild rainy day today! Perfect for Red Roses by Jo Malone (from a sample).
I have no small “G” houses at present, and it’s cold and rainy at my house. I’m wearing Ambre Precieux for warmth, the one in the tacky red bottle with the fake jewel on top.
You smell great! I’ve never seen the bottle in person but it looks great in pics.
Cold and rainy here today, too.
Milk of Flowers from Geo F Trumper
SOTD = maria candida Gentile Sideris
Incense, benzoin, resins – great for a rainy day.
I will be starting my tax returns this weekend. Wish me luck! I will also be getting stuff ready for the United War Veterans Council to pick up next Friday.
Good luck!
Thank you. A little over a week left and I really don’t want to extend.
Sideris! you smell great!
Thank you. I learned a few things today —
– when a perfume has sandalwood in a supporting role, I don’t smell it in myself but I smell it around me. I don’t know about you but I get somewhat envious when I sniff the air and think someone smells better than me. So twice this week that happened to me and I just realized I was smelling my own perfume and was, therefore, jealous of myself. Maybe I’m losing it ?
Being jealous of how good you smell is kind of a compliment, though! ?
It is like patting myself ?
Had that experience tonight—wondering what smelled so great, and realizing it was me. It’s a win, if you ask me.
Having no small ‘g’s,’ I’m twisting today’s cp to suit my day. Wearing a large ‘G’ instead, Givenchy Ange Ou Demon, one of my favorite scents for Opening Day at the Ballpark. Angel or Devil? Black or White?perfectly suits my White Sox and AOD perfectly suits what is often a chilly, damp opening day, which it is today. Unfortunately, we’re not going to the ballpark today, but the next best thing: the tween grandkids are here today; we’re dressed in our black-and-white Sox gear and are headed to our favorite local family restaurant cum sports bar to catch some lunch and watch the game. Go White Sox!
Wishing everyone a great weekend ahead!
Mm. You smell divine.
My favorite from that line is the flanker, Le Secret. One of the only bottles I’ve needed 3 of… ??
Lovely Griday to you all! Everyone smells fantastic! Except for me- I need a shower lol
Back to the office for me in just over an hour… working evenings today & tomorrow.
Completely unable to participate in the CP. I don’t believe I have any small houses with G. Best I’d be able to manage would be a Gucci or Guerlain? And I think the only Guerlain I’ve got is an ancient bottle of AA Lavande Velours… Not even good for a partial credit. ???
Sample-sniffing day, but also have a spritz of 222 by Le Galion in a mini. Will wander outside when the perfume riot has subsided…
The Lombardy Poplars have begun to turn vibrant yellow and the mulchy smell of their fallen leaves is one of my favourite smells in the world . I had to shelter under them yesterday when a hail storm came through and there was a tremendous clatter, it was lovely. We have a lot of tall poplars down this way as they were brought into the country in the 1830s and they were often plated to mark river fords because you coukd see them from miles away in the rather dry and empty otago landscape. The old orchards have poplars around their boundaries and the sutumn colours are breath taking. G for Gabrielle which is a yellow scent. Last day of summer time, the clocks go back an hour tomorrow so I will be walking the dogs in the light rather than pre dawn gloom once more.
My most vivid memory of Lombardy poplars is of those in the Mendoza wine district in Argentina. I’d taken a hair-raising bus ride over the Andes from Chile and didn’t know what to expect when I came down the other side into Argentina.. What I found to my amazement was a very Italian seeming landscape with endless vineyards irrigated by a complex system of aqueducts (acequias) built not by ancient Romans but by the pre-Hispanic indigenous Huarpe people. Every field was bounded by Lombardy poplars brought by Italian immigrants who brought their Bonarda wine grapes, too. It all seemed like magic, especially after drinking the wine.
Again a grey and cold spring day, so i chose Ginestet Botrytis instead of Cabochard, because i wanted some sweet and warm smell. Even the boyfriend kind of likes it. Usually he is not very enthusiastic of scents.
Still a bit jet lagged, but not too bad. Tomorrow i will pack for my journey to London. Any suggestions for perfume shopping? Although i was very naughty today and bought a nearly full bottle of Fille en Aiguilles for 80Euros and a bargain on a bottle of SJP Covet.
