Happy Almost-Friday! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Black Comme des Garçons, and realizing I could easily go another week, maybe even 2, in Comme des Garçons. I have not loved any of their very recent fragrances, but it is still one of my favorite brands. If they did the same sort of mix 'n match travel coffrets as Hermès, they'd be an equally large proportion of my collection.
Reminder: on 2/24, wear a fragrance by Comme des Garçons, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
SOTD: Eau de Reglisse (Caron). 🙂 No CgG in my perfume arsenal. 🙁
I remember I had a sample of it. Great scent, fresh an spicy.
I have a bottle of this. It is on a high shelf. When I bought it I only had one other perfume and I think I over dosed on them because I never thing to wear it know. Perhaps I need to get it down.
SotD: CdG Blackpepper from a sample. This is my favorite from the line since Blue Cedrat. This is a very, very quiet fragrance after the initial blast of pepper and incense.
S(ip)otD: MF American Breakfast Tea.
American breakfast tea would be coffee 😉
Good one, Robin!
Ha!
This one is malty with cocoa and caramel. It is sort of a tea mocha.
That actually sounds really good!
It does.
SOTD: Kyoto. Usually I wear this in warm weather, but the weather today is quite spring-like in any case. I am wondering if any Ontario NST-ers know a bricks-and-mortar store that carries Comme des Garcons? I have only bought it online, and would like to do some more sniffing in person.
Scent twins once removed–I wore that one yesterday. You smell great.
Another twin! Kyoto is so nice. I only have a decant of this one and Avignon from CdG. Avignon I only sniff for the memories it brings of incense filled church.
I love Kyoto! That’s on my dresser to wear tomorrow. 🙂
I never thought of incense as clean-smelling, but there’s something fresh and clean in this one.
I have that response to Timbuktu, which is not exactly billed as a clean scent either.
Still not a Comme des Garçons. I felt like old fashioned elegance so I’m wearing L’Ame Sœur by Divine. Tea is Goût Russe.
You don’t hear about Divine much anymore. I ran through a decant of L’Homme Sage years ago. I might need to re-sample. I am sure you smell terrific.
Divine suits my tastes perfectly. They are still releasing new fragrances so I’m assuming they are still selling their stuff. I don’t think they were ever mentioned a lot on the blogs.
L’Homme Sage is very good, and you might like their L’Homme Infini as well. It’s a great woody scent not dissimilar to Marc Jacob’s Bang. (same nose)
Happy Thursday, NSTer’s!
I’m in beautiful rut with Solomé again for a dreary, rainy day of attending the minutia of everyday living. Exciting things like bill paying, laundry washing, T-Rex walking…not very glamorous but I smell AWESOME!
The dry down is incredible and while I usually have an awareness of the scent I’m wearing, this one always takes me by surprise when I get a whiff of it later in the day. Just GORGEOUS????????
No CdG here but I really like the incense series, and if a bottle or two (or three!) came knocking at my door, I would happily welcome it.
I am with you. I would not mind if either a bottle of Ouarzazate or Jaisalmer falls in front of my door from the sky. The incense series is really nice. Kyoto and Avignon, the best IMHO.
My problem is there are 5 of them, and I can neither choose one nor afford all five. :^)
Good morning….looks like it’s gonna be a beautiful sunny day here!
SOTD: Etat Libre d’Orange Fils de Dieu. Soooooooo good!!! 🙂
Really want to try that one…totally lagging in ELdO sampling.
Hi, twin!
Love this one.
That is a good one- you smell great!
Love this one too – I have a little sample I’m saving for summer.
I do, too, and wear it year-round.
SOTD: CdG Black
So far my 2nd favourite CdG (saving my no1 for tomorrow). If the sample is empty I may need a bottle of this.
The liquorice and pepper and woods are lovely, especially in stormy rainy weather like today.
Hey twin!
Yay 🙂 We smell great!
Ooh, you had me at licorice! Need to try this one.
I love the taste of liquorice as well. But hey I am Dutch, liquorice candy (drop) in 100 variants are verywhere here! 🙂
Oh and for those of you who have english as first language, licorice or liquorice…erhm
Is this an british english vs american english thing?
Here in the US, it is licorice.
Most Americans use the licorice spelling, but I’ve seen both here.
Yup, it’s one of those American English vs. Correct English things. But it does no good to complain – they stopped listening some time around 1776. ;^D
One of the funniest arguments I ever had with my husband (born and raised in the UK) was over what is a haberdasher. Quaint but obsolete English usage vs accurate Americanisms!
Hahahah 😀
Here in school I’ve been taught UK English, but I messed up my spelling skills by reading a lot of American blogs and websites. I do not bother to clean or look it up when I write a comment. Sorry if I offend someone ;). If I had to write a proper letter I’d probably try to be more consistent.
Oh and haberdasher, thats a great word!!! I had to look up the meaning. see, I learn something new everyday here (I can tel my husband when he tells me I obssess about perfume and perfume blogs 😀
I love CdG too, the first one was my gateway into niche. Wearing
Ouarzazate today.
You smell good! That was my favorite from the incense series, I drained that sample (and the others) a long time ago.
My scent tomorrow, inshallah!
Wearing Pichola today but I wish I has chosen something else. I like Pichola but it’s a little too sweet and sharp today. Wishing for something more earthy and soft, like Apres l’Ondee or Iris Silver Mist. Oh well, I’m not suffering.
“something more earthy and soft, like Apres l’Ondee or Iris Silver Mist. ” – that is exactly my theme in late winter / early spring, and these two are some of my favorite fragrances.
You nonetheless smell great in Pichola 😀
I have a sample of ISM from LuckyScent and all I smelled was roots and carrots lol. I need to retry it. Also, I’m always concerned about how something smells with spraying vs. dabbing from a sample bottle.
