It's Tuesday and it's Croissant Day, plus in some US states, the Fred Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties and the Constitution. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Jo Malone Dark Amber & Ginger Lily, because Nightingale reminded me of it yesterday.
Reminder: on 2/2, we're doing Groundhog Day...assemble some winter- and spring-appropriate samples in a bowl, pick one at random, then tell us if spring will be early or late this year.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image, in honor of the recent passing of Ingvar Kamprad, shows SOMMARGLIM tea towels, $4.99 for the pair at Ikea.
Well I found a sample of Chanel Jersey that arrived in a swap package last year. I had not remembered it. I was not impressed when I put it on, but after walking the dog and warming up a bit, it is quite pleasant. I am deeply in love with several exclusives and this is not love, but it is lovely.
I am not deeply in love with it either.
Misia, Jersey, Beige and 1932 took a while to grow on me but now I find them quite enjoyable!
Going with Chanel Boy today. ????
another chanel, yeah!
You smell great!
Chanel Boy is one of my favorite exclusives.
You smell great, i love Boy, I haven’t tried it in winter though
It’s supposed to reach the low 60s here today, so the spring-like weather was an easy excuse to choose what has become the closest thing to an HG as I’ve ever had, DSH Divine Gardens. Absolute perfection.
Looking forward to Groundhog Friday!
Very jealous! We have a light dusting of snow, not bad, but would love some sunshine to go with it.
In Chanel Coromandel for a cold, snowy and busy day at work. Stay warm everyone!
nice:)
Smelling wonderful! Stay warm yourself!
Thank you Lillyjo! đ
Twins! We smell soooo great. Seriously.
Hi twin! No doubts we smell terrific! đ
Great perfume! I would wear it too but itâs going to be too warm for it, I think. But you smell wonderful.
Thank you! Fortunately is cool enough here in NY and freezing in the office to enjoy Coromandel. It really shines in the cold.
I grabbed a sample out of my little bag for this weeks community project. Yuzu Rouge
Smells like a nice refreshing fragrance for summer, but I love Cristalle in the winter so this one may be just as uplifting..
Yuzu Rouge is elegant, and the rose really stands out on me.
I think Spring will come!
My FIL chai tea this morning and a bowl of Daal and saffron rice for breakfast.
Since I am on my “stay cation” I am headed to LadurĂ©e for something yummy and to catch up with my a girlfriend
Robin..lemming those tea towels!
Yeah, me too!
Your morning sounds wonderful! Enjoy Laduree. I wonder if their new perfume will be there for you to sample ?
oh! They have a perfume..ok..will report back if I try it
I have to tell you, I finally was able to smell Beige! All I could think was, You smelled beautiful on your wedding day. I really enjoyed it. Have a great time with your friend today!
Thank you!
Beige held up outside in 70F weather during my ceremony, the runner up was No22, but I went with Beige I felt it went well with how I looked/felt on my wedding day
SOTD SL Clair de Musc. Wanted something clean and musky today to go with the snow, though it’s not smelling particularly clean to me right now. It’s hitting the spot, though.
I was not expecting snow this morning…
Enjoy the day!
It was snowing a little when I got home late last night. Glad it’s not heavy. Stay warm and enjoy your LadureĂ© treats!
SOTD is MFK Oud Satin Mood. It’s pretty and airy and seems it will suit our nice already-spring weather (sunny and mid-sixties today, but still quite cool this morning).
Hi Calypso, I just received a sample of the extrait in a Luckyscent package, and I like it. It made me curious about the edp. Have you tried them both? If so, do you have a preference between the two?
No, sorry, I haven’t.
Early-nineties Mitsouko because I got it into my head that I HAD TO wear oakmoss or else. Just one of those days. It was the correct choice, obviously.
Scent twins! I was planning on something much warmer and sweeter (Insolence EDP) but at the last minute felt compelled to wear Mitsouko instead.
You can’t go wrong with Mitsouko! You smell lovely!
I couldn’t resist Azuree this morning. It is one of my favorites but I am always worried about it overpowering those around me… but I don’t have any meetings today, so I am letting it fill up my little office with leathery goodness.
Yay for solitude! You smell great!
You smell fantastic! I feel the same way with Azuree so I have to plan when to wear it.
My sensitivity about this one is compounded by the fact that the first time I ever wore it, not knowing yet of its strength, I put on three sprays of vintage Pure Fragrance Spray and then immediately got in a closed car with this cool couple I was really excited to be friends with. Eep.
I’ve never tried Azuree in cold weather. Maybe I should!
SOTD is Azemour les Oranges, over Molton Brown Bushukan shower gel.
YAY to Azemour.
Indeed. đ
Love Azemour!
SOTD is L’Air du DĂ©sert marocain. Testing it for the third time (my sample should give me one last wearing). I’ve reached my verdict: yes I’m buying a full bottle.
Have you tried the extrait version, au coeur du desert? I like it even better than the original.
I’ve tried that once or twice. I was not impressed mainly because as an extrait it sits very close to skin and doesn’t project much. I still have more than half a vial full and I need to test it again.
Ah! Thank you both for putting Au Coeur into a bowl for me to randomly pull out. I have a barely worn decant that is now sitting gorgeously on my skin.
Bill, I have issues with perfume projecting on my skin, but never a problem with this one. Maybe it needs to be sprayed, though?
Mine is a spray. I don’t really remember how it performed exactly. I need to try again.
There is also a mini now in case that suits you better!
Yes I know! I have a mini of the new L’Oudh and that bottle is cute! I think I’m getting a larger bottle of LADDM though. I love it that much. LOL
A FB will be an undeniably good investment.
