Thursday scent of the day 3/21

Posted by Robin on 21 March 2019 209 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday! It's also National Fragrance Day and World Poetry Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I went with Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile (in Eau de Toilette), because SheriG mentioned it yesterday.

Reminder: on 3/22, celebrate the arrival of spring by wearing your favorite spring fragrance. (If it's fall where you are, you know what to do.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Iris Nobile was one of my spring week scents last year. You smell lovely, Robin.

I am wearing Pierre Balmain Jolie Madame. Violets and leather – great for early spring.

Oh Jolie Madame, how lovely, when I was on a violet quest I ended up loving SL Bois de Violette and vintage Jolie Madame the most. So now I am happy with these two and that’s enough for me.

Happy almost Friday again, wow this week has gone fast! Time always flies when I’m not at work.
I’m in Wit, which definitely smells like spring to me. This one verges just on the edge of being too sweet for me so I have to apply with a light hand. Wondering if it’s been discontinued because I don’t see it on Luckyscent anymore. ? All the other Delraes are on sale right now though fyi.
My girls filled out their brackets last night for March madness. My oldest has our team going all the way of course, but I think she is going to be disappointed. My youngest took the very unstatistical approach of ranking teams according to their mascot. Lol. There was a lot of giggling involved when she was making her picks. Let the games begin!

I ended up swapping my bottle of Wit as it reminded me too much of the citronella candles we used all summer long on our backyard porch. Feel bad as it was a gift from my husband, but he wasn’t a huge fan anyway.

Glad you are enjoying it just fine!

Thank you for the heads-up on the sale: I was thinking about getting one of the bottles from that brand but didn’t want to pay full price. When I was looking at the brand’s site recently, I noticed that most of their perfumes were marked as “sold out,” and I was wondering if they were going out of business, or were planning the re-packaging. So with this Luckyscent sale I decided not to wait any longer.

If you’re looking for Wit, here it’s still available (full price but free shipping): https://perfumarie.com/products/wit

Happy Holi & Nowruz Mulbarak to all those who celebrate..

I am feeling beautiful in Eau Rose by Dipytique
I have never been a fan of straight up florals but this sample is growing on me. I wish it had more projection & sillage though.

I am back to my normal self today after some rest last night. I have not been salsa dancing for many many years and muscles that I didn’t know existed were sore yesterday..

Mr. G says Eau Rose smells like “the best bubble bath ever”. It has decent longevity on me, but not much projection, it’s true. It’s better sprayed somewhat lavishly, imo.

I love the SF Asian Art Museum. It’s in an out of the way area of SF (between commuter buse routes), but I find it very enjoyable!
You would have loved the Kimono – it was a soft gray (lilac undertone) with cobalt iris at the hem. It was totally swoon-worthy!

Look at those beautiful irises! I am also a beautiful iris today in VCA Bois d’Iris! I had forgotten how many great spring scents I have–I know now what I will wear tomorrow :)

Last night, I went to a cocktail party with my boyfriend’s coworkers. I hadn’t met most of them, which is why I wanted to go, but I’m very bad at being social–hey, is it still introvert week? I feel it must be, because I’m feeling acutely socially exhausted. Anyway, I chose my outfit VERY CAREFULLY to look effortlessly chic (yes, my boyfriend is an engineer, but the party was also going to have a bunch of admin/business people, who all know how to dress!). I think I succeeded, if I do say so myself :)

I ended up having a really good time at the party and I really liked a lot of the people my boyfriend works with and their significant others, but I am thrilled to not have to hang out with anyone tonight :) Phew!

I’m happy to hear that you had a good time last night. I sometimes dread those kinds of events, too. But sometimes they are fun. I just can’t tell ahead of time which it will be.

PS. Got good news about Spooky kitty’s blood work yesterday after I posted. Liver, kidney, and thyroid values were all OK. There were some slightly elevated white blood cell counts, but the vet said that could be due to allergies or irritable bowel.

Inspired by Glannys to where an iris leather scent, I’m in Keiko Mecheri’s A Fleur de Peau. Every time I wear this one it smells different. I LOVED it the first time I sampled it (I mean I was this close to ordering an FB), but since then its mileage has varied. Right now it is a bit of a hot mess with sharp leather notes. So weird. So weird!

