Happy National Coffee Day! We're burning off the caffeine with our usual open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, your favorite fragrance with a coffee note, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Reglisse Noire
What’s going to happen to me on the days when I log in, and you haven’t posted first with reassuring fragrance solidity? Huh? What will I do then, my scented north star?
LOL ???? ????. You may not want me to post because you’ll be sick and tired of me wearing the same thing!!! I am so in love with Reglisse that I have already used one fifth of the bottle !!!!
Love this! Don’t just put on a tiny pinprick, WEAR it, right? I think I’ll wear mine today, too.
Absolutely!!! I have been spraying lavishly and have gotten SO many compliments at work!!! Thanks for talking me into buying it. I think you’ve earned five enabler pins for this one!
Gorgeous! 🙂
I agree 🙂
Good morning, NST!
As promised in the Freebiemeet thread, I’m offering a mystery box of approximately 1 pound of perfume and beauty samples. Mostly perfume samples. Shipping to US only; it’s not that I don’t love you international folks, it’s just that I’m LAZY. Fill out forms? Stand in line at the post office? Uh,,,,, no.
Anyway, here’s my additional rule: only folks who have NOT claimed a mystery box from me in the past year are eligible.
Contact me at emc dawt 7 1 1 7 at gee-mayle.
1 pound!! Wow!!
That’s my usual size for a mystery box >.< Those samples are breeding, I swear.
I’m interested in the mystery box! Should I just email you? I’ll do that – LMK
Yes, email me.
And now for a proper comment.
Recently I identified FM Vetiver Extraordinaire in the wild! It’s only the second time I’ve ever been completely sure I recognized someone else’s scent. And the previous time was an FM too… Portrait of a Lady. AND both times were at the symphony in SF. (cue twilight zone music…)
No scent yet today, and shortly, my scent will be a mix of leaves and sweat. We have rain coming next week! Ack! Must clean out the gutters and drain boxes and blow-dry the leaves away… gonna be a way busy outdoor weekend.
Good luck with that ????????????
Oof, I got it all done, but I think I may never move again…
LOL! I guess you got your exercise for the week 😉
Did not realize wet weather is heading our way. Thank you for the heads up!!
That’s awesome, I rarely have that ability unless it’s glaringly obvious like Chanel No. 5 or Light Blue.
Do you have a subscription and end up sitting in the same spot?
Just for laughs, however way I originally spelled “subscription”, spellcheck changed it to “cubs riptide”.
Nope. Well, yes, I have a subscription, but at SF Symphony that doesn’t get you the same seats every time. They have a nice ‘make your own subscription’ program I really like, where you can choose any concert and whatever category of seating you want for that particular concert.
LOL! bear cubs in a riptide sounds like a scary story.
SOTD Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolu.
SOTE Chanel Cuir de Russie for an evening with my sister’s in-laws who arrived in NY from Italy for the first time on Monday. They are having a super great time here and tonight we will have dinner at one of those boats which go around Manhattan in the Hudson-East River. We have usually done that in summer time when the temps are gorgeous. Beautiful, sunny day in the city, but pretty cool at night time. Well, let’s have a nice time no matter what!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
Beautiful…. everything…. enjoy!!!
Thank you! ????
Nice! Bring a cozy wrap and you’ll be set. Enjoy your weekend✌????
Thank you Deva! Enjoy your weekend too! ????
What a fun night! Have a great time.????
Thank you! ????
Smelling gorgeous! ????
Thank you Flopper! I love Cuir de Russie. It is a beautiful scent and it brings wonderful memories of past times!
It’s a gorgeous day – enjoy!!
I will for sure! ????
You smell wonderful! Have a great time with the visit ????
Thank you Lillyjo! Looking forward to a nice time! ????
Infusion d’Iris Absolue is so elegant and pretty
Love Infusion d’Iris Absolue! One of my favorite iris perfumes and so simple to wear!
This was the first perfume I asked the SA to get me the largest size!
Day two of my sinus infection. So far so okay.
I went with Absolue por le Soir. I need something to last all night.
Feel better soon ????
Oh and Deva reminded me to say how fabulous you smell!!! Try it in the summer!! The honey note shines.
I love it I summer! I almost forget it in winter, honestly.
AplS definitely has some serious lasting power. Sorry about your sinuses, but you smell great!
Thank you! I skipped my Allegra one day and something stuck up there! Luckily it isn’t the kind that feels like an ice pick.
Lots of water, rest, and perfume shopping online 😉
No shopping online for me! I’m waiting till next Saturday to treat myself. 😉
Good advice. I like to shop for perfume online when I’m feeling under the weather, and when I’m feeling good as well…
You smell great and I hope you feel better 🙂
Thank you!
Hope you feel better soon. Question? Do you find Alegra works pretty good? I’ve been using Claritin, and sometimes Benadryl, but I’m still never quite right.
I honestly haven’t tried a lot of allergy medications but I do notice if I don’t take my Allegra!
Thanks, I’m going to give it a try. ????
Have you tried flonase, lillyjo? A comment you made a while back made me wonder if your sinus issues are causing vertigo. If that’s the case, daily flonase + regular sinus rinsing has solved the problem for me.
OUCH! I hope your sinus infection clears soon.
Thank you! I’m optimistic.
Hope you feel better soon Coumarin!
Thank you!
I hope you recover quickly. You smell great!
You smell fabulous. Hope you feel better soon.
Sorry you’re under par, Coumarin. Lots of saline water to flush the nose always helps.
