It's Friday and National Hippo Day. Plus, happy Flag Day, Canada! Our community project for today: wear a natural perfume, if you have one. Thanks to chocolatemarzipan8 for the suggestion!
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
Me: on vacation, day 8. If I were not on vacation, I'd be in Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Les Fruits Défendus, Volume 1: Bakul Medjool. As it is, I am commando again, so zero points for me.
Reminder: on 2/22 we'll celebrate Margarita Day. Wear a fragrance with lime or salt or both.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

TGIF. We have blue skies, sun and currently 2 degrees. I’ll take two out of the three.?
I’m in Olivine Atelier Gigi perfume oil. This line is the closest I’ve got to natural perfumes. This is their biggest seller and it is yummy.
It’s better than 0 out of 3!
Lol. It is! I can better cope with the bitter cold when the sun is in the sky. I have noticed as I am getting older what a profound effect the sun, or lack there of, has on my psyche.
I hope YOU are soaking up the rays and enjoying your vacation Robin!?
Thank you! I fully agree with winters getting harder as I get older.
We have had the most spectacular weather…I am in full shade much of the time that I’m sitting on the beach and I’m still tanning.
Sun twin!?
And what a gr8 theme for the CP….I will
learn much today.
I hear you will be sending me sun tomorrow! ?? enjoy!
You know I always try to send the good weather your way!??
Woot woot! Blue skies and sunshine!
I know! It is SUCH a mood lifter!?
*Wait* 2 Degrees? Is that a typo??
Haha, no my friend, you read that correctly. We are up to a balmy 5 now though.?
Balmy…. ?
We have to keep a sense of humor about these things, right??
5 degrees? Break out the swimsuits and fruity cocktails, it’s a heat wave! 😀
It all sounds quite reasonable until I remember you are talking Fahrenheit. :^O
We had the equivalent of the conversion yesterday actually! That’s what’s so crazy about it, the temps can fluctuate so much this time of year.
Hey madtowngirl, I don’t think you saw a couple days ago that I offered you my Vanilla Hinoki decant. Let me know if you’d like it, and I’ll send it to you next week.
Oh, I meant to get back to you! I did see, but the thread was full and then the last couple of days I got busy at work, so…I wanted to thank you for the kind offer but I am going to pass, that one has been kind of hit or miss for me too. Thank you anyway!!
?
Yay for blue skies and sun! But YUCK, ICK, and BLETCH for single digit temps!
The sun stayed out all day! It was so nice, and we did make it all the way to 17 after all. Spring is right around the corner, right?!????
Yep! ?????
Friday!! I’m in Pacifica Sandalwood. There was a discussion here earlier this week about whether Pacifica fragrances are really all-natural. I’m going to say yes, just for the sake of the CP 🙂
They definitely leave out some chemicals that people worry about, but I do not think they promise they are not using any synthetic aromachemicals. I am only pointing that out in case anybody wants to be sure they are getting an all-natural perfume — the CP point system is “fluid” and you are welcome to your points 🙂
Ah, that makes sense! Thanks for clarifying.
Hey, Canada! I’ll be seeing you soon! ?
I pressed repeat, wearing SB Gypsy again. Today is my Monday, mores the pity! For all you M-F folks, happy Friday!
Canada!? For work or fun?
Oh, just listened to the radio news. Sorry
Hope your work weekend goes quickly!
I slipped and fell in my driveway this morning, flat on my back, and hitting my head. I lay there thinking, is this how it ends, old man winter?!, your Polar Vortex didn’t kill me, your back to back to back ice and snow storms didn’t work. I was done in by my own stupidity of not wearing my winter boots! Somehow, I managed to get back on my feet, I felt like Rocky! Lol
Yo Adrienne! I’m going to get chocolate and I’m wearing No.19!
Happy FriYay everyone ????????
Oooooh dear! Sounds like a nasty fall. If you feel nauseous or sleepy go to the doc, head impacts can be an issue. You may be sore tomorrow. Take care of yourself, etc your kitty or doggie if you have one.
19 and chocolate sounds like the ticket. You may be banged up but you can still be elegant!
This happened at 6 this morning. My original plan was to go back to sleep, but I remembered that your not supposed to do that. I did an ice pack for a good 3 hours and the swelling has gone down. But will keep an eye on it.
Ok good. Take it easy today if you can.
Oh no! I am glad to hear you are ok. I hope you don’t feel sore later on. And I hope this endless winter doesn’t bring more nasty accidents anymore. I am done with it! Please, take care of yourself! You smell terrific! I am sure some chocolates will make you forget about that fall. ?????
Thank you Pl67 ????????
Ouch, so sorry to hear about your fall, hopefully you won’t have any lingering effects!
I hope I don’t either especially since I’m out of sick days.
chocolate + No 19 = WIN.
you go, girl!
Thanks!
Ouch! Take it easy and smell good while you do. No. 19!!
I am, thanks!
Happy to hear that old man winter hasn’t done you in yet!! 😉
I had a bad fall a few winters ago, also while wearing weather-inappropriate footwear. You smell great! Stick it to winter!
?
So glad you’re okay! Chocolate and No 19 is the perfect combo!
Thank you!
Oh no! I hope you are okay! I haven’t been out yet today but I’m sure we have a layer of ice on everything too. We were over 40 yesterday, now single digits today.?
Take care of yourself!
It’s the sneaky kind of ice, just a thin glaze. I never saw it coming.
