It's Tuesday, and there are 71 days left until Spring (in the Northern Hemisphere, anyway). What fragrance are you wearing?
Me: I'm accruing community project points in Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Fumée d’Or.
Reminder: on 1/11 we're doing My Precious...wear a scent that references jewels or precious metals. Suggested by thegoddessrena.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Orbits Tatara Gold Cast Iron Teapot (a scent of the day repeat) was from Teavana, and is no longer sold.
L`Air du Desert Marocain.
Ohhhhh, lovely. I’m envious of your SOTD! Andy sent a sample on a card of LADDM with the last order and it’s made my living room smell divine!
Good morning! No gold or jewels for me, but I feel brilliant in vintage Bel Ami.
All that matters 🙂
I’m wearing Hiris for the second day in a row. I enjoyed it so much yesterday, I just needed to repeat it.
Among all the perfumes I have, Hiris is still my go-to scent (along with Chanel No. 19 Poudre).
Hiris twins with you. But I had a horrible day, so will not wear it for a while. Some days I wish I could be a guardian of a Sardinian Island. Finished reading yesterday’s posts just now, while drinking tea and it had the same effect as a glass of red wine. Instant relaxation.
To all the gardeners out there: those heirloom tomatoes are finicky and the yield is low. My poor plants yielded about 3 tomatoes per plant, after much mollycoddling. I do best with cherry tomatoes and Sun Gold is a favourite. Co-plant with basil. And I know this is sacrilege, but for a bumper crop and enough tomatoes to give away, and make homemade ketchup and bottles of pasta sauce, plant Moneymaker. Happy Gardening!
I hope you have a better day tomorrow!
Thank you and welcome back from Lisbon!
Thank you, Amyitis. Portugal is under-rated, IMHO. For those who have not been there but have plans to go, it would’ve best to go soon.
We usually grow San Marzano and Roma varieties for sauce and an heirloom variety for eating. Some years aren’t great due to weather conditions, etc., but we have no problem growing them.
I hope tomorrow is a better day!
Thank you for the “better day” wish. And maybe the weather was the culprit and not the heirloom varieties!
Have a good day!
Same here, we do great with some heirloom varieties. Some years some do better than others, depending on weather patterns and watering.
Adding…this year was a little weird. We had excellent production but it was all early and late…July good, August NOT as good as usual, and then we had tons of tomatoes in September right into into mid October. Brandywines were excellent, the Peruvians (my favorite, as they taste great but hold together nicely for caprese salads, whereas the Brandywines are so juicy they tend to fall apart) tasted good but did not have as nice of a texture as they do most years. We started with about 15 plants / 4-5 varieties, and something killed the orange cherry tomatoes (another favorite of mine) before it got started.
Tomato gardener here…..your advice shall be taken and is appreciated! 🙂
PS: I’ve planted Moneymaker and Mortgage Lifter many times, with good results
I bought some glasshouse tomatoes (from the vine yesterday) and I had to keep sniffing them . It has to be one of the best summer scents. I hope your day improves.
I’m so sorry to hear you had a rough day! I hope tonight and tomorrow are much better. Hiris will wait patiently for you.
I am wearing the very earthy Bourbon French Voodoo Love and drinking a cup of Orange Bliss tea.
My tea this morning was coffee 🙂
Currently having a cup of peppermint tea.
sounds like the start of a good day !
You smell great! A French Quarter favorite 🙂
Thank you ! This is a calming fragrance for me 🙂
Wearing Bois d’Iris today, from my bottle that arrived yesterday. It’s better than I remembered, and I liked it enough anyway. Partial credit for a jewelry house? 🙂
You smell very nice!
Thank you!
Like you I got a bottle recently and have no regrets 🙂
I was debating between in and Gardenia Petale. I still may need the former too, since I don’t have another gardenia perfume….
Have managed not to buy Bois d’Iris – maybe when I’ve made a big enough dent in my L’Attesa…
Fair enough. I just couldn’t pass up the deal!
I’m a sucker for Iris and very intrigued to try L’atessa. Is it as good as the reviews are saying? How is the performance?
Longevity award: St. Clair Casablanca, I sprayed this on my robe sleeve a month ago. Anyhow, this transferred from my robe to my wrist, first time this happened was on a shirt I rewore that I had sprayed. I’ll be wearing OJ Rose Gold, a sample that came with my bottle of OJ Woman.
How is that scent? I’m curious about it. (Rose Gold)
I like it, I think it smells like ormonde woman with rose, it’s really rich, woody. I have a decant coming my way so I’ll see how it works sprayed. I some left in my Luckyscent sample vial if you’d like to try it? My email is Beas dotttt Beverly at geeee mail dot commm
Wow, great!
