Happy Boxing Day! It's also Candy Cane Day. Plus, RIP George Michael. What fragrance are you wearing?
I am feeling a bit better than yesterday, but I'm still sniffling too much to bother with fragrance today.
Reminder: on 12/30 we're doing the Best of 2016 — wear one of your favorite fragrance releases of 2016.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016 (or Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017), where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
I am doing some last minute cleaning in anticipation of guests, so I mostly smell of Mrs. Meyer’s Iowa Pine cleaner, coffee, and sweat.
The Meyer’s soaps are amazing! i wish they would turn some of their dish soaps into EDPs!
I would happily wear Method’s French Lavender Hand Soap as a fragrance if I only could . . .
Hmmm…I would probably want to sample a perfume with those notes. Does that make me weird(er)?
I resisted the Mrs. Meyers holiday scents this year because I had stockpiled so much Caldrea Mandarin Vetiver, but I may have to snag a bottle of the Iowa Pine.
I love Caldrea Mandarin Vetiver! I used to have the lotion.
I got the Iowa Pine in both dish soap and multi-surface cleanser. It’s such a clean scent. I also got the Orange Clove scent during their sale. Love them all….
I always stock up on the holiday soaps this time of year. I must have half a dozen bottles of orange clove dish soap under the kitchen sink!
It’s not hoarding if you use it up within 12 months(ish)! 😀
Robin I hope your cold goes away soon!
SOTD-Arz el Rab
My childhood friend of 48 years is coming for a visit this afternoon…an excuse to bring out my Beleek and have a tea party!!!!
CM8, my mother used to have a HUGE collection of antique Beleek! She was nuts for the woven baskets and older pieces and kept trying to educate me on the various marks. I was a big disappointment to her because I was totally disinterested in her collection. Pretty sure she thought she received the wrong infant in the hospital. Hope you have a lovely time with your friend and she appreciates your Beleek!
My collection is a mishmash as well and I haven’t even kept up with the various marks….I desperately wanted the entire set when I was very young so my parents obliged by purchasing only a few pieces at a time for special occasions…it took numerous years before I finally had a services for five…which is where I am at now….
Deva, I’m sorry to hear that you, too, are a disappointment to your mother! My mother’s mother collected antiques, including china sets, silver, fancy candlesticks and the like, and I fear I’ve always been TOO, too practical and thought they didn’t seem worth the hassle. Now, as my mother ages, I fear she is putting in one last-ditch effort to woo me to her way of thinking, as she would prefer the entire collection stay with the family. 🙁
Thank you, and do enjoy your tea party! That is a china I was not familiar with so will have to spend some time on google images.
the shamrocks are adorable…
and I hope you are better!
How is Arz-el-Rab in the end?
You promised to tell 😉
Oh I love it! I am not an expert at describing but the cedar is soft and it just smells so good…but I have to say the Vanira Moorea was worn by a family member today and it smelled amazing on her! My childhood friend loved the four bottles we have now in our collection (besides the two Christmas gifts there is also Assam of India and Oud al Sahraa so I made her decants of all four before she left….there is something about this line that really appeals to me and smells great on my skin…I would love to have all bottles in my collection.
Enjoy the visit!
thank you ! we ate so much food and she brought Godiva chocolate and 12 cupcakes from magnolia’s bakery…and I made an ice cream cake with pound cake, eggnog ice cream and whipped cream….mmmm….
I am so happy you got to have such a wonderful day with an old friend! There isnt much that can beat chocolate and friendship:)
Glad you’re feeling better, Robin! The posted photo is so appropriate for me as well, but I think I’m at the tail end of the ick, thankfully!
Wanted to keep it simple and uncomplicated after a long weekend working so I went with the no brainer Bvlgari Omnia.
Hoping everyone is able to transition back to work life smoothly today. Those of you off all week, I’m SO jealous!
Happy After Christmas Monday to all. ????
Get well soon!
I am off all week, AND they’re predicting another snow storm next week. I may never return to school.
Are people in the US back at work today? Eek. Today and tomorrow are bank holidays here.
I was wearing L’Eau d’Hiver earlier and Olfactive Studios Lumière Blanche now. I still like the Malle better.
L’eau d’Hiver is so lovely! I wish it was a bit MORE on me, but otherwise, I have no complaints about it. I really should reach for it more often. I haven’t tried Lumiere Blanche. Is it in a similar vein?
To me it’s similar in that it’s a transparent, airy scent, but not much beyond that. It’s a beautiful light sandalwood 🙂
You smell wonderful! L’Eau d’Hiver trumps Lumiere Blanche in my book, too 🙂
Alot of people are off today. I am pretty sure it is just us service industry folk working.
