Hump Day! Authors born on this day: David Foster Wallace, Jonathan Safran Foer, and Nobel prize winner Mikhail Aleksandrovich Sholokhov. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Etro Shaal Nur.
Reminder: 2/23 will be Library Friday...honor National Library Month with any sort of fragrance association you can think of.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I could not think of a library association, so today I am in Neela Vermeire Mohur because it’s simply gorgeous!
Like a book, the scent has the ability to transport you! How’s that?
Nice call!
Ohhh! I like it!!
I am in my “plain jane” perfume romantina from Juliette has a Gun. I call it that because it is a good go-to, everyday fragrance. Nice, not too big for work, and not extreme in any way to distract me.
I call that a “no brainer” 🙂
Wearing Hermes Kelly Caleche. I have forgotten how simple, comfy and pretty this perfume is. It makes me feel cheerful every time I wear it.
Ready to enjoy the 74 degrees we are expecting today!
You smell great. One of my favorites!
Thank you! ????
crazy weather, you smell great!
Thank you! You also smell so good in PdN New York!
The weather is indeed crazy. Tomorrow back to the reality of winter again. ????
I’m happy to be getting a bit of winter in my neck of the woods, but I wouldn’t mind a quick follow-up at 74 degrees!
Hopefully you will get it soon!
Assuming we have a “proper” Oregon spring, this snow will melt and a week or two later will be glorious. She likes to keep us on our toes.
You smell lovely and enjoy the heat wave! I can’t believe how warm it will be. I certainly will take it, but it does feel weird. And I’m still overdressed. I think I don’t trust the weather reports, lol.
I am also overdressed. You never know and I do not want surprises on my commute back home!
Mmm, you smell soo good!
Thank you!
I long for those Hermes sets that have minis….they’re forever on my wish list. I love a high majority of Hermes scents.
I also like most of the Hermes perfumes. I hope you have the chance to get those super cute minis soon. It is the best way to try the line.
I’m always tempted to get them in duty free shops in airports haha. But I’ve usually purchased too much on travel already by the time I see them and then can’t justify spending more money ha!
But it’s duty free so theoretically should be cheaper!
???? ???? for your SOTD!
Thank you! ????
Crazy week at work so far. I went with Jeux de Peau this morning, to distract myself from my lack of a timely breakfast. If I can just make it to noon…. 🙂
Have a great day all!
Does a good gourmande scent whet your appetite or help control it? I’ve been trying to figure out how it works for me, and I honestly can’t say if there’s a rule!
Marjorie Rose, I have been trying to figure this out too! I had the idea recently that I could try using sweet fragrances to satisfy my cravings for actual sweets but I’m not sure if it’s actually making it worse or better? I think this is worth exploring further. 🙂
More testing!
I don’t know if anything in this world could slow my appetite honestly but JdP is the scent of a fabulous breakfast. Maybe it’s just calming me down. 🙂
A year or so ago, I tried reading DFW’s Infinite Jest and could not get through it. I just looked at the wikipedia page for it and realized, no wonder. I don’t think I approached it the right way!
Today I’m in Ex Nihilo Love Shot which works for the library theme because I had to look up what “ex nihilo” means (out of nothing). It’s also my “plain jane” scent per shellyw above — a go-to that will not offend when I’m out and about!
So curious about what you mean about the approach to Infinite Jest! How were you approaching it and how do you think you should now?
yes, I’m curious too!
I think sometimes certain literary styles make me feel stupid. I had trouble relating to the characters and I could not find the plot! I was not aware of what he was doing with structure and and I don’t think I had the right background to appreciate the references and allusions etc. Part of the problem might be that I kept picking it up and putting it down and picking it up much later; not enough continuity. I’m also curious about others’ experiences! I know that it’s considered a masterpiece. At the time I was just looking to be entertained I think. 🙂
I am one of those who found Infinite Jest marvelously, rivetingly entertaining from the first chapter, and who got sad as I got closer to the end because it meant the pleasure of each page would be over soon. Most people I know who love it feel the same, but I also know plenty of very smart people who can’t stand it. I think his writing style is one of those where it’s either delightful to you or it’s not… to me that delight has always been the main reason to read it (I honestly lose track of the plot all the time), so if I could absolve you from feeling you have to force yourself if you don’t find it instantly and compellingly delicious, I would!
I loved the first chapter! That’s the one with the kids partying at college or something, right? If the whole thing had continued as that first chapter had then I would have been in delirium too! Of course, your comments are indicating that I should give it another chance. I really really enjoyed his cruise ship piece.

