Happy Tuesday, and happy Mandela Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
This will be a testing day for me, just as soon as I've had another cup (or two) of Satispur Estate Assam (Upton). Meanwhile, my office smells like Tauer Perfumes Ylang Calm. Has anyone tried the Cedar Ride spray? If so, do comment.
Reminder: 7/21 is Ernest Hemingway's birthday. Do what you will with the theme, and tell us why you chose your fragrance.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: a tea set for Hemingway? The Hendrick's Gin suitcase (with teapot and four cups & saucers, plus the bottle of gin) was £120 at Selfridges but appears to be sold out. You can possibly still find the teapot somewhere, and you can definitely still find the teacups at Amazon in the UK. If you look around online, you can also find a number of cocktail recipes at the right proportions for the teapot.
Triple strength coffee.
Extra long workout.
Gianni Versace EDT, 1981.
Narcissus, oakmoss, patchouli.
Time machine to long ago and far away.
Cicadas emerge earlier each year.
Time flies. 🙂
Carpe Diem. Peace.
“It was long ago and it was far away, and it was so much better than it is today” Bear…..name that tune! Ha, sorry, you always put songs in my head.
Oh no, now that song is in my head lillyjo!
Sorry…..not sorry:)
Well, it’s a tad better than the “Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer” ear worm my husband put in my head this morning. :O
I was so not amused.
I won’t Google.
Will return when I figure it out.
Cheers, lillyjo !
😀
Hint….its one of the last two lines in the fade out of the very long song.
And goes well with mashed potatoes. Lol
I googled, and can’t believe I did not know that.
I just looked it up and I still don’t know what it is.
Now that’s a blast from the past!
Paradise by the Dashboard Light, Meatloaf.
When I have to create the melody from the lyrics, it takes awhile.
Thanks for the mental workout!
😉
Yay!
That song makes me a little sad now that I am older.
Me too….
I was thinking of you this morning…my “tea” was triple strength coffee brewed with cardamom, anise seed and cinnamon…then topped off with whole milk (1/4 of the mug) and a large dollup of dark honey 🙂
Bear, I am STILL flying 🙂
That sounds like a great dessert!
Enjoy, chocolatemarzipan8 !
😀
What IS triple strength coffee? Where you put 3x as many grounds per volume of water? I always assumed Bear was using a figure of speech.
yes. and the song is listed above in bear’s response to lillyjo
Oh I found out what the name of the song was quite easily with Google’s help. My point was that I’ve never heard it before. I meant that I am unable to place it culturally.
Koyel- i think we are all showing our age 🙂
Anise seed and cinnamon in coffee is a great idea! I put cinnamon alone in my grounds sometimes, but I’m a huge fan of anise and will definitely have to try. Do you grind the seeds or just put them into the coffee whole?
The lazy person that I am just dumped the seed in whole
But you should probably grind them up.
I’m wearing a few dabs of Atelier Cologne Rendez-Vous. I quite like its fresh combo of fruity osmanthus, suede and iris.
Heat is coming for the next few days [le sigh…]
Ah! So that is what is in Rendez-Vous! I found it to be an unusual scent…it was part of my sampler pack from Atelier (the one that comes with all the postcards attached) and it was one that I passed on to my best friend.
Aren’t those Atelier postcards lovely? I really like their still life arrangements for each scent.
Agree 🙂
Because I couldn’t make up my mind and because I woke up feeling grumpy, I chose Osmanthus (TDC) as my scent of the day. Plenty of character so as not to bore me, but unobtrusive enough not to annoy me, plus it helps lift my mood.
Beautiful.
Maybe you have something to mark the death of Jane Austen 200 years ago today (18th ) That could be good.
I only realised that this evening and binge read on a bunch of articles about Austen in The Guardian, but no my choice was much more haphazard. Would she have enjoyed perfume I wonder.
I picture her wearing lavender essential oil.
Maybe something with rose petals, violets or honeysuckle…or lavender. – carried in a sachet or something. I saw a Jane Austen scented candle recently (Paddywax) but wasn’t tempted.
In Zoologist Panda. Green, green, green. Exactly what I needed for today.
I love a greenie.
What are your favorite greens?
…how long do you have to listen? 😉
No. 19, Silences, Le Temps d’une Fete, Crown Perfumery Crown Bouquet (d/c, sorry), Leonard de Leonard, DSH Garden at Giverny, Buterbaugh Apollo Hyacinth, Chamade, Deneuve, Patou Vacances in the Ma Collection version, Henry Dunay Sabi (also d/c, sorry again).
