Happy Almost-Friday and Pi Day! (What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in my last few drops of Christian Dior Midnight Poison, by Olivier Cresp (and Jacques Cavallier).
Reminder: 3/15 will be Olivier Friday...wear a fragrance by Olivier Cresp or Olivier Gillotin, if you have one. Partial credit for any other Olivier connection you can devise.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m wearing Kelly Caleche for perhaps the second time.
I love Kelly Caleche! You smell fantastic!
You smell fabulous!
Very nice !!
Which version? You smell great either way. If you like the edp, it’s worth making the slightly-uncomfortable trip to an Hermes store to try the parfum (which is heaven in a bottle). Ebay often has reasonably priced bottles, and the parfum is a smooth operator.
Co-sign on the parfum version! Besides, that itty-bitty bottle is adorable!
ooh, have never tried the parfum… I will have to
I have a mini of the edt. I haven’t tried any of the other versions. The parfum sounds interesting.
I’ve been verrry curious about the parfum! Glad to hear it has fans.
I thunked a Kelly Caleche EDP 50mL bottle several years back!
Kelly Caleche is lovely!
Angelique on the arms and Tobacco Rose on the neck. thunked this morning.
I no longer smell it so I may freshen up with Bal D”Afrique.
and I won’t have my Noa by tomorrow so no participation in the CP 🙁
Rats! I still can’t believe I gave my bottle of Noa away. It was years ago when I went through a dumb purge period of getting rid of things I liked but didn’t wear often. I learned my lesson and now only pass on things I’m sure I don’t want to wear any more.
Ooh, I went through that purge phase too. Got rid of a bottle of Shalimar eau legere! So dumb!
I am getting a huge bottle of it so if you need some hit me up…you know where to find me 🙂
Thanks ladies.
You give me justification for hoarding all my bottles of perfume…Even ones I don’t like, hoping that one of us could change…
? on hoarding bottles and hoping either the bottle or you would change
LOL
You could wear Angel, no?
I thunked Angel a LOOOOONNNGGG time ago 🙂
and the girls are coming home tomorrow…so I might wear Brigitte to see what they say…last time I wore it the eldest was only two years old 🙂
W00t W00t!
Hello all!
I’m in Dzongkha today, sweating in the “winter” humidity. It’s almost a perfect scent and I absolutely adore it.
Robin, you smell great! I have a bottle of this and everything I wear it I find it very well done.
It is a beauty! Santal 33 takes up the same psychic space in my wardrobe, but at the end of the day I prefer Dzongkha.
I prefer Dzongkha too, hands down! It’s a top 15.
You smell great too!
And serious mystery why this one didn’t take. It’s better than 90% of modern Dior.
I’d say, “More for us,” but it spiked in price when they discontinued it. I love that juicy patchouli rose opening.
Dzongkha is discontinued?? (clutches pearls) Oh no.
Oh no, Midnight Poison! Sorry I wasn’t clear!
I love Midnight Poison — I bought it the day it launched in the UK — because advertising be damned, it’s a unisex rose, which the world can never have enough of, and that bottle is killer. It really is a mystery why sales were so poor.
I am also mystified! 🙁
I have never been able to smell rose in Midnight Poison. For me, it is almost all patchouli, with a bit of bergamot.
It’s a pretty fruity rose, if that helps!
My sniffer is holding out on me! ☹
I didn’t get rose or patchouli, just fruit.
I am saving my only Gillotin for tomorrow.
Aromatics Elixir today.
Have a nice Thursday, everyone!
Such a beautiful fragrance!
You smell GLORIOUS.
Aromatics Elixir is gorgeous, you smell wonderful! I might wear that over the weekend.
Thanks for the comments! It is really an amazing scent and I always find it strangely soothing and reassuring.
I think it’s the chamomile/herbal notes that are so comforting. I like the eau de toilette version, it’s slightly less herbal and more patchouli-forward.
I wish they still made the body cream, it was delightful!
One of the BEST scents ever ever ever…..The only back-up bottle I have, along with the body lotion! 🙂
In Kenzo Amour by Olivier Gillotine. I have not worn it in a long time. A pleasure to revisit it and find out that it is still a perfume I truly love!
That was the bottle that got away…it was on my mental list but never got around to it…you smell delicious 🙂
Thank you! ?
I’ve got a decant of that somewhere – I’ll need to dig it out for tomorrow. My favorite Kenzo is the Le Parfum version of Amour (in the gold bottle). Just a dab’ll do ya.
