Happy Hump Day and happy National Relaxation Day! (I participated by sleeping through the alarm.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Summer Cologne.
Reminder: 8/17 will be Guessing Game Friday, edition 2. Describe your perfume to us, OR, give your perfume the name it ought to have had, and we'll see if we can guess what it is.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Thunk????????????????
Prada tendre
Yup ????
I thought you said one to two weeks!
Middle marzipan asked for a decant to take with her so I am tapped out LOL ???? ????
Thunkinator.
????????????
No way! ????
What’s next? ????
oh yes way!!! When she said, “can I take some of that with me?” I decanted and ‘poof’ it was gone! This is what happens when I wear things over and over again….eventually one of the marzipans likes it enough to “steal” it from me…I don’t mind though…I like spreading the love š
Wow! That was fast! What is next?!
yup! not sure what is next…I have two bottles that are itching to be finished…but I also have a boatload of essential oils that I enjoy wearing as “perfume” so I might start to tackle those..some of them might be slower on the THUNK but then again if I turn them into body oils they will be done sooner.
I did a double take when I saw your latest THUNK!
LOL! a bit unexpected but the girls are starting to pack up for college and they are working on their perfume stash at the moment! and of course this includes me having to make decants for them when they don’t want to shlep the full bottles.
Oh Robin, I slept through my alarm this morning too! It does make for a discombobulated morning. Luckily I had decided last night what perfume to wear today, saving at least several seconds of dithering.
My perfume anagrams to MINERALS.
Slime ran
Hahahaha no but I did consider using that as my anagram instead!
????
Welcome to the club! I am still too discombobulated to do an anagram — hats off to Bear.
Rain Smel
Niral Mes
Aremis Nil
Hee hee! It does have a little bit of a Rain Smel to it.
Sel Marin!
I even wrote out 6 other attempts before I got to it.
Well done!
This was hilarious!
Nice one! I adore anagrams. š

Am I participating in the challenge if I inadvertently haven’t consumed alcohol since July 4th ? ????

It couldn’t be right as Havanna Vanille can’t really be green on anyone’s skin.

Sorry, incorrect.

Is it Si? I want it to be Nagel and this sort of matches except I can’t think why the name would be controversial…
I can’t think why either, so was wondering about Thierry Wasser since I guess it was a bit controversial that he got the job at Guerlain? So then could be Dior Addict, although that’s unlikely in August maybe.
Not for Bear, necessarily! ????
????????????????????????
Nothing is likely with me.
DiorAddict is correct, Robin.
I like Ubar and Carnal Flower in the heat, so DiorAddict almost demure. Almost. ????????ā????

Saw the answer, you smell wonderful ????
????????????????
I’m wearing the last of a sample of L’Artisan’s The Pour Un Ete. Very decant worthy and great for a hot summer day.
Lovely scent – you smell beautiful.
SOTD is Chanel 19 EDT – have some territory to defend today and needed spine-stiffening. Hear me roar. Heh.
You go, girl! That’s a great scent for self defense ????
Thanks! It’s working great so far … hope I didn’t just jinx myself. š
Nah, you’ll be fine. No. 19 is just that good, IMO.
Great! Looks like it worked!
French Kiss for me today
I thought about French Kiss last Sunday while testing a fragrance!
I am ready to play! Guess what perfume. I come from the private line in this companyās stable of fragrances. I have been discontinued, mostly because my name was ridiculous and did not describe me well. I am a gorgeous Ylang Ylang fragrance with a small suggestion of lily. Two of my siblings are in the more modest, if this word can ever be used to describe anything about my company and founder. Sibling one is an excellent Frankincense and Myrrh and sibling 2 is so loud and so distinctive that my owner feels like a Valkyrie when she wears it. Who am I?
The house must be Tom Ford, but I’ve only ever tried a very limited number of his fragrances, so I don’t know which particular Ford you are wearing.
Correct.
Bonus points if you can guess all three!
Fleur de Chine
Sahara Noir
Black Orchid
Number 2 and 3 are correct but it is not Fleur de Chine.
Voile de Fleurs?
.667 batting average puts me in the baseball hall of fame! ????
Haha! I think you are beating me!
Shanghai Lily?
Retracting. Lys Fume?
It is Elisa P for the win! Why did they just not call this Golden Ylang Ylang? It is a really beautiful Ylang solifore.
Totally slept through my alarm today.. now waiting while my son gets a back to school haircut. The poor kid inherited my poofy hair. Sotd is a flanker that has little to do with the iconic original, except for the lemony opening.
Is it a Shalimar Flanker?
Yes
Souffle?
Yes!
Yay!

Oh Bear….thank you for all the chuckles during my coffee….

I wish. Missed out on that one. Petunia got it with Souffle
I’m wearing a perfume from one of the first niche brands. It’s a masculine, featuring a fragrance note that is very distinctive and very long lasting. The name translates to sand in English.
