Tuesday, and National Relaxation Day, apparently. Relax! What fragrance are you wearing?
I am commando. I am delivering my only child to college today, and Relaxation Day or no Relaxation Day, there is no perfume calming enough for the occasion. I have some Diptyque Tam Dao in my purse just in case, though.
Reminder: 8/18 will be Fugly Friday. That's the opposite of bottle porn Friday...wear a perfume you own (or just like) despite the ugly bottle. Suggested by Nebbe.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Mariage Frères Lucky Star stoneware teapot is €185 and is "guaranteed to make a wish come true with every cup of tea."
Best wishes, Robin! Hope he loves it. Commando too, since I’m picking up an alteration at Nordstrom & want to be be able to spray anything that strikes my fancy.
Perhaps a homeopathic dose of BdI upon your return…plus a stiff drink?
Thank you, I think he will love it! And a stiff drink is definitely in my future 🙂
you and me both! a good slug of something or other and a big spritz of perfume always take the edge off. 🙂
best wishes to you and family! hope you’ll let us know everything went well today.
I was going to recommend a handsome measure of gin, but then thought if you were driving that would be a no-no.
It was very emotional to leave home today, but now we are all in the (college) town and we are reasonably jolly. A scoop of ice cream took care of everything. We say goodbye to my son tomorrow afternoon, then I might have that stiff drink!
Oh gosh, I think Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin has held the title for ugliest bottle in my collection for 9 or 10 years.
I’m wearing Diva, which probably wouldn’t win any bottle awards either.
There are uglier, but yes.
I kinda like the Diva bottle. I only have a mini, though (where’d I put it??? TOO MANY MINIS).
I like it, too (probably for sentimental reasons – I was absolutely smitten by the ad as a teen) and also had a mini, which I swapped away.
I also have a mini, and it’s cute in that size! The lid on the real bottle is a little tacky, but it’s definitely not hall-of-fame bad.
Oh Robin, I know how you feel! I have an ‘only’, and the first college drop off was hard for both of us. Try to remember – you have raised him well, and prepared him for this new time in his life. And it’s time for you to possibly do new things as well! Good luck today, mama!
I’m in Cuir d’Ange before shower, going commando after. Taking the puppygirl to the vet as she’s been under the weather since we picked her up from the kennel on Sunday. She will appreciate me smelling only of eau de dog as she hates the vet. ????
I am not so sure I have adequately prepared him, but I tried 🙂
You smell lovely. Hope puppygirl will get better soon!
“[…] if not duffers won’t drown”
Ha, just what a father would say! But not a mother. (At least, that’s true in my family, I should not make sweeping gender assumptions, should I?)
Probably a reasonable working assumption but not a universal one, I would think. ;^)
My dogs always came home sick from the kennel, I finally had to stop and use an in-home petsitter. Hope she feels better soon!
That’s what we’re going to have to do too, cazaubon. Our girl is getting on in years, and she’s just not a fan of the kennel experience anymore.
Thanks for the good wishes. ????
Hope that your puppygirl is feeling better soon!
She is a little better this evening. Thanks, Jalapeno!
Thanks Everyone for all the Birthday posts yesterday.

Back to reality.
LOLOLOL. 😉
Habanita Molinard, nice design, cheaply executed.
The bottle with the thick gold collar and god-awful gold cap.
Powder, leather, smoke, vetiver, Wonderfulosity !
🙂
Carpe Diem.
Peace. Is it THAT difficult to try to achieve?
Really.? !?!
OOO…was hoping you would report back on all the food that you ate…sounds yummy and what a celebration!
Happy belated birthday!
Sounds like you had a delicious birthday!
Oh. My. That poundcake sounds phenomenal!
I am totally drooling over that feast! Especially that poundcake!
I wish you and your son the best, Robin!
Oh Mariage Frères stuff…so eye catching. I visited one of their shops in Paris last spring. So many nice things… (I only bought tea though).
I am wearing Jasmin et cigarette. By accident. I was half awake this morning and reaching for my Eau de M sample, but grabbed the wrong one.
Its a happy accident though, its such a nice scent! But also fugly friday worthy imo. Those ELdO bottles are not really the prettiest out there.
Thank you!
Their teapots are really drool-worthy, but I don’t even want a teapot that costs that much, I’d just be sure to drop it.
Same here. Sometimes i think my middle name should be Clumsy!
I quite like the ELdO bottles. A lot of aspects of the brand have a “trying to hard” quality – the bottles don’t.