I have never tried Le Parfum version, but I can imagine it is beautiful. My favorite Kenzo is the discontinued Flower Oriental. I am hoarding the last drops I have in my bottle.
I have an almost full bottle that I don’t use – wanna swap for it at the upcoming meet?
Thank you Elisa D, it is very nice of you to offer, but I am fine with whatever I have left. Trying to reduce my huge perfume collection these days ? .
That is so awesome to discover that one of your old perfume loves is still very much loved!
So many neglected perfumes that I have totally forgotten I still love.
After a Rodrigo day yesterday I’m doing Jean Paul today. My SOTD is Chant d’Arômes which is one of my favourites of his. There is a sad lack of Oliviers in my collection so I’ll have to think of a more indirect Olivier connection.
Tea is MF Parzival, which I wasn’t quite sure about initially but that is growing on me. MF is brilliant at flavoured teas.
Chant d’Aromes is beautiful !
house/perfumer twins! I love the name Chant d’Aromes….not sure I “need” it, on the other hand, I don’t “need” any perfume at all 😉
what would you most closely compare it to?
I “needed” it as soon as I had smelled it 😉
I can’t think of what I would compare it too. It’s a peachy floral on a mossy base, so the drydown is ever so slightly bitter. It’s very much a Guerlain but not as big as some of the others. It’s very lovely.
Going through a sample pack of Kerosene scents I found. Today I’m trying Canfield Cedar.
I’m interested if you find a favorite and what you think of the one’s you sample.
I’m interested in your favs, too.
The Canfield Cedar is very pleasant, but it’s pretty much just cedar and projection is very low.
VC&A Bois d’Iris again today because it is just that good.
Looking forward to some pie with lunch in honor of Pi day.
That’s the best pi(e)!!
You smell so good!
It’s so lovely and subtle.
Ha ha, I went to Trader Joe’s today for a few things and at their “concession stand” where they give out tastes, they had pumpkin pie! I was wondering why but now I know. It’s something I don’t ever think of outside of the holiday season but theirs is actually very delicious! It went nicely with their free Bolivian coffee sample, too.
Timbuktu.
Used up a decant from the last swapmeet, and forgot how much I loved this one back in the day. Trolling for a bottle on ebay now!
Hope you find one for a reasonable price.
You smell great SarahN!
I have seen some bottles of Timbuktu going for a very reasonable sum on Fragrancenet, especially with the 35 – 37% coupons that can be had.
Still in love with BDK Rouge smoking, even though the description is a bit hookeresque….
The description at Harrods is pretty low-key, but it must be worse elsewhere!
This has been a long and brutish winter and by god I am going to will spring into existence by any means necessary, which today means the bright-green and licorice-accented Anisia Bella. I don’t *love* it, and I really have to be in the mood for it, but today it’s perfection.
That’s one good AA, the more recent releases are less interesting. Anisia Bella is so refreshing in summer.
Yum, I must wear that soon.
Hello NST, it’s been a hot minute…the past month has seen family drama, a family wedding, a fun vacation, and a big deadline at work. I’m finally clearing my way out of it all, and happy to sniff again.
Wearing Bottega Veneta on a spring day, and wondering what I’ll do for an Olivier tomorrow…
Hope you are all well!
Wow, you’ve been busy! You smell great today 🙂
Whew! What a month! You smell lovely- and keep on keeping on!
Sounds like good busy (except for the family drama)?
You do, indeed, smell wonderful!
Welcome back!
Received my bottle of Allure edt from the eBay sale the other day. I’ve been trying to cobble a couple things together to make an Allure-adjacent scent that would scratch that itch rather than buying a bottle but I’m so glad I caved, I’d forgotten how much I love it. I’m all set for spring.
And Robin, you smell lovely! I swapped away a mini of Midnight Poison years ago and have regretted it ever since.
I regret I never even got the mini! I have managed to keep myself in samples for some time but this is probably the last.
Hello all!
1) I just want you to know that my family has no famous connections nor fortune, and I got into my certificate program the old fashioned way- by begging and paying.
2) II am in Florentina, by Delcourte; I am gonna get that one as my musk, and I think Vanori will be my vanilla from the collection.
That must be embarrassing for people who didn’t know.
You smell lovely.
Yes! The irony of it all is that these kids would have been just fine at a Ye Olde Liberal Arts College in Somewhere Minnesota or in the case of teh actress daughter just setting her up in an apartment in NYC or Paris and have her go to finishing school. But committing mail fraud? How do you live that down as the kid in question????