Tomorrow will likely be either Mediterraneo or Nicolai’s Fig Tea. Or Chanel 19. Or Le Temps d’Une Fete. Or Wood Sage and Sea Salt. Or … well, you get the picture. :)

Hey Twin! It’s my SOTD as well. We smell great.
I refreshed my scent about an hour ago since I could no longer smell it. One of my coworkers just commented that it smells like fresh cut grass in here. Oh well. ?

I’m wearing Eau des Merveilles today. I needed a quick pick, and it never fails me. Fragrance Day is my kind of holiday – how did I not know it exists?

I find the seasonal community projects hard, because I live in a place that doesn’t really have seasons beyond “not cold” and “stinking hot”. Yes, there are changes in the vegetation and animal life, but it’s so subtle compared to the transition between seasons when I was growing up in Canada. However, I love hearing about everyone switching their fragrance wardrobes and bringing out well-loved scents that had been safely tucked away until it’s their time to shine.

    Those irises are so beautiful.

Oh my word, just read Robin’s opening sentence & am ashamed to admit that, despite it being National Fragrance Day (though not on this side of the pond, so that’s my excuse!), I didn’t leave the house today so am not wearing fragrance! Was in town on Tuesday so did pop by l’Occitane & try Herbae, albeit on a blotter – it smelled gorgeous, but as I was hot & bothered on a spectacularly unsuccessful shopping trip, I didn’t bother to spray onto my skin, although I have to go into town to pick up a jewellery repair within the next couple of weeks, so will go to the shop again & definitely do so.

On another subject, the Ylang Ylang Espresso I picked up in the Floral Street shop in London in November is being donated to my best friend when we get together for (no doubt!) far too much wine on Saturday evening. I had so looked forward to wearing this fragrance, particularly because it’s so far from my usual choices, but after two attempts I just can’t get to grips with it at all.

    Happy National Fragrance Day!

    1) I am in Infusion d’Iris by Prada, which is just perfect on this day.

    2) Did a particularly energetic HIIT class very early this morning. I forgot how much you feel like you are being chased by pride of hungry lions in these classes! I had to shower afterwards and put on my face & scent at work because I was still throwing off sweat after toweling off!

    3) And the rain returned- which is fine! But now we have plum and cherry blossoms on the trees, which makes me happy!

Yesterday was so busy I wasn’t able to post or read posts until this morning. But I smelled amazing in Wit, and I see a couple people wearing that today. Tuesday night walking home from a concert, I could smell daphne wafting down most of the street I was on. It was intoxicating, and I just had to wear Wit the next day.

Today I wanted mimosa and chose Diptyque Essences Insensees Mimosa.

I’m wearing Aedes de Venustas, probably more of a summer scent (doesn’t rhubarb ripen in summer?) but I love it anytime. It’s a little gray and drizzly here but there are trees starting to leaf and some with pink or white flowers on them. I got woken up early by an unfamiliar noise, only to find both cats pouncing and rolling on crunchy plastic bags they had fished out of the wastebasket. Silly kitties.

Hello, I hope all is well for everyone, I’ve got several weeks’ worth of NST to catch up on. I’m still on holiday, although the return home is gettjng closer. I’m in Seville, and the smell of orange blosdom is everywhere. I’ve smelled lots of lovely flowers before, but never experienced such a pervasive scent. It’s wonderful.

I’ve been wearing Guerlain’s Neroli Outrenoir, as it seemed so appropriat. I bought it in Paris a couple of weeks ago, and did wonder if such an expensive purchase was wise, but now I’ll be able to think if Seville whenever I wear it, so a good decision after all :)

You can do an on-the-spot comparison with Seville à l’Aube!

The orange blossom was just starting in Málaga as we packed up and left for The Hague, so we will pretty much miss it this year. But we should (fingers crossed) get a blast of linden in a couple of months’ time, to compensate.

I’m wearing St. Clair Casablanca today and it smells like spring to me, probably due to the orange blossoms. Our weather is absolutely perfect today, gorgeously clear, 70 degrees, with everything brilliantly covered in new green. Only problems are (a) oak pollen!! Yikes! and (b) suspicious air quality from the big chemical factory fire of the last few days. I can’t see anything now myself, like the previous black cloud, but you just have to wonder given all the bad stuff that was burning.

That iris picture is gorgeous. I love actual iris flowers but am not attracted to the note in perfume.

“Perfume and dinosaurs” seems delightfully niche. There’s a truly excellent “cars and fashion” museum in Malaga, where models in vintage fashion (Schiaparelli, Balenciaga, Chanel, Dior etc.) are posed alongside the cars of the same era. I now have a mental image of pairing Diplodocus and Triceratops with appropriate scents…

Today I am in Annick Goutal “Encens flamboyant”, since I now have 3 perfumes instead of the none I arrived with. And it suited the day well enough, a long day of reports, PowerPoints and meetings with the scent of incense and spruce trees forming a discreet accompaniment.