I’m sad today and not sure why– but my perfume is beautiful! Wearing Amouage Beloved. It’s always nice to pop in and read what everyone is posting about, even if I don’t reply. I appreciate you all!
Chin up! Passing you a cuppa chai virtually
Wishing you much comfort today and sending virtual hugs! You smell lovely today.
I hope your day gets better đ
Cheer up! Life is short. You smell super fantastic! đ
I love Beloved! If I could trade like 5 of my bottles of fragrance, or even had extra money I’d buy a bottle of it. I am lucky to have 2 decants of it, and I wear it on special occasions. It is so gorgeous and perfectly elegant. I hope you cheer up soon and your day gets better!
I am very sad today and I do know why (family troubles I won’t bore you all with). Hope we both get happier soon — you are appreciated too gvillecreative!
Robin, I hope your day gets better too and everything gets solved soon.
I have been sad since January 2nd. I hope we all get happier in February.
Let’s hope. January has not been an easy month for some of us. Sending hugs!
Filomena, I am so sorry! I am never all that hopeful about February — my least favorite month — but I do hope we’re both smiling.
Hope things smooth out, Robin.
Robin, you can probably imagine how many people had warm wishes to you, even if they didnât comment. Letâs hope that somewhere in the Universe it went on the imaginary scales to tip them off towards positive resolution of whatever is going on.
Indeed.
As long as itâs not health issues everything can be sorted out… sending you good vibes!
Thank you all — this too shall pass, eventually, right? I am really ok, just sad at the moment.
It does pass and down the road sometimes you realize that things turned out exactly the way they were supposed to. I worry quite often about my kids and keep having to tell myself this when I am having an ‘anxious mommy moment”….the world unfolds exactly as it should……
I hope you can make yourself a nice quiet nest somewhere and curl up with a cup of tea. Here’s hoping the sun comes out soon.
I hope things are better soon. And I don’t even count February as a real month – between snow days and short weeks, you can’t get anything done at work!
I hope your day will get better, the new year hasn’t started good for me, lots of health problems in the family.
So sorry Hera, that is tough!
So sorry to hear that folks are having a rough time right now. Robin, I hope that your family issues resolve soon.
Thanks Jalapeno.
I’m sorry you are having a sad day. Sending virtual hugs. I hope you feel better soon.
Hope your day goes better. If the weather is decent where you are, maybe you can get out and get a little sunshine and exercise.
Hope you, Robin, Filomena and everyone feeling sad feels better soon. I was very depressed myself last week.
We should really all synchronize!
Joining the sad and depressed club, I hope everyoneÂŽs problems get sorted! And it is a melancholy time of year in the Northern hemishphere, IÂŽm really feeling the lack of light (and sleep) myself. Still on the bright side I did pass my first exam, and not many did, so I’m chuffed and feeling lucky.
Congratulations on you exam! A good reason to feel better. Spring is around the corner and daylight is staying longer….
Ah, see, we’re all in good company. Very big congrats on the exam, that’s wonderful news!
Congratulations on your exam!
Nice work! I hope you’re feeling proud!
Bravo! Youâre a star.
Being sad for no obvious reason is probably better than when you know the reason but canât âfixâ it. You smell great! Go for a walk, if you can, drink a cup of good tea or coffee, if you can, and find something good, even if itâs tiny, to think about.
Must be why my coffee budget has tripled this past month!
Jan-Feb. are tough. The cold, the bad weather and shortness of days.. no surprise folks are in a funk. I do agree that the mind is where it all starts, and so thinking about good things does help. + coffee
I hope Beloved lifts your mood and eases your sadness
I hope you feel better soon!
Sending comfort and you smell great! Love that Amouage.
Gvillecreative, I’m sending you peaceful vibes.
Tauer’s Hyacinth and a Mechanic today. It doesn’t really get cold enough here to transition into spring but this perfume would help. Lovely.
You smell great today Coumarin.
Thank you! It’s a nice fragrance, especially for the price. I debated getting a back up but it’s strong enough to last.
I am wearing Marni today and currently drinking a cup of lemon ginger tea.
I have a dental appointment in about an hour, and I am trying to get my courage up.
Good luck with that!
Hope it goes smoothly!
Ugh, hate the dentist- good luck!
chin up! Literally
Hope it goes well, Barqs!
Cousins! (I’m wearing Marni Spice).
For me, a trip to the dentist calls for courage – and a great afterward.
Everything went smoothly. It was a small filling. I am so glad its over!!!
Nice to hear that your dentist appointment was a good one!
This morning I am dipping into my cherished bottle of Rose Musc by Sonoma Scent Studio. It is rich and juicy rose paired with woods and cinnamon. I love it, and will be very sorry when it is gone. It was one of my first SSS fragrances, along with a bottle of Velvet Rose in 2008!!! I don’t know how it is possible that they are 10 years old, but wow. Over the weekend I got to have some special Ukrainian Orthodox “pastries” that are a type of donut hole filled with home-made rose jelly. OMG. The smell and taste of this rose jelly was intoxicating! My mom is going to try and get the recipe from her neighbor who makes it every year. I couldn’t believe how powerful the rose smell and taste was. I kept thinking: of all the rose fragrances I have, which one gets this powerful fresh deep smell??? I finally realized it is my Rose Musc.
That sounds amazing! I love flower flavors. I just bought some jasmine extract and have been throwing it willy-nilly into things like seltzer and milk.
Wow, that sounds decadent! Where did you find the jasmine extract?
Local Vietnamese grocery
Wow, that sounds amazing!
Aren’t those delicious? The Polish bakeries in my neighborhood have those. Such a treat!
