Tuesday scent of the day 2/28

Posted by Robin on 28 February 2017 298 Comments

tea at claridges

Happy Fat Tuesday! What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Etro Shaal Nur, because Catlady4 mentioned it in yesterday's poll. Tea at the moment is Kusmi Troika.

Reminder: 3/3 will be Let Your Freak Frag Fly Friday — wear your oddest fragrance. Suggested by Monkeytoe.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Pileated woodpackers are amazing. They do not look quite real to me. We have a HUGE white opossum that shuffles around our backyard at night) that never ceases to surprise me with its strangeness as well. Although we have pileated woodpeckers in northern Cal, I have yet to see one near the house. Pileated woodpecker sightings seem like they are getting rarer in my neck of the woods. I hope not.

We occasionally see pileated woodpeckers flying by our house, but they mostly stay up in the big timber. We do have a sapsucker that shows up every January and spends the whole day drilling tiny holes in one of our trees. I think it might be the same individual that comes back each year.

Adding to the woodpecker love. We mostly see flickers in these parts–so pretty and the sweetest coo!

We have several types of woodpeckers and flickers, but mainly Acorn woodpeckers – such clowns. That reminds me, I should put out the birdfeeders now that we have a break in the monsoons…

This is off subject but you know, it makes me sad sometime that it’s easier to get samples of niche than designer. I would love some Chanel samples but don’t know where to get them. Or Guerlain. I wear out LuckyScent etc. though for niche lol.

I was decanting yesterday, and spritzed some on this on me instead of the vial, and smelled it all night.
Woke up this AM already knowing I needed more.

I bought this bottle with my very 1st alimony cheque, and every time I spritz it, I smile just a teensy bit.

I was thinking the same thing. The male teachers, dads, grandpas and a local police officer make pancakes for the whole school because it is Shrove Tuesday and the whole school smells like pancakes and maple syrup.

SOTD and weird perfume #2 is Ys-Uzac “Dragon Tattoo”.

Notes: leather, ink, caramel, fruity notes and musk.

Oh Lord, this is pure yuk. I put it on just after a shower, and instantly smelt as if I hadn’t showered in a week, and was trying to cover it up by spraying Lilt under my arms. It’s actually an embarrassment to wear this. I smell like an extra in a kompromat film the Russians might have made (allegedly).

I can handle leather, caramel, fruity notes, and even musk in a scent. Not sure if I can take all of them in one perfume. And, I wonder if the “ink” note is what threw the whole scent off. Interesting.

???? I had to go consult the Oracle on Lilt, and I’m assuming that you’re referring to the tropical soft drink? It was never released here in the U.S., and what I know as Lilt was a home permanent kit from decades past. That would have added another dimension to stinkyness!

The days of subway Etiquette are long gone!
I have gone through 2 preganancies with commuting by subway and bus, and very few times has any one bothered to look up from their candy crush game or take off their headphones to even hear me say, “can I have your seat” Most just chose to ignore my enormous stomach right in front of their face
So don’t feel bad about the coffee being spilt.

They guy looked at my husband and said..she is going to just half to wait until my stop comes and I get off!!!!

19 EDP. Some perfumes are gorgeous and I remember that they are, but 19 is one of those that always surprises me with its surpassing perfection. It’s my most prolific producer of exclamation: “Why didn’t I remember how wonderful this is?!” and “Why don’t I wear this more often??!?”

Happy Tuesday All! Today is my second day back at work since my mishap from my knee surgery. So far, so good (keeping my fingers crossed). I technically haven’t been at work since mid – November. So, trying to get back into the swing of things.
My SOTD is from a collection I had been dying to sample. I took advantage of one of STC sales and got it. I am wearing “Silver Needle Tree” from Jo Malone’s Tea Collection. Wow! This is so pretty, but oh so light! I probably will never be able to afford to buy a FB, so I will have to wear this on “special occasions” The combination of white tea, bergamot, and rose are just heavenly together.

