It's Almost-Friday! Plus, Brownie Day (no complaints there). What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm continuing my week of 2016 purchases with Tauer Perfumes / Tauerville Rose Flash.
Reminder: 12/9 will be Best Buy Friday — wear your favorite fragrance purchase of 2016. If you didn't buy anything this year, pick a favorite from a prior year.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Eau Noire (Dior). Guess I’m on an immortelle kick… 🙂
Enjoy it!
You smell fantastic!
brownies..yum!
Happy 3 to my master teacher who stretches my heart a bit fuller with every breath she takes. I’m so grateful to know you.
Today is my little Monkey’s second birthday. She stretches my heart a bit fuller with every breath she takes.
Yesterday during my ‘vacation” I went to the dentist, got my hair cut, and looked at the beautiful windows at BG. Went to see Disney’s Moana. I stopped into Bergdorfs and got my self a YSL glossy stain. And did some sniffing. I tried on Myths by Amouage, and Shanghai Lily. Both beautiful. I also sniffed Neroli Outrenoir, there was nothing noir about it. And did a small dab of RP L’Insomnuit
Tea is homemade Chai. SOTD one of my best purchases for 2016 Alahiiiiiine in the Solid compact.
I meant happy 2, she is 2
Happy Birthday to your little Monkey! Enjoy!
Happy Birthday Little Monkey!!! Have an epicly AWESOME day!!! 🙂
Soubds like a great day! Happy birthday little monkey????
Yay for turning 2! This year will be full of fun.
Happy birthday little monkey, and I’m glad for your mini vacation!
I am glad for my mini vacation..Today is the last day!!!
That sounds like a wonderful day off! And happy B day to your precious monkey!
Happy Birthday, Little Monkey! And so glad you had a good time yesterday, and got the lip stain.
Wishing your little monkey the happiest of birthdays!
Happy birthday to the little monkey! And happy mini-vacation to you! It sounds like you had a wonderful day yesterday.
Happy, happy birthday Little Monkey!
Happy Birthday to the little Monkey. What a nice mini vacation.
Happy birthday to your little monkey and enjoy the last little bit of your mini-vacation!
Happy Birthday to your little one!
SOTD is another of my 2016 purchases, the now discontinued Tubéreuse by Goutal. Lovely and slightly fierce, on a cold an windy Dutch day.
Tea is Paris s’éveille by Betjeman and Barton.
Sounds very pretty. I never got a chance to smell that one, but all the AG soliflores I have tried have been lovely.
It’s very similar to Gardénia Passion, but Tubéreuse is just a tad softer. I really enjoy it, and I happened upon a not so expensive bottle on ebay.
SotD: SL Boxeuses, which is one of my best non-purchases of 2016. I still like it very much, but I have only dented my decant.
OI am drinking some South Co-op Ceylon from Upton.
Another good category — best non-purchases!
YUMMM. Boxeuses is absolutely delicious and I’d almost forgotten how sexy. I have been skirting around my SL collection, waiting for this weather, and your mention made me plunge back in. Thank you, monkeytoe. Now I can begin to immerse myself in those SL winter scents I’ve been skirting while holding onto summer: Fumerie Turque, 5:00 Au Gingembre, Ambre Sultan, Un Bois Vanille Fille de Aiguilles, Cuir Mauresque, Chergui, Santal Majuscule, Sarrasins, Vetiver Oriental…
Wow, u have quite a Lutens collection, how wonderful!
I have never tried Sarrasins during winter, you gave me an idea.
Scentless so far – I slept badly, and although it’s just super-windy at this point the weather forecast today is for snow followed by freezing rain, so I’m working from home (in jammies!) today. (Autocorrect made that “jimmies”, and now I’m picturing myself coated in them.) Will choose a soothing scent in a bit – Philosykos or Barbara Bui, most likely.
Yay for jammies! Stay cozy.
I am SO GRATEFUL that schools decided to close last night! As a result, I, too, am in jammies–although I’m realizing I could use a few new pairs (they’re not as cute as they used to be)! Not gonna go in search of them today, though!
Marjorie Rose, were you guys snowed out?
We don’t get snow here, but it floods. It is almost impossible to get our district to close when we are flooded out. Glad your district put safety first instead of attendance. Stay warm and dry.
Not yet. The snow is predicted to arrive any moment now. The big risk in Oregon is that if it gets icy, there’s no equipment to thoroughly prep or clear the roads. And we are expecting the snow to become freezing rain at some point in the afternoon. SO, they wisely decided to not start school just to have to leave early (which is always a total stressor for everyone involved)!