It is! I’ve used cooking rose water for things before, but never had the experience of eating roses that had such an intoxicating aroma and flavor.
Ahhh I love Rose Musc and feel so fortunate to have some!!!
Somehow left the house without perfume this morning, and no EBP in my purse. Devastating!
On the other hand, eating chocolate rice pudding for breakfast, so it’s not all bad.
oh my, that sounds like a fabulous breakfast, wish I had some. Instead yogurt and seed-y granola
Maybe you could dab some of that pudding on your wrists. You’d smell delicious all day! đ
I would give up my perfume for the day happily in exchange for a bowl of chocolate rice pudding. Did you make it yourself (asking because I probably need a good recipe for chocolate rice pudding)?
It is homemade, using this recipe:
http://www.alwaysorderdessert.com/2015/11/easiest-ever-dark-chocolate-rice-pudding.html
It’s quite chocolate-ey, and as she warns, it sets up pretty firmly – so you want to take it off the heat while it’s still a little soupy. I’m already thinking about additions of cinnamon and/or orange zest next time.
Oh thank you! I am thinking orange & cardamom, maybe? That will be my project for the weekend.
I love rice pudding and adding chocolate is genius, much thanks for providing the recipe!
Wait…. There is chocolate rice pudding?! I really should get out more.
I did not know either. Need to look for it asap!
Haha posting a link to the recipe above in Robin’s comment. đ
Thankyou for the link. It sounds delish. I will make it this coming weekend!
I had not heard of it either until the early 90âs when my French MIL made some. Who knew?
*mind blown* CHOCOLATE RICE PUDDING?!?!
Thanks for linking the recipe!
I think we just found a possible remedy for the littler things causing sadness up above.
Yeah, it is quite possible.
Chocolate rice pudding? Yum! Can I dab some on my wrists? đ
Thanks for posting a link to the recipe! It sounds like a worthwhile weekend project. ????
I’m wearing Mary Greenwell Plum today, for the first time in a long time.
I wonder if Mary Greenwell is done with fragrance for good?
SOTD is Gucci’s Gucci III, perfect balance of woods, florals (tuberose, orris, Narcissus& Lily of the valley), aldehydes, greens and way down deep, a thick oakmossy green rose.
I love the tea pot linens pictured above, reminds me of my mom’s tea set. I really should get back to having a proper pot of afternoon tea.
I like them too, although I really don’t know why anybody calls a dish towel a tea towel — one of the smart people here probably knows. I do not usually need a dish towel when I’m making tea, or maybe there is some other reference I don’t get…
Itâs a bright but chilly day here, so No 5 Lâeau feels like a good choice. Seeing lots of Chanel today, so I am in good company!
Plans for the day include cooking up a big batch of Irish Beef Stew.
Hello house twin! We smell wonderful!
Thinking of finally buying that once Sephora has a discount or if they are doing triple points.
Yes, the 35 mL is super cute, just sayinâ. I got it wrong the other day when I mentioned it was 25 mL.
Wearing a teeny spray of Tom Ford’s Velvet Orchid. I have to keep my perfume down to a dab or tiny spray so I don’t get called down about it at work. As soon as I go home from work I spray myself abandonly.
Iâm taking same approach with my perfume wearing to the office. Is it an official policy where you work? Itâs not at my place but I have too sensitive co-workers.
We have a written policy but no one enforces it. That said , I always go for what I think are office safe perfumes.
Well… So far my NSFW perfumes happened to be: MdO Vanille, Puredistance WHITE and (this one I can understand) Guerlain Encens Mythique. And with none of them I did more than a couple of small sprays! So go figure đ
Ah, I wore 2 spritzers of Puredistance White had 2 of my co-workers trailing after me to waft in its goodness!
Breaking from the project today. Sotd is Prada Candy. Today is the day I will finish my bottle! It certainly is more of a fall winter scent, but I’ve worn it in all seasons.
Congrats on finishing a bottle! Candy is so good.
Thanks! I decided I won’t replace it. Hoping to find something new to fit in as an all purpose perfume. Although, lately Angel Muse has been filling in.
And I consider this a summer transitioning to fall perfume!
Wearing the remains of my Labo Patchouli 24 today. ItÂŽs gorgeous, and I might want some more….
Congratulations on passing your exam. That’s terrific news.
Thank you! I’m feeling ridiculously proud of myself. And I’m well aware that part of it is sheer luck, the text being about a subject I’m quite knowledgable about, but still, it feels good.
Luck + hard work = success. :-). And the harder you work the luckier you get!
Congrats on passing your exam. I know that you put a lot of work into achieving that.
I’m wearing Coromandel today. I dabbed some on and then I went back and dabbed some more on -it’s SO good.
I’ve never purchased anything from IKEA but have friends that fill their entire home with their stuff. I guess they deliver now but I always think of them as a store you need to visit to purchase. I should take a peek at what they’re offering these days.
Hi twin, or triplets with Luna Green!
Yay! Great minds!
All of you in Coromandel smell utterly divine.
I wore Coromandel for about a year from a dabber before I ever tried it sprayed. I still prefer it dabbed. Either way the drydown is the same, but spraying makes the opening quite different, and the one I prefer.
I’ll need to try it sprayed. It’s not a light fragrance, so I’ll do this on the weekend đ
What I said above makes no sense. lol. I prefer it dabbed – both in the opening and drydown. Spraying changes the opening, and I prefer it dabbed.
Thereâs a huge IKEA right off the NJ Turnpike in Elizabeth and I had never been because I am intimidated by the drive there. That said, years back, someone in this household bought a side table for the kitchen which I eventually commandeered as my work desk. It is deep enough to fit a printer, my large laptop, phone, wireless router modem and some office supplies.