That’s pretty much ISM in a nutshell: cold roots and carrots with a bit of a lipstick vibe in the drydown. I’ve never sprayed it either, though, because it comes in a bell jar with a dab stopper though I’m sure there are people who decant it into an atomizer. I also only have a small dabber vial but by applying more heavily I get more of the spice in it.
I’ve got at least a handful of CdG samples and small decants scattered about: a mini of CdG 2 Man, a decant of Zagorsk, two 2ml sprays of Daphne sent to me by two different friends, samples of Red: Carnation and Leaves: Lily, plus Blue Encens and Stephen Jones. It’s just not one of “my” houses, I guess.
I’m in Dame Perfumery Desert Rose today.
Nobody mentions Daphne these days.
That’s been on my “to try” list forever. Of course now you can’t find it. But do you like it? I’ve noticed that for the most part we’re evil scent twins, so your feelings will tell me whether or not to ever pursue it. #lazysampling 😉
I kinda hate it. Not the tuberose part, the other parts. It smells like the Queen in Snow White… attractive but poisonous.
Oh dear… now I have to sample it! Thanks, Mals!
PM me. No way am I gonna use up the bits of Daphne that I do have. 🙂
Wearing it tomorrow, too busy for proper posting today.
😀
It’s not dead!
Daphne was the only scent that I’ve tried from CdG so far. Ordered a sample a while ago from Luckyscent and by the time I tested it, Daphne was discontinued, OF COURSE!!! I loved it, it is indeed poisonous scent retro and modern at the same time, very rich and complex.
Anyone has a decant for upcoming swapmeet?
I love Desert Rose. You smell fantastic!
You smell great! Desert Rose is lovely.
Inspired by She-ra, Coco
french press coffee
Cloudy day
You almost have a haiku. ????
Almost!
Yay…Coco! I am like a virtual Coco cheerleader. 😉 Just emailed you my list of perfumes…have a look see…
Thank you!
SOTD is Comme des Garçons x Undercover Holygrace Undercover.
I am not in the best mood today. Too much work, not enough sleep and in anticipation of spring my chronic back ache has been troubling me for the last several days. So although I had planned to wear my sample of Holygrace, today I considered to choose Avignon instead: it’s not a very good idea to sample a fragrance when one does not feel very well. But the notes sounded so interesting that my curiosity won. So I am wearing Holygrace and I do not regret it so far.
This week someone on NST mentioned SL L’Eau Froide. Holygrace is somewhat similar – a cool incense fragrance, though I prefer L’Eau Froide for its blast of mint. Both fragrances should go well with a clean white shirt. It’s not a realistic fresh laundry scent, but it sort of evokes the feeling of putting a clean shirt. Compared to L’Eau Froide, Holygrace is spicier and less fresh.
I am not instantly smitten, but this is an interesting and pleasant fragrance.
I hope your back feels better soon. Thank you for the description of Holygrace – you’ve moved it on to my “to try” list.
I woke up at my normal time which is 5:00 EST. However, I’m in California so I’ve been awake forever. I’ve done my nails, read a book, enjoyed a Nutella croissant and watched the sun rise over some high hills (or possibly low mountains), and have just plain enjoyed a wonderful morning. I’m wearing Eau des Merveilles today.
Can’t participate tomorrow – didn’t bring any CDG scents with me. However, I really love Odeur 53. If the bottle wasn’t so ginormous, I would consider buying it. Have a wonderful day!
How do people you are around take to Eau des Merveilles ? I am tempted to buy it or a version of it but am afraid it might be too much at work.
I think EdM is a great office scent, lightly sprayed. My bottle lives in my perfume drawer at work.
Thanks for your good wishes.
You had a great morning. 🙂
I should try Eau des Merveilles again. So many people love it!
SOTD left wrist = Voyage d’hermes EdT
SOTD right wrist = same but in EdP, both from samples
The EDP is wearing better on me, but not thinking I need to invest in a FB. there are too many others to explore. No CdG in my stash as of yet!
Y’all have a good day. ????
I have been meaning to buy Voyage for ages, so I should do that comparison too!
You smell doubly wonderful today. Love Voyage EdT and the clever bottle, too. Now I must add the EdP to my list of scents to try someday. 😉
Thank you!
In CdG Avignon. I really had to wear this today. I am having a busy, crazy, annoying week at work and I definitely need to be in a spiritual, meditative, peaceful mood to handle all the nonsense around me. I love Avignon and I am enjoying it.
I think I will wear Avignon tomorrow for exactly that reason. On Fridays I drive an hour and a half to see my 91 year old mother. She has become rather difficult in the past year, frequently complaining that she “wishes she had a daughter who loved and respected her” (sometimes said while I am changing her diapers). Avignon reminds me that I claim to be a Christian so I must do all things with love.
You are an inspiration, not to mention completely suited to wear Avignon while diaper changing (or any other time)!????
I feel and understand your personal situation. I am going thru the same thing already with my mom. Let’s hope for better times with patience and tolerance. Incense perfumes always help big time.
Thanks! It really helps to know I’m not the only one in this situation.
Positive thoughts coming your way for you and your mother…
Thanks for listening, everyone!
Hoping to wear Avignon tomorrow. I have some coming to me from the bottle split from last week.
You will love it. Enjoy!
Scent twins!
SOTD Commodity – Orris. I obtained a sample from my local Sephora because the initial whiff of rooty orris was promising. Alas it turns into a sweet nondescript floral too soon. It reminds me of the (now d/c’ed) L’Occitane Iris Bleu & Iris Blanc.
I had a similar experience. I liked the initial sniff on paper, but on skin I got a lot of screechy woods and your similar faint, nondescript floral. I actually would prefer the L’Occitane to this one.