Yep- I know just the kind you mean. I hate it when I hit a patch of that while driving. Makes me instantly feel panicked.?
Ouch! Be careful! I hope spring hurries up and kicks old man winter out of your neighborhood.
Me too!
Yikes and ouch. Please be extra careful. Smelling good and ready to take on the world, one chocolate at a time!
I snagged chocolate cupcakes half off!
Nice! Let’s see if there’s any chocolates left at Target tomorrow. I got my bargain a few weeks back with Peanut Butter M&Ms!
Me too, thanks to your hot tip! I got the mint and the PB ones. I also love the coconut but have only seen them for sale in Hawaii.
Oh, dear! I’m glad you’re ok and here to tell us about it! As a fellow faller, I can relate. It’s scary to think about what could’ve been!
For sure, I’m lucky that I was able to get up.
Ouch! Glad you’re OK! Spring would never do this to you…..LOL!
You got that right! Lol
Oh no!! Please be on the lookout for concussion symptoms. Thin ice is the worst bc you don’t see it until it’s too late. Take a hot bath tonight and a good pain reliever! ?
I am on the lookout. I still got a bump, but otherwise feel ok.
Glad you’re ok, definitely take it easy today!
Thanks. My day of housework turned into a day of laying around the house!
OMG! Scary! I agree completely with Sajini’s advice above… if anything feels “off” or wrong, go see a doctor or an urgent care clinic. In any case, rest and TLC are called for.
Yeah, waiting to see if I’m feeling normal makes me hyper sensitive, but so far so good. I had a concussion once and it took days for symptoms to show up.
I’ve had a couple of concussions. The one in college really hurt!
I’m glad you are ok! Falls are very scary.
Thank you!
Oh ouch, I hope you are ok after that fall! This is a good excuse for an epsom salts bath tonight!
Glad you’re ok; lillyjo – 1, slippery driveway – 0.
Take it easy tonight and the next few days. And enjoy the chocolate; you smell great!
So sorry about the fall, hope you are ok.
Oh my goodness, you poor thing! I hope you’re feeling better now.
I read this as National Hippie Day and was excited for a second 🙂
Wearing the only true natural that I’m sure about in my collection, Aftelier Honey Blossom. It’s so beautiful and it smells like summer, nice on a cold gray day. Happy Friday everyone!
That’s such a lovely scent. Great for wearing while sipping linden blossom tea.
That sounds lovely.
ha! Hippie Day would be great. I’m wearing a tie dye shirt this morning. 😉
Oh, I could totally get behind Hippie Day! You smell great✌?
I know! Bring on the patchouli and the love beads!
Maybe Hippie Day is a Thing??
Mmm you smell great. That is the only Aftelier bottle I own. A Seattle perfume shop had it marked down 50% when they decided to stop carrying them.
Wow that’s a good deal. I just have the tiniest of samples but it’s held up really well.
We are having temps in the 70s today, but it is totally overcast. So I’m wearing Apres l’Ondee to cheer me up.
I hope it’s done its job!
I was planning on wearing Hindu Honysuckle, alas, I am in the vintage Chloe I bought
Today I am off to the Guggenheim and tonight, Sleeping Beauty Ballet.
Sip of the day..My FIL chai tea.
Hindu Honeysuckle is a great botanical musk. Save it for another day, and enjoy your vintage Chloe! I recently got a mini bottle of that, and I am planning to give it a sniff soon. It is a big reference scent from the powerhouse perfume era..
Wow- sounds like a great day. Enjoy!
Oh heavens, your day sounds so wonderful!
Enjoy your day!
Wow, jealous of your wonderful day! It sounds blissful.
Lush Lord of Misrule – body lotion and perfume. Patchouli, vanilla and black pepper. Yum.
I got sick of Lord of Misrule shower cream and gave away my backup bottle. As to the remains of the first bottle, I ain’t saying what I did with it. That said, I think the perfume would be nice to have. I have not seen them in the U.S.
I loved the scent for the Lord of Misrule shower cream, but did not like the formulation. Had it been a shower gel, I would have purchased it again. Money saved!
I think it was the formulation that did it in for me, too!
Wearing Ariose by Fūm. Amazing perfume! Rich blend of flowers, tonka bean, amber. I can smell some aldehydes. Powdery. If it were not so pricey, I would definitely get a full bottle. For a natural it has great sillage and longevity.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Oh, this does sound really good!
It is! My sample is gone since I wore it at night time almost every day. I am so happy I had the opportunity to try it.
I’ve got some Fum samples on the way. There should be here today or tomorrow . Looking forward to trying them.
I hope you like them. I tried Winter Crocus and Ariose and definitely Ariose is a big winner for me.
I’ve got some Ariose on my arm right now and it is stunning! I may be feeling a FB order creeping up on me.
I think that the quality and beauty of Ariose is worth the price of a full bottle. We don’t see releases like this often and this is a perfume that I see joining my collection sometime this year.
Thanks for the response about Poivree Rose! That sounds like something to sniff if I come across it. ?
I like Ariose more every time I wear it.
Ariose is indeed a beautiful perfume!
Totally crapping out on the c p today. It’s snowing again – all 36 feet of my front wall with big factory windows looks out over the river so I’m watching the sky show and craving parfum sacre from a decant that Hajusuuri sent a few years ago. She said it was edp but I’m pretty sure it’s extrait. Super smoky spicy rose.
