It's Monday, and it's the National Day of Service and Remembrance. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Aedes de Venustas Pélargonium.
Reminder: on 9/15 we're doing edition 2 of the Picture challenge (you can see edition 1 here). Wear a perfume that matches the picture, which is Portraits of the *** Family, called The Family Gathering, summer 1867 - early winter 1868 by Frédéric Bazille, shown recently in the exhibit Frédéric Bazille and the Birth of Impressionism. You can read more about the painting here, and you can see a larger image here.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

5 C this AM, so I gleefully reached for my long neglected Lancome Cuir.
NOM 😀
SOTD Ambre Fetiche thanks to a generous NSTer
This scent is very spiritual and peaceful, perfect for remembering and reflecting on this tragic day. At least we can grieve; last year the political turmoil overshadowed everything. I will stop here, as to not violate the comment policy . Thinking of everyone and sending positive thoughts to all my NST community
Totally agree that last year was a blur. Peace and love to you, sista!
you as well..
Maybe it being a blur was a good thing!
Beautiful SOTD. It’s still a little too warm for me to wear it, though.
I’m in Idyllwild by Ineke. Feeling great and sending out positive energy to those impacted by Irma.
What do you think? I like Idyllwild.
I’ll give it a few more test days but only feelings so far. The rhubarb note is unfamiliar to me and it keeps grabbing me when I move. ❤️
How is it? With a couple of exceptions, I love the entire line. They’re interesting without being challenging. I’m looking forward to getting my nose on Idyllwild.
I’m on board so far. I’ve worn it a couple days now and every once in awhile I catch it when I move and it smells fantastic. I get great longevity as I can still get hints when I take off my dress shirt at the end of the day. I’m a fan of Field Notes from Paris. Might have to purchase a bottle for fall.
I’ve worn Idylwild twice, both times feeling a little uneasy with the drydown–too aftershavey?–but otherwise enjoying it.
As mentioned in a post above, it is 9/11 today, I say this because I left my father off that morning at the airport and had a very worried 6 hours until I could talk to him.
I received my Ormand Woman in the mail this weekend. I had a decant awhile ago and knew I liked it. But, I really like it when I can get a good does of it!
Wow — I’m sure many of us remember what we were doing and feeling that morning, but that must have been intense.
I love that one and wore it multiple times this weekend. You smell great.
SOTD is Dior Feve Delicieuse.
Happy to find that family in FL are safe.
Oh what good news!
????
Good to hear!
My Miami family is well too.
And you’re wearing one of my top 5 😉
That’s great!
And this really is a great one; I can almost justify one of those gigantic bottles it comes in!
Hurray for good news!
I can’t decide today, there’s too much to think about in our crazy world, so I will probably go with Coco in honor of the beautiful cool morning. It’s a comfort.
beauty is good to remember in a crazy world
Honesty, you can never go wrong with Coco. I hope you get plenty of comfort from it.
Turquoise and red is a favorite color combination of mine.
I had my Mother crochet an afghan for me, and she stated, “You want these colors together.? !???!!”
Yes, I do!
LOLOLOL
It is very beautiful.
Triple strength coffee.
Workout.
Cuir de Russie Chanel EDT.
I had a couple of Black Russians at a cocktail party on Saturday, and I suppose my subconscious chose my scent today.
Carpe Diem.
Peace.
These are not rote phrases for me, I try to live them daily (though driving these days is a test on anyone’s patience! ).
🙂
love Cuir de Russie, I am waiting for it to be more fall like here to wear it 🙂
Robin,
just heard that your favorite Nobel Prize winner will be @ the Tower on November 11 and 12.
Enjoy!
😉
Thank you so much for letting me know! I saw him at the Mann in 2016 and while I am very glad we went, I feel no need to do it again. I am probably just as happy staying home and listening to Blonde on Blonde 🙂
But wish I could go see John Cleese on the 22nd!