I decided to try CdG Sugi today – just dabbed on my wrists to start (in case it turned out to be a scrubber on me). It skewed a teensy bit masculine at first, but now (half an hour in) it’s definitely growing on me. Reminds me of a pine forest (and will likely do an arm-to-arm with SSS Pacific Forest over the weekend). Will dab a bit more before leaving for work.
Yay, a convert!
Indeed I am! It’s a little past lunchtime now and Sugi is pretty faint but still very pretty. Think it needs to be sprayed, and what’s left of my sample won’t quite stretch to that. But look! – there it is online, just waiting for a credit card number and a shipping address. Should I wait, try Hinoki first, and then (most likely) buy Sugi anyway? Or just trust my instincts? A rhetorical question; I know exactly how this is going to play out. 🙂
I’m slow – buy both?
You funny. I did order a bottle of Sugi today, but have never tried Hinoki and try not to order whole bottles blind. That said, I often like fragrances that Robin likes, so I’ll be sampling Hinoki very soon. 🙂
I like them both, and also the third monocle, the laurel one. I think I eventually decided I liked Hinoki the best, then the Laurel, then Sugi, but it’s a matter of degrees — I really like them all! If they sold them in small sizes, all 3 would make my buy list.
AG Passion, because I had a dream featuring it. (Thank you, brain, that’s why I feed you good fats, not to have those stupid rising sea / malfunctioing escalators recurrent nightmares.
Sooooo excited about carnaval!!! Can’t wait.
Do good fats really keep the bad dreams away? If so, pass the avocados!
Passion is gorgeous- I especially love the EDP.
Hmmm… new excuse to eat fat… to rid me of my ‘forgetting to set the emergency break in the car parked on a hill that gets dislodged and rolls down towards a crowd of people’ dream?
Ouch, that’s a hard one!
That kind of dream is the worst. My mum used to have a recurring dream that she was backing her car down the driveway to the street, and when she pressed the brake pedal the car wouldn’t stop. A therapist told her it meant her life felt out of control. All she could say to that was “duh.” 😉 The therapist did help her with her anxiety, though, so it was well worth discussing.
My husband REFUSES to use the emergency brake. Period. Our garbage/recycling center is on a steep hill on the way out of our apartment complex (we live in Seattle so there are steep hills everywhere) and he often stops there to drop off trash when we’re heading out somewhere.
EVERY. TIME. I have to ask him to put the emergency brake on. So I feel like I live your nightmare on a regular basis 😐
(He’s never driven a stick so I guess he’s never had a car whose emergency brake was critical – maybe that’s why he’s never developed the habit of using it? Like all my complaints with the way he drives our cars, we will argue about it, then he’ll tell me he consulted with some kind of “expert” who told him his way is the right way. Boff!)
You smell beautiful.
Those impending doom dreams are awful. I have those, also the heart-pounding ones in which someone is chasing me but I can’t see them so I don’t know which way to run. Ugh.
Ohhh, I had a recurring malfunctioning elevator dream for years. It was really scary.
Another recurring one finds me with friends from my 20s at a huge carnival with tons of rides and animals. That one is actually fun!
The most common, however, is the one where I’m at the airport but can’t board because I don’t have my luggage/ticket/passport or am so late I can’t get to the gate in time – or actually do board and the plane can’t take off properly for one reason or another. Don’t need a degree in psychology to figure that one out 😉
I need to train my brain to dream about perfume more often!
I need that training too!. Dreaming of fancy, caloric food would be great, too.
(And well, I guess at least it’s better that our dreams are easy to figure out…)
I’m wearing Demeter Holy Smoke today, as a sort of antidote to the pretty, but way too sweet smell of Dame Mimosa that I wore yesterday.
I also have Dame Mimosa, it is very sweet
I bought some mimosa flowers the other day, and I feel that the perfume is close to the real smell of mimosa
Guys! I have waaaay too many samples and decants! These Friday projects are kicking my butt into gear to locate stuff so that I can participate. Thankfully, I also have a dear perfumista friend who’s on a no-buy, so I am diligently working my way through them and setting the majority aside for her.
So, I’m cooking dal and wearing Baruti’s Chai on one arm. It’s a pretty dry tea scent with masala spices and none of the milky sweetness I was expecting. Plus um, leather. And rose. And other stuff. It goes into the “interesting” category for me. Does anyone else match their perfume to their cooking/dining? And hey, anyone know of a fragrance that has Thai basil? Cuz I love pho.
On the other arm, I’m taking CdG’s Palisander for a spin.
Since I have to save my one CdG for tomorrow, my SOTD is Fate. I like it thus far and think my bf will as well. He liked the the Lonesome Rider but thought it was a bit too masculine- since he wears a leather scent right now, I think that threw him. Of course, I’m going to wear whatever I like regardless, but I think he will like this one today because it’s more feminine. It’s maybe a bit too much for me overall, but since this is my first time wearing it, the verdict is still out.
Oops, I meant to post that below! Sorry!
Hey twin! You smell YUMMY!
What I meant to say is mmmmm, dal!
I don’t have a lot of food-matching perfumes, but am often drawn to SL Ambre Sultan when cooking Italian (must be the oregano). And any vanilla perfume for baking.
Ooh! Great suggestion, thanks!
Sometimes when I know I’ll be cooking most of the day, I’ll wear Womanity which seems to work in the kitchen fairly well.
Thanks! I have yet to try that one.
SOTD: Voleur de Roses (zero, zilch, nada CdG – not even a tiny sample)
This was the only thing I could wear today as I used a new soap (locally made, etc.) when I showered last night. Scent was patchouli, which I like a lot, but I certainly didn’t expect it to be so strong or to last so long! I smell like an old hippie – oh, wait, I *am* an old hippie! 🙂
But a *niche* old hippie!
