Tuesday! Plus, World Diabetes Day, and Pickle Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Dawn Spencer Hurwitz's retro-inspired Chinchilla.
Reminder: 11/17 will be Dealer's Choice: propose a theme for a Friday community project, and wear a fragrance that fits your theme. (Another repeat — we did this in 2015.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the jade green porcelain tea bowl is €10 at Dammann Frères.
LIQUID COURAGE- no 19 EDP (enough said)
LIQUID LEFTOVER- Berdoues Arz el Rab (lasting forever on my fingers from a decant I made for a good friend early this morning)
and if I knew how to add on the TM symbol I would put it next to the phrase “spine stiffening no 19” for hajusuuri whom I also have to thank for my now empty decant of this beauty 🙂
I agree! No.19 EdP is great for those “serious moments”. It does its work really good.
“Invisible armor.”
and pickle day! I once ate a pound of pickles in one sitting and developed a “rash”…when my mom took he to the doctor he informed her that I had chicken pox !!!
At least it was not “pickle allergies” 😀
Agreed. A pickle allergy would be tragic, IMHO.
😀
It would!
CM8 – I did that with a jar of olives and then drank all the juice!
Justice was served up the next morning…
I am ROLFL at your last sentence! I hope it wasn’t too bad!
it was over 40 years ago and it’s etched in my mind.
Oh boy-LOL!!!!
Great idea! I think I’ll wear liquid courage today also. Shout out to hajusuuri who also gave me a generous sample.???? You smell great CM8.
and so do you, kelly!
Cold but sunny day. That is an improvement!
In Floris Honey Oud from the splitmeet. The oud is not strong and the honey is bright and cheerful. I was expecting a heavier fragrance, but this is so well balance and beautiful. I am enjoying it greatly and see myself wearing it a lot this season.
This sounds really good! I think Elisa P wore it the other day and also made it sound quite appealing 🙂
It is actually very appealing. The oud is not overwhelming at all and the combination with honey is really nice. Worth a try.
It does sound good – I love oud. Onto the list it goes . . .
You smell lovely. Agree about it being well-balanced. I didn’t care for the Montale Honey Oud, myself so was surprised by how much I liked this one. The weather seems slightly less depressing today. Slightly, lol. Hope your spirits are better.
Thank you! I am staying home today. Just could not make it to work. Trying to cheer up and feel better because I have to be at work tomorrow.
I did not like Montale Honey Oud much but Floris Honey Oud makes me smile!
good for you!!! we are all entitled to mental health days…equally as important as physical health…do something nice for yourself like brewing a cup of tea and reading a good book or taking a luxurious nap or hot bath 🙂
Thank you CM8. Relaxing and enjoying simple things at home today. As you say we also need time to take care of our mental well-being.
Ditto this!
Agree with you that today’s weather is better than yesterday’s was. I’m hoping for a lot of sunny days this winter.
Let’s hope for bright, sunny winter days to come…
SOTD NV Rahele from the ever generous Petunia. Agree, it’s pretty.
I ordered a bday gift from an ebay seller who had a 100% ratung. It was a special edition vintage Old Spice: 2 bottles which came in a piggy bank. He likes kitsch and Old Spice. It arrived yesterday, the box saturated with Old Spice and the bank was broken to pieces and both bottles had the stoppers dislodged and were empty. She wrapped it in a thin layer of air cell wrap, most of the cells came deflated so lots of space for the item to rattle around and break. I sent her a message yesterday requesting a refund. Still wairing to hear back from her. Grrrr. So disappointed. Meanwhile, my living room smells like Old Spice. It kind of seems like the men’s version of Opium. I really like it!
Such a waste of perfume!! I’d rather pay an extra dollar for shipping costs for sellers to actually wrap things properly. (I’ve not had a perfume disaster but other fragile items that arrived broken because the seller cheaped out on packaging materials.)
Yeah, here, too. The bottles should have been taken out and wrapped separately since they didn’t seem that secure in the larger piggy bank which was rather thin hard plastic. Judging from her other responses to negative feedback, she seems defensive-writes in all caps. Oy. I’m hoping she acts reasonably here.
Oh no! I feel so bad for you. That was a real waste. I hope you can get the refund without any problems. At least your living room smells nice on Old Spice!
Thank you. I’m tempted to get another vintage bottle for my husband, to borrow occasionally ????
AH!
I had something similar happen to me and I was really upset
It’s a bummer, for sure.
Fingers crossed that you get a refund! Also, agreeing with you about the Old Spice and Opium being connected.
Mine crossed, too! I’d never really paid attention to Old Spice before. Not sure how the current one compares. Have you tried it?