Also I’m getting my daily eye candy from the Sysco truck driver who unloads for the restaurant across the way. ?
Sounds even better than half off candy to me! ??
?Hey when you’re 50 something and single you have to get your oxytocin somewhere.
Love it! ?
? that’s awesome. If I ever make a remark that some guy is good looking when I’m with my college daughter she will always give me a “Mom!!” To which I reply “I’m old. Not dead.”
(Another 50 something here)
?
??
Ha! Someone here got the remains of my bottle. Perhaps it evaporated some and became a Parfum? Regardless, I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Just getting the last drops of what you sent. It’s a deep orange color and smells like a tincture I used to have of rhodiola rosacea marinated in vodka that I took for circulation. That’s the best version of PS I ever smelled. I kept trying to match it and have a couple stc decants and two full bottles one of which I’m pretty sure is counterfeit. Nothing came even close to the quality of what you sent.
At our age we don’t see many good-looking half-naked men at home !
Ain’t that the truth. 🙂
Tsk tsk …
Hahahaha??? I guess I’ll have to wait till summer for Mr Sysco to unload the truck with his shirt off.
I guess I’ve become a creepy window watcher. So sad.
That took me back to the Diet Coke ad where a bunch of ladies in an office were checking out their delivery guy. I thought that was great!
..lol ?
I remember that one!
Ahahaha nice 🙂
Most of the perfumes I actually wear are all natural; today as I looked at my little bottle armies of SIP, Hiram Green, Thorn&Bloom, Aftelier et al., I decided to go with Le Voyage by JoAnne Bassett: citrus top notes, followed by white rose, jasmine sambac, frankincense, pink lotus, vintage Mysore sandalwood, the works. Beautiful, meditative floral and dry down to die for. It’s been, sadly, discontinued, due to the vintage ingredients no longer being available, but I have few bottles left and I promised myself I will wear this one often, until I run out. Just a side comment, aren’t we lucky to have all these all natural perfume companies, so many of them in the US of A and so many led by amazing firecracker women, to bring us these complex, beautiful scents, made with quality ingredients, while we are drowning in a sea of millions of boring flankers of flankers of commercial perfumes, made with ambroxan, ISO E-Super Duper, “cashmere woods”, rat musks and rubbing alcohol, with dusting of the ever present “Finest Sicilian Bergamot” (snort) and pink pepper on top?
We indeed are fortunate to have an extraordinary bounty of choices.
I did not realize Hiram Green was all natural! I had more choices than I thought. But you shall pry my Iso E Super from my cold dead pleasantly scented hands
I have to repeatedly remind myself that Hiram Green is “natural.” I wonder if he uses some kind of sorcery to create the complex transitions, and maintain the astonishing longevity.
CM8 posted this link a few days ago. I got a headache reading it but it had the chemistry behind the natural substances
https://perfumesilove.com/2016/07/17/eu-natural/
Fascinating. Thanks so much, Hajusuuri!
I have soft spots for ISO-E Super and ambroxan– depends on the frags of course. But to each his/her/their own!
Adding myself to the iso e super fan club.
I cannot actually smell Iso-E super myself, it registers as a void with a hint of snuffed out candle, but I have plenty of its fans in my close circles; in general, I have nothing against most synthetic ingredients (with exception of few amber-maxes that register at deafening volume to my nose) and certainly nothing against mixed media perfumes, or even completely synthetic perfumes, if they are really interesting (Aether Perfumes comes to mind); I just don’t like boring, uninspired perfumes made mostly of inexpensive synthetic ingredients being sold at outrageous prices while the PR copy extols some special ingredients and quality. At least the naturals can try to make a case of prices reflecting the quality. of ingredients. Not that all naturals are great, plenty of insipid, weird mixes out there, but there is lot more honesty in their approach.
I refuse to take sides–I love both natural perfumes and perfumes with synthetics. I probably don’t love a lot of perfumes that are made of entirely synthetic ingredients, but perhaps I have some and don’t know it. I do admire perfumers who create beautiful and complex scents entirely from natural essences, particularly if they also manage to get good longevity.
Agreed. And as others have pointed out, the line between “natural” and synthetic is blurry, and sometimes just arbitrary. I still think the distinction can be important and useful, just not in all of the ways it is sometimes presumed to be….
+ONE 50Roses!
I’m wearing the only all-natural perfume I have a FB of- the fabulous Aftelier Palimpsest.
Palimpsest, that’s a gorgeous perfume name. 😀
Good morning and HAPPY FriYAY!!
I only had a couple of choices for the challenge today, so I landed on the solid perfume version of Lush Cardamom Coffee. I really need to wear this more often! It’s a really great gourmand that isn’t too sweet. Good stuff!
Have a great weekend errrbodeeeeeee! 🙂
**waving** a happy FriYAY to you!
You smell goooood
I’m in vintage No 19 EDT. Not natural, but eh.
But you smell gorgeous, and that counts for something!
Chinchilla! (Takes a bow.)
DELICIOUS
Brava! ??
Hi everybady, happy Friday! Finally back from my trip to Victoria B.C. where we surprisingly got snowed in! I’m wearing Hiram Green Dilettante.
How is your shoulder?
It is still quite sore, but range of movement has returned. Not sure what is the source of the problem, but I am going to let it heal itself, assuming it may be a rotator cuff injury. I am continuing my yoga exercises, except those that put too much strain on the shoulder.