Love Sables Annick Goutal
If that’s correct, now we have the answer to Coin-ops question about Sand and Sables yesterday.
This blog is edu-ma-cation-al ! ????ā
It is Sables, glad you enjoy it too. Immortelle seems to be a love it or hate it note.
Have you ever tried the original Eau de Monsieur?
I haven’t. Wish I had sampled Eau de Fier when it was readily available. ????
I got myself a bottle when the shop on Rue de Castiglione was still selling them, back in 2009. It’s a stunning fragrance.
Sorry to butt in. Bear, if you can get your hands on a sample of Eau de Fier, do it!!
Relaxion day? I guess I will celebrate it next year. ????
Wearing Assam of India. Today, it smells better than ever, probably because I hadn’t worn it in a long time. I am on my third row of elephants. Still a way to go…
I think all bottles should have rows of elephants, for easy marking ????
It would be very convenient! I just wonder how many mls there are per row…
You have the bottle? why did I not know this? Even though I decanted for the middle one to take with her I STILL have one or two rows left…this is one of the ones I am thinking about THUNKING….
pl67, you smell amazing!!! and please DO try it in the winter when the weather and shorter days damper my spirits ASSAM lifts me up…for me it could be a year round fragrance..
and I am hoping that you get some rest and relaxation very soon!!!
Well… after all your praises, love and commitment to it and a decant from a generous NSTer, I had ” absolutely” no choice, but getting that beautiful bottle with such an uplifting and refreshing juice! š Today, like never before, I am getting wafts of incense that is not listed as a note. I just wonder if the combination of tea and sandalwood is the reason for it. Any idea?
I would not be surprised if there is incense in there. The Berdoues Grand Cru always only list three notes but there is definitely more in them. Have you ever tried Arz El Rab? Ginger Iris and Cedar ( and I know you like Iris ????)
I just tried Arz El Rab for the first time yesterday! Just did a quick sample spritz, but for the first several minutes it was the most beautiful, true Virginia cedar scent. After that, the cedar went to the background and it became a woody iris. Still great though.
Yes it is heavy on the cedar for me as well. It’s beautiful though and definitely unisex. I think for the price the Berdoues are pretty darn good. Plus I am addicted to those bottles š I would not mind having all the bottles, even if they were empty!!!
No, I have not tried it yet. Is the iris noticeable?
I get more cedar but holyneroli says it dries down to a woody iris.
Arz El Rab was all cedar all the time on me. No iris. YMMV.
Assam of India is the best “iced tea with lemon” scent I have smelled. Very refreshing.
I agree! I haven not found another refreshing tea scent yet that comes close to Assam of India. I really love it!
You smell wonderful!
Thank you!????
Canāt play the game – Baby Jack turns four today! Iām in Jo Malone Orange Blossom, as thatās what I was wearing when we were in the hospital. I donāt love or hate the scent, but the memories make it one of my favs. And it should be good for a whole day of bouncy houses and train rides. š Happy Wednesday everyone.
Happy Birthday to Baby Jack!
Thank you!
Happy Birthday Baby Jack!
Thanks! We appreciate the well wishes!
Aww, sweet scent memory. Happiest of birthdays to your boy!????
I love when I can hold onto the past with scent, especially when itās such a lovely memory.
Happy Birthday fellow Leo! ????
Thank you! He is exactly what you would imagine a four year old Leo boy to be. Never listening, always performing, and stubborn as eff. And I can say that, Iām a Leo too. š
Happy Birthday Baby Jack! ????????????????
Thank you!
Awww, happy birthday and have fun!
Thank you. It was fun…and I am exhausted! š
Happy bday to your Leo! (I have two of my own).
Jo Malone Orange Blossom was my first full bottle purchase from Jo Malone…I bought it because I loved the sample and also because I knew it was a scent that Barbara Herman wore before she became “famous” (that and Gucci Rush which I also bought). It is such a beautiful orange blossom….
Enjoy your day with Jack!
Gucci Rush may be my all time favorite scent. I bought it upon first sniff and weāve had a love affair for almost 20 years. The Orange Blossom is lovely, but Gucci Rush is captivating.
Thank you for the birthday wishes, we had a very fun day.
Happy Birthday to Baby Jack!
Thank you!
Happy Birthday to Baby Jack! Wow, he’s 4 already?
Can you believe it? Someone once told me, āThe days are long, but the years are short.ā Might be the best quote ever.
Thank you!
Awww, my Baby Jack turns 19 in a few weeks….I remember when he was 4 (insert crying face)….happy birthday to yours!!!
My Jack isnāt allowed to grow up – Iām having more fun than I ever thought possible!
…and happy early birthday to your baby. š
Happy Birthday to baby Jack. I remember when you were preggers with him!