I liked the Liberty flagship store–the SAs left me alone to sniff anything and everything, and they were having some fantastic sales. I also spent a lovely afternoon at Bloom near Convent Garden. Don’t miss the 6th floor at Harrod’s–I had a lovely time in the Malle section, only bought a travel spray, and the SA loaded me up with fistfuls of samples.
Going to London so soon? Wow.
Rouillier White is a worthy addition to the suggestions above. Also Sarah of 4160 Tuesdays has her shop in West London, open weekdays only.
Grandiflora Queen of the Night–lush but light. somehow. It reminds me in a way of Amouage Honour Woman, one of my favourites of that line. To me both have an “apple-y” note although neither of them has apple listed. It must emerge from the combination of white florals with some spice and fruit (citrus for QotN and rhubarb for HW). I’m going to have to try a direct side-by-side comparison sometime.
Not participating in “G”,but in K de Krizia today!
It used to remind me of No.5,but I realized today although it’s also a classic aldehyde perfume, they are not the same at all.Lovely on a weirdly cool rainy day!
Hope everyone is well and AWESOME!
Work is crazy,hence the silence!
Happy Weekend friends!!
XOX
JOHANOB!! You smell fabulous!?
Hope you had a great summer ??⚘??
It was wonderful,thanks Lillyjo!
Hope you are well?
??
Hey, my summer is coming up, so can’t complain! I reserve that for winter, lol
Hello there! I hope that you have had some time off in addition to all the work-work-work.
In Grossmith Phul-Nana, from a sample. The lovely, natural-smelling orange blossom opening has subsided, and it’s now a spicy, powdery oriental. I’d never pay retail price for it, but it is everything I like so far. Is this the perfume the dowager played by Dame Maggie Smith wore on Downton Abbey? My memory is deteriorating rapidly.
I agree. It’s very nice and growing on me. It has the vintage feel but contemporary at the same time – not sure if this makes sense. No matter what I don’t think I would pay retail, 200 something EURO? ??I found it on eBay from a trusted seller!
Nice! I looked on eBay today, and the lowest price I saw was $330 American.
The Seven Lives of Cabochard ~ Fragrance Reviews
https://www.fragrantica.com/news/The-Seven-Lives-of-Cabochard-6636.html
Found a detailed article on the various bottles of Cabochard over the years. I had asked the question earlier this week, and wanted to update with this link!
Wearing SJP Lovely, as usual, and my alternate scent be in Hermes Galop.
Very cool!
In Goutal’s Matin d’Orage today. It totally fails to work with the season, but what the heck, it’s fun!
I don’t think I get any credit for wearing Mitsouko today, but that’s okay… Nasty weather: wet and colder than necessary.
Sad because my sick big kitty is fully rejecting me, since I’ve been the one giving him meds. He won’t join me as usual at bedtime or on the couch for petting. If I walk in the room, he tries to disappear. Time for his dad to take over the meds I think.
King Lear was good, for those of you interested. I very much enjoyed Glenda Jackson’s performance. She’s a tiny little thing but was full of sharp, acerbic wit and kingly presence. I have quibbles with much of the production and direction choices but certainly am glad I went. Bonus was seeing John Waters up close as he left the theater.
Yeah, that happens to me when our boy cat needs meds. I’m generally the bad guy, but now I insist we both do it. I think a switch up is a good idea.
John Waters! That’s a treat ?
I’ve been there with the “sick kitty blues”. I went through it with Teflon when I was getting her used to her inhaler. She still sometimes does the disappearing act.
Smelling insanely wonderful in Grandiflora Queen of the Night. Busy day at work. Just a couple more hours to go!
As predicted and foreseen, we are twins again today 🙂
Hope you have a good weekend!
Grey and gloomy weather rolled in today. Bleah. I hope it doesn’t stick around for long. ☔??
Spooky kitty has improved! She is now back to eating her kibble, and is more lively. Getting her to take all the medicine might be a challenge, though… she is starting to give her bowl of wet food a serious side-eye.
SOTD = Gallivant Brooklyn EdP, from the sample stash. On me this is mostly a sweet vanilla that reminds me of cookie dough. There is a faint hint of Creamsicle Orange a couple of hours after applying, and then Pffffffffft! A faint skin scent.