Ha! Glad that’s been clarified ?
LOL! For this certificate I could have put another down payment on a studio!
That bribery story has me and most of my (professor) friends just steaming. We all teach in a working-class university with lots of children of immigrants who typically are older and often work full-time while going to school. Many are extremely bright but haven’t had the advantages of good schools, money, travel, internships, tutoring for the SAT’s, etc. Grrrrr.
Similar here – I’m a professor at a tiny community college in the middle of nowhere, and most of my students can hardly afford our relatively cheap tuition.
Community college is so valuable and really helps so many people open the doors to careers OR help them narrow down a path of academic inquiry!
I have take classes at community college in French, in theater design and production, in fashion design. All valauble, all things I have used and shared.
Yeah- it has nothing to do with the professors and TAs that make universities go, nor the vast majority of students. This was all about flexing, bragging rights and having rich mediocre people rub shoulders with other rich mediocre people. Bah!
HA!!! good one.
Could you please explain what happened? Has some bribery scandal happened in the US?
Yes. Rich people including some Hollywood figures bribing staff people, mainly coaches, to get their kids into elite schools. I hope this doesn’t violate our no-politics rule. Here’s a link: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_college_admissions_bribery_scandal
Thanks!
I am wearing Acqua di Parma Magnolia Nobile, listening to Some Like It Hot by The Power Station and drinking a cup of orange bliss tea. I should’ve worn something from the 80s for my music selection this morning 🙂
You smell lovely and lady-like!
Love that song, with the late great Mr Palmer.
I was just ruminating about Robert Palmer a week or two ago. What sartorial acumen he had! And really, just an old school nice guy.
Not to mention a really good singer. I love his rendition of Mercy Me.
You smell so wonderful! I ❤️ MN!
SOTD is J.Crew No. 57 by Arquiste.
I love Midnight Poison – it’s glorious stuff, you smell great Robin!
Hey SmokeyToes! Thanks for the recommendations and the reminder about sunscreen!
You’re welcome! 😀
I didn’t get a chance to head to FL this year, have lots of fun & games for me!
Finally sampling Tiger’s Nest (thanks AnnE!) and I’m finding it very calming. Jessica referred to it as meditative in her review, and I agree. Waiting to see how long it lasts on me before making a verdict but so far so good. I’ll be stashing the samples away for stressful work days.
That’s a nice one.
I think I’ll be getting mine soon from the recent split meet, and am happy to hear this–lots of positive reviews of it!
I’m not too far behind the trend, for once, haha. Hope you like it when it arrives!
Coin op mentioned Rose de Siwa recently which reminded me that I need to wear it. Such a great scent and I’m hoping that I smell like spring even though we have more snow on the ground now than we had most of this winter. I am willing it to melt but the snow banks stubbornly refuse to go away.
I went to stew and story last night at a local historic inn with a friend. The readers were retired college professors. So fun!
Such a lovely and gentle rose. We’ve been blessed with a very mild winter, although the last week or so has been incredibly wet and windy. No hurricanes or blizzards, just good old storms.
I hope your snow starts melting soon!
RdS is one of my spring favorites. The snow is melting. Just not fast enough to suit me. We’ve had warmer temps for several days now and it feels like it should be gone by now. Hope your weather clears soon. I guess we’re impatient for spring. ?
You smell loverly today and hope you’reable to will warmer weather in! Glad you had a nice evening, sounds fun ?
Thanks dear! I’ve never even heard of your SOTD but I am sure you are smelling great!
I heard another storm may be brewing for early next week. Ugh…
I have been to Siwa in Egypt (didnt see many roses though but lots of salt blocks and olive trees) so I am curious about this one just for the name
I get pink roses on a light woody base with violets, and yes, there is musk. Elisa P. may be able to add to this since she has a better nose than I do.
Rose de Siwa smells like the prettiest pink roses ever! I should remember that one for a gloomy day pick-me-up. ?
Unintentional laying this sleepy morning–Azemour Les Orangers and Coco. This Coco is an edp from about four years ago, and so not surprisingly the Azemour is prevailing. Not unpleasant together thank goodness!
Just here to say that I’m wearing Esprit D’Oscar for the first time and it’s delightful! Thank you for introducing me to it via the split meet. I will be looking for a good deal on an FB in the soons. Enabler pin awarded!
aaand… I just ordered the FB. How could I not? At $30 with shipping it’s basically free!
yay! I’m enjoying mine too. And I think it’s a very pretty bottle too, if you’re into that sort of thing, which I am 😉
I’m enjoying it too! Very pretty for spring. Come on spring!