Ugh. Here’s hoping for a quick turnaround!
Testing “Music for a While” from a decant generously included with a Swapmeet trade.
I like the overall structure, but opening has a very sharp note that is not great. Waiting for things to settle
In L’heure bleu Edp from the swap meet – the initial spray on is so so to my nose, but I’m waiting patiently for what I know will be a great dry down!
It’s such an interesting perfume – I think it smelled “inky“ to me, but I don’t know if I was projecting that based on the name
L’heure Bleue never worked for me, however I appreciate its beauty.
I love L’Heure Bleue.
It’s interesting, because to me, this is an easy to wear scent (once it dries down, at any rate) – just fluffy, powdery comfort cloud!
L’Heure Bleue makes me sad as soon as I smell it. I wonder why?
L’Heure Bleue was one of my first perfume loves! You smell wonderful!
L’HB was my second perfume. Hope the drydown doesn’t disappoint.
SOTD is PdN Vetyyver. Warm and cool at the same time. It’s kinda magical like that.
Only 4 more weeks here in Sketch City and I’m hitting the road! Stoked to be getting out of this area. My mucous membranes are so dry that I’m getting nose bleeds when I blow my nose. So gross! This has been my least favorite place so far, although I’m sure much of my ill will has to do with the ridiculous heat here (90F here yesterday!).
Many small things to finalize on the van. I’m hoping to get the woodwork in the back half finished today. The front half is done except for caulking the sink and getting the water hooked up (waiting for a part from my old friend Amazon).
Had a van free day yesterday and went exploring with a friend. We were supposed to hike, but her definition of hiking was walking from the car to roadside historical markers. Oh well, still enjoyable.
So happy my little traveling perfume box will have a snug little cubby to fit in. There will be minimal shifting around and it’s out of the way, but easily accessible at the same time.
Smell well, y’all! The freebiemeet is looking good!
Ha, even lazy old me would not call that a hike — glad it was fun anyway!
Hope the last weeks are better than the first weeks.
Thank you! Cool weather is on the way, so that will surely help????
Countdown!
No kidding Sister Sledge! I’m ready to ???? on down the road????????
I cannot do the desert, kills my sinuses. Hope the 4 weeks go fast!
This may be true for me too, especially with all the fires this past summer. Never been to the desert before and happy if I never come back ????
Haha. Yesterday my husband and I went for a walk down to Lake Merrritt (very small “lake”, maybe 3 and a half miles around, in the middle of Oakland) …. about a mile and a half to get there plus approximately 2/3s of the way around the lake I talked him into walking a a few blocks to Whole Foods and doing our grocery shopping, and then taking Lyft home. My logic? Beautiful walk AND we did not have to go grocery shopping when we got home!
Coco edp! Just one spritz bc the vintage stuff packs a punch! ????
You can spray more and come sit right next to me…
Enjoy!
Where did you pick up your vintage coco?
This is from a bottle I bought on the bay of evil. But I do have a little left in my original bottle from way back in the day. I loved it so much that I’ve saved the last bit and wear on very special occasions. I’m ridiculous, I know. ????
Not ridiculous at all. Vintage Coco is close to my heart, too. You smell wonderful!
Thank you Nancy! It is wonderful stuff. ????
Gosh, once we start getting really cold days (really cold is relative, I know… under 58 degrees) I plan to bathe in Coco. Love that one, even though my edp is so obviously a shadow of the original.
I did some Chanel bottle research then took a chance on the bay of evil for a “vintage” bottle. It smells almost exactly like the stuff in my original bottle. It was in one of the black plastic Chanel atomizers which I think helped preserve it.
Because today is Coffee day, I am wearing Iris Macchiato bun auphorie. Their description of ‘Iris touched by coffee’ is write on point.
Right right on point
Wow!
Sounds so unique. The few Auphorie’s I’ve tried have been so interesting.
SOTD is LL Cuir 28, Ok but not rocking my world. I’m not a leather girl really.
Question: I’ll be going to Toronto in about a week, and would love any tips people might have on interesting sights, perfume shopping, and/or other things like art galleries or nice restaurants. I’ve got some ideas already, but wonder if any natives or other travellers have suggestions for me. Thank you!
I haven’t been there, but there is a Guerlain store.
Oh boy!
The Art Gallery of Toronto and Royal Ontario Museum are definitely worthwhile, and the Bata Shoe Museum is fun (Manolo Blahnik exhibition!).
The folks at the Guerlain shop were super-nice when I visited and I have done phone orders with them since then. Holt Renfrew has a good selection of fancy perfume. Maybe a Torontonian can chime in about whether there is a successor to Noor boutique…?
Finally, a trip out to Toronto Islands is nice too, if quieter off-season.
Thank you!
Hi there, I am not a torontonian but not far and go there quite often. We have excellent if not the best Chinese food in NA????. I would suggest visiting Chinatown and nearby Kingsington market if you are a foodie. Distillery is fun place to visit and great place for photos if you are a photographer. There are outdoor art shows and cool sculptures, most of the shops are unique. Don’t forget to visit the John Fluevog shoe stores! I can’t remember if there are perfume shops – I don’t normally go there for perfumes. It’s quite close to the st Laurence market and it’s a must visit! Distillery has a number of cool restaurants and art shops as well.
I highly recommend Canoe, please call ahead and reserve a window seat. The view at night – overlooking the city and facing CN tower is magnificent. They have a seasonal tasting menu, using ingredients from one province.
