It's Almost-Friday, and it's James Baldwin's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm not doing so great with this week's project, but I smell just as good as yesterday: I'm in Parfums de Nicolaï Eau Exotique again.
Reminder: on 8/3, we'll celebrate Peach Month! You know what to do.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

French Press coffee (taking a break from my usual tea)
Good Girl Gone Bad, the perfume, not me.
LOL! Why NOT you? good girls can be a little “bad” too 🙂
I want to buy that one based on the name alone ha!
Trust me, before marriage I had my nights of debauchery!!!!!!
It was good to let me hair down and get it all out of my system 🙂
LOL! You are so funny! I was a goody two shoes until I met Mr. CM8…..now we are naughty together 😉
Scandalous
GGGB is not my normal thing but I enjoyed it enough to purchase a small 10ml.
It’s sheer but I was surprised to see it has very long staying power!
My teenager and I are heading to Wisconsin’s first and only IKEA today to do some off-to-college shopping. It opened in May so I’m hoping some of the novelty has worn off and it is not too crazy busy. It’s overcast, so it’s the perfect day for a little road trip, some shopping, and some Swedish meatballs!????
I am on theme in Vilhelm’s Dear Polly. Another sample gone.
I need to head to Ikea next week — bought an Eneby speaker and I love it and going to get another. Best Ikea purchase ever since nothing to assemble!
Good luck with the college shopping.
Eat first, guzzle some coffee, and wear comfortable shoes. Have… fun. 😉
Good luck with the IKEA! Comfortable shoes for sure…
Comfortable shoes, a snack and a water bottle. . . 🙂
Good luck with the shopping! I have been doing the same in spurts for the past three weeks for the one returning and the one starting.
and YES to THUNK…another one gone!
Have a great day!
I love ikea! Good luck..you can spend a whole day there
My favorite part is the cafe! Hope you have a successful trip!
Enjoy the day! Good for another CLUNK!
Hope that your trip to IKEA was an easy one and not crowded.
Lovely photo!
Today I have finished my sample of Liaisons Dangereuses by Kilian. A plum/peach scent. It’s yummy, though I find its sweetness rather cloying in the first half an hour or so. The dry-down is delicious.
PSA, sort of. Remember Lush LE shower gels Robin posted about? The ones that were available only in the UK? It seems they are coming to other countries too. 🙂 Lush Ukraine will get them next week. So watch your local Lush’s updates in social media.
Oh, and Lush UK will soon launch LE body lotions. No date yet.
Yay!
I had the same thoughts about Liaisons Dangereuses. I think it would be perfect as a shower gel or shampoo though.
I think you smell grand.
Will keep an eye out for the Lush shower gels then! Thanks for the heads up.
SOTD is Creed’s Fleurs Bulgarie, no peach in it whatsoever, but for some reason I’m feeling the need for a scent with ambergris in it. 🙂
I love how ambergris can make you skin smell salty, and like heated flesh on the beach
That’s a perfect description and precisely why I love it! I have an older bottle and am trying to use up before it turns. 🙂
I was cued by your post yesterday, R, and couldn’t wait for Peach Friday, so am wearing L’Eau a la Folie today. Can’t believe she doesn’t make it anymore. 🙁 If you need a decant, because yours has gone astray, let me know.
Sort of scent twins. I still regret not getting a big bottle of Folie, but my 30 ml bottle still has plenty left.
Have you tried her Corail?
That’s a beautiful fragrance. My dad stole that bottle from me and I am sure he is smelling great like you 🙂
I miss that scent. I went through an entire bottle one summer before it was discontinued. You smell great.
Glad it was so popular and is missed! I’d be thrilled if my Dad wore L’Eau a Folie. He had good taste, but it tended to me more in the classic fougere, Rice Gauche PH vein.
And AF, no, I didn’t get a chance to try Corail. Did you like it? Have you tried Cap Neroli yet? Wearing the heck out of it this spring and summer…
Yes, I do, it’s in the same vein as exotique, turquoise and folie but slightly sweeter, if I remember rightly. I’ve got a small bottle which I forgot to spray today.
And no, I haven’t tried Cap Néroli yet. I kind of want to visit Paris in November and try it then.
And of course that was *be and *Rive. Darn autocorrect.
Thank you Erin! That is on my to-do list for tonight, to do a thorough search.
I am not a huge pie fan, but id love to try that peach pie!
Wearing Jasmin Rouge today.
Still need to pick a peachy scent for tomorrow….i think i have a ml left of shangri la sample, but i dont know if its suitable for an office environment in hot sweaty weather
(no air-conditioning here in our office…just a climate control system that does a very meh job of keeping it erhm…. less warm).
Your ‘less warm’ made me smile. I’m trying to work in a south facing room with no AC, althoug the rest of the building does seem to have it.
That sounds so uncomfortable.
Do you have a fan? Or (if you work from a laptop/pc) maybe one of those small USB fans (Hema has them, for 3 Euro)?
Its not much but i turn it on for only a few minutes to keep me awake, especially in the afternoon when my brain feels really hot and tired.
I don’t have one, I don’t think I will buy one either. I work on different locations and this one is the worst. Still only 2,5 hours to go, so I’ll survive 🙂
I would change places with you. We are always freezing in our office. The AC runs full blast even during WINTER time!!!
Hmm that does not sound great either.
But id rather have a cold office. Because you can dress for cold (layering t shirt with blazer or a cardigan, vest, jumper or whatever it is called haha), you can not undress that much in office when its hot (well you can…but its not my style haha).
Now I have a craving for peach pie.
TDC Jasmin de Nuit today. I forgot how beautiful this one is.
Interesting article on fast fashion:
https://www.fastcompany.com/90208079/stop-buying-crap-and-companies-will-stop-making-crap
I’ve been making a conscious effort NOT to go to TJ Maxx every weekend to buy stuff I don’t need. Our individual choices do make a difference!