I know. Easy peasy pretty. Yay!
Séville à l’Aube for me today! So happy in this right now.
And.. happy for warmer temps. 🙂
Mmmm… you smell nice!
Thank you, Luna Green!
I’ve been thinking about this one lately. I’ll wear it sometime in the next two weeks since I think it will fit either CP!
I thought I had found an Olivier in an old Yves Rocher mini (Comme Une Evidence) but I double checked and it’s by Annick Menardo. Wearing it anyway!
I see you’ve emerged from Snowmaggedon or whatever it was called!
Barely! The power was out in our kitchen for 8 hours yesterday, and we had no hot water … like camping, but less fun!
I think I’m in Olivier Cresp’s Rochas Femme, but I’m not really sure what year my decant is from. I know it’s parfum de toilette concentration. Anyway, I appreciate Femme but have decided after multiple attempts that it’s not for me. It feels like it wears me rather than the other way.
My elbow is slowly feeling better. I managed not to sleep on it last night, but I also got a bad night’s asleep due to the elbow and my dinner not agreeing with me. My stomach still isn’t feeling great so I may duck out of work a little early if it’s not better this afternoon. Thanks for all the nice comments yesterday!
I hope you feel better! What happened to your elbow?
I like Femme, but ended up rehoming my bottle for pretty much the same reason.
Oh just some nasty tennis elbow going on. I need to make some lifestyle and posture changes, plus I got banged around at a concert the other night.
Ouch! Do take care and no more mosh pit!
OOO I have a mini of Femme but not sure of the year…I don’t think I want to wear it tomorrow though.
Yeah initially I wasn’t sure I’d be in the mood to wear Femme today, but I went for it anyway. It’s treating me just fine, but I’ll definitely wear something different this evening.
If it’s parfum de toilette it’s the old version by Edmond, you smell great in any case, sometimes it’s good to be worn 🙂
That’s kind of what I was thinking because I don’t smell any cumin in what I’m wearing. Thanks for confirming! I am enjoying the little wafts I get through my long sleeve buttoned all the way to the top blouse.
My mother is having gum surgery today and my dad took her down while I manage two I’ll behaved Labs. Woke up super late today while wafting the dry down of vintage BaV. Should I stay in vintage BaV or try Cuir Beluga today? Or go with Nuda today?
Vintage BaV is gorgeous. Although, I’m sure many here would vote for the other choices.
I vote for Cuir Beluga!
Me too! I need to wear CB again soon.
OJ Champaca sample today. Having a little trouble following the CP, but it’s all good. Feeling more like spring here, so I’m happy.
same here on the CP AND being happy about slightly warmer weather 🙂
You smell wonderful! I’m having a hart time too, I get my Oliviers and Michels mixed up.
Inspired by Robin, I wore Marni today, but because I was decanting Memo Tiger’s Nest yesterday, I thought Inwould layer them and I did. Marni, however, did not stand a chance with Tiger’s Nest. It pretty much disappeared as soon as I applied Tiger’s Nest!
For anyone else thinking of splitting Tiger’s Nest or any other Memo Paris perfume, be forewarned that the sprayer is not very decant-friendly.
Something called Tiger’s Nest *ought* to win that battle, so glad it did!
Ha! You are absolutely right!
twins today. 🙂
Fistbump ?
Hello from Lisbon! I haven’t managed to keep up with NST at all while I’ve been on holiday for the last couple of weeks, so I’ve got lots of reading to do. I spent rather a lot of money on perfume in Paris. It was planned, but still added up to a scary amount, and my next confession to Donatella will be lengthy. I’m travelling with my sister-in-law, who has also made lots of perfume purchases.
We visited the Dusita boutique and had the loveliest experience. We were welcomed by the owner, Pissara Umavujani, who offered us tea and coffee, and showed us all her perfumes. I was quite star-struck 🙂 I bought Le Sillage Blanc, which was on my list, and my sister-in-law bought Erawan. Pissara gave us samples of everything, and she wrote us both personal thank you cards. We were the only customers, and must have been there for well over half an hour.
We had really good customer service everywhere, and knowledgeable sales assistants, now I just need to save enough money to visit Paris again!
Sounds like a wonderful experience! I haven’t smelled Le Sillage Blanc but I love Erawan. Enjoy your smelly souveniers!
your trip sounds so lovely! I look forward to hearing more about Le Sillage Blanc as you enjoy it!
