A very happy World Chocolate Day to you! We're celebrating with our usual open thread poll (and this one will last for 3 days because I will be on the road Monday, and so won't be back for another post until Tuesday).
Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, your favorite chocolate fragrance or chocolate bar, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

World Chocolate Day!!!!
Cazaubon, lillyjo, perfumelover67, calypso, Robin and any and all NSTers going through a rough patch (and forgive me if I left anyone out!) this song’s for you-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcQ-tNFQleI
I am smelling great in lashings of Melograno…I decanted into a dark bottle so that I can splash rather than spray.
CM8, thank you for thinking of us. I just listened to that encouraging and beautiful song and it touched my heart so deeply, that it brought me to tears. It is always good to be reminded that that no matter how dark things are there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. This situation might take very long and it is nice to see that there is always someone who cares and comes with the right word at the right moment. Thank you! ????
I also hope that the rest of NSTers going thru difficult times are much better soon!
You are very welcome and I am glad it cheered you up a bit 🙂
Thank you CM8! I also wish for some peace for everyone here. You are very kind to cheer us up with this happy tune. ????????????????
I don’t know why but I was thinking about all of you this morning and the song popped into my mind…it was one of my favorites almost 40 years ago.
I think of you all alot. There is alot of good smelling love around here ????
Hey thanks! Very bouncy and cheery song!
🙂
Thanks for your kind thoughts, that was sweet of you.
Any time , my friend 🙂 Hope you are feeling a bit better this afternoon.
This is a song I’ve been listening to that’s been comforting to me as well:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aBHcUv_42zI
that’s beautiful….and I can see how it would give you comfort.
THANK YOU, listened to it twice. Then I listened to the Pearl Jam cover, and then Fountains of Wayne. I’ll stick with the Kinks for this one.
Ah, you are quite welcome…music really can soothe the soul 🙂
Eddie Vedder can make the happiest of songs sound sad.
It is so true! He needs the Kinks version himself.
This is always a happy place!Hi my perfumed friends!a GINORMOUS GROUPHUG is called for!!Sending love to all who have touched my perfumed life in some way recently!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
🙂
yay, CM8! That’s a perfect song for today.
In offline life, and I guess here too, I tend to keep troubles to myself, but even so, I am hugely grateful that NST is a kind and caring community where we can share the happy and the sad and day-to-day musings along with fabulous perfume in long run on sentences with smileys and exclamation marks. Or not! It’s all good.
Perfectly put, tiffanie 🙂
Delurking just to weigh in on comforting songs! When my son was really really sick and I was totally worn out, and it felt like everyone wanted me to give them happy updates and I just had nothing left to give… I’d listen to this song, very loud: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oz6UptPNbdA
Really sorry Cazaubon, I missed what happened, but hoping you and everyone else coping with something difficult will be a in a slightly better place very soon.
XXXOOO, OF in Shalimar
Sampling Oud Picante from Areej Le Dore. Too bad it’s discontinued since I’m really liking it. So far I’ve liked everything I’ve tried from the line.
Would really love to have a live swap party in the Boston area. Getting stuff out of storage has shown me that I have way too many samples and bottles that I didn’t miss. My screen name is also my yahoo address if anyone is interested
Hope you have a great live swap party, that sounds so fun!
Good afternoon Now Smell This!
My parents flew off to Turkey for summer vacation this morning. I had to drive them to the airport. Waking up at 3 AM on Saturday didn’t belong to most enjoyable things but I slept those hours that I missed during the daytime.
I had some nice scores on sales today, got 2 t-shirts and a pair of sandals.
SotD is Carner Barcelona D600, I find this smooth iris-vetiver to be a perfect scent for a summer day with mild heat (26*C today)
I’m still contemplating what to buy as a treat for my blogoversary. Any suggestions are welcome.
Oh, and I couldn’t resist and bought a decant of VC&A Neroli Amara in a split. Hope it arrives next week.
Berdoues Peng Lai? Or did you buy that bottle already 😉 ??
No I didn’t. Sephora in Poland doesn’t sell them yet.
You are a wonderful son, airport drop off and pick up is a tremendous kindness.
I enjoyed your interview with Jillie over at Chemist in the Bottle. Hope you find the most perfect new scent to mark your recent milestone.
Luckyscent has Comme des Garcons’ Vogue 125 on sale right now, half price — maybe that would be good for your blogoversary!
Chanel Les Eaux samples arrived yesterday! I shall be trying them today and will weigh in later.
Happy Saturday!!!
Have fun with them. Curious to hear which one you like The most
Wearing Biarritz and Venise.
They are both quite enjoyable and have the Chanel DNA….will see how they develop and how long they last.
Exciting! Like lucasai i would love to hear what you think of Chanel’s new eaux.
Yesterday I wore Biarritz and Venise and I preferred the latter.
Biarritz was citrus and floral to me and didn’t last as long as Venise. Venise was more interesting to me…floral w/ some woods and vanilla…kind of reminded me of 1932 EDT at times. They both are easily identifiable as Chanel when sprayed I think.
Today I am in Deauville…which smelled like Coco Mlle Light with the opening sprays. 😉 Will weigh in later w/ how it develops.
I spray them like they are bottles of Jean Nate!
Too bad the price isn’t the same????
Ha! As someone who wore and loved Jean Nate back in the day now you make me want to try them…although knowing what I paid for Jean Nate back in the day I would be annoyed at the Chanel price 🙁
Thank you for the Chanel eaux thoughts. During summer travel I’ll have an opportunity to visit a boutique, hope they have tester bottles.
She-ra, my fave was Venise, followed by Deauville. Biarritz was least interesting for me.
In honor of World Chocolate Day, I have to tell you all about some cookies that a friend of mine made for me the other day. They had chocolate – of course – oatmeal, and coconut. They were utterly delicious. Slightly crispy on the outside, consistent in thickness (no mounding in the middle), not too sweet, a hint of salt, and chewy as all get out. She said she used this recipe:
https://www.twopeasandtheirpod.com/recipe-for-coconut-oatmeal-chocolate-chip-cookies/
But instead of chocolate chips she cut up a good quality chocolate with hazelnuts bar.
Friends, I was in a blissful daze as I ate 10 over the course of the evening. No lie. The pull was inexorable. I would rush to make a batch myself, if I weren’t absolutely sure that I’d eat them all in one sitting.
My SOTD is Fleur Liquide, by Memoire Liquide. It’s a lovely white floral, not too big, with some citrus tang.
Yum, those sound wonderful and I actually have the ingredients on hand, I think! Not the fancy chocolate bar but I bet with chocolate chips they’ll be just fine too!
I bet they will be scrumptious with chocolate chips. There was something about the chewiness that made them irresistible. They were chewy, but not “underbaked chewy,” which is okay but not perfect. They had a thin outer crust that was a little dry and almost crispy, and a moist, chewy interior.
Can you tell I’ve been thinking about them quite a lot? I might have to write a haiku, or something.
They sound like the ultimate cookie – chewy is what I’m always looking for, with a crisp interior. I’d add a couple of cups of nuts, myself (maybe they’re called for in the recipe? Didn’t look.)
When I make cookies, I freeze the dough and bake them off a few at a time (I keep some of the dough in the fridge.) That way you always get freshly baked warm cookies, and can control the risk factor 😉
I am, however, a person who finds it totally reasonable to eat multiple cookies in one sitting. Last night, in fact, my husband and I shared 3 cookies, a slice of cake, and each had a mini cannoli for dessert. They were from 2 bakeries in Cleveland’s Little Italy and were absolutely divine. I’m already plotting a return trip, as the dozen+ cookies we bought were not nearly enough!
Hey, with the unpacking, I’m sure you more than worked off the calories!
That’s a really good idea to store the cookie dough ‘nubs’ in the freezer. And adding chopped nuts is even better, as I’m not a coconut fan. I’d pan toast ‘em first to up the crunch factor.
I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying the exploration of your new city. ????
ooooh, yum, those cookies look delicious. I love that blog, there is a breakfast casserole recipe I have made many times.
Which casserole recipe?
https://www.twopeasandtheirpod.com/bacon-potato-and-egg-casserole/
It’s delicious. My son can eat half the pan in one sitting. 😉
I stopped at the sausage egg cheese and maple butter breakfast sandwich! ???? yummm….I think I’ll be subscribing to another food blog…
Those sounds absolutely delicious!
