Welcome to the weekend, and welcome to our usual open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the last perfume you smelled on the street, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

I was asked to work today to assist one of my staff on her Saturday half-day. I don’t mind, they have done the same to me in the past. I’m wearing Queen for the first time. I should never have bought it, but it was very cheap. It is a vanilla bomb on me, so it is being given away on Monday.
I’ve seen bottles of Queen selling for about the price of a latte on ebay, but I continue to hesitate pulling the trigger. Even on the cheap it’s a bummer to end up with a bottle that doesn’t work for you.
I have Queen, too, and I like it in the winter. Toss out the cheap perfume if it doesn’t work and enjoy the bottle.
It is a nice perfume if you like vanilla. I don’t have a prejudice because of the scent being cheap. I love cheap thrills. But really, the vanilla is just too prevalent on my skin. I know that there are many vanilla loving NSTers who love Queen, so if you like vanilla give it a try. I found a half ounce bottle on ebay and that is what I bought. It was less than $9.00 with free shipping. So if you can find a small bottle or even a decant with free shipping try it and give it away if it just doesn’t work for you.
No fragrance for me as I’m heading to the mall and might want to try some things. Will be looking for Jo Malone English Oak and Hazelnut, maybe Chanel Gabrielle. Anything else new that anyone recommends? Happy weekend!
I like Atelier’s Cafe Tuberosa.
forgot to say which you could find in Sephora!
To me it’s not much of a coffee scent, you know
I don’t get coffee, but a bitter chocolate from it.
ha! and I get a huge blast of dark coffee (black) at the onset which is why I like it
For some reason I didn’t realize this was Atelier Cologne, duh! This sounds interesting!
The new Tiffany EDP. If you like Iris. The new Elizabeth and James. The new Bottega.
Not sure if you tried Armani Prive range but I was pleasantly surprised.
Love iris – is the Tiffany scent more on the powdery side or the rooty/carroty side?
Haven’t tried Twilly yet so next time I’m at the mall I will look for it. If I find a tester of Gabrielle I’ll do a side by side comparison just for fun.
Hope you’ll let us know what you find and what you think.
They were pushing Twilly hard at Nordstrom, but I had already tried it and didn’t love it… it’s nice for the market they’re aiming for, though!
Left Sephora with samples of the 2 Jo Malone English Oak perfumes and looking forward to trying them!
Elizabeth & James Nirvana Amethyst is really nice! I liked Nirvana French Grey on paper, too; got a sample but haven’t tried it yet on my skin. I’m hoping to try Philosophy’s Pure Grace Nude Rose soon. Pure Grace is too much like laundry for me, but the Nude Rose flanker sounds nice (I love roses).
I should have tried the Elizabeth and James perfumes! Next time!
I’m happy that weekend came so early after my return to work from holiday. 3 days work week is perfect for someone coming back from summer vacation.
I went shopping today and I get frustrated. Why is it so hard to find a good pair of trousers? Argh!
Sotd is Grandiflora Queen of the Night. So gorgeous!
What a coincidence–I just tried that yesterday and also really loved it! I stopped into a nice store here in Houston that has good perfume offerings (Kuhl-Linscomb) and found that brand which I had not noticed or heard of before. I sniffed several on cards and then liked this so sprayed liberally on my arm, and it was fantastic. Might have to look into getting more of it, though it isn’t cheap.
A true coincidence, really.
I knew of this brand for a while but they are from Australia and their distribution is not very wide. I tried them in Florence during Pitti Fragranze as they were exhibiting there for the first time.
I hope they will become more available so I can get my bottle of Queen of the Night.
That’s a beautiful fragrance. You smell divine!
Thank you
First, you smell amazing.
Second, the next time you find a pair of trousers you like, buy at least two pair, if your budget allows. When I find something basic that works – denim, trousers, sweaters, etc., I will buy 2 or 3 (if I can) , in different colors. I’ve pared down since leaving the the states but I kept things multiples of the items that really worked for me. The closet is smaller but I’m encouraged to actually wear everything I have now!
I agree! That’s what I do these days. With “basics” I do not need the variety beyond having the initial set and then just “replenishing” it. So if there’s something that works for me, I try to build a stash
Might do that too!
My problem is that either pants are ok in The waist but The sleeves are too skinny (I have quite massive legs) or vice versa
I have a friend with exactly those issues (plus he’s quite tall.) FWIW, he finds shopping for his build much easier in Europe than in the US. So… could be worse?
I do that too and also with shoes because I’m hard to fit and after two hip replacements and some uneven-ness, I have to have just the right kind of support to walk well. So if I find something good then the more the better. I gravitate to black, navy, and then RED!
I did that buying linen pants this summer and I’m glad I did because The fabric turned out to be so delicate that after a month of wearing I had a huge hole in them!
I tried the first two perfumes from the brand and liked one of them. But you’re right: they are hardly available here too.
RE: buying pants. The secret is to look for clothes periodically when you do not need them – then you might be able to get something you like and maybe even on sale. When you shop because you need something, you end up compromising and paying more than you planned on something you like less than you’d want to.
You probably mean their Magnolia. I think it was their first.
I usually try to monitor my wardrobe and look for a specific piece when I see that something is getting close to The end of its lifespan
I hear you on shopping for pants. I’m 5’10” and while things have gotten (much) better in the past 20 years, it’s still nearly impossible to find any kind of legwear that’s both long enough and something I will actually wear (I have a long list of other stipulations.) I’ve been wearing high-waters my entire life (and thus also boots, not shoes) and will apparently continue to do so unless I have my own personal tailor at some point.
You’re in style right now!
True. Slightly too short sleeves are stylish right now
Except that the other issue is that pants sewn for someone 6″ shorter also have proportion issues – i.e., the natural knee hits me mid-thigh, etc.
But, ya, I buy regular-length pants and jeans and wear them in summer as cropped jeans
I also really got into the high-waisted culottes trend this summer and didn’t have any fit issues with those. But neither of those work outside of summer. I’d also love some pajamas that aren’t high-waters but that’s another story…
Kpaint- I am the opposite…..nine inches shorter and a light weight (my pants range from 00 to 0 and they need to be petite for the length 29 inseem) A few years ago I went to an Ann Taylor outlet and got five pairs of pants that actually fit (waist and length) for ridiculously cheap ( as I was getting tired of not liking the way the girls size 12 slacks were fitting me…they were just cut differently). This month I decided to go with a uniform approach. I have the five slacks paired with five work shirts. When it gets cooler I will add five light weight button cardigans to that. In the winter I will add my three cashmere sweaters on top of the shirts for three days and then on the other two days I have two thick high quality turtlenecks. Then do the reverse until the summer. Let’s see how this experiment goes!!!!