Guerlain, Holt refrew and Hermès is within walking distance from ROM. Very pricey as we have 13% HST. Having recently been to Spain, I find deals are much better in EU.
BTW – TO is only 1.5 hr drive from Niagara Falls. The view is much better than US side. Not to mention the millions of wineries ????????????????????along niagara peninsula, and Niagara-on-the-lake, the most charming town in ON!
Message if you have any questions! And have fun!
Thank you for all of these wonderful suggestions! My friend I’m sharing a room with already booked us at Canoe, and so I’m glad to see that on your list. I do like to do photography and am interested in small art shops and markets, so many of these sound great. No time on this visit for the trip but I have been to the Canadian side of the Falls in the past and you’re quite right about the views there.
Hi Calypso! I live in Toronto and would add the following to what’s already been mentioned… If you’re a fan of Gaudi check out the gorgeous Bar Raval on College St. which is about a ten minute walk northwest of Kensington Market. Downtown there is a very large department store, Hudson’s Bay at Queen St. and Yonge St. with a very large fragrance and cosmetics department on the ground floor. Adjoining it is a Saks and across the street is the Eaton’s Centre where there’s now a Nordstrom. Heading east of Broadview Avenue on Queen Street, is a cool neighbourhood called Riverdale. Interesting buildings, cafes, stores, restaurants on this stretch – the Broadview Hotel has recently been restored. On the west side of Queen Street there are also some great neighbourhoods… I’d recommend west of Bathurst Street and the area around Ossington Avenue. If you can, go to the Evergreen Brickworks on Bayview Ave – it’s another cool place, restored heritage buildings where there’s a farmers market and other events and you’re coming at a time when the fall colours are just starting. North of Bloor Street where you’ll find Holt Renfrew, Hermes, Guerlain and many other designer shops is an area called Yorkville. In addition to boutiques, bars, cafes and restaurants there are some lovely old buildings and houses there. Finally, if you like old architecture head to a neighbourhood called Cabbagetown which is in the downtown east part of the city. It’s the largest continuation of preserved Victorian houses in North America. I lived there until recently – lots of cafes, pubs and restaurants… a very friendly part of town! There’s certainly lots to see here – hope you have fun!
Gosh, thank you, there really IS a lot to do there! I’m staying one extra day (Sunday the 14th) and hope to squeeze as much in as I can. I’m making a reservation for that night with friends at someplace in Yorkville, so we’ll see that area. Might have to play hooky from some conference sessions in order to see more and get some shopping in (all-important)! I also collect Inuit art and want to see some galleries for that too.
You’re welcome! I hope you have a great visit and some nice fall weather!
SOTD is the new Diptyque Eau de Parfum 34, boulevard Saint Germain. On Day 5 with the 10 ml sample they included with a candle order. I wouldn’t have bothered with this perfume version, as I was not a fan of the original scent at all, but I’m really enjoying it. Kind of perfect for the our current hot days/cool nights.
While its notes of sandalwood, vanilla and pink berries do not seem exactly unique, it’s well balanced and luxe while still feeling casual and I’m truly enjoying it. Sniffing it in the crook of my elbow will get me through a Saturday Ikea run (don’t ask).
I’m ordering a Tokyo candle this weekend (all the Diptyque City candles are available on-line today and tomorrow only) and excited to receive another 10 ml sample of Eau de Parfum 34, boulevard Saint Germain.
I have been wondering if this is different than the original. I was somewhat lukewarm on the original but looks like would need to take this one for a test drive
I compared the EDT and EDP and found them quite similar…and actually liked the EDT a bit more.
This is what makes fragrance so alive and fascinating to me, how different it is for each of us. The EDT was flat and muddy on me, while the EDP is round and enveloping but not dull.
Re-reading this after I posted, I sound like a shill for Diptyque! I’m not, I swear, but I do love their candles. And their exceptionally generous gifts with purchase have worked on me more than once. Okay, I still sound like a shill.
It is ok to love Diptyque!
Oh good, because I do! And shopping their boutiques is one of the better retail experiences to be had in these waning days of brick-and-mortar.
Have you watched David Sidaris’ commencement speech (available on Vimeo) at Oberlin? He’s hat tipping your Diptyque candles.
I saw that, very funny!
I haven’t watched that but I need to! I just finished Sedaris’s latest book “Calypso” and I can always hear his voice in my head when I read him.
These city candles sound lovely. Wouldn’t mind it I got one
I couldn’t get the EDT out of my head/nose so I have a FB. I know I got a sample of the EDP but have not worn it although I could be wrong.
I called the Madison Ave. store but the Tokyo candle is only available in a set of 6! Thanks, but no thanks. I think I will order online as well. One or two of the other perfumes contain freesia — I will stay FAR AWAY from them (Beverly Hills and one other).
Yes, I chose Tokyo unsmelled because I love the woody notes in Diptyque candles. I tend to stay away from the florals, although the Paris candle was tempting.
yes to 34, boulevard Saint Germain! I’m happy to hear there’s an edp.
Coffee..coffee day..yes please!
Gipsy Kings were amazing last night….lots of young people on stage keeping the band alive and kicking..during one song they invited some people on stage to dance..it was a riot! The Beacon theater is a magical place and very New York.
My apartment smells yummy..I am making the curry coconut soup, someone on here recommended
OH forgot..SOTD Infusion d’iris by Prada
What a fun night!
