Happy Monday, all, and Happy Bittersweet Chocolate with Almonds Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in the fabulous Honoré des Prés I Love Les Carottes.
Reminder: 11/11 will be Iris Friday — wear an iris fragrance, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Shibu carrot pencil cases are $7.90 each at YesStyle.
I went to Sullivan St tea and spice shop over the weekend and I am enjoying China 5 Peaks green tea. Very lovely. I did use my thermometer to take the temperature of the water, the leaves seemed delicate.
I am in Hepcat Phlur perfume, from a generous NST’er.
Tobacco, whiskey, cherry…
I keep one of those variable temperature kettles, they are lovely for that purpose if you drink lots of green or oolong tea.
Hepcat sounds fun!
I have one of these, too, and it also holds the temp for up to an hour. It was my husband’s idea to buy it and when I saw the prices on them I balked. It was worth ever penny and then some – one of the best purchases we’ve ever made. I’ve also discovered that I don’t hate green tea – I just hate it when it’s burned and overbrewed.
You are one hep cat????
Phlur. I can’t decide if the name feels clever or odd. But it sounds like you smell great.
Good morning! I love it when we set the clocks back; I didn’t have to drag the kids out of bed! SOTD is vintage Shiseido Murasaki. It’s so good I just wonder why I don’t wear it more!
I love that one–those older Shiseido scents are fantatstic. Ylu smell wonderful.
SOTD is L’Eau Intense (Carven).
In the gorgeously gorgeous Cuir de Lancome. Rich, warm, lovely, inviting!
You smell great.
Yum
Gorgeous! This will likely be my Friday challenge pick – I don’t have many iris fragrances that are winter weather compatible!
You smell wonderful!
SL Iris Silver Mist, which I don’t wear often enough, mainly because I only have a partial bell jar, just about one-quarter full.
Has anyone tried the most recent version? Those black travel atomizers are tempting.
Glad to be reminded of HdP Carottes. I need to wear that this week, too.
I have two of the black atomizers and really like that they keep the scent away from the light, BUT they’re almost too big for travelling and if you have more than one you can’t easily tell what’s inside. Getting one for free would be nice, though.
Yes, I have the BK travel atomizers, which are also a bit heavy for travel. Their real advantage keeping the perfume readily accessible and safe from light right on my dresser top, and without taking up much space.
I also like the rather obvious fact that they spray!
ISM is still good to me.
Thanks, cazaubon. Good to know!
On the road with my husband, who abhors all scents, so I’m commando EXCEPT that I can get away with a few drops of Smashing beard oil by Beards and Beavers: it smells pleasantly like Fendi Theorema or a Terry’s Chocolate Orange and is therefore unobjectionable.
Ah, wonder if I need some of that? No beard though. So far.
It’s not expensive ($25 for a one-ounce dropper bottle) and you could definitely use it for a skin or hair oil: jojoba and argan oils, the usual. Not greasy at all. The company makes lots of other great simple scents, too: Cowboy is vanilla tobacco, Twice Baked is bakery vanilla, Greaser is espresso and sambuca.
Thank you! Very tempting. Even cheaper ($18.99) at Men’s Essentials.
Well, the $25 is in Canadian dollars, which frankly are in the toilet right now.
Gotcha.
It is cold in Paris today, low of 1 to high of 6 degrees (C) and even snow flurries forecast. I’m in Aeon “Aeon 001”, a great tobacco-vetiver concoction with a resinous background, even better in November than when I first tried it back in September. Notes are vetiver, white flowers, smoke, spicy notes and resins.
This is one of the Blooms’ September pack that I’ll be trying this week. The theme is ‘Luca Turin approved’ as they are all scents LT praised in his blog (sadly stopped now). Only one of them lists Iris as a note so I will sorta-kinda-maybe join in the community project on Friday. :^)
I am jealous you are in Paris even though it’s very cold.
I am sure most NST folk would make more of the opportunity of being in Paris than I have. I should be flitting from palace to perfume shop to museum. I am actually living a life of chasing people to give me stats on milestones or data migration or training completions so I can provide slides (inevitable flawed) to endless meetings (which somehow contrive to take up more time than was planned but make fewer timely decisions than are needed).
