Happy Hump Day, and happy Monkey Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing good old Box of Eels, in extrait.
Reminder: on 12/16, wear a sandalwood fragrance, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Oh my.
Oh my oh my.
Latest addition (number 31) to the FB L’Artisan collection – Noir Exquis – and I think it’s love. Smokyish, coffee maple syrup wrapped dark vanilla with Duchaufours trademark transparency. Lovers of Bvlgari Black, VC&A Midnight in Paris, Armand Basi Homme, YSL Body Kouros, and fragrances of their ilk should definitely give it a go. Smitten.
Oh my.
Oh my oh my.
So, a question. Does fragrance induced deep and heavy breathing make me a perfert?
No 31!!!! (which happens to be my favorite number 🙂 )…I am ashamed to say I have not one L’Artisan…….
Oh, I really like that one and keep forgetting to wear it. Congrats on your new bottle!
Either a perfert or a fragonerd. 🙂
Or perhaps Noir Exquis is a pervume!
Perfect – you win! 😀
Perhaps you meant pervect?
Noir Exquis is good stuff, need to wear it soon.
I recently tried L’Artisan Bucoliques de Provence, and was surprised. I haven’t seen much talk about it here (maybe I wasn’t paying attention?), but Bucoliques is another nice one!
A pervert who happens to smell nice?
One of my closest friends who is highly versed in essential oils told me that Amyris is in the same family as catnip…so that would explain my addictive and insane reaction to it every time I wear it (which has been every day since Saturday!)…so again on my wrists today “Armpits and Orange Essence” (thank you, hajusuuri, for coming up with that hysterical phrase 🙂 !!) and on my sweater Assam of India for the sandalwood in the base…now I know how I was able to wear Assam for the entire summer…it is just perfect…and equally as great in the cold weather!
Which I think means you are a cat?
yes! that would be my animal of choice but despite my tiny size my good friend who shared this essential oil info with me says I am really a bear because all I want to do is eat and sleep :)…especially in the winter!!!
Although I could eat and nap ALL DAY as a house cat 🙂
LOL, that was the result of tired eyes reading blogs!
I will wish my little monkey a happy monkey day. <3
Cocoa Sandalwood by SSS
Had a fantastic night last night at a benefit, I wore my most beloved sandalwood Samsara, which was fitting since this benefit was for Tibet and Buddhism. Also sported my new lipstick stain by YSL
I see the Neimans is having there gift card event and I will be sitting on my hands and not participating. Repeat that mantra several times today. 😉
LOL! good luck with that 🙂
Which color YSL stain did you get?
#5 Vintage Rouge, very pretty and the more you layer the darker it gets
Thank you, I got a plummy color #407, it is in a slightly different packaging, all black, yours look very nice.
I will check that one out!
Its out of stock at Sephora…must be popular!
In Trayee today. Such a beauty!
Indeed! You smell wonderful.
Warm and comforting (and Chrismassy) SL Mandarin Mandarine today.
Is it OK to ask a perfume-gift-related question here? Any ideas for someone who prefers sheer, slightly tart, slightly green, but mostly clean scents? Her most recent favorite was Jo Malone Elderflower and Gooseberry (discontinued limited edition). Grateful for any suggestions!
Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Herba Fresca? (My “I don’t wear PERFUME,” yoga-enthusiast SIL likes that one. I do, too.)
Issey Miyake A Scent?
what about something for the Hermes garden collection?
Annick Goutal Eau d’Hadrien
I own Limon Verde by Guerlain and find that very clean and refreshing
The first thing I thought of is the newest version of Ivoire. Very clean, green, and very light! Very affordable too!
http://www.fragrancenet.com/perfume/pierre-balmain/ivoire-balmain/eau-de-parfum#233584
Berdoues Grand Cru Cologne Assam of India is a beautiful sheer citrus.
Or one of the Ateliers? Orange Sanguine? Cedrat Enivrant?
I was thinking this too! Trefle Pur is a nice green one.