Yes, that’s smart. I have been stuck at my school several times because they decided to keep school in and then to get stuck there. A huge mess! Stay warm and I hope you guys don’t have to make it up. Hopefully you all have inclement weather days built in!
Eww. Freezing rain is never fun. Stay warm.
The image of a person covered in jimmies is oddly disturbing to me. I wonder why?
and oddly intriguing to me 🙂
Eww for sure. The snow has arrived and the wind hasn’t let up yet so it’s snowing sideways now. It’s pretty, but I know what comes next (that half-inch coating of ice from freezing rain on top of a half-inch of snow) and am hoping the forecast is correct that temps will go up to near 40 overnight and melt all that lovely, sparkly stuff. I’m dreaming of a DRY Christmas! 🙂
Chocolatemarzipan, you crack me up … but you might need help. 😉
Guerlain Metallica from a decant in my purse since I forgot to apply perfume before leaving the house
Metallica is so nice! Floral, but warm enough for December in the northern hemisphere.
I remembered scent today and put on Coco EDP, which is what I meant to wear yesterday.
Tonight the husband and I are seeing the Miyazaki film Spirited Away at a nearby cinema. It’s one of our favorites and it’ll be so nice to see it on the big screen. 🙂
I am envious. The only Miyazaki I have seen in theaters was Ponyo. Spirited and Howl’s Moving Castle are among my favorite movies.
Thank you for listing Howl’s Moving Castle, because I did not remember the name Miyazaki. Loved HMC & My Neighbor Totoro, but have never seen any others.
Spirited Away is a masterpiece! I am jealous that you can watch it for the first time. The protagonist is a little girl, but my 13 and 15 year old boys could watch it over and over again.
Spirited Away is easy to watch over and over regardless of anyone’s age 🙂
I love Howl’s. It was my first one and I saw it in a theater. I also really love Whisper of the Heart, which is much older.
Howl’s was my first and it’s still my favorite. Spirited is my husband’s fave. We saw Totoro at a cinema in NY for an anniversary event.
I love Spirited Away! It’s one of my very favorite movies ever. I wish I could see it in a theater.
See if it’s playing near you! It’s in theaters right now for an anniversary event and because it’s one of the more popular ones they’ve extended dates and times for it. It’s playing at both AMC and Regal theaters.
I love Miyazaki’s films. My Neighbor Totoro is my ultimate comfort movie!
Fashiony by Smell Bent came out in 2015 as a limited edition. I bought one of the travel sizes to try and fell in love. Before I could order a full bottle it was gone. Then last June Smell Bent had their garage sale and Fashiony was available again. Unfortunately the full bottles disappeared fast, so I could only get more travel sizes. Still, this is probably my second favorite buy of 2016.
Glad you were able to get more, even if only small ones.
I wish I had known it was Brownie Day this morning I would have put on something chocolate. I’m wearing Amouage Lyric. It is so nice this time of year.
You smell great in Lyric.
Agreed on Lyric!
I’ve worn Lyric A TON this fall/winter! You smell luscious!
SOTD is Arquiste/J. Crew No. 31. Haven’t worn this is quite a while. It’s doing its job being cozy and sweet.
STILL hoping they’ll do more! But at this point suspect not.
Ack! That photo has me salivating like Pavlov’s dog!!
Gorgeous brisk day here! I heard rumors of a polar vortex brewing, which I’m sure most normal folks are dreading. Being an oddball, this forecast has me jumping up and down with joy!
I’m luxuriating in my standard cold weather gear of flannel button down, baggy jeans, and Birkenstock sandals. SOTD is a couple of drops of Amber Flush in my hair and a double blast whammy of SL Chergui.
I have a lot of miscellaneous things to do today, which bores me to tears. Not really understanding why I can’t make a living day dreaming. T-Rex has discovered she can make a living by being very cute, occasionally obedient, and regularly patrolling the perimeter for anoles, cats, and potential trespassers. She will often take a break from this gruelling schedule to drop her Kong toy in my lap and furiously wag her tail. What a life!!
In my next life, I’m definitely coming back as a spoiled house cat!! My 2 cats spend their days playing, laying in the sun, and then napping for hours at a time. And when it’s meal time, they let me (the servant) know, and every need is immediately met! 🙂
Yes, cats are the MASTERS of indolence! I truely admire their ability to be completely disinterested in just about everything. That is a REAL skill ????
I think my cat, Opie, is actually a dog in disguise. He brings me his duck (complete with elastic string and stick attached) every night. He looks so proud, too!
