Happy Almost-Friday and happy Opposite Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Imaginary Authors Mosaic, from my Top 10 of Summer 2017.
Reminder: on 1/26, wear one of your "top 10 of winter" fragrances (unless it's summer where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of summer" scents)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Today’s SOTD for today’s rainy SF weather is Laura Mercier’s Minuit Enchanté, with incense, spice, woods and resins. Wafting powdery comfort today. 🙂
Ooh that sounds amazing!
It was nice stuff. (Even for an oriental-avoider like me.) Unfortunately limited edition and very hard to find now.
It was! The dry down is among my top snuggly scents I own (Dior Addict & SL’s Un Bois Vanille). I was fortunate to snag a bottle before it left the Laura Mercier counters. If it were available, I would have purchased the tester bottle.
I tried shamelessly begging and groveling but the SA refused to take pity on me!
I have always been interested in that one. Alas, it is no longer available.
SOTD is my newest ‘top 10 of winter’ fragrance, Guerlain’s Baiser de Russie (aka Les Voyages Moscow). Frankly, this likely will be a top 10 for me in spring and fall as well!
I just noticed a fuller list of notes on Mimifroufrou.com that I haven’t seen anywhere else: “Top notes of bergamot, plum, pine needle, lemon, and absinthe seguing into a heart of cranberry and jasmine petals. The base features caramel, sandalwood, tonka bean, white musks and vanilla.”
I am so so jealous of your SOTD
All the talk about this one has turned me into a lemming. MUST. SNIFF.
Wow, that sounds good.
Sounds wonderful! Hopefully one of the sample/decant sites has it.
Beautiful!
PSA – I will split this during SplitMeet!
Intriguing. Enough people have gushed about this that I may have to go in on a blind split.
SOTD Amouage Bracken Woman, from a sample vial. It’s weird and lovely- lots of herbal notes, sharp and green at the beginning mellowing out with lily becoming prominent after about an hour or so. I like it!
I adore this one. It is the 1st Amouage I actually purchased a FB of.
You smell wonderful
I love it too.
It is weird and lovely! I have it on my back burner list, waiting for a heavily discounted bottle. Meanwhile I have a decant.
I’m wearing one of my favourite fragrances for winter: Vamp à New York, it never fails to lift my spirits or make the weather seem slightly less gloomy.
I think I like Vamp best in summer. You are right, it is such a cheerful, spirit-lifting scent.
I wear it all year round, but I did buy on a gloomy January day, in 2011’ish or so.
Yesterday I left the house without perfume OR coffee and my day just fell apart. Today I am in BFMV and hoping that things go better!
TGIAF!
“Yesterday I left the house without perfume OR coffee”…
I’m sorry, you did what ??!!
Hope today is much better, ad I recommend you try the BFMV hair oil too – heady stuff
Oh my golly. I hope you had coffee too.
The coffee part would most definitely destabilize me! I usually keep some perfume samples floating in my bag just in case. Hope your day goes well today!
Same as Elisa, no perfume I could probably survive since I have a couple of back-up vials in my purse. But no coffee?! I shudder at the thought! Hope today started better 🙂
That is a recipe for tragedy. So sorry that happened to you. ????
Wow… your day yesterday sounded like a rough one. No repeat today, I hope!
SOTD is Oha from Teo Cabanel from a sample. Someone mentioned it yesterday and I immediately felt like trying it. Its a nice and simple scent, Im enjoying it a lot. I much prefer Alahine and have been seeking an old version bottle on Ebay but no luck….
I have a question for you perfume beloved people, in April Im going to Marrakech, what should I buy there apart from rosewater and argan oil? Any special tips?
Spices !!!!
The souks are amazing for foodstuffs.
!!!!!!!!!!! I would so love to go to Marrakech. Non-rose waters, too! Face muds, if you’re into those. And YES to spices! Get ALL THE SAFFRON! I am so envious.
Lucky you! Eat all the foods!
SOTD Oriza L Legrand Jardins d’Armide. Rose/violet/iris rice powder. Kind of retro and romantic. Feeling purdry today ????
Also have a spritz of MCG Burlesque on the back of my hand for comparison. The Oriza is more rose/violet heavy, a littles sweeter, and slightly less powdery. I really like both.
I love Oriza L Legrand, and Jardins d’Armide is very lovely.
It is lovely and I love their packaging and aesthetic. But if I were to own either I’d go for Burlesque as it’s less sweet and strikes me as slightly more sophisticated (and 15ml bottles!)
But no tassles 😉
Haha! True. I can add my own ????
Wearing Lancome Cuir today.