Amouage Myths Woman is also good, and PdE Corsica Furiosa. I don’t do well with the base of classic Lauders, but Private Collection would be great otherwise. CBIHP To See a Flower.
I don’t really dig citrusy greens, and I *hate* fig leaf, so there are my big up-front biases.
Thank you! That is a fantastic list! I have tried many of them. Lately, I have been craving for greens like crazy. Corsica Curiosa is in my fb shopping list. I think it will be my next purchase.
I love greens too, have you tried Roxana Illuminated’s Greenwitch?
Hendricks <3 I guess I will do a gin scent on Friday as a nod to Hemingway.
SOTD Ormonde Jayne Ta'if. I dabbed some from a sample, and it's pleasantly transparent and peppery with a hint of rose. I wonder if spraying it would add opulence?
Maybe I will just drink a little spot of Hendrick’s in his honor. (Although actually, while he might appreciate a gin teapot I don’t think he would be a Hendrick’s man.)
Too hoity-toity? Would he be more of a Seagrams man?
Too fresh, not enough bite, maybe even too feminine? BUT, apparently I am wrong:
http://www.mensjournal.com/food-drink/drinks/what-did-ernest-hemingway-really-drink-20160125
I love Hendricks. Yum, yum. I also love that tea set!
SOTD: Shiseido Classic Zen.
I’d definitely drink gin out of a teacup… if I had some at work… which I don’t… 😀
Happy ugly-little-sister Tuesday!
Be prepared!
https://www.etsy.com/market/gin_and_tonic_teacup?ref=l2
I had no idea this was a thing!
Gin Fizz? Those are a fun cocktail!
My husband loves Hendrick’s gin and I have a thing for tea sets so the picture makes for a pleasant fantasy lemming 🙂 Wearing The Cobra and the Canary today as it gets hotter and more humid every minute.
Next anniversary present?

Tried Cristalle EDT in vintage on one wrist and current formulation on the other last night — wow, they’re so different! Both gorgeous, but the oak moss in the vintage version is so much richer and earthier and mossier. But at the same time it made me realize that I really need a FB of the current version while it’s still gettable.
SOTD is Azemour, for a different kind of mossy green.
Is it not going to be available soon?
I think it has already been in and out of availability – IIRC, for a while it was designated a “special edition”, although Chanel might have done that because it was promoting Cristalle Eau Verte at the time. But anything THAT good is bound to become ungettable at some point, I figure.
The words “while it’s still gettable” always make me nervous.
You guys know I’m a huge fan of oakmoss and vintage Chanel. It’s worth it to snag a bottle if you can.
TOTALLY worth it. And big thanks to SmokeyToes The Enabler on this one. 😉
I’m happy to enable! 🙂 🙂
It is definitely different! But keep in mind that what you are smelling vintage wise is also different from what vintage was when I wore it in the 70s as the top notes are no longer the same…..still good though but not as crisp and citrusy….
I did a no 19 comparison yesterday! They can be so much fun!
Hi, I would like to buy a bottle of Chanel #19 either the edt or edp. I’ve only been able to try the new edt version. The edp seems to get a lot of love here so I can’t decide if I should just blind buy it. I’ll take any help, suggestions, anything to help me push the buy button. Thank you for anyone who would like to comment.????
Are you sure you can’t get a sample or decant first? A big lesson for me has been to sample once, and then twice, before splashing out for a FB. Sometimes that’s enough to scratch the itch, and weed out the perfumes you can do without from the life-enhancing ones. Just my tuppence worth. ;^)
I wish I could try it first. I called the Chanel boutique at South Coast Plaza California and they don’t carry it or have a tester. I can’t find any place that carries it except for the Chanel website.
The Chanel Boutique in SF should be able to send a sample to you! Tel # is: 415.981.1550
Thank you Smokey Toes! I will give them a call.
JM Geranium & Verbena in lieu of a shower this morning. Don’t judge. I promise I’ll shower tonight after I’m done sweating all day.
A Marine shower, as my husband calls it. 🙂 I agree with having a real shower after a hot sweaty day.
Mary Greenwell Plum today. Cause I felt fancy, that’s why.
Just got a new (to me, via ebay) Fitbit and am playing with it. I need some new orthotic insoles for my high-arch feet.
Yay! On my second fitbit and love it.
I lost my Zip after three months (it NEVER stayed clipped anywhere) and have had a Flex for two years. I like the Flex, but thought I’d upgrade for the zappy “hey, get up and move” notifications and now have a Charge 2. I’m just now figuring out all the cool stuff this one will do.