I wore Jasmin de Nuit a few nights in a row last week and had the same response. Now that my decant’s drained, a FB is on my wish list. That smokey note really does it for me.
It is amazing the crap I see people buying everyday. I’m amazed at the discretionary income people appear to have. Of course, I’m always thinking about how much perfume they could be buying instead. Lol
thanks for this article, i’m trying to not spend on anything besides food/gas/maybe a plane ticket this month, and this helps me to remember why!
It’s much easier to accumulate crap since my parents generation – credit cards and glut of availability make it too easy. I am really trying to D clutter – easy to bring junk in the house, so hard to get it out!
Peach pie is delicious. I want to bake now but won’t turn on the oven until, oh, maybe October when the temps are lower. 😉
Thank you for the link. I feel better when I buy less and more fully use what I already have. Having too much of anything, especially clothes, can be a burden, making it hard to enjoy the things that are special.
Gucci Rush
You smell fabulous, I love Gucci Rush especially in the summer. I was reading through here looking for inspiration for a sotd and just found it, I’ll join you 🙂
Do I even need to say you smell awesome? Sayin it anyway! ????
Love Rush…Bear you are smelling great!
House twins ???? wearing Gucci Guilty Black pour Femme
I have done very poorly on the community project this week, mostly because I’ve been craving incense lately. Thanks to foxbins’ psa the other day, I am now the owner of a bottle of SSS Incense Pure and have been wearing it at bedtime regularly. Kyoto is still under consideration for a FB. And today it’s De Profundis, from an increasingly balky decant sprayer. As expected, my bell jar order of that got cancelled by the store without much explanation, so the hunt is back on. Tomorrow’s weather is supposed to be much cooler, so I may go with my old friend, Jil Sander No. 4, which has a nice peach note. Happy Friday Eve, all!
Can you share the PSA? I missed it!
Well, now that I’m hunting for it, I can’t find the post. May not have been foxbins after all. The post had a link to the SSS website with a short list (which I also can’t seem to find) of some remaining juice, and instructions to email Laurie at the “info” email address on the website to request what you’re interested in. The remaining inventory may be gone now, as the available inventory was very limited.
Laurie was selling the remains of what she had left after she announced her retirement and had that massive sale. Most of what she sold on July 27th is gone with the exception of full bottles of Incense Pure and one bottle of Fireside Intense. I will try to post the link for you.
https://sonomascent.wordpress.com/2018/07/27/some-final-bottles-available/
Thank you! I knew someone here would come to the rescue. 🙂
I had wondered about Jil Sander No. 4 but didn’t look up its notes. Glad to hear this, maybe I’ll try it tomorrow or just layer it over my Black Pearls today, and be SUPER va-voom! (Not going anywhere, although if my physical therapist shows up, I’ll knock him dead!) I’m not sure I should wear it tomorrow since I’ve got a follow-up visit with my hip surgeon. Maybe after I get home.
Ooh. That would be va-voom, for sure!
No, not me, but thanks for the shout-out anyway, Sheri!
🙂 Nice to have a little cloud cover and cooler temps for a bit here, isn’t it.
Drinking my first ever hot matcha latte (I already have an addiction to the iced version) in an early morning spraydown of vintage Rive Gauche.
My task for the day is to finish painting some furniture (no rain predicted – fingers crossed) and having read about the Mugler Cologne new releases, I may have to wear some of the Original to prepare 😉
https://sonomascent.wordpress.com/2018/07/27/some-final-bottles-available/
Here you go…
and vintage Rive Gauche?? Oh my! wore that one back in the day…you are smelling fine!!!!!!
Thanks for hunting down the link, cm8!
I make hot matcha latte at home, even taught my toddlers how to help out.
I love matcha lattes. Have fun painting!
Do you make your own matcha lattes, or do you get them somewhere?
I was going to dig through my samples for something peach but I grabbed Yves Rocher Fleur d’oranger lavande petitgrain lotion after my shower, so decided to add the edt on top. I think it was about $7, well spent.
I had the EDT in my YR cart yesterday. Can you describe the scent?
A simple orange blossom, mostly – a little bit of bitterness from the petitgrain. I think the lavender and petitgrain keep it from being too sweet. I needs a heavy spray and respray to last all day. Nice with the lotion.
I’m in Nahema today, peachy rose.
Have a great day, all!
Ah, maybe that’s what I’ll wear tomorrow.
Nahema is definitely a contender for “Queen of the Roses”. ????
Wearing a collection of Nicolaï Eaux: Eau exotique, Eau turquoise and Eau à la Folie. The opening of Folie is the fruitiest, and the drydown of Turquoise pleases me most, and I’ve always loved Exotique so I’m very much enjoying my fragrance choices for today.
Plus there must be some peach in all this.
Tea is MF Montagne de Jade
Ooh, a Nicolai party!
Very much so!
Oh yum, you must be radiating fruity joy!
I finished a sample of L’Artisan Arcana Rosa. This is a nice rose, and although Voleur de Roses is my favorite L’Artisan rose, this one may deserve a decant.
Good to know, I was wondering about that one.
I was going to do Ines de la Fressange again, but then I saw the picture of the peach pie and decided to go for vintage L’Aimant. I suspect that it might just be my particular bottle has aged oddly, but the waft from it smells JUST like hot peach pie. Yum.
Oh my lordie!!!! I remember L’Aimant!!!! cheap as chips but oh so gorgeous! Thanks for my walk down memory lane.
I’ve got my peach on with Liz Taylor’s Black Pearls! Va-Voom and we’re off!
Wow, I haven’t smelled Black Pearls in a long time. Va-Voom is right!
Totally forgot about that one. I got a partial bottle in an antique shop a couple years ago, and I think I still have some.
That’s how I got mine–that is, it’s a mini that came with a pretty set of minis I bought in an antique store. I have them sitting out on a glass tray in my guest bathroom, just for fun.
I’m wearing original Juicy Couture for a lazy morning before work. I officially started Christmas shopping last night. Sephora had Anastasia lipstick 2 for 1. It’s my daughter’s favorite cosmetic line, so I got 2 for her. Now… where to hide them? She finds everything!