I debated between this and Chanel Cuir de Ruisse EDT, and finally went with the Lancome.
I love Cuir de Lancome and prefer it to Cuir… you smell great.
Thanks for the spices tip!
I am a cooking fanatic, and a friend recently returned from Turkey with so many spices. We have had a blast with them
You could not smell better! 🙂
Wonderful SOTD! Waft on!
SOTD is Vol de Nuit extrait, for a day that’s going to be rainy and even thunder-y later on.
You are smelling amazing. May I ask where you found the extrait?
Sure – a very kind NSTer who already had a supply of her own spotted one of the cube-style tester bottles on ebay and pointed me at it. I took a few days to make up my mind because it was a lot (of dollars, and a fair amount of extrait), but in the end I decided that, per ml, it was a very fair price, and I love VdN enough that I’d likely wear it to the dregs of the bottle. No regrets!
Great find! Thank you. I will keep my eye out.
Enjoy your treasure!
That sounds absolutely magical!
I didn’t realize it was Opposite Day, so I’m in another winter favorite: traversee du bosphore.
I had no idea it was going to be opposite day, so good thing I did not plan my fragrance in advance! You smell fabulous.
For me TdB is a summer fragrance: I always wear it on tropical vacations. I’m not sure I’ve ever tried it in winter.
You smell great!
Wearing Narcisco Rodriguez For Her (black bottle, which is the edt, I think?), one of my few cold weather ONLY scents. In the winter I find this quite sexy, but in warm weather it smells insipid bordering on unpleasant to me. Gotta wear it while I can . . .
My husband and I are hooked on the Netflix show Dark if anyone needs something to watch. I recommend skipping the dubbing (it’s in German) and just turning on the subtitles (assuming you don’t speak German). Happy Thursday!
On the list! Thanks!
Great show!!
I’ve heard it’s excellent! It’s on my watch list!
Chai tea this morning and having a little tea adventure.. my neighbors from Tokyo recommended a great place to buy green tea, and also they offer some to buy and taste. Super excited!
Read a great article on child rearing in this weeks New Yorker , it spoke to me, I listened
Ravi Shankar playing today
Bundle up New Yorkers!
What fun, do report back on the tea!
Fun on the tea adventure! You guys are going to push me down the tea rabbit hole. Eventhough I’m not really a tea drinker, this place in my neighborhood has caught my eye. Haven’t been yet but I had a cup of their Hindu Holiday tea at a nearby restaurant and asked what brand it was. I’ll have to make a trip to the shop soon. Website is pretty.

New-ish Chant d’Aromes, a lovely and springy aldehydic floral. For some reason the heart has a ten minute phase where it smells like citronella, but after that it’s all smooth Guerlanade. I found a bottle of vintage extrait a few months ago so I got a really inexpensive new bottle to compare. Still haven’t opened the extrait though.
I’ve only tried the recent EdT, and I love it.
I am actually participating in opposites day by wearing Balle de Match. Not having known it was opposites day, I chose to wear it to get a break from the heavy orientals that I’ve been wearing this week. This is one of my favorite citrus scents. I believe it is still in production, but it’s called L’Eau de Sport. I’ve also just bought my second full bottle of the year – Batucada. One of the 1.7 oz. bottle that L’Artisan is no longer producing. I got it for $30 from eBay.
You smell wonderful — one of my favorites too.
I am feeling the need for a break from winter perfumes too!
I had to take a break from heavy scents last week. Totally understand the feeling.
A bit of sun today (which is DEFINITELY the opposite of the gray pattern we have been in) so I greeted it with a splash of green with Xinu’s Monstera.
My cat was running around but found the sunbeam and curled up for her first nap of the day! ☀️☀️????☀️☀️
How adorable! Sounds like a nice, cozy morning 🙂
Monstera is interesting, and I love the Xinu bottles!
I have a shelf that would be perfect for all four.
I adore those bottles! Did you order Monstera directly from their website or from Luckyscent?
Cold and windy today. Perfect for Phi Une Rose de Kandahar. Another of my top 10 for winter. TGIAF. Stay warm everyone!
You smell great! (and I’m trying to listen to myself to see if I want to wear it today as well)
Hope we are twins today. 😉
Yum! One of my favorites as well. I don’t wear it as often as I should, I think because I keep it in the tin it came in and I often overlook it when I’m trying to decide SOTD. You smell great, of course✌????
Same here. I wish to wear it more often, but I keep forgetting about it. That happens to all my Tauers. As you say it might happen because of the tins.
I hope that you are warm today. It’s kind of raw out there.
I am! Fortunately I did not have to work outside this week. That is a relief!