“inseam”
My daughter is quite petite (5′ 1/2″), but she has hips… and thighs… so the girls’ section never works for her. Sometimes boys’ clothing does, though.
Boys would be less expensive too!
Do Petites not work? I thought that stuff was made just for people in that height range?
Vanity-sizing is also probably not working in your favor, CM8. 0 and 00 were presumably much smaller 10-20 years ago. (Although 0 and 00 may not have existed then?)
Petites don’t work because the sizes generally start in 3/4….which, honestly 30 years ago used to fit before vanity sizing came into play….and yes, 0 and 00 did not exist then…..
I was just listening to a podcast today featuring a woman who wears black skinny pants, a white silky t-shirt and maybe a jacket or sweater and maybe a scarf or necklace every day at work. She said no one noticed that she has been doing this for well over 2 years until she was interviewed in the newspaper. Then it was the MEN who have come up to her and said, “Don’t you get bored wearing the same thing every day?” She wanted to say, “Dude, you have worn jeans and a collared shirt every day for the last 10 years I have known you – Why would you ask that?”
I guess because women have more of a reputation as wanting variety in wardrobe….I can honestly say that thus far no one has remarked on my new uniform which I guess is a good thing.
kpaint, have you tried Lands End for utilitarian trousers? They will cuff or hem to your specification without extra charge. Uniqlo and Nordstrom have some type of free or low cost options depending upon full vs discounted purchase; at Nordtrom, your level also determines how much in complimentary tailoring you get.
I really love Uniqlo. The quality you get for the price you just cannot find anymore.
I must try Queen of the Night again. I wasn’t too keen first time I sniffed it, but it gets so many positive comments that I’m sure I must have mis-sniffed it!
I’ve not been having any success on the clothes front either. Finally found a few things I like and my size is out.
Too much work!
Amen! Shopping isn’t fun anymore – it’s work. I do most of my clothes shopping online and have either had good luck or have gotten good at guessing right sizes.
I bet you smell amazing. Grandiflora is such an interesting brand. Too bad their distribution in Europe is very limited.
I have a small sample of Madagascan Jasmine, its yummy. Would love to try the others as well.
Success! Got 2 pairs of trousers today!
Congratulations! I’m envious.
SOTM…my own essential oil blend of homemade vanilla bean, lavender, dark patchouli and pine sap pre-yoga…
will be mowing the lawn in a little while so no other scent until tonight and it might be Chergui…surprisingly I can get away with about 10 sprays of this one…I know others can’t wear more than 2.
Oh my gosh, you blend sounds AMAZING, I love all those things!
It does smell good but sadly does not last as long as I would like it to!
I can get away with 5 sprays!
I will be curious as to what I can get away with when no 19 comes my way.
I’m in Chergui today and 2 sprays is all I can handle. Cannot even imagine 5!
It is a beauty.
I have scent eating skin.
Haha. 2-3 sprays are super-loud on me
your concoction sounds fabulous!
You are the norm…sadly, I am not. When I started watching youtube videos on Chergui everyone talked about it being a powerhouse…not the case for me.
Hi fragrant friends!
Good news to share, a new project (multi year) starting next week
And a bell jar of Borneo from Barneys on my doorstep yesterday.
And a friend on holiday in Paris bringing me Cuir de Russie when she returns next week.
SOTD – passage d’ enfer to go get fresh hair color and cut.
Things are looking up!
Wow you do have a lot of exciting things going on, on multiple fronts. Congratulations! (And I love Borneo!) I just got a haircut yesterday and it does perk one up. I saw a lovely photo of a woman with lavender-toned hair at the salon and became intrigued about trying that. I have never been one to try any of the weird colors (blue, pink, purple, green) that my students often adopt, but this one just looked so pretty. I have dark hair with silver all around my face and my hairdresser said she thought this lavender would look nice on me–it will just alter the silver parts. I really do think I’m going to try it next time!
Go for it!
I’ve done white-blond to red to dark brown but never a “fun” color, but I think pink and lavender hair are universally flattering. I had plans to have a pink bob between transitioning from long hair to pixie cut but totally forgot to do it! I say go for it, but do it all-over
Thanks! The lavender that they have is a “glaze” and won’t affect my darker hair. But I still think that turning the silver parts that color will look cool.
Ooooh. Yes, do it.
Good things all around! Yay!
So happy things are looking up for you!
Hooray, apsara! It’s your turning point!
Lovely news! Happy for you.
That’s fantastic news! I’m so glad life is on the upswing for you. ????????????????
Thank you for sharing your good news, it make me smile.
Fantastic news! Very happy to hear that things are going well for you now.
Another day with my partner in crime away, lucky for me my neighbor took my 2 little buddhas while I went to the farmers market…loaded up on fall veggies, fruits and heirloom tomatoes while they are still in season. Emptied bags of compost and textile recycling. Busy morning..now settled down with the weekend edition of the WSJ and a cup of tea.
SOTD Songes
Fun! and you smell fabulous!
I’m expecting some Arielle Shoshona samples in the mail. They will all be new to me, so I’ll be testing a couple when they arrive. Beautiful weather! Fall has retreated.
Karen share your experience with Shoshona with us. It sounds wonderful but I’m hesitant on the notes alone.
It is perfect
Weather!
I’ve tried the Arielle Shoshana scent and I wasn’t sure of the notes going in. But I found it delightful. It isn’t overly sweet…it’s very realistic passionfruit. I wish they made it in a smaller size. I can’t see myself going through 100mls…
That sounds promising! I’ll look into that ,then.
Do try it!
The first one I tried yesterday was Don’t Tell Jasmine, high skank! And Modest Mimosa; that was OK, not really distinguished in any way and didn’t have much staying power. This morning (Sunday) I put on Morning Chess, which I’m enjoying a lot! and Dear Polly, which is pleasant but short-lived
I am considering splitting Arielle Shoshana should you decide to go for more once you try it!
Thanks Hajusuuri. I’ll keep that in mind.
I would be interested in that split.
I would be interested in a split as well.
I would be in for the largest size you offer if you host the split.
Happy Saturday, all! Yeesh I have been so busy at work this week I didn’t even have time to read NST. Hope you all had a nice week.
I did manage to do some testing this week. The biggest surprise was how much I liked Chanel Gabrielle… I didn’t expect I would like it, but I did. (Hated Twilly, though.)
Also discovered the joy of Le Labo Aldehyde 44. I was thinking of getting the 3x travel spray set for the splitmeet… would anyone be interested in one? Testing the waters here before I pull the trigger.
I am happy you liked Gabrielle….this is why you always have to try it out for yourself. Most people didn’t like Mon Guerlian and I did very much. Gabrielle didn’t work for me but either did No 19 Poudre but I revisited it and now I own a FB
True enough. I want to try both Gabrielle and Twilly and am keeping an open mind.