Hm sounds like it might be for you then! I would encourage you to kind of let the plot wash over you and not feel you need to know exactly what’s happening. Oh, and you’ll need a second bookmark for the endnotes 🙂
I mean, Ulysses is considered a masterpiece, and I confidently say that the first 160 pages that I slogged through were exclusively an unmitigated waste of time. Everyone seems to adore Faulkner, and reading As I Lay Dying was so bad that it convinced me that not every book I pick up needs to be finished. I haven’t read IJ yet, but from your description, I suspect it will fall into that category of books that others declare masterpieces and that I decide are not worth my precious reading hours.
Ulysses was assigned reading for me in a class. Clearly I faked my way through somehow because I know I didn’t get very far into it before giving up. Same for the Faulkner title. Lesson learned, I backtracked to 19th Century lit.
I’ve heard plenty of people mention completing Ulysses as a badge of honor! That’s not one I’ve earned either. 🙂 I did however take a Modernism literature course online through Stanford not long ago, we read Sound & Fury which is my only Faulkner experience and I enjoyed it (if you can use the word “enjoy” for difficult topics). Of course, this was after the absolute act of will that was needed to read Nightwood from the same era — another book that seems to sacrifice plot for style. Never would have finished that if not for the class, but I definitely benefited from the close study of it as art.
“…I definitely benefited from the close study of it as art” could also be said for me and the original Bandit! Which, interestingly, was released around the same time (1944; Nightwood was 1937). Those were some complex women!!!
OMG! AILD is one of my top ten!! ????
HA! I realized all books need not be finished many years ago and can’t tell you how many I’ve tossed aside with only a couple of chapters to go.
I can’t remember which Faulkner novel I read, but the task of doing so made me understand why the movie “To Have and Have Not” is so hard to follow. He wrote the screenplay.
I adore As I Lay Dying! But could not finish Ulysses even though I also loved other books by Joyce.
I could rattle off several classics I could not get through (Dickens, Joyce, Proust) plus Rushdie’s Satanic Verses. If a book doesn’t hold my interest I no longer feel compelled to finish it.
My husband and his friends use Infinite Jest as a measure of *something* with each other. There are smug comparisons made about how many times each has finished it. . .
Infinite Jest as inside joke! I love it!
I think I may just be a wuss when it comes to reading. Give me candy for the brain. I didn’t finish Cloud Atlas either.
Have you seen the movie The End of the Tour with Jason Segel as David Foster Wallace? It’s about a week spent with a Rolling Stone reporter. Much shorter than IJ is a graduation speech he gave called This is Water. It’s a great piece, very compassionate.
I think books are like perfumes in that sometimes they are not a good match . Reflecting on why that is can be pretty interesting.
Wow. I skimmed through a bit of it and will have to go back and read it later when I have no other worries on my mind.
I enjoyed that speech a lot and totally agree about books and people being a good match. Stream of consciousness writing and I are not a good match.
Wearing Ambre Russe by Parfum d`Empire – channeling Tolstoy for a cold, blustery day here in Nova Scotia
Tolstoy and cold are a good match
Wonderful scent!
My favourite amber!
Tea for Two today – a perfectly cozy winter scent for curling up with a good book from the library.
nice choice
Great choice. ????????
Excellent choice – I just wish this scent suited me .
A good book and a smoking jacket. The cloves cigarettes vibe on that one can be intense!
I think Tea for Two remains my very favorite L’Artisan fragrance (okay, maybe tied with the late, lamented Vanilia). I remember not liking the clovey-smoke the first few times I tried it, and then suddenly one morning, I was completely won over by the beautiful, honeyed, smoky tea. It’s one of the few perfumes I’ve had to repurchase after I emptied the bottle.
You picked a good one!
Once again, I’ve completely forgotten about this one!
Too many perfumes!
I am wearing a mystery perfume today! With the tenuous, made-up-after-the-fact connection that libraries are where you go to do research. Maybe you all can act as my library today.
I got this perfume as an extra when I bought a vintage solid compact of Moondrops, as part of a pair. Thanks to Murphy’s law, I of course prefer the other vintage solid that came with it, that does not have a name. It may be Helena Rubenstein; the compact is a gold circle with little knobs all over it that looks much like other HR solids I’ve seen online (sadly also unnamed.) The fragrance is a rich, rose-forward floral bouquet, but to me the dominant note is honey. Any guesses? Poking around on Basenotes my best guess is Barynia, but I’m not convinced as I’m not picking up much aldehyde or vetiver… anyone recognize this description?
how fun! I just found a vial of mystery perfume yesterday, haven’t tried it yet. I have no leads for you but good luck in your search!
