Happy Almost-Friday, and happy World Monkey Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm off-season in L'Artisan La Chasse aux Papillons.
Reminder: 12/15 will be Wild Kingdom Friday...wear a perfume with an animal in its name. If you don't have one, match your perfume to an animal and tell us about it. Suggested by Elisa.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Not thematic but today I’m in Lush Lust because some days you need to feel like you’re inhaling all the jasmine in the world, you know?
Yes! We are distant cousins but your jasmine beats my jasmine by a mile.
all the jasmine in the world sounds like it should be a book title đ
Yes!
I smelled Lust at my Lush store last weekend, and LOVED it! WOW! It’s a powerhouse of jasmine, and just gorgeous! I ended up leaving with Berry Berry Christmas and Rose Jam shower gels though….LOL!
Oh dear! I forgot about La Chasse Aux Papillons!!
My SOTD is Weil Antilope.
Nice! I’d wear that this week if I had it.
Here I was thinking I didn’t have any perfumes with animals in the name, when your comment reminded me that I have Antilope also (vintage!), and Zibeline as well. I just dabbed on some Zibeline and I will wear Antilope tomorrow.
Intrigued by Zibeline, I looked at Weil’s entry in Fragrantica. Apparently, they named their scents after animals long before Zoologist: Antilope, Chinchilla, Zibeline, Hermine.
I don’t think I had even heard of Hermine or Chinchilla before. I will have to keep an eye out for them. It makes sense that Weil used animal names, since back in the day most perfumes had animalic base notes.
Ambre 114 for a 2 hour school delay – snow! Parenting fail because I didnât check and woke up the teenager at the normal time.

Thanks perfumelover67!
I’ve not experienced Safran Troublant, but saffron is one of my favorite notes.
Good luck, and tranquility to you.
????????????
Thank you Bear! ????????????
Either anise or almond biscotti sound delicious to me! I bet homemade ones are even better. ????
Thanks Jalapeno !!!
Very delicious dunked in strong coffee !
đ
Hedonist today, no real connection to the theme, but lots of honey notes . I really need to try the flanker with rose, my decant was too small. This one has great staying power and a rose and honey might be nice
I’m going to have to drag out Hedonist and start wearing it. I had forgotten that I have a full bottle of this. You smell wonderful! Thanks for reminding me.
the original prone of the follow ups?
At monkeys ???? doctors appt
Walked in the snow and cold many many blocks
Mon exclusif
Hope monkey is well!
Today’s SOTD is Laura Mercier’s Minuit EnchantĂ©.
SotD = Zoologist Bat
My sample of Bat will last forever. I need just a dab. This morning Bat smells like banana leaf with minerals. Very nice.
Cute monkey in that photo today. He is telling me to take a nap this afternoon..
I will join Robin in La Chasse aux Papillons later today or tomorrow. It is one of my first loves.
That adorable monkey is making me want to go back to bed! A nap with that monkey would be ideal ????
In L’Artisan Saffran Troublant. I had to skip the day at work to take my mom to the doctor in a while. She has not been feeling well for the past couple of days. Saffran Troublant is a good companion, comfy, non-intrusive, pleasant, warm. Great to face a cold, snowy, slippery day.
Looking forward to the weekend! I still have so many things pending for the holidays…
Best of luck with mom. I hope she feels better soon and that you are not too stressed about missing work.
Thank you Springpansy. Hoping for the best!
No shower yet – day off – but wearing En Voyage perfumes Captured in Amber today. Has to be an insect or something captured in that amber, right? I was going to go off season too today, in Zoologist Hummingbird, but we had single digit temps earlier and I need something more robust. Enjoy your day, everyone đ
Such a great perfume name!
I like your thinking. Iâve joined you in wearing this perfume today – thank you for the idea! We smell very warm and cozy.
No animal-named fragrances in my collection, unless one counts Woman (a mammal, right?) by Ormonde Jayne, which is my SOTD.
That might depend on the woman. đ
đ
Hah! Good point! đ
Ha! Smelling good regardless!
SOTD is Teo Cabanel Alahine. Love I!
<3
Alahiiiine
I have not seen you wearing Alahine like last year….
I know!