Ha! In the least likely place she will look! And what a great mom you are!
Right now they are under my mattress but the closer it gets to Christmas, the more she will be looking!
LOL! you need to find better hiding spots!!!!
Christmas shopping already? I wish I could be like you! I will be running at the last minute for sure.
I’m normally last minute, but I’m trying to spread out the damage this year. Since my daughter loves make up so much, my plan is to get a ten dollar gift card every paycheck so I can take advantage of the black Friday sales at ULTA/Sephora this year.
That is a great idea!!! At least the money doesn’t go out in one single shot, which is always very painful! I need to organize myself better for the holidays.
great choice! have you tried the parfum?
I don’t think I have. I Think mine is the edp, but now I’m not sure.
Back when I had a huge Xmas gift list, this is about the time that I would start getting serious about shopping. Since I am down to about 6 people, I can start in October or November.
I’m almost commando, forgot to spritz anything, only wearing Eau de Secret Deodorant.
Another day, a little less smokey, but still hot, shlepping around in too big scrubs, feeling ridiculous. Housing is impossible. Ugh. I want to click my heels and go home.
Today in NOT the day to go commando!
You must be counting the days until this gig is over ;(
Sorry, Deva! Hang in there!!!
Too big scrubs= ugh. Especially when they’re new and stiff. Hope your day flies by!
Le sigh. At least T-Rex is there to keep you company.
No peach here today, although that pie does look good. Feeling chocolatel in Kyse Oui Plus.
LOVE the name of that perfume 😉
My oh my, how I love a peach pie! I’ve been fascinated since someone mentioned apricot pie here the other day. I’ve never seen one and don’t know why: sounds wonderful!
This theme is perfect as I’ve been wanting a summer peach perfume all season. Still on the hunt.
Wearing Allure since it fits, but it is too orchestral for my mood.
Apricot pie would have been me ..the non baker is tackling baking….Baking 101…fresh apricots sliced and placed within a frozen pie shell (no sugar) bake at 375 for 35 minutes….and you can do the same with peaches or any fruit ( I have used apples, blackberries, blueberries and plums)
Sounds great, thanks! Plums also sound like a terrific option. They don’t get as much love as they deserve it the world of baked goods, if you ask me.
Agreed…they are delicious in pies….
We had a plum tree growing up and my mom made a plum cobbler that was/is my fav.
I love plum pies. Plum/cherry crumble is wonderful too.
I think I might join you in Allure for work tonight. Thanks for the inspiration!
Allure is gorgeous! Thanks for the reminder..maybe I will dab some of the parfum later on today
I’ve got to chime in on the peach pie theme to mention my grandmother’s memorable open-faced peaches-and-cream pie. I devoted a little series to it on Flickr if anyone wants to look!
https://www.flickr.com/photos/94283635@N00/albums/72157624709188436
Pretty much my favorite thing I’ve ever eaten, except possibly her rhubarb shortcake. And everything in her home was served with heavy cream on top, of course–good Midwesterners that we were!
That sounds amazing!! My mom makes a rhubarb custard pie – the recipe came from either my grandma or great aunt – that is my absolute favorite. My mom makes it from rhubarb she grows in her backyard in Michigan 🙂
Yeah, that’s where I grew up. Still no peaches to match those Michigan Red Havens! Grandma had rhubarb in her yard too. My brother doesn’t like it and mows his down, and I get really mad at him!
I found my Mom’s rhubarb crunch recipe while here…it was my grandmother’s. My childhood on a recipe card.
I love to go through all those old cards with spidery handwriting. It truly does bring back many memories. I’ve got index cards with recipes my mom typed for me (she was a cataloging librarian and typed them on blank catalog cards) that she prepared for me when I first moved into an apartment in college. One of them is “how to boil noodles”–I kid you not!
Wow!!! delicious!!!
Beautiful photos!
I’ve been wishing I had my Allure with me. Perfect!
Making tarte tatin using apricots or peaches is incredibly easy. Just caramelise the fruit in sugar and butter on the stove top in a frying pan ( cast iron as it has to go in the oven) . Place a sheet of flaky pastry on top, tuck it in. Put the pan in the oven until cooked. Then turn it upside down and serve. so simple.
https://www.bbc.com/food/recipes/apricot_tarte_tatin_49907
Takes seconds to make and is delicious
YUM! Let’s have it with some ice cream on top?
Y’all are making me hungry…and I like those hairy bikers 😉
“THUNK”…..(and that’s all I have to say….went a bit crazy this morning)
LOL!????
#TEAMUSEITUP
Ha!!!
I will have to find something for tomorrow!!
Oh no! I was expecting to be twins tomorrow. LOL!
THUNK! The faster they go the better!!!
Ha ha! I could not resist finishing it 🙂 don’t know what I will wear tomorrow though???
Hehehe… good job! Another one bites the dust.
😉
decided to wear something that wouldn’t give me a headache, so i chose douce amere. so far so good!
Yum, have not worn that in ages!
Landing quite wide of the peach mark today with Myrhhe Eglantine, from a generous fellow NSTer. I’m saving my peaches (via Chopard Casmir) for tomorrow.
What do you think of ME. I am still on the fence.
I love it but sometimes it gets all mushroom on me
I like it, but I like it in the same way I like a lot of the Hermessences – I enjoy wearing them, think they are well done, they make me send a brief mental note of thanks to JCE (or in this case, CN), I love their first hour (or, the only hour, as is often the case), but ultimately, I rarely feel the need to buy a full bottle.
I haven’t gotten the mushroom effect with ME – oddly, I might enjoy it more if I did, since I love the scent of mushrooms. Oh, but there is a tiny bit of earthiness there – maybe this is what you are sensing?
Last night I dug up a forgotten sample of Phoenix Botanicals Peach Tree Garden, which means I can participate in the CP! Yay!