Sometimes the drydowns of things in my laundry basket smell so good I don’t want to wash those items!
I had one of those mornings when I’m not sure what I want to wear (those don’t happen to me often) and went with Chanel Paris-Deauville in the end. It has replaced Chanel Cristalle as my ‘wear anywhere anytime’ scent. Not that it’s necessarily better, but my bottle of Cristalle is almost empty and is starting to smell a little off…
You smell extremely pretty!
Thank you, I do!
Nice choice and it seems to work in both winter and summer.
It does, although I admit it feels a bit more natural to wear when it’s warm. But as this type of a Chanel is very familiar to me and effortless to wear, I find It works for me any time of the year and it never bothers me.
First I thought you were talking about clothes and almost started envying you :). Though, recently I started having problems with deciding what to wear perfume-wise as well. Mostly, because I struggle between what I’d like to wear and what will be tolerated by the sensitive person in my office.
Paris-Deauville is very nice but for me it feels more like spring/summer perfume. Anyway, you smell great!
Ah, I’m lucky to have colleagues who seem to enjoy my perfume hobby. One really comes to appreciate these things. And I agree with you, if someone asked me, I would also say Paris-Deauville is more of a spring/summer scent (Cristalle is more of an all-rounder in that sense). But to my nose it is a very neutral fragrance, so I’m happy to wear it whenever.
Participating in the community project by default. Wearing Donna Karan Gold and feeling desperate for spring.
Oh duh, how could I forget DK Gold? It wasn’t on the initial list of options for me this week even though I own a bottle.
You smell great!
I forgot about it too! And it’s such a gorgeous scent.
I love this fragrance and you smell mahvelous!
The days are already getting longer so spring will happen!
I agree with all of you! DK Gold is absolutely gorgeous and I am so happy to see the days getting longer!
I did order a bottle of Noontide Petals after yesterday’s discussion. Must not have been a big seller for Andy Tauer or it cost too much to make. In vintage BaV this morning. My dad is in surgery and mom is in the hospital with him. I am at home with the dogs doing laundry before my shower. I will wear Noontide Petals afterwards. Could someone please talk me out of buying a South Sea pearl bracelet? It’s a plain thin chain with a small pearl but it’s spending $185 that is freaking me out.
You may be stress shopping Dawn. Something that I also guilty of.
I hope your father’s surgery goes well. Sending good wishes his way.
I am starting to lean to walking away from it. I was talking to Pearl Paradise for about a week and a half. Yes, I am probably stress shopping.
Enjoy your new bottle!
Why do you want to buy it now? Is it on some kind of an incredible sale? If no, tell yourself that you’ll decide if you want to do it in a month. On February 8th see if you still want it, can afford and can buy. Impulse jewelry shopping is a bad idea – unless you do it somewhere on a trip and spend the sum that isn’t meaningful in your budget.
I agree with Undina, unless it’s something you’ve been wanting for a long time and it’s on a super sale, I’d wait a few weeks, after the stress has passed.
Do you have 6 months worth of emergency cash socked away? I don’t mean literally but something to fall back on if something you need comes up so you don’t stress out over being able to afford it (emergency vet bills, dental bills, Amazon Prime if you have not renewed for a year?).
I had just emailed them back and said I will be able to buy it later in the year. Budget will be better in the next couple months.
Hope the surgery goes smoothly. I’d wait on the bracelet temporarily but if it’s something that you really want, I hope you get it soon 🙂
Sending healing energy for your dad.
I think that holding off on getting that bracelet is a prudent move. Also, I hope that you have received good news about your dad!
My SOTD is L’Or de Torrente, which I dsicovered thanks to Laila’s poetic description in the guessing game. A charming coffee-rose-wood scent, great for winter.
Speaking of shiny things, today, after several weeks of absence, I saw the sun. Finally a sunny day. 🙂
Yay for sun!?
May you have more sunny days soon!
Thank you, Jalapeno!
Good morning Y’all….
Still working thru a backlog of samples that kinda piled up during the holidays…..(a FUN problem to have!). Today I’m sampling Prada Infusion d’Iris Cedre. Just GORGEOUS! Loving that soft powdery drydown against the soft wood background. Good stuff!
I never got the cedar note I was hoping for from Infusion d’Iris Cedre. On my skin, it was like Infusion d’Iris plus a weird sour note.
Glad it’s working better for you!
Hey all, I smell pretty gorgeous in l’Attesa. Because anticipation is precious? (It’s a stretch.)
Thanks, all, for your kind wishes for my father. He’ll have further testing tomorrow that will help clarify matters. He seems remarkably unconcerned, and suggests that I be, as well. Unfortunately, I’m rather higher strung than he is.