Ha! I didn’t figure out today that the banks were closed here in the U.S. until I went to both of my banks and found out. Thank God for Google, because when I have no clue what something is or the definition, I Google it. I didn’t really understand the meaning of “boxing day” until I Googled it. That’s when I learned that it is the business holiday after a major holiday when it falls on a Sunday. Hence banks, mail services, liquor stores, trash pick-up, etc… are all closed today. They say we never stop learning. I actually learned something new today. Lol!
I’m wearing Arbole which I bought myself for Christmas, and my old cashmere socks, robe and plaid pyjamas. Don’t intend to get dressed any time soon, if at all. I love Boxing Day!
I love boxing day too 🙂
Snuggly in Sweatpants and Tam Dao. Cleaning my house. I haven’t really cooked anything in days, I don’t understand how come every dish in the house is dirty! So, I am washing dishes 20 minutes, then taking a break and doing something else for 20 minutes. Now time to get back to dishes…when they are all clean, I believe I will reward myself with a return watching of Love, Actually. Hope it seems as cute as the first time around. We watched Miracle on 34th Street yesterday, but it is starting to seem a leeeetle dated, so I am looking for another nobrainer feelggood movie. My list includes, Enchanted April, Cold Comfort Farm, A Good Year, Casablanca, Dances with Wolves, The Wizard of Oz, and the afore mentioned 34th St. What other movies do people watch for sheer pleasure?
I love Love, Actually! Some other comfort/pleasure movies for me are While You Were Sleeping, LA Story, You’ve Got Mail, and The Princess Bride.
The Holiday,I loooove that movie!(Winslet and Diaz swop houses over the holidays…)
2nd this, just watched for the first time and it is fun.
My favorite easy watching treat is Clue the Movie.
(not a holiday movie, just realized you might be looking for those. Still, my favorite!)
I loved The Holiday!
Love Actually still makes me cry every time I watch it (the proposal scene gets me *every* time). For holiday feel goods, I agree with Miracle on 34th Street, and I don’t mind that it’s dated. 😉 Away from the holidays, if I want to snuggle in on the sofa, I often reach for Flight of the Navigator. (The other movie that brings me to tears every time, inexplicably, is Armageddon. Go figure.) Or to really show what I nerd I am, I *adore* listening to the actors’ commentary on the Lord of the Rings movies. It’s like watching a good movie with a room full of funny, charming friends. (Try to restrain your pity until you’re out of eyesight, if you don’t mind.)
Emma Thompson, swallowing her tears, with Joni Mitchell in the background. That movie is really good.
Oh, that scene is heartbreaking, isn’t it?!
Oh, that proposal scene … Colin Firth doing pretty much anything gets me every time. I’ve been in love with him ever since he was Mr. Darcy in the BBC miniseries of Pride and Prejudice years ago. Yummy.
Yes, exactly! I own copies of the miniseries on DVD, and that’s another pick for “feel good” when I need something that lasts longer than a few hours. 🙂
Such a popular choice!! My daughter & I watched it together too. Can we all be ‘Filmsees’ rather than twinsees?
Today I am stuck on the same couch sneezing and coveting my Kleenex in support of Robin & others, perhaps tonight we will watch ‘Crazy, Stupid Love’ if we can find it. No scent today, I did love Iris Nazarena from Aedes’ Christmas special yesterday. It is so refined!
Happy Boxing Day & Holidays to all.
You’re not alone with “Armageddon”. There are SEVERAL scenes in this movie that I cry like a baby. I had a hysterectomy last summer and thought that part of the fix would be me being so emotional. I seem more sensitive now then before the surgery. I keep asking my doctor if they forgot something…….lol!
Hahaha! Thank you, that’s very reassuring. 🙂
Good morning meredifay! In pjs and the leftovers of Ambre Des Merivilles here.
I love Enchanted April. I repeat watch Everafter and Persuasion for the sheer joy of the music, atmosphere and scenery.
We had a huge crowd here for two days so we’re cleaning in shifts too. I call December 26th ‘evidence day’- evidence we have sweet loved ones that came to see us. It makes the cleaning ups after sweeter!
Hope you enjoy your movies and perfume smelling day!
I always enjoy Home for the Holidays with Holly Hunter, Robert Downey, Jr, and a ton of other fabulous actors. It’s poignantly hysterical in a dysfunctional family way. Never fails to make me feel better if the Holiday Blues are visiting.