Oh yes!!!! maybe she could get a sampler pack directly from Atelier…I think when you buy it you can deduct the cost of it from your first purchase of 75 dollars with the code that they give you.
I second the Trefle Pur rec.
Sephora has a nice rollerball set from Atelier, for just $45. Good stuff!!
Such great suggestions! Thank you, all.
Carthusia Mediterraneo might fill that bill. It also has a light tea note, if that tips a scale anywhere.
She might like Jo Malone’s new one: Neroli and Basil. The Hermes colognes might be a safe choice too, as in Neroli Dore, Rhubarbe Ecarlate, etc.
This is probably not very original suggestion, but how about just another Jo Malone? Wood Sage & Sea Salt or Lime Basil & Mandarin are two of my favs. I find them both pretty, clean and easy to wear.
Also second, or third the Ateliers or any of the Hermes Jardin series.
Maison Martin Margiela Untitled and Issey Miyake a scent both come to mind as sheer greens with a little something to keep them interesting, but very wearable.
Untitled was exactly what I thought of.
I love Mandarine Mandarin, you smell great!
Not sure if it fits but I have a big perfume crush on Chanel Cristalle Eau Verte at the moment. I love sheer-tart-green so it was great to read the suggestions that have been offered.
yes yes! cristalle is a good one too!
Wearing Mitzah today. We have had -20 C and 20 cm of snow this week, so I am pulling out the heavy hitters.
Brrr.
Stay warm and cozy! Your fragrance is nice and warm already…..Mmmm! 🙂
Holy cow that’s cold.I remember Southport in January, coming from Africa I thought I was going to freeze to death on that ferry to Gosport town!!
Milk of Flowers for me today
Wearing Chant d’Arômes. I find it completely enchanting, it’s a bit fleeting though, but still, very lovely.
Tea is chinese black tea, forgot to check the name.
That’s such a cute little monkey! Homework for me: try to take a similar picture the next time I visit a zoo, with my brand new camera gear. Scentwise today: OJ Vanille d’iris, the last squeezed-out drops of my sample, but not quite FB worthy?
We’re supposed to get snow sometime today and it’s really brrrr-ish for Oregon. My hand went straight and unerringly to the bottle of Or du Serail this morning, and went I went downstairs the hubby nearly hyperventilated from sniffing me. 🙂
Ooooh!!! Or du Serail looks right up my alley! I love all those notes! Stay warm and cozy today…. 🙂
I am wearing SL Santal blanc layered with CD J’adore touche de parfum and the combination is lovely. I am not looking forward to the cold weekend and I have so many things to do, I haven’t started my christmas shopping yet and also I want to invite friends over before christmas, the good thing is that today is my last day at work, I am on vacation after that till January.
Interesting — not sure I’ve ever layered SB.
Enjoy your long break!
Have a great vacation!
Good morning!
It’s a gray, rainy cold day, so I’m in Atelier’s Mandarine Glaciale to perk myself up! Fresh squeezed citrus on a soft, gingery amber base. #SmellyWin 🙂
I like your #SmellyWin. Atelier has wonderful citrus.
I agree!
and Jada you smell great !
L’Instant de Guerlain Pour Homme. Had to apply sparingly, will be working out at the gym later. 😉
you can go to the gym for me… 🙂
And me!
Cold crisp day here and I am in Atkinsons Amber Empire. It’s a very warm and quiet amber perfect for layering, so I need to decide what’s next.
A little orange something? Then you have Anne Pliska 🙂
I’m wearing Caron Bellodgia today. A foggy and chilly day here, I’m about to make a hot cup of Earl grey tea .
Very beautiful. Bellodgia is just perfect.
You smell lovely!
Santal Carmin today.
SOTD: Perfectly Marvelous from Diana Vreeland
This smells reminds me very much of the Chinese temples with the incense burning. Nothing exceptional but quite nice!
Oh, I will have to try that one then.
Oh, I think it’s gorgeous. I’m not a jasmine kind of gal, ordinarily, but there’s a warmth about Perfectly Marvelous that transforms the jasmine into something hugely wearable, imo.