I also like Mon Guerlain and went for the 30ml. Glad to find someone else on NST who likes it. SOTD is paint stripper, been working on 70 year old timber windows. Coming up lovely. I need something lush and gorgeous to remind my nose of beautiful things so going for my No 5 extrait.
Pause while trots off to perfume cabinet.
Loooong sigh! So good.
If you are in the U.S., please check out my swap list. The Mon Guerlain candle and body lotion are available!
I was surprised I liked it as well. I am not sure I am ready for a full bottle just because I have gotten a bunch of new irises, but surprisingly I enjoyed it.
I think I would be, but how much is it going to cost?
I’m having trouble accessing Le Labo’s website right now, but it looks like the cost per travel spray — once I factor in tax and shipping — is probably around $95.
Can I let you know? I am trying it today from my travel set to see how I like it.
P.S. I was able to get on the site fine just now and it was $245 for 3 bottles. Assuming that their store here re-opens soon I could just go buy them there. Not sure about this particular fragrance though as I like some of the others more so far (sorry)–Poivre, Mousse de Chene, and Benjoin. Too many!!
I’m just looking to see if anyone’s interested. Not asking for a commitment at this time.
Chances are I will have to pay CA state taxes so that’ll boost the price I pay. The downside of living in a big state like CA is that pretty much every fancy perfumer has a brick and mortar store here somewhere, even if it’s nowhere near me, so I have to pay taxes on on-line purchases.
I also really liked Aldehyde 44, but then realized I’d smelled it before in Chanel no 22 which I have already and like slightly more. In fact, if someone walked by me wearing the LL, I’d guess it was no 22. Did you think they were similar? I’ve seen more people compare it to no 5 which, aside from the aldehydes, didn’t smell similar to me.
I will be in Galveston in a month for my 25-year class reunion for medical school. Thinking about going up to Houston during the day to go sniffing. Does anyone know any good shops (hopefully close together) and whether there was too much damage from Harvey to make it worth the trek to Houston?
No SOTD yet, but will probably wear tsome of the Keiko Macheri Loukhoum Parfum du Soir decant that I got yesterday. I tried it when we were in Germany last summer and have been pondering a FB. It is more powdery than I recalled. Glad I decided on a decant instead of just ordering an almost blind buy.
Oh yes, the highways are fine now and you should definitely come up here to sniff! Apart from the Galleria which has the usual (both Neiman’s and Saks have lots of lines, of course), I would recommend some shops in Montrose and the Kirby area, which are pretty close together. On Wertheimer near Dunlavy are both Aesop and Le Labo. They are currently doing repairs after being flooded but I’d imagine after they’ll be re-opened at least within a month, probably sooner. On Alabama near Kirby is the best place, Kuhl-Linscomb. LOTS of interesting lines there and all available to try. Then if you go north on Kirby to Westheimer, on the left is a smaller place Sloan/Hall with some interesting things, especially the Carons in their big vats (?). The owners are apparently Caron freaks. Write me if you want to try to get together. (Not sure I’ll be in town but maybe.) I am cfreeland followed by quadruple 9 , all in yahoo.
That word should be “WESTHEIMER”. It keeps getting auto-corrected.
Great info. on perfume shopping in Houston. Didn’t know there were so many options.
I hope you don’t mind me chiming in , but I’d like to join in if the field trip happens. I’m in NW Houston and my email is nlmcook aat sbcglobal dot net.
Beautiful slightly more fallish day here, though it hasn’t fallen over into real autumn quite yet.
Got up early to post on the swap. Thank you for your patience with me Robin!
I’ve been lurking on and off here since forever but I still feel like a newbie Perfume lover -and poster. I’ve enjoyed being here, and learn a ton from y’all.
HA, and I apologize for my red yelling at the top of the post — I knew I was going to be gone all afternoon and I wanted it to settle down before I left. The thread gets WAY too long and unwieldy otherwise. But please do not feel like a newbie, it’s not such a big deal and it all works out in the end
Robin, thanks, but I’m fine. I know that’s how managing goes.
Ack!! I’m working and missing all the good stuff! Happy swapping on the the other thread.
SOTD it BoE!
You smell wonderful.
May you work day go uneventful.
You smell great!
Whenever I see BoE it makes me think we need a wiki for NST.
It will still be there! You’d be surprised how many offers don’t get posted until later in the week.
Box of Eels?
Also, does anyone ever think about the implications of calling a perfume “island wood”?
My SOTD is the last of my Daim Blond sample. It smells lovely on this casual Saturday. Have a great weekend, everyone!
Sistine, if you’d like more Daim Blond, I can send you a dab of it. All of my spare decants are spoken for via the swapmeet, but I plan on ordering more. ????
We’ve corresponded before, but my email is nlmcook aat sbcglobal dot net, just in case.
Just sent you an e-mail! Thanks so much for your super sweet offer.
Very nice September day here, his and crisp air but still a lot of sunshine. Fall at its best!
Also, I tried Chanel Gabrielle today, and I really liked it.
I’m usually not a big Chanel person, I find many of the scents aloof and posh. I tend to go for the more mainstream, ones. Chanel #5 in edt, Allure and Sycomore. And somehow Gabrielle is right up my alley. Very surprised by this.
Fall is the best! Agreed.
SOTD Etro Shaal Nur. Just because that was the first bottle that caught my eye.
A question for you guys – Iris body lotions? I love Iris in fragrances (hajusuri’s fault) but have not been able to find a body lotion I like.
Have you tried Le Labo Iris 39 body lotion?
You smell great!
Not a body lotion, but have you tried the Frederic Malle Iris hand cream? It is so gorgeous!
You are right it is amazing. I need to come up with a justification for spending so much on it, and then I am all set
Well, the Autumnal Equinox is coming right up, so there’s that…
Ha! Perfect reason to celebrate.
This might not be the answer you’re looking for, but I’ve been mixing perfumes straight into coconut oil to both scent it, and to kill the smell of the coconut in the oil. I use it right out of the shower and it has been really fun to mix my own concoctions. I wouldn’t recommend using coconut oil for your purposes but I know lots of folks use neutral oils to do the same thing. Thus your favorite iris perfume can be turned into a body oil (or even lotion?)
I will have to try it. Thank you!!
Someone might have some ideas on a neutral lotion that you could use as a base? idk. I do mine in 1 oz batches and it’s probably better to do smaller batches like that as I’ve found some mixes are more successful than others.
I’ll have to try the scented coconut oil, sounds like I would enjoy it.
I use Lubriderm, because I like it, and it works great – it’s almost fragrance free.