I just watched Love Actually on Christmas Eve; I love it! I’ve watched it every year for several years now and IMHO, I think it just gets better.
In the “dated” category, I’m a fan of The Bishop’s Wife with Cary Grant and White Christmas with Bing Crosby. I don’t think Cary or Bing ever become dated though! 😉
Enjoy your movie!
LOVE White Christmas! Was there ever a waist tinier than Vera Ellen’s?
That really is a good one. I, too, get fixated on her waistline, though! My mom, who is very proper generally speaking, said that as a kid she couldn’t watch it because the visible gap between her legs embarrassed her!
Now I’ve got to watch and look at her waist! I honestly don’t remember remarking on it. My sister and I *do* serenade each other with the sister song from that movie.
Have heard that she was totally anorexic, which makes it harder to watch, but my daughters do a fierce rendition of “Sisters” to this day.
White Christmas for sure. My sis and I always sing “Sisters” when we are together at Christmas!
We had fun watching White Christmas yesterday, though it’s Danny Kaye that I looove.
He was great in that movie – “she dragged me into it … I don’t weigh much”. Chortle.
Enchanted April and Love Actually are two of my favorite movies for repeat viewing. Reading Enchanted April is also a treat. At one point in my life I had a thing for Baz Luhrman movies and can (badly) sing my way through the soundtrack of of Moulin Rouge! upon request.
Our family indulges in pre- and post-holiday viewings of Elf (Will Ferrell!), A Christmas Story (“Daddy’s gonna kill Ralphie!” just gets me every time), and sometimes Christmas Vacation (but only when the littles are asleep). hee-hee
Love A Christmas Story – probably because it is such a literal rendition of growing up in the ’60s!
Hi Meredifay – wearing my 31 Rue Cambon!!
My very favorite feel-good movie of ALL time is The Dish, an indie Aussie film made in 2000 -part fiction, part true. I don’t think many people here have heard of it, but please google – it’s just lovely.
That was a great movie! Loved The Dish.
That is a classic Aussie movie and was pretty popular down here in NZ. You might also like Kenny…about a portaloo ( portable toilet ) contractor, which is funny and full of heart, too. The other ‘classic’ Aussie feel good movie is The Castle about a family being thretened with eviction for an airport expansion…Eric Bana is great. But if you’re Australian you will know all that!!
Kanuka, I am not Australian and did not know about these. Thank you so much for the suggestions!
Same here re: dishes, though we just ran out of dishwasher detergent and the roads are icy 🙁
I still loved Love Actually when I rewatched it on Christmas Eve. It was quite cheesy, and now that I live in the US (and Wisconsin, at that!) the ‘weird dude goes to Milwaukee and finds sex goddesses’ storyline was even more absurd haha. Still it was lovely and I could emphasize much better with the adults compared to when it was first released, when I was still a teenager ;).
I try to excuse that the girls from “Wisconsin” have Texan accents and wear fringe and cowboy hats. . . it would be more appropriate if it were sneakers and a cheese hat!
Haha indeed. With some flannel thrown in too 😉
Love, Actually is very sweet, and I also like Knotting Hill in that category. I do love Meet Me in St Louis as a classic musical. It is far less dated than one would think. The script is very funny. I also like The Proposal, as far as rom-coms go.
My husband came home and “caught” me watching Eloise at Christmastime, and then enthusiastically joined me. It’s awfully cute, gotta say.
The Young Victoria, Pride and Prejudice (Kiera Knightley version), About a Boy and Tootsie are all movies that never fail to move me or make me laugh.
That would have been my suggestion. It’s one of the few movies that I actually own. I watched it the other night. I also enjoy the Movie Leap Year with Amy Adams.
Jolie Madame today,violets and a leather saddle.It might be my only real leather-love.Because the violets,you know.I colored my hair purple.Semi-permanent.Just saying.Lol.Happy Monday!!x
Love it…everything!!!!
????
Adore Jolie Madame. I can’t imagine having purple hair myself, although it makes me happy to see unusual colors on other people’s heads, so thanks for spreading some happiness!
Thanks!Haha!I’ve wanted to do it for ages!!Next up(6 or so washes from now)Brent Leonesio-inspired blue…
I used to change my color frequently in my twenties and even 30s. It was good fun but lots of work to keep it up. I had black hair with a blue streak in front at one point and when my brother was getting married, his then fiancé asked if I was going to dye the blue streak black for the wedding. I think I said I didn’t think so and she was somewhat horrified and said ” ok, if you don’t mind looking like your hair is bruised in the pictures…” Anyway, I’m going to live vicariously thru you now.