We have the same one then! I am silly and paid extra for more wrist bands so I could switch the color.
I find the “get up and move” notifications helpful, and also have slowly grown to like getting my texts (and notifications that my phone is ringing) on my wrist as well as my phone.
But my absolute favorite thing is seeing my steps by just turning my wrist (because having to tap the screen on my last fitbit was just TOO MUCH WORK, ha).
Hooray on the new Fitbit, which color did you chose?
It’s teal!
My Flex was orange. I go for the fun colors. 🙂
I LOVE orange!
Happy color. 🙂
I wear motion control shoes + orthotics (major pronator here.) Why must motion control/stability sneakers be so hideously ugly? Especially when other athletic shoes are so cute these days? ????
Well, I supinate instead, but those shoes aren’t any cuter. 🙁
Good morning!
Still reaching for easy breezy scents for heat and humidity….Wearing Clean Skin and enjoying it!
MMM….I like that one…also, White Woods and Provence (that one might be d/c)
And you know even though Clean occasional gets a bad rap I find that some are indeed pleasant and “no brainers” when you don’t know what to wear or don’t want to offend anyone, right?
Definitely! Some people LOVE Clean, and some people really talk smack about ’em. I don’t like all of the versions, but Clean Skin is the perfect “anti-perfume” perfume! 🙂
Day off today. I’m going to attempt some back to school shopping. My son insists he does not need any new clothes, and he’s probably right. My daughter though does. They wear uniforms to school, but she wears women’s plus size. It is very hard to find a good fit and appropriate school clothes for her. I’m wearing The Scent of Peace for him today. It took a long time for me to notice that this was a “for him” scent. I enjoy it very much, maybe it will conjure up a little peace in my overwhelmed head.
I can still remember trying on dungarees (remember that word?) and the saleswoman telling my Mother, I needed a husky.
LOLOLOL
🙂
Good times and good luck shopping!
ha! I was the opposite! i was so tiny my mom was forced to sew my clothes as we could never find anything in the stores that was “age appropriate” 🙂
I still shop regularly in the girls’ department. You can get some good deals that way too. Not good for professional clothes though.
Ha! me too! Many of my summer dresses are from the girls dept 🙂
Ha that word “husky” reminds me of Toughskins. Sears!
I am wearing Encre Noire, Lalique.
Weather is perfect today, sunny, 25 degrees (77 F), light breeze.
You smell great, and I’ll take your weather!
Thank you!
I really like that scent- you smell great! And we have similar weather here in Portland OR today.
No 5 Eau Premiere. Gorgeous stuff, and effortless.
Yes and yes, you smell great!
So nice.
Oh yes- and you smell fab!
I’m wearing Burberry Brit Rhythm today.
Yum.
I just got back to work after taking one of my cats to the vet. He had an abrasion on one foot which the vet wasn’t worried about and had his annual and shots. He was very unhappy. The only thing that smelled good in that treatment room was me. Yea BBRhythm.
LL Bergamote 22 on this back to work Tuesday.
You smell pretty 😀
You smell great! I adore Bergamotte 22, need to drag this one out again.
Today I’m trying Boy Chanel from the generous Laura.
On me, a refined floral-creamy-soapy-clean-powdery, subtle, nice, but it lacks a sparkle at first wearing.
Compared to the effervescence of No 22 edt, sure, it’s a little lackluster, nice but definitely not the life of the party…
It is when my Boy is wearing it. It makes me swoon. 😉
Haha 🙂
Today’s SOTD is Bond No 9 Eau de NY. I adore the greens and soft dry down, it’s got all my favorite green notes, verbena & neroli, musk, oakmoss, vetiver and woods.
Happy Tuesday all!
Inspired by Jalepeno’s description of Hemingway’s abode in Sun Valley, Idaho I am in SSS Winter Woods over my homemade vanilla bean body oil. Lordie, I had forgotten how beautiful WW blooms in the summer on my skin….all vanilla and amber…deep, rich and delicious but not at all overwhelming (if that makes any sense 🙂 !)…..
and how cool is this?
https://sonomascent.wordpress.com/2017/07/11/presentation-art-history-in-perfume-advertising/
For those of you in the city you might want to pop in to see Jessica 🙂
WW in summer! Very daring.
I adore it, though I think it’s a bit big. My boyfriend HATES it, though, so it’s been demoted to in-the-dresser instead of on top 🙁 I miss it.