Victoria at Bois de Jasmin recommends fragrance free Curel or Alba Botanica – and starting with small samples to make sure the combo works well – 2 tablespoons lotion to two sprizs perfume – and let sit sealed for a couple of days.
That’s actually a great idea to let it sit and marry for a couple of days. Kinda like making beef stew and serving it next day.
LOL! I was going to suggest the Frederic Malle Iris Hand Cream but that might be too indulgent for the body
Hi everyone!
A cloudy rainy day and i had a helluva busy busy week. So I am spending today on the couch. Very lazy, love it! I just started watching The Knick. Very nice HBOseries about an NYC hospital in 1900. Makes me feel blessed living today in this part of the world where medicine and health care are so much better (and affordable).
SotD is Incense royale, by Sultan Pasha Attars. Gorgeous oud, resins and vanilla.
Just finished off all my stroopwafels this week..
can you air lift me some?
Hahaha!
I think sending baked goods overseas is not a problem…(perfume unfortunately is), so mail me your address and I’d gladly send you a package.
(mmmm i have this hunch a baked goods/candy/chocolate swapmeet would also work here hahaha
But if the craving is very urgent, I think there are quite a lot of (online) stroopwafel shops in USA right now. Or thats what i heard from another american stroopwafel lover…
Did you catch the ARD series “Charité” about the famous Berlin hospital, set in the late 19th century?
No, bit sounds interesting! Thanks.
I Really need to check in more often on German shows and movies. They make compelling stuff and have some fine actors.
RIP Cassini. I will miss the spectacular photos of Saturn (my favorite planet).
A week late here with my skank scent, Salome. I don’t find most animalics skanky at all–furry, or sort of body-odorish, but not usually unwearable. I love MKK, APLS, MAAI, Salome, and vintage civet-laden scents. Eris Perfumes Ma Bete made me recoil when I sniffed it and ELDO Rien smelled like dirty underwear, but those are the only two I have come across that were not appealing.
You smell great!
OMG I only recently learned about the Saturn photos and they are AMAZING. People who haven’t seen them should go look, stat.
Love Salome but not generally sure how I feel about “skank” (I don’t get any from Salome) perhaps because I wear quite a few pre-90s vintage perfumes? I think I might just associate “skank” with “vintage.” The only one I’ve smelled so far that I absolutely cannot do is vintage Miss Dior. I’m not into smelling or smelling like well-used panties either
Yes! I was verklempt over the amazing Cassini. Humanity CAN do great things.
I have a soft spot for Cassini; not only has it done amazing things, but it was one of the first launches I saw way back when I first moved here.
RIP to the Repo Man Harry Dean Stanton. I’m wearing a spritz of Noel au Balcon because it’s fun. As I said above to Lucasi, yesterday I sampled some Queen of the Night at a store in Houston and just now I ordered 2 samples from Luckyscent. I want to try wearing it more before taking the plunge.
Oh no. I hadn’t seen that he’d died. I remember him best as Molly Ringwald’s dad in Pretty in Pink.
Just saw him in the latest Twin Peaks — so many people from that show have died.
RIP
We were at dinner last night and someone said “another good one gone too soon”. He was 91!!!
Off to pick up food bank donations today. This will be a feel-good day as I’m always impressed with how generous some people can be.
I’m wearing Sultan Pasha Cafe Amber Noir for the occasion.
Ooooh you smell fab!
And we are both in SPA today, so i guess that makes us scent ehm not twins, but ‘siblings’?
You pick them up from private households who are giving away food?
Is that something that’s not a thing everywhere? You get a flyer from a food bank or charity for pick-up on a specific day and leave non-perishable goods out in a bag for them? At least I’m assuming that’s what she’s referring to…
Yes, that’s it exactly!
No, we don’t have that. But I live in a small town. We have a food bank, but it has limited hours and typically when I have things I’d like to give them, they’re not open, and then later I forget. So I wish we had that!
Just back from Osmothèque in Versailles! It’s European Heritage Day so it’s open to public. Smelled a lot of ingredients and oldies goodies, also saw Francis Kurkdjian who talked about rose!
Wow, how wonderful! What was the best thing you saw/heard/smelled?
I smelled so much! Patou’s Joy in its original formula is just gorgeous. Makes me want to hunt down a vintage bottle of it. And that Coty Chypre…
What a fantastic experience, I’m jealous
How awesome is that! Lucky you!
What fun! What was the best vintage thing you smelled?
It is fun! I think what they show there is not exactly “vintage” as we usually understand but rather composed according to the original formulas. If I have to pick I’d say my favourites are Joy, Coty Chypre and Bandit (there are so many I’ve forgotten!)
And gosh that strip of jasmin absolute they showed us is still smelling so wonderful!
Oh, I am envious! I would love to smell “real” Joy. Thanks for sharing!
Wow, that must have been a great experience!
That’s an incredible opportunity. I’m glad you had such a great time.
Sounds like a great experience!
We’ve had a week of beautiful indian summer weather here, and if the forecast pans out, we can expect the same next week so I’m pretty excited about the upcoming community project.
This a.m. I’m testing 2 roses I got in recent swaps: Rose Rebelle Respawn on one arm and Clinique Beyond Rose on the other. Both are gorgeous, but they’re very different takes on roses and I should have tested them separately as they are competing with one another. Lesson learned?
In other news, I’ve been preparing for winter in my new and much-colder-than-I’m-accustomed-to abode. Now have my bed dressed with a heated mattress pad and a new *extra warm* Company Store down comforter. Heaven! It’s like having a new bed.
Arriving next week are some shoes I’m hoping will work as “slippers” (they are slip-on high-top sneakers; one pair fur-lined; the other not) plus shearling orthotics to put in them. Also new cashmere-blend socks and bedsocks.
I also bought a few (really nice) cashmere sweaters this summer. While I intellectually know it’s best to shop off-season, I rarely take advantage of that. I really did this summer, got some great deals, and am pretty excited.
I’ve been pondering what to do about our closet since we moved this spring. It’s unheated with a fully closing door, occupies the outside corner walls of the house, and has a huge drafty window in it. In other words, it’s just barely warmer in the closet than it is outside at any given time.
Any ideas on how to heat this space? I’ve ordered a small oil-filled heater as that seemed like the safest option but I’ll bet someone here is much more clever at problem-solving these kinds of things.
I am jealous of your heated mattress pad.
GET ONE. Seriously, it’s life-changing. Mine’s a Sunbeam purchased on amazon.
I would then need to purchase two twin size beds as Mr. CM8 would not tolerate it AT ALL-LOL!
I really think sealing the draft in the window would help.
It would, and we talked about that but aren’t sure what kind of options we have. It’s the only functional window in the entire bedroom so sealing it is a bit tricky.