At first I read “curry and coconut soap“, and I was intrigued ????
If you are still intrigued…
https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/curried-lentil-tomato-and-coconut-soup
I will make it… I actually saw this post previously and screenshot the ingredients – and yet, I still read “soap”” ????
I may make this today too! I have all the ingredients
Oh yay! So glad it was fun.
SOTD = Gallivant Tokyo
Heh, spellcheck immediately changed the brand to Gallivanting! I was inspired by Jessica’s review yesterday. I got a surprise manufacturer’s sample of this from LuckyScent (I usually request specific samples). I really like it and it reminds me of another perfume I couldn’t quite place my finger on. Very nice. This line is actually not as inexpensive as one may think but getting a full bottle (30 mL) at under $100 feels good.
A friend shared this video of Andrea and Matteo Bocelli. Get your tissue out —

Since we’re on a feel good kick, I want to share 3 words that make my mom very happy when I say it on a Saturday morning. No, not “I love you” but rather “What’s our agenda?” which is my way of asking her if she feels up to it, which grocery store does she want to go to. We usually limit ourselves to one because she tends to take her time picking stuff. We’ve gone to more places today but I’ve timed it so that I was able to run errands while she stayed in the car or just outside so she got some Vitamin D. We have one more place to go.
Re: coffee (and I’ve had my 14 oz. half-decaf this morning). Last Thursday, the Aramark-run Starbucks at work gave away reusable hot coffee tumblers but the problem was the barista used regular tops. Thank God I noticed or I could have spilled coffee all over me…or, even worse, scalded myself. I spoke to the manager right away and they stopped giving away the cups because the proper lids were nowhere to be found. Yesterday, I went to a Starbucks near home. Even though I don’t go there often, the baristas know what I like. I decided to ask if they could spare a proper top and sure enough, I got one. It’s a small thing (I could have shelled out $2 to get the cup) but the great attitude made a difference.
If you think of the fragrance it reminds you of later, do report back! I was just trying to decide if I should seek out a sample or if it would be the same as something I already have.
Will do…it’s bugging me that I couldn’t quite place it!
I wore Gallivant Tokyo yesterday and really liked it
I am not surprised as we’re scent twins! Now we have to wait and see if Undina likes it too for triplet power!
That’s very nice that you do that for your mom! Thanks for sharing your impressions of Tokyo. I agree that per ml the brand is actually not cheap but I appreciate the 30 ml size
Thanks. I ask most weekends and I like it when she agrees to go out. She stays home except for doctor appointments, PT and haircut.
I haven’t tried Tokyo yet, but I love Amsterdam and Berlin. I will seek out a Tokyo sample!
I would be curious as to whether or not it reminds you of another perfume! I’m still thinking which one!
glad Tokyo gets a thumbs up, it’s on my sampling to do list.
Mom and I did Costco this afternoon. Takes forever but I’m glad we have the time together. 😉
SOTD is Natori–the plumminess goes well with autumn.
Halloween week I’ll be going to Texas while my workplace closes for renovations. My husband and I will spend a couple of days in Austin, so I’d love perfume shopping suggestions but would also be happy to meet up with folk if it fits our schedule. We’ll also spend a couple of days visiting my in-laws who are outside the Dallas/Fort Worth area but I suspect I’ll have less free time on those days but I’d still be happy for suggestions.
Hey hey, I will see you before you go to Austin and Dallas/Ft. Worth. I’ve been to both places on vacation (and actually work 2x) but did not research where to go sniffing as I knew I did not have enough down time to do it.
SOTD Samsara
I am the mother of a teenager today! I bought my son Declaration L’eau, i’ll give it to him later – I hope he likes it – my fear is that he will actually overuse it – thus my purchase of the L’eau version 🙂
Gorgeous day today – we might go apple picking.
Happy Birthday to your son! Have a great day ????????
Happy Birthday to your son! Nice gift too.
Happy birthday to your son! Enjoy the day.
Happy Birthday to your teenager 😉 Let the fun begin!!!
Happy birthday to your son! Enjoy the day! ????
Happy birthday to Coin-opteen! Have fun today!
Ha! I jus realized we used the same term!
????????great minds????????
Happy birthday, Coin-op-teen!
I hope your son has a wonderful birthday, and that you share a fabulous year with him.
Hi all, SOTD is a mixture of Le Labo Bergamotte 22, LL Iris 39, Kate Walsh’s Boyfriend, vintage Hermes Amazone EdP, Antonia’s Flowers Tiempe Passate and Fendi’s Asja for a few perfumistas I’m meeting up with tomorrow in downtown SF. I reek! (but SmokeyToes smells nice).
Happy National Coffee day! I had a great workout (glutes/legs), fueled by my favorite home made coffee smoothie, it’s a close dupe of Starbucks low calorie Moka Frappuccino. Recipe is:
1 cup of coffee
4 tablespoons of vanilla hemp powder (I like Trader Joe’s)
1 cup of spinach
1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1 tablespoon of PB
We are having Pacifica Fog Fest today, I live off the main drag so I’m headed out to check on the festivities, live bands and belly dancers!
1/2 banana A handful of ice BLEND AWAY
Oops, I didn’t realize how my comment didn’t load properly. Don’t forget to add the banana! :grins:
smelling good in your reeking havoc 😉
Spinach? Cooked? Raw? Spinach?
I was thinking maybe just replace that with chocolate ice cream?