It looks like several of us are working on Project Use It Up this summer. Who has made the most progress? Are there any re-purchases planned or is it goodbye forever? Is is fun to wear something repeatedly, at times you normally wouldn’t?
I have used up one so far (the Ivoire) . This morning it’s No. 19, despite being nowhere near a) work or b) a situation needing spine-stiffening. It’s pleasant but a bit where-am-I? – oh right, it’s Saturday and I can go back to the sofa…
LOL! go back to the sofa…no work today despite wearing no 19 🙂
I think johanob has made the most progress…he finished 3 or 4 bottles this week!
I have no repurchasing plans at the moment…I am just going to keep using and enjoying the ride….thus far nothing on my “to buy” list. What about you? Finish it up or repurchase?
Johanob has made excellent progress! I am at a steady state: it is in fact a case of whittling down my backup bottle collection. Next might be the Ferre or the Orange Sanguine…
I think Orange Sanguine would be a great one to finish in the summer !
Oh yes.a fun one to finish!
I sure did!Haha!Ginger Biscuit was the easiest and most fun to finish up.I started with Muscs Khoublai Khan today….lol.
OH BOY !!!!!
CM8, this post is also for you. Just to report that this couple of days at home have been good to finish 1 full bottle: Demeter Green Tea; 1- 10ml decant: Demeter New Zealand; some large samples: Lorenzo Villoresi Acqua di Colonia; Yosh Trompeur; Wild Child EdP. I just dumped the whole samples on me in one single use. Let’s see what else I can finish during the weekend. No big progress, but it feels very relieving seen a little less in my cabinet.
AnnieA, so far nothing is worth of being replaced, except for New Zealand, which I find to be a great green no-brainer for hot days. It made it to my full bottle shopping list, but it is not a priority.
I love this idea of finishing bottles and seen so many of us commited to it. I think, I will try my best to finish as much as I can in the next couple of weeks, especially samples and decants.
wow!!! You are on a roll! Keep going !!!!! I too tend to dump the vials due to my scent eating skin…no regrets! and we smell really great in the process 🙂
I also have a scent eating skin. That is why I always have to spray on clothes. Samples for me mean a one single use for the same reason. Unless, I find something very strong. In that case I finish it in 2 uses. And of course we smell fantastic in the process! ????
Excellent work! Sometimes I semi-cheat with samples and decants, as I have a friend new to the perfume world and I can just send a batch of stuff to her.
that’s not cheating…that’s spreading the love 🙂
I think I need to try the Demeter New Zealand. I will have to order it from USA!
The reviews I have read of people from New Zealand say that the perfume does not smell at all to New Zealand. The only thing that I know is that it is a very simple and good green perfume that I really enjoy and the price is unbeatable.
Sounds good to me.
Good going there with our mini-project!????????
Trying my best!????
So far, I think I’ve only finished 2 samples, Daim Blonde, and Dame Manderin, Neroli and Ceder. I wouldn’t say no to a fb of Dame Blonde, but I think I’m more interested in a bottle of Bottega Venetta.
Enjoy your sofa
Thought I was grabbing Iris Poudre, but after I sprayed lavishly, turned out to be En Passant! The little travel sprays look the same at a glance. Equally fine. 🙂
The punishing heatwave we had here all week has abated. I am starting a 10 day staycation today, and this is great weather to putter in my yard, haul some stuff from the attic to the recycling shed and thence to the recycling center. I intend to take long naps, and generally recover from the nightmare software upgrade we just completed, after months of incompetent work effort and unnecessary drama from the vendor, the in house hardware support team and other people associated with the project. Blergh! I really need to find a new gig…
Ah well off to the grocery store to stock up on treats for my in house holiday. Tomorrow we will be having mimosas and crepes, both savory and sweet, instead of plain old pancakes for breakfast. …. she said, wafting out the door, trailing the scent of lilacs and vacation cheer!
My goodness, it sounds a LOT like our computer so-called upgrades. The project manager had a gem of an adjective about the process: “vexing”.
The in-house treats sound very tasty, and glad the Malle tiny-label situation worked out well.
Our IT Director says there is a “Glitch” in the system. ????
A favorite line from my systems analyst days was “it’s a feature not a bug.” And my manager often said it with a straight face.
Computer so called upgrades! LOL!
I love staycations! Sounds like you are going to kick it off right! Enjoy!
Whoo hoo! By binge watching the episodes of Grey’s Anatomy with the shooter…
In Paris today and visited Nicolai, Jovoy and Goutal. Had a great experinence at the rue de Richelieu Nicolai where Fanny was very patient with my desire to smell everything. May need to return for some candles for gifts. Jovoy is an amazing store even though most everything is over my budget, it was fun to sniff brands I normally have no access to. Goutal was a tiny tiny corner; not really a fan of the new bottles but the SAs were very friendly. Right now I’m wearing a melange of PdN but tomorrow it will be Fig-Tea- it is hot here, although not as hot as Pittsburgh has been while we have been away.
Thanks for the Paris updates!
Yes, enjoying your posts…what a wonderful trip.
Yay! (And I love Fig Tea, did not even know they still made it. If you come back and see this, do tell us if there are scents in the store that aren’t on the website!)
Yay! A visit to a Nicolai!
I am wearing Providence Perfume Company Ivy Tower from a small sample I have. It is smelling very beautiful on my skin. Very green and floral.
That sounds like I should try it again.
I’m testing Oscar Flor today (yes, yes, after its 4-star inclusion in P:TG 2018, and I’m still trying to caution myself to not test every.single.4-star). My first impression was, if you already own Tommy Girl you don’t need this, but my second impression is that Oscar Flor’s drydown is really fresh and appealing in hot weather.
TBH, I just got home from the produce stand with, among other things, some cucumbers and a cantaloupe, and was a little astonished to realize that the melon-cuke smell in the car was ME, and not the produce. I happen to like this effect, but of course your mileage may vary.
I love cucumber and melon to eat, but not very fond of it on my skin.
Two tastes and smells I cannot tolerate in any form.
My sister puts melon cucumber shower gel in the bathroom when I visit her to make me crazy.
Oh, she also sends me melon cucumber car trees to make me crazier????
I have one aunt that loves everything melon, and one that can’t stand it because she says she “can’t get it past her nose” to eat it.
Melon cucumber car trees -> that just made me a little nauseous.
I think maybe missing out on the melon-cucumber trend in the 90s is helping me here.
For World Chocolate Day I ate a chocolate chip cookie dough Larabar and enjoyed it.
I just spritzed on some JM Vanilla and Anise. I have noticed that if I put on my SOTD and then sit outside by my flowering plants, I will often see a butterfly coming over near where I am. As soon as he/she realizes the scent isn’t coming from a flower, off they go! Several times, a nice Monarch came sailing over shortly after I went outside. I’ve also seen Red Admirals do this. Could just be a coincidence, but I like to think they’re checking out where the scent is coming from.
How interesting!!
That is my favorite lara bar, and most certainly the butterflies are flitting by to appreciate you! 😀
When I used to use Aveda’s Control Paste, bumblebees would frequently circle my head before sadly flying away. This didn’t bother me at all, but my friends were often freaked out by my halo of bees.
I’m in SMN Eva for a haircut appointment this afternoon.
House twins! How do you like it? they have some pretty interesting fragrances in the line.
I love Eva! I especially like how the black pepper note kind of swirls around the orange blossom note. It has an almost silky feel, but fresh … if that makes any sense.
OOO that sounds really good! One day I will make a trip to a SMN boutique and give a few of them a test drive.
Yum.
I did my Saturday chores with the dry down of last night’s Coromandel wafting while I cleaned my house. It was pretty awesome, if I do say so myself. My chores are finished, at least as much as they are going to be this week. I made two huge fruit cups which I will be taking to my niece’s combined graduation party. Two from college and one from high school. We now have a CSI, a librarian with a masters in art history, and a the youngest will begin her first year of college in the fall. She wants to be an actuary, Ooph! It’s fun to see all of their differences.
SOT afternoon will be Lumiere Blanche which is perfect for a family gathering.
Wow! those are some fantastic careers and all quite different!