Okay, they are not REALLY really ugly…but those labels designs, sometimes they work, sometimes they dont, imho.
Also, they have so many releases not living up to their bold names. And yes some names are just for attention value.
But I am still a fan of the name Fat Electrician and the over the top cheesy description that goes with it 🙂
I gave away Tom of Finland …
I like ELDO bottles as well!
Oh lordie, Robin! Hope it all goes smoothly 🙂 My thoughts are with you…try not to worry…it all works out one way or another!
SOTD- the two new Nirvanas…one on each wrists…lets see how long they last on my scent eating skin! They are both pleasant enough but I am not in need of full bottles of either….and the bottles are so -so in my eyes (not fugly but not beautiful to me so I am “kinda” participating in the community project, right?)
Forgot to mention we went into Penhaglion in Rock Center yesterday and the SA was beyond pushy…sampled Clandestine Clara…nice and lasted longer than I thought…but still, don’t need it, and the SA’s bad attitude when I told him we were not buying full bottles when he insisted kind of soured it for me 🙁
and you know I just realized that I intentionally don’t buy any perfume that has ugly bottles AND I am easily swayed to BUY perfume that comes in attractive bottles (at least what I deem to be attractive)….can we participate by wearing something that others find fugly? if so I can always go with Chinatown on Friday (I love the Bond bottles but others don’t)
What do you think of Chinatown? I have a bottle coming my way, and this is a blind buy. I like the bottles also.
I really like Chinatown…it is a sweet incense to my nose…I hope you like it too 🙂
Thank you! I do like the notes so fingers crossed!
Chinatown is pure happiness! About the safest blind buy you could make, in my opinion.
Yay! The bottle is really cute so I’m even more giddy with anticipation! It’s the little things in life. ????
I’m the same way about bottles.
that can be both good and bad-LOL!
Sounds like the two new Nirvana scents are working out really well for you. Too cool!
yes they are…good to know..in case I ever “need” more juice-LOL!
Thank you!
I’m interested in how long the Nirvana’s last on you. Please report back.
Put it on right before I posted (around 930am) …did lots and lots of swipes (maybe 10 or more on each inner wrist)….so far I can still smell it…I will keep you up to date! But keep in mind I have scent eating skin!
shockingly both are still wafting on my wrists…I mean I have to press my nose to my wrist but I still smell them…which is saying something as my skin literally eats perfume…
I mean the shocker is I am actually experiencing a “drydown” on my skin (versus my clothing which is usually the only place I get it)
I didn’t get any drydown. It just dissapeared.
lillyjo-
It is still there on my wrist! this is shocking!
I’m getting jealous, what do you think of the french grey?
French Grey is more masculine and fresh but shares a similar sweet vibe to the Amethyst (which is spicier and richer) in the drydown…honestly, I would happily wear both …I mean they would not make it to my top 10 list but they are pleasant enough for the office AND the longevity factor on my scent eating skin is a big big plus….however, won’t be getting any FBs any time soon as I still have plenty of other stuff to get through 🙂
If the theme were “worst perfume names” Clandestine Clara just might be the winner.
hee!hee! so true, kpaint, so true 🙂
And I will always think of it as “Clairvoyant Claire”
Thinking of you today, Robin; it’s a tough day. Heck, a tough year!
Thank you! And yeah, so far, 2017 is not my very favorite year anyway.
It’s been a tough one for a lot of folks.
Relaxing with Muscs Koublai Khan and a cup of tea.
Good luck with college!
Thank you Glannys!
Oh, that teapot is gorgeous! I will tide myself over with a spritz of rosewater until I choose a SOTD day from my stash at work.
Best wishes to you and your son!
Isn’t that pretty?
I need to get some more rosewater, haven’t had any in awhile.
Commando, had a nice walk around JKO reservoir this morning.
Leaving for vacation today, so I wish everyone a fragrant week ahead. Hoping that the little crazy babies due well with the change in location.
Robin, good luck.
Dear waistline, be ready for bosche bollen desserts galore! love, Loves.
Hope you have a great trip! Vacation calories, like vacation perfume purchases, don’t count.
good motto
Lovestosmellgood, if you need tips (for perfume shops for instance), you can always mail me at jijifromnl (in the land of Geeee mail).
Have a good time, and also, check out the stroopwafels!
(rent a bike, and you can eat more Bossche Bollen without expanding your waistline too much 😉
Yes, I had some of those stroopwafels that last time we went 2 years ago. Nothing compares to the Bossche Bollen!