Lol! Way to own it!
🙂
Yay! Ever since moving out West, I find that old hippies tend to smell amazing AND have the best food.
Huh. Can’t say that’s been my experience but I do have an affinity for real-deal old-school patchouli, which I associate with my childhood (in a good way 🙂 )
Twins! We smell wonderful today.
LOL! Love this 😀
SOTD is CdG Jaisalmer. I was surprised how much this is like Blackpepper. This is more sour and less full on pepper, but they are definitely similar in many respects.
CdG Avignon…Lovely stuff, but somehow it just wears on me after a while. Maybe I overspray this one? It smells good to me but it doesn’t ring that little bell of satisfaction I get from my favorite scents when I get a whiff of them through out the day…
I find that “bell” so fascinating. There are many scents that I wear and think “oh this is nice”, some that I try and think “no, just no” and then there are a few that hit that bell and I think, “yes, this is it, Eureka, I must have it!” And I’m not sure that there is always a common element in those bell-ringers. It’s just a matter of serendipitous connection, and I love it.
lol! Your bell analogy reminds me of how a close friend and I used to use it regarding guys and dating in high school and college. “Bells?”, she would ask. “No bells.”, I’d answer (or vice versa). It came from the lyrics of the song – “there were bells on the hill, but I never heard them ringing… til there was you”.
I love using it now with perfume!
Music Man, right?
I haven’t tried Avignon, but I know what u mean, so many samples I try, I think Mmm, that’s really nice, but then I either forget I’m wearing them or they just don’t speak to me.. So lucky really, my list is so long, I’m always quite satisfied to tick a sample off, without adding to my want list!
That would be an interesting weekly project – Wear a scent that really rings your bell and tell us why.. Because you’re right, I don’t see much commonality in the scents that ring my bell of satisfaction…
I wonder if people would be able to verbalize their responses. For me, when something rings bells it’s entirely emotional.
Also in Avignon. It’s nice, but it doesn’t develop or progress (on me, at least) in any way, which I think is why I don’t love it.
SOTD is “Liqueur Charnelle” by Huitième Art. Notes are cognac, dried fruits, linden blossom, grapes, caramel, vanilla, black pepper, pink pepper, elemi, amber, raspberry, coumarin and tobacco.
It’s neither as sweet (yay!) nor as long-lasting (boo!) as those notes imply. Pleasant, but not inspiring me to add it to my improbable ‘longlist’ or misnamed ‘shortlist’.
It is odd that CdG don’t do smaller sizes, especially discovery sets of their ‘series’ stuff. But probably better for my wallet that they don’t. :^)
Apparently giving names to storms is A Thing in the UK now, so Doris is making noises down the chimney at me and knocking over the wheelie bins. I sort-of get it for Hurricanes, but it’s a bit silly for yer common-or-garden Winter storm. Stay safe all you UK NST folk, we don’t need another devastating tragedy to add to Bowling Green and Sweden. :^P
CdG is a weird house and weird brand and I love it- but you are right, coffrets from the various collections would be nice!
~Never Fjorget~
You guys are making me choke on my tea.
aHAhahaha! 😀 i’m dying over here! LOL
????????????
I liked Liqueur Charnelle quite a bit, but agree that it’s not overly impressive. I got quite a lot of booze in the beginning but it quieted down to a soft tobacco scent on me.
I heard that a poor woman was killed in Bristol by the storm today.
The wind was so noisy wasn’t it! Glad to be cosy indoors now.
Just saw that on my BBC alert. Man, that is terrible! Her poor family!
Yes If CdG did smaller sizes or coffrets with minis of all their lines, I’d probably be spending so much more money on this brand!
So Doris is probably the same storm that plagues the Netherlands right now. We are only a few hundred kilometers (humm sorry, miles 😉 away.
Busy busy busy
The woman at the donut shop this morning asked what perfume I was wearing. She said she got a waft of it and then came straight back to me because it smelled so good. I let her sniff my wrist because honestly I had no idea if it was me or something really good in the bakery behind her. She said it was me. I told her the name of the perfume and perfumer. Her eyes glazed over a little at the french pronunciations, but she said it smelled absolutely wonderful. I was really surprised because it’s such a light scent, but that was a really nice way to start off the day. I’d gotten up really early to do pre-work-for-work errands and make sure stuff was done before my doc appt mid morning.
I’m in L’orpheline by Serge Lutens again.
OOH, what a lovely interaction at the donut shop.
What a nice start to the day , I do love a perfume compliment!
Awww, sweet! And competing with donut smell, no less. Most of my compliments come from behind the counter at coffee places.
Nice, and bet that did mingle nicely with the donuts.
How lovely!
I’m sure that someone who works at a donut shop fails to smell them anymore. I worked at a dessert place for a while that housed a huge commercial kitchen where they made desserts for other locations and retail sales, etc. The smell always made me gag when I walked in the door, but after the initial reaction I developed anosmia or nose tiredness or whatever the proper term is.
Thursday!
1) Update on regime: not bad! have misplaced about 3 lbs, and my workouts at the gym are progressive and I have more energy and stamina. My digestive issues has largely subsided- subbing in gluten free starch sources and eating more greens really does make a difference and make me feel loads better.
2) SOTD: Showered in Aromatics Elixir shower gel and am wearing Chanel Eau Premiere. A couple or workers have told me that I smell REALLY good.
3) OOTD: For some reason, a gray pantsuit, dark blue blouse and brown short boots.
Well done on misplacing those pounds, you’re diet sounds really healthy.
So nice to get those perfume compliments, I love Eau Premiere, it’s on my not very short, Short List.
It’s really a lovely, lovely scent- and quelle surprise!- I like BETTER than the original 5!
