Lazy weekend poll ~ five favorites, again

Posted by Robin on 27 October 2018 258 Comments

A variation on a poll we did a couple years ago. Name your favorite fragrance (at the moment) in each of these five categories:

1. no-brainer / go-to perfume?

2. fun perfume?

3. romantic perfume?

4. relaxing / de-stressing perfume?

5. I-Mean-Business (whatever that means to you!) perfume?

Or, as always, just talk about something else.

Now that I’ve read your answers, I can’t believe I didn’t list an incense scent as my relaxing scent! Passage d’Enfer would be my relaxing incense.

Happy weekend to everyone! I’m quite enjoying the Saturday even if it’s not the warmest or sunniest one. Got to do some shoe-hunting over weekend or next week.

    I love polls, let’s see…

    1. Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue or Purple Rain
    2. Berdoues Vanira Moorea
    3. Van Cleef & Arpels Rose Rouge
    4. Chanel Boy or Histoires de Parfums 1725
    5. MFK Grand Soir

    1. No-brainer: Chamade. I love the bit tergreen top and the pitch-perfect drydown lasts all day (and washes off immediately, which is not the case with a lot of modern favorites).

    2. Fun: Covet. I wore this in high school and it follows a sort of similar path to Chamade. Wet greens, followed by big chocolatey hit. Weird and comfortable.

    3. Romantic: Jour d’Hermes parfum. Smells like couture, rich peach silk with a hint of green.

    4. Relaxing: Dzongkha. Incense and iris? Sold.

    5. I-Mean-Business: Either Mitsouko (if I’m optimistic) or Miel de Bois (if I’m pessimistic). Lucky for other people that in an optimist! :)

Love your #3. I’ve never been a fan of the “normal” JdH (edp? Edt?), but a really kind NSTer sent me some parfum and I’m totally in love with it.

I love every iteration but the parfum really is magic. There were 50ml spray testers floating around the discount sites about a year ago and I bought 3. I know that is probably enough but I still feel like I should have gotten more. I’m a bit of a hoarder though. :)

No brainer: Carner Barcelona D600. Fits any situation, any setting, any wardrobe, all seasons.

Fun: Bombay Bling. It just makes me smile.

Romantic: Old-time romantic, when I pretend I have long, flowing dark hair (instead of a gray pixie) is L’Heure Bleue parfum. New romantic, when I’m just me on a date, is MFK Amyris Femme.

    Relaxing: Stash. Quiet but interesting.

I-Mean-Business: Thankfully I’m retired so I don’t have to mean business very often, but I’d wear Salome, both for her ruthlessness and for the smell of someone who might have just finished a brutal gym workout and shouldn’t be messed with.

Bertie Wooster spent last night walking on me, purring, and licking my face. He usually sleeps through the night next to me, so I am hoping his restlessness doesn’t signal that something is wrong.

Bertie Wooster has got to be the cutest pet name evah! What’s your dog’s name?

      • foxbins says:

The dog is a Tibetan Mastiff named Nima, which means “Sun” in Tibetan. I also had a Luna at the time, so I was keeping to a celestial theme. The rescue cat threw a monkey wrench into that, as she wasn’t the least bit interested in answering to anything other than “Kitty.” I’ve also had cats named Lindsay (after NYC’s mayor at the time) and Erich von Manstein.

You have no idea how happy it makes me that NST-ers know the Bertie Wooster reference. The vet office was clueless, as is everyone else I’ve told his name. You people are a well-read bunch!

But really, Bertie Wooster is the best name.

    1. No-brainer for me is Theorema, or Douce Amere. Never a disappointment with either.

    2. I love les carottes – super fun. Also, Vanira Moorea.

    3. Bois de Paradis – not romantic in a sexy way, but in a lush meadow, jewel-toned brocade, Pre-Raphaelite sort of way.

    4. Jaisalmer usually calms me down.

    5. When I want to feel like I’m walking through the world well balanced yet with a strong presence, I wear Ava Luxe No. 23.