Staring at spreadsheets all day today. Thank goodness for Mitzah.
I wore Mitzah last week (a tiny amount, not to scare co-workers) and enjoyed it. You smell very nice! Good luck with spreadsheets.
Thanks!
Sorry you are staring at spreadsheets! Luckily, it seems, with Opposite Day, I got an unexpected day off so have a reprieve from my daily dose of spreadsheets. There was a water pipe that broke in the office building and flooded the bottom floor including the server room. Yikes!
I am freshly showered with Lush Don’t Rain on My Parade and will spray myself with SL Bois de Violette.
I want to say yay, but that sounds like the sort of situation that may end up being more trouble than fun in the long run. Yikes! Nonetheless, enjoy your day off. 🙂
My eyes crossed just reading that first sentence. ????
Bond de Isle from an old sample I really want this one or 31 rue cambon (pardon spelling) I am told I do not have to brave chanel but can go to neiman marcus now so maybe I will work the bravery and the funds
Bois des Iles? It is worth braving the store 🙂
Up at 5:30 this morning, and at work since 7. Happily, I’m wearing Jubilation 25 to keep me going. My sample is almost done, I think there’s only about one spritz left…
Smelling fantastic!
If you have tried Beloved, how do you think they compare? It’s hard to tell based on online reviews
Coin-op, I have not smelled Beloved, so can’t make a comparison…
They don’t smell alike at all. Jub 25 is a woody chypre-oriental in the vein of Rochas Femme but woodier and richer. Beloved is a sweet/herbal abstract floral. Though they don’t smell alike, I’d say it’s kind of Chanel no 5 in the abstract floral kind of way.
Ok, thank you – I have smelled Gold – which reminded me a little of No.5 in the floral abstract way as well – would you say gold and beloved are more similar?
Possibly just in genre. Beloved is low in the aldehydes and tamer, less grand maybe. I honestly can’t think of something to which it smells similar right now. I’ve smelled quite a few Amouages and I have to say no 2 have smelled alike to me. I really like Beloved btw. Super pretty and interesting.
Yes, but Gold is soapier on me.
Hey a Coin-op. I gave a FB of Beloved and would be happy to send you a decant if you are in the continental US? If so email me at llombardi where the males are hot.
BTW, I love it. I great a lovely chamomile note in the opening that really does it for me. It is super pretty and elegant.
I’m in Mahora from a mini I got for a song on ebay. I’ve been curious about this one–a Guerlain with absolutely zero love as far as I can tell. Well, it does not smell like a Guerlain. No Guerlainade so far at least. It is a white flower/tuberose powerhouse… swings tropical. Fragrantica lists almond blossom among the notes. Not sure I am picking up anything particularly almondy. It doesn’t smell niche really. If I had to guess what I’d guess if someone had me sniff this blindfolded, I’d say it was a mainstream designer scent from the late 1980s or early 1990s. A 2000 Guerlain? Nope, would not have thunk it.
I have huge love for Mahora! It is a BWF, that’s for sure! If you’d like a decant, let me know.????
Thank you. I will keep that in mind! For now I have a full mini which seems like it will go a long way. Gosh I do love the bottle though! Even my mini is done very well–doesn’t look like a toy but like a real perfume flacon.
Right now the drydown shares a lot with Fracas–at least that is what I am getting this round. I will test it more in the coming weeks. I am so glad you love this one. Such a beautiful bottle, such excellent pedigree, and so much vavavoom!!!!
And I agree, it doesn’t not feel like a Guerlain.
Mainstream 80s! It reminded me a lot of Loulou but I like Loulou more.
Ah Loulou!!! That brings back some memories (with an 80’s soundtrack too).
Is Guerlain niche? Hmm.
SOTM is Angel Muse. Have to go pick up my car from the shop yesterday. They had it all day yesterday and only did the diagnostic. Never called to ask if they should actually repair it. Grrr! I got a free loaner last night after pitching a fit. Fortunately, the repair won’t be expensive. I might wait until after my swim to go get it, though.
GAH on the “oh, duh, you actually wanted us to fix it?” thing. Over the past week I have spent close to 15 hours getting various vehicles serviced (husband’s. son’s. daughter’s. MIL’s.) and/or picking people up from the garage.
I mean, it took the Serious Repair Shop in town more than 10 days to repair the 1998 Ranger Taz drives to high school — but the truck is older than he is, and the holdup was getting parts for the thing. One thing good about a small town is usually that people talk, and poor customer service is killer on things like garages.
Hope your car is fixed soon!
Smelling divine in Angel Muse!
House of Matriarch Devotion because a hit of smoky frankincense always appeals to me in cold weather.