Today I’m wearing that, plus a few swipes of Kiehl’s Original Musk from my rollerball decant.
I didn’t much care for Peach Tree Garden when I first tried it, but it’s kinda growing on me now. It’s fitting for the season.
If it’s too sweet, layer some citrus on top!
My Ormonde Jayne samples have just arrived. The first I tried is Frangipani. I AM IN LOVE. Might need a decant or a travel spray from their sets.
And coincidently, there is lots of peach in there. So good for this hit weather…
Hot not hit!
You smell super good! That’s one of my favs too.
Yum!
Since I like Frangipani and dislike peach in perfumes, I immediately went to check and was relieved not to find it listed either on the OJ site or Fragrantica. I’m wondering now what gives you that peach smell in it. It doesn’t have osmanthus that might smell peachy. Maybe it is plum?
Anyway, you smell great!
You got me curious so I just checked the guide and they also detect peach…
I’m smelling my arm and still feel the peach there!
Actually, the guide detects peach in the flower so maybe it’s just me.
I’m firmly on the peach train in Ineke Sweet William. Most of my peachy perfumes are cool weather scents but luckily today and tomorrow we’ve got clouds and a high of 70.
Last night’s sampling was Replica Beach Walk. It’s a keeper. A good summer perfume, it’s a coconut ylang suntan lotion type. However, as with the rest of the line I’ve tried it has a persistent base of synthetics that last and last. When I’ve sampled these perfumes at night, each one of them is still going strong the next morning and some still linger after my shower – looking at you By the Fireplace.
Beach Walk reminds me a lot of Coty’s Sand and Sable. Love By the Fireplace and also Jazz Club (I think that is what it is called)
By the Fireplace is really good. I had bought a decant of Jazz Club in a split a few years ago, but I passed it on to my boyfriend because it read a little too traditional masculine on me. I tried At the Barber’s on him last night, and it was too strong and on the nose so neither of us cared for it.
Jazz Club definitely leans masculine but I would wear it anyway. I still say you need to try First Cut on your bf!!!!
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t shy away from masculine scents. Jazz Club was one I’d rather smell on him than me. It smells better on him!
Ok, maybe I’ll try First Cut on him. ????
That’s kinda what I said about First Cut….as much as I absolutely adore it , it smells beyond amazing on Mr. CM8
I really like Beach Walk as well, but I do love a good beachy/suntan lotion type scent.
I’ve been enjoying those types of perfume more and more the last couple years.
I sprayed Beach Walk on at a Sephora last summer. A woman sitting next to me on the subway commented on how good I smelled. I rarely get comments in the wild.
That’s a good sign!
Berdoues Assam of India today because Robin wore it earlier this week.
lucas you smell great!
You smell great.
Thank you both 🙂
🙂
I’m in No. 22 today, which apparently has peach in it, though I can’t smell it honestly. Nevertheless, I smell great AND am participating so yay!
To update you all, I’m on day 18 of my no alcohol challenge. I don’t even miss it for the most part. Admittedly, I have avoided several social events because I knew that’s where I’d be most tempted. We have a monthly happy hour at my work where we all leave at 3:30 or 4:00 and go have a drink together and that is tomorrow. I guess I’ll because I don’t want to be unsociable but it’s a new place I’ve wanted to try and the cocktails look amazing. 😯 The food looks really good though, so maybe I will try something tasty off the menu and treat myself that way.
good for you!!! stay strong!!!! and yes, treat yourself with good food tomorrow 🙂
bacon wrapped plantains…yuuummm
I am drooling….
we go to a Guatemalan place that makes the best fried plantains from scratch and they serve it with a yogurt dip…..delicious…..
You DO smell great; and congrats on sticking with the challenge!
Ask for a sparkling water and a wine glass; drinking from the “right” glass can make you feel more like a part of the party…
Agreed…I have been ordering things like club soda and cranberry with a lime haha.
It gets easier! I had to go booze-free for three months because of meds I was taking that really didn’t mix… Seven and a half years later, still not drinking. It just stuck. It really does get easier navigating drink-focused social things, even in the UK where things still revolve around the pub…but drinking something ambiguous looking like a tonic water helps prevent getting pestered with the “just one won’t hurt you” nagging (also: my wine budget moved to perfume budget. Bonus! All alcohol, right?)
I also “warned” everyone up front that I wasn’t going to be drinking. So hopefully going to avoid those last minute “just have one!!”…
You smell beautiful! Good going on the challenge. It’s not an easy thing to do. You do save money, too, so more perfume, lol!
My fiance is happy to save the $10ish dollars when we go out by me not ordering a drink haha!
I was out with a friend the other night who had a mojito and some other drink. The mojito was $15!!???? I’m so out of the loop on what drinks cost these days.
Congratulations! Coincidentally, I am on day 9 of a 30 day no alcohol challenge – I like it!
Is this just a personal challenge that you have adopted for yourself? That’s what I’m doing – I think the hardest part is dealing with social situations.
I tend to be a “all or nothing “type of person, so if I move forward with this, I might have to have some sort of ground rules, like no alcohol at home, only one drink out when in social situations. Or, I could turn this in to a completely healthy lifestyle across-the-board ????
I am dreading being called out on not drinking in public – I know that’s ridiculous – but I’m going to try to keep it under wraps as long as possible ????
I haven’t had a drink in 13.5 years and when I’m out in a social situation that involves drinking someone might ask to order me something and I just say “No thanks” and it usually ends right there. No one really pesters me. The rare situation where someone seems fixated and inquisitive or more pushy, it’s usually the person who is on their 3rd drink of the hour and may be self conscious about their own relationship to alcohol and can’t imagine not drinking. Congrats on your personal challenge!
Thanks Elisa P! That’s good insight.
I usually like to have a glass of wine to relax, but it really just makes me tired and less present – so it’s been interesting analyzing things, only if it’s been for nine days.
I love having someone in the group who doesn’t drink: designated driver!
If anyone calls you out for not drinking, they must still be in High School, and are a BIG LOSER!
