Happy Tuesday and happy Gingerbread House Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I went with Maria Candida Gentile Elephant & Roses. Tea at the moment is a little bit of Chameleon Cold Brew Espresso.
Reminder: 12/15 will be Wild Kingdom Friday...wear a perfume with an animal in its name. If you don't have one, match your perfume to an animal and tell us about it. Suggested by Elisa.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the elephant teacup is by Memo Paris, and holds a candle scented with amber (I think inspired by the brand's African Leather fragrance). "2 scented candles in delicate white porcelain Bone China tea cups, trimmed in fine gold" are €235.
I guess I’m cheating with Rouge Bunny Rouge Vespers (animal in the name of the house, not the scent).
I only have two scents named after an animal and one scent with a part of animal in its name, so I saved them for Wednesday – Friday.
Thanks for kind replies to my comment yesterday.
Me, too – I’m saving Jungle l”Elephant for Friday!
Yes, it’s probably going to be my Friday scent, too.
It’s my SOTD today, it’s so good in cold and snow 🙂
In Serge Lutens Gris Clair. I find it very comforting and that is what I need today. I guess I am feeling very nostalgic thinking the holidays are approaching…
Have a great day everyone!
Glad you can find comfort in fragrance today. Have a great day too!
????
Me too! I teared up a little this morning when putting up the decorations.
This year, we are hosting my entire family in my very tiny apartment. I don’t know what I was thinking..but whatever! I will make it work somehow. People can sit on the floor!
We decided to spend Christmas Eve with the family at a restaurant to make it more comfortable and bearable. Gathering at home would bring too many memories of my dad and it is still very sad for us. I am behind with the decoration, but at least the tree is up and shining! This coming weekend I have to finish everything, including wrapping the presents ????????.
I am behind with that also, wrapping..buying! Everything!
We are doing Christmas Eve here and we will just do the next day with ourselves.
The feeling of having your Dad not with you for the holidays is something that I still struggle with now, 4 years later…
Same here. Christmas day only for ourselves.
We invited some friends to join us at Christmas Eve evening services and then dinner in our tiny place. The floor will definitely be used….
Our floor is always used. For New Year will be meeting in my tiny apt, and we are not a big family….
Peace and comfort to you.
Thank you Elisa P.
I’m really hoping that a bottle of Gris Clair falls off Santa’s sleigh and down my chimney!
I hope your wish comes true! 😀
Wishing you joy behind the nostalgia this year and to come.
Thank you LizzieB.
It’s always a good thing to have a reliable comfort scent around, but it seems to be the case even more so at this time of year. I’ve needed one a couple of times so far.
I’m wearing my last few drops of Bruno Fazzolari’s Lampblack while eagerly awaiting my sample of UmmaGumma. Tons of coffee to fight the frigid temps.
You smell great! I enjoyed wearing that yesterday and it’s lingering nicely on my scarf.
Do report back on your impressions of Ummagumma!
I picked Natori (the purple one) to go with my blue corduroy shirt and teal jeans. This has awkwardly become modern discontinuation week for me! Natori really felt like a classic perfume. I guess the target audience already has signature scents? Such a shame. But I have my second back up coming this week.
Hard to say — don’t even know if their target audience knew it existed! I don’t think Parlux marketed it very well.
Tragic
SOTD Cire Trudon Bruma. Something pretty for this unpretty morning.
the sun is peeking out…
Is it? I missed it on my commute.
It showed itself and then said Bye Bye ! I only know because I had to put down the blinds when it made its brief appearance.
It might even snow or rain later….Let’s enjoy the sun now!
I’m in a meeting room with no windows. Yuck. Hopefully will be able to talk a walk in a bit.

Just finished holiday decorations. Little ones only broke one ornament so far…
Oh Robin..that is a teacup after my own heart! Love Love it! That price..my goodness
The price is crazy! But it’s such a great idea to sell candles in matched teacups, hope some more reasonably priced brand will start doing it.