Me too — I should try that one.
SotD is Vetiver blanc, sultan pasha attars. Its a real beauty…everytime I wear it I am kind of awestruck.
Tuberose and vetiver…yesss awesome, but the ambergris is the star addition that makes this scent glow!
During my lunchbreak I tried Etui Noir, from Miller Harris.
Leather, iris and incense.
Not bad…not bad at all.
Another MH I have not tried, it does sound nice !
I’m in Paul Schutze Tears of Eros. Actually wearing it for the first time. It’s OK but has something that annoys me & after some time I felt disturbed by this perfume.
You keep wearing perfumes I haven’t even heard about. But judging from your impression, I can skip this one 🙂
I think you can 😉 The brand of Paul Schutze is new to me as well.
Hmmmm. I really like Tears of Eros, but haven’t worn it in a while. What’s bugging you about it?
It kind of develops an ‘old flower vase water’ that weirdly makes me think of rotting seaweed.
I feel disturbed by the name 😉
Wearing one of my top ten. Wearing Box of Eels. I had a craving for sandalwood this morning.
Oh, that one is perfect in all situations. You smell great????
YUM! ????
Ormonde Jayne Champaca and drinking a cup of black tea
I love Champaca! It’s on my FB list. You smell lovely.
Champaca and tea go well together. You smell great!
That sounds very elegant.
You smell wonderful!
I meant this comment for Petunia.
Box of Eels is a nice one to have in your top ten list 🙂
Thanks Barqs! You smell lovely today too!
SotD = Clinique Wrappings
Mossy woods and lemon-lime aldehydes make Wrappings wonderful for this cold, crisp morning.
I’m thankful it’s Thursday. Have a good one, NST!
That sounds so good!
I bought my first bottle of Wrappings right after Christmas and I love it! I’d be happy to send you some to try: gee-mayle me at my avatar name.
Love it! Smells like clarity to me; the world is bracing and scrubbed fresh. Wore it on Christmas and on a long weekend to Joshua Tree.
Joshua Tree, whoa, that has to be the perfect backdrop for wearing Wrappings. 🙂
That sounds lovely. Will try to sniff one of these days.
I’d be happy to send you some to try. Drop me a ghee mhale at my avatar name.
I gave in to temptation and bought the Wrappings gift set for myself at Christmas. Such a lovely winter scent.
good for you! I got the set too. I really like the scented lotion. 😉
Tiffanie, you smell fabulous!! I don’t find it especially Christmas-y; I think it’d be good any time of year.
I think someone else here wanted to try Wrappings. Was it SpringPansy? Maybe she’ll turn up soon…
It was me.
Oh! Glad you spoke up! Please drop me a line: my gravatar at geeee maaaiilll.
Thanks, FearsMice! Agree that Wrappings smells wonderful and is not just for December. It is new to me so I’m looking forward to wearing it spring, summer, and fall, too. 🙂
Testing Anima Vinci Wood of Life by Michel Roudnitska. It’s supposed to contain some unusual Brazilian ingredients, piri-piri (the root, not the chili peppers) and palo santo, plus cinnamon and notes that give it a pleasant freshness. I’m not sure how much I like it, but I did feel attracted to put it on again today after wearing it last night.
I ordered the Anima Vinci sample set after reading this review of the launch by the Candy Perfume Boy:
https://thecandyperfumeboy.com/2017/11/28/perfume-review-anima-vinci/
The shipping cost gave me pause, but I will say it came very carefully packed, and the presentation is lovely.
Sounds fantastic. I’ve seen this line and the bottles are beautiful. Thanks for the tip and I’m gonna need to check it out.
I’ve been wanting to devote periods of time to specific houses so I don’t neglect my bottles. Now I’m going to do it, I made up a schedule and everything. Starting with Jo Malone for these first two weeks.
Blackberry and Bay Shower Oil
Golden Needle Tea (which is great for winter)
Nice! Looking forward to seeing how well you manage 🙂 I keep trying to do this and failing completely after the first few days.
Sounds like a fun project! Who makes your tea?
Thanks! Actually—the tea was my perfume. That’s the name of it. BUT when the rare tea collection came out I went to the event. they had flown out the manager from Bellocq in Brooklyn and served a tea to match the 6 different teas that were steeped and used in each perfume.
That so funny! I just posted the Bellocq website link in ltsg’s post above. There like a 5 minute walk from me and I’ve never been there. How was there tea?
I thought it was really good!
HA, sorry!
Ambre Loup today. An errant spritz ended up with a bit up the nose. Whoops. ???? Think that’s all I’ll be smelling for awhile. ????
