A piece of advice I got from an independent pharmacy here in NYC, if you buy the big bar you can cut it with a knife to prolong the “life” of the soap.

I cut lots of my bars! Also that makes them fit my too-small soap dish.

I’ve heard this before but I don’t get it. The more small soaps you have, the more “dead” little end pieces you’ll end up with (I’m unable to use the last little bit of each bar of soap, once it gets too small to rub). Why would it prolong the life to cut a big soap into littler pieces? It seems like you’d just have more soap waste.

True, but I think the lady at the pharmacy was thinking if you buy a big bar of soap like the ones from Claus Porto and let it sit in a soap dish in water it won’t last for long.

What I do is when the little piece is getting really small I cut a new one and put the little one on top, they sort of fuse/melt together, this way its less wastage.