Ha! There are a lot of high school students around masquerading as adults ????
The calling out/pestering can be annoying. A vague “meds, not allowed” helps though. Who cares if it’s true?
That’s true ????
It is a personal challenge of sorts. A friend and I are doing it together. I am trying to lose a last 10 pounds and all the empty alcohol calories add up. I tend to want a drink as I’m cooking dinner after work (red wine, anyone?!) etc and I just think it’s too much. There’s a lot of social drinking at my work as well, so I just wanted to take a break for health reasons and also to reset and reestablish the relationship with alcohol. Not sure if that makes sense or not!
I’ve also dreaded being called out in public. I’ve “warned” everyone I won’t be drinking tomorrow to avoid the last minute “awww, come on!”s.
I’m proud of you, you can do it!
That makes total sense! I think it’s great to look at things analytically and intentionally, and it’s so easy not to. I haven’t told any friends about my challenge – not that they would argue with me –sometimes I think when I speak my intention out loud it loses some of its power – I know that sounds a little hocus-pocus ????
I am so glad I saw that you are on this challenge KellyC 🙂 keep up the great work!
“when I speak my intention out loud it loses some of its power”
you’re right… there’s some pretty solid psych research behind that. if I remember rightly, it seems that we get the same sort of mental/emotional reward from stating a goal as from achieving it… so, achieving it becomes less pressing, and the impetus just fades a bit.
Hey there!
I am almost done with my 30 day challenge. It has been rather easy because the weather is so darn hot that drinking anything alcohol makes me even more hot. So mocktails, sparkling water and lemonade in social situations and no one cares.
Many restaurants and bars now have a good mocktail menu, so you could order one and still have a nibble off teh menu and still be sociable.
Mocktails have been saving me. And they’re generally very refreshing. One place had a homemade ginger “beer” that so refreshing and to die for!
Yay for mocktails!
I can only handle 2 to 3 beers, (or one strong cocktail), and sometimes I just dont feel like drinkinh alcohol, so I love it when there are non acoholic options.
Whoops, spelling. That made me look like I had one or two drinks too many hahaha 😉
Ha!
And yes, especially when dancing or when it is very hot, alcoholic drinks never feel like a comfort.
So proud of you all for staying strong!
Congrats on the 18 days. Hope you find a good treat in that menu so don’t feel deprived.
I’m eyeing some bacon wrapped plantains and spicy tuna rice cakes!
Congrats on day 18 of your no-alcohol challenge! ????
You’ve got less than 2 weeks to go, KellyC! You can do it!
Dragging today, despite tons of coffee and spritzes of Herba Fresca.
Everyone has been smelling so good this week; I could copy any one of you at random and be perfect for the theme tomorrow.
Agreed on the dragging and tons of coffee…
You smell great! Herba Fresca might be my favorite summer scent.
Also dragging. One of the cats wanted to play at “Are you kidding me?” this morning.
SOTD is vintage Ysatis. Wore it to work together with a vintage 80s dark brown skintight long-sleeved shoulder padded lurex dress with a gold rosette sash across the chest. (Think Michael Jackson military jacket style.) Oh, and a pair of white-and-brown leopard-spot kitten heels. It all combines perfectly even if I say so myself 😀 Go loud or go home lol.
Blimey, how fabulous! Loving your style.
Excellent ????
wow!
Ysatis is perfect for your outfit. You smell fabulous.
This morning I happened to read this article
https://katedaviesdesigns.com/2018/07/24/a-question-of-proportion/
and have been thinking about clothes as self-expression. I enjoy Kate’s silhouettes, her over-sized 1980s-ish tops and pants make me smile.
Very thought-provoking piece, thank you. The way we dress absolutely is a subconscious form of self-expression, even when people declare ‘not to care’ about how they dress. Scruffy w tattered cardigans, or the same-style black-shirt-and-pants day in day out . . . definitely are an expression of one’s values. As we change so does the way we dress.
I always loved patterns & colour & slightly odd and used to dress rather insanely in my 20s. Now I’ve all grown up and out of it and into 80s lurex office dresses hehe.
Loooove it!
The 80’s had some great styles.
Couldn’t follow my own plan, so I wore Scent of Hope yesterday. I am afraid the top is going off – was very schreechy at first, more than I remembered, but then it smelled lovely. So today, I am in the Finish it up mode, and I dumped the end of my little decant of Opardu on me, since the sprayer had quit working anyway. Maybe not peach, but it smells lovely. My nose has been running all day, which suggests that something in it is irritating my nose, and I am leaning toward not replacing it right away. Someone mentioned vintage L’Aimant, and I have a sample of that sent by a kind NSTer when I first started showing up here regularly. I will wear that tomorrow. 🙂
Opardu! One of my top five!
I love Opardu. I put it on at 6:00 am and now at 2:15 pm, it is inspiring my nose to snuggle up to the back of my hand. More carnation right now, powdery carnation, sooooo pretty! I love the variations in it…
Coromandel for a muggy, misty day. It’s so very different in the summer.
Counting down these last 21 days of commuting is making everything so much better, though, so who knows if it’s really good or bad in this humidity?!
I prefer Coromandel during summer but usually only wear it at night. You smell great!
I started out in a sample of Goest Perfumes Lartigue: “woods, peach, citrus, sun, air”. It wasn’t terrible but smelled a little screechy and too much like some functional product or other. So I washed it off and ended up in MDCI Rose de Siwa. Not peachy, but much better ????
Lovely! Sometimes testing can be hard work.
A shower followed by a partial sink bath, lol. Yes, too much work ???? Glad I only sprayed my arms and not my neck or chest!
Yeek! Functional product is one of my big “Nopes”!
Gucci Guilty Black pour Femme
Nice and fruity sweet – I don’t smell peach specifically, but apparently it’s in there
It’s actually 1/2 really good – and then the other half is a little overdone
I haven’t tried the Guilty Black but I like the original Guilty.