From next week my new AirBnB will be next to the Louvre so I will at least see tourist Paris for the 5 minutes it takes to walk to the commuter station. The office is moving to St Denis, which is an unsavoury neighbourhood and I am not going to live there. Except for June, I’ve been staying in the outskirts close to the previous office locations, which is no hardship but not terribly exciting either.
I hate being good places for work when I have no time to do anything but work.
Blech, and I thought Toulouse was miserable this week (highs of 10ish and light rain). I, luckily, am heading to Barcelona tomorrow for a conference, where the highs are at about 18 and the sun will shine all week. \o/
Incidentally, I saw another vegetarian restaurant and thought of you! I haven’t tried it out yet, but if you ever come back, there’s a new place for you to eat 🙂
Yes, our naïve plan of basing ourselves in Paris and going on weekend excursions all around France did not survive contact with reality. Too much crap going on needing one of us to be in England most of the time. We haven’t even made it down the road to Chartres. 🙁
I’m sorry to hear that 🙁 I had a similarly naïve plan before moving to Toulouse. “I’ll pop up to Paris once a month,” I said, as I turned down a doctoral opportunity in the city of love. (I’ve been outside of the airport in Paris three times in the past 2.5 years.)
I don’t have enough iris in my scent wardrobe, so I’m wearing Bergamot, Jasmine & Labdanum.
No need for anybody to be in iris all week! Or even on Friday, if it doesn’t work for you.
Loads of Dior’s Cuir Cannage this morning as my doorbell rang unexpectedly while spritzing and my finger twitched.
Oh well, if I have to over-apply, there are def worse choices. Leather and violets and rumpled sheets.
You smell great!
Leather and violets, you smell fabulous!
LOL! One of these days, I have to use this excuse for overspraying!
SOTD is Mon Parfum Chéri par Camille – delicious spicy iris, plum and patchouli.
Oh, another fab iris to wear this week! And it’s basically the Goth niece of Jacques Fath’s great Iris Gris.
I’ve never smelled Iris Gris but interesting to know that MPCPC is similar.
They have peach and iris in common. Iris Gris is much softer, makes you want to wear a perfect couture wool suit. Mon Parfum Chéri par Camille has patchouli and is edgier.
DSH Scent of Hope is a recreation of Iris Gris that is very close.
Phew, I don’t pick up the peach in MPCPC. Love it.
In Iris Gris, there is supposed to be a balance so that it’s neither peach/lactones nor iris. But if you get a different variety of fruit in MPCPC, you might be smelling more carefully than I am, admittedly.
Well, I’m right on cue without prior knowledge wearing CSP Amour de Cacao. Peace Out ✌️️
After spending last week celebrating Halloween by testing every fun size candy manufactured, Bittersweet Chocolate with Almonds Day is another reason to continue the party! Also, my son finished the NYC Marathon- his first one ever- and the joy on his face reminded me of his expression when he took his first steps!
SOTD is Slumberhouse Kiste. The dark dense macerated floral fruit and tobacco is perfect for this ( finally) transitioning weather.
Congratulations to you and your son!
Oh, congrats to the son! That’s lovely.
Wow! Congrats on his huge achievement.
Oh, what a moving experience for you! Please add my congratulations to him!
That’s fantastic!, well done to both of u.
Thank you!
I love Kiste and wore it much of the weekend! You smell amazing.
Nice job!
Thanks!
Congratulations to your son. And since I swore off large amounts of chocolate after my Halloween indulgences, thanks for picking up the slack (for now).
My pleasure 😉 .
Wow! Big congrats! That’s some race.
There were 50,000 runners from all over the world and as they finished, they, whomever may have accompanied them, and spectators poured into the streets. It was refreshingly friendly and cooperative mass of people. I suppose on some level it was like a meet up of perfumistas who don’t know each other, but have a common passion.
Sounds wonderful, congratulations to him!
Congratulations to your son! What an achievement, and what a touching description of his joy!
Oooh, congrats to your son!
I am wearing Heeley Iris de Nuit, which is a soft violet-iris, with a cedar-musk background. Very nice–I am glad I dug out my little decant.
