Wednesday scent of the day 11/9

Posted by Robin on 9 November 2016 236 Comments

Iris sanguinea

It's Wednesday. Some of us are celebrating, and some of us are grieving. I want to remind everyone to please heed the comment policy and leave politics out of it, please? Instead, do tell us what fragrance you're wearing.

I'm in Thierry Mugler Oriental Express.

Reminder: 11/11 will be Iris Friday — wear an iris fragrance, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I am sure I am not alone when I say I was up until 3am waiting for the results. So this morning is a strong cuppa black tea, Alexandra by Mariage Freres. Yum Yum. A bit of almond milk and a drop of honey.

I am commando today, so I will wait and see what I feel. I need something to keep me awake so I can be there for my little ones. Maybe more black tea and some nice perfume. Any suggestions are welcomes.
This will be one of those days where I nap with these guys are napping.

I can’t really recommend perfume well, but I was thinking something cozy for napping. I think I’d choose something with amber notes. I’m also quite bleary eyed today and drinking ALL the tea in the office.

I didn’t sleep well too, but for another reason- my little baby boy caught a virus and it is harder for him to breathe due to stuffy nose.
When I need to stay awake I spray ( and it always helps along with a cup of coffee) Sisley Eau du Soir or Chanel 19 edt. For taking a nap with kids -Balmain Ambre Gris, EL Sensuous Nude, or any light amber or/and vanilla will work.

Got about 2.5 hours of sleep last night and I’m *useless* today. Decided to use my whole sample of L’Attesa, which might have been inconsiderate because I had a dentist appointment this morning, but she said I smelled great. Now I’m pounding the espresso hard, hoping I get my work done before I pass out.

Robin, that is on my endless “to try” list. I bet you smell fabulous!

I have had 2 (count ’em, TWO!) Perfectly. Horrible. Days. at work. So bad, I’m considering quitting and living a life of debauchery and ruin. Added to that, the political play we are witnessing is really testing my ability to remain sane. I’m envisioning myself as Nicholas Cage in “Leaving Las Vegas,” except I rarely drink alcohol…

I’m consoling myself with Amber Flush. The name leaves a lot to be desired (maybe it’s a typo and was really meant to be Amber Flash), but the product is divine. I put some in my very dry (some would say crispy), frizzy, grayish hair Monday night and it’s still going strong. In fact, the best part of my workday yesterday was a co-worker who said she kept getting “good wafts” from me, which made my otherwise bleak and depressing day more bearable.

    Happy humpday, I guess ????

I find it a bit bizarre that there’s an Amber Flash in the Tauerville line, and then Amber Flush in the regular Tauer line…. but I like both, so I’m not actually complaining. Naming aside, you smell great!

It is odd, and because I’m old, I completely forgot about his Amber Flash Perfume. I have not sampled it yet, but the name was obviously lodged somewhere in my cerebral cortex.

SotD = Infusion d’Iris EdP. It’s much less potent than the EdT I wore yesterday, and the dry down is a little bit sour. Reformulation, old stock, or who knows? Oh well. It’s so “meh” I may have to find my sample of Hiris later to boost me through the day.

For anyone bargain hunting, Infusion d’Iris EdP (30 mls) was about $40 US on Amazon.com. The EdT (50 mls) was about $50 US on FragranceX.com. I had a bit of birthday money leftover in October so I bought them for perfume-science. You’re welcome. :)

The prices on fragrances from discounters fluctuate rather wildly. A few days ago Google began showing me unsolicited updates on the price of another scent with a daily percentage change in price. This is not the stock market, Google, you’re overreaching.

LOL, Google acting the same way as the stock exchange is rather ridiculous, but somehow not surprising to me. I work at a digital marketing company and there’s a lot of eye-rolling some days with Google.

Note to self; despite going quiet very quickly, the EdP hung on and smelled nice longer than I thought it would. The bit of sourness may have been from the citrus bar soap I used while showering today. Whoops!

One of the few who went to bed early last night. Morning flight to CA that resulted in a headache from not pounding as much water as usual (window seat instead if usual aisle.) But I had a lovely dream about my mom where in the dream I knew she wasn’t real but she gave me a hug that I actually felt. Incredibly sweet and awesome. So that’s my hangover this morning…

No scent yet. I brought all sorts of samples with me, so my sister and I will play together.

I’m wearing a couple of dabs of Mitsouko Parfum (vintage) and waiting for the little rain shower to pass so I can go outside and enjoy my last day here at Mom’s. I’m not complaining about the rain except that most of it has gone around us and we desperately need it. They’ve had 3-4 inches all around us and we haven’t even registered a tenth of an inch. My cousins leave early tomorrow morning and I’m so sad that we all have to part and go back to the real world. Today is just all around unsettling.

Good morning, NST. I’m with Anniky in mood, but I’m saying it in Epic instead. I smell like the roses, but I feel like the thorns. Come a little closer, world….