I haven’t smelled it in years, but I’m heading out to the store soon and give it a sniff, I will let you know if its at least still recognizable.
please report back! I am sure it is so cheap that if it is halfway decent I might be tempted..I have been watching Redolessence youtube videos and he gives great ideas for “smells like” that are MUCH MORE affordable than the niche counterparts…
hey that might be another good community project “SMELLS LIKE”… wear a cheaper “dup” which would also be highly informative for those of us on a tight budget 🙂
OK, I’m reporting back. I would not have known the current version was Old Spice, but my memory of it is decades old. That said, I like it. At first, I got menthol and soap(I tried it on the back of my hand) but after five minutes or so, I got the spice. To my nose it was cinnamon, and clove like. I actually really liked it, especially for the price!
thank you…adding that to my list of CHEAP BUT GOOD…..
Thanks for checking it out!
What a pain! This is one of the reasons I am apprehensive about ebay…and not surprised about the Old Spice /Opium connection as Old Spice was originally marketed for women when it first came out.
I hope you get your refund!
This is my first bad experience. Well, it’ll be bad if she refuses to take responsibility. The last mishap was a decant that leaked despite adequate packaging. The seller reponded promptly and refunded me without an argument.
What an awful disappointment. Sad, maddening–and the broken scent like salt in a wound. If you cannot get satisfaction from this 100 percenter, what other course can you take? So sorry.
Thanks. If she doesn’t respond to my message I’ll have to dispute the charge with PayPal and/or the ebay resolution center. I’ll give her a couple if days to reply.
That’s so disappointing. I’m often shocked at how badly people pack things. My husband has a bottle of Old Spice in the medicine cabinet. I just tried a little…too sharp for me. Hope the refund isn’t an issue.
You know me….I’m an Old Spice Amber gal.
Ha! Yeah. I’m curious about that amber now. The vintage didn’t smell sharp, but it wasn’t fresh out of the bottle either.
You shouldn’t worry too much, you’re covered under Ebay buyer protection anyway. As someone who sells often on Ebay, trust me, Ebay is slanted almost entirely in favor of the buyer. As soon as you start the official ‘request a refund’ process with the seller (not just emailing them), the money is practically back in your hands. (Yes, grumpy seller here who is currently dealing with a scumbag buyer who has demanded a refund AND demanded to keep the supposedly-defective perfume which was just fine when it left my hands… at least I was able to require them to return it [though I have to pay for the return])
Completely agree with pixel’s assessment. You have open and shut case there and if you do not hear back from the seller, just open the dispute with eBay.
Pixel, sorry to hear about bad buyer. I was selling something on eBay 2 weeks ago and was really freaked out when someone with 0% FB was bidding on my very expensive item. I ended up cancelling their bid, and man, they sent me a lot of harassing emails, lying through their teeth, leaving their phone number and demanding I call them. Was quite a twilight zone experience.
Ugh, that’s awful! I have all my buyer-filters set to the most restrictive values possible, but on Ebay, that’s not a real high bar.
Thanks. It said to wait about 3 days for the seller to respond. What’s 0% FB? Is that feedback? Doesn’t eBay restrict people who are repeat offenders or suspected scammers?
Oof. I’ve heard some if those horror stories before, which is why I haven’t tried to sell on ebay. Have you tried using some if the Facebook groups instead?
I’m not in any FB perfume groups, maybe I should be. Any recommendations?
Nearly all of my Ebay sales have been fine. But there are some bad-faith folks out there.
I sent you an email.
Yep, ditto this. I bought a bottle of Diptyque Essences Insensees 2014 which I happened to be home for when the mail carrier knocked on the door. I knew immediately there was a problem since the box was damp and reeked, and he told me his truck smelled great. The bottle was completely empty. The seller was an *ss about it, but I took pictures and got a complete refund.
That’s a bummer. And such a nice one to lose. Glad you got a refund in the end!
Crazy disappointing! Sorry to hear this. What is wrong with people that they don’t think things like this through.
Well, glad you’re enjoying the scent nevertheless.
Yeaj, not sure what she was thinking. Looked like recycled bubble wrap with the large air cells.I guess she figured if a couple of the bubbles were still full, that would suffice?
What a drag about your package getting demolished. Best of luck in getting it resolved.
Thanks Jalapeno!
Hey Twin! I wore Rahele today too. I had an appointment today and thought that it would work well for that.
I’m sorry that the Old Spice was broken in transit. That’s a shame. It reminds me of my father. I grew up smelling it on him and always liked it. I hope the dealer responds favorably. If not, you can file a claim to get your money refunded. The seller was careless In wrapping your items.
I dived into Macy’s after my appointment and smelled Dune this morning. It made me think of you!
Twinsies! And Rahele always make me think of you ???? My husband associates Old Spice with his father and it’s one of the few fragrances he actually likes.
Funny, I hardly wore Dune at all this year. I wore it a lot last year. Still love it though. I’ll go give it a fond sniff tonight.
Maybe you’ll be more inclined to wear Dune once the temps drop a little more. It’s still early yet.
I also smelled No. 5 body oil. It was heavenly. The only thing that kept me from purchasing was that they mixed golden glitter into the oil. Micro tiny glitter but not my style. Anyway, it was gorgeous!