-At least I hope so. The last time I tried it was yonks ago, but I’ve just bought a 100ml bottle at a 37% discount for a forum split, and I’m ending up with 35ml. In my defence, I got it primarily to send a sample as part of a Christmas present to my cousin, who loves jasmine and lily of the valley, and has finally parted company with her once-beloved Diorissimo.
I’ve just realised that buying a bottle to send a sample is the opposite of a credible defence.
Never mind, you are among friends…
LOL! Seems reasonable to me.
All my blind buys are now referred to as large samples. I think you’re justified 🙂
You are all wonderful:)
Trying to find something with sandalwood among the samples on my desk, I ended up with Liaison de Parfum I Dare You. Smells more like patchouli than sandalwood, but not bad.
Still surprised she switched brand names — LdP does not seem to have taken off.
SotD is Elixir des Merveilles and I am really liking it!
I think the original will always be my favorite, as it is an easy go-to, but this is coming in a close second.
I was lucky enough to get a 15 ml bottle on eBay last week, now I just need a bottle of the Eau Claire to complete the quartet. Does anyone know if Hermes has stopped making that one? I don’t see it on their website or Sephora anymore, just online discounters or eBay.????
Yay for Merveilles! I love the 15 ml bottles from Hermes. If you’re feeling nervous about Eau Claire disappearing you could check with Hermes. I contacted Hermes via email last year because a favorite scent (Vanille Galante) disappeared from their website. They kindly replied that it was still in production but was removed from the website for a short time because there were no bottles available for sale online. The boutiques still had it in stock.
They always do that — if it’s not in stock, it’s not on the site.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Yes, I love those 15 ml bottles! There is something about their symmetry and pretty gold and silver caps that I find very appealing. I could easily see lining the entire length of my dresser with them???? Next on to the Jardin line. Or the Hermessence. Decisions, decisions.
Gotta post and run but have to say that monkey is ADORABLE!!
Grand Soir for a not so grand day at work ????
The monkey of the day is adorably cute. I’m not one to judge though because I was the kid who had to be dragged away from the monkeys at the zoo. I wanted to take them all home with me. Mom always said “no, dear.”
Hope you had a relatively decent day…
Testing Violaceum 2 from the new L’Artisan collection. So far very promising. Pronounced violet/iris but not too sweet. A bit of leather, a bit of spice. A hint of something herbal-medicinal a few moments ago (mint?) but it seems to be softening now. Could be a nice addition to my growing arsenal of violet scents. Fingers crossed ‘cuz I loved to see that bottle on my dresser!
Has anyone tried any of the others from the Natura Fabularis line?
I haven’t, but the fact they now offer samples and you just pay the postage cost, which they’ll redeem against a full purchase makes it very tempting. Maybe in the new year…
SotD = Geisha Vanilla Hinoki + lavender EO, very relaxing. The cute monkey of the day made me smile and reminded me of the macaques that soak in the hot springs at Jigokudani. GVH will soothe me while I dream of a visit to Japan.
Hope someone wears Zoologist Macaque today. 😉
That does sound relaxing. I could wear GVH everyday and my little rollerball is dwindling already.
Did you ever see the Japanese snow monkey documentary? So beautiful.
Excellent! I will look for the snow monkey documentary. I recently watched one about ryokan and hot springs in Japan that had a few minutes of the monkeys too.
Was that the one on PBS’ Nature series? It was excellent.
Yes, narrated by Liam Neeson. Monkeys and Liam: what more could one ask for? ????
Bond No 9 New Haarlem. It smells like a lazy weekend morning.
Mmmm, that’s a good description of it.
What an incredibly adorable monkey to brighten up the day a bit!
I haven’t been around much lately–I’ve been slowly losing my enchantment with work and a lot of things I normally enjoy have fallen by the wayside a bit. I treated myself to a shopping trip last night, though, and picked up a bottle of MAC Velvet Teddy, so that’s my scent of the day. It’s definitely big on honey, and while it’s right on the edge of being too sweet, it never quite crosses that line for me.