I hope the testing will at least help you know how things are and what should be done. Good luck!
Thanks, Glannys.
It is very hard not to worry but you’ll help him more by being calm. Wishing the best outcome for your father and you smell lovely today!
Ha. Yes, you’re certainly right 🙂 Thanks.
Wishing your father all the best. (And can totally understand your anxiety – I am a worrier from a long line of worriers)
Haha, thanks, holyneroli. Me too! I’ve always felt my mother worried enough for my whole family; I increasingly find myself becoming as worry-ful as she is.
I’m so sorry you’re going through this anxiety. It’s good he’s more laid-back.
Thanks Calypso. Yes, that is good 🙂
Hope the reading goes well.
Thanks, Amy, me too.
I hope his sense of calm runs off on you some. Though I can be a worrier myself, especially with health stuff, and knowing too much really doesn’t help me. Fingers crossed for him!
Haha 🙂 Yeah. I worry about everything, but health is the thing over which I have the least control. Thanks, Elisa P.
Hope all goes well tomorrow for your father.
Thanks for your kind thoughts, flopper.
You smell wonderful! I just wore it a couple of days ago and enjoyed it immensely.
Hope for the best for your father.
It is a beautiful scent, isn’t it? It’s been on my FB list for a while, but it’ll just have to wait.
Thanks, Undina.
You smell so elegant!
Wishing your father the best.
Thank you on both counts!
You smell beautiful. Sending hugs from Brussels.
Thanks, Annikky <3
I've been meaning to tell you this since my trip to Brussels last year (when I didn't see you), but I visited the Parlamentarium and greatly enjoyed it! I wondered if you were involved with it at all? Regardless, it was fun and interesting.
I hope you can stop worrying a little – until the further tests are finished there’s nothing really that you can do. (Easy to say, hard to put into practice!)
Thinking of you and your parents.
Heh, you’re right, of course. That’s what my father said, too.
Thank you, sistine.
Happy to hear that your dad is getting tested tomorrow and that answers will be coming soon! It’s the uncertainty of situations like those that I find are the worst part. Hugs!
Thanks, Jalapeno <3 I always agree until the uncertainty gives way to bad news.
Hi all! SOTD is Chanel Cristalle edp layered over No. 19 body cream. Interesting combination!
Sounds like a good combo!
A wonderful duo!
Oh that sounds nice!
Having a groundhog day in Lalibela.
I need to try that, sounds lovely.
I really think you would like Lalibela. I may need a bottle as I only have a travel size at the moment. It has good longevity too. Unfortunately, I’ll have to wait for now as some unexpected expenses popped up.
Hopefully nothing serious?
YES I am lemming that one also.
Stopped and checked my calendar 🙂
Unfortunately not yet…I just hit rewind on yesterday’s scent.
Sneaky movie reference up there!
i’m having a bad day but at least i smell good in amouage imitation woman. i wish they would come out with the mini size bottle like they seem to have for all the other amouages
I hope your day improves!
thanks 🙂 i had some baked goods so things are looking up!
Erf, I’m sorry. Hope things look up soon!
Sorry about the crummy day chibibrooklyn!
Baked goods are amazing. Hope things keep improving!
Boo hiss on the bad day blues!
Today I’m wearing Le Labo Tonka 25.
How do you like it?
SOTD is The Body Shop Shea (both body butter and EDT) for one of those days at work where everybody needs something from me.
I *finally* blind-bought a bottle of Amber Flush body oil after lemming it for more than a year. It arrived yesterday and is, as I should have known, beautiful and perfect. My most-loved blind buys have been Tauers. I’m always blown away by how blazingly-fast my Tauer orders have arrived from Switzerland.
Yay! Glad you are loving it. I love all his oils.
Wondering how long it will be before I cave and blind-buy his new Wowilla oil…
😉
My wowilla arrived today – haven’t tried it yet, but will report in the morning!
Looking forward to your review!
Good timing on getting the Amber Flush body oil!
That one didn’t do it for me like Rose delight, but I appreciate the artistry nonetheless. I will probably have it up at the swap meet or freebie meet.
SOTD is Vetiver Fatal. Getting me through the day until the Hermes Jardin collection coffret I ordered arrives later today. I’ve only actually smelled half of them beforehand, so the rest will be surprises…hopefully nice ones!
I love all the Jardins, which ones did you get?
It includes Monsieur Li, Mediterranee, Sur le Nil and Sur le Toit!
Nice! Mediterranee is my favorite, but I think they are all pretty and easy to wear.
That is the one that convinced me to grab the minis!
I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts about those Hermes when you try them! It took me a little while to warm up to Mediterranee.