Opie=adorable! I can see “retriever cats” becoming all the rage ????
You and I really need to swap locations. As much as you hate the heat, I hate the cold. It could be like Freaky Friday! (Original version, lol)
I’d totally be up for that! This is the best time of year here and I thoroughly enjoy being able to wear really deep orientals without risking asphyxiating myself and those within a 10′ range. I’m hoping to do some extensive traveling next year, with goal being trying to avoid temperature extremes by following the best weather around the country. I’ll do my best to redirect any hot weather your way this winter!
I’m wearing Seville l’Aube, which I think was my first purchase of 2016, and still one of my best. I’m listening to the music teacher teach the ukulele to a class of grade 7’s and thanking my stars that I’m not a music teacher.
Oh my goodness! This made me laugh and cringe at the same time ????
😀 😀
Cute! I play uke and those 7 year olds probably put me to shame.
Grade 7″s are more or less 11 or 12 year olds, and you would have to be pretty bad to have them put you to shame, trust me.
I suspect my husband might be having your experience????.
Heehee, this made me laugh.! Twins in Seville A L’aube, also my first purchase of the year, I really enjoy it in cold weather, warm not so much.
I’m not wearing anything yet, but brownie day is tempting me food-wise. I had already promised to bake something.
It’s freakin’ windy out there and I still have to bring my potted plants in. I really miss my old house with that huge back room with windows that I could close off from the cats. Here I will have to haul all 100+ of them inside and through the house to the garage, then back out on Saturday. It’s supposed to freeze again early next week, so I will be complaining again then.
PSA for anybody who hasn’t taken advantage of the Stash value set of an oil and an edp from Ulta. It’s on sale today for $38.50!
So cold and windy today- I feel your pain!
Good Heavens! We were separated at birth! I hauled all my tropical plants in including my 12 foot tall Norfolk Island Pine! We put 100 plus bonsai on the ground tonight because we are anticipating our first dip into the 20s with wind.
That Stash deal is so, so tempting… I’ve tried the edp on skin a couple of times, and it seems disappointingly one-dimensional on me in comparison to what I sniffed on a strip. Still, I bet it’d be great for layering…
Wearing CdG Avignon layered with Tauer Une Rose Vermeille. They are making each other much softer and Un Rose is less sweet. I never thought this combination was going to be so good, pleasant and comforting.
Hmmm. I don’t have any Avignon, but I do have some other incense samples as well as one of Andy’s big 2.5ml spray samples of URV. Intrigued.
That is a power combination! You smell great. Will try it later.
That is why I had a spritz of each one. More than that will be overwhelming.
Nice combo!
Great idea for layering! I’m going to try that later too 🙂
That sounds like a gorgeous layering combination.
SOTD is another favorite 2016 purchase – Tauer Perfumes Au Coeur Du Desert. Perfect for this cold and dreary day.
You smell great!
That brownie looks sooo good! Even though I am allergic to chocolate, I’ve been known to indulge in a brownie or two. 🙂
My SOTD Roses Elixir by Montale. I adore this scent. This fragrance is described as a “dark, sparkling rose”.
I was planning on buying this scent before the year is over because its on sale. So, I’m going to consider it as one of my best buys in 2016.
Love Roses Elixir! You smell great.
I was allergic to chocolate too but I ended up desensitizing myself by eating them in small doses frequently!
I’m wearing Demeter Dark Chocolate with a light dab of Demeter Tootsie Roll over it for Brownie Day. I don’t allow myself to eat chocolate until after 12 pm ( or the day would be all chocolate), so I’ll make some real brownies this afternoon.
Yummy 🙂
Perfect all around!
I was traveling over the past few weeks and haven’t been able to post! Took advantage of the dollar / euro rates in Paris and got some early Xmas (or very, very late birthday? I will use any excuse!). perfume gifts for myself. SOTD is Chanel No. 19 Poudre, which I somehow had never smelled before! Also brought home full bottles of Mugler Chyrprissime and Le Galion Snob. The Mugler bottle comes in the most gorgeous box! Also got a sample of Isabey Lys Noir at Jovoy. Based on the notes, I should hate it but it’s a beautiful lily.
Enjoy those wonderful additions to your collection.
You really got some wonderful scents. Enjoy!
I might be one of the very few dessert-loving people on earth not tempted by brownies. They’re okaaaay, I guesss, but if you give me the choice between brownies and any other chocolate baked good, I’d skip the brownies. Shrug. I dunno. Maybe it’s a texture thing?
