Zadig & Voltaire Girls Can Do Anything ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 24 July 2018 16 Comments

French ready-to-wear line Zadig & Voltaire will introduce Girls Can Do Anything, a new fragrance. The 'Girls Can Do Anything' slogan is part of an ongoing campaign, and appears on a number of the brand's products, from t-shirts to shoes to iPhone cases.

The notes include jasmine, chestnut, sandalwood and vanilla.

Zadig & Voltaire Girls Can Do Anything will be available in 30, 50 and 90 ml Eau de Parfum.

(via parfumdreams.de)

Update: the description from Zadig et Voltaire..."Girls can do anything becomes the name of a signature trail, the perfect incarnation of new femininity, free, uninhibited and impertinent! A bold fern twisted by the delicate pear/Tonka bean duo and exalted by a musk-infused vanilla. An ode to olfactory liberation!" (There is no mention of jasmine, chestnut or sandalwood so perhaps those notes are incorrect.)

Those notes sound interesting. Some of their other perfumes have favorable reviews. I wonder if these are widely distributed in the US?

Not widely, in fact, you can get them here but not sure they have official distribution at all at the moment.

When I was in my early 20’s I was all about grrl power. Now I’m tired, and this girl doesn’t want to do anything, lol. Is there a perfume for just wanting to sit down?

I think Sleater-Kinney said it best
“they took our ideas to their marketing stars
And now I’m spending all my days at girlpower.com
Trying to buy back a little piece of me”

This kind of marketing grates on me.

Agreed. It’s odd how ‘girls’ need to be told they can do anything . . . as if they wouldn’t be able to think of it themselves.

On a par with silly statement T-shirts.

Don’t get me started on women being referenced as ‘girls’ . … lol . ..

THANK YOU! The fact that it says “girls” rather than “women” is the thing that bothers me most, but no one else seems too upset about that.

I consider myself a committed feminist, but in this context, ‘girls’ in the message “girls can do anything” does not bother me. It is presumably geared towards youngs? I don’t much care for the message in general, and I certainly don’t care for monetizing it, but making it “women” would not improve it for me — it might make it worse. Presumably the only reason you need the message is so you can tell people who are still in the process of growing up. A grown women presumably already knows what she can or cannot do.

And not meaning to argue with you Koyel…just been thinking this evening about why this bothers everybody.

My retired husband was watching the local news at noon and noticed it’s followed by the soap opera The Young and the Restless; we realized that a show about people like us would be called The Old and the Settled. I’d say anything I’m wearing is a sit down perfume.
Everything about this perfume would irritate me if I had the energy.

I wonder if it was supposed to look like a water bottle.