Oh Robin, thanks for the reminder to look up gold and silver in other languages. That gives me a couple more options.
Maybe in too many sprays of Bond No 9 Silver Factory. But once I started spraying it was hard to stop because it’s so good. What a sad discontinuation. Probably my favorite Bond No 9. It’s a very good woody incense.
You smell great! I need to wear that this week.
YUMMM. My understanding is that it is still made, just called Silver, because they lost the license to use the Warhol name.
….annnnd I probably should have checked their website before posting. I am out of date! and bummed, I love that one.
Bvlgari Black. Love it. No jewels or precious metals hidden, but all will be well on Friday!
Bvlgari is known for its jewelry, so that totally counts!
I completely forgot about that, so thanks.
You smell good!
Jacques Fath Velours Boise today. It’s one of their new ones that launched in late 2018. It’s nice but I don’t feel like I need more of it than a sample.
Im in Bois de Violette today, no gold here….
Yesterday I came across Chanels N5 body oil in a Duty Free shop. Its gorgeous but I thought it was too expensive. But now I regret it and might have to go to store! I think its a limited edition, right?
Yes, the oil is LE. Call around now as I have heard it is selling out. You smell great btw!
I did see it on the Chanel website and pondered over it myself, but didn’t get it in the end. This was around the holidays so don’t know if it’s still there.
I’ve had duty-free regrets as well, like the pump bottle version of Clinique Body Butter.
Feeling spicy today in Parfums MDCI Fêtes Persanes.
You smell great! I’ve been hoarding my little decant.
Very pretty! Does it remind you of Sacrebleu as well?
I don’t know that I’ve smelt Sacrebleu, so I can’t say, but if I get the chance to compare I will.
It’s now called Sacrebleu Intense and slightly different to the original. Do try it if you can, it’s a beautiful fragrance and much more affordable than Fêtes Persanes.
Mind you, haven’t compared them side by side, just when I first tried Fêtes, I thought of Sacrebleu.
Yum.
It’s entirely the wrong materials category for the CP, but I’m wearing Ombre Leather (2018) anyway. Don’t know why I like it; I just do…
You smell great! I think just because you like it, is the best answer ?
I like it, too, and think you smell great!
“Because I like it” is one of the best reasons to wear a perfume!
Sotd is Moonlight Patchouli. I’ve grown to love this. I have been wearing my sample for about a week every night. It seems to be one that I appreciate more with wear. Oh, and I found my make up bag in my closet, so yay for that??
A random question for Robin…
I was listening to Hendrix’s Watchtower, and wondered if you preferred Dylan’s original? And really if you had any thoughts about it at all?
????
Hope it is sunny there today!
Sadly, no. I’m under another advisory til tomorrow. It’s raining and windy, but later we are getting a big temp drop and snow. I think it’s going to be 9 degrees tomorrow morning.
Oh yuck! We have sun today! I will send some!??
Hope there’s lots more Moonlight Patchouli — and much less snow — in your future!
Yay for finding your makeup bag! I hate it when I misplace things. I recently found some bracelets that I had been searching for… for about 4 years!
Glad you found your makeup bag! It drives me crazy when I misplace things but kind of a relief when they surface.
I very much prefer Dylan’s original, but it is not a favorite song in any case.
There is probably a Dylan song where I prefer the cover but offhand can’t think of what it would be.
And meant to ask — which do you prefer?
I prefer the Hendrix version, but I wouldn’t say it’s better, just different. Not one of my favorite songs either.
I think it does top most lists of best Dylan covers.
I thought of a cover I prefer, though…
The Glen Hansard version of You Ain’t Going Nowhere, from the soundtrack to the movie I’m Not There.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgrn77geQJU
Eau Sacree by Heeley for this cold und drizzly weather. My only precious metal or Jewel scent will have to wait for friday.
You smell great!
I love Eau Sacrée, you smell wonderful.
Yum. I really like Eay Sacre. It reminds me of Cardinal but easier to wear. You smell great!
SOTD = Le Labo Vanille 44
… for an overcast rainy day. We had tiny bits of crunchy ice on the ground this morning, now it’s just a miasma of foggy grey wet. Better this than snow!
In other news, the company where my sister is a contractor is being bought. Although she has not been told about continuation or termination of services, she is starting a job search and feels that she has to bow out of our sisters vacation. She has the right priorities as we can always plan another trip. In the meantime, my other sister and I are still proceeding. As such, I have a question for the community —. Have you ever used walking sticks on a hike and if yes, what is the model of the walking sticks and would you recommend them. Thank you!
Mine are Black Diamond Trail Ergo Cork. Ergonomic cork handgrips, adjustable length, lightweight. I like them.