Haha!I went blue-black years ago,but my hair has been basically every color under the sun in my youth.I think this year’s becoming 40 was the final push to go for the extreme purple/blue/pink!Plus,people rarely think I’m older than 30….lol.
Love the violet perfume and hair combo. I was gazing at blue dyes the other day as I have greying hair that has gone a bit brassy in the sun…so I have perfume and hair envy! What brand of semi permanent did you use? We only seem to have ‘fudge’ colours.
Hi Kanuka, not sure if the brand is available worldwide, but it is Renew, sold under a Unilever licence here in S-Africa.They currently have this plum-purple,superbright pink and a turquoise-blue on the shelves.I’m gonna do them all in sequence.Lol.
Purple is fun! I used to do a bright poppy orange but that’s as interesting as I got….
Hmmm!I might add that poppy-orange to my line-up!In the event of an epic fail,I have a no.2 hairclipper on standby.
Now, all you need to do is buy that purple…Smart Car, Jeep, Hummer. Watch out world!
Haha!Oh dear Hajusuuri, you know me wayyyyy too well already!!Lol.#2017Goals
I bet the purple looks great on you! Depending on the sunlight, sometimes my hair gives a purple tint.
My boss colors about a handful of the hair at the base of her neck. Her hair is long and so when she drapes it over her shoulder you see the purple. I really love it! It’s temporary, and it’s fun.
Yum, love Jolie Madame! You smell great!
I’m pretty conservative but I’m sure that you’re rocking that hair color.
No SOTD, yet, as I have had to drag myself out of bed early enough to get a bird in the oven. Yes, I have one more Christmas to celebrate. I look forward to the day when Mr. Spicebomb and I have figured out a more efficient way to do this! (Next Christmas we hope to be on our honeymoon in Italy, so we have some time to think about it!) At least turkey doesn’t require the endless activity of pie baking, like yesterday, so I should have time to slip off to the gym and get in a good workout. Hopefully there aren’t too many early resolutioners crowding out the little place!
Holiday juggling gets interesting here too. I’m not sure it was efficient, but we finally told everyone they could come Christmas Eve or day and what times dinners were- and, ‘let us know which you can come to.’ It worked out pretty well. 22 of the family were here together, for a few hours, and it went pretty smoothly! As you say, At least turkeys are pretty low prep. Happy holiday gym workout to you! ????
Having enough space for everyone here would make it much easier! Someday, perhaps. . .
Still smelling of Rain Cloud which I applied yesterday evening before getting together with my best friend & her family – got home at 4am (!) hence lack of getting up at a decent hour/bothering to shower. News of George Michael’s death broke during the evening – so glad I took the opportunity to see him, some years ago, at Earl’s Court – great gig & he came across as a lovely man. Thought Rick Parfitt’s death the other day would bring an end to the run of famous deaths this year, but sadly it didn’t.
I’ll never forget the electricity in the air at Madison Square Garden when George Michael joined Elton John on stage. Even in that huge venue it seemed like GM was singing right to the heart of each person in the audience. Amazing.
My New Year’s resolution is to stay better connected to old friends. Nothing is more therapeutic than time with an old gal pal who knew you when…..!
Thanks for your note yesterday. Work has been rewarding but with insane hours these last couple of months. And I am still cooking, yes! Well. Not at the moment. It is leftover yam and ginger pie (from a cute hipster bakery that will probably stay in business for a New York minute as happens to most really great bakeries that spend too much on proper ingredients and trained staff), hot coffee, and NST in bed this AM.
Had a quiet & cozy Christmas yesterday. Santa restocked my Rose Jam for the year. I’m also the very delighted owner of a new bottle of Wit. Lovely, simple bottle and a scent my husband enjoys as well. Happy!
No work for me this week! Have a couple of fun things planned around the city but at the moment I’m still in bed trying to kick a cold.
SOTD: a little bit of Lush Sleepybaby lotion
Feel better, Floragal! And congrats on the Wit!
Thanks!
Tylenol helped with the fever but not yet in the clear.
Lovely presents!
What a nice Santa you have 😉 I feel a bit worn out after battling various Lush platforms for over an hour for their Boxing Day sale. I can’t complain though- I did score a few sets that include Rose Jam, Dream Cream and the Serendipity soap 😀
Feel better soon!
I think I was in the 30,000 range in line. Crazy!
Sounds like your wait was worth it. Yay Rose Jam for making so many happy!
It really does! Next year I will buy a big bottle in store though. The sale madness was a bit too much.