Sprayed Safran Troublant on my coat by accident yesterday, so I still smell charmingly of a gourmand spicy vanilla :)

Everyone who told me Iceland is super expensive was totally right. Sheesh. I’ve gotten a few $5-$10 bars of not very exciting chocolate to give friends as souvenirs, some interesting sounding jerkies, and nothing else to take back. The sweaters I had my eye on are ~$200, and while they’re wonderfully fluffy, they’re quite scratchy, and besides, I live in California, so perhaps I don’t precisely need one. Oh well, I’ll have photos and memories to bring back.

I walked into a really lovely boutique yesterday and found to my dismay that it was a French épicerie. I wandered around anyway and came across a yummy looking hyaline jelly moisturizer by Feret Parfumeur that felt really nice. It was about $30 for 50 ml in the boutique. Thusly anchored, I was thrilled to find out that it was only $17.50 on Amazon and ordered it right away. Soon after, I realized that I had just spent $17.50 on 50 ml moisturizer and felt a bit badly, but hey, it’s less than I had spent on a small bowl of soup earlier in the day, so there you have it. I will pretend it is a souvenir from Iceland, and it’s ok to overspend on souvenirs, right?

We went to Dill for dinner last night! Having read that it was the best restaurant in the WORLD, I was super excited. Sorry to report that it really isn’t, though it is really adorable and quite tasty. I don’t even think it’s the best restaurant in Scandinavia (our meal at Matbaren in Stockholm has it best in taste, though not in presentation).

    1. No brainer: Trayee! Or maybe Venenum.
    2. Fun: Slowdive, I think. That beeswax is so fabulous! Or else maybe Mirus Silver Lining, because it makes my boyfriend think I’ve tracked in dirt.
    3. Romantic: Me: “is there a perfume I wear that you think of as romantic?” Boyfriend: “No. None.” Great. Maybe Mohur? Or Bois des Îles extrait. Or Sa Majesté la Rose. Something with a really smooth texture.
    4. Relaxing: Histoire d’Orangers does the trick.
    5. I Mean Business: Sycomore for the win! Chanel does backbone so well.

I KNOW. And not at a fancy restaurant or anything—just at a normal cafe! Now imagine a whole city priced like that. I live in the Bay Area, so I’m rarely surprised by high prices in other places, but Reykjavík has managed it.

Wonder if they have kamaaina rates for locals, as they do for some things in Hawaii. Either that or their wages must be great. London shocked me, and this sounds worse.

I did not SEE different rates, though perhaps there still are. I believe I read that the median income in Iceland is higher than in the US, and certainly I think they have better support networks, but I do still think things cost a lot for them. On the other hand, housing and land seem very cheap, so maybe things work out :)

Things are waaaaay pricier here than in London for sure!

Thank you for you trip reports! It looks like you’ve had a great vacation so far. I am following your itinerary with interest, as I am planing a similar trip for early next year, with the main objective being to see the aurora borealis. Have you been able to see it after all?

      • Koyel says:
        27 October 2018 at 5:31 pm

No :( the moon has been terribly bright. Consider checking the moon calendar before booking a trip.

And actually, the roads are just fine, so don’t hesitate to rent a car if you feel good about driving in a foreign country (I don’t, but my boyfriend does, so that’s what he plans to do next time). If you do rent a car, there’s no need to go with a tour group to see the aurora—just go way out of town, park in a turnout, and take pics of the black night sky anytime you think you see it lightening in color. If the photo looks like there are green streaks in the sky, there’s a good chance that if you just sit tight, a full aurora will come your way.

Or just go with a company and they’ll do all that work for you :) we liked tours with Sterna and Gateway to Iceland, and were less enthusiastic about Bustravel Iceland.

I have plenty more advice if you’re interested! Email me at kobhatta at the jeemayle if you’d like the long version in a few days :)

I’m at the hospital’s urgent care waiting while my boyfriend gets a CT scan for the stomach cramps I mentioned yesterday. Hoping for a diagnosis soon so things can move along. We left almost as soon as we woke up, and I didn’t put any scent on. Rare for me. I did smell someone’s nice iris perfume in the hallway, maybe Infusion d’Iris. I’ll try to have a brain to answer the poll questions later.