Wow amazing! Enjoy libson
That sounds like the perfect perfume purchasing experience. One day, I’ll make it to some Parisian perfume shops…in the meantime, I love hearing other people’s stories, thanks for sharing!
How wonderful! I need to get back to Paris, it’s been nearly 10 years and so much has changed on the perfume scene.
Le sillage blanc and Erawan, wow great choices. Enjoy Lisbon.
Sounds like a great trip so far! Enjoy Lisbon.
How wonderful! I love to read about people’s experiences like this. Have a great rest of your trip!
Oh how lovely; thanks for sharing your trip with us <3 Can't wait to see your Donatella list! Enjoy Lisbon!
I enjoyed that story also. 🙂 It sounds like you’re sticking with what you’d planned to get in Paris, and like the perfume shopping has been fun for you. 🙂
I’m wearing Jaipur, which smells like peaches and cream and sandlewood with a big fat red rose in the middle. Sophia Grosjman is truly the queen of fruity florals, and I wish more of her bombastic style was around these days.
Fruity florals are generally not my thing, but that sounds absolutely fabulous.
Oh you smell delicious, I quite recently acquired Jaipur.
She does seem like the Queen of peachy roses. How does it compare to YSL Yvresse or Nahema, if you have compared them?
I would say more like Nahema than Yvresse. The peach in Yvresse is fizzy and a little green, with a herbal aspect that always makes it smell like the best fruity wine ever. I would call Jaipur less gourmand than that, and more floral. Though not quite as floral as Nahema, which appears to me to be rose-peach more than peach-rose.
it sounds wonderful!
SOTD is Majda Bekkali J’ai Fait un Rêve Claire from a sample. It’s quite nice but maybe a little too sweet for me. It’s a soft lightly powdery and woody white floral melange- reminds me a little of a woodier Opardu with a hint of spice.
Oh, and meant to add my adoration of a new-to-me hair product: R+Co Dallas thickening spray. I loooove the smell which is probably supposed to be cedar with a hint of fig or something. And it actually does what it says it does (unlike their thickeningmousse)!
Oh, tell more about that thickening spray! Do you have to use it with a dryer, or is it spritz and go?
I’ve been mostly drying it because, winter, but I actually only dry my crown/roots and mostly leaving the rest. And I mean like 3 minutes of drying. Not sure if not drying it at all will result in crunchy hair. I’ve also used it on dry hair the next day for added texture. Plus I really just like the smell!
I meant to comment this morning, but there have been so many fires to put out. Little fires everywhere. (Good book, btw.) Anyway, at least I’m working from home because I’m being a responsible adult and taking my health seriously and going to the doctor this afternoon. I really love working from home. I shouldn’t have gone into a lab-based career 🙂
HAPPY PI DAY!!!! We got a really delicious-looking blackberry lime pie at Whole Foods yesterday and I can’t wait to eat it. YUM.
OMG you all, this morning I learned that one of the digits of pi that I thought I knew was WRONG. I’ve known it wrong for like 15 YEARS. It’s really thrown me for an existential loop.
whoaaaaaa the universe must rearrange itself!
You mock; I understand. But who even AM I with that level of error?? No circles fit anymore.
Doesn’t it depend a little where the digit is? If you thought Pi started with 4 and have been wondering why people celebrate in March…that’s one thing. But if it’s the 13th digit – that still puts you way up ahead of the crowd 🙂
Well, it was the seventh, but that’s nearly as bad as the first in the nerdy circles in which I move!
Well, at least it wasn’t your social security number you memorized was wrong. Now that would be a real problem. Enjoy your pie!
Hahaha thanks for making me laugh 🙂
I’ve seen some science nerds react to finding they were incorrect on a certain point, so I have a secondhand understanding of your existential angst here. Life will go on, and your schema will be rearranged a little towards more correctness.
Enjoy that pie!! It sounds GOOD.
It does! I’ll report back after tasting!
That pie sounds yummy!
I will let you know tomorrow if it was as tasty as it looks/sounds!
Yum! I’m sadly missing out on having any pie today.
BUT WHY?! If possible, consider rectifying. You can have an approximate pi day over the weekend!
Ok I might be able to fit it in tonight because I think my boyfriend and I are walking to pick up some healthy dinner because we’ve been eating a lot of heavy food lately. I’ll be getting the tastiest vegan sandwich I’ve every had – za’atar smashed chickpea with shredded beets, avocado, cucumber, pickled red onion, lemon harissa tahini and farm greens. In between our apartment and the healthy restaurant is Pie Bar. It’s a bar that also serves pie AND they have a walk up window for ordering pie to go. I should be able to talk the bf into it. ?