I love the body oil! Oakland Fresca gave me a small decant of it and I was bummed it was discontinued. I don’t think I’d want the glitter either.
I continue my project of wearing samples I haven’t worn in a while. So, L’Artisan Mon Numero 10 before shower and Dioressence EDT (vintage – 1984) after shower. Mon Numero 10 – sample finished, and now I’m tempted to buy a decant. As for Dioressence, it’s one of those old-school scents I like but do not wear often. Today I sprayed it lavishly and it smells great!
Glannys, I wore Mon Numero 10 yesterday! I have a small bottle; send me an email if you’d like me to make a little decant for you…..I’m lisadarty in the realm of hawt mayle.
Lisa, how kind of you! Unfortunately I am not in the US, otherwise I’d take up on your offer.
Triple strength coffee

Terre d’Hermes parfum, sample spray

I like Terre d’heroes on woman too
That sounds even better than the Hermes.
best autocorrect ever!!!
LOL!
You smell great on Terre d’Hermes! A favorite of mine from the line!
You’re still having fun with all those emojis, aren’t you? I would do the same if I could.
Thanks for the love, Everyone !!!
😀
Some time this morning to go through samples from the Nordstrom scent event. I went a little crazy since I will shower it all away soon. MMM Replica lazy Sunday morning (kind of White Linenish?); Cashmere Mist; Tiffany & Co.; Aerin Rose de Grasse; YSL Mon Paris; Prada La Femme; Valentino Donna. My arms and shoulders reek! Mostly smell like something I’ve smelled before, and nothing I want to devote an entire day to. Into the “I’m done with you” pile! After the shower I will try BV eau de Velours.
Report back on the Velours please!
Yes, please!
After several hours I’m going to agree with Elisa. The opening was nice and different – a little fruity – but hours in it feels very much like the original (I have a mini already). I used a couple of sprays and it’s quite persistent, so longevity isn’t a problem!
Yeah, BV is very tenacious on me.
I liked the BV Velours. Maybe even more than the original. The slightly fruity rose note makes it rounder and a little warmer to me. I found the later stages to be the same as original. If I didn’t own the original already, I’d consider this one. Also curious to hear your impression. Reek on!
Good description of BV Velours. I like it too, but still very similar to the original.
I really like Lazy Sunday Morning – I bought a rollerball to tide me over until I find my dream muguet.
How do you find out about when scent events will be? I have a cc, I get emails from Nordstrom, but don’t think I have seen this advertised? I know when the anniversary sale, but that’s the only time I have etched to memory.
I actually heard about it on Facebook; there is a group called Eau My Soul.
Thanks! I’ll check it out
Putting BV eau de Velours on the “Sniff if I see it” list!
Re-united and it feels so good SOTD Rose Barbare by Guerlain
My better half is taking the morning off, I am going to Via Quadronno for a coffee, orwashers bakery and the post office. I am going to TRY very hard not to stop into Clydes and buy anymore of there half off merchandise. Seriously, when else can you buy guerlain make up at half off? Don’t answer that or else you will enable me. The last time I was in there they still had VdN and French Kiss (which I didn’t like), but I never smelled VdN and won’t blind buy.
DON’T. STOP. AT . CLYDE’S. DON’T. DO. IT. DON’T. DON’T. DON’T.
there, did that help???? 😉
LOL!
Yes! That did help..
I say go ahead and stop in:).
Well, if you insist! Ha
It’s too cold, so no spending money at Clyde’s today. Money saved for a second latte
There you go!!!!!! I think I deserve an “un-enabler” pin for that one 🙂
I was able to do other errands, pick a present for my god daughter, buy new mediation chimes..and buy some bread. One regular and one pumpkin! Kiddos will be so so happy
You deserve the un enabler pin CM8!
It’s still open??!! Wow. Deals must be amazing.
Chinchilla is on my Christmas list – hope you’re enjoying it!
Day #2 of Vanilla Week is Diptyque’s Eau Duelle, the scent that made me reconsider my vanilla hate. Really like the herbal notes alongside the vanilla, it’s not too sweet, and the dry down doesn’t smell like plain vanilla extract.
Have you tried Un Bois de Vanille, by Serge Lutens? It’s not too sweet.
I haven’t but I would like to – I love Serge Lutens and I really enjoyed Bois de Violette and Bois Oriental.
I can send you a bit of it, but it will be a few weeks before I’m able bodied. I’m at nlmcook at sbcglobal dawt net. ????
It is fun! I am really taken with yesterday’s Habibi, too.
My suggestion for a community project, which I mentioned once on here but plan to use this week to thoroughly promote, is to wear a perfume that reminds you of a dream you had. Last night I dreamed about a trip to a lake and learning to parasail, so I am wearing Sel Marin.
I really like your project!
What an excellent idea !!
We need to find a way to expand it to include people who do not remember their dreams — which is many people!