Give it a try in warmer weather when the boyfriend is not around 🙂
Ooh, that sounds great. I’ll have to see if I have any WW left in my decant.
Please don’t yell at me if it is too strong for you-LOL!
I did that once by mistake-thought I had grabbed Forest Walk but realized too late it was Winter Woods. I prayed a huge blast right at the base of my throat one day in Florida when it was 97F with about 100% humidity. I almost died )and pretty certain I did have a positive loss of consciousness)! But half an hour later I jumped into a friend’s car to go out to dinner and got a nice compliment…!
Oh that is really funny! I could see myself doing that too! Well, I only have a sample so I dabbed it on which probably makes a difference…plus I have scent eating skin so nothing is incredibly strong on me in general. But that’s great that you got a compliment…I think it wears nice in warm weather. Laurie tells me that quite a few folks get more of the amber and less of the smoke ( honestly, I get NO smoke at all!)
Sounds like you picked something fantastic to match the scenery!
I tried! Thanks for inspiring it 🙂
EL Tuberose Gardenia. Not one that I reach for often. I do not LOVE it, and probably won’t replace my tiny FB when/if it runs out, but every once in a while, I find myself wanting to wear it. It is a different take on “summer” than my usual hot-weather choices (Cristalle Eau Verte, Infusion d’Iris for days when I need my scent to foy under everyone else’s radar, Ninfeo Mio, Stella once in a blue moon, and — before I emptied another FB — Antonia’s Flowers, which I suppose is passé and which no one else seems still to love as much as I do, but oh, I do, I do).
I loved and wore Antonia’s Flowers many many years ago. I still have the one ounce stopper bottle that held the pure perfume. I use it now to mix essential oils because the opening is very large …nothing wrong with loving an oldie but goodie! and nothing is passe if you love it!
Back to work today after a jaunt to Madison, WI (madtowngirl, your city is marvelous in the summer) and Chicago, IL. For shopping, I’d highly recommend The Soap Opera in Madison and Merz Apothecary in Chicago (thanks a ton for the tip, Wendysue!!)
I’m already imagining a second trip for next summer.
Today I’m wearing my new Pacifica solid perfume in Sandalwood. The opening is like orange peels and a dash of Trix cereal over a creamy, woody sandalwood. And I mean that in the best way.
*takes notes*
Merz is the brick and mortar store of smallflower.com. and it has a very interesting history.
I love Pacifica’s Sandalwood…haven’t worn it in years. It was one of the original scents that , thank God, hasn’t been d/c (yet!) Hold on to your solid as the solid perfumes are on the chopping block according to the buyer for my local health food store which carries Pacifica products….same for the candles….
I know I posted this link before but someone else might be interested-
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merz_Apothecary
Oh no! The Pacifica solids are my favorite version of their perfumes. I may have to get a backup…
I visited the downtown branch of Merz (where the staff was super friendly and engaged me in an entertaining conversation about places to visit in Chicago), but I am definitely going to check out its original location in Lincoln Square next time I’m in town.
Yes, do stock up! The Pacifica website has the Sandalwood listed as d/c and there are many many less offerings in the solid perfume section. I stocked up as soon as the buyer in my health food store told me as they were selling for six dollars each!
Yay for Madison! It really is marvelous, isn’t it?! (But I’m totally biased) and yay for The Soap Opera! I love that place and I love that you can literally smell it-and I mean that in a good way- from a block away.
If you make it here next summer we should plan a meet-up!
It’s totally marvelous. I’ve loved Madison since I was in high school and may end up living there someday when the time is right. Yes, let’s meet up next time! Likewise, if you’re ever in Cleveland, I’d love to plan a meet-up here.
Hot and humid here again, wearing Cologne Indélibile to stay as fresh as possible.
Road-testing Guerlain Gourmand Coquin today. Massive blast of rum and fruit in the opening, then a slightly frightening discordant minute or so as the chocolate surfaces. After that it calms down to a very wearable – possibly addictive – smoky vanilla/chocolate/spiced rum combo. I had been wondering what the near-hysteria around this scent was about. I have to say I like it but am not moved to speak in tongues or anything.
Wow, actually, that sounds amazing to me. I need to try that!!
You do. It’s so good and super wearable year-round. But ridic expensive.
Yep, super spendy. I would never pay full price for it, nice though it is. I was lucky enough to score a FB on eBay.
It is a lovely scent and well worth trying if you’re a gourmand fan. The more I wear it the better I like it. After quite a loud opening it settles into something much more comfortable. And it has a fairly intimate sillage too.
