Burberry is to cease its controversial practice of incinerating unsold goods with immediate effect while also pledging to phase out the use of real fur.
The new ethical approach follows a backlash after the fashion giant was found to have destroyed £28.6m worth of unsold stock in 2017, including clothes accessories and perfume, in order to protect the image of its brand.

Wow. That’s an eye opener. ????
Yep.
Interesting. I’ve seen a bunch of their beauty products listed on Nordstrom Rack and TJX. I wonder if it is unsold at that point they used to incinerate. Anyway…good news. Burberry is evolving.
Possibly!
I wonder what Hermes does?
And every other high end designer brand. I think this is probably very common.
This is my experience from the stores I’ve worked at. Unsold merchandise gets marked down, or sent back to the company. Items that can’t be sent back, we have to destroy. I’ve crushed mattresses, cribs, and have shredded many clothes. I actually did that last night. It has been explained to me, that there is liability with some things being donated, for instance, cribs. The problem with the clothes is that people would bring them back to the store for returns.