I wasn’t thinking it would have to be a recent dream – one from anytime in your life!
Maybe we could include daydreams?
Oh dear. I dreamt about Godzilla. Seriously. But like in a way where Godzilla knew me, so didn’t eat me. It was crazy. I have no idea what scent goes with that.
Ha! That’s funny. Winder what that means?
I dreamt this past weekend that Prince Charles had taken over this food truck and they only sold tea. It was really disappointing since apparently it had been a really fun and colorful spot and it had become rather dour in his ownership.
Dying!
Hilarious!
Something Tom Ford, I’m sure 😉
Being lazy , before taking the girl to the dentist, and the boy to conferences. Wearing what I love again today, with Poison Tendre. Two sprays, that should last until at least tomorrow morning, lol.
I am wearing scents that I own but have not yet worn in 2017 ( thank goodness for spreadsheets as my memory couldn’t cope with this one)
First snow of the season today, and I awoke with a cold, so I am wearing several spritzes from my decant of Hiram Green’s Shangri-La – wishing I was in a tropical paradise.
There is something about Hiram Greens that makes me feel grounded.
I bought the last bottle of Voyage that Twisted Lily had. His scents seem to be one of the only natural lines that like my skin
Have you tried La Maroc Pour Elle? something about that one reminds me ALOT of Voyage (must be the lavender absolute which is very different to my nose from the regular lavender essential oil)
Feel better soon, hannahmom!
Thanks – it seems to just be a run-of-the-mill cold. *Knocks on wood*
I am a big fan of Hiram Green. I have not smelled a bad fragrance from him yet – granted is is not doing a gazillion of releases each year …
I hope your cold is gone ASAP!
SOTD is DS & Durga Coriander from a sample. This is just such a lovely skin scent. It makes me think of Byredo Gypsy Water in that it is similarly quiet and cozy.
Oh, hello little lemming. I have a sample of the GW from the swapmeet I need to explore now. Thanks! ????
Yay, so nice to read that somebody is wearing DS & Durga Coriander! This is actually my most complimented fragrance (and I am always super surprised since I also assume it is a skin scent).
It really is lovely! It doesn’t seem to last long, unfortunately
I almost ordered a sample of this the other day, but decided to restrain myself. May need to reconsider that decision now…
I love that one and have been surprised that it’s rarely mentioned here. Perhaps it’s the name? It was part of my Reek Havoc project, and I set it aside to test again on its own with no competitors on my skin. My recollection of it is that it was very green which I love. Now I’m wondering what people think of as skin scents. Is it the sillage, or particular notes/accords?
Usually for me, a skin scent is one that doesn’t seem to project. Sometimes scents that seem quiet to me actually leave quite the trail. MFK Baccarat Rouge is one of those for me.
I’m wearing a small bit of Youth Dew today. Looking over the previous Friday projects to see what hasn’t been done yet. Trying to come up with an idea for Friday but everything I’ve thought of has already been done.
That is my MIL signature scent
She sprays with a heavy hand and YD normally arrives in the room before she does
Oh I bet. It’s powerful stuff.
Just needed something easy and comforting today, so Chanel Coromandel it is! Patchouli and white chocolate, mmmm.
Mmmm, is right. You smell fab.
You smell absolutely amazing
SOTD is What We Do in Paris Is Secret. Corresponding poll: Oh the Places You’ll Go (wear a perfume with a place name)
Love that idea. What We Do in Paris wasn’t for me, though I do love the name!
This is my first time trying it; not bad but not knocking my socks off either.
Smelled too much like Kenzo Amour (+cigarette ashes) to me.
I love that idea, too! (Immediately opened my spreadsheet to see how many I had that would qualify…)
A lot of Paris perfumes probably!
I like this idea! We could expand it to include fragrances that remind us of a very specific place – for example, not smells like the ocean or the woods, but smells like my visit to the beach at Carmel-by-the-Sea. Etc.
I really like this one, but could not convince myself to get a FB – this was one of the first samples I ordered from Luckyscent.
I’m trying out Chanel Gabrielle today. It’s fine, but not inspiring.
Yesterday I tried out Tom Ford Vert de Fleur. Anyone know any cousins to this that won’t break the bank? It reminds me of 28 La Pausa, I think, with better lasting power and more of a kick. Though it’s been years since I’ve worn 28 La Pausa, so my memory is probably blurred…
Hi Eswift83!
I’ve sampled TF Vert de Fleur couple months ago in Nordies. In my opinion it is not similar to 28 La Pausa edt, which I love and wear often, however, VdF was very similar to another Chanel- Cristalle edt, with more a lot more heft of course 🙂
Wearing L’Artisan au Bord de l’Eau. Despite its name, this is not bad (definitely my favorite of the last three from L’Artisan). I pick up quite a bit of orange blossom, and sometimes I smell a tomato (probably the “herbs”).