I did’t love GC either. I felt like it was wearing me and it made my head tired. I can see why so many love it though…
It does inspire almost religious fervour among its fans. I suspect you need to be a confirmed chocoholic to succumb completely to its charms.
Ha! I am a chocoholic. ????
Probably the boozy notes don’t work for me.
Commando right now because I’m going for an aromatherapy facial at Aveda at 1:00. I love summer holidays.
Ooh, that sounds nice! My appointment today was to get my teeth cleaned. Not so glamorous, but I join you in loving the flexibility of summer vacation.
Mmm, I love the smell of Aveda. Hope you enjoyed your facial.
After having 2 days off in a row from my job, it’s back to work today. Do I ever have a case of dragging butt today. Probably because I don’t want to actually go to work. I’m wearing Une Rose Chypree today and hoping it gets me through the day.
You smell fabulous. Hope you are home relaxing by now.
I have been having problems posting on this site
SOTD Songes
But you smell good 🙂
What’s the problem?
I wondered if it was just me. I swear I posted my SOTD yesterday but it’s not there. High probability of user error, though.
It WAS user error, BTW!
Well, good. I know the new spam filter is a PITA.
It is freezing this morning (56 degrees F !) and we have plans this evening to see Glass Menagerie at CalShakes– an outdoor amphitheater. It’s my husband’s birthday so I was planning on packing champagne in our picnic basket. It will be down blankets, blanc de blancs, and Tennessee Williams.
Not even Lilyjo’s earworm teaser has managed to dislodge the Special’s Free Nelson Mandela, which I have been humming (politest thing to call it) all morning. I was barely in high school when that song was released, but it was one of the anthems of my college years. We were naive but passionate about the shanty town we built on our beautiful, safe campus. I spent many cold nights in the “shanty” to make the case for divestment from South African companies. Looking back I am both proud of my commitment and embarrassed by how little I really understood Apartheid or the magnificence of Nelson Mandela.
Perfume? Whah? Supposed to talk about perfume? Okay, so I am currently commando, debating between Narciso edp or Ubar or Ylang 49.
Naive but passionate sums it up so well. Now, I’m mostly cynical and tired, lol. Happy Birthday to your husband! I vote Narciso, but mostly because I don’t know the other two.
SotD = Hiris
That’s all. 🙂
I just bought a nearly full blue bottle from ebay. You smell great!
Yay! and congrats on your Hiris acquisition. My blue bottle has been getting a workout in the few weeks since it arrived, completely worth it.
That’s all you need- it’s a beaut! Plus, that bottle!!????
Yes, the blue bottle is reason enough to love Hiris. 🙂
ha! so true! Sadly Hiris lasts about a nano second on my skin 🙁
My love for Kelly Caleche came back suddenly this morning after being gone for over a year! Smell is strange.
Smell really is strange, that’s for sure.
Funny how that happens, huh?
Hermessence Rose Ikebana.
My tea is Laduree Josephine tea.
Neela Vermeire Créations Ashoka. My daughter told me that I smelled good before I left home.
You do smell good!
Hello! Pretty day out today! Enjoying watching all the sale boats in the Hudson outside my window.
SOTD: Carnal Flower; also known as “basket ball” to my husband
One day I’d like to treat myself to a bottle of this one, or at least a travel sized bottle. It’s modern & sexy, and very feminine.
Okay, you’re gonna have to explain the basketball comment. 🙂 It smells like a new basketball to him?
yes! must be the camphor? weird-o! ;P
Wearing one spritz of 4160’s Who Knew? as I am off to Aveda this morning.
How do you find this one? I’m interested in this line – especially since their price point in relatively sane – but haven’t dipped my toe in yet.
It’s pretty and low-key – I want to say it’s like a rose nestled in moss, although it’s not exactly mossy – green of some kind. I don’t smell the strawberries, or the tea, at all.
I’ve tried a couple of other 4160s and they were innocuous; the only 4160 I can recall, and vividly, was Tart’s Knicker Drawer, which was a powder bomb.
Great name though 🙂
After an exhausting and super-stressful day at work yesterday, I’m almost enjoying an intensely boring class on hardware today. Almost. Some delicious Dark Horse on my arms are bolstering me. This may be my favorite Dame.
That teapot is hilarious and adorable. Though Hemingway’s alcoholism (and anyone else’s) is no laughing matter.
So far, Dark Horse has been my favorite too.
Dark Horse is great. But there are many other Dame’s I love too 🙂
Dames!!! Not Dame’s…..
You smell lovely! Dark Horse is probably my favorite also.