I wonder if they still have childcare and Swedish meatballs?
Last time I ckecked they did. đ
Maybe Iâll get my brother-in-law to take a field trip there.
SOTM is LPRN Black Perfecto, waiting for the ice maker in my fridge to get repaired for the third time. Apparently, Frigidaire’s are prone to having the ice maker freeze up. The fix (finally) is a kit that moves the fan in the icemaker 4 inches forward into the compartment. We’ll see how it goes. The repair man, with whom I am now on a first name basis, says this is much more likely to work. This is the only extended warranty I have paid for, and it has been worth it.
Black Perfecto is reminding me some of Delices de Cartier. May have to do a side-by-side later on.
Oh, and those towels are so cute! Too bad they can’t be ordered online. The closest Ikea to me is in Frisco, TX, which is about 5-6 hours away.
Not worth the drive!
Don’t understand why Ikea is so behind with online sales.
Black perfecto is gorgeous, I haven’t smelled Delices de Cartier…could be an alternative for us US folks where black perfecto hasn’t been released yet. Let me know your side by side comparison
ah..i see there is some available online at discounters..so I guess people usa can get it
There are quite a few bottles on ebay as well.
I saw that too and very curious. Is it coming to the US any time soon?
You are right, Black Perfecto reminded me of something and it is Delices! The cherry note.
I’ll have to look into the Cartier…
That’s good to know since I have a Delices mini (for the mini bottle’s sake). The juice didn’t quite work for me.
Do you get black cherry from it? Or a marzipan/almond? I don’t get marzipan from Black Perfecto, but just read some reviews of Delices that mention it.
I don’t quite remember if the drydown was almondy, but I do remember thinking it smelled like cough syrup. I’ll have to retry later.
I get zippo marzipan đ but a hefty does of the cherry/ cough syrup…I like it but would also love a pure marzipan perfume…..
You crack me up ????
Me too! BTW Desert Essence Almond body lotion has a very strong cherry/almond smell, you can get it health food stores.
I only get the cherry, no marzipan or almond, moreâs the pity.
My Frigidaire’s ice maker was just replaced a few months ago after several attempts at repair. The new one is oddly noisy. I hope this is a final fix for you and that it doesn’t trouble you anymore!
Hm, hope I don’t wind up with a really noisy fridge, but it beats buying a new one.
Wearing Jo Malone Earl Grey & Cucumber layered over Kiehl’s Original Musk. It’s very nice đ
This is one of my favorites from Jo Malone. You must smell terrific.
Thank you! I love its slight raspiness đ
Ohh – I have both of these. I will add this to my potential layering list.
I almost never use Kiehl’s Original Musk on its own đ
Oh good combo! I have been layering anything and everything over Kiehl’s Original Musk and have yet to find a scent that doesn’t work with it.
That is how I feel about Dame Perfumery’s New Musk for Man oil đ Everything layers beautifully with it. Same with Black Flower Mexican Vanilla which can be used as a base as well.
Anytime a scent seems too thin/crisp for winter wear, Kiehl’s Original Musk comes to the rescue đ It hasn’t failed me yet either.
Idyllwild on right wrist and vintage Marbert Man (circa 1977) on sweater.
Wow, you stumped me on Marbert Man! I had to google.
I don’t know MM, but Idyllwild is great; hope you are enjoying it.
I had never heard of it either but it was a gift from my best friend. I actually like it better than the Idyllwild…it reminds me of something from my distant past (maybe something my father might have worn) and while I am a very petite “old” woman I am rocking it-LOL! (or at least I think I am!)…could be niche if you put it in a different bottle and marketed it the right way…it is an aromatic fougere with spices (so reminds me a bit of Old Spice) and it has oakmoss..pre-IFRA as it is circa 1977. I might just wear this one all week.
Idyllwild was my first purchase of the year and it is great. I hope to pick up a bottle of Field Notes From Paris. â€ïž
I like Idyllwild but I am happy to say I don’t need a bottle at the moment. I plan on re-testing when the weather is warmer. I have a bottle of Field Notes at home which “technically” does not belong to me but I am allowed to steal sprays. My absolute favorite of the line is Evening Edged in Gold…I have maybe ten sprays left in my bottle….such a gorgeous interpretation of angel’s trumpet and midnight candy (yes, that is a plant đ !!)
I have and love both Field Notes and Idyllwild.
Good morning, all. This is a stupidly early time to be up and doing, but Iâm missing the dear man and cannot sleep. The kittens (and one cat; must remember Ericâs new status) think my wakefulness is wonderful. Theyâve had a midnight-feast-in-the-dorm and now theyâre rioting from one end of the house to the other.
At 2.a.m. I did the ironing. At 3 a.m. I played âperfume shopâ. Itâs now just before 5, and I currently smell both confused and confusing, but quite delicious, if you take it all in carefully judged wafts. Left wrist is 1270, because, you know, I might have gone off it since a couple of weeks ago. Happily that is not the case, and its rich boozy fruitiness is gorgeous in this heat. I might wear it today, I think, and be damned to the temperature. Anyway. Left elbow is Immortelle de Corse. Lovely too. The hit of booze in the opening gives way to soft hay. More summery than 1270, less sophisticated, but perhaps more versatile. My right wrist is trumpeting âHere! Smell me!â Itâs the Jungle Elephant of course, and goodness, how I adore this perfume. All the spices, a hit of bracing camphor underneath, confident and big and loud and slightly clumsy, maybe, but utterly lovable. Then I have about twelve scarves that I have scented, and of these, my favourite is probably Sahara Noir, all dry and slightly harsh, but serene too.