I haven’t tried the original – but this definitely doesn’t smell “guilty” or “naughty” to me – if anything the wearer is guilty of eating too much candied fruit ????????????
It is fruity, but I like it. To me it’s dark, ripe fruity.
SOTM is Lancome Tresor from a mini I have had for who knows how long. Gorgeous! I had forgotten how good this smells. Too big a fragrance to wear to work, but I am not at work today! Probably will re-apply after I go swimming in a little bit.
My older son got his driver’s license today and is beyond excited. It will be a good while before he has a car, though. My husband was taking the boys to the high school yesterday to pick up their schedules and Chromebooks (running behind and probably in a hurry) and got into an accident and totaled his car. Luckily, no one hurt, but now his car will have to be replaced before we can think about any other cars. He might wind up buying a used one from Enterprise car rental, who is supplying the temporary car. They have a bunch of Ford Fusions (which is what he would have wanted eventually and Ford has stopped making). They have a good reliability record from Consumer Reports, so maybe it will be fortuitous in the end.
Tresor is so lovely, and I think you could wear it to work IF you spray discreetly.
So glad no one was hurt!
My bf and his sister both have Ford Fusions and really like them. The only thing I don’t like is that they’re very low to the ground, and that can make it a bit awkward to get in and out.
I drive a Ford Focus right now that came used from Enterprise and I’ve been pretty happy with it too. It’s got close to 200k miles, but no major problems so far (fingers crossed!)
I have a Fusion and LOVE it, fwiw. So glad no one was hurt and yay for your son getting his license. When my son got his, it was an exciting time for him, but worrisome for me lol, so hang in there.
And you smell great in Tresor!
Such a bummer that your husband had a car accident, but glad that no one was hurt.
Gosh that’s scary, really glad it turned out to be just the car.
I’m wearing Auphorie Eau de Nyonya today. I really like this one, thinking about a bottle. I get popcorn and steamed rice, caramel and praline, but not foody and not very sweet. It’s a perfect “wood pudding” scent and very unusual.
There’s a break in the heat before we go back to the 90’s next week and I am really enjoying it. I have to make a Costco run this morning but this afternoon I might putter around outside.
Back from Costco–a bottle of their vanilla extract is $35! I guess there really is a shortage of vanilla in the world.
Yes. I used to buy my vanilla beans for $1.55 each at my local health food store. They have been out of stock for ages. The cheapest I could find online is 11 dollars for two beans. My local supermarket sells one bean in a jar for 19.99.
Hey gang!
1) Giovanni’s Room and Go Tell It on the Mountain was partof NYC curricula, and Baldwin’s essays are pure hot fire.
2) Thank heavens, it’s cooler now in the PNW, after a month of very Arrakis temps! I am in a combo of Karma cream and Boucheron, which sprayed lightly, is delicious in warm weather.
3) (GULP) Gave a heads up to my manager re: my job. Am sad- but it has to happen. Despite the workload and the results, will not be getting a raise, and with a change in overall management, my work from home arrangements have been cut off. So be it: I will have my last day after Labor Day. This is enough time to complete my part of the database migration, clean up any code or processes, and construct an updated process manual.
You do sound delicious. Arrakis! Very funny.
I will never understand the need for management to cut off work from home, especially if one does most of the work independently and results are evident. So short-sighted.
My results and work product is not only higher than previous PMs but also under established timelines . I would work from home 1 day/week during the summer because that cut on down on public transit commuting and allowed reports to be done. Taking that away, then giving me additional responsibilities(an ENTIRE workers worth) and no raise in pay is not only short sighted, but also offensive.
You gave them plenty of notice! Agree with Lizzie B that revoking WFH is a short-sighted move by management.
Speaking of databases, I got my laugh of the day when a tech guy supporting a teeny tiny group (with employees < 1/10 of 1% of our employee population and we have employees in the multiple 6 digits) asked if we can use nicknames to identify employees to sign them up for payroll, benefits, etc.
I had a boss once who complained that my official name “Elizabeth” was too much to type, hinting he wanted me to change everything to Liz. I think I tilted my head, looked at him like he was crazy and didn’t respond.
I’m so sorry you have been mucked about, and your work hasn’t been recognised. Sounds like they are making a very short-sighted decision to not support you properly.
(I’m going to blame you for my current looping ear worm: “walk without rhythm and you won’t attract the worm”)
1) When I brought up what I was doing vs what the job title is SUPPOSED to entail, my results, etc the answer was ” Well, our expectation is for you to be here on site) and a shrug regarding my work.
1a) I know have a request to stay on for longer because NOW the people who management thought would pick up the work are balking at the prospect learning all the necessary processes PLUS learning how to do them in a new database. NOPE.
2) HA! When I visited the Florence Dunes (on the Oregon Coast, which is the indirect inspiration for the book) I had that SAME phrase in my silly head!
Re 1a, I always remember a senior woman in my old firm (she later became Chairman) who was asked to step in and take a bigger role when a big chunk of the senior management left to start another firm. She did it (and jump started her career) but she made them pay her A LOT more.
In other words, sure you could stay longer…but they need to make it worth your while. Their pain has a price.
Oh, that lady sounds quite formidable indeed!
At this point, I will let them dangle. The tech market on the West Coast is VERY tight, someone trained in processes and tech is very tight, and someone who is multi-lingual and who can do clear technical writing is tighter still. Yet management feels the best that they can do is to extend my end date.
Seriously.
We got taken over earlier this year, and there was an attempt to get me to change my notice period from one month to three. I said I’d consider it–if we could come to an agreement of the value of that change. They were horrified that I even suggested this.
They were slightly *more* horrified when I gave notice this Tuesday, and reminded them I was still only on one month…
YIKES! YEESH!
There seems to be a weird bit of ‘penny wise, pound foolish ‘ when it comes to management in companies. People who work already (in the US) put up with so much, but make reason or small demands and it is as if you were about to take the last loaf of bread from their home.
Ugh.