Apparently, carlashes are not new, but I saw them for the first time last week:
https://www.google.com/search?q=car+eyelashes&rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS563US563&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjL0MH_npPVAhVC5yYKHUOrAUgQ_AUICygC&biw=960&bih=476
Ha how fun! I like the photo of the young teen – face palm ????♂️ I wonder if someone put those carlashes on his car as a prank?
That one is actually a video on YouTube of young people in Florida, so you could find out! 😉
Today I’m wearing Heeley’s Cocobello…when I smell my wrists, for a moment I feel like I’m at the beach instead of being cooped up in the office.
I like the palm leaf opening of Cocobello, for as long as it lasts.
SOTD- Vero Kern Mito VdE (thanks to generous flopper!!!) I am in fragrant heaven and my brain refuses to go back to reality and start working on papers that are long overdue. Sigh…
???? yay!! Glad you like it!
I’m wearing Jasmin et Cigarette. I was at the beach last week and took a holiday from electronics, so hello everyone! I hope you’re having a great day.
The beach (Seabrook Island, SC) was the least beachy smelling beach I’ve ever been to. It was just exceptionally clean sand and the water. There was almost no odor. It took me a few days to realize that what I consider the smell of the beach is actually washed up seaweed drying out. I guess I love the smell of seaweed.
You smell great!
It sounds like you had a lovely getaway. Welcome back!
Welcome back! It’s rather nice to take a break from electronics and all that sometimes, isn’t it?
I dumped the entire sample of Aedes de Venustas Copal Azur. I think. I ordered samples from Aedes awhile back, and the vials were in cello bags, the bags were labeled but the vials were not. I think I kept them in order. Not sure how they package their samples now. Anyhow, this is menthol at first then dries down to a very nice spice/incense. There’s a note that zings my nose when I smell my wrists but I still like this one. I really want to try Cierge de Lune but that’s not a blind buy price so I ordered a travel set and selected CdL as a sample choice.
I tried the Cierge de Lune last week at their store and thought it was gorgeous. I’d like to get some more to really sample it so I might do that next. It also seemed to last on my skin which is always a plus.
oh boy that’s great! Now I’m really excited for my order to get here. I was hoping it was available in the travel set but those bottles really are pretty. How do they feel? They remind me of table lighters.
It’s a big bottle. I think once you understand how to use it you’ll be fine. Yes! Definitely like a table lighter.
The bottles are very heavy, solid thick glass. Very luxurious.
I tried it last week and it was a love. I am thinking of hosting a split for this one.
For the Cierge de Lune? I’d be interested definitely if that isn’t too forward of me to say.
The sample I ordered of Pelargonium was carded, but the vial is unmarked as well. Copal Azur sounds intriguing!
The Copal Azur is pretty nice. Still going strong from the morning dousing. How do you like the Pelargonium? I’m Still dreaming of the Cierge de Lune though. I tend to obsess over these things ????
+1 🙂
I have Copal Azur, Cierge de Lune, Iris Nazarena and Palissandre d’Or. Dying to smell Pelargonium, hopefully next month.
Oh wow how beautiful!
Cierge de Lune is beautiful.
I’m wearing Assam of India this morning.
Nice!!! That was my scent last summer 🙂
Opardu which is perfect for another humid day.
Late to the gathering!
1) SOTD: Prada Infusion Vetiver after showering with Aromatics Elixir shower gel. (from my mini). Very lovely and fresh – perfect for the temp today.
2) After wishing a retiring professor good luck, I looked up homes for sale in Ripon (WI), where I went to school. I was floored. Let’s just say I could sell my house now, with the equity, and buy a home THERE, with CHANGE left over. But then, enduring the brutal winters…
Not to mention the cost of heating.
Oil heat, at that! 🙁
Ya, the cost of living varies wildly between urban/non-urban areas. And not just housing – they probably have really cheap gas and groceries and utilities, etc.
I’ve tried a few of the Prada infusions and would like to sample the rest, particularly the get over and almond. Is your sample set dabbers or sprays?
I was just floored, seriously. I think it has to be a certain type of rural as well! BUT I remember groceries in WI being expensive – transport to market, and most people heat with oil, which is EXPENSIVE AF (because you must buy tanks!)
I got a sample set from Fragrance.net. They are all little dabber bottles, and they look very cute. If you have issues with your hands or fingers these may be hard to handle.