I am drinking a mug of mixed end of the bag second-flush Darjeeling from samples. No bad. Someday I need to try blending teas with a little more care instead of dumping the last few grams of a bag into a communal tin.
You smell lovely.
I love that, will definitely join you later in the week. Vintage No 19 EDT for me today.
I’m wearing DSH Nourouz today. I’ve been waiting for the weather to cool off so I could wear this.
I’m glad its Iris week. I will get on the bandwagon with this very soon 🙂
You smell great!
I definitely have enough iris scents to do a whole week of them, but for some reason this morning my hand went straight to the bottle of Le Temps d’Une Fete. It’s supposed to be clear and cool here today, so I guess I’ll find out whether Le Temps works in the fall (shhhh, I’m betting it will!). 🙂
I think it does!
I agree, it’s really perfect for autumn!
You smell wonderful! I think Le Temps is great all year.
Doused in Amouage Epic, chain-drinking Aftelier rose and ginger oolong tea, and listening to Rachmaninoff in a desperate attempt to keep it together. Seriously, YOU try writing your thesis during the most stressful election of my lifetime. I don’t think iris scents are going to cut it for me right now.
When I feel stressed I wear peaceful scents and listen to Yo Yo Ma or Bob Marley
-Ya mon!
I was going for the amping-myself-up-to-get-through-this approach 🙂 I may have to use the peaceful approach to get through tomorrow, though.
You can do it!
I wrote some of my thesis from Peets coffee shop when I lived in CA. Lots of caffeine to keep me going..
Ah, for me that was 2000! 😀 (only senior thesis for undergrad)
I remember at the time I had Hole and Public Enemy on repeat.
Excellent musical selections, although the kind that would distract me from words on a page! I’d expect bits of song lyrics to be interspersed with your solid analysis.
Ya, I couldn’t do it. Even classical can be too distracting when I really have to focus.
I usually use classical music to drown out more distracting noises; I live in an old building, so sound seeps in easily. I do have to stay away from pieces I love too much, as they distract me, and could definitely not handle Ede’s music 🙂
Thanks for the tip about Abduraimov! He’s absolutely irreproachable on recordings, so I can only imagine how amazing he must be live!
Hee! At the time it for the Philosophy of Science part of my degree, in which I investigated competing schools of epistemology. It got meta Really quickly!
Don’t know why you’re so stressed about the election – I was pleased to see the other Centre-Right candidates sock it to Sarkozy, so after that it’s all peachy. Or is there another election going on somewhere far away? Surely we’d have heard something… 😈
Hahahaha!
That little devil emoji is very appropriate. Here it feels like ????????????????.
I’ve decided to throw a party to celebrate it being OVER!
Muhaha!
You need some New Sibet! Iris funk.
Goat fur!!! This sounds fascinating! I’ve never tried any Slumberhouse, but now I quite want to!
You have a U.S. address? I could send you a bit if you like.
Oooh, I do; thanks, that’s so generous of you! Could you please e-mail me at ko bhatta at jee male dawt com so I can send you my address?
Your tea sounds delicious. We are hearing Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto 4 next weekend. I love his piano concertos. We saw Behzod Abduraimov play one (No 2? I think) this spring and he was awe-inspiring. I was on the edge of my seat and in tears the entire time. He’s a young (late 20s/early 30s?) pianist from Tashkent. If the opportunity arises to see him, one ought take advantage of it.
I’ve never seen him! Thanks for the tip. No. 2 is my absolute FAVORITE. Not just of Rachmaninoff, but of any music ever. I’ve been listening to it for the past two decades with varying levels of emotional engagement (it gets more poignant when my emotions are more fraught, of course). Have a great time at no. 4! I feel nos. 4 and 1 don’t get enough love.
We are planning a drinking party for tomorrow night – to either celebrate or drown our sorrows! Iris is very calming to me so I plan to douse myself heavily.
I can’t drink, alas, but do plan on iris dousing.
SOTD is Alahine. I need some beautiful comfort today as we get our library ready to be a polling station tomorrow. E-gads!
Beautiful comfort it is! Sounds like tomorrow might need to be a Chanel N. 19 day. 😉
Agreed on the Chanel 19 for tomorrow! Loads of Iris and galbanum and has a sort of intellectual bend to it, perfect for an Election Day.