Nice to know that it is World Chocolate Day! By coincidence I’m meeting my sister for lunch at the chocolate cafe. They also have really great sandwiches but the main event is the great chocolate afterwards. They make these amazing little chocolate shots that are like espresso but with chocolate instead of coffee. Yum.
I’ve been fixated on Shangri La all week. I love it best in the summer though it might seem more cold weather to others. Shaking it up a bit with Slowdive today…the honey notr shouldn’t be out of place at the chocolate place, right?
Ooh, I looove Slowdive, should go great with chocolate.
World Chocolate Day! My palate know no bounds – I had a small slice of chocolate cake, a chocolate chip cookie an hit now, this:
https://www.benjerry.com/flavors/pb-doughable-chocolate-ice-cream
Tonight, we’re off to Tanglewood to see a production of On the Town, music by Leonard Bernstein. This year would have been Bernstein’s 100th birthday were he to be alive.
Have a great weekend everyone!
That ice cream looks amazing. B & J’s chocolate based ice creams are superior imho though I make allowances for the vanillas from time to time. 😉
Enjoy the performance…love Bernstein.
He was prolifically great!
That ice cream!!! Death by chocolate…and of course I want some!!!
Yep, and I had more today ????
If you haven’t yet tried it, I highly recommend B&J’s New York Super Fudge Chunk.
Now THAT sounds like heaven in a tub!
It’s one of my favorites. Chocolate Ice Cream with White & Dark Fudge Chunks, Pecans, Walnuts & Fudge-Covered Almonds!
I have to look for this next time!
I thought they discontinued that one? Or am I thinking of Dastardly Mash, which was pretty much NYSFC plus raisins? I stopped eating B&J after I could no longer find it and am now a confirmed Haagen Dazs girl. Any time I try another brand I’m disappointed.
I like Haagen Dazs, as well – it’s a very rich, substantial ice cream. Their Rum Raisin is good, as is the Dulce de Leche.
I’ve never gotten past the vanilla bean. Yummy. ????
How fun! We had tickets to the Seattle Symphony’s Bernstein celebration but moved before it happened (my MIL went in our place.)
Now I want to get my hands on all his recordings!
How’s the weather in the Berkshires? My sister and I are leaving tomorrow for a theater trip–2 shows in Stockbridge, 1 in Pittsfield. Can’t wait.
It’s absolutely perfect and gorgeous. High 70s low 80s dry during the day and high 50s low 60s at night . Layering is the way to go!
How was the performance? As good or better than the chocolatey treats and weather?
It was marvelous. There was no set to speak of with the Boston Pops taking center stage and yet they managed to perform a full production with nothing but chairs, benches and a table that got moved in and out as needed. The conductor was the scene narrator.
I will be honest, I don’t think I go a day without eating chocolate, today I’ve already had a nutty buddy ice cream cone, and a little Debbie cookie. Inspired by Jessicas review yesterday, I am retrying Outrageous. It’s ok, but I get way to much ambroxan. It doesn’t seem to last long on me, I will probably finish the sample today.
I don’t go a day either – a must !
Chocolate love!
Totally with you on that one!Chocolate makes be NOT become addicted to something else….Lol!Sanity prevails!????????♂️????????
I’m with you, girl. I recently tried to break my addiction by replacing dessert with yogurt, carrot juice and hazelnuts. It actually worked for a while, but I’m back on the chocolate 😉
It’s pretty rare that I go a whole day without chocolate too.
I’m mostly staying inside today and so I sprayed 1740 (Marquis de Sade) with abandon. I love this juice though not the name. Leather, smoke, patchouli galore, spices, and something sweet and caramely that only emerges after about an hour and is delicious. I want to bite my wrist! Resting my sore leg on the bed surrounded by cats (five at present) and thinking of watching another episode of Detective Lewis on Amazon Prime. Lazy day.
Have you seen the British series Unforgotten? It’s well acted…police drama, a team who work on historic murder cases.
Yes, I have seen some, and liked them a lot. Will have to look for more.
I watched both seasons of that recently and enjoyed it. That actress seems to be everywhere right now. I think she was also in Collateral (with Carey Mulligan). The latter was particularly good and I do wish it were a series rather than just a one-off.
Nicola Walker is so *very* watchable. Have you watched “River”? A lot less cozy than Lewis, but compelling viewing.
She is. I’ll look for River- I’m pretty sure I haven’t seen that one yet. Thanks!
No chocolate yet for me, just a few spritzes of Sienne l’Hiver.
Hope you are relaxing and find some comfort and peace today. And maybe a little chocolate too. 😉
I read your recent post, and I treasure the picture you sent me with your beloved doggie-friend.Sending love and many many hugs!!❤️❤️
Thank you Johanob, I miss her terribly. She was so wonderful.
Cazaubon, i have to tell you about what happened the other day when you told us Dot had died. I took my dogs out for a walk in the forest and hill, as we came to a beautiful plateau area off all the tracks with a view of the sea and harbour the sun was just rising and the sky was flushed an incredible pink salmon colour. There was not a breath of wind and the gorse bushes and kanuka were all sweet scented. We stopped and the sky got more and more beautiful and I said to the dogs, ‘That will be Dot. She was a good dog.’ And then, as we began to walk away something bright caught my eye and I bent down and it was a copper coin…a US penny with Abraham Lincoln. I have no idea how that coin could have got there ….the strangest thing.
Wearing Coco Madmoseille Intense.
Safe travels Robin. Take some Bob Dylan for the trip.
Oh thank you Kanuka. I was lying on the couch crying and thinking of her, and I asked her to please send me a sign that she was okay. She sent it via you. I am so grateful to read this.
I wish I had a photo of the sunrise to send you. It was so peaceful and beautiful and it felt like a sign to me too. Sending you love.
I can see it in my mind’s eye. When my previous dog died, he sent me a beautiful rainbow. I am glad to feel her spirit at peace.
Cazaubon, I hope you are feeling better today. I have no other words of wisdom for you.
I never ever go on a trip without Bob Dylan. (My son likewise never gets in the car with me without noise canceling ear phones.)
LOL!
That is beautiful, Kanuka, and you smell great in the Coco Mad Intense!
I am sampling a new (to me) niche perfume called Fo’ah.
Beautiful and trying not to swoon since it’s expensive.
Notes from the website for this one:
HEAD NOTE :
Bergamot from Calabria
NOTE DE CŒUR :
Centifolia Rose, Jasmine from Grasse
BASE NOTE :
Palm Tree Note, Patchouli
Spent the day watching the World Cup ⚽️
This perfume sounds good! It makes me happy that you are enjoying the World cup so much????
It is lovely. I bought two samples off the evil bay this quarter, this one and the Hermes
Yesterday’s games were very good, I met some friends at a pub for the second game and that was filled with much more excitement just being around all the people instead of at home.
Happy Saturday!Well it’s Sunday already over here…lol.(1:56 am,freezing cold, making hot milk with nutmeg and honey for my insomnia)….
SOTD was Serge Lutens Muscs Khoublai Khan.Part of my JUST FINISH IT-project!This is one fragrance where I always remember a part of what Turin said in the original Guide about it…”soupy, sleepy warmth”,and that’s about right.Love it in the cold weather.
This has been only my second wearing from this bottle so it will definitely take a while to JUST FINISH IT.Haha!
Just to add,I’m a lavish sprayer/applier.Yes I am that guy in the elevator who reeks havoc and goes back to spray a top-up on top of the 12 sprays(standard, layered, different body parts(lololol)and clothes)already sprayed.Haha!
I love perfume,and I love smelling AWESOME.the end.????????♂️????
❤️❤️
P.S.Favorite chocolate discoveries of 2018!
Reese’s Peanut butter cups.Addicted!
Miky Way chocolate bars. That goeey centre is DEVINE.
M&M’s Peanut butter, technically not chocolate, but who cares lol.
Lady Godiva-just about everything!
Lindt has a new range out-well new to me at least-all sorts of fruit+chocolate+superfood combo’s in a nifty bag.The Blueberry one is beyond yummy.
I love perfume,and I love smelling AWESOME.the end.
TRUTH! You smell fabulous and your words made me smile.
Mailed you a scented letter a while back, hope it finds you someday soon.
I adore Milky Way bars. if I buy one at the grocery store it is eaten before I get home.
Glad to have made you smile!