Hope you feel better! Really great gifts you got- Wit is so lovely. I got my sister in law a Rose Jam gift set with the shower gel and Jason and the Argan body conditioner. She opened it, gave a quick sniff to the Rose Jam and threw it back in the bag with no reaction. I’m not sure that she was as enamored as I am with it. I should have snagged it for myself 😉
Well that is quite the reaction! Of course not everyone has the same love for scent as we do but how can one not like rose jam is beyond me.
Thanks for the well wishes. 🙂
Oh gosh, I come from a big “gifts as love language” family, and not making any effort to respond to a gift in front of the gift giver, boy, that is simply not done.
Maybe your brother can swipe it for you later 😉
Oh nice! Wit! Glad you can take it easy this week.
The only scented gift in our house was my gift of a big bottle of Colonia to my husband. Because I love it on him.
Aww, that’s so sweet. I wonder if a day will ever come that my husband takes interest in a scent for himself.
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
Stay cozy, floragal and kick that cold to the curb!
I’m continuing my Azemour streak today. Took a break for Christmas Eve and wore Taklamakan, which was lovely when crammed into the sweltering church for the Children’s Mass.
I was too busy to log in and wish everyone a Merry Christmas or holiday of your choice but I enjoyed catching up this morning. Today is a nice day off before our annual trip to the border begins tomorrow. Will be hiking about in the damp pasture with the kitties all afternoon.
Are we talking about Mexico? My company has big operations in Texas and we used to consider it a different country 🙂 (flags of all different countries and someone always snuck in the Texas state flag)
Yep. If Texas is a different country, which I don’t dispute, the Rio Grande Valley is its own planet. My husband jokes that we have a secret language.
No scent today. I had a persistent sinus headache all day so kind of tried to take it easy this afternoon. I ended up seeing a lot of fabulous art today at a local artist’s studio. This is someone who is really into shiny things and glitter and works with painting in an incredible assemblage way. It’s as if Louise Bourgeouse (sp?) got hold of a bedazzler and went absolutely insane with it. The artist gets his rhinestones by the kilo in China and has three adjacent studios here in India, all filled with the most fabulous work.
I also visited the home of a very wealthy older couple from Chennai. They are looking to rent out the top floor apartment, but they were just so gracious and lovely, the man’s wife served us coffee and when we left, she went into the household shrine room and brought out a tray with a little bowl of vermilion powder which she applied to my forehead and a bag with a beautiful silk saree and a small collection of Indian beauty supplies which she presented to me as a gift. Absolutely lovely, cultured people.
I’m really enjoying hearing about about your experiences in India! What a lovely encounter. And I would love to see what that art looks like. LOL at Louise Bourgeois with a Bedazzler 😀
Some people have the impression that wealthy people are full of themselves (and some are) and then you have a personal encounter with genuinely nice people who just happen to be blessed and they shower the same thing on you. Wonderful!
I love that story! I had really magical times in India when I was traveling there about 30 years ago, now. Among the most improbable adventures were the time when my traveling companion’s red high top tennis shoes were nicked from her backpack and replaced with bright blue silk embroidered slippers, and when I found myself giving a lecture tour of impressionist art that was part of a temporary exhibition at the national gallery of modern art in Delhi to the brother of Vikram Seth, a monk.
SOTD – SSS (natural) Spiced Citrus & Vetiver – perfect for our record-setting high temps today!
Also, RIP to the Russians who died in the plane crash yesterday. 🙁
Yes, the news of the plane crash made me sad. The choir was on their way Syria.
I need to order this. I found my travel spray of Amber Incense and will wear that later unless I change my mind.
This and the Cocoa/Sandalwood one are my favorites in the natural line. I didn’t buy Amber Incense (although I loved it) because it was too close to Incense Pure for me to need the additional bottle.
What I *really* want – and Laurie has threatened to make for a few years now – is a natural version of Champagne de Bois!
So very sad. 🙁
SOTD is Elixir Des Merveilles. Always loved this but only today realized what an excellent Christmas scent it is.
Spent the last few days with a small sample of my family as many are gone and others out of town so a little bittersweet as this time of year can often be. It has been great to spend extended time with a nephew I don’t see often and who has become a lovely young man.
You smell marvelous. Elixir des Merveilles is perfect for this time of year. Eau des Merveilles is also firmly attached in my mind to this season. I think it’s the Hermes citrus, it reminds me of fresh oranges and tangerines in winter.
It reminds me of my grandmothers homemade Italian cookies. That chocolate & orange rind flavor with nuts is a perfect holiday scent.
Nice memory! I should really get a bottle of this one already.