So glad to hear that…maybe it is not frozen shoulder after all.
That’s what I’m thinking. The symptom picture doesn’t really fit for frozen shoulder.
How was the trip? Good to have you back ?
It was a good trip, despite the weather being less than optimal and the limitations imposed by traveling with the dog. Next time we’ll visit in the summer, but we had to take this particular trip now.
How did the teenytiny one like the snow? Hoping you weren’t delayed too long due to weather…❄️
She loved the snow! Jumped right in and started playing, bounding like a little fox. It was so cute. We were delayed 36 hours, not fun.
Sorry about the delay, but that sounds soooo cute 🙂
Welcome back! Good to hear that your shoulder is improving!
Thank you! I’m really happy too.
Glad you made it home. I saw that Victoria got piles of snow in the last while.
And super happy that your shoulder is improving! When I had my shoulder surgery, one of the best home exercises recommended by my physio guy was with a pulley screwed into the ceiling and a rope put thru the top of the pulley, hanging down so you can grab it while sitting. Alternating arms with an up and down motion for strengthens the shoulders. Wishing you continued improvement.
My husband did that for PT for his shoulder, he said it helped more than anything, and he still has a set up for it in the basement over some pipes.
I still have the pulley installed in the basement; just in case. Glad it worked for your hubby; shoulder problems are no joke.
Here here- it can make ALL the difference.
Thanks for your kind words. I am hoping all the yoga exercises will continue helping.
PSA: cheapies in T K Maxx Birmingham (UK) right now:
Tom Ford Orchid Soleil
SJP Stash
LAP La chasse aux papillons
Cartier L’envol
And others. :^)
There’s been some great stuff in TKs for a while now. I saw Habit Rouge and M7 Oud Absolu this week. While I was there I picked up a couple of Andrea Maacks for an absolute steal…
What a selection of bargains
Did you indulge?
No, nothing I wanted, and I’m basically not spending until we sell the house. Too many unpredictable costs in my life right now! :^)
I was planning to wear the all natural Vamp à New York, but I was in desperate of some serious daffodil treatment this morning. Hence Myths Woman for me today. It’s my ultimate daffodil perfume and thought it’s not at all all natural, it sure does smell of nature.
You smell great! Myths has a great drydown.
You smell great!
I bumped into a tester of Mont de Narcisse today in store, and I suddenly felt the same craving for narcissus, i guess spring is in the air. 🙂 I tried some on my arm. But I dont get much narcissus, it is more a soft woody/spicy/leather. Pretty, not wow.
The nose wants what the nose wants!
I’m wearing Slowdive this morning. On the mountain it’s been snowing nonstop and ski conditions are epic. However, the waterproofing on the butt of my ski suit has worn off and I got wet and cold yesterday. Fortunately there is a dryer in the ladies locker room!
oooooh, I have a sample of Slowdive, must find it today.
yay for skiing, I miss it, should get back out there. 😉
Enjoy! I miss mountains.
Me too.
Twins! (Except for the soggy ski suit)
Triplets! I’m also a bit soggy thanks to slushy sidewalks and a hole in my shoe, discovered just now.
Good for you on skiing! I’m a bunny slope dropout ?
Twin bunny slope drop-out! I went once in my teen-age years. I’m more of a fair-weather girl.
I’m commando so far because I’ll be going to re-start Pilates later this morning and fragrance is a no-no there. It’s been almost a year due to all of my hip problems and doing PT and I’m hoping to get back into some sort of decent shape. My plan for the afternoon is to wear AA Calling All Angels which is all-natural and beautiful. Happy Hippo Day! This made me think that Zoologist needs to do a Hippo scent! But perhaps, having covered both elephant and rhinoceros, they don’t feel there’s enough terrain left there to make it interesting. It would make for a cute picture on the label there, done in their unique style!
enjoy your Pilates! I’m taking a class that combines Pilates and yoga in a wonderful way.
agree we need a Zoologist Hippo 😀
Hope that your Pilates class goes well for you!
Have fun with your Pilates classes!
SotD = PHI une rose de Kandahar
I used up my first sample, today I’m wearing PHI from a new sample, definitely FB worthy. I love this rose perfume deeply, it’s exceptional work by Mr. Tauer.
His scents always make me think he has used very high quality materials that smell very natural, very real. His perfumes have a feeling of wholeness that is in line with the essential oils I use daily.
thank u 2 cm8 and Robin for today’s community project. 😀
Happy FriYAY, y’all!
I agree, his scents are not all-natural but you can tell there is a lot of natural oils in them. You smell great!
Hi scent twin! You smell fab!
I think PHI is still on sale at twisted lily.
I think it sold out the day it went on sale. ?
That is my favorite Tauer of all time. You smell spectacular!
Thunk. My bottle is MIA. I’m sure I’ll find it eventually. In the meantime,!I think it is available in 5mLs in Andy’s website.
One of my top 5
You smell great!
Moss Gown! I was glad to be wearing a favorite today when it was 2 degrees and I had to put basically my whole face inside my coat. It smelled good in there! Also, I missed my bus and had to wait ten minutes for the next one and my new coat kept me wonderfully warm, hooray.
Yay for your new coat!
I love new coats that make outside waits comfortable.
Even better when the warmth wafts the scent!
Your new coat arrived just in time, it sounds like. 2 degrees?!? Yeesh!