The stamina thing is important for me. I am now taking courses to make a career uplift at the end of year (a possible additional $30K a year) and so long days of 14+ hours are now normal.
Congrats on your exercise achievements!
You smell great.
😀 Thank you!
Nope. Nope. I found them. You planted those 3 pounds on me. (Loved your happy post this morning! You’re rocking the day. )
Ha! So that’s where they went!
Thank you! Foggy and chilly in the PNW- perfect late winter day. So glad to share with youse guys!
LOL!!
Do you ever drink kombucha for your digestive issues? I don’t want to get too TMI here, but I suffered from IBS for over a decade (the loose rather than restrictive variety.) About a year ago I ate a diet high in fermented foods (i.e., at least 1 fermented food for every meal for 10 days) and my IBS completely cleared up. Now when my GI tract flares up I drink maybe 6-8 oz of kombucha for a couple of days and it goes back to normal again. It’s seriously magical stuff for me.
I have, as a matter of fact! I drink that, and water kefir, swapping these out when I would usually have an after work wine or beer. I also eat yogurt.
All of that, plus the cooked greens and eating fiber rich gluten free sources, like root veggies and rice, has help a great deal!
I’m looking forward to trying Fate, I love daffodils, and daffodil + Amouage incense sounds like a fantastic combination!
I bet u smell amazing!
I like Fate in small doses. I don’t get much in the way of florals, though. On me it’s all spicy cinnamon baby powder (I think there’s chili pepper in the notes somewhere).
Fate smelled like baby powder on me.
Me too. Red Hots and baby powder.
On me it’s beignets and baby powder, spritzed with Chamade, with chanterelles on the side.
Wow! That’s complex. Is that a good thing?
Some days it’s good, and some days it’s blech. It’s a fascinating perfume and I’m glad to have a wee sample of it to dip into from time to time, but last time I wore it the mushroomy-ness really got to me.
You smell great! I almost wore Fate today. I sat sniffing the spray nozzle for a bit, then went with Dia.
It’s a spicy powder on me as well, especially the dry down. But I actually like that. Not something I’d wear everyday, but I feel like it “goes” with the outfit I’m wearing (yes, I know I’m weird) and I’m enjoying it for the day.
I have a few CdG samples but no full bottles. Will wear one tomorrow. This morning I’m wearing BK Intoxicated. Goes well with coffee!
I’ve got a sample of that one somewhere, must dig it out.
you smell delicious!
Started this windy day in SSS Incense Amber, lovely and just the ticket for the stormy day here in the English countryside.
However I don’t need to add it to my ever growing list, which includes Incense Rose and Ambre Sultan.
I enjoyed my sample of that SSS but also wasn’t compelled to own it.
Stay safe and dry!
I only have one CdG option which I’ll save for tomorrow. I’m in TF Shanghai Lily which was a surprise and much appreciated decant from the last swap meet, since it’s one of the few TFs I really like.
I haven’t tried that one. I got the Noir de Noir for my birthday and I love it. My man’s been rocking the Tuscan Leather. It’s hit or miss with me and TF.
NdN is lovely, and what a great gift! I like the way some if them start out, but don’t like the drydowns on a bunch of them. Money saved! Shanghai Lily is a spicy, creamy lily. Quite delicious ????
you smell wonderful!
Thanks Elizabeth!
No CdG in my collection so I’m going with spring perfumes this week. SOTD is No. 19 with a bit of SL ISM from my (sadly almost empty) decant to emphasize the iris.
Mmm, No. 19.
I’ve been meaning to wear No 19. Will rectify soon. Also need to try ISM. It’s one of those that I always put in my sample cart but take out again. Silly me.
One of my favourite combos but wearing a small dose: Ancient Resins oil under Dries van Noten. But thanks to the upcoming split, will be refreshing my decant. (!)
Off into a sunny, spring is coming and busy kind of day.
I wish I was wearing what you are wearing!
Can anyone else see the notice in red “Your comment is awaiting moderation” above in my comment box?
Odd.
Oh. Now it is gone. Curiouser and curiouser.
Did that to mine all morning too. Gone now.
I think what happened is that the system that looks for spam was running slow this morning?? Not positive. And it did eat up a few stray comments for no good reason.
Did that to mine all morning, too. Gone now, but I just got the comment “Oops, looks like you’ve already said that!” In red. Everyone’s a critic 🙂
Ha!!
well obviously what you said was controversial!?!
Someone finds bell-ringers controversial? And now I see that it printed my last comment twice, even though I told it not to…
Highly recommended combo.
Love Ancient Resins
Yum, you smell fantastic!
We’ve gone into another HELLO, IT’S STILL WINTER spell with really cold temps. Are you guys not getting the icy blasts up there?
I also got the DVN split and would love to try your combo.
Well, cold, but sunny and somethings are budding, and some spring birds chirping etc…
I’m in Galop today, and swooning per usual.
Twins! But having a complicated reaction to it this AM. . . Grrrrr….
Uh oh! Are you finding yourself too appealing?
hee hee!
I’m in Angel Muse today, and taking a break from the office due to all the construction — very unsettling to be sitting under lots of pounding & weird noises.
Hope to step out later to check out the 60s weather we’re having, as well as check on any perfume packages that should be on their way!
You smell fantastic.
Yum!
I am trying Au Coeur du Désert today…
Feels like a more feminine LADDM to me. I think LADDM is beautiful but I always found it to be too much for me to wear somehow…and I am not afraid of grand scents. 😉 Shall see how this one wears…
I like Au Coeur better than LADDM. I’ve found–the couple of times I’ve sampled it–ACdD smells great for a few hours and then suddenly I find I’m tired of it. Not sure why.