I have been savoring it for special occasions after reading this line over at Kafkaesque perfume blog: “original version of my beloved Alahine (which has now been gutted by reformulation)”
This line brought a small tear to my eye. What can you do..nothing. I should just enjoy it while I have it!
Thanks for the reminder perfumelover67!
OMG NO NO NO NO
Oh, nooo…
I still should probably wear it this week: if it spoils while Iâm âsavingâ it, Iâll be probably even more devastated.
Terrible! I would do the same if I were you!
I’m wearing Dior Homme Intense again, because I’ve neglected it during the warmer weather and I’m feeling the need to wear it now đ
So comforting in the cold, really enveloping like a big hug, u smell great!
Indeed, comforting. Thank you!
I’m wearing one of my absolute favorites, Dark Horse by Dame. Fits the theme and smells wonderful.
I’ve been reading The Force, a novel about crime and crooked cops in New York; Dark Horse is the ne plus ultra of Mexican cocaine. Have fun!
Wearing Dame Perfume’s Black Flower Mexican Vanilla Hair Oil and Body Cream with a touch of their Chocolate Oil. I smell warm and cozy, but not in a foodie way. I am put in mind of fluffy bunnies.
I haven’t tried the Chocolate Oil, but was curious about Chocolate Man. Probably the same thing, just in a different carrier base, I suppose.
And of course, you smell great!
You smell great – I hope you are also feeling better!
That sounds absolutely delightful.
Yum!
Oh blast! Definitely should have worn Zoologist Macaque today, I guess. I’ll save it for tomorrow, for Wild Kingdom Friday, and the monkeys will have to forgive me for being a day late. SOTD: Fazzolari Ummagumma.
Ooohh, I have a sample of Ummagumma headed my way. What do you think?
Quite nice, well-crafted, though probably not my thing. I surprised myself by loving Feu Secret — iris “soliflores” not being my thing either — but I can see how Ummagumma will likely have a bigger fan base, even if I prefer the former. If you liked Hermes Ambre des Merveilles or, say, Tom Ford Amber Absolute, you’ll probably love this.
To me it smells similar to L’Incendiaire which I love and own a discounted bottle. $600 for 50 mLs – pffffffft
For the world, Monkey Day. For me, Macaque.
SOTD is Hana Hiraku by Parfum Satori, because I personally enjoy melon notes. It reminds me of a much better executed, and more sophisticated Cucumber Melon from B&BW đ
Think I’ll have to dig out my sample of Zoologist’s Civet for tomorrow’s theme. Can’t find my notes on this one, so could be interesting!
SOTD Goest Perfume Smoke & Violets for another cold (post) snowy day. I was curious about some of their other scents since I like this ine so much, so took advantage of their 30% off today to order a couple of samples. They have cute candles, too, but I have a glut of candles right now.
thanks for this info and recommendation, Elisa. I was itching for some new samples, so ordered Realism and Smokers’ Perfume.
Good morning Y’all….
Well, I woke up at 8am, and I’m supposed to leave the house at 8am, so today was a GRAB AND GO! LOL.
In my favorite Atelier Pomelo Paradis. Winter citrus works today!
I hate when I do that! Hope the day is going well.
It throws the whole day off đ
Haven’t taken my shower yet. I just got through reviewing Aimez Moi and needless to say that I don’t like it and I am about to get into the shower to wash it off. After that, I am going to have to wear some Epic today.
I can take your Aimez Moi off your hands if you decide to part with it
Aimee Moi is gorgeous isnât it? one of my favourites for winter (providing u like anice and violets of course.)
Epic is another favourite too.
I didn’t love it either. I was hoping for a pretty violet and got mostly fruit. Disappointing.
Back on the East Coast for pre-holiday visit with the family, and giving Papillon Salome another road test in this cold, overcast weather. Iâm enjoying its rich, old-world vibe; on me, itâs a carnation-oak moss-styrax blast with a hint of dry patch and a good dose of skank. I would love for Santa to bring me a bottle – highly unlikely, as everyone is inexplicably scared to give me perfume gifts, even when I tell them the name of the fragrance! – but have a hard time justifying buying it myself, as my collection already has some great skanky and oak mossy scents.