Isnāt it amazing how fast time goes by? I remember every moment of my pregnancy and his birth like they were yesterday…between bringing him home from the hospital and now, not so much. My brain has turned into mush.
Thank you for the birthday wishes.
This perfumer formerly worked for Guerlain and now has her own line of muscs and vanillas. This particular scent got a one-star rating in the new Guide and LT described it as āa cloying, misbegotten mishmash of mimosa and almond notes, and whoever did this must be glad to remain anonymous.ā Lol.????
I like it, but Iām a sucker when it comes to perfumes with a note of almond.
Sylvaine Delacourte don’t know which.
Florentina!
Yes! I knew you would get it- you are so good at this!
Awww, thanks, but I have some tough competition. I’ll put it on my resume, though, lol! ????
That was my favorite of the lot, but a little over my line for sweetness.
Yes for the perfumer! ElisaP got the scent.ā¬ļø
Whoops. Arrow went the wrong way.????āāļø
Oh darn, you reminded me of my idea I totally forgot, which was to do all my clues this week in the form of quotes from negative reviews from Basenotes! Well, there’s still 3 days left.
Ha! Thatās a good idea. I bet there are some good ones!
You’d be out of luck for today, because Florentina only has one review and it’s positive. I’d be in luck though, because Sel Marin “doesn’t smell like the ocean at all. Neither does it smell very good. More like a cucumber/bergamot/seaweed smoothie bought in a Los Angeles rawfood yoga cafĆ©.”
Please do this for the rest of the week!!
psa: it looks like Sylvaine Delacourte recently launched a line of vanillas. Sampler set of all 5 available on her website for $4. Perfumemath free.????
A friend of mine just recieved that coffret.
Ordered, thanks! I like vanilla even more than white musk and still fell for one in the musk collection (Lilylang). The descriptions for the vanilla collection are sure enticing, so I hope I’ll find something to love.
Please report back when you receive it. I like vanilla too
I’m waiting for She-ra to pop up like a gopher although I think she is on vacay…
LOL! You have a talent for the turn of phrase…
Ordered. Thanks!
Easy-peasy – my SOTD is from a relatively new Canadian house, is named after an animal, and smells of bananas, vegetation and soil.
Zoologist Bat!
Bat. Ahh… you beat me. I have never tried but ringthing left enough clues!
This is fun!
Winner winner, Chicken Dinner!
great job celebrating Robin š How do you like Summer Cologne? It sounds great and very tempting. Love that picture too!
today I’m wearing Sand & Sable. I sprayed two baby sprays on a cotton ball and dabbed some skin, and put the cotton ball inside my shirt. Much better way to wear this scent than full on sprays.
yesterday’s SOTD: Elizabeth & James Nirvana Black (3 simple ingredients, bottle can be used to exfoliate feet)
I like it, but I do think it is almost certainly something that needs to be sprayed, and sprayed lavishly, and I have a tiny little rollerball sample. So it isn’t making as much as an impression as it should.
Brighter, rounder, less green & bitter than CB I Hate Perfume Memories of Kindness. I think I like her Kaleidoscope better for a summer green / citrus / eau fraiche kind of thing– and would say that one lasted longer, but I really don’t know because I have that one in a spray.
Thank you for your impressions Robin! CB MOK has been on my list, as well as the Burt’s Bees tomato toner. I really like tomato vine scent, good to hear the comparison with MOK.
I love tomato leaf as well. If you try the Burt’s bees let me know
How does it compare to Corsica Furiosa? That’s my main tomato reference scent . .
Oh, that one is drier, and more herbal, and less of an “eau fraiche” kind of thing in general. This is more of a light citrusy thing with some tomato leaf.
Ahh, I was thinking of those bottles when reading your description yesterday! But I didn’t realize that one had only three notes.
š well, on fragrantica anyway….sandalwood, violet & vanilla
hahahaha on the E&J bottle foot exfoliation. I love that bottle and really do want one but can’t decide which scent I like best. š
My SOTD is something many single people are looking for and is a celebuscent. Actually some married people might have one too. Lame description but I’m only just now having coffee.
Fantasy Britney Spears ????????????
Nope!
Whatshername Boyfriend?
Ha! āŗ
Correct! Lol it’s Kate Walsh and the only thing I know about her is that her name is on this perfume! I usually wear it in the winter but I grabbed it on a whim and it works in the heat too. Side note, can the heat go away now? Not ready for cold but some temps in the 70s would be a welcome relief!
Until just now, I didn’t realize Boyfriend was a celebuscent because I didn’t know Kate Walsh was a celebrity. Oops.
She’s an actress, although I forget what she was in, and whatever it was, I never saw it š
She was in Grey’s Anatomy for a while, and then got spun off to a TV flanker called Private Practice that lasted way longer than it should have. Not that I watched it much. š
Can you guess? I am an aptly named scent from a house known for it’s sophistication. I could use a little sun. My materials are excellent but my bottle is utilitarian. Please extend your pinkie while applying me.