I love LADDM, too, but it’s a bit of a wild ride (it’s very active with a lot of movement on me) so I only wear it when I’m ready for that. My impressions of Au Coeur were similar to yours – more feminine, easier to wear – but I’ve only tested it a couple of times and haven’t given it a real wear yet.
Hello, everyone. Another day of working from home, wearing Journey from a generous sample Kanuka gave me. Loving it, though it’s somehow disturbing. Something unnamed in it is sitting just at the margins of my awareness, not doing anything, just being there. It’s a just a little uncanny. This might well be a perfume to wear in days when I need high alertness, because I don’t think it will ever settle in to the background of my day.
Be well, and smell glorious.
In Galop–not loving it. I think I keep expecting it to smell like something else, and so it is a surprise in a bad way each time I get a whiff of this one. I don’t hate it. I get that vaguely queasy reaction from it that you get when you suddenly taste a teensy hint of soap in your soup and worry that your bowl wasn’t rinse adequately when it was washed. Weird, as I found it inoffensive if not earth-shattering last time I tested it. I applied with a heavier hand this time, so maybe that is it.
Has anyone heard from Chocolatemarzipan8 lately? I woke up this AM with a worry about her.
I have been wondering if she is okay too. I hope you find a scent you like better tomorrow.
Yes, I’ve been concerned too.
She has been superquiet,I hope she is OK.
Thought about her last night.
I have also been thinking about her for the past couple of days. Hope everything is fine.
I’ve thought about her, too. Hope she’s ok and just taking an internet break.
I had a similar experience with Galop. I liked it on some tries and other tries I got a bitter, almist mildewy note that put me off.
Just adding that she has been on my mind too.
Good morning everyone! I haven’t been posting or reading much lately – work and life have been a bit crazy. Glad I can participate, a day early – I just have one CdG: Rhubarb. Perked me right up this morning.
Ridiculously warm weather today for February. Trying out Dame Peach Blossom, Violet and Vanilla from a sample. Softly sweet, good for my “office” which is a room full of preschoolers.
It is a gorgeous sunny day here so I am celebrating with Equistrius. I know it is much too early but it really feels like spring.
And you smell FANTASTIC.
I planned on using up my decant of Avignon today & tomorrow, but it’s much fuller than I thought! I like Avignon, but prefer Messe de Minuit when I’m feeling gloomy. Which is just as well – Avignon is barely a whisper on my skin.
I’m thinking Avignon for tomorrow as well.
Apologies for my depressing comment, but who else but NST would I tell?Lol.
I have never been so tired.Drained.Physically/emotionally/mentally.The sale of my house is becoming an unneccesary drag with red-tape from lawyers and trusts. We had our annual stock-take at work today, and February was the busiest month in the history of the hospital. We’re a tiny outfit averaging about 250 operations a month-this month we’re already over 400.My holiday starts next week Monday, and I cannot wait.It has been raining for 6 days straight,non-stop.Unheard of this time of year and in my part of the country. Not really a bad thing, but I NEED THE SUN!!It is Africa after all!!I’m amazed on the other hand about the amount of water that can fall from the sky in six days,My rainmeter registered well over 250mm since Saturday.
In other cheerful news,SOTD!Old-school today in the wonderful retro Givenchy III.Chypre-heaven.
I hope everyone has had an awesome week!
What to wear tomorrow for CdG day!!?
X
Moving is soooooo hard. Selling and buying? Lots of money, huge commitment, big decisions that you will have to live with for a long long time. Stressful? Yup.
Yes,all of that!My biggest frustration is wanting to start with my big decor plans and the perfume room, but the designer helping me with it all, also wants me moved in to the new place,so we can plan around existing furniture and art,and “visualize”…lol.
Let me be the minority voice here: listen to your designer! I’ve spent the last 35 years of my life moving here, there, and everywhere around the world (without a designer, I’m sorry to say) and loved every minute of it. That said, you often don’t notice house quirks that will drive you positively nuts until you actually move in. I lived and worked in Pretoria twice for a total of about 12 years until recently, and I had a total of 3 glorious houses there. That said, as is the case everywhere, electrical outlets are both too few and absolutely in the wrong places…that bathroom tile, which looked great when you bought the house, is actually hideous…I can’t read this book because the wall sconce is strangely WAY over there … why is the dishwasher not next to the kitchen sink? …need I go on? You WILL succeed, Johanob!
Yes, I can commiserate. Moving and working at the same time is horrible. But soon it will be over and the sun will shine again! In the meantime, you smell great!
Thank you foxbins!x
Moving is right up there on the list of stressful events. Hang in there, you can do it AND smell wonderful at the same time, as you are proving today.
I did read somewhere it’s in the Top 5 of worst stressors:moving house! But I will proof it can be done, staying sane, maybe slightly drunk after the holiday starts on Monday,Lol!x
You guys are the best, and thank you for the encouragement!Sending virtual love and hugs back!!xx
It all sounds very stressful. Glad you’re on your way towards a nice, long holiday! And if you’re in the market at all for any custom furniture, I have an artist friend in Joburg who makes really cool pieces. He’s very talented and a nice guy.
Hi Elisa P!Thank you!And yes I am looking for some custom pieces, can you possibly email me more info regarding your friend?johanob attt icloud dott com! Thanks!X
I am wishing sun for you. We went for ages without, I know just how yuck it is. Plus, hoping you have a fantastic vacation, and all the house-sale red tape evaporates…good vibes all around!
Thanks Robin!Upwards and onwards. The sun really does improve my mood when it is out!x
Good luck with the move. Hang in there–your holiday is righ around the corner! Enjoy that rain while you get it; it’ll no doubt be sunny soon enough. ????
Thanks Creosote.Seeing some blue skies this am at 7:24.x
DSH Filigree for me today. It’s a little much now that the temperature has gone from the low 50s to about 80, but I still love this scent.