Maybe I need to try that with my VCA Ambre Imperial. Smells fantastic when I spray it but sillage is nil.
I really don’t recommend it!????
Happened to me last night. I took a nose-to-nozzle sniff of Carnal Flower and could smell it for about 2 hours. Made me think that could be a method for people who work in perfume free zones. You smell great! Don’t see Rania J mentioned much anymore.
Thank you, I’m really enjoying it this winter. And I bet Carnal Flower is sinus clearing! Like smelling salts. ????
Wearing 31 Rue Cambon today which is definitely in my top 10 for winter.
Would be interested in hearing other’s thoughts about colleagues you work with in their 20s. I’m struggling daily with a 27 year old who comes in at 10:30ish, takes an hour lunch, is on his phone more than sporadically txting, and leaves around 5pm. Oh, and he’ll disappear at least once a day for a smoke with other colleagues for 15-20 minutes. No one says anything (at least not that I’m aware of) and this just galls me. Does he get his work done? Yes he does, for the most part. Are others just accepting that this is how 20 year olds operate, so get over it? Help me please!
Sounds like he is pushing your buttons, and understandably so! But if he is getting his work done, and isn’t reporting directly to you, I’d tend more toward breathing deeply and letting it go. Easier said than done, I know. Maybe even take some inspiration from him. If you’re toiling away all day, let yourself take a longer lunch. Do some perfume shopping 😉
Yes, buttons have been pushed! I hear you, and I guess I’m the kind of person that doesn’t just get my work done, I go above and beyond and really try to make my boss and company shine.
I do think some perfume shopping would help! Thank you. 🙂
I see the same here at work everyday in much older people rather than the younger ones. It looks like as long as they have their work done nobody cares. Take it easy and hope some day he will change…
Interesting. Yes, there are those that are quite comfortable in their jobs having worked in the same co. and role for 20+ years.
Thanks for the reminder.
Full disclosure: I’m 26 myself, but I would be irritated by that behavior too. Makes us all look bad. I supervise student employees at a university as part of my job and I have noticed cell phone use on the job to be a persistent problem among some of them, but overall the 20+ students I work with are a responsible, hardworking bunch.
I’m glad to hear this, and I realize there are many in their 20s that are hard working — in early, out late and eager to take on new projects, etc. Don’t mean to stereotype so sorry about that.
Thanks for chiming in!
Ha! I work with all ages and all ages are on their phones all the time. It’s all craziness. I had a wake up call myself not too long ago when my phone died (my main internet access these days) and literally almost panicked. I realized it was time to back off and get a grip on reality. ✌????
Sounds to me like this employee isn’t being pressed enough or should be moved to part-time. If he can get his work done in five hours, why pay him for more than that? Hopefully he is hourly and keeping accurate track. A good long term employee would be looking for additional work or responsibilities, not settling for doing the minimum. Sad that someone so young is settling for being in a job that he seems to not find engaging or challenging.
Yes, I agree. I find it sad too. He’s a smart guy! This is his time to soar!
Erm, I just turned 30 six months ago, so I was very recently a worker in her 20s. Let me assure you that that is not normal. (On another note, I’m surprised to hear there’s a 27-year-old in the US who smokes!)
Come check out Brooklyn! It’s much rarer in CA, but super common here (the smoking, that is).
Really?? That’s fascinating to me. As someone who has trouble breathing around cigarette smoke (literally! I expect it’s some combination of allergies and asthma?), and who had a LOT of trouble walking down the streets in France, I feel lucky, then, to live in CA.
I remember a former coworker at a job I had over a decade ago who was in his early 20’s. He also had the slacker attitude. Management ended up telling him that he had to punch a timeclock, despite the fact that he was salaried. It kept him on schedule.
Sounds like he needs more work to do. Unfortunately my workplace is all about efficiencies (about the last 5 years +). If he knows ‘a better way’ then maybe he needs to be put on special projects.
All the young pups are game for this strategy, but management still comes to us old timers for input on how things REALLY work.
Wishing you best of luck, trust me I’ve been there!
Oh my, this sounds familiar. If this person reported to me, that behavior will not be tolerated. One such person who reports to a peer saunters in 9:30ish – 10ish and SHE LIVES CLOSEST to the office and in fact, walks to the office (hello, NO transportation issues”. She’s constantly on her cell, disappears for chunks of time, takes a long lunch, and then still eats at her desk. And you would not see a sign of her past 5:30. We are in an environment where most people have to reserve their seat and one usually ends up sitting at a different seat everyday (I don’t have to reserve since I’m, ahem, special). Anyway, she saw a headset left by a colleague and she asked if he was going to be in tomorrow. I said I don’t know, to which she said if he comes in, could I let him know that his headset is in a particular spot? I asked if she was going to be in the office tomorrow and she said yes. I told her she should tell him herself. What the???? Seriously?