Looking forward to the letters,I will definitely email you when I receive it and also mention it here!I’m yet to receive one,but we know how snail mail goes…Milky Ways are the best!x
The reeses pb cups with reeses pieces inside are phenomenal. I also love perfume and love smelling awesome, the end ????????
Haha!United we stand in Perfumed Glory!Lol!
Reese’s found the perfect recipe to make sure I stay ADDICTED.
Lately, I have been addited to M&M’s peanut butter. I am not a chocolate lover, but sometimes I find one that really clicks on me and then I can’t stop!
Yup.Like the Milky Way bars.I drive miles to a certain grocer for my fix becuase it is imported from the US and not everyone carries it here.Worth it though.Lol
An evil coworker recently introduced me to chocolate hummus. If you haven’t tried it, you’re probably thinking Hmm…NO. However, it’s actually really good.
M&M Peanut Butter! Bring it on!
YumYum
You smell great! My husband rocks MKK as well, I love it.
Well your hypusband smells AWESOME then, too.❤️????
Dunno what the what a hypusband is though…Lol!!
HUSBAND.????????♂️????
Oh boy you and I would reek havoc in an elevator together…..I am a lavish sprayer too!
Perfume Party in an elevator, sounds like fun!!Could be a perfect name for something as well!????????♂️????????♂️????
Or the name of a new Malle-LOL!!!
SotD = Eau des Merveilles
EdM ftw! I still smile when I think about Hollywood Squares . . . center square for the win, please, Peter!
ANYWAY, a three day weekend sounds superb. I have granted myself a holiday with the power of my mind. 😉 In reality Monday will be busy just like any other. Robin, I hope your 3 days are good to you.
CHOCOLATE, yes, please and thank you. Currently enjoying dark and milk chocolate covered almonds from Trader Joe’s. Delicious stuff, I eat just two or three pieces, they’re so good that is enough.
GRATEFUL for big and small things, especially perfume and NST, though air conditioning is #1 at the moment. And our family has a new-ish little parakeet. He arrived looking happy, but unbeknownst to us, with a latent case of mites and a respiratory infection. After several months of gentle ministrations and pharmacological intervention, he is in fine feather and starting to talk. So far he says “baby bird”, “sweet parakeet”, and “come here!”
MOVIE MADNESS abounds this summer. Have recently enjoyed eye candy in the form of The Greatest Showman (Hugh Jackman!) plus PotC Dead Men Tell No Tales (Javier Bardem + bonus Paul McCartney!), and finally got around to watching Ladybird then of course having a good cry at the ending. Sniff sniff sob.
Congratulations on your new birdie!
And I too am so very grateful for NST. The caring and concern for each other is really special. Thank you Robin for giving us this wonderful space to be together.
thanks, cazaubon, we are enjoying him. I never saw myself as a “bird person”, but somehow here we are. Oh, the surprising things we do for those we love, eh?
NST is a marvelous miracle every day. Kanuka’s penny from Dot made my eyes tear up and my heart skip a beat. I found a shiny new penny on the ground next to my car soon after my grandad died. It was an odd thing, and a comfort.
I hope that someday soon your tears are less, that for now there is a glimmer of the day when they will be fewer. Hugs to you.
The wonderful place, really, is all of you. I am just lucky all these nice people hung around, and all the mean people went somewhere else.
Thank you Tiffanie!
The good part isn’t actually until Tuesday — today I am doing laundry and packing, tomorrow I am in the car all day long. Tuesday I will post some things here, then I will be on a paddleboard in the lake, and then all is well 🙂
SOTD was CD Hypnotic Poison, because I’ve missed having chances to wear it, with our heat wave and all, and today just barely hit 70 degrees.
Has anyone else here ever gone to Levain Bakery in NYC? There’s a chocolate chip cookie worth falling in love with. Its a tourist trap but their stuff is genuinely good.
Oh yum, HP. You smell great.
I’ve been having a semi-staycation this week — semi because I had to spend several hours at my office on Monday and I worked for a few more on Tuesday from home, although I was supposed to have those as vacation days. But I’ve been enjoying my staycation and am getting lots of work done around the house and garden, with a big assist from my teenaged son! We also moved my second daughter’s stuff from our house into the apartment she will share at college this year, assembled her bed, etc., so it has been a productive week. Tomorrow will be closet day, which I am both dreading and anticipating, as I haven’t reorganized my closet IN YEARS. I will have to destroy it in order to save it.
SOTD was Mon Guerlain, from a store tester (again); not loving it. Sad, because the bottle is so cute; but good, because I don’t feel any need to buy it!
see my comment below 😉
Staycations are the best! Good luck with cleaning your closet!
melograno…..again…I am starting to wonder if I should even post my SOTD? Y’all already know it!
Yes, keep posting, there’s no rule that we have to wear something different every day. I love your posts!
Keep posting please! It reminds and encourages whoever is in the “finish bottles project” to keep going!
Do! It reminds us of The Mission.
Ok folks I will keep on posting!!! 🙂 and yes, STICK TO THE MISSION!
I said this elsewhere but will say it here as well…does anyone (besides me) see the irony in the fact that I could wear the same fragrance for days on end and yet change my gravatar picture almost as much as I change my underwear? What is that?
I really like your new avatar. It’s gorgeous.
Thank you….lately I am into mandalas and I found this one which really spoke to me (and my fickle mind!)
ha, yes, it is a wonderful thing to change one’s mind and avatar often.
Do keep posting THE MISSION. I’m toying with the idea of choosing ONE SotM to wear each morning this summer. It would be fun to see how many days I can keep a streak going. I know I would want to wear other scents during the afternoon and evening though.
DO IT!!!!! You can still sample and wear others throughout the day/evening if you feel inclined 😉
Thanks for the encouragement, this will be fun. 🙂 I think I’ll go with Terracotta Le Parfum in the morning. If it feels right I’ll try to wear it through the summer.
POST IT!!
I went AWOL with Aerin Iris Meadow today.Needed something cheerful on this dreary rainy SUPERCOLD day!
😉
I went AWOL yesterday and spent a lovely day in Lille. Just pottering around, no real sightseeing, but quietly enjoying the lovely old streets and the various shops. Got some nice teas or infusions from Palais des Thés. Their shop in Lille is really nice and it was very busy. They were actually serving tea in the street. I got Sorbet Gourmand, which is a green tea with tropical fruit. Sounds like a hot mess but it smells delicious and I got Jardin Suspendu with bergamot and other fruit and flowers. Palais des Thés is very good at these mixes without tea, and I love drinking them in summer.
I noticed that the Artisan Parfumeur shop had disappeared. I wonder what is happening there. No perfume yet today, but I’ll undoubtedly spray something before long.
Sounds like a lovely day. I also love infusions. Iced in summer, they are unsurpassable in hydration and deliciousness. David’s Tea, for those of us in the US & Canada, has a great selection and it’s also what they do best.
Your day sounds perfect. Whenever I think of summer in France I think of the sound made by Swallows…just seems to symbolise warmth somehow
We have swifts here–that sound and blackbird song on a long evening–encapsulates summer for me.
Oh yay, thanks for reporting on your PdT experience!
It is so odd to me, the seesaw between Diptyque and L’Artisan. It just shows how important brand management is — it is not all just about the juice.
It made me sad actually to see that closed shop. It used to be such a great brand, and they are one of the pioneers of niche. But you are right, brand management is important. Do you know what is happening at Goutal?
Palais des Thés was fun; the SA who helped me excused himself for his sniffling, he was suffering from hay fever. I hadn’t even noticed, probably due to my own sniffling 🙂 And the infusions they do are just wonderful, especially when it’s hot. I make them both hot and cold.
Goutal is reorganizing, but you probably mean something beyond that?
As of today, we’ve been in our new apartment for a week. My perfumes are still in boxes, though the boxes are opened and each day I’ve been digging around to see what I can find. My bottles that have their own boxes are easiest to get to, as there’s no additional packaging to undo. I came up with a pretty genius idea for packing smaller bottles without boxes, putting them into tea (and other) tins, then sliding in decants to fill the empty space around them. The bubble-wrapped ones I just don’t have the energy to deal with.
Anyhoo, this morning I opened a tin and got a big waft of Poison, so that is what I am wearing.