In planning for tomorrow, I had to go back and look through the damage polls to remember what I bought in 2016 – only three full bottles (one a backup of beloved Safari!) plus a handful of minis/decants. Today I’m in Black Cashmere again.
I love all the brownies, but my kids were never fans until one day I absentmindedly added an extra egg to the batter. It baked up less fudgy, about half-way between a brownie and chocolate cake. Yummy.
The only brownies I like are the “Baker’s Chocolate One Bowl” brownies (recipe found in the box). They are super ooey-gooey and a dense hit of chocolate flavor. The usual made-from-a-mix varieties are sub-par and not worth the calories, IMO.
Should probably comment that I have eaten some brownies that other people RAVED about, that just left me thinking, “Ehh, I’d rather have had a vanilla cupcake.” I don’t think it’s only experience with subpar brownies that has shaped my opinion, in other words.
I see your brownies and raise you cupcakes 🙂 – I do not like either of those. And I can throw in donuts as well. And after all that I still insist that I’m a dessert person: I love cakes, chocolate and ice cream.
Brownies always put me in mind of cake that has been left out in the sun or on the bench for a couple of days with that dry, crusty first bite then soft insides. Don’t like them.
I prefer a light textured chocolate cake to a brownie. Or better yet, a small glass of chocolate mousse.
Or a chocolate beer 🙂
Well, I bought this bottle in November 2015, so I am almost playing. In Pichola. Cardamom, saffron, and white flowers.
So beautiful!
You smell amazing. I realized after reading your post that Pichola is my Best Buy choice, so I’ll wear it tomorrow.
SOTD Taklamakan. Probably my favorite vanilla.
Frederic Malle now has hand soaps and a coffret is looking like a nice Christmas gift. $45 for 3 which doesn’t seem to steep to me.
FM soaps? Help!!!
I know! It’s only slightly less tempting since they don’t have my favorite flavors.
oh boy…
Oooh, I have to place an order!
And unless they’ve changed, they’re the best soaps ever.
I’m wearing Hermès Ecarlate Rhubarb.
We’re heading home from vacation today. I had a great time, but I’m ready to get back home.
You smell great. The red bottle and one of the other Hermes fragrances in a green bottle would make a nice Christmas present.
Good morning and Happy Brownie Day! I will definitely have to find a brownie later to celebrate such a nice occasion!!! 🙂
SOTD: Fat Electrician. Another favorite buy of 2016, via Scentbird. This scent normally wears pretty close to the skin on me, but the pharmacy is 75 degrees (and rising), so my one spray is projecting pretty loudly. The perfume grinch is not acting amused….but maybe he’s just hot! 🙂
You really enjoy that Fat Electrician! Tell the office Grinch to get Happy- ”Tis the Season!????
He hates all things Christmas too…..but that’s another post for another blog? hee hee
If you tell him the name of the perfume he will probably relax.
Ha ha! I love that name “Fat Electrician”!
I tried Fat Electrician this year too. I like it, but I think the drydown smells like bubble gum. I made a friend smell my arm once, and he insisted that it smelled “classy” and not like gum at all, so maybe my nose is crazy.
In the name of brownies and all things yummy, I’m sampling Atelier Vanille Insensee that I got from Sephora. Took 4-5 sprays to feel the effect, but I’m enjoying it.
Vanille Insensee has a waftiness that I love. I’ll wear it later today.
Yum, brownie day! I am having LU Petit Ecolier dark chocolate biscuits for breakfast but now i want brownies too. I am a chocolate fiend 😀
SOTD is Guerlain Apres l’Ondee. Another 2016 fave.
You smell great! As a fellow fiend I will look for the LU dark chocolate biscuits.
Thank you! And I love these biscuits. I hope you find and enjoy them 😀
I love those LUs! And you smell beautiful.
LU’s are yummy!
SOTD is Chanel no. 5 L’eau. I cannot actually smell it as I have a virulent head cold, but I smell nice for others I guess.
Looking forward to getting home at the end of day, taking heavy duty cold meds and sleeping for a very long time.
Oh, so sorry you are not feeling well! Sounds awful.
May you rest soon!
Oh no! Please take good care. You will smell nice for others. I noticed L’eau on a woman while shopping last week. It sparkles beautifully.
I hope you feel better soon. Pamper yourself, and get super cozy.
Feel better soon!
Wishing you better!
Sounds rotten, hope u feel better soon. I’m hoping to test L’eau for first time on Sunday, I can’t wait!