Good for you!!! I had a very healthy lunch too in preparation 🙂
Also missing out on pie today, but rather liking the idea of approximating it on the weekend. That could work out rather well.
OMG and here I was wondering why no one had mentioned how nice I smell. I’m wearing Plum Japonais because I got distracted in my hunt for Tobacco Vanille! I smell really nice!
Koyel, part of getting older is the realization that what you were once sure of turned out to be false! Lol
That said, edible pie always remains delicious ?
Hahaha getting older is HARD!
That pie sounds delectable and I hope it is the antidote to your existential crisis (pi-pie= everything-is-fine-again ?).
Hahaha thanks. I think it will be!
Koyel, you crack me up. You will never be able to break your no buy if you eat pie lol ?????
A life without pie is not a life worth living for me. It is possible to be healthy AND consume pie occasionally, and it’s important to me to find balance. I’d rather have pie on pi day and have an extra week of no-buy.
You are absolutely right..it really is all about balance. And on that note I am currently enjoying a slice of apple pie with koenigsberg’s apfel tea 🙂
You can never go wrong with apple pie. I’ve got to say, when we were picking pies, the apple pie looked pretty gooey and tempting. Glad you’re enjoying your slice! Someday, I dream of sitting down with a whole pie, starting in the center, and seeing how much of it I enjoy eating in one sitting.
Blackberries and lime are a delicious combination that I can vouch for!
Oh good, it sure sounds great!
I had Apple Pi today!
I’m in Hermes Myrrhe Eglantine today and I liked it more than the last time. Interesting…
Either you or the perfume changed!
I was intending to carry on with the CP but it turns out that the Angel I’m wearing Garden of Stars: La Violette is by Francoise Caron, oh well it still smells good and very violetty.
Robin you smell superb, I love the almost medicinal patchouli in MP.
I totally missed the Garden of Stars Angels when they came out. Then again, I was not at all a fan of Angel the first time I smelled it.
The Garden of Stars I have bottles of, rose and violette have their own distinct personalities, they resemble Angel in that they’re long lasting but different enough. You know, where I am in the UK samples of them are still reasonably priced on eBay. Another interesting Thierry Mugler series the miroir ones which now cost much less than when they were introduced.
Maybe that’s exactly why it didn’t catch on…the patch is too patch-like for modern tastes? I mean, it’s no Angel (ha) but maybe Dior’s market is considerably different.
You might well be right Robin.
Lonesome Rider, so good!
You smell great!
I’m in Mazzolari Lui today from a dabber sample. I just sent off a bunch of samples and don’t want them piling up again, so I was planning using up the whole sample, but thankfully I did NOT!
If you like skank, try this one out. I have a pretty high tolerance for it, but at one point about 10 minutes after application, I can honestly say I smelled like a cesspool! ?
Thankfully, it’s continuing to develop, and it’s actually quite pretty right now.
From cesspool to sublime- my kind of scent. Happy Almost Friday Day all! ✌?
On a different note, have you tried Guerlain Lui? I finally got to try it, and it’s very very nice.
I saw that on fragrance net the other day.
No, I have limited access to Guerlain, Dior, and Chanel because they aren’t readily available in sample dabbers ?
Oooof, cesspool is getting into some SERIOUSLY skanky territory.
Indeed! But happy to report it’s very lovely after the cesspool part??
“From cesspool to sublime” ? That’s some seriously good potential ad copy right there!
I smelled this on a guy once and it truly was sublime.
Vol de Nuit Evasion today. Powdery peach, soft, lovely, and very Guerlain. ❤️
Hello all and thank you for the kind notes and encouragement after I posted about my plumbing problem and astronomical repair estimate yesterday. I’m looking into alternative plumbers to get more bids. My SOTD is Nez a Nez Bal Musque since it’s warm, sweet, musky, and spicy and I don’t need to look out for anyone around me, just spending the day at home reading and (I hope) writing and (maybe) grading. This one is potent and probably the only scent I have tried with licorice that I really like.
Good luck Calypso!
Failing the CP, but celebrating spring like weather in Chamade!
Koyel gave me a sample of Champagne by Germaine Monteil, and I love it. But do I really want to hunt down a hard to find vintage, not really. But I would like to find something similar – any ideas?