Wearing Sweet Anthem Handmade Perfumes Phoebe today.Notes are Lavender,Maple Sugar,Tobacco,White Amber.
Ooh that sounds nice
Wow, sounds delicious!
SotD is Black Cashmere, from a small decant I received from a generous NST’er. 🙂
It does not fit the CP i guess, but its gorgeous stuff!
You smell outstandingly lovely.
Perfection!
It is gorgeous! I was lucky enough to get some from a generous NSTer too.
You smell wonderful!
Black Cashmere is wonderful stuff!
The only natural I have is Aftelier Ancient Resins oil, so I’m in that layered with CdG Ouarzazate. I don’t layer much, but I love this combo!
It is a great combo, you smell fab!
Thank you! And glad someone else has tried it, too ?
That combo sounds fabulous!
They work well together and the oil helps the CdG stick around a little longer
Today is a good day for incense! Then again, almost every day is…
Good for all that ails ya’!
Baisers Volés today (would have been more appropriate for yesterday, oui?). It’s spicy floral. Supposed to be jasmine and more bwf but the spice almost gives a carnation feel. Always happy to get some carnation….
TGIF! My SOTD is Chiaroscuro by Roxana Illuminated Perfume layered over Aftelier’s Ancient Resins body oil.
Everyone have a wonderful day! 😀
By the way, has anyone heard/smelled L’Occitane’s new Herbae scent? It sounds pretty nice! And, it comes in 50ml, 90ml, 10ml and body products for soaps, lotions and shower gels!
Finishing my personal Aftelier week with Parfum Prive. I admire it more than I like it, it smells very luxurious but it’s not really for me. It feels like the kind of thing my grandmother would like. That is NOT an “old lady perfume” drag, she’s a no-nonsense, very funny but very particular sort of woman. I haven’t seen her in a handful of years, but last time I did, she complained that my perfume was too strong. I wish I remembered what I was wearing that day, but Parfum Prive sits pretty close to the skin, and has orange blossom, which I know she likes. She’s a retired nurse, so I don’t think she ever wore fragrance much, but I feel like it’d be something like this if she did.
Sorry you had a week of perfumes that didn’t work for you. Tommorow you should wear one of your favorites.
I did really like Wild Roses! But yes, I intend to 😀
TGIF! It’s been a doozy of a week. I’ve been away from home and the perfume collection, but as always, brought some with me. I’ve mostly been wearing No 5 L’eau, OJ Ta’if, and Hermes Eau Claire des Merveilles before bed– and gosh, these are sooo lovely. I probably went 6-10 months without wearing the Hermes but have sprayed it as the SOTE at least 10 times in 3 weeks, and it’s really hit the spot.
I’ve missed you guys lately but will catch up on posts and comments.
Hope things start to relax a bit. You need to get work/ perfume life in balance, eh.
Welcome back!
Love your perfume choices!
In April Aromatics Rosenlust with a bit of Erdrnstern.
Whoa, nice mix! Rosenlust is beautiful, but needs more oomph in the drydown and Erdenstern is all about that amazing drydown. I love April Aromatics; Liquid Dreams is one of my all time favorite, go-to scents. Really dreamy and unique perfume.
I have a FB of Liquid Dreams. I never see it mentioned here but I love it.
I really liked Rosenlust when I had a chance to try it. Very pretty dark pink roses to my nose.
I didn’t know it was flag day here in Canada until I read it here! It obviously is not a well publicised event in these parts ☺
Happy Flag day!
Yes, I didn’t know either. The flag is only two years older than I am!
I could not tell you (without googling) when Flag Day is in the US…
SOTD: MFK Aqua Vitae Forte; sprayed vs. dabbed today and liking this more and more.
Just brewed a pot of TJ’s Earl Grey de la Creme, yum!
Busy Friday but very much looking forward to a 3-day weekend and our favorite dog visiting through Tue.
Your tea of the tea sounds very tasty!
Argh! Not “tea of the tea”, “Tea of the day”!
Ecco Bella Ambrosia for me today. I wasn’t sure what I thought of it at first, but I keep sniffing myself, so I must like it haha.
Happy Friday, friends.
I’m wearing just an all natural patchouli oil i bought from a hippy stall at a fair.
It’s a gorgeous smell on its own.
Today the schoolchildren went on strike to make a stand against climate change and I am feeling guilty that I don’t do enough to protect mother nature.
I think this may lead to a trip to the recycling plant and the park tomorrow.
I also bought a bunch of white narcissi from the florest, they smell amazing!
1) You smell lovely!
2) Protecting the environment will take a SYSTEMIC CHANGE. It’s not just individual action, but a change in how societies work on this planet.
You are completely right about both points.
Hi all! Friday!
1) Am in Lurk RSW005- This is beautifully realized-luxurious in feel and so wonderful well blended. This is definitely a scent for lovemaking- this is a very sensual and evocative rose/sandalwood/citrus blend. Like most natural perfumes this does not have a big sillage and needs heat to rise.
2) ALSO: After exercise this week I have been soaking in a bath with magnesium salts* and Olverum bath oil- an utterly wonderful essential oil bath oil. After the bath, the upstairs of the house smells DIVINE. My housemate came home and said she thought she was in heaven. Pricey af; I got it on sale from Anthropologie.