I went a little mad yesterday and bought a black dress. And a white top. And another one. And a scarf. And a blush. And a lipstick the colour of toffee, because I’m bound to need brown lips some day. Ummm, correction in the interests of accuracy: I didn’t go a little mad, I went a big bit mad. And look, this is me, not giving a single, solitary damn. Another hefty spray of Epic, and I’m good to go.

I’ve read about this brand of ice cream in novels and such. It seems to be heroines’ chosen comfort food after a bad break up. I wish I had explored it before I had to embrace my no ” sugar ” regime! If you ever get to A-NZ, make sure you try Kapiti ice cream. I used to love their apple crumble flavour. The dear one sneaks treats of raspberry and white chocolate flavour when he thinks I won’t notice, so it’s probably quite nice too.

Well, that’s over. Time to take care of myself and my home. I have a kitchen reno, landscaping, and painting, painting, painting on the agenda for the next six months or so. Today’s project is taking my perfume out of the old cabinet and putting it on the bed so I can paint the bedroom walls and ceiling and then put the perfume back in the new cabinet. SOTD is Rodin. I got a decant when I was exploring jasmines, and now I know that it’s overpriced and lacks longevity. I probably wouldn’t buy it again, but it is pretty and I need to use it up.

It’s cloudy here, which is quite a jolt after the longest stretch of perfect, stained-glass fall days that I could remember. I’m stepping away from iris with the Miller Harris Fleurs de Sel. There’s a cold wind from the salt marshes, but I’m wrapped in heavy wool that smells of peat smoke and the traces of a spicy perfume of days gone by.

SOTD = 28 La Pausa EDT

I sprayed lavishly because that’s how I roll with 8-spray La Pausa! I wonder why Chanel dropped
    “28” from the EDP version?

I think they would want me to increase the dosage, the more quickly I can finish my humongo bottle. I’m still working on my smaller bottle.

    You smell great, Robin!

I’m commando and will probably remain so for the rest of the day. I don’t feel like scenting this day, and, even if I did, I’m so thoroughly congested I couldn’t really smell anything. Instead, I’ll turn my perfume thoughts to finding/choosing an iris scent for Friday.

Do enjoy your scent today, you NSTers with functioning sniffers!

One advantage of living a million miles away from the US is that I watched the declaration of the election results at a civilised hour and went off to bed at the usual 10pm. But it took me a while to get to sleep, so I’m in similar need of invigoration as some of you. I’m thinking I might address that with 24 Faubourg.

I’m also suffering horrible car repair bills, so 24 Faubourg will be a good fortifier. It’s not a surprise, my car is nearly 25 years old! I like it and have kept spending on it, but for the same amount of money, I could have bought a car-sized pile of perfume :)

SOTD – Iris Poudre. A big shiny enabler pin goes to hajusuuri for this one. She is the one who sent me a sample to try and the rest is history. I layered it with a sample of Iris Powder body butter and am really enjoying it.

Hello everyone!Hope everyone had a good day!Started the day not being able to shower,a huge break in the main waterline lead to a total cut-off of water.Luckily I do have a bore-hole,but I use that water sparingly(I AM an OCD hand-washer.It came in handy for that purpose.Lol.Well,all I can say about the election from down here in South Africa is:I heard alllll the Trump-ets…We had an amazing thunderstorm just now,I will have a vegetable harvest before I close the door to my sold house, like never before!SOTDWTFAmerica-day L’Occitan Eau de Baux.Coffee+Vanilla and some spices sure perks me up.It’s actually funny-tragic,today’s date:another 11/9(9/11…)May the gods, the forces and the angels be with you all!Xo

I fell asleep early on the couch last night (watching Project Runway on Hulu because I couldn’t bring myself to watch the election), so I didn’t see the results until I woke up around 2:30 this morning. I didn’t get back to sleep. I am wearing Rossy de Palma.

I’m wearing the glorious TM Over the Musk today, and it comes with a funny story. I sprayed this and said to my 14 year old son ‘ hey come smell what the seventies smelled like ( because he is forever asking me about the old days, lol) he took a sniff and said ” the seventies smelled like root beer?” I laughed so hard, and I keep trying to find the root beer note.

SL Gris clair, because I needed mourning and ashes and transparency.

I added some TF Noir de Noir later on, and the mix is surprisingly gorgeous. Sweet, sophisticated, deeply comforting.

It’s been citrus all day to try stave off the…darkness. Mugler Cologne (morning) mixed with a bit of C&E Tarocco Orange (in the afternoon) and replaced with JM’s Orange Bitters for a night at the orchestra. Think I may have to stay with citrus indefinitely.

Hajsuuri – I also bought it on the first day I tried it! It’s my second bottle of Jo Malone, and the only one I’v paid full price for. I was a bit concerned that I bought it too quickly and would not like it as much on subsequent tries – but I’v actually been loving it :)

I was so shocked I forgot to put on perfume today. So now it will be a little calming/woody J’ai fait une reve pour lui that dries down so delicious and comfortable, like being inside the benzoin-ey pages of a favorite storybook from childhood all wrapped up safe and warm in a soft blanket, drifting off to sleep enveloped in love…

FB worthy, for sure, and perfect for a lovely day.