Genius. And right off the top of my head I can think of half a dozen other instances where swapping out spinach for ice cream would be good. . . a burger and ice cream for instance, or ice cream salad topped with dried cranberries and pecans . . .
Exactly!!
Basking in PPC Lemon Liada, which the postal carrier just delivered to my house today. I am liking this quite well, which is good since I blind bought the 50 mL bottle. I am going to have something to confess in the damage poll this quarter.
It’s so nice when blind buys work out
It certainly is! I generally avoid blind buys, or at least limit myself to a very small bottle (~5 ml) because they so often don’t turn out well.
I much prefer tea over coffee 😉
Together with my parents we went to see new Polish movie called “Kler” (Clergy) – it was quite a controversial movie.
On the perfume side I’m enjoying NVC Ashoka. Great choice for autumn weekend.
Perhaps I should re-try Ashoka. If I recall, it’s milky fig which is not a favorite note.
I feel about fig perfume the way I feel about improv jazz. I know I should love it, but I really don’t.
Me too. Well said. I am so annoyed that I really do not like improv jazz… never been able to will myself into said space of coolness ????????????
I’m Team Tea too! 😉
I heard about Clergy – it looks extremely interesting especially considering how strong the Catholic church is in Polish culture and politics – I do wonder what the fallout is going to be like.
Also tea a hundred times over coffee!
I’m in Allure Sensuelle on this (finally!!) cooler day. Fall is my favorite season and I’m happy to see signs of it at last. Despite not setting my alarm I was still up at 4am. I hope that means I’ll get to sleep quickly/easily tonight. Have a great weekend everyone!
Twins in Fall being my favorite season!
Our weather has turned ever so slightly toward fall, and I have leapt in with both feet and am wearing Cuir d’Iris for a hair appointment this afternoon.
Yay! Another fan of fall! Enjoy the weather 🙂
Absolutely! I love those first days when cozy sweaters and fluffy socks are not only bearable but positively called-for. ????
I’m in 4160 Tuesdays Time to Draw the Raffle Numbers, from the swapmeet. It’s a smoky incense, but the smoke only lasts a few minutes. Other than Tokyo Cafe, nothing from this house has really wowed me.
Ugh, yesterday I had a scrubber on in the afternoon: Phlur Sandara, from a Sephora sample. It was all dill pickles on me. For five hours. I kept waiting, thinking that surely it would morph into something really special.
I was craving a burger so badly. Still am, actually. ????
What was the last really heinous scrubber you can remember?
The last tenacious scrubber I had was Kate Walsh Boyfriend. It smelled so nice on paper but on my skin it was awful. My trick is to first try oil based makeup remover, followed by dish soap and then unscented lotion. If that doesn’t do it, I break out the Bath and Body Works hand sanitizers. Of course, then you are stuck smelling like that…
To scrub, I use Tecnu which is what is used to remove poison ivy (oil). Same with make up remover, I don”t wet the area first.
A poison ivy remover….I’ll bet that works like a charm! Thanks for the tip!
It usually works but if there are still traces, I usually double-down and wipe with a make-up remover wipe.
I remember trying Boyfriend when it first came out, and to my nose, it was just…..different. My nose was totally unschooled then.
Try charcoal based cleanser. I have a mask / cleanser. Ginger is my sworn enemy – not surprisingly Hermès Twilly didn’t go well on my skin, tried everything, didn’t work, ????????????until the charcoal mask.
I think the last scent I literally scrubbed was something Diamonds from Viktor and Rolf. It was so barnyard on me. And I tried it twice! Just to be sure.
I don’t think I can bear to try the Phlur again. Checked the reviews on Sephora site, and I’m not the only one who got pickled.
Thank you so much for that! I was wondering about the new Phlur as that is the only one I have not tried and now my lemming is squashed. Speaking of pickles, that is exactly what I got with Stash but I kept on wearing it and it really grew into a huge like so much so that I thunked my one ounce bottle in three weeks because I literally wore it every day!
I don’t get pickles from Sandara, but I did from Santal 33. Like I’d dipped my wrist in a jar of Kosher Dills.
Interesting…I guess we all read pickles in different fragrances.
I think it’s usually from sandalwood? I can’t remember if I read that they’re olfactorily related, or if a previous convo here led to that conclusion.
Of course, I could be 100% off on all fronts.
That’s even more interesting! I could definitely see that!
Serge Lutens Sa Majesty Rose (or whatever the name is). It was a couple of years ago and I was in he car with kids and it was somewhat warm. Kids could not stop complaining something was smelling really really bad. That bottle went for swap as fast as possible
My latest scrubber was YSL Mon Paris EdP. It was tooth-achingly sweet on me! I felt like I needed to brush my teeth after trying it.
Wearing Amouage Memoir body butter today. Bidding on a partial bottle of vintage L’Heure Bleue. The strange thing in the description is that the seller said that they will empty the bottle unless requested. That offends my perfume sensibilities. I am not paying for just the bottle, yes, I want the perfume.
Is it a stoppered bottle? The seller might not want to risk leakage. But I understand your feelings; I don’t collect empty bottle, either, no matter how pretty.
Yes, it’s a stopper. I have ordered used stopper bottles before with no ill effects. If I win the auction, I will let the seller know that I want the perfume as well. The price right now is too good to pass up.
Good luck! I hope you win the auction.
In Istanbul Gallivant for second day of conference- I’m happy to report that power perfume Chance did it’s good work yesterday. Thanks for all the good wishes.
A fellow conference goer was wearing a perfume by Italian house Orto something that smelled very nice.