If you canât sleep, there are worse things to do than playing perfume. Of course, there are better things too, but the dear one is 300 miles away ????…
I got the position of Deputy Head of School, though there are some formalities to go through with process still. It means less teaching for me, which makes me a bit sad, but more contact with a wider range of people in the university, and that promises to be rather interesting. There is a lot âA LOTâ going on in the school at the moment, so I wonât be bored. I just hope I can be effective. And on that note, my friends, I think I will go and see if I can shower off this melange of perfumes and get ready for the day. Oh, and I wonât wear 1270. It will be 31 Rue Cambon, my eternal, always right, favourite of the favourites.
Be well.
Congrats on your new position!
Oh, huge congratulations on your Deputy position!! The School can only be better for it.
And you smell fabulous, naturally.
Look at you! Wow, Congratulations!
Congratulations on your new positive: I hope youâll accomplish most of what you want to (and what a turn from almost retiring! đ ). I also wish you to go back to your regular night activities (like sleeping, maybe?).
Congratulations!
Hey that’s good news. Well done and what a lucky department.
Congratulations, Waterdragon!
Woot! Congratulations!
Congratulation on your new position, Waterdragon!
Congratulations, waterdragon! Not retiring suits you. I hope the dear man comes home soon!
Congratulations to you!
SotD = Insolence EdT because “why not?!”
Tra-la-la, I smell like L’Heure Bleue’s happy little sister. And the juice happens to match the color of my shirt.
Have a warm and wonderful day, NST.
Yay for insolence! Love that violet hairspray.
I love a good hairspray note! đ
You smell so happy !!!
Happy is the right word for Insolence. And the kooky bottle always makes me smile.
Glad you’re recovering well! Please take a nap for me when you have a chance. You deserve it. đ
Insolence is such a nice scent! You smell great!
Thanks, Barqs! Insolence is one scent I can always count on.
I’m slugging out Tuesday with Plum Japonais.
I hope the day brightens and spirits lift for everyone here.
And hope you’re winning Tuesday!
Random sample this AM… I’m in TF’s Neroli Portofino. Not a typical cold winter day scent for me. . . but sometimes you need a little summer glow off season. I really like this perfume but am appalled by the cost for fluffy neroli. The store sample was generous, but when it is gone, it will be gone baby gone.
It’s expensive as hell! It’s lovely, but seriously you can take a hard swipe left due to the price and get a cologne that is similiar, like 4771 or Bois Blondes!
YUP đ
I agree. Haven’t tried Bois Blonds, but my cheap go-to fave citrus is Hermes’ d’Orange Vert Concentre (which still goes for a song on discount sites).
OMG, Orange Vert is the unisex BOMB, and you can a big ole bottle to wear all spring/summer. I love it on a guy and a gal alike!
While I like many TFâs scents, most of his âcitrus-yâ ones just do not seem substantial enough to justify the price.
But if you like it otherwise and would want to wear, you can probably find a good-priced split of it in one of FBâs groups.
I find the same with the citrus-y scents BUT they do come back with skin heat so???? I would still spring for a lower price citrus based fragrance.
I’m wearing Malin+Goetz Cannabis. Love it!
Does it smell like its’ name ?
IF you have ever been in an apartment where people burned incense after smoking pot, then it’s that smell- citrussy, patchouli, warmed a bit with some vanilla (?) and a tiny bit of resin.
Wearing Shalimar Ode a la Vanille today since it is cold and snowing outside. A little later today I will travel to Walgreens for my dog’s medication.
which version the mexique or the madagascar
I have the Mexique version. The Madagascar version is impossible to find for a reasonable price or sellers are mislabeling the Mexique as the Madagascar version.
Last two days of Chanuary. Today I am wearing a mini of Beige and tomorrow is Misia.
Next month is Iris fest, as discussed on Undinaâs blog. I have a ton more iris scents than Chanels, so this is going to be easy (well, unless I get overwhelmed or bored with the single not). There may be a number of iris-adjacent scents to break the monotony.
Looking forward to seeing what Iris’s you will be wearing! And you smell beautiful in Beige!
Have you tried Feu Secret? If so, what do you think? I may have to visit The Big City to try this one because I lurve BF and Iris????????
No, I bought it blind and will wear it for the first time in February!
Iâm also taking these last days to wear something Not iris-centric. Weâll see how 28 days of irises go – with RĂŽses it wasnât an issue last year.
I will also try for the full 28 days without repeating.
Wearing Le Labo Vetiver Oil today.
I had surgery on Friday, and wanted something to blast the cobwebs from my brain. It is working. đ
How are you feeling? Hugs
Surprisingly good, but so very tired!
I could sleep for a week, but needless to say, won’t get the chance to do so.
Your body has to put all its energy into recovering. Hang in there!
Hope you have a speedy recovery!
Take a good week off, anesthesia and surgery require rest and recovery!
Happy Croissant Day aka my new favorite holiday! đ
SOTD is The Body Shop Red Musk.
I still have a bottle of citronella essential oil available from the freebiemeet, if anyone’s interested.
It would be my favorite holiday if I had any croissants!
Croissant day is in April in Montreal. They sell them for $1.25 and the best croissant place in the city is 4 blocks from my house!
Robin, you smell wonderful! ????
Iâm in an unplanned pairing. I started with a sample of Diptyque Vetyverio which is okay, and I expect it would bloom nicely in warm weather, but after I sprayed I kept searching for it. I hastily sprayed Adam Levin for Her with fingers crossed that it works together. I canât really smell the Vetyverio so I guess Iâm safe for the day. Note to self, donât try a new fragrance or combo when you are rushing out door!