Mostly this trip is about visiting family so shopping will take the back burner I am afraid. I will email you now regardless, just in case.
Thank for your tips on the KTown stuff! She went crazy in Nature Republic (they were having a good sale) but a little less crazy in Tony Moly (she said the prices were high)….the girls also had lunch at a three level cafeteria which they really enjoyed…the name escapes me right now!
Food Gallery 32…..now she wants to go to Flushing as she hears there are great Korean stores and restaurants there as well.
and have safe and happy travels!!! enjoy your vacation.
shocking, but I am packing a small decant of Songes
LOL! 🙂
YAY!!
That is great! Yes, Tony Moly is $$ but their packaging is so adorable.
I am very happy that had such a good time.
Have a great vacation, and please eat two for me!
Have a safe and fun trip!
Enjoy your vacation!
Best wishes for a happy move-in for you and your son, Robin! Sprayed on Velvet Orchid last night, and it’s still going strong after a morning walk. Will wear this today or another TF. Maybe Black Orchid?
On theme, or no? I’ve always rather liked those opaque ribbed bottles. Kind of modern-opulent?
I like the TF bottles also. I especially like the Orchid Soliel bottle; I don’t own it but like the color. I don’t think I have anything on theme for this weeks’ project.
Good afternoon NST! I pretty much enjoyed my long weekend but it’s coming to an end today. 3 days at work will pass fast and there will be weekend yet again.
Yesterday I received some L’Artisan Un Air de Bretagne which I’m wearing today. It’s fantastic. Transparent woods and salty breeze with a marine vibe.
OOO! that sounds good…will you be doing a review on it? I got to try Boy yesterday but only on paper…to my nose it is a lovely vanilla lavender but if I had to choose I think I would go for Jersey instead. Also, tried Coramandel…that is a nice spicy one…think it would be good for fall and winter…and no 18, which was very dry and musky (the ambrette seed)…I liked it but you should have seen my mother’s face when she sniffed the blotter-LOL! She was more partial to Boy, Misia and 1932……
That’s my plan although it probably won’t happen this week as I published a double Gallivant review this morning and I already had an idea what to review later this week. But I’m sure Un Air de Bretagne will make its way to my blog.
Chanel Boy is vanilla & lavender indeed and I like it a lot. Coromandel I find too cloying.
I’m not a fan of Misia or 1932 either…
Popping over to read about Gallivant 🙂
Yay!
Interesting – I love 18! Don’t like Misia or 1932. Coromandel is too much for me. Maybe I am one of the few…
I actually liked 18 myself but I could see how my mom (who is more into citrus and lighter scents) would make a face…I think out of all the exclusives 18 might be one of the more polarizing ones.
It’s unusual – one of the reasons I like it.
I finished off a No 18 (edt) sample last week and am not a fan at all, though the deep drydown is nice. And I love Misia and Coromandel 🙂
My mom was smitten with Misia and I , on the other hand , preferred Coramandel…if you saw us physically you would think the opposite (that my taste would lean towards lighter fresher florals and her taste would lean towards opulent rich orientals)
Ooh, happy to hear the good report on Air de Bretagne, I love the name.
Name is nice and the pattern on the box and bottle label is very pretty.
you know a younger family member shares the name and if the bottles were not so expensive I would consider gifting her one..then again, there is always Burberry’s Britt 🙂
Congrats to your son, Robin! Tam Dao sounds like just the relaxing, meditative scent to follow up the craziness of a college move-in day.
I’m trying out a sample of Gris Clair today. All those reviewers who said it smells like the hot, clean air coming from a dryer vent (minus the moist steaminess) are totally right. But it’s a little too dry for me, so I might sweeten it up by spritzing on some Prada Infusion d’Iris.
Today’s tea is my favorite of the moment: Stash green & black chai. That teapot is amazing.
Haha, for some reason I read that your “only son” is off to college today, when in fact you said “only child.” My apologies if I’ve misgendered your child!
He’s my son, no worries! And thanks.
Hugs and best of luck to you Robin!
Grey, a little drizzly and dreary, boring usual Tuesday AM meeting where there are never enough seats so I have to usually sit on an uncomfortable window ledge with and air con grate where I post my SOTD and then do the NYT crossword. I usually go for comfort on Tuesdays so am in AG Musc Nomade today.
Absolute dreary here too — hope the meeting went quickly!