You really do smell lovely! Now, get yourself to bed and stay there until that head clears up!
Happy “snow” day!
As mentioned above by others in the PNW, we are expecting inclement weather any moment now. . . so I am home and not-teaching, which is fine by me!
Yesterday, I wore Ambrosine (Francessca dell’Oro), and recieved THREE compliments that I smelled good! Mostly, folks don’t say anything, so that was nice. I made an exception in my non-buying year (or two) and bought a bottle when it was 25% off at Indiescents last week. No regrets! Although, now I officially have TOO MANY bottles to fit in my little perfume vanity. Some day, something must be done!
Snow days are magic, especially for teachers. 🙂 And yay for your scent compliments. It’s wonderful when people say nice things. I wonder how often people have something nice to say but don’t speak up. I think that might be my resolution for next year: always offer a compliment when one comes to mind. And I’m considering a no-buy year for 2017 because my vanity tray is getting quite full. Eeep!
Compliments are free and so uplifting! Got one the other day at the PO and I’m still feeling good about it. I am with you on giving more compliments and buying less in 2017.
The other day I complemented a woman on her perfume. She seemed happy about it. All she could tell me was she bought it from Cinique, so she could get the gwp. I couldn’t place it, but I figured it was one of the Happy scents.
I compliment strangers all the time – their bag, dress, color of their clothes, hair, their perfume (rarest actually since I didn’t want to be creepy and sniff people intently)…and actually, I’ve been known to call, email or instant message the facilitator of a very well run meeting to compliment him/her and would also sometimes write unsolicited notes to managers. It also goes both ways as I wouldn’t hesitate to suggest how to improve something.
I love compliments. The other day I complimented a patient who came to the clinic, she smelled really great (I rarely compliment), I asked her what she was wearing; she didn’t speak any english or french and had her daughter with her to translate, they have discussed for more then 5 minutes about the perfume in their own language and they told me it was Coco. I suspect it was something else though, it didn’t smell like Coco to me.
SotM = Note Fragrances Blood Orange Chocolate from a favorite decant of 2016, sent to me by the fabulous Azar of the equally fab Australian Perfume Junkies, where she posted about fragrance and Gomez the parrot. As I type, my kids’ parakeets are sitting on my laptop warming their cold little feet.
BOC is nice for brownie day, plus it reminds me to eat an orange with breakfast. Later I’ll add Vanille Insensee.
I loooove chocolate and orange together.
Heh, I just bought several Terry’s chocolate oranges yesterday. For my kids of course. 😉
Well, that’s scent sounds delicious! And the parakeets ADORABLE! I’m imaging them on your labtop with watchcap hats pulled low, earmuffs and a nice fuzzy scarf wrapped around their feathery necks!
Ha! That’s a perfect image. “Rhea the Naked Birdie” over on Instagram shows off her bird-sized sweater collection. Too cute.
https://www.instagram.com/rhea_thenakedbirdie/?hl=en
Parakeets have surprising entertainment value for such small pets. We were lucky to find someone who hand feeds their baby birds so they are friendly and playful pets.
Too cute! That bird is making me rethink my Thanksgiving Cornish Hen Dinner. ????
Love brownies. No cakey ones – just fudgey (fudgy? fudge-y?), chewy.
Wearing Tea for Two today – so c-c-c-cold here. Trying to decide on tomorrow’s fragrance for the community project. I have several contenders.
I love fudgy ones too! Warm and gooey with a scoop of vanilla ice cream! Tea for Two is a great comfort on cold days.
Happy Thursday, all
1) We were promised ice, sleet and snow here in Portland. Instead, so far, we have a lot of extremely cold, freezing wind. Fortunately warming centers were open last night and homeless people did take advantage of this.
2) Since it was supposed to storm, am at home, working. Scent of the day is Lord of Misrule shower cream from last night from working out at the gym(run outside+weights+sauna). Will be brewing coffee soon, and then perhaps making a stew in the slow cooker.
I think I’m secretly a horrible person. My gym/community center often does double-duty as an emergency shelter, and I always feel put out when I have to miss my workout due to folks needing someplace warm or non-flooded to sleep! I know it’s super self-centered, and yet I always regret missing my workout.
Nah, not a horrible person at all, just disappointed! That is the one thing about belonging to a community center- it is FOR the community so if help is needed…but when you look forward to stress relief at the end of the day, ugh!