Also, I rescheduled a hair appointment last weekend because I wasn’t feeling well with sinus and allergy issues. Now I’m supposed to get a cut at 5 today (5.5 hours from now), and I feel like I’ll need to cancel again. It’s always something.

Earlier when they first mentioned surgery and we met with the surgeon we didn’t realize how long it would take for surgery to actually happen. He was scheduled for 5:15, but they didn’t start until 5:35. It’s been a very long day, but I’m glad he can start feeling better soon. I’ll probably spend the night at home because I’m so exhausted and a cot at the hospital doesn’t sound at all appealing.

therabbitsflower – if I may suggest, depending on how long he’s in the hospital, you may want to get him ear plugs (they should have some at the nurses station), if he’s sharing a room with another patient, ear plugs will help him get some much-needed rest.
Take it from someone who is frequently in the hospital, ear plugs and personal care wipes so he can freshen up are the most frequently used items in my hospital bag.

I hope he is feeling better today. :)

He’s still at the hospital but doing well. He had a fever through the night, but it’s down to 99 now. I think they’re keeping him here to monitor for a few more hours. The surgeon told me there was a perforation in the appendix, not a rupture, and that it was contained. So that was better than what could have been.

I went home late last night to sleep, though I didn’t sleep as much as I’d like. I’m at the hospital now, showered and fresh. I put on a perfume oil today, L’aromatica Pumpkin Honey. It’s subtle and comforting.

No brainer: Camelia Intrepide by Atelier Cologne or Philosykos. Or Timbuktu. Eau de Merveilles.
    Fun: Vanille Insensee, Champaca
Romantic: Galop? I don’t have a great fit, but I guess anything rose-centered would work for me. Or Petit Matin, for general romantic Paris vibes.
    Relaxing: Tam Dao edp
I mean business: My Burberry – more for the sillage than for the scent itself. Also AC Oud Saphir, same reason.

Probably forgetting some. In Tolu today, it’s somehow relaxing but gloomy at the same time, and just gorgeous.

I lazed away this Saturday, I need to show some actual productivity tomorrow. Hope everyone’s having a great weekend!

    1. no-brainer / go-to perfume?
    Nicolaï New York Intense.

    2. fun perfume?
Hmm… This is difficult. I think my perfumes and I are all quite serious. Maybe Neela Vermeire Bombay Bling? Or maybe Youth Dew Amber Nude? There’s a ginger-y lightness and freshness to it that makes it less serious than Youth Dew. Oh yes and CdG 2 Man!

    3. romantic perfume?
Maybe more nostalgic than romantic: Nicolaï Sacrebleu Intense. I loved Luca Turin’s review of Sacrebleu: “Sacrebleu has the exact feel of those lights, a low hum that may be eclipsed by diurnal clamor but rules supreme when, at 3 a.m., you know you are looking into your true love’s eyes even though you can’t see them.” So beautiful. My favourite line from him.

    4. relaxing / de-stressing perfume?
    L’Artisan Dzongkha. Guerlain Vétiver.

    5. I-Mean-Business (whatever that means to you!) perfume?
So many in this category: Bandit, Jolie Madame, Fracas (Yes I LOVE Germaine Cellier), No. 19, Aromatics Elixir…

Happy weekend everyone! I’m settled in for my usual Saturday routine alternating freelance work with snacking on leftovers and cat-naps-with-cat. Bliss. Enjoying my first try of Derby thanks to a generous NSTer; it feels especially appropriate today because I’ve recently gotten into Dick Francis so now all my reading is about horse crimes.

    1. no-brainer / go-to perfume – L’Artisan Thé Pour Un Été
    2. fun perfume? – Chinatown
    3. romantic perfume? – Vintage Ivoire, the one I got married in
    4. relaxing / de-stressing perfume? – L’Artisan Tea for Two
    5. I-Mean-Business (whatever that means to you!) perfume? – Maybe vintage Equipage

Olympic Orchids question! What are the absolute must-tries, in your opinion? I would love it if you would stick to just the one or two you absolutely love; I’m planning a sample order but want to keep it small.