Hah! Love the CBF attitude! ;^D
Good luck, Robin – Tam Dao will come through for you if need be. My SOTD is 24, Faubourg, another soothing, calming fragrance for the hectic day I’m anticipating. And a big shout-out to Anna Stromberg for mentioning the Yoga with Adriene series – I’m loving it!
You smell fabulous! I checked out one of the yoga videos. They are great! And the dog Benji! Super chill.
All will be well Robin, I’m sure.
Wearing Le temps d’une fête. I actually really like the Nicolaï bottles, but as they are generally considered ugly I thought I might as well include a few this week.
You’re SURE? Good then.
I never thought they were all that ugly either. But not fabulous, that’s for sure.
Oh, mazal tov to you and to him, Robin. Don’t be too alarmed by any initial uncertainty- I distinctly remember calling my parents the day after move-in and telling them, “I don’t think I belong here.” They reminded me about that call on graduation day. 🙂
SOTD is Hermes Vanille Galante in the face of grey gloom and rain.
This. He may feel uncertain and discouraged during this first year, encourage him to persevere and tell him you know he can do it. I needed to hear that a lot my first year.
Thank you both! I have already given him that speech, and every other speech you can think of, 20 times over. He is going to the school of his choice so that helps too. I think most of the uncertainty is on my part 🙂
Keep in mind that there are a whole crew of freshmen that are uncertain and they will certainly be supporting each other and floundering along together 🙂
So true! The mothers should have their own dorm where they get massages and yoga classes and stiff drinks. Ha.
Ha! that would be perfect 🙂
Honestly, Mr CM8 was in far worse shape when our first one went off…he would have needed such a dorm-LOL!
Keep us up to date on how he is doing….he will be away for his birthday too, right? We have the same with our eldest whose birthday is close to your son’s but she prefers celebrating with her peers 🙂
His birthday is next week and is the same day as the parent’s BBQ that marks the end of Marching Band training / camp / whatever. So we are actually coming back briefly for that next week, but we won’t stay the night. And YES, my husband cries less but is actually a bit more freaked out than I am. (Although he would not agree with that statement.)
Good luck today at your college drop off; sounds like such a mixed emotion kind of day. I am on a sampling kick, so today is Papillion Dryad. The very first whiff made me think of Silences but that has been replaced by something warm that I cannot name. My attempt at words has me at “vaguely medicinal hay.” Interesting. Taking the kids for some last minute school shopping and thinking I will be leaving a strange perfume trail behind!
That’s a hard day, Robin. I have an only child and have thought over the years that parenthood is both incredibly joyful and sometimes equally sad – if all goes well, they move out and never come back. However mine has now been married over eleven years and is a full on fabulous person, and the empty nest becomes pretty sweet in time.
Dang, didn’t mean to write a book here, sorry. Just received a package from Ulta and I’m wearing Prada Candy, Ulta has the cutest 20ml bottle that I will thoroughly enjoy.
No, a book helps — so glad you have raised a full on fabulous person! And I know eventually I will appreciate an empty nest, just not sure how long it will take.
20 ml bottles are a good thing!
yes! I wish all perfumes came in 20ml bottles!!!!!
Me too!
SOTD SL Sa Majeste La Rose + drinking oolong tea.
Best wishes to you and your son, Robin!
I will also soon be delivering someone to college, and am anxious for completely different reasons. My nephew (cousin’s son), whom I have only met once when he was a tiny baby, is coming to my city for university. We’ve been living in different countries since shortly after his birth so he’s a complete stranger to me, but family bonds dictate that I build a relationship with him. I am nervous and excited.
Oh goodness, you smell wonderful.
Hope all goes well for both of you. I’m sure he will appreciate having someone familiar to see him through, even if you barely know one another now.
Oh, that could be fun! Hope it is.
So, today I am wearing Apres l’Ondee in edt form for the first time. I have only had Mitsouko, Shalimar, and Jicky before this. I ordered decants of Apres l’Ondee edt, Vol de Nuit, Samsara edp, and a sample of Mitsouko extrait. I am looking forward to wearing Samsara later this week. Apres l’Ondee is going to be like Mitsouko for me. I will have to buy some of the edp and the extrait to decide which I love the best. With Mitsouko it is the edt. I wonder which of the Apres l’Ondee iterations i will love most?
Good luck, Robin! I’m still about 10 years away with my only, but I know that will be a very tough day — both a proud one and a sad one.