Chanel Beige?
Good guess but no! The perfume name is on the right track.
I need to save this one for later. Yours really exercise my noodle! I’m sure you smell pale and lovely today????
I’d like to think so. I can’t make them too easy for you? Robin was on the right track with her guess.
Ah, Dior Gris Montaigne?
Sorry, no.
It is described as a happy scent.
I’m stumped ????????
Dior Cologne Blanche ?
Sorry, no. I made it too hard.
The house is based in the Netherlands and the nose was Antoine Lie.
Ok this is what I first thought Le Dandy D’Orsay.
And I think there is also a scent named Etiquette.
Sorry…
Is the house Hiram Green?
No…. Oh no…???? I like HG scents a lot but don’t think of it as a sophisticated house.
This house is not an old one but it is an incredibly expensive one. I can only afford their travel sizes. I would say that the house is probably better known to people who like classic perfume with a modern edge. Their bottles are opaque and very plain considering their prices. However, they package their scents beautifully.
Puredistance White!
Yay! Give that lady a prize!
Woo hoo!????
So glad that hajusuuri finally guessed it! It’s was hard to describe without referencing color.
Well-done!
Good morning, friends! I am wearing a rich, spiced, gourmand vanilla fragrance (I don’t know if this is what Robin means by wood pudding, but it smells like wood pudding to me!). The scent comes from an indie brand that is well loved here on NST, and with good reason, as the brand owner/perfumer is by all accounts a wonderfully sweet and generous man.
Day 3 of Project Don’t Dress Like a Grad Student is going well! I have a shocking amount of white clothing, and it all makes me soooo nervous that I’m going to spill something (usually coffee) on myself. I wonder how long this project is going to last. I have a feeling I’ll manage it one more week before falling back to my extremely casual ways.
Dame Black Flower Mexican Vanilla?
Oooo so close š It’s the other one!
Earth Mother?
I just cannot get behind Earth Mother. It suffocates me. Anyway, it’s Dark Horse–Elisa P got it below š
Dark Horse
That’s the one! It’s my favorite Dame š Though I’m pretty fond of his Orange Blossom, too.
I don’t have a guess for your perfume, but congrats on your wardrobe project, that sounds interesting! Don’t know how casual you usually dress, are you more jeans or stretch pants casual? I heard someone somewhere recently touting elastic waist band cotton or canvass pants as a more versatile way of dressing casual, i like the idea.
The big problem I have with clothes is I can’t put anything even remotely nice in the dryer, even casual clothes as it ruins them – so stuff piles up because I dread hanging up a load of wet clothes.
my MIL has a basic uniform, a concept I admire from afar – she always wears black flats, black pants, a black themed blouse, hair teased up in a bun with long bangs, she uses jewelry to add variety.
One of my best friends wears only black. Oh, on occasion sheāll throw on a white blouse or tank under something black. She does the same thing…the shoes, bags, jewelry are the variety and interest. And where the $$$ goes….
Thatās a great uniform!
I started doing the uniform thing as well. I have a very limited wardrobe but it makes getting dressed in the morning so much easier!
All my clothes are black or denim, with a few black and white stripes. I accessorize with perfume. Mainly because of work, but because my feet are so bad from working, I don’t have to worry about finding matching shoes that are comfortable.
Your MILās uniform sounds lovely! Iāve contemplated a uniform myself (they say itās the kind of thing successful people do!), but I think it would just make me unhappy. It would be like restricting myself to one perfume.
I typically wear jeans and a casual top. Iām having fun wearing nice pants/skirts/shorts right now (yes, shorts can be nicer than jeans! Pretty much all of mine are!). I understand your dryer problem š We have a drying rack thatās almost always in use, drying either gym clothes (heat hurts elastic) or nicer clothes. Itās in the office/music room, so itās out of our way for the most part.
I’ve often thought of a uniform of sorts. I like the idea. Can accessorize with jewelry, different makeup looks, and perfume of course.
Maybe you could fit a dressy week into your schedule every so often? That way, you spend part of the time not looking like a grad student, but also enjoy the benefits of a wash and wear wardrobe that students generally have.
I think that’s a really good idea š Also because if I were to dress nicely all the time, no one would say nice things to me about my outfits. On the other hand, I’ve gotten a pile of compliments over the past few days about my attire! I know that when they say “You look so nice today!” it’s not wholly dissimilar from them saying “You look like you made some kind of effort today!” but I still enjoy the compliments š
Wow, Koyel! We have different noses/different skin because Earth Mother is really soft and plush on me whereas Dark Horse is a powerhouse. I don’t get wood pudding but a strong sharp guaicwood. I don’t dislike it but I prefer Earth Mother. My eldest wore Dark Horse her entire freshman year and drained her bottle. She has a decant which she saves for reference. I will have to find it and sniff it again.