Blackbird – blackberry /pine (but it is powerful so go easy otherwise it is a bit room freshner)

    Relaxing- Kyoto
    Romantic – Vol de Nuit

    4. Zagorsk
    5. Chanel no 19

I am wearing SDV and binge watching Chicago Fire. I found a Luckyscent gift card my sister gave me last year for my birthday. I used it for the La Masion Vanilla set. I haven’t smelled any of them but for the price, it’s a bargain.

    1. No-brainer: lately it’s Tam Dao, or L’Artisan tea for two. They just smell good!

    2. Fun: Amor Amor by Cacharel. An old perfume friend (probably my first!) that I’ve recently been reacquainted with.

    3. Romantic: Noir Pour Femme by Tom Ford.

    4. Relaxing: Dior Homme is my pick right now, but I’ve realized lately that this is a niche in my collection that isn’t properly filled.

    5. I-mean-business: Shalimar if I want to make a grand entrance, Silent Films by Goest if I want to be a force to be reckoned with!

    1. no-brainer / go-to perfume: Ormonde Woman – I think I’m starting to get tired of this one though. I remember reading on here that other people get to where they can only smell the Iso-E super, maybe I’m at that point?

    2. fun perfume: Lolita Lempicka Sweet – It sure is sweet :)! I get lots of compliments on it. The lady that does our yard maintenance at my office asked if she could find it at Walmart (we have no shopping nearby) to wear to her wedding the following weekend. I gave her my nearly full bottle & ordered a new one later. It’s so fun to find someone to share with.

    3. romantic perfume: Hermes Hiris or Lolita Lempicka L’Eau en Blanc

    4. relaxing / de-stressing perfume: Burberry Brit Rhythm – It’s so inexpensive at TJ Maxx. The first time I sprayed it I thought I made a terrible mistake, but it dries down nicely.

    5. I-Mean-Business perfume: Chanel No. 19 EDT

Posting this on about 2 hours of sleep so I can’t be responsible for content ????

    1. A toss-up between Box of Eels and Un Bois Vanille. The gloves are off and the throw down is about to begin.

    2. Fun…? Hmmm, I would say the closest I have to that is Queen. She sails through the world like Cleopatra’s barge, tossing scented goods hither and yon to the adoring populace like Mardi Gras beads.

    3. Papillion’s Salomé. She’ll cure you or kill with her straight up, aggressive, take no hostages love!

    4. Most of my collection is designed to ease my worried mind. From Anna Polska, to Ummagumma, to Vetiver Oriental. They all access my limbic system by different pathways and make me take a deep and sustaining breath.

    5. Well, Salomé means business in a “get busy” way, but I’d have to say Zelda takes me on a ride that keeps me very busy and a bit on edge, in a good way. Like hitting rush hour traffic but finding secret corridors opening and closing in front of and behind you as you whiz in and out, leaving everyone else in the dust. You have discovered you can travel through life in different ways, and on different planes of existence, and the maze that life IS has just become a straight shot, pedal to the metal, crash helmet on. Very exhilarating.

That’s all, folks! Time to go catch up in comments, bottom up✌????

Wrappings has a fizzy opening note from the aldehydes that is almost like Sprite or 7-Up bubbles. It brings a smile to my face every time I spritz it. I think it’s still available on counter in November at certain brick and mortar stores like Bloomingdales. It’s available as a gift set online at Clinique dot com, and they discount it by 30% post-holiday.
My bottle is from the mid-1990’s, so it’s a little different from today’s current formulation. I should do a side by side with the newer .85 oz version to test.
I’ll do that tomorrow and let you know the result. :)

Hi Gail, I’m late in responding, we went to dinner and the theater today. I’ve got both vintage (mid-1990s) Wrappings and a newer version (circa 2013 or so). In a side by side, both start out fizzy, with herbal, oceanic and aldehydic notes.
In the far dry down, the contemporary Wrappings retains it’s fresh, sharp, zippy, oceanic notes whereas the vintage wrappings has more woods and is warmer (not sweet though…) and the vintage faded faster whereas the newer is still going strong.

    1. no-brainer / go-to perfume? Chanel anything. I really think of them all as second skin now, even though they are expensive and super well made and luxurious. But lately Penhaligon Iris Prima has been the no brainer of choice.