Sorry your one sister can’t join you. Maybe next year!
Thanks for the recommendation. Foldable is definitely the way I want to go.
We’ll plan another susters’ trip soon!
Best of luck to your sister, and sorry she won’t be able to join you on your sisters’ vacation! (I love that you do one, though.)
Thank you, Koyel!
https://www.wildernessmag.co.nz/2018s-best-walking-poles/
I think sticks are a mixed blessing depending on your fitness ( and health, such as knee or hip problems) and terrain. I find them useful if it is very steep, uneven surface or snow/ ice …but only if the track is wide enough to actually find space for them . A lot of our tramping tracks are just blazed ( markers on trees, single dirt track) and the poles can catch on surrounding roots, bushes, trees which is really annoying. If I am carrying a heavy pack they can be good for hauling the bidy up the hill. Poles add a sense of security and stability on downhills…where they are most useful in my opinion…and ease the pain to your knees. I just find them irritating on flat walks. They don’t do much for me on the flat but swing around and distract me from zoning into nature ( so I end up carrying them). So 10/10 on downhills and 0/10 on flat…but it all depends on your knees/ hips, comfort and how much weight ( backpack) you are carrying.
Also two poles are better than one so it could be an expense if you only use them once a year. I think most brands are good so try them for comfort ( hand grip) and ease/ speed of height adjustment ( you may want to adjust them during your walk if you go from steep ground to flat and so you want that process to be simple) and ease of folding away when not in use.
Thanks for the recommendation. I am definitely getting a pair and not just one stick/pole. Good points about state of health / fitness and terrain. We will be carrying day packs ( I have to limit the what if’s and not iveroack). Our lugggage will be transported for us.
Your vacation plans sound like an adventure. Sorry ypur sis had to bow out.
There’s always next year. I should warn my sister not to assign me navigation duties. One of my sister’s co-workers is joining us.
Do you mind sharing the company you are using for your trip?
Hi KatieP! I’m happy to share. Please email me – click on my user name to get contact info.
Taking into consideration Vanille 44 price and current world prices for the spice itself, you are wearing something very precious today 🙂
Sorry for changes in your plans and hope your sister’s situation resolves quickly. Though, are you, well, she sure she can’t take that vacation? If she changes jobs, the next time she has a vacation might be not too soon. With the time for search and interviews (which might take some time even in this boom economy), it’ll be even longer. So, unless something extravagant money-wise was planned (which I doubt reading your question about a walking stick 🙂 ), maybe it’s wise to get some rest before she needs to be in her best form for finding the next job? Just a thought.
Well, if I include the cost of getting new gear, I have to add $$$s to the overall cost.
Better for her to estimate for the worst case than to plan based on the best case, but I definitely hear you on the take vacation while you have the time but alas, her mind is made up.
Hope your trip can go forward as originally planned. Sisters vacations are such fun! (I admit we occasionally bring along a brother-in-law to manage the baggage, etc., but it’s just not the same…)
Your question about walking sticks reminds me that I’d very much like to do the Camino de Santiago before I get too old!
Haha on bringing along a brother in law to handle the baggage. No such luck for us since the BIL is the male equivalent of a prima donna.
Sorry to hear about your sister’s job potential job situation. She deserves a lot of credit for planning ahead. In the meantime, I hope that you and your other sister enjoy the vacation. What is the destination, if you don’t mind me asking?
Italy – Naples and the Amalfi Coast!
Angela’s post yesterday inspired me to wear vintage Bellodgia extrait today. No CP points, but I smell wonderful!
Yes you do 🙂
Your SOTD is beautiful!
ELDO Fils de Dieu today. First time wearing it in colder weather and I think I like it better in the cold. I like it in the heat, but sometimes it’s too sweet for me when it’s hot.
I start my online bachleor’s of nursing program today after about 20 years of procrastination, and I already don’t understand the 1st assignment, lol. We’ll see how this goes…
You are a champ! Good on you for starting the course. I always think a rocky start is a good sign that things will get better and become more enjoyable.
Thanks Kanuka! I hope so ?
Congrats on the nursing program! It will all come together for you in no time.
Plus, Fils de Dieu is sooooooo good! 🙂
Thanks Jadain GA!
It is good and I don’t wear it often enough.
Uh oh, good luck!
Thanks Koyel! I’ll need it!
Good for you Elisa P! I’ll be joining you in the fall.? My first bachelors was in Psychology and I have also been procrastinating!
Good for you and best of luck to you, too! They keep threatening to require it for licensing and I don’t want to be stuck scrambling at the last minute if they actually decide to enforce it. I picked the shortest program (and least expensive) I could find. It’s going to cut into my perfume budget unfortunately, lol. I only have to do the nursing courses, though, which is great.