Thanks for the kind words! I work with a high percent population of “disadvantaged” kids in my school, and I have all sorts of empathy for them. But get between me and my weightlifting. . . 😉
I settled today for some bodyweight stuff so I could feel like I’ve accomplished *something* athletic. No interest in braving the cold and the wind at the mo’.
I was surprised at the homeless situation when I was in Portland in August…so many young people…at least they stay in packs to keep safe.
I have the day off today, and staying home keeping an eye on the snow. Sotd is Nirvana Bourbon, from a sample. This would have been a best buy for me, but I returned my bottle. I returned it because i thought that I didn’t need any more vanilla in my collection. That and I’m dumb:). Bourbon is really good, and I do have plans to repurchase it.
The bottle is pretty too!
Brownie Day? Oops! I just made gingerbread last night so I am set for treats right now. SOTD is Un Bois Vanille.
I took an online survey last night about “luxury” goods–watches costing 5K, handbags more than 3K, that sort of thing. Their criteria for “luxury” perfume was $130 a bottle. I thought that was really low, as $130 strikes me as about the average price I pay. Needless to say, they got quite a bit of information from me about my “luxury” perfume purchases.
I agree $130 is unrealistically low. I would probably double that.
That is funny because I think paying more that $100 for a purse is luxury, but $130 for perfume is nbd … priorities!
Ha! Ditto on that.
With all those exclusive lines for already expensive perfumes, I don’t think even twice the price named would put it into the “luxury” category. It should be at least $350 and up (though, I’d go even higher to compare to those watches and bags).
Started off sampling VCA Moonlight Patchouli this morning, but it’s not really exciting me. Will switch to Coromandel after a bike ride and a shower.
For those of you who can’t wear shimmer eyeshadow, I just saw a review of the new Smashbox eye shadow palettes (the cover shot ones) – they have two that are all or mostly matte, one of which is rainbow colors (it’s called Bold)! The formula got good reviews too.
Today I’m wearing Le Labo Ylang 49. I am not a fan of ylang ylang by itself. However, the names of the Le Labo fragrances don’t necessarily mean that it smells like what it is called … so I put it on blind! I em enjoying it very much but it is described as a chypre, so I guess that’s not a surprise 😉
I love Ylang 49! Smells great in the heat and humidity of summer.
I am wearing another of my best buys for 2016, Safran Troublant. I bought two bottles for $36 each. I will be giving one to my BFF for Christmas. Such a deal!
Amazing deal, Safran Troublant is beautiful!
Wow! Great find. And you smell delish.
I got that same deal! I was on a No Buy, but I couldn’t resist!
Mona di Orio’s Ambre today, fluffy as a cloud and soft as a kitten’s fur. Mona di Orio is one of the best discoveries of this year for me. Ambre is maybe not my top favourite, but I like it very much.
Are you feeling better today?
How nice of you to ask and remember! Yes, I do, I am on megadoses of lyposomal vitamin C, and I think it is working. Still a bit of a temp and swollen glands, but I can smell and work. Thank you again!
Get better soon! It’s a holiday season, so it’s not fun to be sick (as an opposite to a huge fun of being sick at any other time, I know 😉 )
SOTD = Carner Barcelona D600
This is one of my best buys for 2016. Dominant notes to me include iris, vetiver, something nutty (the cardamom per Fragrantica). It is similar to Dior Homme except Dior Homme has a more masculine vibe eventhough I view both as unisex.
D600 is also in the ” no brainer” category. It’s pleasing and wearable anytime.
It’s a no brainer and works well in all sorts of weather.
I think D600 is a wonderful secret that few people know. You smell great!
The brand doesn’t get a lot of attention despite the perfumes being top-notch!
You smell great! Even though my sample is long gone and my decant hasn’t arrived yet 😉 , I remember how pleasant D600 is.
You recall correctly!
First day of school holidays for my son…so no school till February. Hurray. I can say goodbye to washing his drab, depressing, stinky, synthetic school uniform …ugh. Will wear California Chocolate today and then later a bit of Dame Black Flower and see what happens…probably go into a coma.
Do you have a choice to get the uniform from elsewhere that uses better materials? I went to Catholic school and that meant uniforms. My mom insisted on sewing the uniforms herself (she is very talented). There was a lot of hemming (ha! pun not intended) and hawing but the school finally relented.
No. The shirt must be a kind of nylon polo shirt that slowly goes grey and pilled after the first wash, and the jacket must be black and maroon fleece that shows every dog hair and piece of fluff, and the pants have to be grey and shapeless and two inches too short after the first term. Any variation would result in a detention. All high school kids in NZ have to wear a school uniform…And they must be ugly and smell like damp washing left in a basket. The entire education system would fall apart otherwise. Once a term they get mufti day where they are allowed freedom to dress like a functioning human being but this is exceptionally risky and not to be encouraged.