    2. fun perfume? Tauer Rose Flash. I haven’t worn this much lately and life hasn’t been so much fun. Need to rectify!

    3. romantic perfume? So many in my collection: Un Coeur en Mai, Cuir de Russie, Parfums de Nicolai Weekend a Deauville, Ormonde Jayne Tiare

    4. relaxing / de-stressing perfume? Sooo many; my perfumes are all ultimately tools for this. Vetivers, Iris, smoke, incense all fit this category with Sycomore at the top lately

    5. I-Mean-Business (whatever that means to you!) perfume? Strangely none of my perfumes really fit this feel for me and I don’t really want my perfumes to be smelled by others. But probably Cuir de Russie or Amouage Beloved or No 19 edp

Wearing DIOR Vetiver from the splitmeet thanks to pixel who is awesome. I feel so lucky since I haven’t ever smelled this one and it’s a real beauty- and such lasting power! It’s more masculine than I expected but I really like it.

    1. Go to: Eau de Rochas, les Nuits d’Hadrien, Yuzu Fu. Seasonal citrus. 2. Fun Si Lolita 3. Romantic Santal Majuscule 4. Comfort SL FenA / Habanita 5. Business FM PdT (but also romantic) or Balmain de Balmain or Jolie Madame. These Balmain perfumes have backbone!

L’heuere Bleue, from a decant, edp (vintage?). Now I’m obsessing over this one. I found a vintage online, not sure I want to pay $$, plus it’s always a big gamble on vintages. Just like the bottle of edp I ordered from Amazon, hopefully it’s not from the recalled batch.

No brained: I Miss Violet except I am running out and so have to stop and think whether I want to use it all up! I think I may just need a new bottle.
Fun: Like others, Bombay Bling! Also Dilittante which smells, as a friend told me, like happiness.
Sexy: I’m old and don’t know what that means.
Comfort: Carner Barcelona Cuirs or Papillon Dryad
    Take no prisoners: Misia

Romantic is when you wake up at 3 am to find your dog/cat standing by your bed staring into your eyes even though he doesn’t know why (and you mutter Sacrebleu!)

There’s a chill in the air today, but it’s sunny and I woke up looking forward to mundane errands I run on Saturday morning.

    What fun questions, Robin.

    1. Eau Premiere, I feel I can do no wrong when I wear it and the bonus is that’s it’s office friendly

    2. This summer, the fun season, it was Elizabeth Arden Cabriole

    3. Sortilege, the epitome of romantic for me

    4. From the comments I see many selected incense fragrances, my personal favorite for lounging around and daydreaming is AG Encens Flamboyant

    5. Leathers come to mind as assertive but I tend to like them subtle: V&A Midnight in Paris or Diorling

EF is airier than most other incense fragrances, the main note is frankincense with no labdanum to weigh it down (although I like labdanum often used in incense fragrances it gives a different feel to them, make them more opulent, heavier, the best eg of this is Tom Ford Sahara Noir). EF is also herbal, and slightly spicy; it’s quite unique, I’ve been asked to describe it in ‘recommend me a perfume’ and I compared it to a church in Provence with the scent of the garrigue coming through the door.

Love the comments and how you’re all matching scents to moods/states of being. Mine are:

    1. no-brainer / go-to perfume: Amouage Fate. Always perfect.

    2. fun perfume: This one’s hard, not feeling very fun these days. Probably Jour d’Hermes for its happy grapefruit and positive vibes.

    3. romantic perfume: DelRae Amoureuse, Ubar or vintage Arpege. Arpege is, like vintage Bal, a bit slutty. No risk here, since my bottle seems to have gone off.

    4. relaxing / de-stressing perfume: POTL – love the calming incense.

    5. I-Mean-Business: No 19 EDP – polite, firm, unrelenting. Wearing this a lot lately as armor against office dramas.

    Happy weekend and Go Sox!

I did pick up my phone and start checking emails, unfortunately there were two other people in the room as a captive audience so she continued undeterred. Next time I see her pull into the driveway I will run upstairs and hide. Wish I could do that with my SIL. I told this story in front of her at dinner last night but I doubt she made the connection. She was the other offender.