I tried this one, Creme de Nude, and My Heroine yesterday. Creme de Nude was too sweet for me, and My Heroine vacillated between something I really liked, and something I didn’t like at all (I think I might not have liked the particular leather accord they used). I smelled the other three on paper and made the executive decision not to try them on skin. 🙂
Thanks so much for the report, I still have not gone to smell them! And congrats on your new bottle.
By Kilian Moonlight in Heaven. If you LOOOOOVE Iris Poudre and Gianfranco Ferre like I do,give this one a try.The mother-of-pearl clutch it comes in is an added superbonus.Loving this brand.X
P.S I think it is hilarious that no-one even blinks an eye when we talk about Box of Eels here on NST…everyone knows what it is!Lol!X
i know..I wrote it yesterday as my SOTD and didn’t need a translation
Well, gah, I sure didn’t need another BK on the Want List! I am consoling myself with the fact that I liked but didn’t love the Ferre, so maybe I can do without this one too…
Oh dear….Lol.Bad news Mals:I’d be REALLY surprised if you do not LOOOOOOVE this one!!
Wearing Epic today while having a chuckle. My 7 year old nephew tried to pull a fast one on me. He asked for the Halo video game for Christmas this year. My sister’s jaw dropped to the floor when he asked. I’m thinking that someone in his class might be playing it and he wants it. Who let’s a 7 year old play a violent video game?
oh my!
I definitely would have fell for it. I don’t have kids, so I have no idea about that game. But, since I work at a school, I would have asked one of the kids. That’s the bonus of working with kids….they try to keep me in the know.
One of my wardrobe classics today – Prada Amber Pour Homme Intense
Continuing my sandalwood week with Etro Sandalo.
I got this decant in an NST swapmeet a while ago, and it’s a nice one. Also a rollerball, which I’m not usually into, but I bet this one is better dabbed than sprayed, it’s quite strong.
Ah, nearly forgot about that one and have not smelled in ages. Glad it is still around.
I don’t know if it is (in this form, anyway). I got it in a swap a while ago, and the person I swapped with had the decant for a while, too…
Gotcha.
You smell fabulous! I got my bottle just last year. Still terrific.
Ooh I was just thinking of you and the C&E sandalwood you introduced me to, which is now escalated in price!
You are sandalwood nose who knows…
Ha! Foxbins has that FB of C&E Sandalwood now 🙂
It’s a goody,that one!Etro is seriously underrated!I love the Heliotrope.
I have a doctors appointment today, and their office is “scent free,” i.e. patients are told to refrain from wearing “scented products” to appointments. I am not their ideal customer. Since all of my laundry and household cleaning products are scent free, and since my doctor always smells like vanilla and musk, I believe I’m entitled to two discreet sprays of Lyric.
He-he! Lyric can’t be discreet by definition 🙂
A scent-free doctors office? That’s just blasphemy….lol!
When I encounter places like that, I will spray on my undergarments and light spritzes on my clothes. Especially when I was having surgery, they said no fragrance on the skin…….but they never said no fragrance on your clothes! Where there’s a will, there’s a way!
Of course you are.3 Spritzes even.I’m thankful to work in a perfume-friendly hospital,I’ve met many many perfumistas who were our patients!!One was a Bvlgari addict, even.
Also on Box o’ Eels 🙂
I have a tiny 1/4oz bottle of vintage extrait in a glass stopper bottle that I am using sparingly. The top notes are a little burnt but the rest of the development is gorgeous. I wonder how long I have until the juice takes a turn for the worse, or just evaporate. Maybe that I should try to use it up sooner rather than later?
it probably will evaporate over time so I vote to enjoy it now 🙂
It is a shame that perfumes don’t last forever. Enjoy now I must 🙂
Hey twin!
I wrap Glad Press n Seal around the stopper & neck before putting it back in the box. No idea if it’s really helping though.
I love press and seal for this purpose! I use it when I’m sending bottles or putting them away for long periods of time.