Oh gosh, good for you! You will do great!???
Thanks lillyjo! I hope so!
With luck there will be good online support and a sense of community.
That would be my hope, though I emailed the instructor early this am asking for a few points of clarification regarding the assignment due this Thursday, and I haven’t gotten a reply ? That’s kind of a bummer already as I’d like to not wait til the last minute. It was one of my hesitations of doing online vs in-person school. So we’ll see…
Good for you for going back to school! It’s a whole different world than it was 20 years ago!
Thanks! Yes, it is! I think the online bit is more what makes me anxious. Not being able to ask questions and get responses in real time.
Oh wow, what a big and wise and exciting step…going back to school. Good luck, you got this! 🙂
Thanks Jiji! I appreciate the support ?
i get more of the herbs in the cold, in summer its sweeter on me too
It’s the same sweetness for me, but I think I just tolerate sweet better in the winter. I have a low sweetness tolerance, in general.
Oh, good on you — going back to school is a big, brave step! You’ll be back in the game in no time —
Thanks FearsMice! Missing my freedom already, lol!
Big congratulations to you in starting school! That’s really brave. Best of luck with your studies! ???
I agree with you on Fils de Dieu… I’ve tried it in all 4 seasons now, and prefer it in cooler weather.
Yum!
Good luck! You’ve taken the first step, which is such a hard thing to do.
You smell great!
That’s awesome!
Congratulations! That’s great!
https://www.lrb.co.uk/blog/2018/12/20/chris-larkin/no-turtle-doves/
Nice piece about the 12 days of christmas, turtle doves and partridges and the current cost of buying everything listed in the song from the London Review of Books.
I saw that you had plough Monday and yesterday we had haymaking Tuesday. Not an official day but the activity on the hill opposite. It’s started a bit later than usual because it has been such a wet spring/ summer, with lots of fresh growth The grasses are higher than I have ever seen them and hayfever is going nuts. Wearing a smidgen of epidor ( epi d’or?!) from a sample ? I really like it , near the top of my buy list.
$39,000!
Yes…I wonder how they figured out the cost of the leaping lords?
🙂
Kanaka, thank you again for the pen recommendations. I ordered, which came today, a pink and grey Kaweco Perkeo in medium. It’s super. It had one cartridge inside the pen, extras will be here tomorrow. Very smooth writing. ?
Yikes. Kanuka. Spell check ?
Hey that’s great. I quite often buy Herbin cartridges because they come in cute tins and nice colours ( and some perfumed) . Ink with shellac in it will clog your pen so don’t get drawing/dip pen ink. I refill my cartridges using a syringe. The Australians also make some great ink…and perfumed inks
Perfumed ink?? That’s amazing
Oh, you smell wonderful! I need to arrange my holidays to be near hay making – I miss the sounds and smells so much.
I woke up to pouring rain this morning and so I’m staying in, enjoying a mystery and the warmth of kitties on either side of my knees. It looks like I’m stuck here for a while, they are both asleep. SOTD is Absolue pour le Soir.
Great way to be stuck!
You are catted and you smell great. 🙂
That sounds like a perfect way to start the day.
My goodness, that sounds perfect 🙂
The beautiful teapot is very on theme, Robin. Like some I picked a scent from a jewellery house: Boucheron.
And it wasn’t so badly priced, either. Too bad Teavana is gone.
Agreed. I used to enjoy sipping samples of tea during my trips to the mall. Maybe that’s why they went out of business…
I’ll check out Mortgage Lifter! I like the name! But don’t take too much heed of my poor results with the fancy named heirlooms. Maybe it was just a bad year for tomatoes, period.
Meant for Jada up top. Apologies!
It sure was for me. Worst tomato crop I’ve ever had! And just the saddest tomato plants.
My tomatoes were awful this year too. Blossom end rot and almost no production. I was giving them away by the bag in 2017.
I thought this community project would be an easy one for me, but I’ve realised that most of my jewel-inspired perfumes are a bit too warm for the sunny days we’re basking in right now – a good problem to have! I’m feeling hot and sweaty over breakfast 🙂
Iris Poudre is a perfume that I think of as quite cold, so that’s what I’ll be wearing today.
Stomach still slightly off. I don’t know why. Dryad works though!
I hope you recover soon.
Thank you! I hate to be so whingy. It’s just a low level GI upset, but it’s making me a little nuts. Ah well. Welcome to 2019.
Ew! Sorry to hear that your stomach is still giving you fits.
Yuck. Feel better soon!
I’m wearing CdG 888 and feeling quite clever doing so!
It should be 8 88, oops!