I enjoyed the new review of Tokyo Gallivant – definitely want to sample eventually. I burn Japanese incense all the time
I’m glad your talk went well! You smell lovely.
Merci!
Orto Parisi?
I’m wearing the original People of the Labyrinths today. My husband walked in, said “What is that gorgeous pipe tobacco smell?” and then encouraged me to buy a bottle. He’s been trying to discourage perfume purchases over the past few months, so I guess he must really like it.
Nice! Does that mean you also don’t have to confess to Donatella?
Ha! I love that…and no reports to Donatella necessary in my opinion.
Guys, Donatella knows when you are cheating! Now, if he gifts the bottle, you don’t have to report.
Hi everyone! Super busy day at work today. I wore 3 different perfumes throughout the day because I just couldn’t get it right. The first was Alien Liquor, then I spritzed some Coach, then finally dug in my purse and found Ambre Narguile. Here comes an AWFUL customer story: we are currently collecting donations to help fight Cancer. I ask every customer if they want to donate, this only requires a yes or no answer. I asked a girl, probably in her late teens, and she says yes. Suddenly she says ” wait, no I don’t, I forgot I don’t like that one girl from school with cancer” then turns to her mom, and says ” remember her?, yeah, I didn’t like her” I didn’t say anything, but I gave her as much change in dimes as I could.
How is the Alien Liquor? I have both Alien and the Cuir version. Just wondering the differences.
And what an awful position to be in regarding your customer’s response. I’m so sorry!
I find the liqour closer to the Cuir, but it’s sharper to me. Cuir, seems much better blended, and richer smelling. If I’m honest, it’s my least favorite of the series, the Taste of Fragrance and Cuir being standouts, imo.
Thanks lillyjo!
peepl r dummm thyn they hev dummmerer kidz ????
Ain’t it the truth, Bear. Damn shame.
YUP! I see this all the time.
Sadly, so do I…. another woman told me she didn’t want to donate because she was cured, then explained that she gives to charity all the time. I really just wish these people would just shut up and nod their head.
Ha! Wouldn’t that just make your life so much easier 😉 ??
Good lord! To be that young and that hateful- amazing!
I know, right?!
I think people can grow out of their hatefulness! Thankfully I was never as imbecilic as this girl, but lord knows I’m more empathetic now than I was as a teen.
“I don’t like that one girl from school with cancer.” Seriously!?!?
What an appalling thing to say.
Agreed. Also appalling is the fact that she said this right in front of her mother, so it’s clear who trained her to be this sort of human.
exactly
Wait guys…you don’t know what the mother said to her later! So easy to fall into the “blame the mother” thing.
Truly a horrible comment from that teenager. I was hoping you would say her mother shamed her but I assume she didn’t. Ugh.
Hi everyone!
Oh goodness, it’s been ages since I’ve been here. Over time, I’ve received a bunch of emails from some of the perfumista/blogger gang I stay in touch with that some of y’all were wondering where I’ve been, and that has been so heartwarming to hear. I too think of people that I miss hearing from here, and wonder how they are and where their journey has taken them.
It’s a little odd, but there ya go – I have been commando for almost a year. I haven’t posted about that aspect of my journey as I imagine it sorta doesn’t fit with where others are at here. Part of me misses the excitement of exploring new discoveries, keeping up, the desire and promise. I miss that to a certain extent – it’s really fun!
To those who have felt moved to reach out, I truly appreciate it. Sending everyone here love, hugs, hope and best wishes…
Perfume or not, what’s important is to be happy and enjoy your life. I hope you are well and happy!
Thank you! It’s so lovely to hear from you. I hope you are well and happy too.
Nice to see you back!!! Hope you stop in from time to time, commando or not. We always love hearing from you 🙂
Thank you! I’m sure I’ll be around again once I have something relatable to share.
Hi Holly! ????????♀️????????
Hi and thank you for chiming in! I hope all is well with you and yours.
Hey Holly, Welcome Back. I was close to your neck of the woods last week although I did not make it to Arielle Shoshana. I will need to plan a trip exclusively to make it there!
Hey girl! I know that some day we’ll meet up. ????
Hello Holly! It was great to see a post from you… you have been missed in these here parts of the Internet.
Aw, thank you Jalapeno! I have missed being here.
Hi Holly! So happy to hear from you!
Hi Kelly! Thank you – I’m so happy to hear from you too!
Glad you are well, and I for one would love to know what made you stop wearing perfume!
Epic today, as I was going through decants trying to figure out what to give away 🙂 I don’t think I want to give this one away! It smells fabulous. It appears to have evaporated down to an oil, and that oil is rich and spicy and forest-y.
I started my day, as I start all days, with coffee! My favorite coffee perfume is probably LUSH Cardamom and Coffee.
Oh, I liked Cardamom and Coffee when I tried it. I got the LuckyScent sample pack that had five fragrances that got five stars in the 2018 Perfume Guide. I’ve been trying Le Cri de la Lumiere, Mem, and Nuit Magnetique, in particular, these last few days.
Have a good day! 🙂
SotD = Tam Dao from a sample
Beautiful sandalwood, it makes me relax and breathe deep.
This morning I did something fun! I walked 5k at Angel Stadium to raise funds for NAMI!! Woo-hoo, it was great to mingle with other people who care about mental health, and our team raised over $800. It feels good. 😀
Good for you tiffanie! ????❤
thanks, lillyjo! a teacher colleague and friend who used to work as a mental health care case manager invited me to walk with her team. It was a lot of fun, I learned new things and met some great people!