I have the same type of closet. I weatherstripped the window and used a kit to apply a sheet of filmy plastic that created an insulating air space between the window and the closet. It helped, but really the only way to keep the closet warm is to leave the door open so that the house heat gets inside.
Ya, I’ve considered that warm air from the house flowing into the closet is probably the best fix (since that’s how most closets stay warm.) The bedroom is cold and drafty as well so my thought was to get oil-filled radiators to heat both rooms 24/7 and hope that does it. Weather-stripping is a great idea, though. I’ve actually got something like that around here so I’ll give it a try. Thanks!
I know it’s a huge investment but what about blown in insulation and a storm window? Maybe replace the window entirely? Our houses were built in 1858 and new windows and insulation made a huge difference.
I’m glad you said weather stripping, for the life of me, I couldn’t remember the word.
Rose Rebelle Respawn is one of my new favorites. Seriously thinking of getting a FB but hesitant because the bottle is so dang ugly.
Huh. I actually like their bottles.
I know that I am late to this posting, but I have a similar closet.
It gets so cold in there in the winter, and if I open the door, the cold air wafts right to my side of the bed and chills me.
The warmth of the room does not heat the closet; the cold of the closet seeps into the room!!
I bought a small plug-in heater, the kind with a thermostat. The extension cord is plugged into a socket in the room, and runs along the floor so we can close the door at night. Then, that is plugged into a timer, and the heater is plugged into the timer which turns it on at early in the morning so that my clothes and shoes are not freezing when I go to work.
Hi everyone! Sotd is Gabrielle, I have a proper sample now, and am liking it more, although it still is very quiet on me. I’m undecided on getting a bottle, but asked my daughter if she thought i should. She said “no, mom, get Sean Mendes perfume instead” lol! Decisions, decisions…
Wore Sur le Nil to the gym this morning, and thinking about testing the new Jo Malone’s this afternoon. Time to do a little jean shopping for the fall!
All this talk about fall is depressing me, but you smell great (and summery) in the meantime!
How can you be depressed?! Fall is the BEST time of the year!!! Yea! Can’t wait for Fall….
Boo hiss!
Wearing Encre Noir extreme and doing laundry on a crisp autumn feeing day. Dreading going to work later ????????????
Hope work was not too bad!
Working today and very, very busy (sigh!). Wearing Pacifica Mediterranean Fig. It is warm and very humid here and Mediterranean gives me that refreshing feeling. No complains about the weather! I am trying to enjoy whatever is left of summer. Happy weekend everyone!
I am too!
Laundry. House cleaning. Arguments with daughter, who wants to wear unisex jeans and t-shirts but somehow also wants those to be considered work-appropriate.
Gaze will be running the Hokie Half marathon tomorrow, and the high school cross-country boosters will be volunteering at a water/first-aid station along the way. Benefits to charity.
SOTD is Safari. Again.
hang in their momma!
Ha. I once had a very young female co-worker inform me that my clothing was ‘unprofessional’ because I wore skirts, blouses, and sandals. Mind you, we were both engineers working in Silicon Valley high tech, where most of our male co-workers are doing well if their t-shirt is clean.
Oh, and what was her idea of ‘professional’? What she wore, of course. Dress pants, stinky beat-up running shoes, and a hoodie. I guess the dress pants elevated her outfit to ‘professional’ in her mind (slap hand to forehead).
OMG, that ourfit sounds horrendous, I don’t think I could have restrained myself if someone dressed like that made that comment to me.
I did wear jeans to work when I was in engineering, but they were dressy trouser-style, with heels and blouses/sweaters. When I worked in the executive suite it was far fancier.
I wear jeans to work sometimes too (my job is technical), but I never wear t-shirts. Somehow doesn’t feel right, besides I prefer my nicer tops and sweaters.
Yeah her trashed running shoes were a fabulous accent to the outfit. And literally stinky, since she wore them to go running before work every day. She was, umm, an interesting co-worker. High tech is full of folks with, ummm, interesting social skills.
I think she thought my clothes weren’t professional since they were feminine. But, ya know what? No matter what I wear, the guys know I’m female. So if I want to dress like a girly girl sometimes, I will.
Interesting that she bought the idea that in order to be considered professional, one has to hide the fact that one is female.
I think my daughter has that idea in mind as well: feminine is unprofessional.
Last week, her dad was being honored at a reception for recently promoted faculty at Virginia Tech. I attended in a black skirt, black/ivory patterned shell, and coral jacket. As I was slipping on my 1.5″ black heels, she looked at me and said, “It’s a professional gathering; you should probably wear pants.” (Meaning trousers.) OY.
Wearing L’ Artisan Parfumeur’s Oeillet Sauvage today and enjoying it very much! It is still warm and sunny here, but less humid than August, and we went out for a family birthday brunch, so OS was perfect.
You smell great – that one is on my wish list.
Yesterday I was reminded just how kind and generous strangers can be. My husband was out mountain biking on the hill and came off his bike. He hit the ground so hard that his hip dislocated and smashed through his pelvis, and he dislocated his shoulder. He was by himself but four bikers found him, organised an ambulance and someone went for a key for the locked gate at the top of the bike tracks. I got there about thirty minutes after the crash and all the bikers just sat with me while we waited for the ambulance ( which had to do a difficult cross country bulldozer track access). They also helped get him into the ambulance. They were the gentlest, calmest, kindest, generous men. It was such a mess but So much better than it might have been . We have a free public health service in NZ and all the nurses and doctors are brilliant. No head or spine injuries but a bit of a day! All’s well. He will have to go to a different city for surgery but one day at a time. The hispital was surprisingly scent less, no nasty or pleasant smells anywhere. Bit dull in that respect.
Yikes! Hope he mends completely, in time. My husband broke his hip in a cycling accident many years ago; it was a long recovery.
I knew the accident was bad when the friend who called me told me that my husband had let a total stranger (very kind good samaritan) take his custom brand new bike to her home so I could pick it up later.
Best wishes to you and your husband for a full and swift recovery.
I’m so sorry to hear that, those injuries sound horrendous, I imagine it will be a while before your husband is is mountain biking again. It is lovely that people were so helpful.
People can be good! My best wishes for your husband’s recovery. It sounds like he needs a bit of “repair work”.
Oh my goodness! What a spill but happy there were so many there to help him. Hoping he has a very speedy recovery????????
I’m really sorry about your husbands accident. I hope he heals soon and well. Thankfully he had good people around him at the time.
I’m so sorry! I hope he mends quickly.
Oh my goodness, but so nice to hear that people had rescued him. I’ve had a dislocated shoulder (4 times); originally from roller blading.. I finally needed to have surgery on it.
Hoping that he has a speedy recovery!