I don’t know whether to wish you the frustrating joy of loving it!
i know! 🙂
Hmm. I’m not familiar with any Helen Rubinstein… would this site be helpful? Not a lot of description of the perfumes, but maybe the names would help.
https://helenarubinsteinperfumes.blogspot.com/p/blog-page.html
Thank you, that’s such a helpful reference! Also has made me curious about what on earth “cologne foam” was.
I’m wearing Dior Milly-la-Foret for the first time.
What do you think of it ??
It is a good office scent, light and quite pretty, but otherwise rather forgettable. I prefer Cuir Cannage from the same line. I also have Granville from the same line, but I haven’t tried it yet.
Cuir Cannage goes quite dirty on me. I bought a FB when I was in Portugal a few years ago
SOTD PdN New York, because New York Public Library
My husband said, hmmm smells soapy and musky
I really like it. I have to admit, I do smell something reminiscent of Tinkerbell perfume. I also thought I smelled something reminiscent of Tinkerbell in PdN Odalisque. So, does PdN have a base perfume like Guerlain has, the Guerlainade? Do they have Nicolade? Maybe I’m just remember perfume in general, or maybe there is a similar note, who knows?
I’ve only tried a handful of PdN, but stopped there as they all had a similar note that I didn’t care for. It was slightly fruity (maybe osmanthus-ish?) IIRC.
That’s how I feel about the Atelier line. On me, they all dry down to the same generic musc.
All the Atelier citruses dry down to overwhelming spices on me and end up smelling the same.
Cire Trudon Bruma from an iris sampler draw prize at Perfume Posse (I have been lucky the last few months with draws!) Getting a few more irises in this month. I need to douse a little more liberally when I get home from work because I’m not getting enough of my dabs to figure out if I like this one. The opening was definitely vegetal but now it’s too soft to really get an impression.
Bruma needs some hefty sprays, and even then, it doesn’t stick around on me for long. I think you smell beautiful!
I ❤️ Bruma. You smell great.
I’m stretching a bit for the library association with Francesca Bianchi’s Under My Skin. Last time I held a actual book (not on a technology instrument) I got a paper cut.
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Cute stretch, though ???? How is that one. I’ve wanted to try her line for a while now.
Like but not love. I would definitely wear it but The Dark Side works better for me and would be higher in the list.
Oh that would work for library week.
I just got the sample set of these and almost immediately bought The Dark Side because 1) it was my fave and 2) my person came home from work and immediately said ‘oh something smells really good.’
Woke up to 0Fahrenheit this morning, so I wanted something warming. 32 Venenum from L’Artisan’s Natura Fabularis is doing the trick. It’s basically a drier, less sweet Tea for Two (which I also love).
I absolutely love the ‘garage of books’ photo. Cheers to the folks of Kansas City, MO, for turning an otherwise ugly parking garage into a whimsical, attractive, and perfect accompaniment to the public library. I wish more cities would take note!
I just recently bought Venenum and can totally see the Tea for Two connection (minus the ashtray note some get).
Love that wall mural!
Aaaaaand that goes on the to-try list! I like T42, but sometimes, it’s a bit much with the smoke.
Isn’t that cool? I thought it was some kind of art installation at first – amazing that it’s a permanent structure!
Gah, that’s one of the Natura Fabularises that I had wanted to see at the splitmeet 🙁 well, you certainly smell exquisite!
Agree! Was glad to see it was not the library itself, since libraries should probably include windows, but it’s a fantastic structure.

It is lovely, with about 3 fresh inches of snow outside my door right now. It’s a treat in these parts, and I’m regretting I didn’t wake up a touch earlier, so I could go out and photograph before the sun rose fully. Though, sleeping in is nice, too. Based on current forecasts, my guess is that we won’t have school before Friday. More weather on the way!
No SOTD, yet, but I wore L’eau d’Hiver yesterday to work, and one of the kids said it smelled like “new diapers and oatmeal” in my classroom. I didn’t tell her she was probably smelling me. 🙂 Now that she mentions it, there IS something new-diapery about L’edH!
Love your snowfall visual! Perceptive kiddo and I can see what she means. It always reminded me if some sort of baby lotion or baby shampoo, but in a cimforting way.
It is going to be a proper warm day here, so decided to match in TDC Kashan Rose from the ever generous Petunia. I really like it. It’s a fresh pink rose, but the base has a hint of warmth so nice for a mild day like today.
Enjoy! Sun is shining and you smell fab
Thanks ltsg!