I am searching for teacups with elephants…
In vintage Chanel Cristalle edt. I like it better in cold weather, but regret not going for Chanel No 19. First world problem – not getting *exactly* the right scent 🙂
Drinking a latte with extra shot, eating dark chocolate embedded with ground coffee beans. I need all the caffeine!
You smell great!
You and your aura smell amazing – Cristalle+coffee+chocolate = invigorating and YUM!
That dark chocolate embedded with ground coffee beans sounds really good! May I have some, please!!! 🙂
What a wonderful teacup! I want that with another cup and the matching teapot (Santa, get those elves working on that please). SOTD is Alahiiiine because it is BLEEPING cold this morning.
It comes with two cups! I forget the price of the teapot, but it is darned cute too.
Ack – there IS a matching teapot?? I’m with LTSG below – hide my credit cards!
It’s crazy expensive.
You smell fab!!!!
I don’t want to look at the teapot…hide my wallet!
I’m wearing Galop today, from a sample. The only Hermes that has worked for me so far. I feel like it is more of a warm weather leather. One more night of work and then two days off. I can’t wait. Hope everyone has a good day!
I might wear that tomorrow — close enough for Wild Kingdom week, right? But agree it might be better in warm weather.
Good morning Y’all!
Trying to sneak a little Mugler past the Office Perfume Grinch, by wearing the light and well behaved Angel Innocent. Good stuff!
I’m wearing vintage Femme. A woman is a mammal, a mammal is an animal, right? Seems a little degrading though… But the scent is great.
I’m 100% with you and will probably wear Femme and Girl this week! I don’t think I have any Hommes….
Wonder if anybody will wear Faberge Tigress this week? 🙂

For fun. Man, Lola Falana was somethin’, warn’t she?
Wow! She certainly was! Talk about having a mass of dash!
Old-school Panthere for me today. Feels cozy!
Hey, that’s not old enough to be old school!
Oh I just meant… original Panthere not La Panthere? Cartier is confusing me
Ah, so sorry — it was me that was confused!
I’m wearing Serge Lutens La fille de Berlin. I bought my new bottle with brand new packaging. The bottle looks more modem, I think it’s beautiful and I like that it’s 100ml as I prefer larger size bottles for perfumes I reach out more often. I tested it last night, I’m glad to report this doesn’t seem it’s been reformulated. It smells the same and so far longevity is just as good as the older bottles.
Glad to hear it’s the same!
I’m wearing La Panthere today. I don’t wear this very often, but I like it. I guess it gets lost among all the other minis that I own.
The best sellers sample pack from Arielle Shoshana arrived in the mail!
Left wrist: Arielle Shoshana. That first blast of pineapple (?) was shocking and I started to feel doubts about applying so much of it but, wow!, it settles into something extraordinary and very wearable. This may be the first fruity fragrance I can truly love.
Right wrist: LAP Histoire d’Oranges. Smells great, but I’m a sucker for neroli notes. It reminds me of Atelier Cologne Grand Neroli but it’s softer, blends better with my skin. HdO may be closer to the original Annick Goutal Neroli.
Ooh I’ve had an eye out for a Histoire d’Oranges sample. Thanks for the mini-review!
You’ve got neroli in your name! Definitely try the Histoire d’Oranges.
Arielle Shoshana is all about the passionfruit! But it is really nice, isn’t it?
Yes! Very nice.
Cancelled my vet appointment for my dogs. Even though it is tomorrow, we are supposed to get more snow and I don’t really want to go out with the dogs with over a foot of snow and bad roads. Right now, I am wearing Theorema and thinking of doing a STC run since I did get that coupon. I don’t know if I should keep the Theorema after my shower or go for Lyric.
Keep the Theorema today and Lyric for tomorrow? Both amazing fragrances!
SotD = EAU DES MERVEILLES
Woot woot! That is all. 😀
You smell like a sea salted goddess
thanks, lovestosmellgood!
Feeling and smelling “merveilleuse” today.