Oops, my comment was not intended to appear here; but I totally agree with what plyushka said about TF Vert de Fleur and La Pausa!
Ahhh, thank you! That is very helpful.
Agree with the Cristalle comparison. But maybe more so the edp over the edt.
Right, I agree on the Cristalle comparison as well, but also would suggest the edp instead of the edt.
If it’s similar to La Pausa, then Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue is your remedy 🙂
Ahh, I do need to try the Absolue… I don’t think I ever did try it on my skin!
I’m in Angel Muse today. I think I smell great, if I do say so myself. I’m sure it’s been done (my pathetic memory just can’t recall) but maybe do a project with flankers we like better than the original?
Additionally, I’ve gotten my guy on perfume a bit. He knows I’m quite obsessed, obviously, and I keep giving him samples I think he will like. He actually sniffed with me for a bit in Sephora this weekend before he got bored and left. He got two samples- Grey Vetiver (he loves Sycomore and wanted to try other vetiver) and TF Noir Anthracite. I’m just proud he likes to smell good. 😉
You smell wonderful! And that is so great you guys enjoyed a smelling excursion together, fun 🙂
You smell delicious!
We have definitely done that one, but we can do any beloved project a second time 🙂
I thoughts so, I just couldn’t remember participating! I love all the project ideas people are throwing out….so fun!
I would pick Angel Muse over Angel too!
I have never smelled the original Angel. Isn’t that odd? But I fell for Angel Muse and got a small bottle last year. You smell yummy.
Angel is a powerhouse for SURE lol. I’d still like a mini. I can handle one spray in cold weather and that’s about it. AM is great though.
AM is so good! I think I’ve got a lifetime supply with just my two manufacturer samples since you barely need more than a half spray per use.
I know. I felt fairly self conscious with the one spray this morning but it’s dried down beautifully!
Wearing Beloved today, which makes me wonder… Why bother wearing anything else?* This smells soooo goooood!
*Answer: Because I want to smell EVERYTHING.
Lovely fragrance!
You smell beautiful today and I love that you answered your own question. ????
Vol de Nuit edt today.
You smell amaaaaaazing!
There is a bottle of that half off at the pharmacy in my hood, I was going to blind buy it but I refuse to do that anymore! I haven’t smelled it yet but I am sure you smell great
Maybe swing by Bergdorf’s to sample it first?
Could do that!
I’m in Atelier Figuier Ardent today. It looks like my weekly project so far is to empty out travel sprays. Not terribly interesting, but I keep track of the fragrance and skin care samples and products I go through each calendar month.
It’s always satisfying to go through the empties. ????
I clearly have too many samples; I rarely manage to drain anything (although to be honest when I find something FB-worthy I don’t always wait until after I have finished the sample. This leaves me with fodder for the freebie meets!). I do like the Atelier, you smell great!
Do you like the Figuer Ardent?
Yes, I do…it’s less citrusy than the typical Atelier, a little sharply figgy at first. It dries down nicely, though. Softly figgy and woody. It’s supposed to have an anise note, but I don’t notice it.
Etro Ambra today.
You smell gooood!
I am having a quiet, cozy morning wearing Chanel Coco EDT and drinking Shalimar tea.
You smell great!
I’m wearing Fiore di Portofino from Moresque. This would work for Elisa’s “Places You’ll Go” challenge. I really love this one because it seems so well blended- I don’t smell the notes, I smell the whole entity. And I get lots of compliments on it.
That sounds lovely!
World Pickle Day? I can absolutely get behind that! I love anything pickled…
Today’s SOTD is Chanel’s 31 Rue Cambon. I so love the old edt version… *sigh* I would have gotten a big bottle but I have the monster Coromandel to get through, and that bottle alone will last a lifetime!
Me too (on the pickles!)!
KellyC – I make killer pickled jalapenos and also cauliflower! My uncle’s recipe that I treasure.
Family recipes are the best!
Sounds amazing! Feel free to send some to New Mexico ha! I made a batch of spicy picked carrots earlier this year and they turned out sooooo good. Never met a pickle I didn’t like.
You’re wearing the EdP of Rue Cambon? How is it? I have a bottle of the EdT that I’m hoarding. Is the EdP going to be a worthy replacement when the time comes or should I continue to hoard?
Hi Luna,
I am wearing the EdT. Every version of the EdP I’ve tried (so far), has not worked for me.
In general, for Chanel fragrances, the edt or extraits work best. EDPs are always ‘meh’, for whatever reason.
I will continue to hoard then. Thanks!
Love pickles!!
Cold, windy, damp day. Pulled out my vintage bottle of Dior Dolce Vita and spritzed with glee. Now sitting in my office cocooned in a subtle spice bomb. Love it.
Dolce Vita was the best!
Oh, Dolce Vita was so good.
I got my little bottle of Tauer in the mail yesterday. it’ so cute in the little tin!
Going to open the Cuir de Russie today. The fresh sound of unwrapping – ahhhh.