#stopthestigma
that’s awesome, tiffanie!!!
aw, thanks, cm8! it was an awesome experience.
Tam Dao is beautiful- house twin!
Glad your fundraiser was a success all the way around!????????
woot woot! 😀
That’s fantastic! Smelling great and doing good things.
thanks, sistine, it feels good too. 😉
I love tea more than coffee. My favourite coffee perfume is AC Cafe Tuberosa.
Today I.m wearing a sample of TDC Majaina Sin. Terrible name, but it smells good. Downstairs neighbour’s cat liked it so much she licked my arm. 🙂
Dining woes: sitting in a pizza restaurant and having the two women at the tables next to us trading gory labour/birth stories. Gack. Not at the table please!
We were once at a Mexican restaurant where a couple was discussing how they realized there was no Santa Claus. They didn’t notice the family sitting right behind them, with several young children. Two of the kids were crying by the time the family left the restaurant.
🙁
Awwww that’s sad
Yikes on the inappropriate dinner talk!
I love Cafe Tuberosa also. It’s on my FB list, although my list is so long who knows when I will actually get it haha.

I had a Sam Adams Coffee Pale Ale yesterday (for coffee day, y’all!) after mowing half our lawn (both push mower and riding mower)….
I can still smell the remnants of myrrh essential oil on my bathrobe this morning..it’s gorgeous.
Right now I am drinking a cup of Pumpkin tea from Celestial…a cheapie but goodie!
Post shower I will do lashings of Reglisse Noire.
That beer sounds great!
It really was!! I am not much of a drinker at all but I really do enjoy those limited edition oddball flavored Sam Adams from time to time…one spring they had an orange blossom one and it was divine! But this coffee one had a very pronounced coffee flavor and smell….very good.
I second this! That sounds like a good beer.
It was 😉
Fall has definitely arrived and yesterday we caved and turned the furnace on.
I’m in Fleur de Peau for a work weekend. Looking forward to the end of the day today, getting home and changing into my jammies and settling into the couch for the season premiere of The Durrells!
Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone!
have a nice day, mtg!!!
Thanks cm8- you too!????
Turning on the furnace twins! But I think after today we will get a slight warm up. Hope your day goes fast.
Yesterday when I got up the house was 57 degrees, which is downright chilly! I was almost happy to come to work where it is warm, lol. Fortunately my husband knows me well and turned the heat on before I got home last night.
Fingers crossed for a warm up and some sun!
Have a good day lillyjo!
I’m excited for Durrells, too! And Poldark. I might have to watch the last few episodes of the latter, as it’s been so long I can’t really remember what went down.
I’m afeared by what our heating bills might look like this winter. We have forced air gas heat, but I’ve thought about getting a bunch of oil radiators and supplementing them with forced air. I’m not sure if that even makes sense, though, or if it would be ridiculously expensive. Both gas and power are astoundingly pricey here (unregulated markets, apparently.) I do really prefer radiant heat, though. Any advice, anyone?
Try and seal any drafts you get from doors and windows. Try and keep the heat at a constant temperature. I set mine at 68 degrees, unless it’s in the single didgets outside. But I think alot of people do 72 degrees, but that’s just to expensive for me.
Same here. We keep it at 66-68 and try to seal all drafts for the same reason…too expensive for us (if I win lotto though my house would be 80 degrees in the winter-LOL!)
I’m leaning toward radiators because they keep a constant temperature and heat surfaces, not just the air (I am not at all a fan of forced air because it functions in just the opposite way.)
Due to medical conditions, I get and stay cold (with numb extremities) at lower temps. But I can’t test which heating system would be less expensive without investing in the radiators first, which presents a conundrum. I’m also not sure if radiators are even feasible to heat 1200 sq ft?
As to blocking leaks, our windows are newer and fairly air tight. The doors (which can be fixed) are a mess, as is the floor. We’re on top of a basement with no subfloot between, which is not going to change. So I’m anticipating a major nightmare, resulting in a move next summer when our lease runs out.
Maybe keep a circulating fan on low when the heat is on.
We do have ceiling fans but I’d think one would only want to employ them if using radiant heat? One thing I hate about forced air is all that hot air blowing.
Purchasing a new furnace next month. Gah, with the installation and permits…. that’s out winter holiday!
Oh my gosh I forgot the Durrells we’re back tonight! I’ll have to watch it on demand. I love that show so much. Binged earlier seasons this past spring.
What I enjoy most about coffee is the aroma, more than the taste.
In the remnants of By Terry Rose Infernale layered with Molton Brown Rosa Absolute, still going strong.
Robin, many thanks for the freebiemeet.
I saw an exotic bird this morning, no doubt on its way down south. Not sure what species but it was black and white with blue accents and an orange beak. It made my day.
Love exotic bird sightings. Fantasy retirement plan? Big Year.
Wore Micallef Vanille Orient yesterday for a quick visit to Cleveland Museum of Art, a bit of shopping, and dinner. I’ve tested the Micallef next to Guerlain SDV and there are differences when compared, but worn separately I’d not know which is which.
Today is our first regular-season outing to the symphony ( or Orchestra, I guess – I need to retrain myself with that one) — Bartok and Prokofiev. I’ll either wear Misia or Coromandel. Misia has been my symphony night perfume for a few years as it’s such a great compliment to the music. I’ve thought about switching it up, though, what with now going to hear the Orchestra rather than the Symphony. 😉
Geisha Noire might be a good candidate. Hmmm…
Do tell, what did you decide on?