SOTD is Pacifica Breath Taking for some sweet & spicy goodness.
It’s the first day of finals at the university where I work, and the library is buzzing. Good luck to any of you who are students! Don’t forget to take care of yourself.
My son took his second final today, and will have his last on Friday 🙂
Wearing a sample of Kilian Black Phantom today. It’s cool and clear and still bone dry, wish this Santa Ana would break. Longest one in memory.
Comparing and contrasting Tihota and Note Vanillee today.
Tihota is pretty straightforward whereas the NV has citrus and more contrast.
Do you prefer one over the other?
They are both very good. Tihota is probably the winner but I would happily wear both.
Tihota is very straightforward and almost simple. It is beautiful and almost pure vanilla to me with little deviation.
Note Vanillee has vanilla, some citrus and maybe some flowers thrown into the mix…sweeter than the former too.
I will compare these to some old and recent SDV to see the differences too.
Trying to compare all these to whittle down what goes on the to buy list…it is also fun. 😉
Yes, I do these comparisons all the time. Just tested my SDV against BK Amber Oud. Both lovely. The SDV was boozier, of course.
Do you what year your SDV is from please?
I have a tiny amount left from a decant which I’d say is most likely pre-reformulation and I just had a lovely person mule 20 ml back from Paris. The new formula is fairly off putting at first…something harsh…which mellows out and then it’s pretty good.
Going to do a side by side of my old and new tomorrow I think. I doubt I will seek out old and costly SDV which there are another suitors on the horizon like Tihota, Vanitas by Profumum Roma, etc. 😉
She-ra,
Mine is from a decant as well, but I received it at least 5 years ago, maybe a little longer – and only a few drops left. But I agree – not worth it to seek out the older version.
Wearing 1000 Flowers Reglisse Noire.
I need Zoologist to make a Zebra perfume for me. They are my favorite animal! The notes should be wild and grassy with a base of sun-baked earth and a little zing of spice (cardamom? pepper?). At the moment I think I only have one perfume with an animal in its name so I am saving that for Friday.
I like the sound of your Zebra perfume. I think I read that Zoologist plans to release 3 perfumes in 2018, so you never know. Maybe Zebra will be one of them…
Also, you smell great. ????
😉 Thanks! Next up: Madonna Lily!
Haven’t worn fragrance for over a week, not since applying Perfumer H Rose Green which I took with me on my recent London trip. Came home last Monday evening with some dreaded lurgy, & have been housebound until a dental appointment today. Appetite, sense of taste & smell, sleep patterns completely shot for a week, have felt truly horrible, & of course I have passed it on whatever it is to my husband! Had a lovely time with my friend Marion in London, though perfume adventures were sadly lacking. Did pop into Perfumer H again, though samples were not on offer this time, despite it being Marion’s first time there. The new Jovoy shop in Conduit Street was on the list, but it doesn’t open until 11am, even on a weekday, so that was most inconvenient! We did hit Penhaligon in Camden Passage Islington, where they had the most amazing, & unexpected, pre Christmas sale. My fears for this company’s future were not allayed by some of the most sensational reductions I have ever seen them have. Marion bought a shedload of very much reduced in price (GBP 3.00 each!) lip balms, as she has ‘secret Santa’ nonsense to deal with at work, I bought just the one for my best friend’s “I’ve been away so here’s a little something” gift. Pretty sure Marion ended up with a generous selection of fragrance samples, too, which is usual with Penhaligon & much appreciated. My beloved Bluebell was on spectacular special offer, but as always, the bottle would not have fit into the handcarry only plastic bag for liquids, so i had to pass. I reckon I have one or two more weekly volunteer stints left in my existing bottle! We were off the beaten track this trip more than usual, so didn’t get to Liberty, Selfridges, Les Senteurs or some of my other usual haunts – I will just have to buy more than I had originally planned at Uncommon Finds in March when I visit my brother near Tampa!
That sounds like so much fun — sorry you got sick though!
Caron La Selection Piu Bellodgia
How is this one?