Is that the one that was supposed to smell like gold?
Yep. It does have a metallic smell. It’s an interesting herbal-metallic-incense-floral combination. I like it quite a lot.
I really appreciate that CdG has made so many unusual fragrances!
That is on my list for this week, and was SURE I was the only one who had thought of it!
How clever! I did not know about the gold connection.
SL Iris Silver Mist for this grey day (I’m not complaining, just stating the fact).
My decant is quite old but still good. I’ll finish what I have eventually but I’m not sure I’d want more even of this version, and I have not tried it recently, so I might not like the newer version at all. But I will test it when the time comes. Probably.
I bet you smell amazing! I love ISM.
I have the version with the duo and a black spray canister.
I wondered when ISM will appear this week. 🙂 This scent is not for me, but I am sure you smell nice.
Sampling Armani Prive Eau de Jade which is a gentle citrus musk. Nice but can’t see ever buying a bottle
I found it quite boring and eventually swapped mine away.
I was in a terrible hurry this morning and almost ran out of the door without applying fragrance…. Then I spotted a mini my husband received from a friend. It was Terre d’Hermès Eau Intense Vetiver.
It is not bad, more peppery and sweeter than the original (as far as I can remember). But its a little boring after a while.
Still have not tried that one! I love the original as it is though.
I’m in 24 Faubourg because it smells how glittering jewels should smell.
Exquisite!
Very classy!
Ríen Intense Incense today, my latest purchase and the only one for 2018. I’ve smelled it all day on me. I need to do a side by side with the regular Ríen. The incense in RII is BIG.
Rainy day today, but no wintry mix, so I’ll take that trade off! It even hadn’t been a heavy rain, but mostly scattered bits of drizzle. Snow has been hinted at for the weekend forecast, though. I doubt that it will be much of anything. Snow usually doesn’t make an appearance in my area until later on in the winter. ❄☃
SOTD = Elizabeth & James Nirvana Rose, from the sample stash. This has landed on my FB list. Now the question is, will I bother doing something about it?
You know, I was sure I would like Bourbon most, but really I think Rose is the best of the bunch. The only thing that stops me from getting it, is I associate it with my friend. Everyone here keeps saying, when are we getting real snow? I’m like, uh.. It’s early January, it’s coming..
But each day, we get closer to spring!
I’ve heard that it has been unusually warm in the Midwest lately. My thinking is that it can’t last. February and March are coming, and they can be really nasty weather-wise.
I *have* noticed that they days are getting longer! There’s a bit more light in the late afternoons, which makes me happy.
Oooops, that should be “the days”!
I wafted pretty today in Indochine. Another day spent at the office working and with zero distractions and yet I still didn’t get as much done as I need to. What gives?? Maybe it’s not me but the work load. Imagine that
Being overworked and underpaid is a chronic condition nowadays. At least you smell wonderful!
It is indeed – in addition to the general glorification of busyness or work-stress as a badge of honor. Trying not to contribute to that, I have stopped asking people if they have had a “productive break” (the implication being we should be using our break to get the work done that we didn’t have time to during the semester) and instead ask if their break was restful?
Good call on what to ask about a break! People need to take time out and unwind from everything.
They do! What’s the point otherwise?
I’ve noticed that when people “complain” about being busy, so often it sounds like bragging. Is there a word in English for “bragging disguised as complaining”? If not, there should be.
Haha – I like that idea! Bragplaining? Or maybe that’s too obvious.
“Complagging”?
Definitely worth trying out for real and seeing if it takes!
Hahaha. I think that’s #humblebrag.
I am trying that toooooo! I’m approaching it just by trying to work less and swallowing my feelings of shame. I’ll get there.
There is no shame in seeking balance in life – although I realize that balance can also be a privilege and not an option for some. But if you can take a break, or take it easy, then go for it!
Hello friends! Crazy day at work so just checking in. Thank you all so much for the condolences yesterday. They meant a lot.
I’m in vintage Shalimar extrait (thanks to a wonderful NSTer) just because. The top notes are a little off but it still dries soooo wonderfully.
I am sorry for your loss KellyC. Take it easy.
Come sit next to me! You smell so amazing. I looove vintage Shalimar extrait!
I’m continuing to document all my perfumes in my spreadsheet. I’m not including samples, decants, or bath/body products (even though bath oils can be worn as perfume), and I have not yet gotten around to all my minis, and yet I am still up to ~120 bottles and over 3000 mL of perfume. I am estimating the amount left in each bottle, so that 3000 mL is the actual amount I have, not just the original capacity of all the bottles.