I once made a reasonable request of an employer and when they said they could not grant it, I quit. Three months later they hired me back with a 20% raise and a new title.
Wowzers! That is amazing!
Right now, the employers who I am communicating with are offering 20% more off the bat!
In Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin. Another sample gone! THUNK! This is really good for the hot and muggy day we have here today. It looks like August wants to make sure that we notice its presence.
Iced coffee is not helping anymore. We got an emergency call last night from work and I was at the site with other members of the team until midnight and back again by 6am this morning. I have the possibility to go back home at 1pm, but I will stay late today to avoid working during the weekend.
Be well everyone!
Be well yourself! The weekend is almost here, hang in there!
Thank you Lillyjo! Trying to survive!
ack !!!! hang in there!!! If you can manage to plow through you are better off staying to have the weekend to relax.
I really love Lime Basil and Mandarin…but so does my son…so much so the travel spray lives in his room 😉
and YES!!!! to another THUNK
I also love Lime Basil and Mandarin. On my “to buy list”, maybe for next year. It has a good longevity and sillage, so I always enjoy it!
Don’t buy it…keep your eyes open on the website…I usually get my travel sprays when they do promotions with codes….I will buy a bar of soap and get a travel spray for free…I did this recently because the youngest has a birthday this month…I bought him the Lime Basil and Mandarin soap and got a Myrrh and Tonka travel spray and a Blackberry and Bay sample (both of which came in their own cute little boxes so I will be wrapping all three for him)
I will keep it in my for sure! It is a great deal!
also, when it is your birthday month they used to send you an email with a free travel spray of LB & M with a purchase (which could be a bar of soap) and the shipping is free. Not sure if they still do this though.
Hang in there! And LB&M is VERY refreshing in hot, muggy weather.
Thank you!
LB&M always comes to the rescue on the hottest days of summer!
pl67- I’d be happy to send you a decant of LB&M if you’d like. Shoot me an email if you still have my info.
Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it, but I am ok for now. I am trying to finish the rest of my summer samples and decants, which is not an easy task!
Bleah on the late night emergency! That’s rough to begin with. Then you had an early morning on top of it. I hope that your weekend WILL be a relaxing one.
Thank you! Still at work, but I hope the weekend is more peaceful and relaxing.
I just got home, I really hope you are not still at work anymore.
Just got home now!
SotAM = Ineke Scarlet Larkspur
SotPM = Assam of India
SotAIR = PW Tea Rose
therabbitsflower’s mention of Sweet William prompted me to find my neglected bottle of Scarlet Larkspur. Very summery, and such cute book-shaped packaging. Enjoying the scent of boozy cherries this morning (sorry KellyC!), so I’m peach-adjacent, botanically speaking.
Following in lucasai’s scented footsteps, Assam of India is on deck for the warm afternoon hours. I spritz PW Tea Rose around the room each time I read a few chapters from The Keeper of Lost Things. Many thanks to the NSTer who recommended it. The rose garden, the locked study, the lost coat button, the coffee-soaked manuscript! It’s fascinating storytelling.
It all sounds and smells so lovely!
thanks, Coin-op! it’s better living through perfume therapy. 😉
Peach – adjacent, LOL! a botany joke. I love coming to NST!
glad you lol’d!
Agree, NST is a great place. 😉
Pretty late to the game but I smell like peach rose soap in J’Adore. I bought this bottle almost ten years ago, does that qualify as vintage yet?
Well, it’s probably 3 reformulations ago, so why not?
Wearing Ex Libris today, because my Harry’s fig soap put me in the mood.
Also!
I’ve always enjoyed Sporcle but never made a quiz before, but yesterday I realized there are almost no perfume quizzes. So I made one! If you want to play it is here. I am a little obsessed now so I already have plans for a bunch more. And if anyone else gets inspired and makes one, let me know!
https://www.sporcle.com/games/untilthe/perfumers-sorting-gallery-1
How fun! I just played it, great game 🙂 only scored a 68%, I better go back and hit the books ????
Oh yay, thanks for reporting back! I want to do a range of difficulty levels, some challenging for this group and others more geared to a casual audience. But for now I’m just glad it actually functioned!
Ooh and it gives you stats! Apparently Jardin sur le Nil is the easiest question; apparently most people know who made that one!
Oh, how cool! I got 88%.
This is fun! I got 78%.
I got 36 percent. I stink.
I’m sure you smell great! 😛 the average so far is right around 50, I think I made it too hard
SOTD = 28 La Pausa EDT
I wore this today because perfumelover67 mentioned it is her most favorite perfume. And as to a connection to Peach ???? hmmm Pausa begins with P and it contains 5 letters. Mmmmm okay? OK!
I posted quite late yesterday, including a recount of a cancelled train and not outstanding communication by NJ Transit. Lillyjo asked if delays also occur frequently on the way in and if so, what do I do to mitigate the delays and still get to work on time. Thank goodness delays and cancellations don’t happen as often going in to work and when they do, they happen to trains way after I am already in the office and I am usually in by 7:30. If the delay happens at the beginning of my commute, I make a judgment call to determine if I should immediately turn back around and work from home or wait a reasonable amount of time to assess the likelihood of a train arriving shortly. I am lucky to not have to pre-clear the work from home. If the delay occurs mid-way and I may miss or be late for a meeting, I just send an email to either reschedule or for me to follow up with someone. Other than for emergency situations, I don’t participate in meetings while commuting.
You smell fantastic! I am hoarding my bottle of the EdT, but the day I finish it I am sure I will pay whatever is needed to buy another one. 28 La Pausa took the place of Chanel No.5 Extrait, which was my favorite perfume for many, many years.
Thanks for answering my question. It seems like you really have to be on your toes for these commutes. We only have the bus system and I find it very confusing. I’d never make it in your area. Probably just sit down on the platform and cry. Lol
8 sprays stays the whole day! I haven’t quite made it up to that yet… 3 or 4 seem to work fine for me.
I won’t tell you how many sprays I used today ????