Did you get L’Air du Desert Marocain or AT Attar?
LdDM. wasn’t going to spend the clams for Attar.
I also got my mini of LADDM yesterday. Isn’t adorable?
Enjoy Cuir de Russie. It is a wonderful perfume. You will smell fantastic!
…and the land was full of delightfully scented mailboxes yesterday thanks to Mr. Tauer.
I am “choosing” not to listen to you as I did not cave in and buy that adorable little bottle after I finished my sample of LDDM..how I managed to do that is short of a miracle 🙂
Do NOT listen to us. You do NOT need it! 🙂
THANK YOU 🙂
There’s a mini? Welp that’s an instapurchase for me. Cheap too! So excited!
You will love such a lovely mini… 😉
Hey I got mine yesterday too! We must have all ordered immediately after Robin made it the daily lemming 🙂 I’m such a sucker for a mini bottle.
Hope you all enjoy!
Looks like we did not think it twice and ordered it right away 😀
You too enjoy it!
I saw that offer and want it just because it’s adorable looking.
I’m waiting for my mini bottle, too. I love LADDM but knew I would never use the large bottle.
I got my mini of LADDM yesterday too!!! The bottle is adorable, perfect size.
This morning it was only +1*C and I felt like wearing something big. So I lavishly sprayed Histoires de Parfums Rosam all over myself. This is the perfume with biggest volume that I have in my collection.
oh my
stay warm!
In Samsara on this chilly, dreary day. Snuff said.
Dreary here too, glad you found the antidote!
I’m still strolling in the woods today. I’ve left behind yesterday’s huge blackcurrant patch (Vagabond Prince Enchanted Forest) but I can still smell it in the distance. SOTD is Maison Martin Margiela Soul of the Forest. This is a really great balsam fir / blackcurrant scent, less likely to scare the villagers than Enchanted Forest.
Oh, then I need to try that one! Is it sweet?
Not particularly. It’s pretty easy to wear.
After 24 hours and long shower, I finally could no longer smell Civet–a perfume I enjoy—but geeesh it is tenacious. I used the last of my sample and promptly ordered another from Zoologist.
Today the cold morning and blasting heat from our heater made me feel contrarian. So perfume is a very lightly applied spritz of A la Nuit in my effort to defy the forces of winter.
In other random news, I have a relative coming to the US next month from the UK and I am on that dangerous blind buy search for something for her to bring me that is difficult to get here (at least in CA). I ordered a bottle of Caldey Island Lavender (not blind), but am itching to buy more. Anyone tried the Union fragrances? Gothic Bluebell?
Blind buys are so risky so why not save money and simply buy yourself a ticket to London? Best to be sensible about these things.
We wouldn’t want Oakland Fresca to be lonely, so we should all just go on a sniffing trip to London. It is the only practical thing to do.
Absolutely. And if you’re in London anyway you might as well add in Paris…and the. If you’re in Paris it’s only a few hours to Provence and from there Italy is just a hop…all sensible options compared to blind buying.
And totally central to USA and New Zealand. Perfect places to meet up and go perfume exploring. I mean, while you’re at it… you know….
I definitely do not want to be lonely. Thank you Pixel!
The Bluebell one is nice but I liked Celtic Fire..it is smoky, though from what i remember.
Idea for the day: a perfume that you think would be better suited to a different format e.g. It would be better as a scented candle rather than a lerfume, or air freshner, fly spray, shampoo etc. this is because I was in the Body Shop yesterday and tried the pumpkin/vanilla perfume which I thought would work better as icecream. But I was hungry.
Haha! Great idea. Did you sneak a taste?
Have to wear a VC&A scent today as I’m heading over this evening to see their jewelry exhibit – the Noah’s Ark items. And to hear a gentleman talk about his life collecting jewelry. I love VC&A jewelry. It’s so beautifully artistic. And it’s free!
So, it’s Orchidée Vanille for me today.
My husband is ditching me. He has found a new friend who is a film studies professor and is visiting New York. They are ODing on films. Tonight is at Light Indistry in Greenpoint…hell be waving at you Elisa P.
This is one vanilla I have not been able to get my hands on yet 🙂 How would you rate the sweetness?
I think others have found it sweet. I don’t. It was the first vanilla I liked. I only have a small decant.
I think it has a vanilla ‘cologne’ aspect…so it’s breezy rather than foody. Then the orchid kicks in for a bit more depth. It’s not a loud scent.
It’s sweet and sometimes hits me the wrong way, but 99.9% of the time it’s really beautiful and has great lasting power.
Will wave back! I used to live 2 blicks from there. Never been. I’m not film-buffy enough. Or at all.
Where’s this VC&A thing at?
It’s at Cedar Lake on W 26th. It came up in my FB feed, so I went ahead and looked at it. I think Robin put a photo up one day of the elephants from the collection. That interested me. Not sure how long the exhibit goes.