I’m in Chanel 31 rue Cambon. Full day of big meetings with a partner at work, and this is my go-to professional scent.
It flies by! You won’t believe it when it’s time.
Congratulations and good luck Robin! Sotd is Alien eau Sublime.
I have to say that despite having 3, each drop-off was a challenge for me. Bittersweet, of course, it was absolutely what I wanted them to be doing and yet…
Best of luck! The beginning of a new phase!
Ormonde Woman for me today. Driving over the mountains to visit my almost-92 year old Mom. Which is a challenge and bittersweet in a different way.
You smell so nice! Woman is my most recent love.
Wow, really? Somehow I thought the later ones would get easier.
Good luck with the Great College Drop Off today! Bring a hanky????
Commando twins! Out in the woods after a horrendous night: wicked migraine + incredible heat + high humidity = miserable morning. Plus, the headache is still lingering, gathering its haunches to leap on me again. I may just pack it in and head home for a full 24 hours of down time.
The best laid plans, etc…
Ugh. Hope it clears up either way.
That sounds miserable. Hope you recover quickly
Home sounds like the better option. Hope you’re feeling better!
Yuck on the migraine. I hope it clears out soon.
Oh no! Hope it is gone by now.
I was up to 2:30am with insomnia…..which means tonight I definitely shall enjoy National Relaxation Day early! LOL
Generously sprayed down with Atelier Pomelo Paradis. It’s is so dadgum humid in Atlanta today….the air is thick, and only citrus will cut it. I usually go for a spray on each wrist with fragrance, but today I did an allover spraydown! 🙂 (Sillage is still pitiful, but I can smell it on myself….)
hey, as long as you can smell it on yourself and enjoy what you smell that is all that matters 🙂
Agreed!
Bon courage, Robin!!!
He’ll be fine, and so will you… eventually… 🙂
Have worn Beige edp the last couple of days. Didn’t care much for it the first few tries, but now it’s growing on me.
Eventually!
I never did fall in love with Beige but it’s a darned pretty perfume.
Good luck today, Robin. My heart goes out to you.
I’m wearing Chanel Cuir de Russie today, and drinking a cup of apple cinnamon tea.
Oh, and you sound like fall with apple cinnamon tea & leather!
Wearing Naja today as I wanted the Osmanthus scent for a challenging day. The bottle for this is lovely though, so no points for this week’s theme.
Good luck today Robin !!!!
Thank you!
Big thunderstorms and pouring rain this morning, but it has stopped now and given way to steamy summer haze. Wearing a new scent from my trip to NYC, Farmacia ss Annunziata Vaniglia.
That looks good – vanilla/lemon? Anything else tempt you in NY?
I was on a gourmand bender – also bought Parfumerie Generale Felanilla and Profumum Roma Batitto d’Ali.
Oh, and also Mendittorosa Rituale.
Nice work!
I have never tried the others but really enjoy Felanilla.
Oh, I love that it ne! You smell great!!
Robin! Congratulations, and good luck to you both. So many emotions!
I’m wearing Coco, nothing to do with fugly bottles, love juice and bottle.
As many bottles as I have seen and had, Coco always makes me stop and stare, and sniff!
yes, the black label, the amber juice, it’s a standout!
Byredo Green for me today since I haven’t worn it in a while.
Robin, congrats on your son starting college, and good luck with the drop-off! I’m sure he’s going to do great.
I’m wearing Nemat Majmua attar today. I had kind of forgotten about it but found it when I was looking for something else. I didn’t wear it during vetiver week, so I’m wearing it today.
Thank you!
Best of luck on the day. It is a big deal, isn’t it? I still remember driving up with family to drop my older sister off at school. Then I was the last to go, and my Dad called me in the dorm the following week. He sounded so mournful…I hadn’t called. When I said, “Daddy, how long have I been gone?” he responded with the most plaintive, “Eight days” I’ve ever heard. So sweet.
Will likely wear Saint Julep today. We are taking Dad out for his 90th birthday dinner tonight at a local seafood place. Other than that we are taking full advantage of relaxation day…
Happy Birthday to your dad! I always called my father “daddy” too.
I am in Saint Julep. It seems to have surprising lasting power on me. Yes, it’s wearing close. But hours later it is still present.
How sweet! Happy Birthday to your Dad!
Oh, happy 90th to Dad!
I love that elegant Mariage Frères Lucky Star stoneware teapot but at €185, I would be asking for my money back if it failed to fulfill the guarantee of making “a wish come true with every cup of tea.” ????