Oh, also meant to add that we’ll be eating at a Taiwanese noodle house we spied last weekend *jumps up and down with excitement* ????
Sounds like my perfect weekend, fragrances included! LA Phil celebrates 100 years this season, and Coromandel has been my Disney Hall must-wear too.
Today, we have CicLAvia, with parts of the city open only to bikes and pedestrians from Disney Hall downtown to the Hollywood Bowl, with food pop-ups and arts showcases along the way, culminating in Dudamel and the Phil playing a free concert at the Bowl.
It’s warm and sunny today and I’ll be riding the whole way, so I’m doused in Van Cleef & Arpels California Reverie. I love LA!
I love LA, too! I’ve been to Disney hall (back in the Esa Pekka days) but never saw a performance there. I have been to the Hollywood Bowl many times and that experience can’t be beat.
The Cleveland Orchestra actually has its own summer outdoor amphitheater, which is beautiful and serene, but a very different experience from the Hollywood Bowl, as it’s out in the country near (or in?) a national park.
Enjoy the ride and the show! That sounds amazing. And I highly recommend Misia for an evening with Russian Romantics. They have similar emotional intensity for me, making them a perfect pairing.
One little spray, spread onto both arms and applied 90 min before work of Slinky Carnation so that I can wear my glorious custom scent in perfect fall weather. I’ll be in NY on Wed 10/10 if anyone wants to sniff it and hang out with me and Hajusuuri. I could also hang out and go sniffing during the day on Th 11/11. My screen name is my Yahoo address
I’m wearing Hanami by Phlur today. It’s a great match for errands/ cleaning/ grading/ cooking/ yoga which is good because that’s what my day has in store. Have a nice Sunday everyone!
That’s a beautiful versatile fragrance that definitely matches your busy day. Hope you enjoyed your yoga!!!
Hope your Sunday was good, Sistine!
I’m trying my new sample of Sydney Rock Pool. It is kind of mineral/driftwood. Close to the skin.
Ooh. Looking forward to sniffing that one.
Interesting, makes me think of the original Andree Putman.
I’m in Incense Flash, thanks to a wonderful swap partner. Have I said lately that I dearly love the swapmeets? And this site? Well, I do.
Headed to the gym soon…it’s an arms/shoulders day, which is my most challenging workout.
I know I’m late to the party, but we just started watching The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel this week, and have burned through the first season save the last episode. Hilarious and touching. I love the rat-a-tat-tat dialogue.
I love incense flash on mr.yasmina – and we like ms. Maizal too. A nice light change from our usual dystopian dramas
Ah, it’s nice to share an interest like fragrance with your husband. I’m often angling for mine to be my human test strip, but he hasn’t been too willing so far. ????
I love Maisel! Such a great show!
I am getting some Incense Flash from the swapmeet as well, and am impatiently waiting for it to arrive 🙂 🙂 what a great scent.
Also, I was going through my sample bag earlier today, and looking at all the wonderful scents that NSTers have sent me over the past few years just warmed my heart <3
Hello everyone!
Long time no comment.
This is because the main scent I’ve been enjoying this month is the unbeatable smell of newborn baby!
Our little cub is coming up for a month now.
We went for lunch with our cousins today and I kept it cheap, cheerful, and LT and TS approved in Lolita de Lempicka.
Was my birthday this month so hoping to buy some more perfume once the dust has settled. I am considering a buying a Guerlain oriental, does anyone have any suggestions which one has the best autumn/winter feel?
Congratuations on your new little one. Nothing like that baby smell!
Congrats on your new baby, Aspic!
Congrats! That new baby smell is so wonderful
Congratulations!!! Happy belated birthday!
My vote would be for Guerlain Encens Mythique d’Orient. And pst, if you DON’T buy Encens Mythique, I have it on good authority that one will be up for the upcoming splitmeet 🙂
Yay, best wishes to you both!
SOTD is Five o’clock au gingembre. It’s so perfect this tine of year during the warm days and cold nights.
You smell great!!!!!
Trying to dip into my old decants and forgotten swaps. Yesterday I wore Bruise Violet and today I am in the underrated and underappreciated Amarena (Bvlgaria). I am planning to post samples at the Freebie Meet, so keep visiting. Also, I have two decants I have ready to mail. Comme Des Garçons goes to kpaint, but who on earth was it that expressed an interest in Coqui Perfumes Rosas Frescas? I kept meaning to get back to you and then life got in the way. If you are the person who commented about wanting to try this frag on the day I talked about wearing it, please email me! You were on my mind!! ann dotty eisenberg attagirl Comcast dotty net.
Ooo ooo ooo! Really really really? *passes out* You’ll need my new address. Shoot me a reminder if I forget. Thank you!!!
Just email me now, thanks!
Rochas Man has a coffee note and is well done. The bottle is futuristic and imaginative. Givenchy Very Irresistible Pour Homme and A-Men Pure Coffee are other examples of coffee fragrances amongst surprisingly many others.
Good evening, all! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. We’ve had a busy one filled with birthday party, yardwork, housework etc. Every day is coffee day to me haha. Coffee is life! I look forward to reading through everyone’s comments and seeing if anyone has any coffee scent recommendations.
Concentre d’Orange Verte for no reason this weekend other than it smells good and I love it!