I am so sorry to hear about this, I hope he has a full and speedy recovery! And how wonderful that he was found and tended to by such kind strangers.
Wow! That’s some accident. Yes, it’s quite something to experience the kindness & generosity of complete strangers. I’ve been there myself. Wishing him a very speedy & thorough recovery.
A quick recovery to your husband and a lot of strength to you.
Goodness, that was quite a spill! I’m so glad the right people were there at the right time to help him. Prayers for both of you as he recovers.
Oh no! I am so sorry about your husband. It sounds terrible. I hope he has a speedy recovery. Sending positive vibes!
Ouch but thanks to the kindness of strangers (like what Deva did a few week’s back). Here’s wishing your husband a speedy recovery.
Oh, I’m so sorry that your husband, and you, have to go through this traumatic experience, but thank goodness you were also able to experience the kindness of strangers. I’ll keep all concerned in my thoughts.
Very sorry, and greatly relieved that good people were there to help. Please do take good care of your beloved and of yourself.
Oh my goodness. Thank heavens other people were around, and that they were good people. My sympathies to you both.
Best wishes to you and your hubby–hope is recovery is swift. Yes, there are very good people in this world and sometimes we need to be reminded of that in a big way. Too easy to succumb to the cynic in all of us.
Oh dear. Joining in sending you and husband best wishes for speedy recovery.
What incredible good fortune to have those four men nearby. I hope your husband has a quick and easy recovery.
Yikes! How awful for him, but the kindness of strangers is a silver lining. I hope he recovers well.
Wishing a speedy recovery!
Saturday Samples = Eau de Magnolia and Carnal Flower
Eau de Magnolia is quite pretty. I like the citrusy magnolia, but I’m getting a whiff of dryer sheet/fabric softener. Boo.
Carnal Flower satisfies my recent tuberose cravings very nicely. This is a second wearing, and I’m glad I’ve tried it.
Beautiful dahlia photo! At first glance I thought it was a waterlily. Tricksy flowers, those dahlias, with their many colors and shapes.
Happy weekend, everyone, and especially to our fearless NST leader for the fragrant fun here and at the swapmeet.
I would never have known that was a dahlia!
(I did not love EdM either. CF is great and I still love it, but I don’t tend to reach for it very often — more likely to reach for Fracas, or Lutens TC)
Good morning, all from a lazy Sunday. Well, lazy-ish: I have more housework to do, I wantervalter some jeans, and I need to go out and buy a drawer unit to organise my makeup. That sounds very grand, as though I have heaps–actually, maybe I do, but that’s OK. My problem is that at the moment it occupies the top drawer of my tallboy, which I’ve decided want for out-of-season clothes. What I want is to find something not too high, not too expensive and reasonably attractive that will allow me to organise. I like feeling that STUFF is organised, though you wouldn’t know it, given my huge fondness for Siamese cats! Their capacity to de-organise life is enormous.
Last night my bedtime perfume was Acqua Viva by Profumum Roma. I got it on my trip to Fumerie with Foxbins in June, and I like that sharp, biting citrus very much. It lasts really well, for a cologne-style, and I noticed when I made the bed that it’s transferred itself to the sheets, by no means a bad thing. Today’s perfume is Vanilla Flash. Nice. Soft. Gentle. Not without interest in its development. Undemanding. Easy. A weekend perfume, if ever one was made for that purpose. It goes with my boyfriend jeans and relaxed jersey and pink lippy. I feel as though everything about me today is saying, “Waterdragon, unstressed.” And I sorta am, though I have a lot on my mind right now, with a life-changing decision to make. I feel oddly peaceful about it, because I have two conditions that must be met before I agree.
Be well, all. Enjoy your weekends, and accomplish everything you want to.
“Wantervalter”? Really? I want to alter some jeans, of course, though I rather like the cadence of wantervalter…
That’s a good new word. Now we just need to invent a meaning for it…
It sounds like something a James Bond villain might say, I wanter valter your mind Mister Bond
Good to hear you’re having a relaxing weekend. I haven’t had much chance to comment of late, but I’m keeping up with the kittens!
Yay for unstressed Waterdragon! Good luck with your life changing decisions. Those decisions always make me queasy, then i end up choosing wrong lol.
Decisions are best made when unstressed and with a clear head – sounds like you are in just the right space to make a perfect decision.
Lots of errands and housecleaning today, and I wanted something loud, so I started off with Montale Blue Amber. It has burned off so now I am switching to Anubis.
SOTD was Serge Lutens “Cedre”, finishing off a decant.
Notes are cedar, tuberose, cinnamon, musk and amber.
After a bad night’s sleep I dragged my weary carcass out of bed at 10:45 and it was past 15:00 when an impatient TOMK and I finally left the house. Went for a walk around the grounds of the lovely Baddesley Clinton manor house. It’s a small, moated manor where the building is the main attraction, but we felt like being outdoors so walked around the woods, vegetable garden (with Wizard of Oz themed scarecrows) and walled garden (apparently renowned for its dahlia bed).
https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/baddesley-clinton
Then off to the city centre for street food at the Digbeth Dining Club – Indian chicken for me, Carribean vegan for TOMK. And yea verily, great was the rejoicing of The Other Mister Koenigsberg when it turned out there was a 100% vegan cake truck this evening.
http://digbethdiningclub.com/
SOTE is Hermes “Rose Ikebana”, because I am feeling slightly headachey and needed something fresh and light.
Notes are orange, spices, fruity notes, musk, blackcurrant leaf, tea, rose, lemon and rhubarb.
Sounds like a lovely day. I hope you sleep better tonight, and get rid of that headache.
That looks so lovely! And love that they are asking people to dry their summer flowers to use for their Xmas decorations, what a great idea.
I wore Aqua Allegoria Herba Fresca because it was a hot and humid July day (!) and I took two 2year old grandchildren and one 4 year old grandchild to the park. Now I am going to sleep – I don’t know how I survived when I had 4 kids under 7.
It was practice to become a champion grandma
I was visiting my best friend of 40 years on Friday evening – we hadn’t had a get-together for 6 weeks – her husband (also a friend of many years) commented on my perfume, saying he didn’t normally like most of what I wear (I took him to task, as he’s never mentioned anything about this before!) but he liked what I was wearing that evening & asked what it was. It was Hampton’s Sun’s Privet Bloom, which took a bit of explaining…when I said my husband (they were at school together, so have known each other for years) calls it “Eau de Hedge” he seemed to get it…!