Unpacking has been very slow going. Eventually our apartment will be a nice space, but when we arrived with our boxes and furniture, we walked into complete and utter filth. The previous tenants were 2 bachelors and a dog who spent nary a moment cleaning in the 2 years they lived here. Someone came out and did additional cleaning, but we’re still having to scour every surface in each room before moving into it.
We’re also modifying each space before unpacking, as one does, which is time-consuming. Today (hopefully!) my bathroom storage will be built-out. Friday my shower caddy went up, and yesterday the shower curtain, so my bathroom is *this close* to being functional 😉
I’ve also somehow adjusted to, like, London’s time zone instead of Ohio’s. I’m regularly waking up at a time that begins with 5 and cannot stay awake past 9 or 10. Having never been a morning person ever in my life, this is all rather bewildering. But fine, I suppose, to fall asleep and wake up with my H rather than 4 hours behind him.
Midwest mornings are glorious in the summer. I love being up early, the temperature is perfect, and it’s quiet.
Unpacking and settling in is always a challenge. But your new space will soon feel like “yours”, and you have the freedom to shape it to suit you. I’m sorry it’s gross and dirty though, but this is a fleeting period.
Poison? You smell marvelous!
I’ve been a morning person my whole life. I love the optimistic aura of dawn. Welcome to the early-bird club!
I am a morning person too. My day usually starts between 4 and 5 and ends about 8. I love the sounds and smell of dawn, and the way light edges out darkness.
It beats seeing the other side of it. I’ve gone through phases where I can’t fall asleep before 2 or 3, and that is not at all pleasant.
I’ve been reading a bit about how waking up early is healthier than sleeping in, so perhaps this shift in circadian rhythm is a good thing. 🙂
How early are we talking? I’m generally more of a 6:30-7:30 riser…
A lot of this can probably be chalked up to perimenopause, too. Yay.
It’s not so much that there is a set time that is of great benefit, but that moving from late riser to early bird seems to coincide with lower stress levels and higher productivity.
Ah, well having gone from one to the other a few years ago, I can attest to that. 5 a.m. is new territory for me, though.
I was more worried that my husband would adjust to eastern while I’d still be on pacific. I’d much rather be up at 5 along with him.
Happy Sunday everyone! I’m joining the Use It Up effort, focusing on Ornge Sanguine. I seem to have accumulated multiple samples, dabbers and travel sprays over the years, so I will be enjoying them this week.
So I don’t get distracted from the quest, I’ll be layering OS with:
Vanille Insensee (obviously)
St. Julep
Assam of India
4711
Clementine California
AA Pamplelune
AA Herba Fresca
Any other suggestions for layering?
OOO I love all of your layering ideas!! I like OS layered with anything sweet or creamy or even woody….I should try it layered with Assam….that is a good idea you came up with 🙂
Hmm, I thought about layering Organza Indecence with it, disregarded the thought, but I think you’re right! Sweet/creamy/woody would be great with OS. Thanks for helping me go with my first hunch!
yup! I think that would work 🙂
Shalimar! A felloe traveller wore it the other day while I wore Orange Sanguine. We smelled fabulous together!
Aaaand Shalimar goes on the list, thanks! ????
Today I am wearing Munchen, by Frau Tonis Parfum. Frau Tonis is a Berlin based perfume company located right beside Checkpoint Charlie. It was a bit surreal visiting yesterday. I bought a set of 3 travel sprays – Linde Berlin, Munchen and Fiege (fig). I probably would have done a lot more shopping there if they had spray testers instead of only the lids of decanters to sniff.
This vacation has been wonderful so far – it’s just reaffirmed how much I love spending time with my husband, exploring new places, and eating everything I don’t recognize. My favorite chocolate food of the trip has been the chocolate croissants filled with Nutella. Yummmmmers!
I hope everyone has found some peace and joy today, if even for just a moment.
Glad you are having such a good time and discovering new perfumers too
If you’re still in Berlin, a very nice perfume shop is the different scent in Krausnick Strasser Not far from hackescher Markt. I think he carries 800 different niche scents…
Nutella croissants! (The whole trip sounds wonderful and I suppose it is sad that my focus went there, but it is the one part that I could replicate maybe. Enjoy the rest of your trip!)
Happy Sunday, all! I am sampling Biblioteca de Babel for the first time. The opening is very sweet, but I don’t mind it the way I generally do, so I am happily sniffing and waiting for it to evolve. I failed to make the elaborate brunch I planned for today and am lounging in my second day of staycation, listening to NPR and dulsatorily thinking about the little project management app I am developing. But that was sort of work related and so I came to NST… 🙂
And is it Biblioteca-ish?
Enjoy the rest of your lounge day!
Finally managed to get back to yoga class today. Spent a long time in pigeon pose working through my emotions. I’m wearing TF Musk Pure.
Thinking of you Cazaubon. I am sure yoga classes will help some on this tough time. You smell great!
Sending you good thoughts and hugs. Allow yourself the time you need to process your emotions.
It took me several weeks to even be able to talk about the passing of a beloved pet to my friends.
This. I couldn’t even look at another cat for a couple of months after my much loved Jinx Kitty had to be euthanized. And for as long as I can remember, I have always loved cats.
Hey peeps, I sprayed and sprayed and eked out every last drop of Orange Sanguine and….all done. That thunk from the garbage can was music to my ears!
????
😉
????????????
Full disclosure, it was a 4mL non-refillable travel spray. At lunch, I had a taste of SoCo Dirty Chocolate ice cream – yum!
That counts!
Congrats on a successfull Finish it up!,????????????????
Thank you! Big or small, I will count them!
Awesome! I’ll be working on my OS stash this week.
Sunday, Sunday, Sunday–laundry and packing for a brief girls road trip with my sister to the Berkshires (will we see you there, Hajusuuri?!)
I like the idea of finishing up some samples and decants, so that’s what I am going to pack–only those with a few sprays left. Let’s see what turns up!
Welcome to the “finish bottles, decants, samples club”!
After this afternoon’s show, we will be heading back to NJ. Have fun on your trip!
My neighbors car alarm went off every half hour last night from 1 am till 9am, when I left for work. My whole street is pretty quiet and friendly, except for these people, ugh… I’m very tired. My plan was to use up my Orange Sanguine sample today, but I was to tired to dab, lol, so I’m spraying No.5 L’eau today. I will finish OS tonight after a shower.
Oh dear god I feel for you. I’m surprised that car made it through the night with its windows intact and bumpers on…
Right? But like I said, it’s a pretty quiet place, most everyone else is respectful.
Oh Lord.
When I was in college, my best friend lived in a 5-person dorm suite with a common living area and bathroom but separate bedrooms. The bedrooms each had individual keys. One of the roommates was an architecture-school student, and during weeks when a project was due, pretty much lived at the A-school 24/7, working on his project. Slept on the floor there often. Trouble was, he would usually forget to turn his alarm off, so at 6 a.m. when his alarm was blaring and nobody could get into his room to turn it off, his roommates were ready to scalp him…
Oh man! That is the worst!
Oh my goodness, that is just awful! You are smelling amazing with the No. 5.
If this is a regular occurrence can you contact your your local city authorities for them breaking noise by-laws?
If it happens tonight, I think the whole street will call, but this is the first time we’ve had this particular problem with them. I can’t believe he just didn’t disable it after like the 5th time.
Fresh Cream and Sunshine ( perfumes ). Feeling glad to be alive ! It’s winter school holidays here and I am going away with my son and dogs on a road trip to Central Otago ( to my brother’s) . He chooses music so it will be rap, rap and more rap …and Radiohead.
Enjoy the road trip! It’s pretty nice of you to let your son pick the music. I now understand why my mother never let me do that????
oh, do enjoy your holiday,
let us know how it goes?
Any time I’m reminded of Radiohead my brain instantly echoes with
“When you were here before
Couldn’t look you in the eye”
😉
It’s a lovely warm day so I needed something fresh and a no-brainer. I found my BBW lemon vanilla body spray and lotion buried in my closet, so I applied lavishly in an attempt to join you all in ‘use it up’.
We walked to our nearby grocery store, so I must have been heated up by the time we got there. An older gentleman who works at the store jokingly said to my hubby “is that you big fella who smells so good?” My hubs said “no, it’s probably her”. Then we all laughed. Even BBW can get a compliment now and then.