I sprayed that over a patchouli I was trying yesterday that I wasn’t really liking. Unfortunately it magnified the notes in the patchouli that I was trying to muffle. It’s much better on its own!
Oh, and thanks to you and Koyel, I bought some fractionated coconut oil yesterday, plus some avocado and shea nut oil. Now my post-shower oil won’t smell like coconut, and I can put it into a squeeze bottle instead of a jar. *derp*
Good luck!! I’ve been reusing my Tauer Rose Delight bottle for my oily concoctions 🙂 Let us know how you do with this new mixture.
Oh, great! I resmelled my liquid coconut oil just to be sure. There’s a slight hint of coconut, but nowhere near the solid. And my cats love to lick the solid stuff and aren’t interested in the other, so I think they’re going by smell. Cat assisted science ????
Yes, I’m expecting that each oil will have a scent but not the overwhelming coconut smell of the solid.
And mixing perfume in will be so much easier. Dump oils in, add perfume, shake. Mixing the solid in a 1 oz glass jar like I’ve been doing takes some work.
I really don’t know why I didn’t think of this on my own. LOL
I like that one more every time I wear it 🙂
It’s really great! I’ve been in a fresh rose quest for a bit and this one really hits the spot!
I am wearing Roja Dove Unspoken extrait. Hmmm, tenuous library connection – being quiet and leaving your thoughts unspoken while you are there. 🙂
Hey, that works! I am failing this project so far.
I mustered up some energy and spent the morning at Central Park..kids had fun and the weather is perfect.
Nose is still stuffed but it feels much better after spending some time outdoors!
SOTD Songes
One can day dream in the library while reading a book right?
Glad you’re feeling better.
Thank you 🙂
Glad you’re on the mend! I took a quick stroll through CP this afternoon when I left Mt Sinai. It was beautiful and sunny! Hope you guys enjoyed ????
Thought Commodity Paper would be perfect for today, but just an hour later I can’t smell anything at all. I see that iso-e super is a primary note, so maybe I’m anosmic?
I don’t know that scent, but it’s possibly you’re anosmic. I notice that I can barely smell Iso E Super — I CAN smell it, but not well and not for long, and many of the Ormonde Jaynes (well-known for using a substantial amount of that material) smell quite similar to me.
They all smell similar to me *and* give me a headache. I am usually suspect of the aromachemical anxieties – everything is chemicals! – but with this one it really does bother me.
I.e. not all chemicals are good!
Honestly, I like several of the Commodity scents but NONE last on me. I have one of their sampler sets and they all fade very quickly for me…
I LOVE that photo!
It’s flippin’ cold! Brrrr! Glad I have my little 40 pound space heater! I’m just now surfacing, but will be wearing Ummagumma to warm up. And Coffee! I need some stat! ☕️☕️☕️☕️
I wonder if there has been an issue with that name?
T-Rex is only 40 pounds? In my mind, she’s so much bigger! 🙂
She has a BIG personality????
You smell mahvelous!
I wondered that as well. Maybe Pink Floyd are too busy suing each other to go after any alleged copyright infringement on an album name? 😛 Actually, thinking about it, I’m not entirely sure that one can sue over a shared title (there are books that have the same title). I think April Aromatics came out with a ‘Purple Rain’ fragrance recently? Metallica successfully sued Guerlain, but I think this came out in their favor because the band’s name was trademarked. If BF had called it “Pink Floyd,” the band might have come out swinging.
Oh, good to know. I think the “fighting” was mostly by Roger Waters, since he’s a bit of a jerk????. Other than Gilmour, the others have passed away.
I do love this perfume and I will admit, the name is a great reminder of my teens as I was finding my way through music and discovering bands that really resonated with me, as opposed to popular bands of the moment.
How is the RV hunt going? Have you found anything?
I have narrowed it down to 3 manufacturers. Two are built in Canada (because they know a little bit about cold weather!). The other is built in Texas. All are fiberglass because they last forever and hold their value very well, require minimum maintenance, and are easy to tow. I want the most expensive (of course!) but will probably end up with the entry level one. Wait list as about 6-12 months.
Cool! Whichever one you get I’m sure you will turn it into a Goddess Palace on Wheels.
One of my deal breakers is that it must have good sized nook for perfumes! Who needs storage for clothes, food and shoes!! It’smore important to drape yourself in scent????
That’s so cool!!! We had an airstream for several years we adored. We got rid of it because we were moving and didn’t know what our situation would be for a while, but we will definitely be getting another one. We love campers/RVs!
Airstream shave an excellent reputation, just a bit out of my budget though. I love the style of them; they don’t pretend to be house on wheels, but exploit their wonderful modern tin can-ness!