I think tomorrow will be a No 19 day! It’s going to be really warm anyway so it will be perfect.
Alahiiiiine! Your library smells amazing..
I wish I could get it into an air freshening system. Not that our library air smells bad, but to add that great book smell, computer ozone, some coffee smell and alahine, that would be fantastic!
Oh, you smell lovely.
I can’t seem to wear Alahine in fall, but it is just so gorgeous. (I need some cooler temps than the low 70s we’ve been getting.)
It’s kind of warm here by the afternoon, but our morning temp was below freezing with a hard frost, so it works from going cold to warm and into bed later. It has remarkable tenacity.
Oh my…perhaps a library venue and your perfume wafting will aid in well considered choices. You smell lovely.
That and our bake sale. I’m hoping luscious treats will kind of chill everyone out.
Here I was feeling smug that my library is not a polling place, until you mentioned the bake sale…
Whoa, not only does your library smell better than my library, the food is better too!
And sugar placates the masses once again. Gotta love it. 🙂
Hi twin 😉
Loving this one!
😉
I hope tomorrow goes smoothly for you!
Monday!
1) Grrr. I am hold currently for tier 2 tech support for an internal issue. I frigging hate this, and the systems in place to do the support seem not to support us getting back to work and making money, but to assure the system managers that their system is followed. GRRRR.
2) Am in Dark Amber +Ginger Lily.
3) It’s too early for this #$%&. I need a huge cup of calming Chai tea now. And a slice of toast!
I am right there with you on that multi tier help desk stupidity. Huge waste of time. Hope you get through to someone who can actually solve your problem…
I gave up , as per usual, and fixed part of the issue myself It’s enough to have me . The overall issue, though, is still there, and has been there throughout the quarter, despite numerous emails and phone call. I am now at Hulk Smash(tm) mode. Looks like kickboxing class for me tonight! 🙁
I really hate when doing my job gets derailed by others not doing theirs, especially if the system itself is a bad one. So sympathies and happy kickboxing!
Anticipating aggravating meetings this morning I wore Tam Dao, wonderfully soothing and, applied judiciously, very safe for work. The first meeting was not nearly as bad as it could have been, so the week is off to a good start!
A lovely and calming choice!
Happy Monday! I’m in Narciso Rodriguez for Her today.
A perfect Monday scent!
You smell great!
Happy Birthday to me! SOTD is my extravagant gift-to-self: Mohur Extrait. Mmmmmm
Happy Birthday. Hope you have a good day.
Happy Birthday to you! You smell glorious.
Happy birthday to you, and enjoy your gift-to-self 🙂
Happy Birthday! What a thoughtful gift????
Happiest birthday!
Happy Day! Oh Happy Day!
Happy Birthday!, and what a perfect gift.
Happy birthday dear Pixel!!! It is a beautiful gift 🙂
Happy Birthday. Enjoy the gift!

What a wonderful gift! Happy Birthday, Pixel!
Happy Birthday! Lovely gift!

What a perfect gift! Enjoy it and have a happy birthday.
Best Wishes on Your Birthday, PIXEL!!!
Happy birthday! Excellent gift choice.
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday Pixel! You made a lovely choice for your birthday splurge!
Happy birthday, and what a perfect birthday splurge! You smell heavenly!
Hey there! Happy birthday and what an outstanding gift! Every time I see see your screen name, this song goes through my head. It’s like a special Steely Dan song just for you ????
https://youtu.be/V6OrUOPn1zw
Happy Birthday and woohoo on Mohur Extrait!
Excellent gift!
Messe de Minuit to cheer me up (?) on a dark and snowy day.
Not everyone’s idea of a cheerful scent but hey, whatever works for you, right?
Monday! I should be really well set up for a week of wearing iris. One of my favourite notes! Starting the week with Parfums DelRae Mythique. Bit of a “fruity” iris and doesn’t last all day, but that’s only an excuse to reapply often.
Nice pick!
Yes, must dig this up and retest.
Intersting. I don’t really think of Mythique as an iris. I too will retest this.
SOTD is Coco. First wear of the season.
I need to get some of that. You smell great.