BBW can indeed get compliments…Brown Sugar and Fig is the one I love and often get complimented on…and YAY for team “Use It Up” 🙂
BBW is pretty pleasant, I enjoy the lotions and shower gels alot. I resisted this past semi annual sale, because I want to use up what I have. I think I only have 4 body creams left.
Remember to post your Monday SOTD’s here tomorrow!!Let’s show Robin she can rest a bit but the SHOW WILL GO ON!Hehe!!Happy Sunday Eve everyone! It is 22:44pm,bedtime for this boy.LASHINGS of Aerin Iris Meadow to lull me to sleep…
X
I will be around for sure! And I just finished my sample of Orange Sanguine! I like it a lot, but I realized I don’t wear colognes very much, because I really enjoy smelling perfumey, if that makes sense?
I got my wonderful package from CanadaBuy yesterday with beautiful MFK APOM in it, and that’s my SOTD!
Thanks to the kind person who enabled this by posting that they had some bargains! I’m sorry, I’ve forgotten who it was.
It came quite quickly, too!
That was quick! I think that PSA was around the 4th. Congratulations on your new bottle.
A slightly fuzzy-brained post-migraine day, when writing came slowly and awkwardly (but I was able to select some good illustrations, at least, for the talk I have to give on my research). And I was endlessly entertained by Atkins. This small cat plays like no other cat I’ve ever met–hours at a time, and with the strangest things. Her current favourite is a hard rubber bouncy ball, which she likes to rocket off different surfaces, when she’s not leaping in the air to play goalie with scrunched up paper. Herschel, who is older, and far more sensible, occasionally wanders over to whap her with a fuzzy paw when the songs of triumph get too loud. (thinking of cat antics… I was thinking about waterdragon and her tales of Eric and the Stripies. Any word?)
Started my day with lashings of vintage Diorama EdC. Some hours later decided it had turned surprisingly skanky, then got paranoid that *I* had turned surprisingly skanky… so post shower went for the bracing fresh river greens and lily of Fathom V, and wrote a potentially good outline for this talk. Hmm. Maybe.
(so, contrary to Team Consistency, I’m rocking two different scents a day…)
But you are rocking with lashings which counts toward the mission of “finish the bottle” 🙂 even if it is two or three or four different scents!
I’ve turned surprisingly skanky myself at times lol ????. I’m sure you smelled wonderful!
I loved hearing about Atkins and Herschel. I hope you are feeling 100% better now!
My favorite chocolate-noted scent is Gourmand Coquin. At least to me, it is boozy chocolate.
The cookies from yesterday sound wonderful, especially since I’m an oatmeal cookie kind of gal.
But in honor of chocolate, I made a point of getting and eating a LOOK bar. Have I mentioned how much I love them??
I’m not familiar with LOOK bars, what are they? I just ate a 3 musketeers, yum!
Do you know Big Hunk nougat bars? They’re basically those but covered in dark chocolate. Thin nougat covered in dark chocolate. Chewy. Hard to find. But they have them here in CVS drugstores. Don’t have them where I live. I ate them as a kid.
I don’t know that one either! But it sounds good, I prefer dark chocolate candy bars, but they are hard to find, unless you get the pricier ones. I really like the dark chocolate kit Kats.
The dark chocolate Milky Ways are pretty good!
Any KitKat is a good KitKat!!So fun knowing we sometimes have the same candy -and eat it regularly-worlds apart!!????✌????
I get chocolate from Gourmand Coquin, too (and IIRC, you’re the one who introduced me to it – thank you!) I get white chocolate and smoky tea, but chocolate nonetheless.
SOTD is Coco Mlle Intense, which I am hoping my hubby likes better than the original. I enjoy the original from time to time, but he decidedly did not. Yesterday was BBW Sensual Amber EDT, which is one that I only recently embraced after using up the body wash. Got it and Wild Honeysuckle EDT at 50% off at the semi-annual sale. And that pretty much is my damage report, which I missed on Thursday. It’s hard for me to use things up because I work in a scent-free office and usually don’t do more than 2 sprays even at home. But I have a couple of things that I will finish soon and move on to the backup bottles. The well never runs dry!
Oh, and in good chocolate news, Aldi has a chocolate chip cookie/brownie mix that is wonderful and you make it with a whole lotta buttah!
Melograno…last night when I wore it middle Marzipan remarked that I smell good….there’s a good chance she might use it as well….so the bottle might be finished quicker than I thought !
I sprayed my daughter with my sotd this morning, on her way out the door ????
😉 Did she like it?
She didn’t say, but I know when she sneaks sprays of Mugler, it’s always Alien essence absolue. Sometimes I ask her why she picks the perfumes she does. So far though she is unable to tell me.
Maybe she is influenced by the bottles?
So I went to Sephora this afternoon and tested the new Nest Cocoa Sandalwood, Dark Tulip and the Eau de Mervielles Bleue…all nice but I don’t need em!!! Yay!!!
that would be “Cocoa Woods”
I need to revisit Melograno, but I’ll wait till Spring! You smelled wonderful this past week!✌????
thank you, love 🙂
What would your next bottle be, if the middle Marzipan grabs the Melograno?
I am thinking Montale Soleil de Capri (not sure if I am spelling that one right) because it reminds me a lot of Light Blue and has a real summery vibe…also, the bottle is opaque so I am not sure there is even that much juice left in it which means I can probably finish it 🙂
Hi everyone! I have the day off today, and hopefully will get some cleaning done. Also, want to look into maybe getting a second job, or better full time one. I’m combining the cp wear an aquatic fragrance with the Use it up mission and wearing Alien Aqua Chic. My least loved Mugler. I get a lot of salt from this one. I don’t think I have anything else that would be considered aquatic. It’s never been a catogory that I was drawn to, although the ads for Cool Water were tempting enough for me to keep trying it for awhile. It just never suited me.
I hope your neighbor fixed his car alarm and you got a great sleep!
It’s been quiet since that night, thank goodness.
Glad to hear that you didn’t have any more issues with that one person’s car alarm. I hate those!!
Do you get any other notes besides salt from the Alien Aqua Chic?
It smells like a light version of the original Alien, I get the jasmine, but not any grape kool aid smell. I enjoy it until the drydown when I get the mosr salt. Salt is probably not even in the notes, but that’s what I smell. It could be amber, I’m not sure.
Day 3 of staycation. Slept in until 7:15! Total luxury since I generally get up with the rooster- Mr. Silkie current king of the flock starts crowing an hour before the sun cones up. SOTD is end of Fiori de Capri EDT fortified with a dash of the new bottle EDP.
I worked on my app a little. Guess it is a hobby. Turkey and veggies fritatta for breakfast, spiced up with spoonful of kim chi as a condiment. Next tackling the mudroom. When I have had enough, a nice shower, then off to a pedicure…
Sounds like a very fun day !!
And its a vacation so I can stop what I am doing and take a nap at any time! Unscheduled free time is the truest form of luxury. Well, unscheduled free time and unlimited hot running water is the truest form of luxury – everything else is gravy.
I’ll second your words. Perfectly, simply true.
Your frittata and kimchi sounds so delicious. Enjoy the pedi.
Nibbling on a KitKat in honour of Chocolate Day, and wearing Clinique Wrappings for the oakmoss vibe.
Perfect all around!
Smelling great.
Yum yum yum to everything…..Wrappings is so so good! I wore it when it first came out in the 1990s.
Haha, me too! I remember that one was love at first spritz! 🙂
Joining the GitRDone Gang today in Vanilla Smoke. Used up the last of the sample this morning, which makes me both sad and happy.
Best and happiest of Mondays to everyone!
Be happy with finishing something…more room for new loves 🙂
Yes, it actually is a good feeling to use up something. I think a bunch of us are benefiting from all the encouragement here to just go ahead and do it!
California Rêverie today! This one makes me so happy????
I recently got the Aedes de Venustas travel set (Aedes sig scent) at a fantastic discount. I’m keeping one and would like to split the other two 10ml travel atomizers. $20 + shipping for each. CONUS only. If interested, my email:

I am back in Chamade today for the 3rd day in a row. I have a decant to finish. It’s so pretty but not me. Although now, on day 3, I seem to be liking it more than previously.
After I finish off some of these samples and decants, I want to explore the rest of the CdG Insense Series (as I mentioned the other day) and also some of the Zoologist that seem so interesting to me.