My son is 14, six foot one, and a hundred and ninety pounds. He is required to wear a uniform also. Obviously, we have to buy him men’s sizes, so I buy him as close as I can get to what is required. Luckily, no one has said anything yet.
And your uniform descriptions are spot on!
LOL! I should read this to my kids (my students, that is) so that they feel more grateful to go to public school. 🙂
We all had to wear uniforms (and those were public schools), and I hated those that were sold in stores, so my grandmother sewed it for me and I proudly wore it for my last 2 years in school.
Another chilly day in Vancouver, but wow it has been so wonderful to see sun and blue skies after what seems like months of rain and clouds.
Another Best Buy of 2016, the beguiling Dilettante.
Lucky you, would love a bottle of Dilettante!
Scent of the day is vintage YSL Champagne, another 2016 favourite and another gift (from the wonderful SophieC). It can be a bit of an acquired taste, but once you acquire it, it’s addictive.
You smell beautiful. What a special gift.
It is and I’m very grateful.
So fabulous.
I think I’ll wear it for the New Year’s Eve, too.
I remember when Champagne came out, I so badly wanted to be able to wear it. I should have just bought it and waited to grow into it. You smell divine.
Do you like it now?
Oh yes! I haven’t smelled it in a long time. But I remember it being unlike anything else. I regret not buying it. At that time in my life, I honestly thought that I wasn’t ” classy” enough for Champagne. Sounds silly, but it’s true.
I’m wearing Dzing!, a definite favorite buy for this year. I just love it, and have no desire to explore why.
Stay warm and safe everyone!
Yum! 🙂
I have never gotten Dzing! Perhaps I should revisit?
Hi, all. Friday morning here, and I’m wearing my best buy of 2016, Ambre Narguile. This is not a good buy in terms of price, just the deep, on-going pleasure it gives. How I love smelling like apple crumble! And when I analyse that sentence, how odd it sounds! Not something I could say anywhere but down the rabbit hole.
In other news (not really, I just feel self important and want to make An Announcement), I continue to flirt with Galop, and here’s the thing: he flirts right back. Deep attraction here! But this relationship will be ever unrequited. I can’t have a sample (asked) and I don’t need a bottle. I think we’re doomed, he and I, to occasional encounters full of meaningful “what might have beens”, never the solid, comfortable familiarity that would follow if he moved into a place on my perfume shelves. Oh well.
But wouldn’t Galop be perfect for summer and just think how helpful it would be for your next trip to your mother in law’s house.
Aha! I know for sure she would HATE it….
I requested & have been mailed a sample of Galop from Hermes direct (US).
Agent Provocateur layered over the vintage Guerlain Vetiver I purchased this year. GV is lovely, but doesn’t make my 2016 top 5 purchases…. That’s between me and Donatella????????
Oh, that picture of brownies! Had I not had a good breakfast, I’d be in serious trouble right now.
Today I’m testing Louis Vuitton Turbulences from the sample I recently got. (‘Best Blag Thursday’, then?) I’m still waiting for my allergy medicine to fully clear up my congestion, but I can definitely smell the tuberose (not a buttery Fracas one) and jasmine mixed with leather. Nice!
Kenzo UFO, one of my favourite purchases of this year, though it needs a few spritzes and still wears close. I smell like future metal. With a bit of spice. Curious how it will do in the cold.
Yay for future metal — you smell great.
24 Faubourg for me today, one of my 2015 favourite buys. I’ll progress to 2016 for the evening, and will bathe myself in Myrrhe Imperiale. I’d like to mention again how wondeful it was of my beloved to brave the cosmefics department of David Jones in Sydney to get it for me – it’s not his natural milieu 🙂
It’s Thursday already???? Bah, this has been such a week at work. Two big projects with December 23 deadlines. Blowing kisses to my company’s executives (NOT).
SOTD is EL Sensuous Noir, which has almost disappeared already, boo.
Will have to ponder the Friday project (if I get a second to do so), although the truth is, my favorite purchase is always the next one 🙂
Enjoying all of your musings…..
I could never understand scheduling anything on the end of December or the beginning of January! Our lives are stressful as is; most of us face numerous problems and hardships – can we at least have some joy in the year around winter holidays?!! Who are those managers who do that? Are they human? Do they have families or at least friends?