Oh how funny š I am not sure I know what guaiac wood smells like, but there is nothing at all sharp about Dark Horse to me!
I haven’t smelled Dark Horse in a long time but didn’t associate it with a woody vanilla either.
I had the same experience with Earth Mother that CM8 did… soft and plush. I’ll have to re-sniff Dark Horse when the weather cools off. It was definitely a cool weather scent based on my initial reaction.
I was expecting a few curtsies with my perfume choice today. Still waiting…
Queen!
No, but good guess!
Guerlain Petite Robe Noire….?????
Not the one!
Are you… wearing Princess?
No, not it either. I don’t think I even know that one!
You know it, you’ve probably blocked it out. Vera Wang. Notes include apple, mandarin meringue, and “pink frosting accord.” I would have been kind of surprised if you were wearing it.
Ha! That’s funny. Yeah, maybe a mental block. I’m sure I’ve tried it at some point, but I’d be more put off by the name than the scent.
Sa Majeste la Rose?
???????????? You got it Queen LizzieB!
This perfume by a long-standing niche line bears the name of a song from a 1925 musical and a 1950 film, in which it was sung by Doris Day. It became a jazz standard recorded by Art Tatum in 1933 and famously performed by Anita O’Day at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival, and by countless others. Its catchy tune made it the most-played song on the Lawrence Welk Show.
I can’t find any version of this song that exemplifies the scent, which is neither light, sentimental, nor midcentury, but more of a dark, spicy leather, at least to my nose. I think it would sell better under a different name. Bonus points if you can suggest a better one.
Tea for Two?
Yes! I’m still trying to think of a better name, since things like ThĆ© Noir and Epices Noir are taken. Maybe a different song?
Is it Tea For Two by L’Artisan Parfumeur? Possible alternative, Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, Smoky and the Bandit, Lapsang Souchong? āŗā
Yes, those are all better names!
???? Most played on Lawrence Welk, eh ? I can picture someone doing a softshoe, wearing a straw hat, with Tf2 playing. All the older relatives loved that show. ????
I have to fight against that association!
Fun fact: Christopher Walken started out a dancer on that show.
It’s so crazy that LW also introduced the US to the Beatles and Eric Burdon and the Animals. Maybe call the perfume Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHjKzr6tLz0
(Skip the first 13 seconds.)
Ha – I never knew that about C.W. Great trivia!
It was in an interview; he was a child performer even before that, too.
Wait, that clip is Ed Sullivan. Now I’m not sure if Walken was on Lawrence Welk or Ed Sullivan as a dancer, but one of them.
I’m pretty sure neither the Beatles nor Eric Burdon and the Animals would be Lawrence Welk’s cup of tea.
But Ed Sullivan was only marginally less square. ????????
I am so terrible at these things, but is it Que Sera, Sera?
No, but that would be a better name!
I bought some green tomatoes today at the farmers’ market. Actually, they are kind of green and red shaded – an interesting color. And they are smaller than the one in today’s picture. I reached for a perfume with unusual colored juice, too; OS Ombre Indigo.
I have a whole counter of them in my pantry right now, ripening up…we are having a huge production this year, although don’t tell my husband but I just don’t think they taste as good this year. The weather has been too wet.
Use them to make sauce?
Roast them in the oven with olive oil and herbs?
I usually make sauce if there are tons left, but usually there aren’t! My husband eats a BLT nearly every day during the season and we both eat caprese almost every night…I just don’t think it’s a stellar year, that’s all!
AG Neroli today. How I love this one!
You smell great!
Thank you!
That one is a favorite of mine.
Visited Perfumeology in King of Prussia mall yesterday and enjoyed sniffing Kismet by Lubin and Brooklyn by Gallivant – wish I had asked for samples though because my nose was tired and I need to try things thoroughly before committing. Found out from that Gallivant has a new fragrance coming out soon – think major hyper modern Asian city.
Singapore?
Tokoyo ?
Yes Tokyo!
I hit the snooze button about 7 times this morning.
This should be a pretty easy guess: a (very) aldehydic department store classic by a perfumer known for her roses, and one of my old favorites.
Paris?
No but close!
White Linen?
That’s it!
White Linen is such a great fragrance, I love the beautiful rose it contains.
2nd that. It was my signature a loooong time ago.
Sounds like this is worth a sniff the next time I am at the department store perfume counter. Anyone know how it has fared with reformulation?
It was very aldehydic years ago…sparkly, soapy aldehydes. I haven’t smelled it in many years.
If I find the need to respray this afternoon, I will be thunking a small decant of Premier Figuier. Not sure how much was used vs lost to evaporation but at least itās done!
You can always find a reason to respray. Thunk it up!????