How is T-Rex doing in your cold snap? I remember you posting about her being a little unhappy when she first experienced winter weather.
So kind of you to ask! She’s fine as long as she’s moving- hiking, walking, running around at the dog park. If she’s idle, I put a fleece on her and she seems to be fine with that. When I leave for work, I heat up the van, put her fleece on, and before I can close the van door, she’s hunkered down in the sleeping bag. She’s no dummy????
My library connection is lame: I will be going over to the library in an hour or so for a session with my class. Because I’ll be in close-ish contact, I needed easy and non offensive – Baiser Vole from a sample. I love the opening, but the drydown is a little dull/generic.
BV is perfect for those situations where you want to smell good, but not stand out
Commenting late but had to say that GOING TO the library is THE BEST library connection ever!
🙂 I just hope the students keep utilizing the library. I love our public libraries as well – that’s where I got the Luca Turin perfume books initially!
I’m psyched about the warm weather here today! Abandoned my usual winter black for a floral cardi in coral and blue. Wearing Yosh’s Ginger Ciao.
Be well, all, on this Hump Day!
That sounds like a great clothing/fragrance combo!
I love coral and blue together.
Yesterday, I ended up with Kyoto for my SOTD. Right now I am wearing vintage Bal in EDT form. I haven’t gotten into the shower yet and starting to crave some Une Rose Vermielle.
Kyoto is lovely! So tranquil
(PSA: There’s still plenty of Atelier des Ors Cuir Sacre up at the splitmeet! A gorgeous oriental leather that serves as a barrier against the cold in the winter and brightens your days in the summer. Also it has gold in it.)
I am unbearably sleepy this morning. You see, this is why public transit is so much better than driving! Driving while sleepy is such a dreadful idea.
But the world is giving me a big hug today because I’m in Ambre Narguile! Frooooooom my brand-new bottle!!!!!!!!! Ok, it’s not that I’m not thrilled to have a real, livable income instead of a grad student stipend. It’s just that it’s made me terribly unwise and wasteful. BUT I’ve loved this one since I first fell down the rabbit hole, and I now finally have an effectively unlimited amount of it! Wheeeeeeeee. Anyway, I smell like the most fabulous tarte tatin next to a weensy glass of Macallan 21 (a bottle of which sits unopened in our bar, which has sat there since I received it as a graduation present more than a year ago and therefore probably doesn’t smell anything like I remember it smelling from the last time I had it several years ago).
I’ve even thought up a library reference: it’s called Ambre *Narguile*, which recalls old men sitting around hookahs and puffing away. These very old men are libraries in themselves, full of stories from varied lifetimes. I’m not stretching the definitions of the CP at all. Nope.
oooooh, delicious. Congrats on your Ambre Narguile. That’s a good one. 🙂
It’s amazing how rich you feel that first year after grad school. I’ve been out for 2 years now and it’s still kind of amazing.
Haha, we got our bonuses last week, and there was much griping about how modest the bonuses are compared to how hard we work/how well the company is doing. I kept my mouth shut, because I was just so excited that I had gotten the first bonus of my life, and it felt like a massive pile of money!
It’s true! I graduated in 2016 and have been working full-time since then – for the first time in my life. My annual income is still quite small, but it’s enough that I can afford my own apartment with no roommates. What a luxury!
Oh, that first time living alone is AMAZING! I remember just luxuriating in the quiet.
Congrats on both your bonus and your new bottle!
New bottle!!????????
Sadly, I think that something has died in the wallspace between my desk and my closet. There is an awful (but very faint) smell. It’s driving me crazy.
Wearing the strong Kelly Caleche parfum, in hopes of overpowering the EWWWWWWW!
Twins! I hope Kelly Caleche helps you with such unexpected “aroma”!
Me too! Ha!
We smell great.
“EWWWWWW” is right! Yuk! Hope the Kelly Caleche helps!
Oh no..you might want to go check it out. maybe a mouse?
Oh YEUCK! Hope you can get rid of the Eau de Pew!
Just the other day I received an email from my library that I need to come in to renew my card. What?! How is this not automatically renewed, or at least given an option to review online? All my library books I get via the online portal for my Kindle anyway. Arrrghh!
SOTD: VC&A’s Orchidée Vanille
No coat this morning, just a blazer. Lovin’ 65+ degree weather in late-Feb.
Your SOTD sounds yummy. 😀
I love reading on Kindle. I resisted for a long time but it is so perfect for travel, I’m a convert now. I can bring a dozen “books” and not worry about luggage space.