No words for that, as one of my co-workers says! Jeesh!!
It gets so busy I find it hard to post, but love reading people’s top tens and have been partipating. I wore Kimonanthe, Tango, and Mx., the later two maybe not a top ten winter but I like them a lot at night. Good relaxing myself down to sleep – especially Tango.
Glad you found time to check in — nice list!
I’ve been inspired by Robin’s Best Summer Perfumes of 2017 to match my perfume to my fruit bowl….in other words, nectarines. Lots of nectarines. So JM Nectarine Blossom and Honey. I think the perfume is far less delicious than the fruit as the perfume seems quite synthetic, a GM version maybe? Anyway, it’s a good start.
Soo jealous of your nectarines! My absolute favorite.
Maybe dab a bit of that fruit juice that runs down your arm onto your pulse points to augment the JM. 🙂
Ripe juicy nectarines are something to dream about in the depths of winter. Trying not to drool thinking about them. It would make a mess on my keyboard.
Nobody has ever done a perfect nectarine scent, I don’t think.
Birthday SOTD is Noir de Noir. I wore it last night and enjoyed it so just stuck with it again today. I do like it in cold weather more than hot, so it’s on theme.
Happy birthday KellyC! You smell fantastic!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday KellyC! You smell great!
Happy Birthday! Enjoy your day!!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday!
How was your night out?
It was so nice! We are starting Whole30 this weekend, so I took the opportunity to eat ALL the delicious food last night- cheese plate, martinis, bread, creme brulee, macaroons, everything delicious ha!
Yum!
I really like the whole 30 – I feel like it gets you cooking and definitely eating better. The “Doritos” of the whole 30 are almonds and coffee for me – good luck!
I have been doing WW for about a year and lost like 24 pounds. I’ve kept it off but haven’t been on track like I should since the move and holidays. So I think Whole30 will be helpful in getting back on track! I can do without the grains, legumes/beans, sugar but I have to admit the lack of cheese and alcohol is disturbing! But I am committed and I think it’s going to be great!
Happy Birthday to you! Hope you had a nice dinner last night.
Many happy returns of the day! I hope it is a great year for you.
Hope you are enjoying a day off work for your birthday. You smell great????
I worked (still low on leave from the Korea trip) but “work” is a strong word for it… 😉
Happy Birthday! You smell fantastic!
Happy birthday! You smell great.
My mom’s bday too! Very happy birthday to you!
Happiest of birthdays to your mom!
Happy Scented Birthday, KellyC! I hope that you had a great evening out last night.
SOTD = L’Artisan Hermes LThe Pour Deux et L’Ambre des Merveilles
I made it up, but here’s the thing – Tea for Two and L’Ambre des Merveilles are Top Winter perfumes for me; layered, they’re a potent and superfantastic combination. My recipe is 5 spritzes of T42 topped up with 2 spritzes of L’Ambre.des Merveiles. The Hermes adds a spot of sunshine to the otherwise spicy and somber T42. Try it and letme know what you think!
BTW, I dound my OJ Woman travel spray but it got bumped off the wear list with this layering experiment.
Thank you for the recipe – it sounds delightful!
That combo does sound good. The first time I sniffed T42 I thought I had grabbed the wrong tester bottle. It’s a great scent but the name does not fit the scent. 😉
Well, I have half that combo. I swapped away my AdM and now I’m a bit sorry about it. I bet you smell grand????????
I don’t have any AdM, but I will try T42 with my Tauer Amber Flush body oil!
I’m in Safran Troublant for another rainy day.
If this doesn’t beat all, I don’t know what does: I was “gently remonstrated” yesterday for being “too efficient.” I was shocked into speechlessness, but only for about a minute ????
This reminds me of the recent news story about a man who was arrested for “over-obeying” the police during a traffic stop.
The world is crazy!
You smell lovely today. Well, that settles it, the people you work with are crazy.
Thanks! Haven’t worn this in a while and forgot how wonderful it is❤️
People like that are the reason I hang out with T-Rex ????
Hahaha. That’s happened to my mother, too 🙂
Poor mom! I’m sure she was shocked speechless, too.
Nah, she’s never speechless. She just scolded them for being anti-achievement and then continued being super-efficient.
Your mom sounds like an awesome lady!
Yay mom!