I saw John Cleese on the Alimony Tour he did a few years ago ( he claimed he was touring to be able to afford to pay the alimony he agreed to) and he is a very, very funny man in “concert” .
Oh, bet that was fun! He is on a tour right doing Q&A / stories after screenings of Monty Python & The Holy Grail. It looks like fun and the ticket prices aren’t that bad ($40).
Turquoise and red might be my very favoritest color combination.
Turquoise and red are one of my favorite color combos too. I’ve got a great photo I took of candy apples in the hot sun on a turquoise tray that I’ve been meaning to make larger and frame.
You see a lot of turquoise and red coral in Tibetan jewellery. Tibetans like this combination because they are opposite/complimentary on the colour spectrum and opposite colours enhance our lives and make us feel good. I like the combination too!
Thanks for the comments, Everyone !
Thanks for the info about Tibetan jewelry, viridiaan !
Very interesting!
😀
I love bold colour combinations too – asked my grandma to knit me an afghan in purple and green. She was horrified and made me pick only one, so I went with green. Still love those two colours best!
My Mother actually varied the stripes in width and it came out more beautiful than I imagined.
It was also more work to switch back and forth.
I treasure it, as I’m sure you treasure your green afghan, cazaubon!
😀
9/11. Wearing CdG Kyoto, for peace and comfort. A day with some many sad memories. Wishing you all a bright day full of love.
Wishing the love right back to you!
Thank you 🙂
Right back at you, my friend! ✌????
🙂
Same to you. We can see the beams of light from the World Trade site from our backyard and were sitting out back late last night going through our memories of that day. The memories are still sharp.
They are still very sharp. I will be able to see the beams of lights from my office tonight since I will be working late. This year I will not go downtown.
I find that I can’t bear to look at those flaming tower photos any longer. Memories too potent, and the sadness and horror linger.
Those memories will never go away. They are always present.
Hugs. This is a rather somber day for several people I know.
It is. Always thankful for life!
SOTD: Bois des Iles thanks to a very generous NST friend 😉
Fall & declining temps are awaking in me my love of ambers and richer scents, but I’m seeing some of my decants have evaporated!
I have a question: If I purchase Bois des Iles extrait which is a dabber and not a spray will it be more affected by oxygen and therefore evaporate quicker than it would if it were a spray bottle (which unfortunately does not exist for the extrait)?
I love it and want it but I also don’t wear it a lot and so would hate to spend for something that will disappear in time.
You smell fabulous! I wonder if parafilm wrapped around the top in between uses would prevent evaporation…?
Dabber bottles should be MORE resistant to oxidation and evaporation than spray bottles. Parafilm may help reduce evaporation, though it doesn’t prevent it. I think the Chanel bottles are well made enough that there should be a good seal with the cap. Also, extraits have higher oil concentration and thus should evaporate and oxidize less in general.
I think about this with respect to BdI extrait, too 🙂 I’ve wondered if I want to split it with anyone, but the idea of not getting the bottle and thus admitting the possibility of evaporation is horrible. Precioussss.
I thought of a split too but I want the bottle!
Helpful to know this info., thanks.
I parafilm all my extraits and bell jars. I do know I have one extrait that I need to parafilm asap…I got lazy.
Hello, hello!
I returned home last night from my fantastic summer holiday in Italy.
Loved all the places I visited and Pitti Fragranze was a blast too.
Soon I will be writing about my trip and then about the perfume show.
Today I’m wearing Tauer PHI.
Hello hello! Welcome back!
You smell fabulous and your travels must have been grand! Looking forward to reading about your adventures????
Glad to hear you had a terrific time. You smell gorgeous!
Welcome back. I would love to experience Pitti Fragranze someday. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
Love PHI!
So nice to hear you had such a successful vacation. Look forward to reading more on your experiences.
Welcome back! I’m looking forward to hearing about your trip, and if you smelled anything fantastic.