Glad Spooky is doing better! Can’t say I blame her, though. Is it metronidazole? That stuff tastes especially awful.
The first time I smelled Brooklyn I also thought “creamsicle” and couldn’t understand why that would represent Brooklyn. I was disappointed (not that I don’t like creamsicles!).
Here’s hoping our weather improves!
Yes, it is metronidazole. It’s been compounded with something vanilla-ish, which works for human noses. Why didn’t they make it tuna flavored?
Right?! I have a few left from my cat and just gave it a sniff and it’s liquid smoke flavored ?
I’ve taken it for humans and it leaves a terrible metallic taste, even in pill form, that alters the taste of everything else long after you’ve taken the dose. I was on it for 2 weeks and lost my appetite because of that, but things went back to normal after a few days when I stopped taking it. So, I imagine the kitties are affected similarly.
Liquid smoke flavored medicine sounds horrible, even without the metallic aftertaste. EUGH! ?
If it’s like cookie dough, I would have a hard time not wanting to eat it!
Good news about Spooky kitty!
It’s sweet but not quite edible smelling to me, if that makes any sense.
Ha! Your description makes me want to find my sample!
I’d like to hear how Brooklyn wears on you!
I don’t know if this will work for cats, but when our elderly dog just refused to take a pill in wet food, or cheese, or thrown directly down her throat, the vet recommended hiding the pill in liverwurst. It worked for her.
Scent this morning was lavender body lotion from Crabtree & Evelyn. I’ve added a bit of Pamplelune from the swapmeet. (Thank you, Koyel!) I believe I’ve individually e-mailed the folks I received samples and decants from today. I’ll be in Baltimore tomorrow to visit with my brother and an aunt and a cousin, and see the Orioles/Yankees baseball game. Aunt and cousin live in northern New Jersey, so my cousin will probably be wearing a Yankees jersey. We’ll see how things go. 🙂
Ha! We went to one Yankees game in NY with my brother-in-law’s family and my husband wore a Mets shirt ? Hope you have fun!
Thanks! My brother has already given me a couple of hockey stories along those lines. We were born in the suburbs of NYC, but moved to the far suburbs of Philadelphia when my brother was 4 and I was 8. However, my mom’s brother was our cool uncle and a Rangers fan. His influence stuck. Thus my brother ended up wearing a NY Rangers jersey to a Flyers-Rangers game. Obviously we got out alive, but he got some dirty, dirty looks. Another time we happened to get tickets for a Flyers-Islanders game. I asked my brother which team he wanted to see win. lol He said he was sorry they couldn’t both lose!
Oops — should have been “Thank you, eschmeling” for the Pamplelune. Thank you in general to the generous NST folks who participated in the swapmeet with me. 🙂 I’m looking forward to trying more of the various perfumes. 🙂
Remind me for the freebiemeet that I still have a good number of cologne samples I’ll want to pass along.
Late to the party, as usual, but participating in the CP with Grès. I’m a member of what I’m willing to bet is a sizeable Cabochard Club.
My bottle is only a few years old—nowhere near vintage. Perhaps I’d be disappointed with it if I knew what the original formulation smelled like, but as it is, I love the current version’s dry chypre goodness.
I got my tickets yesterday for tomorrow’s Women’s WNIT Final game!? I’m so stoked! ?⬇️!
Have a great Friday afternoon/evening all y’all!
Nothing wrong with liking the current formulation of what you have!
Dang, I chatted through the comments, and didn’t log in my SOTD.
Memo Tiger’s Nest, from a generous NSTer. This is a bit peculiar, some unfamiliar notes to me, but lovely. Needs further testing…
Hiram Green “Slowdive” for partial credit. A sample from Ausliebezumduft.de and long lasting for a natural perfume. I like it but don’t need it – it might make it to the longlist and stay there forever.
Partial credits for Wed and Thu when I was too busy to post:
Wed Le Galion “Special for Gentlemen” lovely harmonious take on lavender, not sure I’ll get it but glad to have sampled.
Thu Naomi Goodsir “Bois d’Ascèse”, it’s nice but felt a bit like a toned down BeauFort London fragrance and my scent-devouring skin needs the high-octane version. ?
Both samples from Celeste Perfumes here in The Hague.