Ha! That’s what I always say…when I wear something beyond the two day mark it somehow changes for me….
Oh Chamade is a class act.LoveLOVE
Maybe Chamade is a fall or spring scent for you?
Back to work and very busy.
I could easily do a whole month of perfumes that evoke the sea, since it is my favorite summer category. However, I am still in the “Use it Up” project and I just finished a small decant of Fragonard Vrai. It will not be replaced and as Hajusuuri said yesterday: “That thunk from the garbage can was music to my ears!”
????
I needed end a day to recover from vacation so had planned on a day off today – yay! Back to work tomorrow though but the week will feel short so there’s that!
Enjoy your last day off. I made the huge mistake to leave my whole cleaning and cooking for yesterday and today I am tired and sleepy. But I cannot complain about my comforting and relaxing 5 days off.
Not too long ago I was exploring the Fragonard offerings ( I think I was on beautyhabit) and I saw Vrai…which intrigued me because of the name and also the great price. Did you like it? It’s a clean citrus, right?
Yes, it is a clean citrus. The opening is lemony and it stays like that for a couple of minutes. The drydown is herbal. I got mostly thyme. I sprayed the whole 4ml decant on me. It becomes a skin scent in a matter of 1 hour and after 2 hours is gone. I had 2 sprays on my blouse, so I can still smell it very lighly. I cannot say I dislike it, but I did not find it interesting, not even as a no-brainer.
thank you for that…lemming squashed !!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry I killed it for you! ????????
oh no I am so so so grateful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ha!!!! I love that (what hajusuuru said)!
😀
Hello all, and happy Chocolate day! My SOTD is Eau de Patou by Patou (vintage). Wafting citrus and patchouli/oakmoss. Boy this has always been one of my favorites.
I just happen to have a fresh bar of chocolate – my latest favorite is Guittard’s 64% Cacao L’ Harmonie, it’s just bitter and sweet enough to satisfy my cravings without being too naughty. 🙂
My hubby made a huge batch of chocolate chip cookies yesterday, I brought some to work in an attempt to mitigate the damage to my waistline… I’m sure the coworkers will appreciate it!
I love it when people bring in homemade cookies! It’s always appeciated!
I do it for my nurses at UCSF all the time, also make healthy granola/nut bars for those who want a healthier option. I figure they run their tails off and work long hours, it’s nice to show some appreciation!
And boy did my house smell great this morning when I woke up, like butter, chocolate and vanilla! YUM!
My mom worked in NICU, and they often didn’t get a break at all over a 12-hour shift. I know your nurses greatly appreciate any snacks that can be grabbed as they go about their day! ????
My nurses take such great care of me, I want them to enjoy a goodie. My coconut macaroons are the favorite (from what I hear).. 🙂
Hooray for UCSF! My brother went to med school there…one of the best med schools and relatively cheap!
hajusuuri: UCSF is really a great school (although living in SF costs an arm and a leg); I am very fortunate that my health insurance allows me to go there for treatment. 🙂
That is so lovely of you!!! A delicious grab and go is always appreciated!
I didn’t check in this weekend, but I smelled great the whole time. Saturday I wore Au Dela original version pre-shower and PG Cuir d’Iris post shower. I still smelled like CdI Sunday morning, so I finished off my spray sample. I only have one 2ml spray sample of it left, and I keep desperately hoping a bottle or decant pops up on eBay. Last night when CdI had mostly worn off, I put PG Arabian Horse on to compare the two. They are quite similar, but there is just something about CdI that is better to me.
Today I’m trying to finish my sample of Botega Veneta Eau de Velours. I brought the sample with me, so I can respray right when I leave work and hope you finish it off then.
What do you think about the BV Eau de Velours?
I think it’s really nice but not special enough for me to need a bottle. And a mini pro all wouldn’t work because you really need to spray this one.
I’m countering the horror of Monday morning with OJ Woman … so far, it’s working. 🙂
You are wafting beautifully in OJ Woman despite the day!
Oh, those cookies look SO good.
Trying today Cocoa Woods by Nest. Nice opening cocoa note, but disappears far too fast. The whole thing is gone in 30 minutes 🙁
Another spectacular day in NYC!
I had the same experience. The opening is fantastic! Then literally nothing. I think it would work quite well as a shower gel. I will give it another shot in the fall though.
Scent twin!!!
I found an old bottle of CSP Vanille Citrus and sprayed some on for today’s hot temperatures. I forgot how sweet this one is. I don’t mind that, though, and it’s nice to smell something I haven’t worn in a while.
Always nice to catch up with an old friend…
I’ve been eying MDCI’s 5×12 ml ‘sample’ set. I really would like to try Peche Cardinale, and Chypre Palatin (had a sample of this and would love to have more). After that, I’m not sure which of the others to try as I haven’t tried or heard much about them. If anyone has other favorites, I’d love to hear about them.
This morning I’m trying Arz el-Rab. I don’t know what it means but like the name, and love the cute little boxes for the Berdoues sample set but this one is not working on me.
Rise de Siena is a good one to include in the set to try.
Omg – that was truly a fat finger spellcheck nightmare! I meant Rose de Siwa.
Lol! Rise de Siena sounds like a perfume name. It fooled me!
Ha! Me too 🙂
I did a double-take when I read my comment ????
I second Rose de Siwa and will add Fetes Persanes.
I was about to google that!!????????
Spellcheck strikes again!
Today I am wafting Iris Prima, courtesy of the generous spritzes of the SA at the KaDeWe department store in Berlin. It is gorgeous, but I need to put it on the waiting list because I have a lot of perfume!
I went to the le labo store intending to buy Iris 39, but ended up falling in love with Lys 41 and buying it instead. So all vacation shopping is done, and I am going to start an extreme slow-buy if not no-buy.
I had a chance to spritz the new 100 ml Serge Lutens bottles – they are really big! My hands aren’t tiny (I don’t think) but it was a really awkward maneuver.
Love to you all. You are beautiful souls and fragrant as heck!
And you still have Duty-Free to go through!
It’s nice you were able to get the one you fell in love with. It will be a great vacation scent reminder.
You smell awesome!Great buy!!I never “got” Iris39,compared to other Iris-perfumes I have it is kinda bland.Don’t hate me!,I know it has a lot of fans!????????♂️✌????????
I thought it was a little average too. I wore it in the heat recently and it bloomed beautifully.
I’d be interesting in hearing what your scented tally is once your vacation shopping is done.
Orange Sanguine layered with Assam of India.
Layering score: 5 of 5. ????
Genius combo, I must try that soon. 😉
OOOO! We have both bottles of those floating around the house…I will have to steal a few spritzes and give that layering a try…
I’ll have to try that!
Hmmmm, I have spray samples of both of those.
SOTD = Hermes Eau de Citron Noir
From a sample. Sadly, I will not finish my sample but someone else will as it will be included in a freebie. The first two sprays did not register at all, as if I was spritzing water. The 3rd spray was too much. It was bitter and screechy and not for me.
I don’t have many aquatic fragrances so will need to think harder to participate…or maybe I’ll just wear Eau de Merveilles Bleue everyday for the rest of the week!
I couldn’t wear EdC Noir either. It didn’t smell nice on me. Oh well, more for someone else.
Hurray for EdM Bleue! That azure bottle makes my heart go pitter-patter.
When I was at the Hermes boutique last week, I told the SA that whenever a perfume is packaged in a green EdM bottle, I will buy one regardless of what the juice smells like.
hey, I was actually participating in the CP in my testing of EdM Bleue in Sephoras-LOL!
What did you think of it?
it was pleasant and I liked it but I don’t need it in my life
I know to test that one cautiously now, after your experience! Thanks for the heads-up.

SotM = Terracotta Le Parfum
A la cm8, Team Consistency, and the Use It Up Crew, I’m starting a summer scent streak. Currently auditioning Terracotta for the leading role. If it’s a winner today, I’ll wear it again tomorrow, rinse and repeat for some number of days. Last time I tried wearing Hiris daily I managed about a week. Heart is loyal, nose is fickle.