Welcome home! You smell fabulous.
Hi everyone, I recently gave a friend two bottles of perfume that didn’t work well for me. They asked why I didn’t just keep them, since I collect perfume? So, I said because I don’t collect perfume. This got me thinking, do you all consider yourselves to be collector’s? I guess it sounds better than “I’m a crazy perfume person” and maybe if I had unlimited resources I would invest in a specific house or genre, but really I can’t stand to have a unloved or sometimes even immensely disliked bottle on my shelf. Was just wondering. Sotd is Place Vendome. Hope everyone is doing ok.
I usually tell people I love perfume, but not ALL perfume works on me.
I also tell them to return the empty bottles and enjoy!
I then I go on and on and on about notes, accords……
And they say, Basta !!!
LOLOLOL
😉
Ha!
It sounds better, lol, if you say you are a “curator”. You don’t just get anything and keep it. You don’t just buy to have. You only want the best and most interesting, and you want to learn all about them. Ahem, “I curate selections of niche, hard to find, and otherwise fabulous fragrances for my own personal use.” You can pick that apart as you like, but it works for me! You could just as easily “curate” 10 fragrances as 250! No one would really say you collect your clothes, but rather that you develop (curate) your own wardrobe, etc. Same deal as far as I’m concerned.
I like that! And the wardrobe cimparison is a good one, especially since I consider perfume as part of my outfit.
You’re right. I’ve never heard anyone say ” I collect pants” but I think people do buy a lot of the same items and then declare it a collection. I do like the sound of curator.
Well said!
That sounds really nice! I like it.
This!
Yes, that’s my answer: it sounds better than “I’m a crazy perfume person”, much better.
I have a collection of perfume mini’s, especially vintage. I don’t like most of the scents, but I adore the tiny bottles in all their various shapes and colors and sizes.
But I don’t “collect” FBs. FBs are for using, in my world, so either I like them or they get moved along.
Very nice drawing of the distinction, pixel – well done.
Your friend has a funny definition of “collect” that seems to mean “get as many as possible of.” I don’t think, for example, that stamp collectors want sheer quantity of whatever stamps – I think they want stamps that they perceive as special, beautiful or interesting. And I feel quite sure that a comic book collector wouldn’t be thrilled if you just walked into a comic book store and bought them 5 random comics. The whole fun of collecting is seeking items that are exciting to you.
I totally agree. Just because you have more than one of something, doesn’t make you a collector. I like and love most of my full bottles, but they are a random bunch.
Wearing Wood Sage and Sea Salt, which I always associate with remembrance and introspection. Everyone who is in pain today, whether because of past griefs or current circumstances – you are in my thoughts.
Now to drink a cup of coffee, hug my cat and reflect on how I can bring positive change into my community.
Love to everyone at NST. You smell great, and your hearts are bigger than your fragrance wardrobes.
What a lovely post. And you smell great!
This made me smile. Thank you for posting.
Such a warming post! Very comforting.
Wonderfully eloquent. Thank you.
What’s left of hurricane Irma is spinning through this morning in South Carolina. All local schools, save the university I work for, are closed today. In protest, I’m leaving quite the trail of Kenzo Madly Oud Collection and Narciso Rodriguez Amber Musc in my wake at the office today.
Love them both but they’re not exactly my public-facing go-to’s. : )
That’s a fabulous to protest????
Hope AM will keep you safe from the storm Jenni!
Love your way to protest!
Stay safe and dry!
Love your protest as well. Good going!
National Service and Remembrance Day, a beautiful lotus that bloomed from the mucky waters of tragedy. Every year, I’m amazed so much time has gone by because it still feels like yesterday to me.
Breezy, damp and cool here with high wind advisories- weather that begs for a nice warm cozy fragrance. I chose Smell Bent Smoked Ambergris and I smell wonderful. Hope everyone is making it through Irma and the post 9/11 emotions without too much distress. Keeping everyone in my thoughts.