I think it is THUNK time!
Respray!!!!!!!
Did you end up THUNKING your decant this afternoon?
Hans Handley Amora. This is a seriously addictive light gourmand. I have not smelled anything like this. FB is in my future.
I also love it and find it addictive. Have you smelled Lush Amelie Mae? I thought that smelled similar-ish.
I have not tried Lush one. In California until very recent, Lush only came in solids (weird!! – and those testers were to yucky for me to touch). Have you tried his other fragrances – I tried Rosenthal and Fume and both are impressive.
I have travel sprays of Amora and Rosenthal. I’ve tried Bourbon and Bourbon EDC (which was a lighter version) and liked them, but I’m not huge on vanilla. Fume I liked but saving it to try in the Fall. Mown was interesting but not something I’d want to wear. Haven’t tried his new one (Blond?) or Jade. Smells like he uses a high percentage of naturals and quality materials. And love that he does travel sizes.
What is it that you love about Amora? I have looked at his website on numerous occasions. Amora sounds very sweet.
It’s just the right balance of sweet, tart, and salty. And the stone fruit notes smell natural and edible.
Thanks Elisa! I will look for it and sniff it if I ever see it. Sounds good especially as a summer scent. Also, I really like that it comes in a travel spray at a reasonable price. Wish every indie did this.
You smell great! Amora is very beautiful. I’m glad I had a chance to sample it.
Which hopefully means a split portion for me???
I am the wood of the island.
What am I?
Cypress?
Box of Eels ????
Correct, Bois des Iles it is
Yay me!
???????????? for BdI!
Hi all, SOTD is Raymond Monegal’s Mon Patchouli. I am trying to use up samples and decants and found this hidden beauty at the bottom of my pile (bonus, my sock drawer smells very nice). I would love a larger decant but will retry to see if it’s FB or larger decant-worthy.
Oh, and a kiwi/lime/Kefir/spinach smoothie and a spicy chai tea to get my lazy be-hind out of bed today. I could not wake up!
Snuggles with the kitty cat and hubby are more fun than workie-work. š
Yum on the smoothie and yes to snuggles. I just bought spinach to try in my smoothies. Thus far I have only used kale
I think I enjoy spinach a little better. It’s milder tasting and I can also throw some in with a Greek omelette or soup.
I love kale but it’s a little bitter for my smoothies.
I will report tomorrow on how it comes out. No smoothies for me and Mr. CM8 today because there were no ingredients-LOL! But now I am fully stocked and ready to go for tomorrow.
What is the Mon Patchouli like?
I love it, the patchouli is very smoooooth, no rough edges or powder and the amber is perfectly balanced, not too sweet. It’s pretty nice! I don’t know if it’s worth $180 though.
So it sounds like it is worth sampling, but not necessarily FBW. Thanks!
Sure!
I have Used Up a small bottle of L’Eau d’Hiver, and should still have at least Malle-sized sample left around somewhere. Making slower progress on the orange Sanguine.
It’s so odd they linked L’Eau d’Hiver with winter — to me it’s too light for cold weather but great other times.
Congrats on your L’Eau d’Hiver THUNK!
My scent is the last rider in the Tour de France (the caboose). Fortunately I don’t smell like the last rider in the Tour… Well maybe a bit, at the open… This scent starts out a bit animalic for me.
I asked my husband….expert of all that is the Tour. Auphorie La Lanterne Rouge! (So, I kind of cheated….)
Sounds absolutely lovely…
Exactly! This one is a shape shifter… 45 minutes of sweet fruity animalics, then a much more pleasant (to me) sweet osmanthus.
I like it a lot, but it only lasted about two hours on me *sad face*.
Wearing Vetiver Extraordinaire and wondering why I don’t wear it more?
I finally figured out how to adjust my new shower head and am happy to report that I had a glorious, misty shower this morning rather than the needle sharp spray I was enduring. I’m honestly starting to wonder if that shower wasn’t destroying my whole mood, because I feel great today!
Yeah, why don’t I wear that more (too)??
I love adjustable shower heads.
Thatās the scent that made me realize vetiver is extraordinary…. you smell fabulous.
For me it was Phlur’s Greylocke.
Vetiver is tricky on me – sometimes it’s weirdly sweet (Fat Electrician) and other times there’s an unfortunate, vomit-ish edge to it (Timbuktu). But VE is perfect.
Has anyone else tried the Harry’s Body Wash (new-ish Target product) in Shiso? It smells a lot like vetiver to me and it’s very nice for the $$
I bought it but currently have Fig on rotation.
I bought the Shiso bar soap, LOVE how it gently perfumes the whole bathroom with a vetiver-y scent.
My scent is described by the perfumer as āthe allure of the sun in a bottleā, which I personally donāt think is the best description…. My days of seeking this skin tone are well past….