I love that fragrance, but hadn’t thought of it for winter. Will try it when (if) our Texas weather ever turns cool again.
Hey-ho, NST, I have a sugar hangover this morning so am happily scent-free at present. Yesterday was filled with “eat a bite of this and that” all day long. Poke me with a fork, I think I’m done eating for a while.
Had a bit of a zen moment last night as I did the washing up after dinner (for 12!) while my mum dried things. It seemed like we were at the kitchen sink for just a few minutes though more than an hour passed.
family + friends + food + fragrantly soapy warm water = a moment of bliss
Doing dishes and ironing are quite meditative.
Agree, I find ironing quite calming, and fragrantly interesting too.
I love ironing and laundry. Thankfully, my husband is okay with dishes….
Sounds like your DH is a perfect match. 🙂
Good for you for being so present in the moment that you actually enjoyed doing those dishes with you mom! I’ve noticed that it’s the “quiet” household chores that I enjoy, like dishes or folding clothes right out of the dryer. I hate the noisy ones like vacuuming!
You know, after a happily noisy day it was quiet when we got around to washing the dishes, that’s probably a good part of why I zoned out. 😉
I can see that being blissful 😉
I had a similar zen time with my Dad while he washed dishes and I dried. 🙂
Merry Christmas & Happy Clean Dishes!
SOTD SL Gris Clair. It is putting me into a lounging mood- I so don’t want to tackle dishes and laundry ????
I don’t understand why there is so much extra laundry at the holidays, but I’ve got the machine going non-stop here.
Happy boxing day! Off to yoga class, will be wearing Profumum Meringa when I get back and have my shower.
Good for you, I should have done yoga today but didn’t.
Just woken up and sprayed Beloved. I like both Journey and Beloved and would be happy to try more of the Amouage line… That’s a bit like saying I would be happy to live in a mountain chalet in France , i.e. aspirational.
Get better Robin…snuggle up ont the couch with a good book and drink lots of tea.
Beloved is sooooo beautiful. You smell great!
If you have time for coffee when you come up to Ak for your research at the museum, I’ll bring you samples of Epic, Fate, Lyric etc. I’ve got some of the older ones. World has Myths and the yellow one, but I wasn’t smitten. Hope you will have time!
I would love that, thank you.
I know what you mean. I’d be happy to live in a lake chalet on Lake Como. I could manage.
You can get samples of them pretty inexpensively… I recommend Fate, but I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. But everyone does seem to like Gold, which is, imho, their classiest.
I think I am attracted to the names: Fate, Epic, Myths which colours my response to the actual scent
Thank you — that is how I spent much of the day. Again 🙂
Mmm, Beloved. So good! You smell wonderful.
Made cookies yesterday with a friend and am now in Ambre de Merveilles
Cookies and L’Ambre des Merveilles equals a match made in heaven 🙂
Happy day after to everyone! I’m back home and enjoying the calm and my day off. The hubs is back at work today and I’m running errands in a somewhat empty city, will color my hair (not purple, unfortunately), and then am meeting a friend to go see the Christmas lights in the Dyker Heights neighborhood in Brooklyn. It’s an historically Italian neighborhood that is known for the very elaborate holiday lights and decorations on the homes there. It’s become an unofficial attraction and destination here and I’ve never personally been.
I’ve eked out the last drops of my Teint de Neige sample and am very tempted to get at least a nice sized decant but I’m trying to adhere to my no-buy at least until mid January- I’m setting more reasonable sounding goals for myself, though even a few weeks sounds like an awfully long time!
I was sad to hear about George Michaels. Wham and his solo stuff were part of the soundtrack of my teen years. He had quite a rough emotional life and it’s sad he never seem to overcome whatever his demons were. It’s been some year for the music world.
I’ve seen segments about that neighborhood’s decorating on the morning news shows! Wow! Pretty impressive and I bet even more so in person.
And not to enable or anything, but Surrender to Chance is having 20% off of everything today, code Boxing 2016.
I just saw that email :-O I can always renew my vows tomorrow, right? I’ve also only seen pictures or news items. I live in Brooklyn but it’s pretty far-like over an hour on public transport. But this will be the year (if it doesn’t rain too badly later)!!
Definitely – renew tomorrow (the Scarlet O’Hara mentality!)
Living in a state with quite a bit of open country, I don’t think of distances being that far in the NYC boroughs.
“not to enable or anything” = mwahahahahahahaha
This is the bestest most terriblest group of people I’ve ever met <3
😀 I thought the same thing!