I am longing for your weather and I have never heard of your scent. I tend to like ambergris so maybe I will need to look it up
I’m loving the weather as well- anything to make an exit from high heat and humidity.
Smell Bent has 4ml spray samples of all of their scents for $6-7. I bought a handful and am liking/loving many more than I was expecting to. I also like their quirky, fun style and affordability. I see a couple of FB’s in my future. Highly recommend (not affiliated, just a fan)!
I’m waiting for Gypsy and HHH, Deva, and wondering which others you might recommend. That $7 offer is very enticing! Thanks.
Yeah, this morning I realized it has been SIXTEEN YEARS. More than half of my life has been spent in a post-9/11 world.
We have officially migrated into crisp, sunny fall. SOTD is Guerlain Mitsouko edp. I only wear this during the fall, and I am sooo happy to be smelling golden chypre oakmoss goodness.
Crisp, sunny fall here too. I love it!
STOD: Guerlain Santal Royal.
Good morning all! I found another treasure yesterday! A sealed, new in box bottle of Dioressence EdT, in one of those ribbed 80’s Dior bottles. I must admit a tinge of remorse unsealing the cellophane but the perfume is worth it. Now for some sealed Diorella! 😉
Wow! Where did you find it?
An antique store. I couldn’t believe it when I saw the box!
Lucky duck! Nice find.
Thank you! I have gotten very lucky!
Very nice find!
Coromandel EDP. I’m ready to give everything away at the swap meet, and keep about 10 bottles. There is only one I’m looking for, and everything can be rehomed.
10 is a good number. After doing a lot! of sampling over the past few years, I am now at the point where I would like to hone my collection to about 10-12 bottles that I truly love. Focus on quality over quantity. I’m curious what made your keep list…if you’re willing to share?????
What’s on your keep list so far? I’m thinking the number for me might be higher – but definitely I’m holding on to everything from
Chanel – Coco, No 5 and Coromandel, Black Orchid and White Patchouli, Guerlain SDV (I’m thinking of rehoming some vintage Guerlain), 24Faubourg, Mito, 1996, NR white cube, Kai, Mona di Orio Musc, Vintage Dune, Knowing, Noir Epices, Chinatown, and keeping all that was gifted.
Ooh, that’s a good list- we have a couple in common. Keep list: vintage Obsession and Casmir (early perfume loves), Eau des Merveilles, Lea (discontinued beauty), Coco, No 5 L’eau, Atelier Bois Blonds, No. 19 and Narciso white cube. There are several I would love to add but I need to thin the sample/decant stash which is starting to get out of control.
I hear you on the samples/decants. Vintage Obsession is great.
Which bottle are you looking for?
(I will be looking forward to your swap list!)
Ha I’m obsessed with the earlier version of Angel EDP. Of all things!
There were many flags attached to the highway overpasses on my way to work. I wish peace on earth on every 9/11..
SOTD Vilhelm Parfumerie A Lilac A Day. I am still partial to the beautiful En Passant, but find this to be another beautiful photorealistic lilac that is sunnier and crisper. Much to love.
Oooh, this just went on my try list. I don’t love En Passant (the watery cucumber note is too present on me) and I’ve been hunting for a good lilac. Pacifica French Lilac is nice, but slightly too sweet/syrupy. Sunnier and crisper sounds about right . . .
Haha, I love the cucumber/wateriness of En Passant. It sounds like A Lilac A Day would be worth a try! There is a tiny bit of sweetness but nothing intense or overpowering. I haven’t tried the Pacifica though. I found A Lilac by going through Arielle Shoshana’s Vilhelm sampler set, which is very reasonably priced at $15 for 10 1ml dabber vials 😀
I will check out the sampler – thanks!
Puredistance Opardu = good lilac
Cool this morning. POTL Luctor et Emergo fits the day for me. It’s only a sample, but I will still enjoy.