Ahh yes for shipping as well.. Thank you for sharing an excellent idea 😀
Great idea! I will do the same. Press-n-seal & ziplock will hopefully slow down evaporation. It is verrry dry in winter where I live.
I am trying Nirvana Bourbon by the Olsen sims…I mean twins. 😉
Quite nice actually…vanilla, wood and a bit sweet.
This was my SOTD, too! I couldn’t really smell it when I first tried it a few weeks ago, but I decided to apply more boldly this morning, and that seems to have done the trick. I agree, it is nice.
(And I just had to snort over that “sims” crack! ;D)
Woke up with a terrible headache at 3 a.m. On the brighter side I just got a package from fragrancenet and sprayed left wrist with Hermes L’Ambre des Merveilles. Just one small spritz of perfume is all I can handle now. Off to drink more coffee…
I hope you feel better. I am waiting patiently for my order from STC to come in. They had some good sells within the last few days. So did Fragrancenet. Trying so hard to be good and not break the bank.
Thank you, I do feel better and added 2 more spritzez of perfume:) I hear you on STC, you have to be veeeery PATIENT and wait for many days for your decants to show up at your door. Last time I waited for 2 weeks and my decants got lost in the mail.
What did you get from them? I browsed through the list, but convinced myself that I have enough samples to test. Fragrancenet on the other hand… they got a little bit of money from me:)
I hope you feel better soon!
Thank you, sistine, I am better and looking forward to get some sleep tonight.
Oh no, hope the headache clears! You do smell good.
Thank you Robin! I feel much better now.
Wearing Dark Amber & Ginger Lily today by Jo Malone. I have searched my whole collection of scents and have not one that I know of that has sandlewood. Because of this, I don’t know if I’m a fan of this note or not.
This is my favorite Jo Malone by far! Even if you don’t end up loving it, I think you smell fabulous!!
Oh, no! I love Dark Amber and Ginger Lily. I meant the note sandlewood! I am not sure if I like that note because I don’t really own anything with it. I have literally drained my FB of this. Its one of my favorite JM scents.
Hahaha…and I was wondering how I missed the sandalwood note in Dark Amber and Ginger Lily!! Whew…I’m with you now! 🙂
Lol!
G’morning, all. Second to last day of the academic year.! Today one of my favourite (am I allowed favourites?) doctoral students takes her viva. She is exceedingly anxious, not just nervous, and even though the examiners’ written reports are excellent, I am beside myself with nerves for her, because if she dries up, she might walk out with a worse result than she started with. I am therefore wearing the gorgeous, warm, reassuring Bois des Iles, and I’m trying to arrange my features into a calm and encouraging expression. Sometimes I wish I had inherited my mother’s disposition, not my dear old dad’s. This is one of those times!
I had a random thought about sandalwood this week. For me, it’s always had a strong association with the smell of fresh laundry straight after it comes off the line smelling of the sun and clean air. I know that objectively, that’s a silly thought, but a couple of days ago, I suddenly realised that mum used to keep the sheets and my “best” clothes in a wooden chest, and now I’m thinking the chest must have been made of sandalwood. I will have to chase this notion down with my sisters. They’re older than I am, and they might have registered the facts of the case. I hope I’m right.
Two more days! I can do anything for two days.
What a nice association!
And yes, you can do anything for two days.
Craving vetiver so much more than sandalwood, so wearing Sycamore today. Gorgeous stuff!
Dear Sandalwood,
I owe you an apology. After a terrible experience with Santal 33 (how could it turn to pickles on my skin? PICKLES!), I thought that I did not like you. I thought you were not for me. I couldn’t understand other people’s love for you. I grumbled when I read this Friday’s project because I only had one perfume that could fit.
And then, last night, I decided to search luckyscent to see what perfumes contained a sandalwood note in order to try to participate further. I was shocked that I own 28 samples (just from brands carried by luckyscent) and one full bottle with a sandalwood note. Of those 28 samples, 4 are on my full-bottle wishlist.