Bronze Goddess?
Newp. But very good guess. And maybe Iāll go for that tomorrow….
Terracotta?
+1 from me!
I think Bear is thisclose with Bronze Goddess. I won’t name it but if we are on the same wavelength, the bottle for this perfume makes me think of a clock or even a stopwatch” The cap is the start/stop button, LOL. And I love this perfume!
Yep! Terracotta.
Smelling wonderful in Terracotta! ????
SotD = a purple gemstone in heaven
Brain is tired, can’t think of a better riddle. I bought a small set that includes this purple one plus two siblings, a “noir” and a “boozy.”
Also must add rollerballs are not my favorite. Will have to decant these into spray vials.
Elizabeth and James Amethyst?
I am thinking the same thing
great minds think alike š
š
yes! It is Amethyst.
I am not a rollerball fan either.
go team no-rollers! š
honestly, I would not have bought the little set of 7 ml bottles if I had known. The packaging does not say roller-ball, so buyer beware. I should have thought to open the box in the store to check. But I’m loving the dry down of Amethyst, so that’s a win.
Speaking of Christopher Walken, how did I miss this dance supercut from 2014:
https://vimeo.com/90407771
Christopher Walken is pure genius! Iāve seen and heartily enjoyed his video many times. Thanks for postingā????
I had such a crush on Christopher Walken when I was younger. He attended my high school and also grew up in Queens, NY. Plus, he started off as a ballet dancer before segueing into acting.
Is it bad that I still have a crush on him at the ripe old age of 53? Heās got some great moves. I find his face kind of fascinating…Like studying the Mona Lisa- all kinds of stuff going on under the surface.
nope, not bad cause I will confess that I still do as well (even though he is considerably older than both of us- we are the same age) and yes, his face has always fascinated me.
fabulous video! Christopher Walken is a dancin’ genius.
That was a fun link!
Have you seen the video he did with Fatboy Slim for “Weapon of Choice?” It’s pure dancing walken magic:

Wearing Shalimar (edp), which has the exact name it should have. š
I just have to brag about the eBay deal I got last week…
this 3 oz tester of Shalimar, and a 100 ml scratch-n-dent bottle of Kelly Caleche edp, for $46 total. Two bottles off my wishlist… check!
Awesome deal! And Shalimar is my fav, so I think you smell perfect!
Sampling You or Someone Like You. It smells like laundry soap on me *2nd sad face*
Oh no, laundry soap! ????
I feel your scented pain. ????
Scrubbed it off and now I’m wearing Azemour. Ahhhhh.
Pacifica Sandalwood for what turned out to be a very busy day at work. Forgot to throw the rollerball in my bag this morning, so it’s mostly worn off by now.
Gonna break out some Berdoues samples when I get home. Yay!
Have fun with the Berdoues! ????
Have fun sampling!
Love that sandalwood! perfectly paired with the citrus.
Let us know how you make out with the Berdoues sampling.
Lovely summer weather today! ???? The cats have been sunbathing in every single sunny spot they could find.
SOTD = back in Cristalle EdT. I think that for me, it shines in warm to hot, rainy weather. Today it isn’t quite as sparkly.
You smell great. Glad you’ve had a nice day.
Thanks, KellyC!
Enjoy the ????! Pretty sure smell great!
Oh, believe me, I am! I’ve really missed that bright shiny thing up in the sky.
Thanks for the pats on the back about my challenge yesterday! To answer Hajusurri, no I am not planning on extending it, though I do believe I am done drinking at home. I previously enjoyed a drink in the evenings or a glass of wine or whatever, but I’m over it now. I will, however, probably have one or two at a social event tomorrow.
Today I’m finishing a sample of Nemer. It really is quite lovely to me but not for $875!!! THUNK!
I’m planning a trip to take my sister to NYC for her 40th birthday in March (yes, I realize it will still be quite cold, but that’s the best time for us both haha). It will be our first time there. We are super excited and look forward to exploring together! I’m thinking of renting an Airbnb rather than a hotel room because my son and his girlfriend are thinking of flying up and joining us. Have any of you used Airbnb before? I have not, but have been wanting to try it.
Your liver loves you! Love it back????????
As far as Airbnb, I used it once and had a bad experience, so afraid to try it again. Pretty sure Iām in the minority though. Enjoy your get away!
I have looked at the Airbnbs in the city and they look fairly decent but I have never tried one. Hope you have a fabulous time! Don’t forget to take advantage of all the places for sniffing! I recommend the new beauty on 2 at Saks Fifth Avenue!
I havenāt used it, but know folks who have and have been fine with it. There are plenty of us here in NYC, so I feel free to ask – especially re locations… weāll know convenience and transportation quirks….
I’m sure I’ll be picking your brains when I get closer to booking time!