I’d describe it as a musty floral, a little sweet. I don’t get any aldehydes from it. It doesn’t say it has oakmoss in it, but something is musty and I like what it is, whatever it is.
Has Fragrantica offered any suggestions for a Champagne smell-alike?
Divine Decadence (I don’t smell the resemblance) and Maroc long lost perfume – also discontinued 🙁
Drat, that doesn’t sound very helpful at all.
If cm8 reads this, she might know a similar perfume to Maroc. Her and I both wore it, it was gorgeous but her memory is better than mine.
Divine Decadence doesn’t smell anything like vintage anything..
Yep, agree with that!
Have you tried modern Yvresse? I didn’t find it *that* much different than vintage versions.
I think I remember Badgley Mischka edp reminding me a little of Champagne/Yvresse.
Not yet, but that’s on the list & thanks for the Badgley M lead!
Last night one of my bosses informed me that one of my other bosses didn’t like me (boo hoo) so today I’m wearing 6 sprays of Angel because I don’t like either one of them, lol
Plus I’m cp appropriate ?
Hahaha! There’s no other solution! Seriously though, I’m finding it so hard to imagine how anyone could find you dislikeable, lillyjo 🙂
Wow. They sound really unprofessional. Angel is the best revenge ?
Ditto this! Lillyjo, is your boss 13? ?
My thoughts, better expressed by you!
Wow, that is ridiculous. +1 To all comments above.
That will show them!
OMG Really??? Whattda….
LOL!! I like your spirit lillyjo!
That was a nasty, passive-aggressive thing your boss did. I have a few other choice words for that, but I am pretty sure that they are NOT NST-safe. Let ’em have it via Angel!
Wow! I am very upset about it! That is such an unprofessional and harassing attitute. Next time, please wear at least 12 sprays of Angel.
Yesssss!!! High five on that Angel!
Hey, thanks to all of you for being offended for me. This particular supervisor is in her mid forties, but acts very immature, and can be down right mean. She loves to try and turn people against each other. Doesn’t really work with me though, cause I just don’t care if I’m liked. I just want my work to speak for itself.
The fact that you don’t care if she likes you is probably driving her nuts!
I think we’re going to slice of a bit of the ozone layer tomorrow with Angel!
What the what? I have absolutely no words; well maybe a few.
Extremely unprofessional and almost bullying in my mind. Do you have an HR department that you can go to? Just to have it on record.
Oh, and maybe go with your most powerful fragrance like Aromatics Elixir or Poison. You get the idea!
Just topped off with a spritz of MCG Hanbury, to defend myself against my least favorite hour of the workday: 3pm. For some reason this hour always seems to drag on longer than the rest.
Hanbury sounds like the perfect weapon for that! (At least, would help you daydream until 4 pm)
I just doused myself in Nahema.
I am on vacation, I got a Flu shot (usually I pass on this but we are in Florida this year and I figured it was the prudent course of action against the flock of snowbirds) WAYYY before we left.
My hubby came down with the Flu, then I did too.
I am SO miserable.
Atleast I have my samples from our split meet arriving to help cheer me up-
plus you all are so entertaining!!!
I hope you’ll feel better soon! We have one down with the flu or flush symptoms in the house…
Good luck Eschmeling!! I hope that you can steer clear.
Just goes to show the flu shot is useless. I never get the shot.
I disagree. And so does science?
Well, they say it is aggregate. And one inoculation after a year of not being inoculated lowers its efficacy (also, this year the soup just wasn’t as good a fit with the virus as in previous years). With an immune compromised child in the house we are religious about our vaccinations. That said, said child got the whooping cough even after a steady and detailed diet of vaccines!
Yikes! That’s scary re: whooping cough.
Oh My! That’s a scary one!
Also, a lot of people label any infectious-type syndrome “the flu” without actually having been tested for actual Influenza. A host of viruses can feel like influenza but aren’t. And no vaccine is 100% effective. Effective enough to not have pandemics, though! (I think we take that for granted in our first little world).
And its bummer your son was one of the unfortunate ones, but glad it hasn’t stopped you from vaccinating!
……well (gulp) that would be Me.
I “should” get a flu shot, but I am a total coward when it comes to needles. I’d rather take my chances with the viruses.
The flu can and has killed healthy young adults. Just sayin’
True and people deciding not to get vaccinated or vaccinate their kids reduces herd immunity. So even if the average person will just feel miserable, they can spread it to someone compromised who might actually die from it. I think people tend to forget the communal aspect.
Amen to that.
Here’s a quick blurb.