I spent part of the day paring and organizing my perfume samples. Wow, they accumulate fast. It feels nice to have that done.
    So the poll,
    1) No brainers for me are Satori, Rahele, Lumiere Blanche, Iris 39, Rose de Siwa and Gris Montaigne.
    2) Fun, hmm in my collection probably Fils de Dieu, Five o’clock au Gingembre, Vanilka Hinoki, Kiss Me Tender and Bees Bliss. I guess I have this category covered.
    3) Romantic, Cuir de Lancome, Arpege, and Ylang 49.
    4) Relaxing, Calypso, White, Sballo, Ouarzazate, Ancient Resins and Rose Quartz perfume oil by Sage Machado.
    5) Take Charge. No. 19, of course!

My Scents OTD were many as I reorganized and rediscovered.

It’s fun to read people’s lists. I was struck but not surprised by the very strong showing of incense-centric perfumes in the relaxing category – I agree! I note the prevalence of incense in diverse ritual settings meant to evoke calm, serenity or a feeling of devotion.

    Here is my list
No brainer/go to: Hermes Osmanthe Yunnan, Guerlain L’instant
Fun: Rose Flash I think. Hmm. I need some help in this category. Or maybe I need to have more fun!

Fun poll and interesting to see how people categorize perfumes!

No brainer: lately Bottega Veneta but no 5 EDT and Idylle Love Blossom have filled that role.
    Fun: Hendley Amora
Romantic: Opardu, Idylle Love Blossom, RP Calypso
    Relaxing: Satori, Cuir de Lancome
    I mean business: BF Lamblack

I wore Cire Trudon Revolution Fri night to an outdoor gathering in a community garden and got 2 compliments! But I wonder if they were smelling the wood smoke from the fire they had going. I blended in well.
Yesterday was No 5 EDT and have yet to decide on today’s perfume. Going to get some kitten time at a friend’s who is fostering 4 kittens plucked from the ACC euthanasia list ???? Though, I think they posted them there just to get someone to take them, since they were all relatively healthy and socializable.

Love your list! How could I forget Opardu?

I hope you have some quality kitty time. Bless your friend for taking four.

        Because too much perfume ????
I have you to thank for the Opardu love ????
Yeah, she takes in fosters and kittens on a regular, but her boyfriend just told her she can’t anymore. I don’t blame him since they have a tiny apt and 2 of their own cats so their small living room is always occupied with rescues with the door closed.

It smells best to me when it’s cold and crisp outside. That’s the only time I like smoke, really. I get more of the cool green notes when I’m heavier handed.

    1. no brainer: vintage Miss Dior (actually has plenty of brain, but she never does me wrong)
    2. fun: Rhubarb My Love which I swear smells as sparkling as glitter
    3. romantic: Box of Eels for languid elegant candlelit romance, Couer de Noire for going on an adventure romance, Theo Fennel Scent or Salome for the not leaving the hotel room for three days romance…
    4. let’s-just-hide-in-this-blanket-fort relaxing: Chergui, and standing-in-a-cold-forest escaping-all-humanity de-stressing: Norne
    5. bizniz: Bandit

thanks, Kanuka. It’s going in hiccupy progress, but it’s going! (Loving doing a batch of research interviews at the moment, less keen on transcribing them…)

Hmm… a friend of mine who now lives in NZ is going to be back in Edinburgh over the new year. Can I send you a wee sample of Norne on his return? Or persuade him to mule you anything that is wallet-shatteringly awful to post your way?

That is such a kind offer but I really like just doing my own , random, impulsive, disorganised thing perfume-wise…but thank you.
Glad your research is progressing. Hope critical perfume research isn’t taking too much of a back seat though!

Monday grey, dreary, drizzly and I am not looking forward to work today so I need a kick in the pants and cheer up perfume. I got stuck over the weekend dwelling on the name ‘Brut’ ( having sprayed it when I was in town and bored).. A men’s perfume called Brut. Do they still run advertising for Brut, how is it marketed today…who is the current face of Brut?
    Wearing Marrakech Intense .