3) Despite chocolate and wine I am depuffed and looking/feeling sleekier – if I hold my breath in I can just about wiggle back into my 27 jeans. Sigh, more Pilates and Cardio- FOREVER- for me!
*Magnesium can be absorbed through the skin, taking it orally is very bitter. You can massage magnesium extract directly into the skin OR through salts in a bath.
My mom uses magnesium lotion to prevent or alleviate leg cramps.
I’ve noticed a lot of TV commercials for that kind of lotion lately. Interesting.
Late to this. I have seen those lotions, and wondered about them. But I am getting good results from doing the baths and extracts- the sharp flares in my legs has lessened considerably and I sleep a lot better.
My dogs decided to wake me up at 4:20 this morning because the wanted to eat and go to the bathroom. After all that, it was 6am before I could fall back to sleep. Wearing PHI Une Rose de Kandahar since I don’t have any naturals in my collection.
Smelling great!
You smell great. They trained you well ?
I’m wearing Jasmine Rouge. I’m sitting at urgent care with a friend who had a severe allergic reaction to the scent of a student’s mango peach hand lotion. I wonder what the aromachemical is that caused it? My perfume didn’t give her any problems at all.
Fragrance allergies are scary!
That’s scary for your friend! Did she apply it to her skin? Jasmine Rouge is beautiful.
Yikes! I wonder if there was any real mango in it? My son is allergic mangos.
to?
That is very scary! I hope she feels very soon.
I’m allergic to mango skin. The sap has the same properties as poison ivy. I hope your friend is OK.
That is scary. I had a good friend with horrible allergies to scents. Hand lotion was a bad one.
Oh, happy she had a clinic close at hand to get to!
You smell lovely. Hope your friend feels better soon! I’m sure she’s grateful for your support.
Oh geez! I hope that your friend is better now.
Those palms are amazing. I hope Hermes will do a Grenada garden ( or a tropical island garden ) one day. Going natural with Mea taramea and water. I had trouble trying to figure out what taramea smells like ( it is a very tough , sharped spiked, native plant used in Maori perfume , the gum only ) and I think the closest thing might be like sugar cane, the smell you get when you chew on it. So sweet and sugary. Layers nicely with my Dame new musk oil. Happy national hippo day to all the American hippos, and happy flag day Canada…prefer your flag to most other flags.
Taramea sounds nice! I remember chewing on raw sugar cane in Hawaii.
I like our Canadian flag too, because it is a symbol of nature rather than power, like some other flags.
I was just thinking, after seeing the new addition to the Hermes Jardin series, it would be interesting to see them create scents from gardens in the Americas, Australia or New Zealand. They did do a gorgeous silk scarf for Canada’s 150 anniversary: https://goo.gl/images/sb9hyS
Ooh, that’s gorgeous!
…and educational! I think they should give you a free one if you can name all the creatures and the flowers & plants! 😉
Those scarves are lovely! Wish I had one in my collection.
Me too… They really are spectacular! I’ve been enjoying their winter ads – they’re always so clever. The one with the reindeer sporting the scarf around his neck is great!
Wow, that scarf is so beautiful. I’d want to frame it on the wall like art.
Those palms are in Yuma, Arizona, and I picked them to go with the Medjool date fragrance from DSH that I’m not actually wearing, so perhaps a bit of a stretch, ha.
There are lots of palms here though!
Hope you are having a wonderful vacation, Robin. I’m wearing Hiram Greene Hyde, today.
It is fantastic, thanks!
AA Erdenstern with a little Ancient Resins.
Ha – mostly twins.
April Aromatics Erdenstern sample for the CP. It’s earthy: soft, subtle, smooth trees and earth smell. But I don’t need a bottle.
I thought I had a sample of one of the Ojai scents around here somewhere but it’s disappeared. I went my new Nest Wild Poppy mini, which I got for 100 pts at Sephora. It’s a cute little floral that reminds me VERY MUCH of something I wore in high school and I can’t figure out what. I vaguely remember having some sort of honeysuckle thing, and this does remind me of honeysuckle, so maybe that was it.
Happy weekend!
Interesting because there aren’t all that many honeysuckle-heavy scents!
Hiram Green Shangri La. He has this on clearance on his website – discontinuing? It’s a lovely old school chypre, and I surprised myself when I bought the travel spray over any of his other perfumes – I liked them all, but this one fit perfectly in my collection.
Yes, it can’t be made any more due to IFRA.
Such a shame! The oakmoss, I suppose. I did not really think I liked chypres until I tried this.
SOTD = Pacifica Spanish Amber
Resinous incensy amber. It smells like.a light version of Dior Mitzah. The packaging is in the red family so I am in tune with my Red Package challenge.
I have begun to post miniature artwork (Art Card Editions and Originals or ACEO for short) in Instagram, some are closeups while others as props to my SOTD pictures. Speaking of props, I bought different colored and textured placemats to make my pictures pop – I don’t know why I did not think of this sooner!
Your IG photos are so interesting. I have been struggling with backgrounds for my SOTD photos, the placemats are a brilliant idea!
Thanks! I was using colored folders before and some have faded or had score marks in too many places.
I also wanted to mention that I ended up with 7 placemats at BB&B for the princely sum of $22 and change. I had a $10 off $30 coupon.
Spanish Amber is Mitzah light??? Then I am lucky I have a bottle of that Pacifica.
Yep. Mine is probably 4 years old!
I *think* that’s about how old my bottle is, too.
Is this a discontinued Pacifica?