Here is a link, which has pictures: https://www.fragrancenet.com/perfume/prada/prada-variety/6-piece-mini-variety-with-iris-and-iris-cedre-and-fleur-doranger-and-amande-and-vetiver-and-oeilet-and-are-are-eau-de-parfum-.27-oz-minis#285696
Uh oh, I may need that Prada set…
Not “get over.” Vetiver. I don’t know why spellcheck keeps wanting me to say “get over” when vetiver is an English word.
HA!
Oh my, you smell absolutely delicious!
Thank you for very much! It’s a really nice morning combination! A child on the bus today told me I smelled pretty- which is the best endorsement, in my humble opinion! 🙂
That is the best compliment of all!
Had planned on something else but Galop d’Hermes beckoned me this morning. I’ve only got 1 wearing if it left, which is a problem. I’ve been hoping it would hit discounters soon, but that hasn’t happened yet, and it actually keeps getting more expensive on eBay. *sigh*
No Ernest connection but I’d bet Margot was an equestrian.
Contemplating vacation perfumes (leaving next Monday) and I think I could be perfectly happy wearing Cristalle in the morning, No 5 edt late afternoon, and Guerlain Vetiver at night for 7 days. But my bottles are too big to travel with, and I have some summer samples and decants that I haven’t gotten to yet. (Mostly because we’ve not had actual hot/summer weather yet…)
Where are you going on vacation?
Enjoy your vacation!
If those are the ones you really want to travel with, can you decant small quantities for vacation?
I’m wearing Vanille Insensee (again) and being horrified because I was just informed that the Cartier Les Heures line was axed?! Saks just told me they were all discontinued. Since I decided to order my SL from them, I had thought to finally bite the bullet on a bottle of Le Treizième. WTF? It’s like when all your favorite celebrities start dying. So sad.
Oh, they are still available directly from Cartier. Still, I’m concerned that they might not be for long. Anyone heard anything?
Local store here in Montreal said several had been discontinued. I guess they are not selling well?
I’m in a strange concoction today. Started out with Geir Ness Laila, which is a skin scent at best. There’s nothing there after a few minutes; does anyone get more from this one? The SA at Nordies insisted that I try it.
Added Home Spray No 247 from The Laundress. It’s nothing but water, alcohol and essential oils, so why not? Bergamot, thyme, lavender and ylang. Now I smell great! 🙂
Hello, NST. Yesterday was a DREADFUL day, dreadful, just plain bloody awful, and followed by a bad night–Dakkie yodelled all the hours–so today might be fraught. What should a girl do? Why, apply 31 Rue Cambon lavishly, put on white boots and red lipstick, that’s what, and stomp off to re-enter the lists. Somey31 is calming and makes me feel elegant; today it is having neither effect, and I don’t want it to. I want it to make me feel brave and feisty, and at the moment it is. Long may it do so. Be well, all. Have better days than mine.
Wishing you many better days.
You smell great, and I hope 31 continues to make you feel brave and feisty for the remainder of your day
Wishing you better days. You look and smell awesome.
Hopefully the rest of the week will be an improvement.
You smell and look great. I hope your day becomes better.
Thank you all. The day is beginning to even out, compared with yesterday, so that’s good. and I teach at 12, which has a way of wonderfully focusing the mind into the here-and-now, which will be good. Sometimes the big picture is so depressing it’s not worth looking at.
Poor you, and poor Dakkie. I wonder if Rescue Remedy is safe and helpful for kitties?
It is indeed safe for animals.
thank you, cazaubon, that’s good to know. I had a vague memory of Rescue Remedy being used for dogs. I did some checking and found it is available in a formula with no alcohol.
I use it myself and have given it to family members when they need help to calm down. It makes sense that it would help animals too.
SOTD is Etat Libre d’Orange “True Lust: rayon violet de ses yeux”. A nod to the character of Lady Brett Wotsit in “The Sun Also Rises”.
Top: rum, ginger, rose, violet and coconut;
Mid: osmanthus, lily of the valley, jasmine, ylang-ylang and tangerine;
Base: rice powder, ambergris, leather, animal notes and sandalwood.
Mmm-hmm. Yeah. Maybe if Lady Brett was 12, and lusting after boiled sweets. :^)
My guess is if true lust was actually bottled, it would stink:)
HA!!!
I’m always particularly annoyed when a line wastes a great name on a boring fragrance.
ELDO ‘Yawn’
Decided on Cuir d’Ange today. This is probably my favorite of the Hermessence line that I’ve tried (though there are several that I haven’t).
Mine, too, although it almost smells too delicious to wear.
I am sampling all the Jardin Noirs today…Cafe Rose, Jonquille de Nuit, Lys Fume and Ombre de Hyacinth.