8 sprays stays the whole day! I haven’t quite made it up to that yet… 3 or 4 seem to work fine for me.
Wearing Prada Candy Gloss today for the peach project. 🙂
Have not tried that one yet, now I want to!
Hey NSTers, I’m stuck in SFO with a four-hour delay for my flight to Maryland to see my parents. I walked two miles earlier, then read for a while, then did some work, then drank some coffee. I might go for another walk soon. I’m tragically unscented, so maybe I’ll go to a cosmetics store and spritz myself with something that goes nicely with the 10 Corso Como body oil left over from last night’s shower. Wish me luck that there won’t be any further delays!
I sympathize. Hanging around an airport is very dull.
Five-hour delay now! I really hope it won’t get even worse.
Ach. I try to find a good immersive book in these situations. But with that much delay you could finish one before getting on the plane!
Luckily I have a Kindle that I pre-loaded with three books last night!
Maybe a spa treatment? I once had a pedicure right in front of my gate and people on my flight gathered around and admired my toes – kinda fun…
That sounds lovely! None of that in my terminal though 🙁
Aaaand the delay is now at six hours. Sigh.
Holy cow! That sucks. I’d be bonkers by now. Weather?
Yeah, there was a nasty front near the east coast that messed everything up 🙁
Ugh! You poor thing… you’ll be getting in at oh dark hundred at this rate.
22:40! Could’ve been worse!
That happened to me on my way home from my last vacation. It was exhausting.
Ugh, sorry to hear that 🙁 it sucks!
Delay is longer than how long it will take you to get there. Oy!
Yes! We left after we were meant to have arrived!
My heartfelt sympathies. I once spent over 12 hours waiting to get on a five hour flight.
That’s AWFUL, cazaubon! That’s way worse 🙁 was that also weather related?
Weather and mechanical problems.
Brutal! At least you’re almost there now… I hope!
I’m happy to report that I’ve landed and am safely at my parents’ house now! 🙂
Yay!!
Rahele today. According to LT, I smell mumsy. ????
If that’s mumsy, I guess I love mumsy!
Me too Amy! I don’t know where he gets this stuff? He also referenced that this scent is best for aspiring dandies to offset their canary yellow waistcoat. He is entertaining at any rate.
Mumsy smells wonderful!
He, he. I think so too. Thanks Elisa!
Rochas Femme EDT today. Peaches ‘n’ cumin. 🙂
Ah, that could be another contender for me on Friday.
L’Attesa today, which makes me very happy.
Isn’t it nicely done!
Absolutely beautiful! I agree that L’Attesa makes any iris perfume lover very happy!
Kelly Calèche from a sample (my version of an FB since I bought a lot of 20 carded samples.) No peach.
That photo is making me want to make another peach tart….
I also bought a lot of 20 carded samples of Guerlain Encense Mythique D’Orient last year as a “full bottle”. Affordable price and they will last forever, since just one single spray is more than enough. I just hope they do not evaporate fast.
So far I have never had any issues with a carded perfume sample evaporating. (knocks wood)
I brought a manufacturer’s sample on an airplane recently and when I landed it was empty! I didn’t treat it very cautiously and did not tape the atomizer or anything, maybe I should have – just a heads up!
PS – it was in the belly of the plane
Good to know! I will keep it in mind.
I finally read The Book of Tea (Okakura Kakuzo) which I really enjoyed. Sadly I don’t have any classic tea perfumes so I’m wearing Manuka oil ( called tea tree by early europeans… Not the same thing as Ustralian tea tree…. Captain Cook describes the infusion as bitter and agreeable. You make it with fresh leaves and it is a nice green tea colour. It is very bitter.)
I am guessing this is the plant the famous and apparently miraculous Manuka honey comes from? They sell it for a fortune in North America and claim it has amazing curative properties.
Friday here already! I’m doing the peach thing with Mitsouko. It never fails to make me feel good.
You smell wonderful!
Twins! Joining you in Mitsouko. I found my sample of vintage parfum.
Most of my sample must have evaporated and the drop or 3 I put on tonight is pretty strong, but I still have a wear or 2 left, so no “thunk”.
Tomorrow is a half-day for me as we have a family wedding this weekend. Should be lots of fun. I’m still deciding what perfumes to take. It’s an outdoors wedding at a Botanical Garden in the late afternoon. Should be hot again! Any ideas??
Would you consider something like Terracotta or Bronze Goddess? Or are BWFs a no-go?
Thank you!! I have both of those. BWF are not a ‘no-go’ for me, but I’m hoping I don’t attract a bunch of bees or wasps.
You should see all the jewellry I packed tonight as well; just because I can’t decide on that either (or dresses for that matter, I packed 3). Thankfully we are driving, not flying, so weight or size shouldn’t be an issue. Next is shoes..
Some blue skies and sunshine in my area today. so my disposition is somewhat improved. Did have a brief soaking shower earlier this afternoon, and I’d bet that it’s a sauna outside. I’m not terribly interested in going outside to check on that. ????
SOTD = Roses de Chloe EdT, from the sample stash. Lighter is the way to go right now, with the insane amount of humidity in the air. This is a lot better than I expected, but my favorite of the new-ish Chloe scents is still the L’Eau de Chloe EdT. I should probably get some of that out for the soupy weather… August is just getting started!
Wasn’t the sunny, blue skies uplifting this morning? It did make a difference until I hit Manhattan which was a sauna.
L’Eau de Chloe was also my favorite, but Roses is nice and easy, too.
Yes! It did me a world of good to see blue instead of grey.
Yay for your sunshine!????
I really enjoyed it today! I think the cats did, too. ????
Despite the sunny day, it was TOO MUGGY!
Yesterday was far worse for me. We had the AC going in the house, and it still felt humid well into the night!
It was a sauna, and raining again when I came out of yoga this evening. I feel like we’ve been robbed, first of spring, now of summer! I am owed a good 3 months of decent weather 😉
Robin I totally agree! and we also had way too much snow last winter 🙁
