Monday scent of the day 11/28

Posted by Robin on 28 November 2016 166 Comments

Lacroix choker

Oh dear, it's Monday again. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Christian Lacroix (It's Lacroix, sweetie) Tumulte Homme.

Reminder: on 12/2, wear a perfume by Michel Almairac, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the vintage Lacroix choker ("vintage opulent choker necklace featuring three strands of multicolored crystals, faux pearls, glass cabochons, wood, iridescent mother of pear [sic] and lucite elements in a gold toned setting") is already sold, sorry, at 1st Dibs.

It is from the Berdoues Grand Cru collection…while I am not a huge fan of oud this one is light on the oud and powdery, balsam-y and fruity….really hits the spot on a cold morning…and the bottle is gorgeous 🙂

I actually got mine as a gift for a family member who let me decant and I paid twenty dollars less by purchasing at an online discounter….I told her she better give me that bottle back when it is empty 🙂 (I am collecting them)

I came back from vacation over the weekend and mentally prepared that it will be a few more months before the next.

Tauer Rose Delight body oil, drinking cherry blossom black tea.

I am going to sample Gris Montaigne today, at some point. I am feeling rather lazy today

Wearing Ambra del Nepal by I Profumi di Firence. One of the best ambers out there. I love the smoky incense opening more than anything else. Cozy and warm. My bottle will come to an end soon, so I am using it very, very careful. Earlier in the morning I sprayed the whole sample of Cadencia L’eau Des Collines Violette edc, that someone from the swapmeet included as a goody. Sadly, it did not last more than 5 minutes on me, so except for an iris note in the opening I did not have and chance to get anything else. Lovely, for the time it lasted.

It’s weird, is what it’s like! Really. And I have no real idea why I love it, but I do. It’s my “Tom Hardy in a leather jacket” frag.

Amouage called it an animalic chypre when it was released and I was like, “Ummm, NO. Not going to try it.” But then I did, and it was *weird,* so i tried it again to figure it out, and somewhere along the line I got addicted. Up top, it’s very medicinal – clove, pepper, some wacky herbal thing – and then it turns into a BWF (at least on me), lots of jasmine and some tuberose. And then woods, musk, and fur/leather.

    Monday!

    1) Kinda of a saddish Thanksgiving. But restful and got to meet up with friends for a Friendsgiving.
    2) I really just wandered through shops with no real goal in mind. Every other year or couple of years I just really don’t shop all that much for Christmas, only to do a HUGE shop every so often.
    3) Which was fine since I got a bill sating that I was short on escrow and need to send money to top up ( taxes for Oregon, specifically). Ho Ho Ho!
    4) Got a little Christmas tree, and ornaments from IKEA and HomeGoods. Am thinking of a suitable gift for my housemate (she is a nurse).
    5) Am wearing By Kilian Back in Black today (from a sample). It smells like the most sweetest, yummiest…baby powder. Specifically, Johnson’s Baby Powder with honey and vanilla notes. It’s lovely- but $260+ for baby powder? I don’t know, guys!

        Hey there!

Yes, the bill was sent out the week of Thanksgiving- thanks a lot! But honestly, since I bought the house at the end of August, but taxes are due the 1st of June, it kinda makes sense that there would be a need to top up the escrow.

Oh, that’s right- a tax refund! I was planning on new furniture and landscaping the backyard- but I am sure a luxury bottle would be able to squeeze in there!

The winner?- Tried Santal Majescule next to Cocoa Sandalwood. Loved the sandalwood and peach in the Sonoma Scent! In the end the SM lasted longer on me, and the rose and spice wears beautifully. Yum! I’m wearing it again today and thinking of getting a bigger decant of the SM with the STC cyber Monday discount code.

Are you a fan of her scents? I read her coffee table book, which has a chapter on her perfume lines (and perfumery in general) and have been vacillating back and forth about picking some up.