Very late to the party! My only hint, which I think really gives it away is…
Iām a biblical bada$$ woman, reviled and judged. Heads rolled because of me. The original femme fatale… ????????
Salome!
Oops just saw LizzieB already figured it out.
Salome!
That should have been a question mark….
Absolutely! You and ElisaP are cleaning house! ????????
You know sniffing is definitely on the agenda! And eating. Lots of sniffing and eating. š
Shoot, meant that in a reply to CM8 on my post.
ha! No worries! But I will second what everyone else has said…make sure to ask us about neighborhoods as some are safer than others….especially since your son and his honey are going too.
Well, I started out in Replica Promenade in the Garden, which started out nicely, but went all Tide with Bleach fifteen minutes in. Yeesh! Blessedly, it faded in a couple of hours, and Iām in Iris Nazarena. Ahhh, much better.
The THUNK was the only redeeming feature of this perfume.
ha! well thankfully the thunk was for something very thunkable š
Imminently thunkable.
Ugh, not just Tide, but Tide with Bleach!?! Good thing you THUNKED it.
Yeah, Iām a little afraid to try any more Replicas after that one.
Very late! My clue: I have 25 components and am represented by The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Laurel Canyon, Malibu and Scentbar.
Oh, Iām a RHCP (the band?) fan! Despite all those juicy hints, Iām clueless. I stink at this game????
Wait! California Reverie?
Wait again! Is it le labo? Musc 25?
Correct! Great job, Deva.
Oh! No idea, but I love your clue.
You are LA the city I think, but I have no idea which perfume…and looking up La on Fragrantica makes me pull out my hair!
Looking up most things on fragrantica gives me that feeling.
There is a perfume with Los Angeles in the name, but I won’t cheat and Google it.
Paris*LA?
Yes that is the one !????????
Is the house Juniper Ridge?
Nope. Le labo – Deva guessed it!
I have peaked! Donāt expect anything else from me for the rest of the week ????
Having another busy day at work and cant think too creatively, but guess my scent: A Duchafour creation with a Turkish delight component. This scent was also mentioned in comments yesterday as a guess for what someone else was wearing (though the guess wasn’t correct).
A traversee du Bosophore (disregard horrible speeelink).
????????????
But of course! I enjoy your spelling!
Ooooh, smelling very good!
Oooh. You smell great!
Estee Lauder Modern Muse
Let me guess – youāre wearing Modern Muse!
Seriously, have you tried any of the flankers?
Check out my SOTD. Should be easy for you.
Methinks I got it — replied above!
SOTD = āFleeting Irisā
This perfume from an eponymous fragrance house is said to be fleeting. I say go big or go home! 8 sprays + 1 for extra measure!
Spotted in a garbage can in the office – a Le Labo shopping bag. I know itās not from my co-worker. ????
Commuting Woes No. 450:
Spotted on the train this morning – a couple where the guy looked 30 years older, the woman dressed in short shorts with a loose button down shirt 2 sizes too big half-sitting on the guyās lap. They looked ready to have a quickie before getting off at Newark Airport that they looked upset that I decided to sit in the same vestibule. I wouldnāt be surprised if aborted quickie was actually Round 2 on their journey because they had THAT look.
Chanel 28 La Pausa EDT
I spotted people being indiscreet on the train when I worked 2nd shift and took the 12:12 AM train home, but never in the daytime.
????????????????
You got it Bear!
Speaking of indiscretions, way before a cousin announced his separation from the now ex-wife, I bumped into him and the person with whom he was cheating on their way to Hawaii (I got off at SF.). He was at a loss to explain who she was. Anyway they eventually married, divorced and got remarried. Last year, at the repast after our uncleās memorial service, I had no choice but to sit with them; the wife kept sitting up straight, chest out and waving her hand, the better to flaunt gaudy jewelry that my cousin could ill-afford. Out of all the relatives there (and there were at least 30 of us), only our aunt (the wife of the uncle who passed away) stopped by; instead of greeting him, she berated him to be a better person. Oh the drama! I could write a book!
That Crazy Rich Asians book isn’t yours ? ????????????
(No offense intended, just making a timely joke because I’m seeing the commercial for the movie everywhere!!)
I wish, then I would be laughing all the way to the bank! I do want to see the movie though!
Bear is really good at this game.
Seriously, get a room. 2nd Bear’s guess.
I know, right! And you guessed it right!
Thirding Bear’s guess. And the Le Labo shopping bag wasn’t yours?
Ha!
Your guess is right, but nope, I am dying to know whose it was!
gross.
In my younger days I had a friend who would look for the PDA couples on mass transit and then go sit right next to them and chat them up. Hilarious.
That is funny!
Okay…this sounds cynical I know, but Iād be wondering if there wasnāt some form of āprofessionalā relationship here….
Chiming in with my SOTE, Prada Vetiver from a mini bottle. Hope everyone is having a great week!