Yeah, you and me both!
Relaxation day my foot. Tuesdays are tough (but are no one’s ugly little sister!!).
Robin, hope you’re not too sad! I hope he loves it.
Day #2 of Chergui today in order to decide whether to hold a split of it or not. I’m wearing about five sprays of it and enjoying it 🙂 Feminite du Bois and Arabie splits filled up quickly, so perhaps there will be interest for this one?
Do any of you want Chergui? Looks like it’ll end up being ~$1.30/ml. If you’re interested, please email me at ko bhatta at jee male dawt cawm.
You smell fabulous! I saw your post yesterday and dabbed some on at bedtime. I recently got a sample from Luckyscent when I sent away for the fragrance fitting. That one and Grand Soir were the two stand outs of the bunch for me.
I’d be interested….I’ll email you.
I am not sad tonight! I was not clear, this is a 3 day extravaganza. We were all sad when we left the house. Tonight we are jolly. We say goodbye to my son tomorrow afternoon and then I will be very sad. My husband and I attend some orientation thingie, and then we are going to do a few tourist things, and then we drive home Thursday morning. My guess is that by Thursday night I will be beside myself. Then I suppose I’ll calm down, right?
I think so <3
I wasn’t really beside myself, but it took a little while to adjust to the absence. You will get there!
Once he gets into his groove and you know that he is alright you will indeed calm down and adjust and think about all the free time you will have and enjoy it 🙂
Emailed!
Robin, good luck today with college drop off! I hope he LOVES it!
Commando again today (I think I’ve worn fragrance once in the last 7 days or so. No particular reason.)
Thank you!
And I do that sometimes, just lose interest. Mostly on vacation though.
I was intrigued by the creamsicle theme and it got me to thinking – hmm what do I have that I could replicate that smell somewhat with…
I do love the A’telier Orange Sanguine – so I took that and layered it with some Tauer Rose Flash. Pretty nice – and fairly close to orange creamsicle – at least to my nose. Of course the OS faded quickly as it is usually want to do, but it gave me a couple hours of creamy orange. Now I’m just mostly Rose Flash – which is fine as I do love it and I’m inside in air conditioning today so it’s behaving. Andy whips up some potent little concoctions, and their staying power is off the charts for me.
I’m thinking I need a bottle of the Vanilla Flash too – would love to see what it does with the orange, or just what it does for me 🙂
Robin I meant to tell you it will be ok. I sent my only one off several years ago – she came back a few months later (didn’t like the school) and when she left the second time – only 3 mos later to a new school – I was ever so glad – Ha! That first taste of independence is sobering – for both parties – yet liberating – again for both parties.
???? Maybe sending them out for a short test run first is the way to ease into it.
Cecilia, I can totally believe that! I know I am looking forward to more freedom, and I know more freedom will likewise be good for my son. I just need to get over the initial hump 🙂
Atelier Orange Sanguine (and/or PdE Azemour) + Philosophy Fresh Cream (or a wee bit of Indult Tihota or Profumum Roma Vanitas ) = Orange Creamsicle
OOO thank you , h! I have Orange sanguine and fresh cream!!!!
Ok now that does sound like a winner winner chicken dinner combo! I’m going to try that! I’ve got the Atelier OS and the Fresh Cream both in FB and a decant somewhere around here of the Tihota. I don’t know why I didn’t even think about the Fresh Cream – duh (smacking forehead with palm). Thank you Hajusuuri!!!
Tuesday!
1) Your child will be fine. He’s a man now.
2) Am in Citrine today. It’s a creamy orange-peach fragrance, with vanilla rounding it out, so it totally qualifies as a creamsicle. It is now discontinued and a few years old, which has made the scent seemingly more creamy than orange-y.
A man! Ack.
fall’s coming , i’m wearing blanc – paul and joe. sweet yet quiet, powdery yet milky
actually it is a good dupe for l’eau d’hiver – éditions frédéric malle
and probably a lot cheaper 🙂
Oh Robin, embrace change. Must be difficult and will take a while to start a new life. I have two small children and my eyes fill with tears at the thought of them leaving but its life. Luckily there are lots of universities in the neighborhood so they don’t have to go to Australia (as if that guarantees anything…).
I wish you new friends, love, hugs, perfume, travel and good books!
Wearing Bvlgari The Blanc, good for the summer.
Thank you Gabriela!
A bittersweet day, isn’t it, Robin? My thoughts are with you.