I just went through the exhibit. And it is totally worth going. Stunning pieces of art. It’s going until the 19th. ArkVCA.com to check it out.
Thanks! Will check it out.
Amber Chocolate by Via del Profumo It is liquid death by chocolate – but would not bring your blood sugar level up. Wish it had more projection and staying power, but it is beautiful while it lasts
Wow. Amber and chocolate? Sounds lovely
Agree, it’s really delicious. I don’t find it too sweet, but definitely high calorie in the best possible way. 🙂
Yum. Want.
I’m spending most of today at a planning session – I seem to be unusual in that I actually enjoy these days 🙂 I’m thinking 31 Rue Cambon for a serious substantial perfume that isn’t overwhelming.
Urrghh. I hate meetings. Better you than me, I guess! 🙂
I am still into iris, but, of late, I am craving all things vanilla.
Today I am in Vanille 44 via a sample from a kind NSTer.
I have decided it is just ok and not FBW. Seems to lack oomph and depth on me a few hours in.
Last week I wore Orchidee Vanille and that one is a beautiful slow burner of sorts that ultimately went the entire day. That one is most definitely sponge…err full bottle worthy. ????
Oh! Thanks for the oblique “sponge-worthy” reference which made me laugh. I think Orchidee Vanille is lovely too.
I’m in LADDM for day 2 of my tea & spices week. In keeping with the theme, I brewed myself a pot of chai tea this morning.
I am making a pre dinner cup of chai right now 🙂
Chai is perfect at any time of day.
Dealer’s choice: wear a perfume that has the same initials you do, either screen name or real, as you prefer. For example, I could wear Nahema, or, better yet, Norma Kamali.
OOO I like that 🙂
Sounds like fun!
Interesting!
SotD = Bois d’Iris by The Different Company.
Very classy choice!
Thank you!
The other Bois d’iris (by VC&A) gets more mentions here. I still need to try that one 🙂
And I need to try the one by TDC!
I’m still mad at my TDC Bois d’Iris because my decant of it showed up uninvited after I thought I had invited the VC&A version. Unfortunately I have no staff to accuse of the error, so I will blame inanimate objects.
How rude of TDC bdi to visit uninvited!
But maybe the mailman delivered the invite at the WRONG Bois d’iris. How did he not know about there being two Bdi’s??!!! 😉
Rose Jam for me today.
Just back from such a great CA trip. Loved, loved, loved the PCH drive, and my brother’s wedding was just amazing overlooking a winery. What beautiful country CA is. Only disappointment was In-N-Out burgers which I’ve been dying to try and compare to Shake Shack. Not even in the same ballpark, sorry to say.
I have never understood the rabid fandom that In-N-Out seems to generate. Awful burgers!
I was just having this conversation yesterday as they just opened up a Shake Shack here in San Diego. Haven’t tried it yet, but I hope that they are better than In-N-Out, since it is twice the price 😉 I like In-N- Out, but it’s certainly not the best burger around. For the price though, it is great.
Can’t even compare the two. Everything, the meat, lettuce, tomato, bun, is so much better at Shack Shake and worth the higher price. Excited for San Diego!
I’m waiting for the hype to die down since it just opened a few weeks ago – I’ve heard the lines have been insanely long. Maybe next week!
I will say that In-N-Out fries are terrible. Not worth the calories.
So bad! I also had a strawberry shake which was so artificial tasting.. yuck.
Sorry, In-N-Out fans!
Glad you enjoyed your trip! I’m from there and don’t quite get the hype either. But, I also think the Shake Shack burgers are overrated.
Hello Y’all!
Been away for a few days…busy with the Mommy life while the hubs was out of town and such….
Anyhoo, forgot to scent today, but there is a nice lingering of L’Artisan’s Venenum on my jacket. WOW! This is beautiful stuff! A bit pricey, but worth a splurge at some point.
Bought my 1st Christmas gift last week…A bottle of Replica’s At the Barber, for the hubs. He’s gonna smell FANTASTIC! 🙂 Just one day of the Sephora VIB sale, if anyone needs 20% off a fragrance….
I tried Jazz Club and By the Fireplace this weekend and really enjoyed both! I’m sure your hubby will smell great!
I have a rollerball of Jazz Club and LOVE IT! I haven’t smelled By the Fireplace yet….
I blind bought a rollerball of Beach Walk and don’t love it..it’s just OK. But Replica is great stuff as a brand!
Try Soul of the Forest (my SOTD) if you like pine-y scents. Very nice.
Oooooh! I just looked that one up at Basenotes.net….That looks right up my alley!
Not sure I’ve ever seen pimento berries as a note before? Interesting!
I understand you..my better half is traveling. Lucky my neighbor stepped in tonight and said dinner at my place and bring the whole gang so you can get a break!