So sandalwood, I have come to realize that you are the supporting element in many perfumes I love. These scents would not be so beautiful without your contribution – you’re like the bass player in an excellent band. I could still listen to the song, but I wouldn’t find it as exciting. Like Rancid without Matt Freeman or the Red Hot Chili Peppers without Flea, the perfumes you are in would be bland and unremarkable if you were absent.
So thank you for being a beautiful part of today’s scent, Marfa by Memo. I adore this stuff – it’s a slightly austere white flower scent with an introspective edge. (I’m not giving Santal 33 another chance, however. No way.)
Sincerely,
Sistine
You know, I’m a huge sandalwood fan and I don’t much care for Santal 33. Plus, it doesn’t smell all that much like sandalwood. So don’t assume you only like it as a supporting player!
(On the other hard, really good sandalwood is now so hard to find that maybe you’re better off seeing it that way.)
I prefer sandalwood as a supporting note too, rather than the main focus.
I like sandalwood, but I’m with Robin on Santal 33 not smelling like sandalwood. Smells like dry cedar with a pinch of dill and coconut to me. And most times when sandalwood is listed as a base note, I don’t smell it there, either. I usually smell some other generic wood of sorts, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It just isn’t a sandalwood smell. My best reference to what it actually smells like is my little bottle of sandalwood EO.
sandalwood e.o. is the best sandalwood around…but if you like that I am also going to suggest that you try amyris essential oil..it is just as beautiful and highly affordable….
Oh and did I mention that I am seriously addicted to it 🙂 ????
First I’m hearing about it ???? I am curious about it, though. Will look it up.
Portrait of a Lady- so amazingly gorgeous and the incense is divine. After the initial blast of rose this turns the corner of what I thought would be similar to spicy rosy Marni. This is much darker. POAL is hardly worthy of a day in my middle school nurse’s office and I’m glad I applied lightly. As my middle school students would say, Oh Ehm Gee!!! :-)
Oh!I of course think you smell fantastic.I would wear PoaL everyday if I could.
Snow on the way here and I am bundled up like Nanook of the North. The dog (a Northern breed) is outside, nose into the wind, looking happy that it’s 34F and gusting 30mph winds. Oddly enough I didn’t want to wear something cuddly today, I wanted Songes. One of my first loves after falling down the rabbit hole.
Yes to Songes in winter. 🙂 I also like a bit of Terracotta in cold weather.
Wearing Jacomo Parfum Rare Coeur de Parfum again and rereading Christos’s review on Memory of Scent. Here, he explains how the perfume captured his scent memory of Geneva during the Escalade, a holiday reenactment that celebrates defeating the attacking army of Duke Charles Emmanuel of Savoy in 1602.
“Nothing I can actually transmit with my words can show how different the city is during these celebrations. Geneva, not one of the liveliest cities in the world, is flooded with excited people of all ages. Next to tourists and real Genevois dressed in their plain clothes, suddenly a colourful group of participants of the Cortège (the Procession) surprise you dressed in their costumes and carrying real muskets. And the muskets are actually fired! The smell of gun-powder fills the air and meets the smell of roasting chestnuts and warm spiced wine. The chilled December night air is thick with human smells, warm and intense. The narrow streets of the old city are crammed with people and animals that prepare for the parade. And right there I experienced for the first time the indolic side of horse manure. Not what you would imagine as a vile, dirty smell, but rather the floral, light mesmerizing smell of indoles as they are found in perfume. The cold air, the smell of gunpowder, open fire and spiced wine combined magically with the naturally occurring indoles of the animalic presence in the festivities to recreate the warm scent of Coeur de Parfum almost to the last detail. I always associate the bright, resinous patchouli of Coeur de Parfum (and Coco) with cold weather. It feels exactly like sitting in front of a bonfire in a cold winter night. Half frozen, half red-hot. I could suddenly pick up notes of hay and honey mixing with the flowers and animalic leather.”
https://memoryofscent.com/2014/04/27/smells-of-geneva-jacomo-coeur-de-parfum-and-the-smell-of-the-escalade/
Yes, I bought the perfume unsniffed as a result of this review and it’s one of my best.