Staying in a foreign country gives an opportunity to visit the local supermarkets and I am often struck by some little detail that defies the usual multinational brand conformity.
    – In France, I could not find a washing-up brush for love or money; everywhere was selling a sort of sponge with a wire handle instead;
    – In Spain, the drinking chocolate selection takes up the same amount of shelf space as the coffees selection, and the teas are often somewhere else (UK and Ireland, tea and coffee belongs together). Naturally, the cooked meats section is to die for.
    – Here in The Netherlands, along with milk and yoghurt, there are racks and racks of different flavours of “vla” – which is pretty much custard – in litre and half litre cartons and tubs of every size. And really vast amounts of mostly pretty bland cheese.
    – In the UK, you can get non-prescription meds like paracetamol and ibuprofen in the supermarket aisle; almost every other country in Europe seems to restrict them to the pharmacy.

Speaking of which, I am out of rum-and-raisin vla, so I need to go out now and find something else for dessert! :^D

I enjoyed your observations and comparisons very much, it’s a wonder how particularities survive. When I moved to the UK from New York (but I grew up in France) I was astonished at the choices of baked beans at the supermarket, not that I’m complaining.

France usually has the best *variety* of cheeses, but it’s often difficult to get a harder cheese like Cheddar or Manchego.

[suddenly remembers he has raclette in the fridge… and TOMK is off at a Laibach gig… sneaks furtively into the kitchen….]

The first time I went to France I was stunned at the enormity of the dairy section, filled with an array of every different kind of yogurt and custard imaginable.

Oh yes, I’m with you, that is mind boggling, when I go home I keep lingering in the dairy aisle, checking everything out, where I live now in the UK the choice is much more limited.

Wonderful SOTD! I also enjoyed your multinational supermarket compare & contrast.

ELDO I Am Trash, which has a lovely fruity opening, and then crashes into some woody iso E Super thing. The top notes hang in there on fabric, so I’m sniffing my sweater instead of my skin.

I struggle with this one too. In general, I find strawberry offputting in perfume, but I like it ok for the first hour, and then it starts to irritate me.

I wore Bal d’Afrique to work, but I just spritzed on some Pacifica French Lilac while running errands in Target. I haven’t decided if it’s lovely or if I want to wash it off. Quite a swing, no?

Later to the party than usual. I knew that today would be long and difficult so I wore Chanel 19 edt for strength, backbone and dignity and as usual, it helped tremendously! When I got home I found a tiny bottle of Rose Otto Attar from eBay waiting for me so of course I had to try it right away, it’s gorgeous and blends beautifully with the last of the No. 19. If anyone is interested in the oil, search Al Minar on eBay. The Makeupalley fragrance board has a crush on that line right now and while they are very well priced, collectively they’re a hit to the wallet.

Robin, I really love today’s iris photo. For some reason, I always associated irises with my father. Probably because his birthday was in late March. This Saturday would have been his 89th one.

Grey, cold, and rainy here. SOTD = Chanel 28 La Pausa EdT, from the sample stash. It works perfectly with the weather, and also suits my melancholy mood.

Jalapeno, I sat here with a bunch of stuff to say, because your post resinated with me. I think though, that I will just send a hug, and let you be with the irises and rain?

It is hard not to be melancholy in this weather, and you’ve got extra reason.

Bittersweet memories of your father, how lovely that irises remind you of him.

You must smell terrific in La Pausa. Have you been able to compare EDT versus EDP? I keep wondering about the EDPs of the Exclusive, I have a sample of Misia EDT and want to purchase a bottle someday, but keep worrying that the EDP might not be the same.

Went to work today and I’m kind of regretting it. Other people said this cough/cold combo can hang around for 3+ weeks. Ugh!

At least I’m off tomorrow so hoping that 3 days of doing nothing will help knock this down. Wearing some eau de Vicks tonight! Supposed to be sunny and warm again tomorrow so I can direct my hubby on how to prune the trees and shrubs. Can’t wait to start wearing my ‘fumes again!

Pouring rain, black clouds, dog got skunked, loved ones suffering deeply bad news – Spring has sprung a false start. Wore Mona di Orio’s Vanille and the world smelled a little better, or at least I did.