My favorite library requires cards to be renewed in person too. Boo. The library charges a fee for the card if the patron doesn’t live or work in that city. They ask for a bank statement/utility bill/pay stub to show proof of residency or employment there.
That happened to me. It’s automatic every three years – probably to ensure you are still a resident. Since I still had a CA license, I just brought in correspondence with my address. They glanced and renewed. Took 2 seconds at a small local branch. My guess is it’s to protect the electronic downloads from every John/Jane Doe who once lived here but has since moved.
My library system (well, it’s one smallish library in the county seat, linked with the even tinier one in my town, also linked with the one in the next small-city-with-a-university) doesn’t send notifications, either by mail or email. Too expensive, apparently. They WILL call you if you’ve had a book a week past its due date, and I don’t think you need to ask me how I know that. 🙁
This seems to be common now! My library does the same thing.
I’m continuing my week of Hermes with Smell Bent’s The Yard Next Door …because I’ve gone off topic as usual. It’s a blind buy, bought because the gums are in flower at the moment and I’ve been trying to identify them all without a lot of success. One very small leaved gum with small white flowers has a lovely honeyed blossom smell. The perfume is based on eucalyptus but is stripped of the sinus clearing aspect leaving an almost clean floral eucalyptus smell. It’ like walking through a stand of trees after rain and its nice. Match with Australian author Murray Bail’s EUcalyptus…a fable-like novel set in rural NSW about a marriage suitor having to name all the eucalyptus trees on a farm. Ambre de Merveilles later…it’s not yet 6am so lots of time.
I really need to try that Smell Bent. I love Florist’s Fridge (come to think of it, where did I PUT that one?)
It’s good but very Smell Bent….strong and long lasting. I think it might be my favourite of the fresher, ‘nature’ ones (like Florist Fridge, and Greenhouse). I seem to have quite a collection now. A random collection.
SotM = a dab of Iris Silver Mist from a sample
I wore this one last night too. ISM feels like a walk-in refrigerator, filled with the mineral smell of dirty carrots and the wheat-y breath of bread dough. The air is cold and metallic.
I’m reading David Lebovitz’ book L’appart: the delights and disasters of making my Paris home. Must finish reading it soon, it’s a library copy due on Friday.
LOVE the photo up top today, it makes a nice reading list. I could suss out all the titles except the blue one at the far right. I think it’s Truman.
Have a wonderful Wednesday, NST, wherever your scented adventures may lead you!
You smell great!
thanks, Amy! ISM is strange and beautiful. 😀
Wearing Gourmand Coquin today. This week feels long.
Agreed
you smell fab! Need to dig out my sample of that
Mmmm you smell divine
Yes, this has been/is a long week! I thought it felt like Thursday earlier today.
Yum! One of our favourites. 🙂
Aramis Calligraphy Saffron on my left arm and Aramis Calligraphy Rose on my right arm. The library connection is, of course, “calligraphy”.
And, which one is better?
Rose, hands down.
I tried all three scents in this line. Calligraphy and Calligraphy Saffron are nice perfumes, but they do not make my heart beat faster, unlike Calligraphy Rose. Yummy, almost edible resinous rose.
I think one YouTube reviewer compared it to Tauerville Rose Flash. I have an untried sample of RF – so maybe I will do a side-by-side comparisons of Tauerville and Aramis one day.
They were quite different on me. I didn’t care for the Calligraphy Rose on me.
Ah, well that does sound compelling — I love Rose Flash!
Morning, all. I’ve been admiring your ingenuity and insights with the library connections you’re all making. I’m afraid that as my perfume doldrums continue, any literary or library associations are completely escaping me. It seems I’m off perfume, off sleep, and now off food too. Actually, I have now produced a couple of tedious symptoms that I’m taking to the doctor as soon as I get a minute. I think that maybe they may be part of a bigger thing that might account for my general beige-grey frame of mind.
I’m going to sign myself out of NST until this passes, because I really cannot bear writing about the perfumes I no longer love, or at least, can’t love and don’t want to wear right at this moment. I will bounce back in like Tigger in a few weeks. In the meantime, from all Chez Waterdragon. the two bonny Stripies, Eric Redfeather, the dear man and me, ngā mihi nui. Be well, all.
Oh no! We will miss you and really hope you find a solution and a way to get to a better place overall.
Awww goodbye, waterdragon! I hope things improve for you all around and you join us again soon.
look forward to seeing you here again soon!
Will be thinking of you.
Hang in there Waterdragon! Looking forward to a bouncing Tigger in a couple of weeks.
Hope you perk up soon!
I am sorry for the beige days and hope that they mood lifts quickly.