What are the main notes?
It’s a softly incensey fragrance. The main notes I get from it are the frankincense and labdanum. There’s a hint of something powdery/mossy in the base, too.
SOTD: SSS Cocoa Sandalwood. Bliss! Thanks to the wonderful generous NSTer who sent me a sample 🙂
1. I’m wearing Diptyque Rose de Mai. The black bottle matched my all black aesthetic today
2. I’ve tried and worn the new Sisley Izia and think it’s a quite lovely bright fresh rose that lasts on my skin. I enjoy the sharpness. I don’t really care about the bottle either way–I’ve seen worse–although it does seem completely at odds with the style of the advertising campaign which I much prefer…
3. I think Aqua Celestia is beautiful. I’ve worn it several times as well and think it’s a stunning, sparkling perfume. (and I was very cynical when I saw the press release because I thought–MFK doing another?! one of these types of fragrances?? Aren’t there enough of those in his line? And then, of course, I ended up eating my words.)
It’s a cold and sunny Portland day, perfect for a mountain hike if I wouldn’t be courting death due to ice on the trails. I really need to get some of those slip-on crampons for hiking boots. I can see that spring is on the way so I am wearing Norne, all fir, pine and incense. It’s too much in warm weather so I need to wear it now.
Hi foxbins, thanks for reminding me of Norne. 🙂 I really wanted to try that one for long time. I am a big fan of pine, fir, woods, incense.
Enabler pin for you! After reading your comment I’ve ordered a sample.
Warm day in Cleveland today and wearing vintage Jicky today.
I love Jicky; I can only imagine how good vintage is!
Woke up today at 5 a.m. and was planning on wearing Sisley Eau du Soir, my ultimate WAKE UP AND STAY FOCUSED! perfume, but I had to apply Fate since it was still waffting from yesterday. The longevity of Fate is impressive- it survived shower and still was going strong after 24 hours+.
The only CdG sample I found for Friday project is Dot. Will wear it tomorrow on top of today’s Amouage 🙂
Friday here and I don’t have any Comme des Garçons – I’ve been wanting one of more if the Incense series for a long time, but am unable to decide! Wearing Chant d’Aromes on a lovely but cool morning.
You smell wonderful!
Just dabbed a few drops of Russian Leather by Memo (from a sample) on my husbands arm. Apart from being not that very special (the price is special though), it also makes me sneeze. A lot.
I sampled tons of fragrances and I had physical reaction in just a few cases. By Kilian (instant headache) and JhaG (also headache and sneezing).
I wonder what triggers the sneezing.
SOTD was a sample of Still Life from Olfactive Studio but wasn’t feeling it. I love the citrus & pink pepper open and enjoyed the drydown but the middle seems too fruity somehow.
Planning to wear my sample of CdG Serpentine tomorrow.
Off topic but important – San Diego people, can you recommend a great Mexican restaurant?
Hi there – San Diegan here! Any particular neighborhood and price range? (And all the non-chain Mexican food here is tons better than most places ; )
Yes it is!! I miss So Cal Mexican food.
We’re staying in Point Loma.
Not sure of any right in Pt. Loma, but yelp is your friend! It all depends on what you are looking for -if you want cheap Baja style Mexican (seafood, tacos, etc.), most hole in the wall taco shops or taco trucks are the way to go. Order a (fried) fish taco and you will be happy – you have to get at least 1 while you are here. There are also more “fancy” Mexican places like Puesto, Candelas, Coasterra if you are looking for more high end place. Then there are lots of mid-range places, especially in Old Town which is not too far from you, though it is pretty touristy over there. My 2 fave mid-range places are Cantina Mayahuel (Normal Heights) and Ponce’s (Kensington) – both probably about 15 minutes from Pt. Loma.
Feel free to email me if you want to chat any more about San Diego restaurants or other stuff! jasouza9 at hotmail
Came up with a few more – haven’t tried these yet, but they are on my “to try” list based on recs from friends:
Del Sur (South Park – hip area, cool bars and shops)
Bracero Cocina (Little Italy – hipster-y)
Gringo’s (Pacific Beach – close to the water, so if you’re looking for a view)
La Pinata (Old Town)
La Puerta (Gaslamp/Downtown)
Casa Guadalajara in Old Town is pretty good and has been there a long time…the best of the touristy spots there…the chili rellenos are usually excellent there too…
Like Odonata9 says above Yelp reviews are usually spot on…there are tons of Mexican places so it kind of depends on your price range and if you’re willing to drive…
I’m testing SL Daim Blond today. It’s incredibly dry on me; I can get some of the spice if I stick my nose right up to my arm. At arm’s length it smells indistinguishable from Bottega Veneta to me. I’ll have to apply more next time and see if the effect is any different.
It’s the Rodeo Parade (to coincide with the annual rodeo) today here in the Old Pueblo–the world’s longest non-motorized parade. This means many people are dressed in their Western duds, and school’s out today and tomorrow. Even some of us who aren’t cowboys/girls get in on the fun: like most local kids, I was in the parade as part of a marching band from high school through university. Good times.
How fun! What part of the world are you in? (I’m assuming somewhere in the Americas?) Is there an actual rodeo that follows (with roping et al)?
I’m in Tucson (aka ‘The Old Pueblo’). Yep, the parade is part of the annual rodeo:
http://www.tucsonrodeo.com/about.html
I’m in the Old Pueblo too! Sounds like you’re a native – I’ve only been here about 10 years.
You’re in Tucson too?! (Did you mention that, and I missed it?) Yep, I’m as native as a non-Native American can be. ????
I opted for CdG Kyoto today
Cousins in Avignon. It’s the only one of the Incense series I’ve tried, but the others are on my list . . .
SotD = Voleur de Roses, first time sampling another new-to-me rose. Thanks, kpaint!