Mr. Springpansy had considered taking that flight from Boston on 9/11…
Those near misses seem like a miracle. My BIL worked in the WTC and we were sick with worry until we heard from him. He had worked late the night before so decided he could go in later that day…
I know. It’s just kind of too awful to think about. And all those people who DID go in on time…
Thanks God he did not take it. How grateful you all must be for such a miracle.
I’m imagining the woman smell like soap and the men smell of cigar smoke.
Oops! Not sure how that ended up here. That should be under what the people in the pairing smell like.
I do not see them wearing perfume. Too stiff for that. Or maybe something very, very classy.
Beautiful day out today, but still a bit melancholic. I can remember 9/11 like it was last week.
Wearing Suleko Djelem which I wore yesterday and was craving it again. Both herbally green and soft and powdery. Bucolic but not exactly cheerful. I think it also fits the mood in the painting. That family gathering looks pretty miserable aside from the setting, lol.
I agree about the painting..
I visited the 9/11 a few weeks after it happened (well as close as I could go), but it took me 16 years to visit the freedom tower and the memorial site.
Sending hugs your way and to all
I still haven’t been to the museum.
I have been to the museum a couple of times already. Very tough, heartbreaking, but comforting at the same time. A mix of feelings.
That’s odd, I just see them as posing seriously but not as miserable or melancholic. I love those puffy blue gingham dresses! The blue gives us one obvious cue for a perfume, but I have also been pondering that huge chestnut tree. I wonder, are there chestnut or chestnut blossom perfumes? I’ll have to check that out.
Yes, posing as well and unsmiling for portraits as was the fashion. But when I zoom in on their facial expressions, some look like they are repressing fear or sadness. The couple standing in the back in particular. Anyway, just my take. And nice to learn what kind of tree that is though I don’t have anything chestnut related. I think Aroma M Marron was chestnut or chestnut blossom.
I totally agree with you about the repressed fear/sadness, or something!! As I gazed at the picture, I got the feeling you get when you accidentally interrupt a very uncomfortable conversation and the other people give you the “JUST LEAVE” stare. The subjects don’t look just stern/serious to me, but like they really don’t want to be there. I’m probably looking way more into it than the artist intended, but that’s the feeling I got!
They all look pretty bored in the painting. Just wonder what perfume they were all or some wearing.
They do not look miserable to me, but they don’t look like they’re having fun either. They look like they are behaving. You could do something for Camille:
“Only Camille, the youngest cousin, is at ease, elbow on her knee, chin in hand. “Her mother’s going to turn,” Jones imagines, “and say, ‘Camille!’ And she’ll sit up straight and put her hands in her lap and be very proper. But that moment has not yet arrived.””

It’s hard to believe, isn’t it, that our current college freshmen were probably just only a year old when 9-11 occurred. It’s not the same for them.
Today is also my mom’s birthday–I feel bad for everyone whose day has become so associated with tragedy. I gave her some presents last week and will of course call her tonight.
No scent yet because I am too stuffed up to smell anything. It’s been cool enough (in Houston!) to have windows open but I’m probably letting in a lot of old. I went on Friday to the Le Labo boutique to buy a small bottle of Mousse de Chene, but it was closed due to storm damage! Waaah! I could see inside that they had boards pulled up from the floor. Hope it will re-open soon. The Aesop next door was also closed, so I guess that part of Westheimer had a lot of street flooding and the storefronts are pretty much at street level.
a lot of MOLD, that should say! Houston is full of MOLD these days.
And the ragweed is abloom in East Texas to top it off 🙁
My own college freshman was not quite three. I’d just nursed his baby brother and put him down for a nap, and went into the TV room where Gaze was watching Dora the Explorer, his daily half-hour of TV. Turned off the cable receiver first and then was caught by the news, so I sat crying into his hair.
There’s an interesting NYTimes article today of those that were kids, some quite young, on 9/11, who lost a family member and a neat project one of them is doing to video their stories.