Update…now that Iâve had sometime to sit with this I can smell the Vetyverio. Itâs not terrible but I would not intentionally layer these two again!
Sorry! Layering doesn’t always work.
And thanks for the JM idea, I really hadn’t worn this in ages.
I’m definitely on a spring side of the fence today.
Succus from Liquides Imaginaires is my SotD and I just can’t believe how well it evokes a forest crown with its branches and rustling leaves.
I think that was my favorite from the line. Is that the one that smells like sappy leaves?
Maybe? To me it smells like the air brushing through the tree crowns. It’s very fresh, green with a lot of sage.
Wearing LAP Passage d’Enfer on my body and LAP Saffron Troublant on my wrists. The latter is growing on me. It has an almost medicinal smell which I hated at first.
You smell great, Suzy Q!
Stop the presses! The sun is OUT! I feel like letting my frizzy, messy bun down, ripping off my clothes, and dashing through a flower filled meadow, while my happy little four legged friend leaps up to say hello to high flying butterflies!
SOTD is SB Smoked Ambergris. Hoping all who are feeling less than exuberant are getting a little pick me up from their chosen selection of perfumes. â????
Plan for the day is to try out my little kick scooter (which I got after my bike went missing), hoping I have found a way to get T-Rex on a beefier exercise routine. Thumbs up for not breaking a hip, leg, arm, or the old nogginâ! ????
It’s sunny(ish) here, too. We’ll see how long it sticks around. Are you starting to understand why some of us have no sympathy when others complain about too much heat and sun? đ
I’m curious about Smoked Ambergris. I usually love smoke in perfumes unless it goes too much in the BBQ direction. And maybe one day I will actually buy some SB samples, after having up loaded multiple carts at his site for years now…
I watched The Empire of Scents (documentary) on Netflix this weekend. I was surprised that most people interviewed pronounced ambergris as *amber griss.* I’ve always said *amber gree.* Who’s right? Anyone know?
Good luck with the scooter! I don’t think I could even stand up straight on one, much less ride it đ
I like it a lot. Full bottle consideration. I donât get any b-b-q at all. Itâs more of a *sweetish* incensy smoke. No relation to campfires or food, at least on me. You should really pull the trigger on some 3 ml samples. They are fun and many are really unique and interesting. I do believe itâs pronounced amber-greee, since I *think* the word is French, no? Maybe one of the academics could chime in with an authoritative answer…?
This academic is jumping into the forum with her Google-researched answer–EITHER! Ambergris or ambergris. Old English from Old French ambre gris âgrey amberâ, as distinct from amber jaune âyellow amberâ (the resin). (Oxford Dictionaries)
Yay! An authoritative answer that makes everyone correct! How often does THAT happen ????????
This academic is jumping into the forum with her Google-researched answer–EITHER! Ambergris or ambergree. Old English from Old French ambre gris âgrey amberâ, as distinct from amber jaune âyellow amberâ (the resin). (Oxford Dictionaries)
I have that in my Netflix cue…good to know it is worthwhile to watch…I say amber-gree….and I also assume it is a French word….
It’s worth watching, I guess, but not at all perfume-centered.
Ha I’ve always said gree, but have recently heard others say griss. So of course I second guessed myself and started saying it the other way. Maybe I should go back to gree…
Can compromise with “grease”!
Smoked Ambergris is one of my favourites. Have lots of fun today.
We did have fun- no broken bones is a plus! The best part was the fact that everyone seemed to get a real kick out of seeing an old grey haired lady on a kick scooter wearing flannel shirt, ripped jeans, and Vans while a crazy speckled dog hopped around like a circus animal. We must have been a real sight because we left everyone laughing ????
This visual image made me smile. đ
Hello all-
Testing out spring in Prada Iris- very fresh for today! We had a clearing of blue sky this morning. It won’t last, but the smell of fresh washed air and plants poking through was perfect.
Nice!
I seemed to have made the wrong perfume choice today, at least in my application method. I’m wearing FM Superstitious, which I’d previously only worn by dabbing and really enjoyed. Today I sprayed, and probably one spray too many. It’s giving me a terrible headache, and I can’t wait for it to calm down some.
Adding insult to injury, I just yesterday stepped up to claim the last 15ml decant of one and the same perfume based on how much I liked it dabbed on. Poor decision making when it comes to perfume impulses.
I don’t know when the next swap meet is, but the 15ml will be offered up. Let me know if anyone is interested at this point, though I don’t think I’ll have the decant for at least another month or two.
Superstitious did not resonate with me either đ
Me either, and mine will probably go up for swap as well. I feel like I should try it again, but my first outing with it was unpleasant enough that I’m not terribly eager to give it another go.
I think I’m one of the few people that really likes it alot. Agreed though, that it can not be oversprayed. I do two half sprays. Also I think it requires one to be in the right mood for.
I had a hard time with that one, too. And I sprayed it on skin first at the store before spraying a card, thinking I’d love it. Have you tried Arquiste Ella? It reminds me of a friendlier version of Superstitious. And I love that one.
Yeah, I tried Ella and it was just ok on me, so I swapped my decant away. I will try again with Superstitious but with dabs only.
My ears just perked up????
I have had that happen! Simple solution: decant into a splash container & go back to dabbing.
Yeah I might dig the little black screw top cap from the trash when I get home from work. If it’s not gross I’ll just wipe it down and screw it back on! I hope I’m not too traumatized from the headache to wear it again.
I would happily swap *for* Superstitious đ
Email me! Gmail at my NST username.
Parfum d’Empire Ambre Russe.
Nice! Thatâs a heavy hitter on me, but Iâm cold weather, hits all the right buttons. You smell greatâ????