Anyway, I hope you’ll accomplish everything you have to – and will still find time both for participating in community projects, and enjoying the season.
SOTD is one of my 5, 2016 purchases- Seville a L’Aube, I really love it in the cold, crisp and bright weather we’re having, truly gorgeous.
I wish it was one of my 2016 purchases!
I’m wearing Chanel Cuir de Russie. Mmmm… so good!
It is good! I need to wear it again soon: it’s just the right weather.
And now I want a brownie.
I’m wearing Le Labo Patchouli 24, from a sample. I really like it, but fortunately for my credit card I have some self-restraint.
Mmmmmm. Patchouli 24 and brownies.
Sold some childrens clothing on ebay…shipping came out to as much as I sold them for! plus ebay fees – so I actually paid for somebody to take the clothes :))) huh, lesson for me 🙂 Is there a cheaper shipping option than USPS?
I did not put on any fragrance since my nose is still stuffed.
USPS is the cheapest for light packages. You should set shipping as “Calculated” and enter the exact package weight below it. That way the buyer sees ahead of time how much it is to ship to them and ebay automatically adds that cost to their total. Or if you offer free shipping (which it seems you did), set your price/starting bid high enough to cover shipping, fees, and make a little yourself. Hopefully that will help you make a little money. I’ve paid ebayers to take my stuff before. 😉
Love your username! One of my favorite songs. 🙂
Thanks!
SOTD is “Korrigan” by Lubin.
Top: juniper berries, saffron and cognac;
Mid: lavender, ambrette (musk mallow) and whiskey;
Base: cedar, oud, leather, vetiver and musk.
I wanted to love this, but instead ‘just’ like it. It’s cozy and a bit milky and lasts half a day – i.e. not long enough for me. It sort of reminds me of a watered down “Lignum Vitae” (BeauFort London), which has the same half-day life span but at least throws some more spice into the mix. Money saved!
Hey, baby, it’s cold outside (yes, I’ve been going to numerous holiday concerts this week) – Brrrr! I’m all bundled up getting ready to go out and find that perfect Christmas tree before the snow and even more cold arrives. The enticing scent of The Vagabond Prince Enchanted Forest is wafting up despite my multiple layers, and I can already smell the balsams, firs, and pine needles I will soon be amongst, the woody twigs crunching in the snow beneath my feet, and are there berries hidden somewhere deep within the branches?
Mmmm love Enchanted Forest. Tis the season for it, that’s for sure.
Got to do some sniffing today: Galop, the MFKs and the Armani Preve line. Standouts were Prive Cuir Amethyste, which broke my heart by turning to cumin on my skin; and MFK Lumiere Noir Pour Femme, which for some reason I didn’t try on skin. That one will require a revisit, it could qualify as anniversary gift material in February. Galop was pretty, but rather light and a bit too floral for my taste.
Just an observation: I’ve bought 3 brands of peppermint bark and 2 peppermint mochas recently, and only one tasted of peppermint. Please tell me the evil regulatory forces are not vilifying peppermint oil. 🙁
Have a pleasant evening, all.
Try the Bark Thins peppermint — it’s pretty pepperminty!
I wasn’t feeling well in the morning and wasn’t sure if I’d go to the office – so I didn’t put any perfume on while I was dressing up for the online meeting. So when I decided to go, I left house and only at the office realized that not only I wasn’t wearing anything, but I even didn’t have any stray sample in my purse! I have no idea how it happened! Now I’ll have to suffer scentless for 3 more hours 🙁
I’ll probably go and read everybody’s comments and live vicariously through NST’s readers 🙂
Oh no! You took a short perfume vacarion! I hope you feel better!
I’ll live (and it is warmer in the office today!) 🙂
It wasn’t a planned vacation!!! I hate when it happens. I feel almost naked!
I’ll have to spend some time tonight thinking on what to wear tomorrow… maybe even put on a “runner up” after I decide on the winner 🙂
Rose Jam shower gel and rose body lotion for me today.
Went with SL Cuir Mauresque today.
Since I was determined to limit purchases (and was mostly successful) this year, I can’t really comment on a Best Buy. I will confess, however, my one real regret is NOT buying that bottle of Fleur de Chine that practically had to pried from my greedy, clutching fingers a few months back…
Ah, you smell gorgeous! We’re potential scent twins – I own and adore Cuir Mauresque, and am on a months-long quest to convince myself that I Do Not need Fleur de Chine.
Hi, SheriG! I’d love to have a scent twin — and I’m pretty sure you do in fact NEED that bottle of Fleur… 😀