I love wearing it. I bought this the first day I was in Paris last year. The Caron Boutique was the first stop we made. I fell in love with it (carnations, rose, lily of the valley, soft spices), and purchased it. The very elegant sales associate’s name was Nahema, and she spritzed some on my scarf. Now whenever I wear this, I remember that wonderful first day in Paris 🙂
wow! Sounds beautiful
I’m wearing just regular Hanae Mori today, one of the oldest bottles I have and a very early purchase in my career of perfume exploration. It’s a little sweet but really a beautiful scent and easy to like. I find it calming with its berry-woody-ylang aspects. The fruit notes aren’t screechy. Anyway I thought of it because I know she makes one called Butterfly and was thinking it would fit this week’s theme, but I don’t have that one.
I thought Butterfly referred to the original Hanae Mori because of the butterfly on the packaging.
That’s such a nice one.
I think you’re right, mals, Calypso you are all ready for Friday.
My beloved Nina by Nina Ricci. One of those fragrances that make me wonder why I bother wearing anything else.
Nina is so pretty. You smell great today.
It is, I’m in the old Nina though, the 1987 one that came in the beautiful Lalique bottle.
That’s the one I wore, too. 🙂
Let’s just forget about the impostor known as Nina these days 😉
Bois d’Argent, a perfect winter scent, and sheer enough to hopefully not offend workplace type environments
Love this one! I’m happy to see it mentioned and wish it were still available.
Oh dear, I didn’t know it wasn’t anymore. I just have a little decant. 🙁
My scented life is going much better today. I’m wearing Zoologist Nightingale for the first time and really enjoying it. I find it has a peppery, vegetal quality along with the powdery lipstick aspect here in the mid development. It started out bright, fruity and rosy. And I’m definitely getting the oakmoss and ambergris notes at this point. It’s quite a strong perfume. I really enjoy its pink color.
That one was a surprise to me. I didn’t expect to like it but it is my favorite in the line. You described it really well. Yes, a little goes a long way!
No scent yet as I try to figure out if I’m actually allergic to our Christmas tree! Wouldn’t that be inconvenient? It occurred to me this morning, as my sneezing and sinus issues got worse once I moved from the bedroom to near the tree. Maybe if I run our air filter… never heard of such a thing, so it may just be a little bit of a cold.
Someone mentioned Natori earlier….haven’t worn that in awhile so could be something to pull out.
It is certainly possible. One year I got completely snotted up and couldn’t breathe 30 minutes after my husband brought the tree in, so I was pretty sure that was what it was. I’d never had reactions to cedars or white pines before, but the Canaan fir really did its best to suffocate me. We’ve been getting Frasier firs since.
(Here is the long story! http://themuseinwoodenshoes.com/news-sort-of-or-in-which-my-christmas-tree-attempts-to-kill-me/)
Wow. I’m nowhere near as bad as you experienced. Just uncomfortable. This is a Frasier, which we’ve had before. So, it really doesn’t make much sense. I just took a second dose of Zyrtek. We will see…..
And I’m wearing the t-shirt from yesterday, so no need to apply something new. Lieu de Rêve is still there hanging on.
I hope your allergy is not related to the Christmas tree. Feel better soon!
Thanks! It seems I’ve done nothing but whine of late…. but, I finally pulled the trigger on our health insurance for next year…three days before deadline. So, that’s a burden lifted. I should be Little Miss Sunshine from now in…enjoying the season!
My son has allergies so we always power washed our tree with the garden hose then let it dry before bringing it in the house. A few years ago we went to an artificial tree. (gasp!)
Good morning, all. And from Eric also, sitting on my chest, kneading in ecstasy and reading NST with real attention. He appears to favour all your deeper winter choices he is sooooo happy. I see Alexander has chewed off Eric’sother eyebrow. Poor Eric. He has miserable little broken stumps where he should lovely luxuriant whiskerssnd no eyebrows at all.