Be well yourself, Waterdragon. Will be thinking of you.
Get some rest. You’ve had such an exhausting start to the year. Look after yourself and much love.
Take care of yourself, Waterdragon. I do hope that I will see you back here at a later date. Best wishes to all the residents of Chez Waterdragon, too.
Best wishes, waterdragon. Looking forward to seeing your Tiggerification, hopefully soon.
Take good care, and do talk to the doctor!
I hope all will be well in the end! Eill be thinking of you and the furries.
I’ll be waiting for your red boots!
Today I’m in Rose Nacré du Dessert. Im in a cloud of soft spicy rosyness. ☺️
You smell wonderful!
I put on a spray of “This is Not a Blue Bottle” from a sample I received and it is DREADFUL. Really screechy and tenacious. I’ve been scrubbing and scrubbing. I don’t know when I’ve smelled something so awful.
Nothing worse than a scrubber that resists your scrubbing! I hope you have something good to replace it!
I think you’re the 2nd person who has mentioned that this week. Note to self – stay away from the Blue Bottle.
I’ve been curious about that one. Thanks for taking one for the team.
I feel your pain. I wore 3.1 for a day and could not get it off me soon enough.
I could smell it in the baggie it came in and had to throw it out, it was so harsh.
Thanks for taking the hit! I will avoid those blue bottles for sure…
Happy Hump Day, all! Gosh I wish it was Thursday. I’ve decided to take off on Friday and take a quick weekend trip to Alabama to see my son. I miss him and he can’t really get away because of school right now. But we could hang out Friday night and Saturday. I
I’m in TF Cafe Rose today. I do love it, but not as much as my Noir de Noir. Can’t think of a library connection but I will worry about that tomorrow and Friday. 🙂
Cafe Rose faded on me very fast..how about you?
It’s SUPER potent on me. I sprayed two sprays (or was it three?
I can’t remember for sure) and when I first got to work I was worried it was too much. It’s died down some, but hanging in strong after 4 hours.
It’s potent on me as well.
And people read in cafes, surely some of those books have been picked up from libraries.
Missing both your son and your H! My sympathies – that’s a tough one.
Thank you! Yeah, I think my son is actually happy I’m flying in for a quick visit. Funny how kids appreciate mom a little more when they start college/ mom moves to a different state! Of course, I also think he’s happy because he knows we will eat at all of our favorite places while I’m in town haha. 😉
Good thinking on the cafe/library association!
Safe travels on your trip!
Wearing Il Profumo Vanille Bourbon and Missions cologne.
I may need more of the VB!
My SOTD is MFK APOM, because this library really is a piece of me. I have been here for 8 years. None of the students has had anyone else as their school librarian. I have chosen and purchased most of the books on the shelves (with the help of many book reviews and recommendations and requests). And I think APOM is maybe my favourite MFK.
❤ That’s the kind of librarian I wanna be someday!
<3
????
Perfect. 🙂
Nice! I think you win the CP! Have you ever had a parent complain about a book one of their kids brought home? I’d say you have a hard job, trying to expand students minds AND their parents as well!
ATTN ALMOND LOVERS I just put a split of Jo Malone Honey & Crocus up at the Splitmeet. NSTers who’ve smelled it says it has a marzipan/almond note. Fragrantica reviewers agree. ????
I am in JM Mimosa & Cardamom, which I have been craving lately (spring must be in the air despite the snow-topped rooves in my neighborhood.) I finished off my decant and do need some more. Hmm…
… SIGH. I might have to curse you.
Because I think I need some of this.
WOO HOO! 😀
Yay, I joined your split!
Grump, I missed it 🙁 three people have already claimed your 15 mL! Grumble. Oh well, I don’t need more perfume.
Wearing Puredistance I from a long-neglected sample. Didn’t like it the first time, didn’t remember why… now I do. It’s the same screechy, headache-inducing jasminoid thing I hated so much in Antonia.
Epidor split is still open.
I am wearing Sonoma Scent Studio Voile de Violette. It smells so pretty. I will be sorry when this bottle is finished.
That’s a gorgeous violet.
I wish I had more than my sample. ????
Ah, yet another scent I failed to try in time. *wistful sigh*
SOTD is DeProfundis because it is gorgeous outside and I want to celebrate before we go back to regular winter temps.
De Profundis is beautiful, isn’t it. I wore it yesterday.
And the name fits the library theme (twice: Bible and Oscar Wilde).
I just can’t get used to that name going with that scent. I love both the name and the scent separately, though!