Yep- 5am on the couch I scored 5 mls of Winter nights!! Yes! Now TPC has 20% off today only, got more Cuir d’Ange & Vetiver Tonka!! Retail therapy is better than decongestants!! Wash it down with some hot tea, Merrily …;)
Oooh, enjoy the decorations. Christmas Eve we passed by a bunch of brightly lit houses on Staten Island but not quite an entire neighborhood of festively-decorated houses and lawns!
I think they do that on SI too, and I’ve heard it almost rivals Bklyn, but I’ve only been to Staten Island once in my 23 years here and don’t wanna break my record 😉
It has been some year for the music world. I grew up to George Michael’s music. Always loved singing to this songs, and still can see me and my classmates on our bus trip to DC all belting out careless whisper.
Have fun viewing the holiday lights!
George Michaels passing was a shock to me as well. And you’re right, we have lost too many artists / entertainers this year. The biggest for me was Prince. Both George Michaels and Prince were a huge part of my teen / early adult life. When something like this happens, I feel a little piece of me dies with them. Its amazing how music has such an impact on our lives. May they rest in peace.
Very best of days to all! I’m back from Whanganui, but my dear one has stayed behind to paint and do Manly Things Around the House. Dakkie and Isabella have only just begun to speak to me, and I think I preferred their silence–they DO NOT LIKE. the cat carer. Nobody told them we were going away. They DO NOT APPRECIATE independent decisions in their humans….etc, act, ad infinitum.
Like a lot of NST-ites today, I too am doing housework, but of a different a sort: I’m tidying cupboards and wardrobes and drawers. My policy for getting through this sort of depressing housework is to be glammed up: dress, nails, makeup, a perfume-y perfume like Misia or 22 or Epic, and lots of it. I think I do this because I have to make so much mess in order to produce tidiness, and in the middle of the comprehensive muddle, I at least am presentable. So here I am, turning out drawers and cupboards, wearing my new Chanel eye shadow and vintage Joy., and its not even 7 a.m.! Onwards!
Fabulous. When you’re done, come on over and help me pack the very very last of my boxes before my move back to the city!Need.Help.x
How I wish I could. This is the sort of job that could be fun with conversation: “What IS this?” “I don’t know…I think it’s part of the clock. Don’t throw that blue thing away. It’s Richard’s beeper.” “What’s it for?” “I don’t know. It’s Richard’s.” “What’s he do with it?” “He beeps it….” etc
Haha!Yeah!!Plus,I need a careful-hands helper with the very last items:my perfume collection.Imagine the fun. We’ll probably get stuck spraying and not finish the actual packing part….x
That is such a Fabulous idea, I must try it!
Go B Audrey Hepburn for us all!!
Sad about George Michael, 2016 was really disastrous when it comes to famous people who passed away.
On 2nd day of Christmas I’m wearing another iris – this time it’s Iris Fauve by Atelier des Ors.
So glad I’m on holidays until the end of the year.
This is still not available at LuckyScent! As an aside, my spellcheck keeps changing LuckyScent to LickyScent.
Your spellchecker is the best. 😀
LOL!
LickyScent could be some weird concept of a thing you need to lick in order for it to start releasing perfumes 😀
Hope Iris Fauve will be there soon. It’s not being launched until January. I believe I might have one of first bottles in the world?
Ha! A special perfume for a special person!
Bunch of new fumes on LickyScent I’m eager to try including this one.
A new Neela Vermeire as well!
Ambre Nue is my SOTD
I’m off work today and enjoying a light spritzing of Forest Walk this morning, but soon have to shower it off and go do a Pilates session and run some errands. Wish I had the energy to find the paint supplies and touch up some wall damage, but … I don’t.
Have you tried Pacific Forest?
Taking a boat to Victoria for a24 hour trip in hinoki. Hopefully will have thrift scores to report when I check in next!
One of my cousins lives in Victoria and I have a standing invitation to visit. Maybe next year? I am booked for an Alaskan cruise that starts and ends in Vancouver.
I think we need to organize a Vancouver meetup. 🙂
:-). Once I firm up my pre- and post-cruise itinerary, I will send out meet up feelers.
I read that and found myself wondering where Hinoki is 🙂
Ooh, fun! The Christmas lights in Victoria are beautiful. Have fun!
Trying out my sample of L’A’s Noir Exquis today. At first sniff it strikes me as VERY similar to Tokyomilk’s Bulletproof No 45 – I might do one wrist of each later this week and compare.
Still debating that bottle of Nahema at Neiman Marcus! Unfortunately I already impulse bought a bunch of George Michael songs at iTunes AND hit the Hanna Anderson sale for my kid, so probably I need to put the credit card away . . .