      Be careful with your knee!

I liked one of the perfumes from that collection but there were no SAs in sight even to try to get a sample. And this huge bottle is not something I can see in my collection. I wish they made a set of 9 ml bottles of this collection. Or at least had their usual 30 ml bottles for these scents.

The SA that I usually purchase from at Neiman’s told me that they weren’t allowed to give samples of this collection because it was so costly. I couldn’t go to the store at the time (because of my knee), so she threw in several other samples for me. She felt bad about it. I also got a small decant of the “Jade” one, but I don’t like it as much as I like “Silver”.

I will be careful with my knee. Thanks! :)

Unfortunately, that’s their policy with this line. I practically begged for a sample from the SA, and he wouldn’t budge. But he did give me this ridiculous little tile thing and sprayed the scent on it. Comes in a little cardboard wrapper. Tell me this isn’t more expensive than samples!?!

Abandoned my comfort scent 25+ day roll for weird. Couldn’t resist the week’s theme and it is an excuse to try a few of my more random samples.

So today I am in Delicious Closet Queen. Hmmm. I get the joke. This thing went on like a classic fougere, and I thought ‘uh oh!’ and then ‘nooooooo!’ But the fougere fugue passes after about 10 minutes.

What remains is a pretty blend of violet, leather, and sandalwood. It still veers masculine to my nose, but that is because 1. it started smack dab in masculine territory, 2. I am never quite myself in leathers and so think of them as masculine, or at least butch if not exactly masculine. Leather lovers, this is one to try, I think, if you can bear the fougere opening.

I really like DCQ and to me (she who is not a big fougere fangirl) it doesn’t smell too fougere-y. But then I’ve happily dipped myself in the smell of a steamy alll-nighter with a hot guy so my masc- fem index may be a little askew ;-)

I tip my hat to your joie de vivre in Colonia Oud! I’m usually not too keen on the masc-fem fragrance index generally–not out of some PC principle of perfume, but because I just think the idea of scent being gendered is odd… and yet, and yet, and yet… many leather scents ‘feel’ too macho to me for my rather round and lumpy mid-life lady-ness.

I honestly don’t know what to consider freaky for this project. I have the day off, so tried my sample of Chance eau Tendre. Way to “pink” for me, so I doused myself in Jimmy Choo. I’m still not happy though, I will probably switch again later.

Hermes Rose Ikebana for the last day of the Month of Roses. When I was planning the month, I left this one for the last because I thought it would be warm by now. This winter was unusually cold for NorthCal, so RI is a little too light for today – but it’s OK: spring is coming, I can feel it.

I’m sampling Les Liquides Imaginaires Peau de Bête. To me, it’s mainly a very nice fireside scent and, if I put my nose close to my wrist, some salty skin scent. It’s pleasant enough, but I’m not captivated. It might be the wrong season; should try it again in the fall.

Lot’s of ideas for weird perfumes, led by the weird Duchaufours such as Sienne l’Hiver and Timbuktu. Also SMN Nostalgia and Pot-Pourri, Etro Palais Jamais, Cartier La Treizieme Heure, and maybe Pd’E Tabac Tabou. Le Labo would be another line, and I could probably come up with an early Diptyque.

I am sampling Ella. I’m not sure how freaky it is, but I know that some find it polarizing. It is reminiscent of an 80s powerhouse scent but in a more modern way. I like it but can’t imagine spraying with abondon then headi g to work. I used two small sprays and I can still smell it easily.
My friend texted me this morning about an incident in her office. A woman wearing noticeable perfume came into her office. After she left, some of her coworkers made a big fuss about turning on a fan. Yikes! Glad I don’t work there with the fun sucking, joyless drones.

Oy. My husband had a meeting a few weeks ago and on the agenda was someone’s request that no one wear anything scented, including grooming products. He said they tabled the issue for another date. Sounds like they didn’t feel like dealing with this guy.