Autumn IS coming–the hummingbird feeder level has been dropping drastically each day, and I realized there is nothing in bloom in my yard for them to eat. Everything is setting seed or growing fruit. I saw geese flying south yesterday, too.
The news is full of eclipse mania here, Portland will get to about 99.5% totality but if I want to drive 50 miles south I can be in darkness. I am thinking about it but traffic is supposed to be awful. I’m wearing Desarmant today while I think about it.
I have been watching nest building activities from my window – sparrows hauling and niggling long strands of tussock under the eaves. And the willows are turning green. Hope the skies stay clear for you.
The air here feels like fall too — and already some leaves falling.
Wearing Coromandel EDT today for no particular reason which wound up being a great choice.
It is cloudy and cool in San Diego today for the first time in forever. Been watching too much Frozen with my daughter if you catch that reference… ????
I’m a terrible mom, I’ve never seen Frozen. We did just rewatch Trolls the other night though.
I’m in the minority on Frozen. Didn’t do much for me.
That being said, if I was snuggled up with my daughter to watch it, I’m sure I’d love it….at least maybe the first two times.
Vanille 44, as my decant is dwindling, and that should inspire more (not less) use.
Ooh, you smell wonderful! House twins!
I feel lucky to have a decant of that one as well, such a great vanilla!
You smell wonderful!
Go well, Robin. I hope your day leaves you with a sense of calm and optimism.
I’m matching Amouage Interlude with Margaret Atwood’s Variation on the Word Sleep. It’s not the most sensuous or quiet perfume but it has a strange beauty that matches the watery sun and three moons of the poem. I imagine that L’air de Rien would be better but I don’t have it:
I would like to be the air
that inhabits you for a moment
only.
I would like to be that unnoticed
& that necessary.
Margaret Atwood is a gem. Saw her at an author talk last fall and never knew she was so funny!
You smell great. I love Margaret Atwood.
SotM = Masque Milano Russian Tea from a spray sample
Russian Tea has a bit of spice then full on leather. I’ll reapply later and sniff again.
Hope it is a terrific Tuesday, wherever your fragrant adventures take you.
I am in Kate Spade Walk on Air. Nice enough, but I’m happy to have used up my sample (one less sample! one less sample!).
I am seriously stumped about what to wear for the Friday Ugly Bottle theme. I don’t have any perfumes in bottles I think are ugly, but that might be because I really gravitate toward rollerballs and/or travel sprays, so there isn’t much variety in bottle style. Maybe something I have in travel spray has a really ugly full bottle. I’ll have to do some research!
I am going to have to do research too!
Robin, I hope joy in your son’s achievements and the fun he will have will eventually come to balance the pangs of his departure. In the meantime, do whatever seems good to you if it helps.
I’m wearing Box of Eels Extrait today, because I can. It’s lovely. I feel great in this perfume: elegant on the inside, if you know what I mean. Titus has a thing for it: he’s following me around the house licking my wrist when he can reach it.
My Dakkie is a sick boy again. We’re about to take him to an emergency vet. We’re very worried.
Be well, all. Love your pets.
Wishing the best to all your pets <3
Sending love and prayers to Dakkie and family.
hugs to you and your whole family
My best wishes to Dakkie.
Good wishes coming your way!
Fingers crossed for Dakkie-cat!
Oh no! Hoping Dakkie’s issue is something very, very minor.
Oh so sorry to hear that. Hope Dakkie starts to pick up again soon.
Oh no, keep us informed!
Yikes! Hang in there, Dakkie-cat!
Sending healing thoughts to Dakkie.
Hi Robin, best wishes for you and you son for a significant change.
All the talk of Chinatown has inspired me for the day!
Dzing! today. I think it was last year that some posters on NST recommended it for hot weather, and I’d just like to thank them! You were right – it’s great in all weather.
Feeling proud of myself: someone else is buying my lunch 5 days this week! You don’t really get merit badges in grad school, but if you did, this would definitely be one of them.
Hmm..filing that away for later. Haven’t tried Dzing in the summer.
I think you’ll enjoy it. 🙂
Did you win a bet?
Hah! No, I’m working for my meals (and some money).
So late today. I’m in my summer staple of LL Bergamote 22.
SOTD is Olympic Orchids “Mardi Gras”.
Notes are orange blossom, neroli, labdanum, benzoin, vanilla, civet and musk.