Frederic Malle Iris Poudre for me today. It’s ok, I can wear it but I don’t love it and don’t feel like I need a bottle of it. I think aldehydes in the opening don’t suit me well.
Money saved, wallet will be happy.
And I love the opening, but it becomes meh on me after an hour or so. The 10 ml in the Malle Toybox (coffret) will likely last me a lifetime. 🙂
At least there’s a handy size available
I adore the drydown.
But hey. If it isn’t for you, it just isn’t for you.
Yes, if it doesn’t click – it doesn’t click
Wearing Ce Soir ou Jamais, which is the title of a French book, I can’t read French but I gather it is about world war 2 and the French Resistance.
I did not know that was from a book title!
I’m wearing Papillon Perfumes Angélique. It’s a quiet perfume, but had depth, if that makes sense.
I needed a good spritz of Carnal Flower to Get trough this cold and snowy day. It is so wonderfully uplifting.
Yep, you smell fantastic!
Salome today. The snow is starting to melt and is plopping off the trees in large splats. I have to go to the library later to pick up my books on hold (the gas station, too, but it’s not gas station week.)
I know just the scent for gas station week, too! Santa Maria Novella Nostalgia smells like engine cleaner. 🙂
I’m wearing Ciel d’Opale today. Nothing too complicated, just a really, really pretty scent.
In Idylle Love Blossom on this spring-like day.
My library connection is just severe irritation that two e-books I’ve had on hold for months (months!) came through at the same time. I downloaded them this morning, and when I try to open them, I get a message saying the files are corrupt and cannot be opened. Shaking my head.
Happened to be in Bigelow over the weekend and got the lavender salve. Already doing wonders for my nails.
You smell lovely! Good choice for this weather.
That sounds super frustrating about your books. Ugh.
My leather and iris perfume of today is Cuir Ottoman. I love it! It has great presence and is interesting but not distracting. If only yesterday’s Cuir de Nacre was more long lasting, then I would hold it in higher regard. I’m really loving leather perfumes right now.
Now if only my cold (not sinus infection) would go away…
I’m happy to hear that you don’t have a sinus infection! Those things are horrible.
Thanks, I do hate them! This cold is pretty sucky though. I’m kind of a baby when I’m sick haha.
Colds aren’t any fun, either. I get really cranky when I’m sick.
I do love Cuir Ottoman. You smell wonderful!
Thanks! I can’t wait to reapply when I get home.
SotD was L’Attesa by Masque (inspired by Lucas who mentioned it yesterday). I love it!!! Its chic but also easy to wear, perfect for work.
This evening I am wearing Thebes G1 by Sultan Pasha Attars, to continue the iris theme.
Its a whole different take on iris though, especially compared to the pretty, fresh and bubbly L’Attesa.
Thebes is animalic, and it smells like decay in a good way. Dry and dusty, I see a connection with this weeks theme 🙂
And I think its out of this world, hauntingly beautiful (I read somewhere that it is inspired by/a hommage to Djedi by Guerlain). Cant stop sniffing myself when I wear it.
I’m going to wear L’Attesa before the month is over. It’s one of my favorite iris perfumes.
That Thebes sounds really interesting.
SOTD: Sycomore EdP because it is humid as all get out here (what happened to our famously dry summer heat?). Also I am wearing a very girly pink dress today so I wanted a contrast.
You look and smell great. 🙂
Weirdly warm and humid weather for me today. And I don’t care for it at all. There is something about it that reminds me of the charge in the air before a massive thunderstorm. This will sound strange, but I am looking forward to more seasonally appropriate weather tomorrow.
SOTD = SJP Covet, from the sample stash and a lovely NSTer. I had forgotten that this had the most amazing lemon note in it. But I hated the bottle so much that I never purchased the scent. Kind of a case of being “bottle repelled”.
I don’t like that kind of weather either. Hence, the reason I am out of Florida. Hope your weather perks up tomorrow. “Bottle repelled”- that’s how I feel about Omnia, but apparently not repelled enough to forgo the juice.
🙂 Covet is all lemony chocolate on me. Fortunately, I don’t find the bottle toooo horrible! For a closed cabinet, anyway.
Continuing with Iris month with L’Heure Bleu edp. I don’t find too much iris in here but it’s hitting the spot as it’s back to snow yet again.
Isn’t it Spring yet?
SOTD = Le Galion Iris
Heh, either fat fingers or spell check changed Le Galion to Le Falcon. This one reminds me of a less potent ISM, so ????????????????!
The library reference? The sleeve for the box has a gold-embossed rectangle with the name of the perfume and an image of a galleon ship. That “label” reminds me of bookplates!