      The essence of man!

I know they were still advertising it in the 90s but don’t know past that.

There’s an interesting chapter on Brut in Lizzie Ostrom’s history book PERFUME, which touches on the history you’re talking about. “[Faberge] sponsored a number of sportsmen, notably boxers and football players, athletes at the peak of their performance, in an era which was obsessed with testosterone – the hormonal embodiment of aggression, libido, motivation and strength.” I haven’t seen it advertised at all in the past 20 years though! It doesn’t even show up in the first page of google results (champagne wins out) and the website is super basic. I think it is so well known and “classic” that it’s just coasting on its reputation.

    1. no-brainer / go-to perfume? Bulgari Thé Rouge is one that I go with when I’m not in the mood for any scent in particular. ELDO Noel au Balcon has been sort of a no-brainer for me lately.

    2. fun perfume? Cacharel Amor Amor, Lolita Lempicka, Lush Breath of God, Lush The Smell of Weather Turning (if that one is still around)

    3. romantic perfume? I think L’Heure Bleue could qualify. Somebody else mentioned Bal a Versaille, and I think that might qualify too. Those might be different definitions of romantic, though.

    4. relaxing / de-stressing perfume? I don’t have any since I used up my decant, but PdE Cuir Ottoman was one that I found comforting. I guess L’Instant de Guerlain pour Homme could also fit the bill.

    5. I-Mean-Business (whatever that means to you!) perfume? In the sense of being serious or no-nonsense, I guess Mitsouko or Chanel 19. In the sense of being cool and collected, Prada Infusion d’Iris.

    1. No brainer: n. 5 edt or prada infusion d’iris

    2. Fun: chanel allure or dzing!

    3. Romantic: natori or chanel n.22

    1. No-Brainer: Ineke Idyllwild (cheerful citrus + conifers that goes with everything) or Papillon Anubis (rich suede-saffron that dresses up or down with no fuss)

    2. Fun: Chanel Égoïste pour Homme EdT (kaleidoscope of plummy fruits and aromatic herbs) or L’Aromatica Kulfi (cardamom coconut custard that’s yummy but never too sweet)

    3. Romantic: Edward Bess La Femme Bohème

    4. Relaxing: Mirus Driftwood (airy notes + ambergris & sandalwood; no Ambrox or other synthetic horribleness) or Guerlain Encens Mythique (rich sweet incense, mmmm)

    5. I Mean Business: Amouage Jubilation 25 Woman

Jub 25 seems a bit odd for I Mean Business, but to me it’s so gorgeous and well-put-together that it seems … unassailable, somehow.

I would categorize Jub 25 the same way. It is beautiful, but also assertive and a bit butch imo, so it takes a certain confidence on my part to wear it.

Stressful weekend for me, so I have been doing a lot of field testing for calming/relaxing perfumes. sigh.

#1 No brainers: Bottega Veneta, Samsara Edt, and Ag Encens Flamboyant. Back in the spring, Burberry Brit for Women was working for me.

#2 Fun: Prada Candy, ELdO Fils de Dieu, SJP Covet, CK Euphoria, and TM Angel Muse.

#3 Romatic: Yeah right. I know that I wore perfume on my wedding day, but I can’t remember what it was. :(

#4 Relaxing: Tauer Le Maroc pour Elle, Tauer LAdDM, Tauer Incense Extreme, AG Encens Flamboyant, and JM Myrrh & Tonka. I’n sensing a pattern here…

#5 “I Mean Business”: Chanel No. 19 EdT, Cristalle, Mitsouko EdP. Maybe Silences? Although that one might be more in the “Get It Done!” category.

We had a great weekend in Durango, CO. with friends. We spent the day hanging in Durango and then had a cabin outside of town where we grilled steaks and enjoyed the mountain scenery. It was so relaxing and I am feeling thankful for the time decompressing. Will try and remember it at work tomorrow when I feel stressed haha.

No he doesn’t start until the twelfth of November! If he stays at his current job until the 9th they give him a severance package so he’s trying to stick it out. The new job has been very accommodating of the situation.