Surely whoever “gently remonstrated” you was just jealous of your superior efficiency 😉
Ha! Maybe, but I think it’s more of a control issue. I have met a lot of nurses like this in the field of nursing and I’ve tried to figure out why these control issues are so prevalent. In my own (unscientific) opinion, it’s probably because they are powerless in their personal lives and need to compensate in their work lives by micromanaging. Such a waste of time and energy.
I’m in the same fragrance as you, but I certainly don’t feel too efficient.
Hey, who cares about efficiency when you smell fabulous?! If anyone gives you a hard time today, stick you arm under their nose and say “Smell This!” ????
Yes!:)
✓!!
“Too efficient” is a compliment!
Right?! Kinda crazy out there in the work world…
Gosh, you’d think that would be an asset! I wish I had that problem.
The only scenario I’ve had where I thought someone was “too efficient” is that server who hovers and starts clearing away your plates before you’re finished eating (and doesn’task).
You smell great, nonetheless!
I just finished nursing school and I can only hope to be too efficient someday…I’ve never not felt like I was drowning lol.
Congrats and welcome to the club! I’m finally at a job (and I’ve had many) after 20 years of drowning where I feel like I can float now. It’s the nature of the beast, I guess.
Lots of SF love over here! I think I’ll wear that one tomorrow actually.
ST for Safran Troublant, not SF.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard of someone being called “too efficient”. SMH.
That is crazy! Reminds me a comment made by a recruiter that candidates were upset that they got rejected too quickly by our career site. Hmmm, well, if there were qualifying questions and your responses indicated you are not qualified, why give you false hope. The career site ended up being tweaked to delay the rejection by several days.
That is too funny. We had a similar problem at my old company. It was widely known that an engineering candidate had to sit for 4 technical interviews and a management/HR interview in one day. If you got escorted out after the first two interviews, you knew you weren’t getting hired and internal people referred to it as being flushed. HR said candidates complained so we had to put them through all five interviews regardless of how obviously unsuited they were, to avoid offending them.
Joining this week’s Black Cashmere party!
I love BC. I bought a used bottle off of the bay but it was all cloves. Wish they’d bring it back!
Welcome to the party! You smell fabulous!
Happy Thursday, dear NSTers! I’m doused in four sprays of the exquisite Trayee. I love this one so much. I’ve got a travel spray from a Take Two split, and I’m very worried about what will happen to me when I reach the bottom of the travel spray. Maybe someone will want to swap some Mohur for Trayee? It’s so spicy and delicious! A quintessentially Indian scent. You know, minus heavy incense and sandalwood.
So, I’m most definitely sick. I stayed in bed for ten hours last night and am still at home (it’s after 10 here). Very fortunately for me, this is not a busy week at work, so I can afford to rest for half a day. This will go much better than the last time I was sick, in Nov/Dec, when the weight of work crushed me into being sick for a whole month.
Hope you feel better tomorrow!
Thanks! Me too 🙂
Boo hiss on definitely being sick! I hope this thing will go away quickly for you.
Thanks, Jalapeno!
Hope you feel better! I never tried Trayee but it always sounded good to me. Is it sweet?
Yeah, it’s pretty sweet. Sweet, creamy/milky, and spiced. Are you pro sweet?
Not anymore. I lost my sweet tooth some time last year. But it also depends on intensity and type of sweet. Anyway, sounds like I’d rather eat Trayee from your description????
Oh no! I hope you recover soon! So many people are sick.
Thanks 🙂 Yeah, they are! I’m very good at catching contagion.
I’m in the mood for Iris Poudre today, I don’t know why I haven’t worn it for a while. It’s a bit cooler today, and this must be the first time in my life that I’m glad to have cooler weather!
I keep forgetting I have a travel size of this! It would be good in cool weather. You smell great!
I put on Fleurs des Fleurs from my Un Nuit a Bali sample set, because I am going to a new dentist today and I didn’t want to put on anything too strong or beloved. But the jokes on me, because this is the rare floral that I dig. Not too sweet, gentle ylang ylang and bergamot up top…This will probably be a good one to try again in spring.
Hope the dentist went well!
I’m in Martin Margiela “Promenade in the Gardens” today – as previously mentioned, it’s been “promoted” to use for my one day a week voluntary stint in local children’s charity shop as I think it’s quite strong, which can come in handy if you’re sorting through a bag of not-so-nice-smelling donations! Otherwise I only have a bottle of Privet Bloom, which I absolutely love, & a few odd samples of bits & pieces. Am definitely planning to add to my collection either when visiting my brother near Tampa & friends north of Houston in March, or in Edinburgh in May when attending the Nils Lofgren concert. I also need to contact the Uncommon Finds chap to see if he’s doing anything around Tampa when I’m there in March given he’s closed his actual shop.