I’m motivated to use and enjoy this bottle of Terracotta, will use at least 4 sprays a day, more than the usual two. I put a piece of tape on the bottle to show the current level of the perfume. Hope to see it go down. I conveniently forgot, ahem, that I have a second bottle of Terracotta. How do these things happen? I have no other back-up bottles though. Points for restraint, please? 😀
Have a marvelous Monday, perfume people. You smell fabulous.
yay!!! with a backup bottle you won’t feel so bad about finishing it!!! yup, you get points for ONLY one back up bottle-LOL!
ha, thanks for the points! Terracotta was a winner today, looking forward to tomorrow, day 2!
Smelling oh so summer-y and pretty today!
thanks, Jalapeno! Guerlain does know how to do pretty, imho 🙂
I made it through Monday!Blisteringly cold evening here.21:28pm.Under the covers.I’m thiiiiiiiis close to finishing Valentino Uomo(50ml).A co-worker today said “dang!,That perfume!!”It was appreciated at work at least.I like it,but it never was love.
Chocolate currently on my nightstand is a whole-cherry-drenched in cherry liquer-covered with dark chocolate-affair from a local artisan.SOOOO GOOD.and my bedtime treat.
Happy Week everyone!

Sitting in my bed, eating my cherry-thingy,it just struck me again how much I enjoy visiting Now Smell This.Robin should be proud of this forum of friends from everywhere.

Waving Hi! and jealous of your cherry liquor chocolate. Enjoy it! ???????????? ????
That sounds freaking delicious and love you back!
OOO Pass me some chocolate 🙂
You could start a lemming for that chocolate, johanob! Yum!
We had a nice weekend at the Jersey Shore with some friends and had a cookout at the campgrounds. Very fearless raccoons around there-one came up to the table and grabbed a friend’s cell phone and managed to snatch a sausage out of my husband bun!
Anyway, I wore Copal Azur over the weekend and nearly finished that sample.
Today is beautifully sunny with low humidity so I went with SL Sa Majeste la Rose which smells like a fresh, dewy rose garden.
OMG, did your friend get her cell phone back?!?
He did, lol. It was pretty hilarious, though.
That is so funny. I’ve had a similar experience with racccoons once. They are fearless. ????
I think they’re pretty cute!
Yes, they look like bandits!
Using up the last drops of my Prada Infusion d’Amande; I will miss it.
Those of you who’ve tried Nest Cocoa Woods- in your opinion, what was the most prominent note after the cocoa?
Not sure…it faded SOOOO fast!!! all I got was the cocoa 🙁
You smell delightful! I need a bottle of that Infusion. My mini is almost dry. Which reminds me that I need to find my vetiver Infusion…
For me it was ambroxan or something similar. It did fade quickly.
And two more today, over at Team Fickle: the interest and beauty of Naja to help prevent the foot draggingness of a very mondayish monday, and, this evening, post gym, finally trying the sample of Iris Poudre I got in Paris.
I just tried Naja sprayed last week and I think a bottle needs to join the family.
Oh, yay! I think Naja is a marvel. I’ve been enjoying each drop of the 10ml decant I got my paws on, and I now can’t imagine not having it to wear. So this will transform into a bottle before I run out.
Hello NST! Yes, it’s a Monday, but it is a beautiful summer day where I am at. Loads of sunshine and the perfect amount of humidity in the air. I am SO enjoying it while it lasts, and so are the cats! Right now, 2 of them are hanging out in one of the bay windows, soaking up every bit of solar energy they can.
I had some great things happen over the weekend, and I wanted to share them here. First, the sunset last Friday evening was one of the most beautiful ones I have ever seen. Fiery reds, magenta, fuchsia… the whole horizon was glowing. Absolutely stunning.
More excitement from the natural world: fireflies are back in my neighborhood this summer!! I hadn’t seen them for the past 2 years. No idea why. But they showed up this past weekend.
SOTD = Dame Passionfruit, Orange Blossom & Vetiver EdT from the sample stash, and a generous NSTer. I’m going to try and use it up this week, so count me in on the Use It Up crew!
Ahh a stunning sunset is hard to beat in the awe-inspiring category. I’ve seen fireflies, too, which is extra exciting to me since they don’t exist in my old stomping grounds. Some flew really close to me and I was surprised to find they flashed green close-up.
If you have a green LED keychain, you can sometimes get them to fly up to you by flashing it. That’s always fun.
Yay! another recruit-LOL!
love fireflies- they are always in my yard….and sunrises and sunsets can move me to tears….
I did not ever see fireflies until I moved to the East Coast. There is something magical about them to me.
Me, too. I thought they were just mythical creatures growing up.
What a joy sunsets can be…some just build and build in beauty that just make you hold your breath.
Sunset Twins!!! I went out for a walk last Friday evening and admired the same magical sunset that you described. I stayed outside for a long time, reluctant to miss a single bit of it.
And so glad the fireflies came back to your neighborhood! Just wouldn’t feel like summer without them.
Wasn’t that just so relaxing to watch??
Yay for beautiful sunsets and bugs!
For sure! I forgot to mention that the cicadas started singing this past week. Summer is well and truly here!
I’m glad the fireflies are back! I was sad when you said that they hadn’t been around for awhile.
I was getting pretty bummed out, too. I saw them again earlier tonight, so I’ll be looking for them for the rest of this week.
Unpacked my perfumes yesterday and put out a little summer selection. I chose Kelly Caleche edp this morning, though it’s long gone now.
My June scentbird pick, TF Grey Vetiver, which I chose for my husband just arrived. I couldn’t resist a little spritz. I really like this stuff – sporty, spicy, summery, with a light background hum of vetiver (the notes say it includes grapefruit and nutmeg, which I’ll buy off on.) I’m not always a Tom Ford fan but this is surprisingly subtle and while not my own style I’m really looking forward to smelling it on my H.
Grey Vetiver is awfully good, isn’t it? Someone here recently said that TF might discontinue it? Grrr…
I like that one a lot, too! But the edt is by far my fave; the edp is a little masculine on me.
Ugh on the possible discontinuation. I need no more lemmings to jump out of the bushes at me. ????
I really like Grey Vetiver. My guy didn’t care for it, so I stole it. 😉
Seville a L’Aube for me today. More bank and paperwork errands as documents are finalized and need to be returned. I should have paid closer attention before he passed away on how he handled IRA beneficiaries. Has complicated matters, but I’m still thankful at how generally organized he was. But the IRA thing is not as easy as I’d like.
Gonna be in high 90s here all week. It doesn’t really bother me, since it’s so dry. But, boy, it is bright. Planning to see Jurassic World tomorrow and intend to giggle all the way through.
I haven’t worn Seville in a while. You smell Fab! Enjoy the movie!
Wearing Tokyo Milk Dark Bulletproof today.I keep forgetting how much I like it when I remember to wear it.
I am working on finding a cooler place to store my fragrance collection since it will be heating up here in a few days.I would like to have a better system for organizing sample sizes and small bottles so I’ve been reading all the great ideas that people post here.Wishing everyone a good week.
Basements work well for summer storage, if you have access to one.
You smell great in Bulletproof. A very kind NSTer generously swapped a bottle of that one to me not long after I joined this fabulous throng. ????
Glad you found it! What a great group of people.
Nothing noteworthy to report today. SOTD is No. 19. It was really perfect for a Monday.
Hey, a nothing noteworthy day is a great day!
Very true lillyjo!
very true!!
No.19 is truly perfect for a Monday!
Nothing noteworthy is as perfect as No. 19!
Yay for having a not-Manic Monday!
Late to the poll! But for my sotd I’m wearing the cacao/tuberose froth that is Perris Monte Carlo Cacao Azteque. I may have become anosmic because this wears lightly on me. Have not had any complaints as far as sillage so that’s a good sign. It’s a great modern fragrance that starts with spices, an earthy tuberose/white floral mix, with a base of something I like to describe as dark chocolate/cacao froth. All of it is done in the modern style, very transparent yet it has a personality. I imagine going through a bottle fast.
This sounds really good. I will need to make sure I try this at Bergdorfs the next time I’m there.
Wearing a few sprays of Orris Tattoo and ISM to compare. The OT has faded a bit but ISM is still pretty strong.
I’m watching American Ninja Warrior and I tell you, these people are amazing and inspiring. It still hasn’t made me give up chocolate though as I managed to scarf down some dark chocolate squares during the show.
Wow, it’s been ages since I’ve watched Ninja Warrior.
If it’s been awhile for I’m not sure if you’ve seen Megan Martin or Jesse Graf. Both are fierce, strong women.