Love SalomĂ©! I would love to be getting whiffs of it on a long trip. I just recently bought a bottle, the price of which made me pause. But, I donât have anything like it and itâs cheaper, relatively speaking, than the 2 Vero Scents I want, so I was able to illogically justify it. Enjoy your trip and your perfume because you smell fabulousâ????
Perfume financial logic is utterly its own line of reasoning. Itâs built on a philosophy known only to a few, and depends on several arcane practices. I instantly followed your rationale for Salome. Oh, and applauded your savvy decision.
Salome is so sublime. It feels necessary somehow.
If you want to soften the cost by splitting some, hit me up đ I’ve been dithering over a bottle as well.
Zoologist Macaque inspired by the monkey photo. Very green and jungley- so it’s more the environment of the macaque than the macaque itself. Not sure what that would smell like, maybe not so good?
Zoologist Hummingbird. Grateful this project made me revisit it; I hadnât thought much of it on paper but I am getting some lovely wafts on skin today!
I will be pulling a Bear today with Jungle lâElephant since I am off and can be as loud as I want.
Just waking out here on the left coast with a walnut cranberry bagel and a hot hot coffee because itâs cold!! I have been tethered to town since I arrived due to various appointments, which has been frustrating. Next week Iâll be heading to the coast and the no phone zone and I canât WAIT!!
Happy Almost Friday Day to allâ????
????????????????????????????
Smellin’ good Deva!
????â
????????????????????????
That’s what I will wear tomorrow. You both smell FAB!
Hello twin, Robin!
I guess I will be playing the “older sister” today because I am in La Chasse Extreme. đ
Heading off to brew some coffee~
Hey older sister! We smell great.
You smell lovely, Robin! That one reminds me of a smell from childhood – the Sweet 16 solid perfumes marketed to little girls… anyone remember these???
Snow day here, we have about 9 inches on the ground! The whole family is excited. đ
p.s. I just discovered this, thanks to the lovely kpaint!! It is such a happy scent for me. I can’t believe I was in the dark about this one for so long.
La Chasse Aux Papillon? It may have been from someone else (or my memory’s faulty…) It is lovely, though. One of those that led me to the rabbit hole, though I rarely wear it anymore.
How wonderful, enjoy youâre snow,! weâre wishing and wishing..would be such a thrill for my little people, alas the rain keeps cutting the cold snaps.
I hope you have snow soon, mayfly! We’ve been disappointed the last couple years with the lack of snow, so it was good to finally get some.
I don’t remember those! They were probably after my time đ
I just looked it up… looks like My Sweet 16 makeup was made in 1987 – there’s a commercial on youtube!
I’m wearing Gris Montaigne today. I’m hoping to induce the “smell good, feel good” effect.
Gris Montaigne is wonderful, hope it works its magic for you!
Hi, everyone. Friday: last day at work until 8 January. Yes! YES!!!
Iâm being brave today, hanging out in my office with The Elephant. Actually, Iâd Iâm honest, probably not really very brave, because there wonât be many people there, so if the heat makes the spices bloom and spread, no harm will be done to anyone but me. I do love this perfume very much: itâs rich and intense and A Statement. Iâm wearing a dress thatâs also on theme: it has some mad animals cavorting around the hem and a placid zebra trotting across my boobs. Itâs great fun, and I would like to request double points, please, for managing to get the wild kingdom in my outfit as well as my perfume.
Eric sends his greetings. He has just finished my yoghurt, and goodness knows what that will do to his tummy, but he seemed to enjoy it so much I couldnât bear to stop him. He now has a raspberry-pink stain on his nose, but Titus will probably deal with that soon enough.
Be well, all. You all smell fabulous.
I think u will definitely get double points!
Eric sounds very cute, my dog loves empty yogurt pots too.
Au Coeur du DĂ©sert today for what seems like the umpteenth day of this interminable Santa Ana. I have never seen one last this long. Feh.
You smell phenomenal.
Seconding this.
I chose Malbrum Tigre du Bengale from a sample. It’s extrait, so a few dabs went a long way. If you like cola scents, this is one for you to try. Another cola perfume I enjoy is the discontinued Smell Bent Elf-Fulfilling Prophecy. Tigre du Bengale smells more expensive, as it should, and has more emphasis on resinous incense (myrrh and labdanum) instead of sweet holiday spices.
Oh, then I need to try that one!