Wearing PdE Tabac Tabou, one of my top 5 winter perfumes. I can ONLY wear it in the winter, so it gets a lot of skin time!
Wore Chamade edt current formulation to bed, hoping I would be able to smell the drydown in the morning. Unfortunately, I woke up super congested – I asked my husband and he said I spelled “fresh”. looking forward to further testing
At first spray, smells very reminiscent To BVA First, to me, but smoother
I had a dentist appointment this morning, so I went with ever-calming L’Ombre Dans L’Eau. It was a good visit, no cavities, so that makes for a great day! I had tons of cavities as a child so always dread going… as I suppose everyone feels. Going to a new dentist is always slightly daunting as well, since we moved, but I’m happy I’ve found a good one. Happy Thursday, all!
A date with the dentist is the worst, but no work needed is the best!
Finding a good dentist is such a relief! You smell lovely!
Dentists make my palms sweat.
Hurray for finding a good dentist! It makes a huge difference, IMO.
Yesss!!!! You all understand!!
Wearing SL Gris Clair, but not for any project, just because I just got my bottle that I’d ordered! I’m finding it not to have much sillage or lasting power, but perhaps I applied it too cautiously.
I just got mine on Tuesday. I agree with you on the village, but I could smell it myself all day.
Popping in quick to say I’m wearing my new winter love Bottega Veneta. I can’t stop wearing it. It really feels like me. Have a great rest of the day everyone!
You smell fabulous!
What Coin-op said! Congrats on finding a new perfume love.
Thanks! True perfume love is hard to find. ????
Oh, how I love today’s winter favorite, SSS Tabac Aurea.I
And I have a question: I recently ordered a bottle of Serge Lutens and I cannot get the sprayer to come loose from the top. Do I need to use pliers to get it out of there?
Oof, is this one of the new 100-mL bottles? The old 50-mL ones come with the screw top on, and are super easy to take off and exchange for the sprayers.
It’s one of the old 50 mls. The round screw top is as you say, easy to take off, but the sprayer is inside the other, taller cap, and it won’t come out. I’m taking the pliers to it tonight.
Got my bottle of VCA Ambre Imperial this morning so I’m wearing that. Smells great but no sillage. I will go through this bottle in no time spritzing every 30 minutes – or maybe I will layer it over Tauer’s amber body oil.
I’m having that problem with my Rose Velours sample. And I don’t usually mind quiet and am ok with 5 hour longevity, but this shrinks down to almost nothing in an hour. I’m sure spraying would help somewhat.
Hmm, I think maybe this whole line is just really quiet. I got the same impression from Orchidée Vanille and Bois d’Iris. Maybe I need to spray my clothes too.
I didn’t have that problem with Gardenia Petale. In fact I dab that one from the decant instead of spray, since it can overwhelm me a little.
Prada Infusion d’Amande thanks to Wendysue. Light and really nice. Almond is a new love.
Received a $25 credit toward a future flight from my complaint about being forced to check my bag unnecessarily (which added 25 minutes to my travel time.). Also got a $15 additional credit because apparently the DirecTV wasn’t working well in the flight (which I didn’t even know.) I’ll take it! I’ve decided to go for window seat in my next trip in order to board earlier. Sorry folks…you’ll just have to get up a bit more often.
SOTD = back in Samsara today. I think maybe I should have used my EdP… that bottle needs some love, too.
Began the day with Tonka Imperiale, a winter fave, but which I can only take in small doses. Being a child of the 80s and a go-big-or-go-home perfume kinda gal, it takes something really massive for me to be overwhelmed. But Tonka Imperiale can be too much even for me and is best applied just a little dab at a time.
And fortunately I applied very judiciously, since my Tauerville order arrived today. I’ve got Vanilla Flash under one wrist and Amber Flash on the underside of the other. I ought to have tested separately, as I keep getting whiffs of something intriguing but am not sure which one it is. I think it’s the vanilla, though. Both have aspects of When We Cuddle, which I wore last night and is a winter fave, though it’s a nice bedtime frag any time of year.
I love and have all the scents you’ve mentioned, nice choices! 🙂
Popping in quickly to share that I’m wearing YSL Nu EDP in the silver hockey puck bottle. It’s definitely a winter fave – spicy and balsamic.
That’s a great one!
In my big, chewy, sticky incense— Terveer Incense, which is so obscure the brand is not even listed on Fragrantica. I think I got it at Barney’s a few years ago. Great winter scent.
Wow. Meant to post on Fri! See ya over there 🙂 !!