This goes on smelling like a dank cellar where someone is selling Indian joss sticks and brightly dyed (if dubiously finished) clothes; the interesting smells can’t quite mask the backdrop of bilge water. But very quickly it becomes 100% exotic shop so don’t let the miasma put you off. I like it, I like it not, I like it… where I end up will depend on how many petals there are on any given day. :^)
LOL! sounds like something I might enjoy 🙂
OO does a very affordable sample service and whether I liked them or not, there wasn’t a ‘me too’ scent among them. :^)
If dank cellar is anything like wet basement, no thank you:)
Thought twins! Wet basement is a big N.O.
Robin, I hope that the big drop-off went smoothly and that you were able to grab the tonic of your choice afterwards.
SOTD = Bottega Veneta EDP, the original. Definitely NOT a contender for a fugly bottle award. I need to wear this more often… it is just SO good on me.
BV is a fantastic scent.
Totally agree with you on that.
You smell lovely!
Thank you!
Thank you, and you do smell great!
SOTD is Santal Majescule which is rose and sandalwood oriental gorgeousness in a bottle and is currently whispering in my ear about how I really really need it in a FB….
You really do need that bottle!
Congrats, Robin! I know it must be bittersweet, but if a wallflower like me could bloom as a college freshman, I’m sure he’ll do more than fine. 🙂
SOTD for me is Eau de Protection. I’ve been fighting off a migraine for the past two days and thought if I could at least smell good, maybe I could feel good, too. No dice. :/ Time for a cold pack and a couple of Motrin PM.
Ugh, feel better. You smell lovely today!
Feel better soon.
Thank you, and hope the ice packs and motrin did the trick!
Wishing both you and your son the best. I hope the day wasn’t too hard for you.
So, I wanted to test Iris 39 with Equistrius today. I sprayed one on each wrist. I noted that the opening of Equistrius was sweet hay and Iris 39 was more of a balmy green, still sweet but less so than Equistrius. They both had great sillage in the opening. When they began to dry down, I arrived at work and it was so crazy busy that I completely lost track. Oh well, another time. Thanks to ElisaP for the sample!
SOTD = PdE Tabac Tabou 2015
As compared with the older version of PdE bottles, the refotmulated bottles are fugly.
Commuting Woes No. 379: Fugly behavior
This was not directed at me but I was an observer. A hugely pregnant person walked nto a packed train. I could not see to whom she was speaking nor hear exactly what she said; all of a sudden, I heard a torrent of obscenities from her. She decided to stand next to me with no place to hold on. A guy who couldn’t have seen her when she first walked in got up and gave her his seat. I almost applauded were it not for how the woman handled herself. Granted, no obviously pregnant woman should ever have to beg for a seat; however, she cannot assume that those sitting on the priotity seats for the disabled are not disabled nor could they necessarily see her because the train was very crowded. If I were her and knowing I will have to ride a very crowded train during the morning rush, I would either announce my request upon entering or go to the train car that has a conductor who is not in an enclosed operator’s position (on the PATH train, it is very obvious where they will be) and have the conductor shame someone into giving up his/her seat.
Oh hajusuuri, your Commuting Woes make me soooooooo glad I don’t have to commute. I was giving myself a pity party today about having to unclog an overflowing toilet (and clean up the aftermath) due to children who cannot grasp the concept of wipe, then flush, then wipe, then flush. I think I’ll take the clogged toilets (and the 100 other mishaps each day) over commuting on a subway or train. You are a brave soul and I salute you.
I remember being in some very long bathroom lines when I was pregnant. No one, not a single time in 2 pregnancies, ever offered to let me cut. I certainly didn’t cuss them out (out loud, anyway haha!)
Chin up, Robin! It’s tough. Even though this is a long-hoped-for goal that you have been preparing him for, it’s always a shock when it actually happens, I guess. I still have a few years to go for my boys. I will never forget what happened after my parents dropped me off for college. My phone in my dorm room was really loud. So I turned down the ringer (I thought). Went to bed early because I was tired. Woke up at 2 AM to the RA knocking on my door because my parents had been trying to call me and I didn’t answer. The ringer was actually off–Oops! Of course, this was way pre-cellphone. So I gave my parents a good scare the first night.
SOTD was Cartier Delices, which is actually a really pretty bottle, even if it wound up feeling all wrong.
I don’t know if I have any really fugly bottles, though Queen Latifah is pretty cheesy looking. Might have to wear it after work Friday.
Cell phones change everything! I remember my mother complaining about how rarely I called her.
