The daily lemming

Posted by Robin on 18 September 2018 11 Comments

While I was musing over yesterday's drawer liners, I also came across this adorable little number from Diptyque: the lavender wand, $48. "Produced in partnership with the Maison Franc, this scented curiosity, symbol of French tradition, is entirely handmade with lavender from Provence. The lavender heart slips into all the small spaces to diffuse its entirely natural perfume." Perhaps I was the only one who had never heard of a lavender wand? Turns out you can make one yourself (although I'm pretty sure mine would not look like the one shown above). Here are instructions from the English Lavender Farm.

Want! I love that lavender wand, very beautiful.

And yes, it is not hard to make one. My mother has enough lavender growing in her garden that I have made lavender wands several times over the years, though mine were more simply done. ;)

      Oh, good for you!!

If you paid me $5000 I still could not summon the patience to do one as neatly as the picture.

I made one of these once! Many years ago, I worked with a woman who had access to lots of lavender, and she showed me how to weave ribbon through stalks like this.

The English Lavender Farm link you’ve provided is so cool I want to make one now. Its interesting that dried lavender keeps for so long.

From other experience with dried lavender, I do think it will keep but I don’t think you can expect it to impart much of a smell after a year or so.

At $48 you’re paying for the ribbon on this one. A lavender wand in Aix costs about $10, sometimes less.

You can get pretty nice ones on Etsy too, in your choice of colors.

You have a great eye for lemmable things, Robin — I don’t even like lavender and I want this wand!

And the calfskin palmettes fan you posted three years ago… Of course, I would then need the lifestyle in which an elegant scented fan would be a useful accessory. I imagine Amal Clooney may have one tucked away. ;-)