I was asked by a co-worker at my last job not to wear perfume. I wondered if he would still have reactions to the layers of grooming products I continued to come to work in.

Your H’s co-worker is requesting a pretty tall order. For me and lots of people that would require replacing about $1k worth of products I use daily, from shower gel/shampoo/conditioner to hair styling and finishing products, everything I use in my skincare routine, the makeup I put on over it, hand cream I apply throughout the day, etc etc etc. Then you’d have to find non-fragranced versions of all those things that actually work with your skin and hair.

Perhaps said co-worker has thousands of dollars to front everyone in this quest? Or said individual needs to work from home.

(I kind of wish I’d been in the meeting ;) )

Actually, it wasn’t for work. It’s a special interest group that meets periodically and it was at one of their business meetings. So the guy doesn’t even spend all day with these people! He sees them periodically and at the end of the day. Agreed it’s a lot to ask.

Yeah I was asked to share a similar request to a workshop that I teach, and the classicism inherent in asking people to throw away things they use, and buy new things (often expensive, hard to obtain new things) was much more offensive than the part about scent.

Yeah, a coworker who came from a poorer country told me that gluten sensitivity(not Celiac) doesn’t exist in his country. It exists where you can afford expensive gf products. That certainly made me look at some of these more modern era issues in a new way.

Years ago I worked at a company where the CEO smoked cigars all day long. Many employees happily smoked at their desks. I wore LOTS of Oscar and Rive Gauche back then. At home I had two clothes closets. One for smoky work clothes and shoes then another for everything else. My dry cleaning bill was huge. Times have certainly changed, but some things go too far.

SOTD – Prada Les Infusions Mimosa which bloomed beautifully in the heat but was a little overblown for the office. Mental note – underspray this one next time.

Thank you for the tip! I’ll be cautious when I start using my small decant (and it’ll last me longer :) ).

SotD = Ambre Narguile, perfectly comfy on a cold, crisp, sunny day.

NSTers, you smell marvelous. Hope everyone had a terrific Tuesday.

So late to the party today…wearing the super-freaky Feu d’Issey. I’m so glad to have gotten a chance to try it but wow this is a strange brew.

Not exactly a freak flag scent today. Cuir Pleine Fleur from Heeley, cause I just finally got a sample. I freaking love it!

I love that one too. I’m surprised that it isn’t mentioned more often. You smell lovely!

So late as usual, but I’m finishing up a month of roses in the wonderful Rose Musk from Pirouette Essentials, a Seattle-based brand. It is a really rich, deep rose with ambery resinous base notes. It is in the vein of Providence Perfume Co. Rose Boheme, Ava Luxe Roses, and DSH Inner Sanctum. I also recommend their Jasmine Musk for jasmine lovers. It is lovely. I still haven’t figured out a perfume that is both freaky and work appropriate for Friday…

Woo hoo! I managed to wear a different rose fragrance everyday in February! Today’s is Lucas’ favorite —

    SOTD = Atelier Rose Anonyme

Spicy Rose Oud and I think I have remnants of Tauer Incense Rose despite having taken a shower.

Work is busy busy busy with barely any time for lunch. When I got home, I had one call and then another call coming up shortly. I have to DVR the POTUS address to congress so as not to miss anything!

I am psyching myself up tonight to make sure I say rabbit rabbit rabbit first thing tomorrow.

Thank you for the reminder! :)

And now I need to go and see, who’s getting chocolate in my draw for the Month of Roses (you still have a couple of hours to get more entries ;) ).

Today I wore Guerlain Vega because I remembered I have somewhat old (10 years+?) bottles of it and Sous le Vent, which I wore yesterday. They’re both pretty nice, but I preferred the latter. Vega is sort of generic aldehydes + florals. Even so, I’m glad to own a bottle. I’m still trying to think of anything I own that’s weird. Does MKK count as weird? I have a decant of it somewhere… usually too afraid to wear it anywhere.