It’s graduation today. I’m wearing Oeillet Bengale, because it smells like summer to me, and also, I have to read the names again and I want to smell delicious to me. Bother everyone else. Today I matter. And that, my NST friends, is probably the single most egocentric thought I have ever had. I don’t want to do this, I’m nervous and stressed about it, and today I don’t care if my perfumes gets in people’s way. At least sixty students have rung me to ensure that I pronounce their names correctly. I appreciated Laipouomalu’s phone call, but when someone called (for example) Turner rings, it makes me second guess my common sense: I start thinking, is there another possible way to pronounce Turner? Have I inadvertently been mispronouncing it all my life? Have I been insulting the entire Turner clan with my ignorance? Ack! I’m locked into end-of-the-year tiredness, in other words, and over-reacting at every opportunity I get.
Well, I should plunge into the day. You all smell gorgeous, and that opinion is heavily endorsed by Eric. Be well, all.
*waves high to Eric*
Pronounce it in French on the day – that’ll teach ’em to patronise you. “Veuillez accepter mes félicitations plus sincères, Toornairrrr!” Bwahahaha… ;^)
Oh my. Is Laipouomalu one of those names where every vowel is pronounced? I hope they all sniff you wafting Oeillet Bengale, because it is gorgeous.
You are reading the names again because you did it splendidly before. This time you will be equally marvelous.
Now, what I would like to know is how your kittens came by their names. There must be a story behind a cat called Eric.
Enjoy graduation! You smell lovely.
You will do a bang-up job of reading names again this time. And you are smelling fantastic to boot.
Beautiful but rather expensive candle.
SOTD is Ummagumma. If I went way, way out I could make a wild animal association, sort of.
Pink Floyd was one of my all time favorite bands back in the the day and there is a track on thier “Ummagumma” album that was quite popular with people who may have been experimenting with certain things- “Several species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together and Grooving with a Pict.”
Easy Peasy????
Verdict on Ummagumma??
I lurves it! So glad I bought a bottle! However, being a responsible perfume pusher, I’d say sample first. Then buy ????
Did you blind buy?
No, I sampled first.
Prada Purple Rain this Tuesday. I like it even more now when it’s cold. Isn’t it interesting how weather can affect our perception of a scent? I never experienced a situation that I loved one fragrance in certain season and didn’t like it in other one. Anyone had such situation?
Oh yes. For example. Aromatics Elixir is a bit ‘goddamn’ in the heat, but it is amazing in the biting cold.
Yes. Alaia Paris blooms beautifully in the heat for me. However, it seems like the most interesting notes are AWOL in cold weather. It smells like something completely different.
Aside from the obvious Zoologist samples, I realized I don’t have anything with animals in the name at all. So I am wearing Aromatics Elixir today.
I am going anti-animal in Iris Poudre today.
I have a feeling you’ll have a lot of company. ????
It is snowing like crazy here! The lovely lake effect bands of snow have set up shop here for the day apparently. ???? Perfect weather for holiday baking. I’m wearing Chergui and loving it!
ooooo..what are you baking?
Yummy apple cinnamon bread!
Tauerville Amber Flash today. Working through some ambers this week.
Late to this- Happy Tuesday!
1) Woke up this morning and got from under the down comforter – and woosh- right back under! It is COLD this morning!
2) SOTD: Bourcheron layered over The Body Shop Almond Body butter. Perfect combo for this VERY chilly day!
Very chilly indeed. The entire van iced over. That body butter is the best!
Wearing White Alaia. Completed my Scent Bar challenge, not sure what I’ll do next. I think I may continue on using samples.
I don’t have a single thing with an animal in the name! Nuit de Longchamps is named after a racecourse, so I’ll save that for Friday. Meanwhile, I think I’ll go with Alien Eau Luminescente today. I forget which year it came out, but it has a mandarin note.
In Beige, for my third-to-last day at work until the holidays.
But who’s counting…????
