Last year, Danish niche brand ZarkoPerfume introduced Ménage à Trois, plus three new perfume serums that have been "matured in small wooden French barrels, the insides of which are medium-roasted": Supercharged Molécule, Oud Couture and Buddha Wood.
Ménage à Trois (not shown) ~ "MÉNAGE À TROIS is that most forbidden of love stories, where we take severe risks, indulge in absolute freedom, and succumb to a lawless maelstrom of passion and desire. Composed of 3 major Musk molecules, one fractionated to fit into a compound, MÉNAGE À TROIS is at once intimate and exhilarating. As a second skin, it races from innocence to deep intensity, yet always stopping short of overpowering." Additional notes include watermelon; available in 100 ml Eau de Parfum.
Supercharged Molécule ~ "based on the classic 234.38 molecule with more strength and depth by letting it soak in the barrels for six weeks." Available in 30 ml.
Oud Couture ~ with top notes of mandarin, orange blossom, bergamot, cardamom oil, black pepper, vanilla, oud wood, sandalwood, rosewood and vetiver. Available in 30 ml.
Buddha Wood ~ with notes of Buddha wood, Australia sandalwood, cashmere wood and musk. Available in 30 ml.

Oh my gosh really we’re making barrel-aged PERFUMES now? What, are they going to dry-hop them next?
(No joke, in Seattle you can buy bourbon barrel aged weed, which makes just so very little sense to me. )
They are not the first to do this — Mugler did it with a couple versions of Angel, and I am pretty sure even they were not the first, but offhand can’t think of the other.
Bourbon barrel aged weed is funny, but it sort of makes sense to me. It’s not altogether different from the various ways people have flavored cigarettes over the years, to make them smell / taste better.
The idea of bourbon flavored weed makes sense to me, I suppose. I just don’t see how the bourbon flavor gets into it if it’s not liquid? I don’t smoke, so I didn’t try it when I ran into it, but it sure didn’t smell any different to me.
Ah, yes, that part is hard to figure.
“Additional notes include watermelon” made me chuckle and I’m not sure why.
Because it’s seriously funny as a component of “lawless maelstrom of passion and desire”!
Yes, that’s definitely it, I think!
Ha!
I own Pink Molecule by Zarkoperfume. It smells like elderflowers, apricots, and creamy woods, but it’s not very sweet (don’t get me wrong; I love the very sweet stuff, as well 🙂 )
It’s unique (I don’t smell elderflower in perfume very often) and pretty. The name is silly, though:-)