I only have tried, and now own, this one so can’t say anything about the others. I do really like this one, though. It’s a sort of retro rosy floral, and quite well done IMO, especially for the price. I hear Erotique is similar to Stash, but it’s hard to find these days.

I have a work-related event this evening and this will take me from day to evening.

Wearing Queen of Hearts, which I picked up after reading the cheap thrills thread. It’s lovely! What a great way to spend fifteen dollars.

Drinking double bergamot Earl Grey with a bit of honey and cream, because it’s so chilly in Southern California today. I had to pull out the winter sweater box from the top shelf of my closet this weekend and rediscovered some favorite cold-weather clothes, at least.

SOTD is Anne Pliska. My sample arrived over the weekend along with a few more ambers that have been on my to try list. I get the comparison to Obsession and I get the orange creamsicle and so far I am liking it all. Somehow it feels less “dated” to me than either Obsession or Coco, both of which I own and love. That bottle is really something!

Wearing the new Coromandel EDP today, layered over patchouli EO-infused lotion. The EDP is both slightly sweeter and less patch-heavy (to my nose) than my old, aged EDT decant was. I’m hoping the patchouli and other resins will deepen/strengthen a bit as my bottle ages (I think they did in the decant, if I’m not mistaken), but it at least smells recognizably Coromandel-ish, and I can give it a boost in the meantime to suit my own personal hippie-ish preferences.

And thanks to everyone for the wonderful patchouli suggestions over the holiday weekend! I’m getting together a sample order, as well as giving my essential oils some love. 🙂

    Hope Monday treats everyone well!

SOTD has been Huitième Art “Monsieur”, a perfectly respectable woody gentleman’s cologne. It would be great on me if I were a perfectly respectable woody gentleman. On skin, it has lacklustre (but not disgraceful) longevity. Worth a shot if yer likes yer wood.

Notes: patchouli, cedar, vetiver, sandalwood, poplar (populus) buds, incense, papyrus, oak and oakmoss.

It’s from Blooms October sample pack (I’m up to date at last), which is an exploration of cashmeran and as such will put off as many people as it attracts, I imagine.

This is kind of late notice, but on Parfum1, they have 25% sale in addition to already low prices. I am particularly upset at Liquides imaginaries Bello Rabelo being sold for an amazing $105 per 3.3 oz, because I recently bought it from them for their – granted, very low- price of $140. They also have Dom Rosa, which I did not try, but saw mentioned here on NST in the article about boozy perfumes. Apparently, Parfum1 is another face of Twisted Lily, because I receive Twisted Lily cards and samples with Parfum1 orders.

Parfum1 started as a perfume discounter. They sell all kinds of perfumes.

Twisted Lily is their boutique in Brooklyn that sells niche only, pretty much, and also has an online store.

    • cazaubon says:
      29 November 2016 at 11:12 am

They are owned by the same person, however Parfum1 regularly has discount codes and Twisted Lily does not. Twisted Lily has higher end brands generally but there is some overlap. Always check both before ordering.

I’m moving so slow today I have to keep checking to make sure I actually got out of bed.

Stopped at a Cracker Barrel during a holiday trip and picked up a small tube of hand cream in the gift shop: Dionis Goat Milk Skin Care in the Virginia Hyacinth scent (there were quite a few). I’m not a floral lover, so this was a pleasant surprise. It’s not very rich, absorbs easily, and the scent is light and realistic. And at $2.99 for a one ounce tube, a great stocking stuffer.

Still trying to decide between TF Santal Blush and Bel Ami, to get me rolling on my (by now, evening) errands. Oh well, guess I’ll have to stop for sushi along the way. Happy post-holiday readjustment, all.

Robin, you are wearing one of my favorite perfumes, just wore Tumulte Pour Homme last week. I stalk Goodwill online for perfume and thought they had a sealed bottle up for sale but I was, sadly, wrong. I’m wearing Gris Clair today. A lovely perfume friend sent me her bottle last week and I am enjoying spraying with abandon instead of dabbing on from my last decant. GC suits the dreary, chilly rain today.