What a nice compliment
How funny! Made me laugh
If you’re in the DC area, the Colonial Fair and Market at Mount Vernon is really interesting, and today is the last day. The people selling various hand made colonial era wares are in period clothing. There are re-enactors demonstrating colonial crafts, rather than selling, such as the laundress who explains the different types of sizing, starch, and bluing that were used. She has makeup to simulate bad teeth and other signs of her relative poverty. There is a young man dressed amazingly as a native American selling beautifully decorated gourds, Perry Riley Jr. Not to be confused with the athlete, Perry is a Master of Fine Arts, and his designs are based on his studies of North American and European pre-history. A woman was demonstrating and selling porcupine quill work. Also furniture, ceramics, and more.
I bought Hungary Water and Oswego (bee balm) tea at an apothecary.
There’s food in the market, too, so don’t be tempted by the cafeteria on the way in.
http://www.mountvernon.org/plan-your-visit/calendar/events/colonial-market-fair/
I was discussing eau de colognes with lady who made the Hungary water, noting that they were originally taken internally as tonics as well as being applied externally, but that would require a different type of alcohol. She expressed frustration because there are many old recipes for colognes that she would like to replicate, but they call for wine and grain alcohol. Instead, she has to use perfumers’ alcohol, because it would be illegal for her to sell colognes made with potable alcohol.
That’s interesting, isn’t it. – about the Hungary water. The market sounds terrific.
Phew its been an intense but good week staff from all over the world visiting and its gone by in a blur. But Monday and Tuesday is a holiday so now nothing to do but relax, contemplate and enjoy the 30C weather! No perfume yet but probably something citrusy.
Comments about Queen recently gave me a hankering for it. It’s more of a spicey-patchy-vanilla on me. I luuuurve it! My satisfaction level is quite high (8/10) because it was so cheap.
It’s my Friday and I’m HAPPY????
Hmmmm…good to know – I have had my eye on it because it’s so cheap
but it has such mixed reviews, good to know you like it – if I remember correctly I have liked other things you have liked
I think it’s one of those perfumes that either one REALLY likes or fahgedabotit. No in betweens, so maybe a bit polarizing. I get fairly frequent compliments when I wear it, but I think you do have to be a vanilla fan. For me, it seems to go in the group with Jungle l’Elephant and other spicy vanilla/patch fragrances. Honestly, I’m happy I found something I like SO much that is SO cheap. Says a lot about me????
going back in the cart
Happy weekend to you!
How is your hubby doing? Hoping his pain is being controlled????????
Much better than yesterday, thanks. He’s had his first surgery and will have his second when they can get an orthopedic trauma specialist. But looking and feeling much more comfortable.
Thanks!
It’s great that hubby is comfortable and over his surgery. Quite the traumatic event for both of you. Challenging times are a great leveller. Look after yourself so that you can look after him, so wear your favourite comfort scent, even minuscule amounts to lift your spirits.
We’re back to summer weather here in NYC, although technically it still is summer.
Nevertheless, I’m wearing a healthy dose of Alahine and have missed this one!
Has some good rest yesterday and today it’s back to “the list” of stuff I’ve got to do.
Wishing you all a lovely Sunday!
Oh, I was just thinking about Alahine this morning! It’s still in summer storage, but this week our weather is supposed to turn substantially more autumnal. You smell gorgeous!
You smell lovely! I usually don’t pull out my Alahiiiiiiine until November.
(Personal preference. Get your joy however you like.
It makes me happy to be seasonal with my frags, for my weather.)
I’m pretty seasonal as well but I also happen to be making a couple of decants and figured I’d not waste any.
SOTM is OJ Woman (again). I love it – on me it seems slightly different each time I wear it. Today it is wafting extra hemlock, which is not a bad thing at all.
Hey NST’ers — having fun over at the swap meet. Thanks to all of the happy swappers, what a great service to the financially challenged perfume lovers among us. Enjoying a lazy Sunday before a super charged week ahead. But, in two weeks I will be on a cruise to Canada and New England. Can’t wait. What scents should I take? Anyone? Anyone? Feel free to suggest.
Wow, lucky you, seeing the leaves turn on your way up! I would bring SSS Forest Walk and Equistrius.
If you have enough perfumes that you love and wear, bring just them: they also deserve a vacation and your enjoying them fully while relaxed. Testing is joy but it is also work; and – at least for me – mostly with negative results.
That sounds like an incredible cruise! If I were lucky enough to be going I would probably bring Wood Sage and Sea Salt for the boat times and something autumnal/ woody for the land parts. Perhaps Bois Blond?
I should add though that my staples are Chanel No. 5 EDT for the evenings and Chanel No. 19 works all hours. During my most recent cruise (Vancouver to Alaska/inner passage), Hermes EdM Bleue and Chanel No. 5 L’eau saw a lot of action – it helped that I was able to bring FBs (the super cute 30 and 25 mLs, respectively).
SOTD is Dior “Eau Noire”, finishing off another decant.
Top: thyme;
Mid: lavender, cedar and coffee;
Base: leather, violet, vanilla and liquorice.
This was the stand-out perfume from the “Diors of Our Lives” saga and I am slightly sad to see the back of it, BUT it is pretty similar to Amouage “Sunshine Man” of which I have plenty. Also it’s good to finish things up rather than continually add new stuff.
Gaze did very well in the half marathon: 1 hour 33 minutes 8 seconds, 38th place finish. He was pleased with his time, especially since he hasn’t run any distance longer than 5 miles for the past month.
SOTD is Guerlain Charnel Elixir Floral Romantique. There’s a slightly bitter streak running through these sweet woody florals (the chestnut? shrug) that I love.
Wow, that’s a really impressive time. Go Gaze!
Good numbers! Way to go!
Thanks everyone for adding to the kindness yesteray. Bit of an epic weekend…four hour surgery yesterday for old Alex but I left him in better shape than the other day ( his hip had shunted 5cm in the crash). I must be feeling less stressed as I started making a mental list of hospital appropriate perfumes. I was thinking along the lines of florals and greens, things that people might think were nice shampoo ‘but better’ ….which made me look at some of my Jo Malone samples. I don’t think the hospital has a perfume policy. The person in the bed next to Alex is Maori and listening to him speak te reo with his wife and visitors in a hushed voice last night was incredibly restful. Just what the doctor ordered.
Glad you are feeling less stressed. Having some comforting scents work wonders as well.
I know what it’s like waiting for a loved one in the hospital. My hubby had 4 broken ribs and a collapsed lung due to an accident at home. I was with him in the trauma unit at the hospital while he waited for his lung to be re-inflated. They were so close doing it many times but other emergencies kept coming in to the trauma unit beside us. They needed 2 surgeons to do his surgery and the 2nd surgeon got pulled away for the other traumas.
I was beside myself after waiting for about 5 hours so I finally went home to pack him a bag. I brought all the wrong stuff to him. It’s funny now, but not at the time.
Hope you can both rest a bit now.