Today’s theme is My Power is Out and Has Been for 15 Hours So I’m Grabbing Whatever I Can…. which was Citizen Queen by Juliette Has a Gun. This one falls in the underrated category. And according to the power outage map my power was restored about an hour after I got to work. The worst part will be throwing away the entire contents of the refrigerator when I get home, including an uneaten crock pot meal that my boyfriend spent time preparing on Sunday. Then we get to go to the grocery to restock.
Ugh. Sorry about your power loss and lost food.
Thank you. I’m trying to put things in perspective, but my bf is going to dwell on it for longer than me seeing as he made the big grocery trip by himself on Sunday and prepared the food.
The day has definitely improved since the morning though. I’m so nice and warm in the office. The thermostat in my bedroom read 59 this morning!
My husband would have still eaten that for dinner! He claims food doesn’t go bad as fast a we think it does. And I actually believe him on that one being the science guy.
59 Brrrr! Glad your day got better!
We lost power for a few days recently. I feel your pain. I agree with Elisa’s husband. We lose power at least a few times a year. As long as you don’t continually open the fridge, the food will keep for a while. Well, maybe not fish. ????
Sorry to hear about that, what a drag. We bought a generator in case something like that happens. So far we haven’t had to use it – I am hoping that just owning it will be enough to ward off the evil eye.
Angelique Noire for me today, just needed some extra sweetness:)
I love that one…I just want more more MORE of the opening and for it to last just a little longer…
That porcelain tea bowl is gorgeous! SOTD is Equistrius, from a spur-of-the-moment split a while back with a lovely NSTer.
I meant to add to my post today…

Last post today, I promise…
I couldn’t resist…Just bought a 30ml bottle of Fat Electrician, for $33. AWESOME!! One of the best vetivers ever! 🙂
Oh jeez! I mean, thank you! This might be my time to finally get a small bottle of Fils de Dieu.
Thank you! I bought a 30ml bottle of Putain des Palaces!
Great deal! Congrats!
SOTD has been L’Artisan Parfumeur “Traversée du Bosphore”.
Top: apple, pomegranate and spicy notes;
Mid: saffron, leather, tulip, iris and tobacco;
Base: rose, honey, sugar, pistachio, musk and nougat.
It’s a nice perfume, which my skin dutifully destroys in short order. But I wore it without having time to read the notes, and looking them up to write them here has been a surprise. There was apple? tulip? I kind of got saffron and spicy sweetness – in fact it reminded me of another Duchafour inspired by the same city, “Escapade a Byzance”. They have very few notes in common.
This is the kind of thing that makes me think I am an imposter on these pages!
Pfft! Notes? Highly overated!
I try to ignore those, and also the name, the perfumer, and the reviews. Granted, all of the above contribute to my desire to sample something, but when I do so I’m usually going in blind. I only get interested in looking at the details again if something draws me in on a visceral level and I want to know more. I can appreciate many things once I understand them better, but I don’t necessarily want to approach perfume from an intellectual perspective.
Dealer’s choice theme of the day: “So, do you like this or not?”
SOTD = Coco Mademoiselle EdP, from the sample stash. It’s the second day in a row that I am wearing this one. Definitely a cool to cold weather scent for me. I am still making up my mind on this one.
I love this! I’ve been thinking of the same thing. I’m very lucky to have a perfume pal who is happy to receive samples and decants and bottles from me, so I don’t hold onto anything. I often wonder if people actually do ever explore their purgatory pile/Mount Sample/Sample Sea and make a decision and act on it. I personally am not comfortable with owning things I don’t use, but there’s always a pile of it in the limbo zone and that gets overlooked and relegated to the yeah, eventually territory. I now have a designated pile of try-it-again samples that I am working my way through and either adding to my decant wishlist or writing off.
I don’t have a lot of stuff in the limbo category for my samples, thankfully. Most of the time I can determine “Like” or “Don’t Like” fairly easily. I have learned not to test new scents if my nose is off… weird things can easily happen then.
I have a nominal “love” pile, a box full of “nope!” and the difficult category for me would be the “I dunno.” I’m just not comfortable with my own ambivalence, and I don’t want to own anything that doesn’t move me. I know that my inclination is to think I’ll eventually rotate back to the limbo zone, but the reality is that I won’t unless I make a concerted effort asap.
LOL! I totally understand the “box full of nope!” I am lucky to have some friends who will happily take most of my “Nopes” off of my hands.
I realized that I already have too much perfume that I like, there’s no point in ‘working’ on something that doesn’t grab me. Helps put stuff in the give-away pile faster. (We’ll pretend that I don’t have a box full of ‘maybe’ samples, won’t we. Mmm hmm.)
I have gotten better about casting off the immediate “nope” samples into the freebiemeet box, unless the perfume is a classic that I feel deserves a second (or third) chance. Or I like the way it smells even though I don’t want to wear it. But I have a large collection of as-yet unsniffed mainstream samples from various Sephora orders over the years, and I really need to spray them once so I can cast them off. (Even though I know I probably won’t find anything special…)