The shot is not painful. Don’t look, and ask the person administering it to give you a good pinch while it’s injected. All you will feel is the pinch, I promise. ?
Everyday I get later and later getting over here…… 🙂
Wearing Power Ballad by Room 1015. Love this stuff. This fragrance is the type of weird niche smell that keeps me fascinated with scent. I smell fruits, but can’t identify what they are or where I’ve smelled them before. I definitely get the chewing gum vibe though. FUN STUFF!
Such a great name.
Late to the party!
Bois d’Encens by Armani
Last sprays from a sample.
Oh and thanks everyone for the kind words yesterday.
And I am sorry to hear/read about too many other people here feeling stressed out. Take care and lets hope we all will feel better soon.
Missed your comment yesterday. Life can be awful, glad to hear that your manager was helpful. Isn’t Bois d’Encens wonderful when you are feeling stressed?
It’s spring here today so I chose Apres l’Ondee. It’s lasting longer than usual which is a nice bonus.
Apres l’Ondee is so pretty!
Also late to the party.
Nasty wet spring blizzard in my part of the world. Decided on Sheseido FdB. Dipped into my vintage bean.
Sorry about your blizzard, but of course you smell great, and that was such a cool bottle!
70 degrees F here today. What’s the catch? This is so NOT normal winter weather. Is Mother Nature planning some horrible bait & switch? Oh well, I’ll enjoy it while it lasts. ???
SOTD = back in Oeillet Louis XV EdP. It was so nice yesterday that I wanted a repeat. Carnations might be a 4-season note for my nose. I’m not sure I’ve ever paid attention to that before. ?
Jelly of your warm temps. It does seem unusually warm for March.
I’m hoping that there isn’t a huge crash in temps in the next few days. I’ve had enough of that particular roller coaster!
Send your 70 here. We were in the upper 50’s. Very beautiful and pleasant outside!
I thought it was a mistake the first time I saw that temp. But I checked another source and saw the same thing. Maybe you will get higher temps tomorrow?
60 for tomorrow, but very rainy.
Beautiful here too! I actually dusted off my bike to see if I still remembered how to ride. I’m hoping we don’t have to pay the piper by facing blizzard-like conditions in the next week or two…
I’m thinking that too much warm weather early on might result in a truly nasty pollen season here. That happened not too long ago, and it was miserable.
It was in the sixties here today, but rain and nasty wind. I think we go back to thirties and forties for the week, but dry.
Rain is in the forecast here for the overnight hours and tomorrow. Not sure about wind.
Juniper Sling in the morning, then some Tauer Rose Flash, which was too fruity und Sweet for my liking. Bought a Vintage Coco from ebay, but i Think the bottle is vintage, but the Juice is fake…11€lost. But a pretty Splash bottle it is..
Shalimar again. I’m enjoying my week of it. I need to figure out what samples/decants I’m going to take to NY with me, though.
It’s been a crazy week at work. Just trying to get through it so I can go on vacation. Ugh.
Be sure to take into account perfume sniffing in NYC! That could change your numbers somewhat. ?
I meant to say, Robin, that is a fantastic image for today’s post!
That person has a whole bunch of pi images, check them out! It’s the second time I’ve used one of them on pi day.
Commando on perfume earlier in the day. Trying the Atelier Pacific Lime cologne this evening. I get some lime and quite a bit of eucalyptus from it.
Mom and I went for a walk in a local park this afternoon to enjoy a day of very nice weather. We haven’t had very nice weather here in quite some time. It was clear out, and I think the temperature was in the 60s F.
Almost forgot — we’d gone grocery shopping in the morning, and I got a pumpkin pie in honor of Pi day. The sale price? $3.14, of course. The pie itself? Yummy.
I still need to sniff that atelier. It sounds really refreshing.
In my layperson’s version of what “fresh” means, I thought it smelled fresh. The eucalyptus wasn’t at a sinus-clearing strength, but if you like eucalyptus, it’s very definitely there. I enjoyed the lime aspect. For those who enjoy more of a bracing scent than a sweet scent, I’d recommend a sniff. 🙂
Waving – thanks for the enabler pin yesterday!
You’re very welcome. 🙂
Sprayed myself with Vol d’Nuit edt tonight. It was a reward for making it through the week so far ?.
Robin, i bet you smell absolutely lovely. I have not tried Midnight Poison but I’m still a fan of the original.
Midnight Poison is worth trying if you can find a sample.
All the Poison flankers are very different from the original…I still like Hypnotic the best, but this one was darned good.