I have some questions for those of you who have sold perfumes before. How/where did you sell them (eBay or some other format)? Was it worthwhile for the amount of money you cleared? What would you say is the minimum sales price that you feel makes it worthwhile, after accounting for fees, shipping, and time/energy to take photos, post the listing, watch the bids, pack and ship, etc.? Would you recommend bothering with the time and hassle of selling, or not?
I have been looking at eBay and such to get a rough idea of the possible selling price of the perfumes I am planning to get rid of; most of them are not particularly valuable individually, although the total value of multiple bottles could be worthwhile. One really got my attention, though–I have a 1 oz. bottle of Frances Denney Interlude Bath and Body Perfume from that is ~20 years old. It is used, but just barely, as it is still about 95% full. I saw completed listings for used 1/2 oz. bottles that sold for close to $100! I was surprised by this, as I don’t recall it as being very expensive when I bought it.
I can’t help with the ebay question. I can tell you that twenty years ago, I was selling perfume at a dept store and Francis Denney had relaunched Interlude, I believe in blue package? Anyway, I have never seen people so devoted to one scent. It was highly sought after, and in my area, we were the only store that carried it. It might be a decent asking price. Also, I purchased perfume once from Letgo *no affiliation. It was easy and local. No shipping, just met up at the mall.
Holy cow! That’s a lot. I have sold a few perfumes on eBay! I think your threshold for a sale being worthwhile really depends on you, your financial situation, and your tolerance for hassle. I haven’t yet had a bad experience selling, but I hear some people have. For me, it’s worthwhile if I can net at least $25. Everything I’ve sold on eBay has been at a loss (ie, I bought it for more money than I netted from selling it), but it was still worth it to me because it cleared up space AND got me some money that, uh, I could spend to get new perfume. Doing swaps and freebies on NST trained me and helped me develop an efficient method of packaging/shipping for eBay, so that by the time I sold my first bottle on eBay, it wasn’t that much of a hassle.
Do note that you will have to pay both an eBay fee AND a PayPal fee :-/ but shipping will be slightly cheaper using PayPal.
Yes, I totally forgot the PayPal fee!
Long answer. Several years ago, I sold close to 200 bottles on eBay. I did not get in return what I paid, but I did fine. It was fun to sell. I photographed batch codes and took closeups etc. I spent (by choice) too much money on packaging, free shipping, and included freebies, like soaps and samples. I recommend to add some sort of disclaimer that scent is subjective, all noses are different…I have noticed several sellers I buy from now have something to this effect on their listings. Of all the bottles I sold, two people complained about the perfume not smelling as they remembered. I let them keep the bottles and the buyers were refunded. Both bottles were practically new and not cheap, so it was a waste of my time and money. The second time this happened, I decided I would rather give bottles away to friends on NST or donate to charity. But it really was fun, so good luck! I just let some bad apples ruin it for me. I took it too personally. ?
200! Wow!
Well, as a beneficiary of your shift to giving bottles away to NSTers, I can’t get too mad at your bad apples. But good for you for selling so much!!!
It was actually fun to get the listing ready. I’d have some cute background, lighting…omg. It was an accumulation of many years’ worth of perfume to sell. But it’s more meaningful to share here with people such as yourself. I’ve enjoyed being a swapper with you!
Awww <3 me too, flopper!
I'm so lazy. My boyfriend has a fancy camera with great focus settings, so that's what I used to take super-emo pics of my bottles. But I was too lazy to make cute backgrounds–I just took pics on wooden tables in daylight. I'd love to see pics of your bottles, if you saved them 🙂
I’ve got a good camera, but I never seem to be able to get the lighting and background right to get good pics. I thought if a few of the bottles were worth selling, I could use the money to help pay for one of my other hobbies, such as attending music workshops. I don’t expect to get back as much as I paid for the bottles–after all, they are used, and I don’t have the original boxes for most of them–but anything I would get would be more than I would get from them just sitting around my house unused. I have enjoyed swapping on NST, but I really need to reduce the amount of perfume I have, so I need to either give bottles away or swap waaay down (a bottle for a small decant, for example, or several bottles for one bottles). I have considered trying to swap for something other than perfume, but I don’t really know what.
Many I sold didn’t have boxes, some were about 90% full and they sold. I say go for it, because the money you make is money you can use for other things! At the end of the day, people are still nice out there ? I might try selling again.
Checking in quite late tonight; I sprayed on some Cuir de Lancome as my SOTE after a very busy day.
My hubby is feeling a bit under the weather with a sore throat. He was kind of in a mood I guess as I jokingly asked him if he had his “poopy-pants” on when he didn’t want any chocolate; he nearly bit my head off. Men are such babies!
Hahahaha awww. Yes, they are 🙂
Or some decide to be all macho and refuse to see a doctor when they ought to. ?