Acqua di Parma Colonia.
I like your choice, Robin. At the beginning of the week I thought I had no perfume from my collection that fit this theme. Now, after reading today and yesterday’s NST, I know I have two to choose from đ
I have more choices than I thought too!
Wearing Ferre on this, my last day of work until 2018. Starting tomorrow, out come all the office-inappropriate perfumes.
Yay for you!
Have fun! Reek havoc!
Celebrating Friday here with Nuit de Longchamps, for it’s connection to horse racing – it certainly doesn’t smell horse-like, I feel altogether too elegant for the office.
You smell gorgeous!
Still commando today due to the flu. Not sure why I even bother getting the flu shot, although I don’t seem to have it quite as bad as my guy…his fever has been much higher. There’s nothing like a few commando days to make ya miss your perfume lol.
You all smell great, per usual.
Oh no! Sorry to hear that it’s the flu. đ
Sorry to hear you have the flu! Theyâre predicting a worse season than last year. The vax doesnât cover all strains, but will still boost your immunity so if youâre unlucky enough to catch one of those, you should at least have a less severe symptoms. No consolation, I know. Drink, sleep, and take good care of yourself????
Oh, yuck! I hope it passes quickly for both of you!
Eeeek! Get well soon!
SOTD is Huitieme Art “Monsieur”.
Notes are: patchouli, cedar, vetiver, sandalwood, poplar buds, incense, papyrus, oak and oakmoss.
Spicy, woody, this gave a welcome lift to the spirits on a cold morning. But lasting power is not so good.
I am so behind on HA! Glad to hear it lifted your spirits, even if it didn’t last.
Sotd: Ambre Loup, perfect for another cold and snowy day. Winter is here! âïžâïž
You ain’t just whistling Dixie!
Ooh, I love Ambre Loup!
I’m on theme today with Zoologist Dragonfly. I decided to give this one a real wearing, though I didn’t like it at all at first sniff. I don’t hate it, and the aquatic whatever isn’t quite as piercing as it can be, but it’s definitely not on the coffret list.
Going for roses again today! SOTD = Tauer Une Rose Vermeille, from the sample stash. I am getting a delicious strawberry note today along with the roses. It’s making me crave strawberry shortcake.
You smell delicious!
Started the day in Profumum Roma Vanitas, an orange-scented candyfloss that I wouldn’t have thought would be my thing but is lots of fun (thanks for splitting, hajusuuri!) Later I put a sweater on that had delicious-smelling cuffs, and after a quick olfactory scan I realized it was Amouage Memoir Woman, which I’m now wearing. All the spices smell Christmas-y to me so it seems perfect for this time of year.
Theme-wise, for hajusuuri:
Profumum Roma Vanitas –> Parrot
Amouage Memoir –> Emu
Perfect! I was going to use emu for mine on Tuesday but ended up finding elephant :-). Ah, and you can also get tapir from the Vanitas…animal twins?
Iâm in Zoologist Nightingale. Not sure what to think of it…itâs a little vintage-like, florals and some rose. Not doing a lot for me, but I finished the dabber! I think I bought my dabber Zoologist samples in February, so it it is high time I finished them.
I was in Beaver yesterday, and liked that one much more. Still, not FB worthy.
Yâall, PT is kicking my tookas. I am worthless for the rest of the day when I have a session. I know, that means itâs working! ????
Yay for PT. How many more sessions do you have?
Well, the script was written for six weeks, not a quantity of sessions, which I thought was weird. But Iâve finished my second week, so four to go! Thanks for asking. ????
Oy vey! Super late to the party
SOTD = Chanel number nineteen Eau de Parfum
I see “tapir” in the name. Also, in case Kanuka is reading this, I would add this word to the forgotten words in a children’s dictionary.
I’m going to a friend’s son’s wedding tomorrow and will be cooped up in a car with a scent phobe so I may go scentless. I will bring my hat which is wafting the best combo of Cuir Beluga and No.19. I never imagined that these two can work well together but it is amazing!
Iâm pleased to see that youâre working on finishing that bottle đ
I ordered that book, The Forgotten Words, and received it yesterday. It is arrestingly beautiful, and quite unsettling. As long as Iâm around, my granddaughter *will* have lots of books and know these words.