My choice for the picture challenge is BOIS 1920 Oltremare – blue color and open air.
Nice! I did not think anyone would start on it so early!
No. 19 edp today on this day of remembrance. Our flag went out on the front of the house first thing this morning.
Peace everyone.
You smell super good
Thank you! And you as well!
I’m wearing Tauer Rose Delight oil today on this beautiful sunny day.
My heart goes out to all who lost loved ones on September 11, and those dealing with hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Katia.
You smell great!
Tested out the new Masque, Times Square, this weekend and….it just does not work for me. The “glossy lipstick” accord is so overwhelming and artificial I can’t get past it. Scrubbed.
On to better things like SOTD Chanel Sycomore!
Times Square.. that’s a tough one to pull off. I’m curious, but not hopeful. Now Sycomore, that’s a scent I’m always happy to wear.
While I do always remember 9/11/01 today, I always also celebrate this day as it is my son’s birthday. He is 18 today and I am overcome with emotion. I love him so…
Wearing Shalimar because it gives me strength and also because it’s been forever since I’ve worn it!
There can be light and joy to come out of even the darkest tragedy. Happy birthday to your son.
Amen.
Thank you!
Happy birthday to your son, KellyC!
Thank you, he is such a joy!
Happy birthday to your son! You smell terrific!
That is most definitely worthy of celebration! Despite the sadness, there were also many things to celebrate on that day – and every day, including the birth of your son.
So true
Happy Birthday and you smell fab
Awww. Happy Birthday to him ????
Happy birthday to your boy! They grow too fast!
A silver lining to a dark day. Happy 18th birthday to your son!
Happy birthday to your son!
Happy Birthday to your son!
It’s been cold her at night so I’ve been craving Shalimar. I think of you each time I wear it.
Happy birthday to your boy.
Happy birthday to your son! Today was my in-laws wedding anniversary.
Happy birthday to your son. And you smell amazing!
I am matching the picture with L’Artisan Histoire d’Orangers. Quite pleasant, but rather conventional orange blossom.
Ha, nice!
Sending positive thoughts to – sheesh, just about every corner of the country. What a rough month it has been.
I meant to wear Philosykos in honor of the lovely spreading trees in the Bazille painting but wound up in Do Son instead. I’m not a big tuberose fan, but I like it at the end of summer when I’m sick of all of my other summer scents. Also, I MUCH prefer Do Son to Carnal Flower (ducks).
Yes it has — hard not to get numb!
And ha, yes, do duck 😉
Looking at that painting and the expressions on their faces you kind of get the impression that the grandparents got their invitations muddled and have just arrived in ‘ vicars or whores’ fancy dress. I have been wearing Bois de Paradis courtesy of the Gaynor treasure trove. It’s nice , not too jammy but I probably prefer 1970 .
Hysterical! What an excellent description.
Vicars and whores….those were GREAT parties, the couple I went to! Haven’t thought of them for years, and now I want to throw one! Maybe I’ll agree to a formal farewell from work if I can specify costume.
Good morning, all. I’m late today, having slept off the last (I hope) of my different time zone zombie-ness. From the other end of the apartment, I can hear the dear man making a cup of tea and saying, “Eric, no! Noooo! Tit…Eric, NO! Alexander, if you do that, I’ll get water pistol out…ERIC!” I feel really quite serene, still in bed, still sleepy, listening to all that activity. I might wander out and lend a hand soon. Then again, I might have my cup of tea in bed and let the Kitten Chaos roll on.
The weather here is locked into a nasty phase, which is typical around the equinox. What to wear for an Antarctic blast? Black Cashmere, of course. I’m going to wrap myself in layers, because who knows, the heating at work might decide to kick in, and surround myself with a gauzy veil of warm sweet woods, iris and jasmine. At the risk of being boring and repetitive , I have to say again, I love Black Cashmere deeply. It can be formal, but it can dress down to jeans and a T-shirt. I admire such adaptability.