What a great review!
Good morning everyone and I hope all is well for you all. I’ve been a bit disorganised in the mornings of late and have days of NST to catch up on.
Plum for me today, I think.
I wanted warm and cozy today, so SOTD is Atelier des Ors Lune Feline. I smell delish.
Back to Black for me today. Haven’t worn it in a long time and I’m enjoying the honeyed tobacco.
I totally forgot about that one, you smell great. I should have a decant somewhere.
Yummy.
B2B is the only Killian that I really enjoy wearing.
I scored a FB on an online flash clearance on Gilt last year for $45.00 CAD, so I can bathe in it if I want and not feel guilty !!!!!
Great score! It is on my to test list- hopefully will visit Saks next year.
Monkey Day? How wonderful! I love monkeys!! I can’t help it; I admit to a bit of primate chauvinism. ????
In Habit Rouge today. I wore Shalimar yesterday, so I figured I’d continue with her sibling.
Completely forgot about perfume today. This is becoming a theme. But an end is in sight. Today was pretty much my last day at work, just the xmas do tomorrow.
Wearing Chanel no 5 L’eau. Bought a full bottle of it today (went for shopping therapy). It is bliss in a bottle and just what I needed now.
I’m wearing EL Sensuous Noir today. Not quite sure yet what I’m going to do for Friday. I think I have a sandalwood or two, but I’m realizing I don’t have much in my collection. I think an issue for me is that while I can smell natural sandalwood, I’m anosmic or nearly so to some synthetic sandalwood molecules, so some sandalwood perfumes aren’t much of anything to me, like Atelier Cologne’s Santal Carmin or Nirvana Black, but then others like the SL Santals I can smell just fine. Which reminds me, I need to find my Santal Mysore decant.
EL’s Sensuous Noir is such a nice fragrance! Great choice!
Sensuous reminded me of Nilla wafers, but Sensuous Noir is so good. 😀 You smell great!
SOTD has been Penhaligon’s “Halfeti”. On the one hand, this is a darn sight better smelling than almost anything I’ve tried from Penhaligon’s before. In fact, let me not be mealy-mouthed: it smells really nice, and on my skin not ‘just another’ rose-saffron-oud blend as it seems lighter and spicier. On the downside, it only managed half a day, boo!
Top: bergamot, grapefruit, saffron, cardamom, atermisia and cypress;
Mid: jasmine, Bulgarian rose and nutmeg;
Base: leather, oud, cedar, sandalwood, amber, musk, tonka and vanilla.
Seven more days. :^)
I just received a sample of TF Santal Blush today, so that’s what I’m wearing. The first 15 minutes or so were unpleasantly strong, but now it has softened to a soft sandalwood with perhaps a touch of cumin in the background (but not too much, at least for me anyhow). 🙂
I like that one a lot and own a bottle. I have to dig it out of the cupboard and wear it on Friday! Thanks for the reminder.
Duh! I have this scent and just realized it has sandlewood (hence the name). What was I thinking or not thinking? This is one of my favorites! I will save it for Friday.
Farouche, you smell fantastic!
It’s a bit late in the day but this afternoon’s mail brought my gift set from Luckyscent along with generous samples of ORLOV parfum and wow is that stuff fantastic! I had sniffed it in Harrod’s in June and kept the scent strip on hand for a few weeks just to remember the beauty. It is really a shame that it’s just so darned expensive. I’m not at all a white flower person but the orange blossom in this is very delicate and at the same time heady–but not cloying. I love it!
My SOTD was vintage Samsara for the first time this season. OMG, this is goooood stuff.
SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP
I needed spine strengthening and it worked. I need it tomorrow as well but I may layer with 31RC. Box of Eels EDT had been waiting to get invited to the party (be patient my lovely one, you will get your turn).
ack! i hope today is a better day 🙂
Dior Sauvage for me today. I can’t decide if I like it or not, but I’ll keep wearing it until I figure it out. I just got a deluxe sample set of Bvlgari EdPs and I can’t wait to try them!