Don’t understand the thief in the name, perhaps it’s a nod to a kind of wildness. But I do get the patchouli and rose with a bit of plum, all beautifully combined into a floral-earthy fullness. It’s a happy moment to find a fragrance that is exactly what it purports to be.
I’m looking forward to Friday to see how many times the CDG Incense scents make a showing. I have none to wear, so I’ll spritz on my baby-steps-barely-incense Barbara Bui Le Parfum in solidarity. I love the smell of incense, but don’t like smoke in perfume. Contradictory? No! I’m not hard to please, so long as I get what I want. **waggles eyebrows**
I’m thankful it’s Thursday. Let’s make it a fragrant one.
Glad you’re enjoying it!
I like smoke in perfume but incense doesn’t do much for me, at least based on what I’ve smelled so far. I don’t have any particular associations with incense beyond Nag Champa, which every hippie or hippie-adjacent person I’ve ever known has been fond of burning.
I’ve never been in any kind of religious facility where incense was burned so I often wonder if that lack of association is what stops any *bells* from ringing for me.
Agree with you, I don’t have any memories of time or place tied with with incense, so the attraction is a mystery.
Am enjoying Voleur de Roses more as the day goes on, deeply fragrant but not perfume-y. The rose-patchouli combination is ringing familiar bells as though I’ve smelled it before in a soap, lotion, or another fragrance. Portrait of a Lady comes to mind as one I may go looking for.
My mom has VdR. I’ve tried it, and on both of us all I can really smell is patchouli, after a very quick initial blast of rose. I’m glad you can smell the other notes!
I don’t usually like patchouli but VdR is working for me. I’ll test it again another day to see if it holds up.
I woke up feeling terrible today, and all I wanted were big pretty florals, which is unlike my usual leather/vetiver/fougere tastes. I’m wearing Penhaligon’s Ellenisia, which is quite pretty but not really what I wanted.
I keep thinking about Tom Ford Orchid Soliel- I dismissed it out of hand as so not me and passed my sample on to a friend of mine, but maybe I need to give it another shot.
Ooh, waking up already feeling bad is a bummer. Hope it doesn’t last and you feel better soon!
Tested L’Artisan Oeillet Sauvage this morning. I’m not at all familiar with carnations in perfumery, but OS made me realize that’s what I was smelling in a bottle of vintage L’Air du Temps I bought as a gift a couple of years ago.
Some goodies arrived in the mail so I’m again in white floral heaven with VCA Gardénia Pétale on one arm and vintage Fracas edt on the other, plus the Oeillet that’s still on my hands and wrists. It’s all working together quite beautifully!
Yesterday I wore Esprit d’Oscar during the day, then at night spritzed some Diptyque Essences Incensees Jasmine (thanks to a very generous NSTer!) under VCA California Rêverie and it all melded into the most gorgeous melange many hours later when I went to bed. Ahhhhh…
Continuing Month of Roses —
SOTD = Puredistance White
Rose, orris, sandalwood, musk, veriver, tonka! Love! Smelled great ALL DAY!
Note to Creosote – no one commented on my SOTD yesterday. The person who ho normally wears POAL was out of the office so my Parfum Sacre was a whimper in comparison. Guess what? Based on your comment yesterday about smelling jasmine in Dior Addict (not a whiff of it for me), me barely smelling Parfum Sacre (jasmine is a middle note) and the very poor longevity of my SOTD tomorrow (CdG Red: Carnation) which supposedly has a good dose of jasmine, I will conclude that I must be anosmic to jasmine! I can detect indolic jasmine (mothballs!) which make some of the perfumes with jasmine unbearable (I am looking at you, Guerlain Terracotta).
Smelled in the wild today:
La Vie esr Belle
Spicebomb!
In other news, Saks ran out of the Les Exclusifs wardrobe. I called the boutique mid-afternoon and got through to … voicemail! What’s up with that? I may just take a walk there tomorrow. And BTW, on paper, I think the Box of Eels EDP improved! It is brighter but not as ethereal.
Ohhh, interesting. Well, if I helped you learn something…you’re welcome? Sorry you’re apparently anosmic. ????
Hey, hajusuuri, your jasmine anosmia is fascinating. I love the smell of fresh jasmine flowers. Finding perfume that comes close to the real thing is not easy for me. Some jasmine fragrances I’ve tried smell like a mothball punch to the nose, others are so faint I can hardly detect anything jasmine-like. I do like Joy and, um, Terracotta, along with a few others, so there’s hope I’ll find the holy grail of jasmine perfume someday.
Hey there!
1) You may not just recognize jasmine in certain compositions. For example, some of Hermes’ scents have jasmine but it’s so light and blended with ‘white musk’ to soften the indolic effect, that you can often miss it.
2) I am not surprised that there would be a run on the les exclusifs offering. It is weird that you would go to VM at Saks!
So often, “jasmine” in fragrance notes is really hedione. Wonder if that’s it.
SOTD is Privet Bloom, 5th day in a row as it’s the one I chose to take with me on my visit to my brother. Fragrance shopping has been spectacularly unsuccessful – his local mall’s Neiman Marcus & Nordstrom offerings (actual size of shops quite small) very disappointing , only other reasonable option is Sephora – where I discovered NEST & Derek Lam, both new to me, & I certainly am not aware of their existence at home in the UK. Liked a couple of NEST very much, & the bottles are gorgeous – didn’t have much time to explore Derek Lam as brother was becoming a tad restless! Off to friends north of Houston tomorrow, but not sure if I’ll get to their local Sephora. Leave the US on Mon, get home Tue. Was very much hoping to get Eight & Bob for a friend, but looks like she’ll have to make do with foodie gifts from Trader Joe’s & possibly some posh soap if I can find some!