Alexander and Eric just arrived, along with my cup of tea. Alexander is dragging a tea towel, and Eric has a faceful of the Pink Fur of Destiny. The dear man looks frazzled…Titus has joined us, and brought his favourite lime green clothes peg with him. All is normal chez Waterdragon, then. Be well and fabulously fragrant, NST friends.
You smell wonderful!
Great scent and adorable kitten antics.
Did you try Gabrielle? I have just sent you half a sample (yep, that generous!) to your work address in case you didn’t get one.
Sixteen years–it doesn’t feel like it was more than half a lifetime ago. How little some things have changed. Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.
Trayee to keep my soul warm. I’m gloomy because of the date, but also really annoyed because my apartment complex, data analysts at work, AND Amazon all decided to be bad at their jobs at the same time.
That does seem too much!
Wearing Perles de Lalique, today. Just the right amount of rose (I don’t hate rose, but I don’t always, you know – LOVE it), balanced by some pepper and light woods. It doesn’t knock my socks off, but it is very, very pleasant.
I’m wearing Berdoues Arz el-Rab today, from my brand new bottle that ElisaP was kind enough to pick up and ship to me. 😀
It just hit me this morning that today is 9/11. I was in college when it happened and still remember the day pretty vividly. I can only imagine how this day feels for people who live in New York and/or lost people.
I finally got around to sampling some new perfumes over the weekend. I tried out Twilly d’Hermes, and Chanel Gabrielle, and while I don’t feel that I need to purchase either of them, they were both perfectly pleasant.
Another one that I tried that I might want to spend more time with is Atelier Cologne Cafe Tuberosa. The coffee note is really well done, and the combo with tuberose is a little weird but in a good way.
I liked Twilly better than Gabrielle, but no need to rush out and buy either. I liked my first sniff of Cafe Tuberosa, want to try a sample for a full wearing. The coffee opening was really potent!
That’s pretty much how I felt about Twillly vs. Gabrielle too. If I was going to purchase one, it would definitely be Twilly.
My last day of vacation and SOTD is Gallagher Hemera.
Hi, all. Mr. Aparatchick and I are in one piece. We’re still in Orlando because while we hear our house has power (90% of our county doesn’t) we don’t have water, functioning traffic lights, and no stores or gas stations working because of power situation. Spotty cell service and no internet. Last night was ugly, but as I say, we’re in one piece.
SOTD is PdN Fig Tea because I found a decant in my suitcase. 😉 .
Glad to hear you’re safe!
Happy to hear you came through unscathed! It was a wicked night for many people.
Glad you are in one piece!
Good to hear that you are doing all right!
Good news!
So glad to know you are safe.
So glad that you are okay! A dear friend of mine who lives in Ocala didn’t even lose power.
Glad you are safe. Hopefully you can exhale and try to rest a bit now.
So glad you are well and your house is still there!
Nicolaï’s Sacrebleu, one of the ultimate comfort fragrances.
Well, I picked a week of perfumes inspired by that picture – the picture is a lot more inspiring than the reality of grey skies and equinoctial gales. :^)
SOTD is Paul Emilien “Une belle journee”
Top: lime, rose, mint, iris and mandarin;
Mid: violet leaf, pink pepper, peony, rose, immortelle, geranium and jasmine;
Base: jasmine, leather and oakmoss.
A lovely Summer scent, which today was powdery violets, and helped make up for a wretched night’s sleep (or lack of same).
I was slightly grumpy at working yesterday, and then remembered that meant an unexpected billable day, so off I went (online) to Roullier White and ordered me a FB of Ex Idolo “Ryder”, a travel set of Paul Schuetze (The Tears of Eros, Behind the Rain and Cirebon; 3x12ml for £60 is a relative bargain) and some Timothy Han samples.