I believe so.
You know you can add your instagram link to your gravatar page, for those of us who can’t remember things 🙂
St.Claire Scents Casablanca today.
This one is powerful enough to last on my scent eating skin! This is my first wear. It has a purr of incense underneath a wonderful floral (jasmine?) and I get lavender. There’s some kind of resemblance to Bogue’s Mem which I adore.
It may just be me! Happy Naturals everyone!!
You smell fantastic!
Wearing Soivohle Amun Re the Tears of Ra which is not just my favorite natural scent but one of my all_time top 10 faves
I love the name. That’s another small indie I would love to explore…
+1
Hello, house twin!
Enjoying HG Shangri La. Not sure if Hiram Green is considered natural, but this is a lovely one. ?
This was what I had originally planned to wear today. I assumed it was natural, but don’t really know.
Regardless, you smell great!
Sounds like HG is indeed all natural, so you get full marks!
No natural perfumes in my collection, no points. Needed a boost for the last workday, so three sprays of Ambre Russe for some wodka and champagne sparkles.
As i had the late work shift today i managed to squeeze in half an hour on the cross trainer and a quick shopping at our farmers market for cheese and flour.
I have a job interview tomorrow, because one of my former medical assistant recommended me to her new bosses. They seem to be very interested and offered a significant pay rise too.
Good luck tannina!
Good luck on the interview!
Good luck!
Good luck with the interview!
Best of luck on the interview! ?
Break a leg!!
I went with Cocoa Tuberose by Providence Perfume for the cp.. I have a small sample left that I’ve been hoarding. It’s delicious and probably my favorite gourmand.
Cocoa Tuberose sounds yummy! ?
It really does
Another great one from PPC! Charna Ethier is a talented perfumer.
I am travelling all week, so I brought packable samples rather than any naturals. (I have *some* natural perfumes but they don’t work that well with my scent-eating skin).
Today I have been in Parfumerie Générale “Tubéreuse Couture”. Notes are orange, green notes, jasmine, ylang-ylang, sugar cane, indian tuberose, benzoin and papyrus. I don’t love it.
Yesterday was Huitième Art “Naïviris”
Wednesday: Maria Candida Gentile “Gentile”
Tuesday: Divine “L’être aimé”
To which I can only add “well, they all have to be called something, don’t they?” None of them worth remembering, for good or ill.
Today was unseasonably warm and sunny (for Birmingham in February). I had a busy afternoon of personal tasks – medical centre, exchange clothes for TOMK, buy a few things you can’t get in Spain (jerk paste! yay!), see the solicitor about our house sale.
Scarily, in 3 weeks time TOMK and I change countries again, starting 6 months of exile from Spain with a 3.5-month stay in The Hague. Yikes!
What do you do that has you traveling so much? Must be very interesting!
I work as a project manager and have been doing it long enough to get senior roles; the downside is I have to travel to where that sort of work is. :^)
We have need to put off becoming tax resident in Spain for a year by staying away for 6 months (and one day), but don’t want to go back to the UK where in any case our house is probably 2-3 weeks away from not being ours any more (fingers crossed!). I’m hoping that the chance to spend some time in a new country will be exciting, even if it is the silver lining of a cloud.
You will still be based in Malaga, though?
Yes, we just need to delay being fiscally resident for a year. :^)
Jerk paste?.. I have to ask
I’m guessing it’s spices for Jamaican jerk chicken?
Exactly – the paste is a lot nicer than the dry spice mix, IMHO. I got 2 jars so I’ll soon be happily blowing the top of my head off! :^D
It’s food, but we could probably all think of a few jerks who could be doused in paste and rolled in sawdust or feathers. ;^)
lol, thanks for the laugh!
Didn’t mean to post so late but a little thing called work has gotten in the way. Wearing my beloved Strange Invisible Perfumes L’Invisible. I fell in love with it at first sniff years ago and purchased a bottle during a 20% off sale atBeautyhabit. This was back when the price of a 50ml bottle was $135. It’s now $265!
Holy inflation Batman! That’s quite the price hike!
That’s some crazy inflation!
Unseasonably warm temps here today, but mostly clouds too. Back to the regularly scheduled winter weather tomorrow. ?
SOTD = Soivohle Pachou Minimal, from the sample stash. It’s a great, lighter weight patchouli that works year round for me. Not sure if it is entirely natural, so I am getting at least partial credit with this one.
Glad you are enjoying it. Picking from the sample stash can be hit or miss. 5 more weeks til spring!
Thanks lillyjo! I have tried the Pachou Minimal before, and thought seriously about the travel sized spray of it.
Crazy temps in these here parts too!
I wonder how long the roller coaster will last! This winter has been full of ups and downs with temperature.
I’m wearing two experiments today; a dab of AbdesSalaam Attar Hyraceum with 2 spritzes of 7 Virtues Afghanistan Orange Blossom on the right arm and a dab of ASA Civet (which really just smells like feces by itself) with a generous application of Atlas Mountain Rose oil from the Body Shop on the left! After wearing these today I’m pretty tempted to just upend the whole 1ml of Hyraceum into the Orange Blossom bottle.
I twitched and shuddered when I read your post ?
XD I thought better of it after a moment, but i was tempted!