My cousin’s wife recently gave birth to twin girls, releasing my inner pinkness and credit card on the world of Hanna Andersson!
Get on their mailing list if you haven’t! They have great sales all the time (including today).
Still commando, finishing a late lunch.
We visited a sick uncle and I thought it best not to be scented although I swear I can still smell the remnants of yesterday’s Dior Homme. My uncle looked 10x better than he did two months ago so yay! For those who have not tried Dior Homme, you simply must – Top: lavender, sage, bergamot; Mid: iris, cardamom, amber, cacao; Base: patchouli, leather, vetiver. What’s not to love?
On our way home, my mom wanted to stop by an Indian store. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been to one but it looks like I should stop in more often. While mom shopped, I checked out the snacks aisle (I ended up not buying anything) and the Pooja section and had a field time smelling all the incense scents.
We also passed by a restaurant named Shalimar. The cuisine, from what I can tell passing by, was confused and showed up on 3 different signs: Desi, Thai, Chinese, Afghani and Pakistani. How’s that for food (con)fusion?
There’s an Indian store here that makes their own masala cashews that may be the best thing I’ve ever tasted. Fortunately, nowhere close to me.
I’ll have to check it out next time I’m at the store!
Indian stores are fascinating. Always interesting things to look at and some to even try. That Dior Homme does sound amazing!
Wonderful news on your 10X better looking uncle! Family visits I’m sure help him a lot 😉
As someone who does not like hot / spicy foods, my Indian food choices are limited but whatever I end up having is usually pretty good.
We have a large extended family and we try not to overwhelm.
Three cheers for Dior Homme! I got it for my bf as his first very own bottle and it has been so amazing smelling it on him….Iris, then lavender then smoothing down to the cacao. I’m sure I’ll be stealing a spritz for myself from time to time, too.
It is unisex and you are wise to sneak a spritz here and there 🙂
Love Dior Homme, you smell great. We have several Indian stores here, always interesting to have a nose around in them. Glad to hear your uncle is better!
Thank you!
Girding myself for day 3 of cooking (but first a round of Harry Potter Clue with my youngest!). Thinking of taking a shower to procrastinate so no fresh perfume this AM. My husband surprised me with a bottle of Chamade parfum for Christmas, so am still enjoying the remnants of that from yesterday. Given what he probably spent, I think my Kiki-testing fantasies at Scent Bar when we are down in LA for New Year’s may have to be postponed…. But maybe if I am just testing… Window sniffing? Sigh. I have zero willpower.
You have more will power than I do, Oakland. I was determined I would only “window sniff” ) Galop, and then caved completely! No regrets, but goodness me! what a lot of pennies! “Window sniff” is a wonderful expression, by the way.
Lovely gift from your husband! So special.
Mm, Chamade extrait! Great stuff. But so is Kiki. 🙂 I think you need to go for research purposes.
Due to a sinus infection, i am perfume free today. Except for a little bit of JM body butter in strawberries and cream.
Hope the sinus infection clears soon!
Happy Monday Everyone! I hope everyone had a great Christmas (for those who celebrate).
I thought that I was going to the bank today since today was Monday, but when I got there, they were closed! Argh! So frustrating! Will have to make another trip there tomorrow.
My SOTD is Knot by Botegga Veneta. Just a beautiful fragrance! I don’t wear this one enough.
Hooray for Boxing Day footy and watching it in one’s Christmas PJs!
SOTD is MFK Petit Matin. Just one spritz from my new sample, to cut through today’s slight case of the blahs caused by a combination of congestion and a red-meat hangover. I need a cup of tea, stat.
Petit Matin is a great fragrance name.
I’m with ya, sniffling and sneezing and trying to ignore my sugar hangover. The day after is ughhhh-ly, but worth it. 🙂
Finished off the big, three-year-old sample of Oriental Brulant! A Guerlain-loving friend really liked sniffing it, but she remains loyal to Shalimar. Most of my friends are one-perfume people and that of course is perfectly fine.
As I’d wondered how similar Oriental Brulant was to Ambre Narguilé I tried the latter this morning – for the first time I understood the latter’s heavy-punching reputation. The former is definitely more of a floaty perfume.
Wearing SJP Stash. Very cozy and comforting for heading back to work.
You smell good!
I’ve just ordered a gift set of Stash for myself at Ulta’s sale. Let’s see if it makes here before the NY.
Is this close to a record from first sniff to buy? Of course it helps that it is perfumath free 😉