Ryder in particular is going to be great for Autumn:
Top: tobacco and boozy notes;
Mid: jasmine, amber and resins;
Base: woody notes, frankincense and vanilla.
Blow, winds, and crack your cheeks! :^)
I love Ryder!
We’re having one more day of warm, very summerlike weather here today before beginning the glide path into fall, and I chose the Robin-recommended-and-approved layering of Philosykos and Tam Dao to keep me company.
🙂
9/11 is always a sad day for me. I was working in CA but all my friends were in NYC, many of them in the financial district or cops.
Today I learned that three tomato plants produce WAY too many tomatoes for one person to eat. Next year I’ll only plant one. In the meantime, the neighbors get to pick what they please. I also learned that EL Tuberose Gardenia is an excellent fortifying scent for doing billing battle with Comcast. If they live up to the bargain we struck, I shouldn’t have to negotiate again for a year. Yay!
Make sauce? ????
Hello, NST! SOTD = Puredistance White, from the sample stash and the generous Hajusuuri. I was able to sneak a spritz on before my appointment with the eye doctor this morning. I had some good results from the morning’s tests, but they still want to see me back in 6 weeks.
I haven’t tried White but love Opardu. I’m sure you smell wonderful! Congrats on good test results!
Thank you! I haven’t tried Opardu yet, but it is somewhere on the “sample” list.
SotD Dryad
SotE Siberian Musk
I dont think they fit the picture, but did not have time to find a matching scent.
Inspired by my new hand soap, which smells of salty figs, I’m wearing Miller Harris Figue Amere. I need to wear my old MH perfumes more often. I wore L’air de Rien on Saturday because of the skanky scents poll, and I couldn’t have loved it more. As far as older MH goes, I also have a soft spot for Fleur du Matin.
Figue Amere is great, it smells like chocolate to me. I need to wear my old MH more too. Jasmin Vert and L’Air de Rien.
SOTD was No 22, SOTE is Shalimar.
I think the central red flower looks like an alien. Yesterday I broke out the Diorella because the weather had cooled. Today it’s warmer so I’m almost finished my second bottle of Kenzo Flower Summer 2006 L.E.
A lovely sunny day here in Montreal. Last couple of weeks have been cool-ish but we’re having another week of summer now. Tested Twilly this morning and now wearing LV Matiere Noire.
What did you think of Twilly?
I quite like it, but I already have lots of tuberose scents, so not a pressing purchase.
I will have to try it. I don’t really have anything tuberose, and have been looking. I have a tiny sample of Do Son and a larger sample of Central Park West, which would be perfect if it wasn’t so stupidly expensive. I tried Gucci Bloom, and I liked but didn’t love it.
I’ve been doing a whirlwind testing of unloved Byredo samples in order to put them up for the freebiemeet. This is just not my house, y’all. I’ve used up Black Saffron and I think I’ll keep Rose Noir, but so far I intend on giving the rest away. Today I sprayed Palermo, Mojave Ghost and Seven Veils on skin. All of them were just “meh” for me. I gave myself a few spritzes of Fate this evening to cover it all up. I wonder if my smell aura will knock my husband over when he gets home! Ha!
Late to the party! SOTD = Guerlain Cuir Beluga
It’s getting cooler and I can wear my cooler weather scents. Powdery boozy amber-vanillic goodness.
I am so late to the party.
I’m wearing Aliage on my left arm, and Heure Exquise on my right. I thought maybe that combination would turn into Chanel number 19 – not so much 🙂
I can’t decide if I am in love with Heure Exquise or if I can completely live without it – I feel like a Don Juan.
HE definitely feels sort of refined and removed – like someone at least 1 degree removed, like an aunt or teacher. I can imagine lady Bellamy from upstairs downstairs wearing this.
Unscented and took a much-needed break from all media today. I hope for each of us there was a moment of peace in the past 24 hours. Looking forward to Tuesday.