Today’s SOTD is Safari mixed with yesterday evening’s remnants of Niki de st Phalle extrait. References to animals two different ways. 😉
I distributed cookies made over the weekend (my year-end thank you to HR/Payroll/Employee relations). Got a few ‘my you smell nice!’ comments. 🙂
Nice!
SOTD is Jesus del Pozo “Arabian Nights”.
Top: rose and thyme;
Mid: cedar, sandalwood, guaiac wood, patchouli, vetiver and saffron;
Base: oud, labdanum, amber and musk.
So, this morning at 6am when my taxi was 5 minutes late I range the company and they said the drivers just hadn’t shown up. It was very cold overnight (-13C in the countryside) but th roads were fine so I wasn’t impressed. Had to dig my car out of 6″ of snow, drive to airport, run to check-in (whcih had just closed but they were able to help), drop bag off at oversized baggage, apologise and ask everyone in security express lane if I could jump the queue… you get the picture. Then flight was delayed 15 minutes so I needn’t have bothered, but you can’t know that until it’s too late.
In a further humiliation, after digging car out I went to change my now wet socks and while bending over the strain on my, erm, ambitiously tight shirt was too much and it rent asunder. I mean, not merely buttons coming undone or even popping off, but the fabric tore apart hulk-style. I know, I know: more exercise, less chocolate.
What a morning. I suppose that if your shirt had to tear, it was best while you were still home. I’ve popped buttons off at work before. May your day soon be much better – you are smelling wonderful at least!
Thank you, and yes – better at home than at work, for all concerned! :^D
Oh my gosh! I had to smile at the Hulk reference ???? wishing you less eventful days!
Late as usual but at least wearing another Elephant, this one by oh! you know. Elephant, Camel, Bat, et al I saw an elephant playing in snow at the Portland zoo on FB, my Elephant might be happy with today’s lovely snowfall.
If it were not so cold I would have considered my Berdoues Assam for the elephants on the bottle 🙂
Another day in paradise so I’ll have to catch up later on the comments.
After reading the comments on Hiram Green’s new scent Slowdive, I was inspired to wear Shangri La. I imagine that there are all kinds of wonderful animsls threre.
There must be!
In OJ Woman for a trying day–busy at work and sick kid at home. OJ, give me strength!
You smell fabulous, if that helps any. 🙂
Agreed!
Back to the sample stash for today. SOTD = Reminiscence Tonka. I liked this a lot more in the autumn. Somehow it seems out of sync with today’s weather. Phooey. I will make a better choice tomorrow.
It is darned cold out there!
So so sick with either a bad cold or the flu. Fever, congestion, the works. No use in wasting any juice on myself. But I love reading about what scents you’re all rocking today. You all smell great!
So sorry you are sick. Hoping you get better soon.
Feel better soon KellyC!
I hope it passes quickly!
Spending the end of the day in the dregs of a SL Vitriol d’Oeillet sample and confirming that it’s not for me. 🙂
It wasn’t for me either.
SOTD = Chanel Number Nineteen Eau de Parfum
(Skip this section if you read my SOTD yesterday)
Beside the Zoologist sample set, I don’t think I have perfumes with animal names. I have decided to participate by wearing No. 19 as long as I can provide the name of an animal using the available letter in the name.
Today’s word is coincidentally ELEPHANT (for real!)
So I have not written a commuting woes in a few weeks. Today, we have a doozy. OMG! I am going to count this as Commuting Woes No. 410:
Who the H-LL ever sits on their hand on a two-seater halfway through a train ride. The CREEP next to me, that’s who! What the H-LL? That hand was between me and the creep. As soon as that hand went down, I looked down and shifted my body so that my bag encroached in his space. The hand stayed where it was. Finally, I pulled out a little tabloid and put it between me and the creep whom I looked in the eye and said it is not normal for him to be sitting on his hand like that; this fell on deaf ears because he had his ear buds in OR he chose to ignore me because he is a creep. Next time, I would not be so subtle. What a CREEP!
To clarify, as long as I can form the name of an animal using the letters in Chanel No. 19 spelled out, I will wear No. 19 🙂