*in cold weather
Oooh nice!!
I need to find my sample of Ambre Russe, i tried it in fall but it was still warmer then and I suspect it will work even better in cold weather (what Deva says đ
Hello, all! I’m starting to get over my cold đ This is the first day I’ve woken up in a week not feeling like I should just quit my job in order to stay in bed full-time.
Croissant Day!!! I think I’ve already told you wonderful people that I recently found the first acceptable croissant and baguette place in the US. I’m ridiculously excited. They’re not even amazing; they’re just good enough to be worth eating. I don’t understand how American bakeries can be so good at silly breads (you know, cheesy bread, olive bread, cranberry walnut bread) and SO BAD and just simple bread. What do the French bakers know that American ones don’t? It doesn’t make sense to me, but at least I’ve finally found croissants and baguettes I like (for $4 each, ie, ~4x as much as they cost in France, but whatever).
SOTD is Ancient Resins, from an incredibly kind NSTer. It’s kind of confusing because the dominant note I get from it is black pepper. I think I will enjoy using up my sample like a perfume, but will probably not follow it up with a bottle. I tend to use body oils all over, and I’m not sure I want to smell like black pepper from head to toe.
Real croissants are available in Menlo Park as well as on Arguello in SF.
Thatâs so exciting! Where in MPK?
Colette on Santa Cruz. Just try not to be in front of me in the line, OK?
Oh, I think thereâs a Colette in Palo Alto now, too! I might check that one out first đ (Iâm down at Stanford quite often, so it will be easier for me to get to!) thanks for the tip!
I do love croissants, my favorite French bakery in SF (on Fillmore) closed down aeons ago, their almond croissants were stellar.
That bakery was so good! Sad they closed down.
Happy to hear that you are starting to feel like yourself again! I’m still waiting for the dreaded winter cold to hit my household. It seems like February and March are the most likely times of year for that. đ
Thanks! I’ll keep my fingers crossed that it won’t strike your household đ
A drought has been declared down our way and as a result of the constant high temperatures ( high 30s/high 90s) and lack of rain the farmers are selling their stock and so yesterday there was a steady stream of sheep trucks going through town, filling the air with that dense greasy wool and rich, almost-ambergris smell. Most of the sheep are heading for greener pastures (literally). I absent mindedly sprayed mitsuoko and it was incredible in the heat. I always think of it as being on the heavy side but it was sparkly and quite fresh at first and then becoming like a beautiful forest floor. Another stinking hot day but a lunar eclipse tonight so I will sleep outside. Keep warm up there!
I would gladly send you some of our rain! I hope you get some soon.
Very cloudy here right now, but Iam hoping it will clear soon for the blue moon and eclipse on the California coast.
Iâm doing the happy ????????for being house twins with Robin!
SOTD = Jo Malone Myrrh & Tonka
This so so good and lasts long for a Jo Malone. Of course it could be because I used a heavy hand – 6 sprays – go big or go home!
This is good by itself but I am thinking that I may want to layer it with something. Perhaps a vanilla? (I am getting chills thinking about layering this with Indult Tihota).
Commuting Woes No. 406:
Yup, I knew it will happen one day and today was the day. I had previously lamented that people trying to get on the train tend to not let people out first before piling in. This morning I was tryig to get out of a train behind a guy who was also trying to get out. An equally heavy-set guy tried to push his way in and must have shoved the guy in fromt of me a little too hard and they came to blows. I feinted right really quickly and manged to avoid the melee. There was a lot of shouting and I donât know if there was additional shoving. The incident lasted less than 30 seconds. One of the guys involved ended up in the same train I transferred to and he was still muttering and cursing. It could have been worse!
Looking forward to the State of the Union address by POTUS. I was originally going to miss the first half hour due to a meeting with a colleague in Asia but an earlier meeting got rescheduled and I rescheduled mine to tomorrow. I have the DVR set for good measure.
Commuting would make me stick a fork in my eye. You are made of strong stuff, not to mention quick reflexes. Seems like one sees the worst of human nature, compressed into a confined space. Glad all it amounted to was a bit of posturing. And, you smell FABULOUSâ????
Thank you. I havenât worn this in a while and have the cute 50 mL as the BUB although technically, because I split off a good portion of the 100 mL, the 50 doesnât count as a BUB.
Hey house twin!!
Glad you did not get knocked over, or worse.
Luck all around as the last thing anyone needed was âdelay due to police activityâ
I would say that you commute with ALL the crazies, but I know that can’t be possible. There have to be some nice people (besides you), right?
Just some :-). Itâs a huge mass transit footprint!
You smell great! Glad to hear you were able to dodge the fray. I fear being pushed onto the tracks.
Thank you. I usually (but really should ALWAYS) stand by the wall instead of 2 feet from the edge of the track!
SotD is Satori, by parfum Satori.
From a sample.
Woods, incense, spices. Its beautiful and soft / quiet. Maybe even too modest for office….saving the remains of my sample for a quiet sunday afternoon while drawing or reading a book. đ
Never heard of Mr. Korematsu. I love to learn new things! đ
Wearing Keiko Mecheri Mulholland. I found a small box of samples in the back of my closet that I had long forgotten about, and was happy to dig this one out this AM. It’s really great!
Robin, you smell AMAZING! That’s one of my favorite Jo Malone’s. I wore it last week. So excited to see what the new released 2018 fragrances from the line will be like! Keeping fingers crossed.
My SOTD is IKat Jasmine from Aerin Lauder. I was inspired to wear it today because I was watching a YouTuber this weekend that was bragging on the AL line, so I decided to put some on. Her new one “Hibiscus Palm” was described as the the classier, more grown – up version of Bronze Goddess. So, I may check this one out.