Funny isn’t it. I cleaned the inside of the car – mindless occupation therapy!
Glad to hear he has had his surgery and you are feeling less stressed. I have never heard maori spoken but I can imagine hearing the soft music of another familiar language would be soothing.
May the Fragrance Force be with you!
When loved ones are in pain or sick, it hurts almost as much as our own injuries (and sometimes worse because of the feeling inability to help). I hope your husband gets better as soon as possible.
Sending warm thoughts to both of you – the times my husband has been in the hospital have been among the most stressful in my life. Just think how lovely it will be when you get to take him home!
Thanks for the update! Hoping he gets discharged as soon as he is ready. Since he’s very active (mountain bikers!! Woot woot!) his recovery will probably go very quickly. ????
Good to hear that your hubby had a successful surgery after his accident… what a wicked-sounding crash! Adding my thanks that there were some compassionate souls in the area to aid him then.
Good to hear that you are both doing better!
Talk about life throwing curve balls. Glad to hear surgery is done for the time being. Hope he heals well and has a strong recovery!
So glad you’re both feeling better today Kabila! Blessings.
SOTD = Le Labo Mousse de Chene 30
This is the Amsterdam City Exclusive. I’m still scratching my head at the association. The perfume reminds me of a spicier version of Gaiac 10 (Tokyo) with a barbershop vibe. While it is interesting, it is not grabbing me enough to even want to get a decant. Money saved.
I decided at the last minute to have lunch at the Nordstrom Cafe, severely underutilized from my observaton. Anyway, being in a catty mood, I observed a couple where the woman looked 20 years older than the not so young male companion. Her body looked attractive enough but it’s hard to erase decades of sun damage, and the most telling giveaway is how wrinkly the backs of her hands were.
I got my samples of Twilly (nice on paper) and Gabrielle (not sure what to think of it).
Onward!
Do check out the Swapmeet!
Your comments about the couple remind me of my thoughts of the new French president’s wife. I rather enjoy Twilly but Gabrielle was a no.
My mother would always tell me to take care of my hands, because they give away a woman’s age.
and the neck too!
I want to sniff Twilly for sure – hoping it can overcome my tendency to dismiss perfumes designed/marketed to twentysomethings, if that makes sense. Wanted to make sure you saw my post below thanking you for your generosity to me in the past!
I view targeting a certain demographic akin to marketing men’s vs. women’s perfumes – I basically ignore the designations.
My suburban Chicago Nordstrom Cafe is always busy, as in a line out to the foyer, so I almost never eat there. A shame, as I love their tomato bisque. Gabrielle was merely forgetable, but Twilly’s on my try list. Kinda shocked to see that my local Nordstrom actually carries Le Labo now (store lacks a robust perfume dept).
Since Le Labo is now owned by Estée Lauder, distribution seems to be better. I wish I could redesign my Nordstrom!
I didn’t even know Le Labo had new perfume – and now I don’t need to try it. That’s efficiency! Thank you!
Are you sure they weren’t mother and son? I know, that usually one can tell, and a couple of decades is not an American usual difference in the parent-child age but possible – especially with somebody who’s careless with their own skin and sun?
She was dressed too provocatively (royal blue spaghetti strap camisole) to be out shopping and dining with her son
I agree that Nordstrom’s Cafe is underutilized. I always have a delicious meal there, usually a salad, and super convenient while shopping.
I thought Twilly was quite fun to wear & lasted a good long time on me.
My Nordstrom has a liquor license but they only serve a limited selection of wine and beer. I do enjoy my meals there, away from the usual hubbub of the mall.
Do update us on Twilly!
I sure will!
My SOTD is Dame soliflore Orange Flower. Or at least it was, until I cooked a pan of bacon in the oven and now that smell is pervading my whole house!
I haven’t been on NST much in the last year as I started a new job teaching preschool music, with busy mornings and no computer time. I am trying to get back into the habit of daily reading, though, because I miss hearing about new launches and what everyone is loving. I did throw up a few things for the swapmeet and had a couple of takers, so happy for that; I was reading the feedback from the last set of “meets” and hoping that I managed to thank everyone who sent me samples in the past from freebiemeets or otherwise. Posting shortly after hajusuuri reminds me that she sent me an amazing package of men’s samples for my son to try and I dearly hope I thanked her – if not – THANK YOU! You must certainly be one of the most generous NSTers out there!
Of late I have switched over to using more natural/organic products for skin, makeup and health, and in that community perfume is not terribly popular – but there is no way I’m giving it up. It’s amazing how a spray of something that smells amazing can lift your spirits.
Glad you’re not giving up perfume. It really can have an amazing effect on one’s spirit!
Hey MMK, glad to see you posting, even infrequently! I’m pretty sure you thanked me. I hope your son enjoyed the selection!
So many good choices. We’re still working on trying different fragrance families and seeing what appeals to him the most. He’s in 8th grade so the hallway competition is Axe body spray!
Isn’t it notable how much it lifts your spirits?
That would make an interesting topic.
Big morning of housework, followed by a shower and the lovely Parfum de Thérèse. Hope you are all enjoying your day!
A very quick very good morning, NST. Have to flash in and out because you would not believe the chaos in my house this morning. I must tidy and vacuum before I go to work. Naughty kittens!
SOTD is 31 Rue Cambon, to help me further clarify my mind on The Decision. It never disappears, and therefore keeps me grounded in the present moment. Also, I have a late meeting, a big gathering of contentious colleagues in a smallish room, and 31RC will be in its final glory by then.
Gotta dash. Be well, all.
Great choice! The Chanel will be your silent partner at the meeting.
Smiling at your description of the kitten chaos! It brings back memories of when my current cats were little furballs.
Are contemplating any more wanter valtering today?
Wearing Eau Duelle and enjoying a beautiful Sunday afternoon by avoiding the grading I should really be doing. However, now is the time to buckle down. Have a wonderful afternoon and evening, everybody!
Pulled out my Shalimar while going through items to list in the swap meet (autocorrect really, strongly, prefers “meat”), and have given myself a nice dousing of my vintage PDT. Good stuff that I wear so infrequently. My cats seem to hate it.
We went to a show on Friday night and the headlining band (The Chameleons for any 80s post-punk fans) played last, after midnight, after 3 other bands. I can safely say I am too old for that kind of thing. By the time they came on, and I really wanted to see them, I was irritable, feeling too hot and claustrophobic, with an aching back. I really wanted to go hunt down the tech person and find out why the the smoke machine was necessary in a room that was already humid with sweat and body heat. I’m still recovering, lol.
I wore Le Labo Baie Rose to that ordeal.
Monday morning and a warm spring morning although some rain is forecast for later. Wearing No. 19 EdT to support me through a challenging workday.