So far I think it is a contest between Cafe Rose and Lys Fume for top place but I don’t think I will need to get more of any of them.
I love floral fragrances but, for the past few years, I find that most days I want to smell of spice and not of flowers for some reason.
I was super disappointed in Ombre de Hyacinth. It was pretty much like chewing aluminum foil on me. (Sometimes hyacinth goes all horribly metallic on me, and it sure did with that one.)
Eww, that sounds absolutely horrendous! ????
I can see what you mean by metallic.
I’ve gone through 2 perfumes today already, as it is so, so hot!
Started the day in L’eau d’Chloe, and re sprayed with knot this afternoon. Will probably go with Liz Earl no. 15 after a much needed shower.
Just chose Eric Buterbaugh’s Regal Tuberose for the day. I like it pretty well so far. It’s got an overly clean opening but t quickly blooms into something better.
Wearing my latest unnecessary purchase – Thameen’s Moon of Baroda. I still can’t describe perfumes well after all these years, all I can say is that it’s very woody and I like it 🙂
SOTD is Lush Rose Jam, via the Bubble massage bar.
For the love of God, why won’t Lush just make the Rose Jam perfume again and sell it all year?!? Do they *not* want the ton of profits it would produce???
Have you ever tried Smell Bent Prairie Nymph…that’s a bit rose jam-esque.
I haven’t. Must add it to my to-sniff list. I find Tauerville Rose Flash kind of similar, just missing the lemon part of the equation. Have you tried it?
The frustration for me is that Lush now make at least 4 other Rose-Jam-scented products precisely because it’s so popular–but they only sell the shower gel at Christmas and discontinued the original perfume on which they’re all based. Why not just keep making the perfume? Grrr.
There’s a Lush in Albuquerque where we are moving! Excited to try their stuff for the first time.
Woot! You’re gonna have so much fun trying it! I recommend the shampoo bars–they’re life-changing, especially for travel. And then if you dig those, try the Toothy Tabs.
But if they produced it all year, it would eliminate the panic frenzy buying over the holidays. (Insert sarcasm).
Exactly! I absolutely can’t believe that they make more money selling the shower gel only at the holidays than they would if they sold it year-round–and reissued the perfume and sold it all year, too!
They do have a Rose Jam body spray in the UK right now.
Late to the party on a very horsy-totsy day-will summer ever END????
On a less whiney note, SOTD is SHL Taklamakan because it is bee-yoo-tee-ful!! I was a little heavy handed cause more is better, right? Didn’t realize I would be shut up in a very small office with a lot of other people. I think they may have enjoyed being gassed out????
Can’t wait for my reagular schedule to start next week so I can have 4 days of freedom to explore. T-Rex and I are very excited about all the hiking in this area, and Camt wait for a bit cooler weather so we can comfortably dry camp out in the boonies.
“I think they may have enjoyed being gassed out”…..PRICELESS !!!
Oooh, Hendrick’s gin! Makes for a lovely gin and tonic, especially if you add a dash of rosewater to it.
SOTD = testing Soivohle’s Anniebelles Rose from the sample stash. I seem to be in a rose-scented groove this week. This is a pretty, pink roses with a bit of fruit scent. It works really well with hot, sticky weather.
Out of the three Soivohles I have two have a very similar fruity base…wondering if you are getting the same vibe from your SOTD. My two ( Jasmine Summer and Honeysuckle Bird) also work well in the hot, humid summer.
The fruity notes in Anniebelles Rose are in the top, and are fresh fruit, as opposed to dried fruit, which I do notice in a few of the other Soivohles that I have tried. I haven’t quite figured out what specific fruit I smell, though.
I really like Honeysuckle Bird. I had a sample at one time. It’s sweet but really pretty.
A g&t with rose water! What a gorgeous idea!
It took me a little bit of trial and error to figure out the proportions I liked best. Enjoy!
I’m in Habit Rouge today because even if Hemingway didn’t wear it, I think he would have smelled awesome in it!
We have our house for sale in prep for New Mexico! We’ve had 4 showings in two days. Hoping for continued traffic!
Wishing you a speedy and $$ sale!
Hooray! Congrats/good luck!
You smell(ed) great! I think you’re right about Hemingway smelling good in HR. I wonder if he’d’ve gone for it if it’d been available while he was alive… Good luck with the house!
Gosh, looking back at that post, sure did use a lot of exclamation points. I guess I was just excited about selling the house and the Habit Rouge haha.
