Oriza L. Legrand Secret Joly ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 5 June 2018 37 Comments

Niche line Oriza L. Legrand has launched Secret Joly, a new fragrance.

SECRET JOLY is a wild and sensual fragrance, unremittingly carnal and completely mysterious.

With the precious elixir of Jasmine Sambac at its heart, SECRET JOLY reveals warm husky notes with accents of honey and delicate spices.

The top notes are of Jasmine, with a sprinkling of fresh hyacinth.

The middle notes are a subtle bouquet of Ylang-Ylang, Gardenia, Carnal Flower and Jasmine Sambac.

The base notes are a sensual combination of Chives,* melted honey, wrinkled Tobacco Leaves, Tonkinese Musk and Balsam from Peru.

Oriza L. Legrand Secret Joly is available in 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

(via orizaparfums)

* Note that the French version says civette, which would not be chives in English.

Wowzers! This sounds huge! I would like to try it out just to see if it killed me or cured me. Yeah, a bit of a difference between chives and civitte. ????

Some people might prefer the chives 😉

This sounds wonderful, but could be too much. Still, lovely bottle with a tassel!
They probably used Google translate or some such. A shame.

AF: Google Translate gets civet just fine…but I’m curious what the name MEANS. Why is it written “JOL”Y on the packaging? Am I missing something obvious? Anyway…will give it a sniff. And, hey, they could have honestly stated, if it were true, that “this is the first time chives have been used in a fragrance….”

If it is obvious, I am missing it too! I was wondering if it was some variation on jolie, but really I have no idea.

Yeah, I wondered too, but thought it must be above my meager intellect. So I went to Wikipedia ????

Which states this as one definition of “jol” –

“An occasion of celebration and enjoyment; a good time.”

So could it be a secret good time, ie: an illicit liaison? That would fit the whole perfume ethos; both the notes and perfume as a whole being classified by some as a sexual lure? See, told you I had a very meager intellect. ????

          I like your interpretation Deva!

I don’t even know what JOLY means, Let alone with haphazard apostrophes

I am clueless as to why it’s written that way too. Maybe the answer is in the box? So, you can buy the bottle, host a split, and find out the answer all at once! Just a suggestion ????

Deva I think you’ve guessed perfectly! That makes the most sense.
Or perhaps some contraction of ‘Jolie’ – jol… ie=Y phonetically?? Is sounds like a “pretty” composition!!

I never even checked Google translate to be honest. Shame on me.

I can’t figure out the Joly at all. The word is ‘joli(e)’ depending on whether it’s a noun, an adjective or an adverb. but never with y. And Jol is not mentioned in my dictionary.
That aside: I’m kind of dying to try this. I love this house and I would love another of those tassels!

I thought it might be the “y” as in “here” (“il y est,” “j’y vais”). There’s joy here? Maybe I was stretching.

Maybe, but in French that would be joli(e) ici. Not y. I’m almost ready to send the owners of Oriza an email and beg for an explanation 😉

        • Koyel says:
          6 June 2018 at 5:21 pm

Oh no, you’ve misunderstood me. I’m saying they’ve made it a pun and used the apostrophe to dispense with the i (there would never be an e anyway, because it’s le secret).

I very much enjoyed the Graham Norton link 🙂

I’m delighted that it says “chives.” The last time I was in Paris, we went to a creperie with French and English descriptions. One of the crepes had an ingredient written as “squeegee” in English. It took me a moment to realize that the issue was that they had translated the French word “raclette” using Google Translate. Raclette is a cheese, but it is also a squeegee. I can see how someone who doesn’t know what a squeegee is might assume that’s the name of a cheese in English. We had a good laugh about it with the waiter, who assured me I would not be getting a squeegee in my crepe.

Or you can host a split AND keep the packaging and the bootle! If you are splitting, I am pre-reserving a portion (however way you’re splitting it up to 25 mLs).

It’s super easy with this one…I think my first split was Eau de Crypt from this line! Anyway, it’s a screw top bottle so you just need to have a funnel if you’re confident about volumes / size of atomizers or use a pipette to measure.

Yes, you are correct about the screw top! I have a FB of Eau de Crypt and EVERYTHING about this brand is the BOMB! The packaging, the scent, the quality, the longevity…ad infinitum!! I’m SO intrigued!

This sounds so intriguing, starting with the mysterious name, but my heart belongs to Oriza Legrand’s ‘Muguet Fleuri’, which I dearly love and wrote about last month! The honey note sounds really interesting, although I’m not usually into very sweet notes. Speaking of honey notes, though, I recently bought DKNY Nectar Love and wow! The honey note is so clear in that, it is as if one put a large spoonful of clover blossom honey up to one’s nose.

Adding to the chorus that this one sounds intriguing to me too! The OLL line has been hit or miss for me, but I really like the ones that are hits and I adore the packaging.

Pork and chive dumplings are my favourite….yum!

Oriza Legrand’s discovery sample pack has been out of stock for quite some time. I wonder if they are repackaging it with the new releases? That would be super!