Actually the civet is some kind of wizardry because both yesterday and today (civet under a couple sprays of Orange Blossom, and I really only used a dab) the fecal odor disappears almost entirely/could be mistaken for a bit of jasmine and the florals get super warm and cozy. With the rose oil yesterday, everything seemed to get creamier and there was an almost chocolate-y aspect in the mix. Today the orange blossom is more musky and the jasmine comes out a little bit more.
HAAAAAAA!
Interesting! But you’d have to decant, I assume — or do the 7 Virtues bottles open?
No, would have to decant, which is basically what stopped me. XD
Wow, good for you experimenting and going for it. Civet is a touchy ingredient to work with, but I’ve really enjoyed working with hyraceum.
I’m going to guess that the concentration of civet/civet-stand-in is much lower than the concentration of hyraceum in these samples based on wear time, so the civet has actually been easier on my nose. That or I have a very unfortunate anosmia (totally possible as I get mostly cedar and not much else out of Baccarat Rouge, and initially had a difficult time smelling musks). Will have to run it by the SO. 🙂
What have you tried with hyraceum?
Well, I’ve worked with hyraceum by breaking up the stones with a hammer, the actual Africa stones, to release the odor and tincturing them with alcohol. I did this when working for a perfumer. She uses the hyraceum tincture as an ingredient in one of her perfumes.
That sounds incredible!
My favorite natural perfumery is Annie Oakley Natural Perfumery in Ligonier, Indiana, but, as a seasonal fragrance wearer, the two fragrances I have and love – in summer – Morning Dew and Sunset, had no appeal for me on a very cold day. But, her story is an interesting one and should you ever find yourself in the beautiful Amish countryside where her perfumery is located, I highly recommend a tour. She even makes fragrances for horses, and their riders!
Instead, the closest I can come to today’s cp is Pacifica Persian Rose. February always finds me in a rose-centric mode, and this scent suits the day so well. I get citrus at its opening, uplifting and matching today’s bright sunshine, then a deep, dark smoky rose to warm up the cold temps. Very long-lasting!
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend ahead. Stay warm – or stay cool – whichever you need to be!
Oh, cool! A friend who grew up in South Bend visited Annie Oakley a year or so back and told me all about it. I’d love to visit someday.
The older Pacifica scents are so good — glad that Persian Rose suits you so perfectly!
I’ve been there too, and enjoyed it, though I didn’t find any perfume to love. It’s definitely a pretty area around there.
The Persian Rose is a beaut! ?
I am in HG Moon Bloom, which feels too summery for the 8 degrees that we have as a high for today, but I am still enjoying it.
I have an Annie Oakley fragrance – the one named Annie. I didn’t realize it is natural. Maybe I’ll wear it over the week-end.
Not participating in CP since I don’t have any naturals in my small collection, instead I am wafting TF Sahara Noir-one of my favorite perfumes, which suits current weather very well.
Big shout out to hajusuuri for her generosity!!! Some time ago I was searching for perfumes heavy on lemon note and she kindly offered to mail me a sample of Profumum Roma Aqua Viva. Needless to say she made it hajusuuri style- at least 10 ml SAMPLE! with extras! I almost jumped when opened my package!!!
THANK YOU DEAR H!
You’re welcome and thanks for the shout out!
I kind of bent the rules at work and wore 2 pumps of Tauer’s Wowilla oil in my hair (as I was running out of my usual hair product, and was in a hurry this morning). I didn’t have time to look for my regular stuff.
It was pretty cold this morning, so I had quite a force of coldness around me as I sat down at my desk. Within 5 minutes, someone said “it smells good in here, like maple or something”. Then in about an hour someone else said “something smells good, but I don’t know where its coming from”. At least no one called me out so I guess it was not that overpowering in the air.
The oil actually had some presence, at least to me; probably because its right close to my nose. I can still smell it wafting around me after almost 10 hours. Its quite amazing!
Happy Friday everyone!
I can usually get away with wearing vanilla scents when J know I will be near scent phobes.
You could always blame it on a maple donut or coffee. 🙂
My employer announced our annual bonus today, and it is spectacularly good this year. I will be getting full size of Aftelier Antique Ambergris.
Congratulations!
w00t w00t! Congrats!
Woo hoo!??
Congratulations! Well deserved.
If I remember correctly, you work at a refinery? My Dad worked at a gas and oil refinery for his whole career so I get it.
Yes, I work at a refinery, and have for 29 years. We do have quite a significant percentage of employees who have worked there 20, 30, or 40 years. We even had one who celebrated a 50-year service anniversary.
Wow, congrats!
Late to the party but joining the Hiram Green parade in Arbole Arbole.
My nine year old son loves Shangri La so i just ordered him a sample! Good taste ?
I mixed lavender and lime essential oils into coconut oil. I ended up getting two drops of lime essential oil in there rather than the one I was trying for, so the lime aspect was quite strong. I’ll have to do it again and properly follow the ratio I got from a lovely NST commenter. 🙂 However, the mix I ended up with isn’t making Dad cough, so there’s a plus.
It looks like if I experiment with lime essential oil again next week, I’ll be all set for that Friday’s project. 🙂
Have a good weekend, folks!
?
Today was get taxes done day.
I wore Memo Tigers Nest second day in a row in case I needed to gnaw on my arm depending on the outcome.
I love this fragrance.
So late to the party I fear it may be over! But I’m wearing Lush Devil’s Nightcap today and enjoying it.
Ooh, oakmoss!
I’m late, wearing Liz Earle No 9, 90% natural.