Well then I might have to check out Hibiscus Palm too, that sounds not bad at all.
Scent twins with Robin today in JM Dark Amber and Ginger Lily. Just loving this one this winter! A lovely SA at the Jo Malone counter recommended layering this over the JM Orange Blossom (and provided me with a generous sample, as well as 3 others from the line) and I do like the 2 together, as well. Sort of adds a light floral front end to the fragrance, as you might expect. Still and all, it’s heaven on its own. Good Tuesday all, and happy vibes for all those who are not feeling it today : )
Hey twin!
Hey there! Have you tried layering it with anything? I’m usually not one to layer, and given how much I like Dark Amber and Ginger Lily alone, there’s really no need for me to. I will probably use up the sample of Orange Blossom with it but most likely wouldn’t go to the expense of a full bottle.
I really haven’t — I like it alone just fine. Sorry I’m no help!
Today I’m wearing a bright red dress, with a pattern of large coloured ants – I’m not at all sure what perfume goes with that! Maybe something floral for the ants to enjoy. They might like Patou’s 1000 đ
Oh, that sounds fun!
That dress sounds great! I was thinking the perfume I wore yesterday (Hendley Amora) needs bright, fun prints to go with it.
Sounds whimsical – maybe CdG or Marc Jacobs?
For the first time, probably, Iâm a twin with Robin: wearing Jo Malone Dark Amber & Ginger Lily (I was also reminded of it yesterday by Nightingale but went with Tiempe Passate). My decant of the original one went off some time ago but I canât smell any difference from the mini bottle of the re-issued version – so Iâm enjoying it on a sunny but not too warm yet day.
Hey, we are triplets!
Wondering if this group has experience with fragrant deoderants? Positive? Neutral?
Looking at declaration and Eau de campagne at discounters for men in my life – are they basically lighter version than cologne – or different animal?
But, also interested in other lines as well…thank you!
I have Mitsouko deodorant- smells like the perfume but not strong at all. I think it would be nice on a man. I also have Declaration shower gel which is citrusy but has none of the spicy notes – maybe the deodorant is also a toned down version of the perfume (which I love).
Thanks Bastet!
Donna Karan Cashmere Mist stick deodorant is awesome. They sell it at Sephora and Nordstrom. I buy the specially priced 3 pack at the Nordies anniversary sale every year.
Ooooh, thank you cazaubon!
Today’s random draw from the sample cup: amber fetiche, by Annick Goutal, which is a delightful amber, but I am not current picking up any “fetiche.”
Hello, house twin!
I have a decant of this from a perfumista blogger friend, you know who you are!
Wearing Au Coeur du Desert, thanks to Bill and bastet pointing me to it. I’m not sure I’ve worn this one outside of summer until today. I’ve worn 5 (Tauers within the past week – PHI (which I wore on Friday for Winter Faves but didn’t post,) When We Cuddle, Amber Flash, and Vanilla Flash, and it’s fun to smell the commonalities between them. When I sprayed ACdD this morning I got little whiffs of a note I also get from PHI, which I’d never noticed before.
Other than that, not a great day. I was awakened at 2 a.m. with cramps, after just having fallen asleep, then woke up 4.5 hours later. Then while making my first cup of coffee, I started to pass out. I wasn’t sure what was going on until I realized the pain from my lower back is causing such massive tension everywhere else that it makes it hard to take anything but shallow breaths.
My back has really been a mess of late, and getting worse by the week, but unfortunately my chiropractor/McKenzie method/ART practitioner is now an hour drive away. Since I saw him last, I’ve been diagnosed with endometriosis (after 30 years of complaints to doctors pretty much describing textbook endometriosis, someone finally took my concerns seriously. Imagine that.) I’m curious to get his feedback/input now that I *officially* have a chronic pain syndrome, but 2 hours of driving for a 15 minute appointment is just not gonna work for me.
Anyway, hope Monday’s little sister is going better for others, though I see that a lot of us are suffering from winter blues and worse. Here’s to things getting better. At least we smell beautiful even if we don’t feel it!????????????
Oh dear, that sounds dreadful. I do hope you get it sorted out somehow.
I am so sorry to hear you are in such a bad pain. I hope you can solve it soon. Feel better!
I also had a super dismissive experience with pelvic pain a while back. And primarily from female doctors, which really challenged all my preconceived notions. Hope you can get some relief soon! Back pain is no fun ???? You do smell pretty super, though ????
Oh, yes. It’s woman doctors who’ve been the most dismissive. But also woman doctors who’ve been some of my favorite care providers, so there you go.
Hope you got your issue worked out, despite the strike outs getting there đ
Thatâs terrible – I hope you find relief and the medical help that you need
I hope you can get some relief soon!
So sorry to hear this. I hope you can find long term relief. In the short term, can I recommend extensive stretching which might help a bit with the muscle tension. And maybe massage therapy?
I have a series of stretches that my chiropractor has worked out for me. (If I did them more regularly I wouldn’t be in the state I’m in now, possibly, though the lower back pain is referred from cramps.) It helps a lot.
That sounds horrible, i hope you can work towards a solution and some relief now the diagnosis is ‘official’ (so weird and sad it took them that long to ‘find out’).
It has been a gloomy day, weather-wise, in my area. First not quite rain (not heavy enough), then some light snow. Nuisance precipitation really… just enough to annoy people.
SOTD = AG Encens Flamboyant. Another bottle that REALLY ought to be worn more than it has been.
Ha! Yes, ânuisance precipitationâ is a perfect way to describe todayâs weather.
Thank goodness it ended up being light snow.