Yummy, I haven’t worn mine yet and it’s definitely time.
Beautiful.
You smell great!
Tea for Two! Have grown to love this in a matter of days. Worked surprisingly well in Maui’s mildly warm and breezy weather.
I am liking that one as well! One of Luckyscent’s top picks for fall. I wasn’t lucky enough to be wearing it in Hawaii though!????
I confess I am consumed with jealousy. Maui is my heaven on earth.
I’m in Opus I today. Finished off the sample this morning.
In my attempts to pare down what I have, I’ve gotten down to one small box of samples. I have some 10ml ones I’m looking forward to using when the weather gets colder. Some I may wait until spring/summer to wear since they are lighter.
All of this means I’m almost down to bottles only now (plus the travel sets). Time to bring them all up from the basement now that the whole house is much cooler during the day.
I have never gotten into the Opus (x) and I am likely to write off Amouage as a must smell line. Congrats on getting down to a small box of samples – very disciplined!
I really needed something entirely silly, and this guy who photoshops himself into Kylie Jenner’s Instagram photos does it for me:
http://www.someecards.com/news/so-that-happened/kirby-jenner-kendall-photoshop-instagram/
hysterical..
Thanks, I needed that.
too funny
THANK YOU. Truly, what the world needs now.
Ahh, hilarious!
Loved that. Thanks!
That is hilarious. Thanks.
Genius.
Mind tonic! I love it!
Ahahahahahahahah I had to stop looking after the third one so I could catch my breath. Ooooh, that’s funny.
Habanita L’Esprit. A girly floral powder puff which goes nicely with the brisk clear day today.
I wore this the other night and really liked it. I need to give it a proper wear with a sweater, though (instead of pajamas 🙂 )
A pink fuzzy bathrobe would work, too! I actually think it makes a good bedtime scent in small doses.
Jardins d’Armide for me today
Poudre De Riz, and as a powder fiend, I find this perfectly comforting in the best possible way. Certainly a good week for that.
Perfectly comforting, indeed. You smell snuggly.
I have you to thank for sharing! It’s really served me wonderfully all day and is still going quite strong
Gooooood Morning NST!
I have really missed you guys. I am working on a great assignment, but it is knocking the wind out of me. In perfume events, my husband gave me a beautiful bottle of Chanel Beige parfum for my 50th (yes, to all you young’uns… there is such an august age), and we brought the kids into the city to SFMOMA. Lunch at In Situ, which was hilarious and fun. My other big perfume adventure started with a gushing main break outside my front door. Called the water company to shut off the water, and a plumber to help me figure out what to do. The plumber arrived first and was super helpful. She (yep, a she) turned off the water main, helped me sort out who to call to dig up the stone path, etc etc, until… she got a whiff of the Dior Mitzah I had applied that morning. She HATED it. She said I was poisoning her and everyone else in the world. She said she’d have to wash all of her equipment because it would make her sick. I was a pawn of Big Fragrance. I was forcing my worldview on others. I was cancer. I stank. (Okay, the last she said with a smile.) And that was the end of that.
Today I am in Rose De Siwa, waiting for other plumbers to call me back…
Wow, interesting response from a plumber in regards to your perfume ????
That’s a soft n fuzzy perfume for such a heightened response.
Interesting coming from someone who deals with toilets, sewage pipes, and stagnant water.
My thoughts exactly.
Wow! I’m speechless! Well, perhaps not speechless, exactly….but, really? A complete stranger felt entitled to say such things to you, about you, when she’s a guest on Your Property? Truly, when you’re at home, if you want to have bats hanging from the ceiling and wear nothing but a winsome smile, it’s no one’s business to remark on. Please tell me this she-plumber wasn’t armed with anything more dangerous than a plunger and a monkey wrench! The thought of a personality like that having access to a blow torch is too chilling to contemplate! On the plus side, though, how deeply cool that there are women in their own plumbing businesses.
You know, there was a bit of a maternal vibe going. That is she was speaking with maternal concern about my oppressive, room-emptying, carcinogenic habit. She also recommended several non-Western medical curatives for wound treatment (no wounds evident, just something to talk about). Also, she spoke at length about the impending election. It was an advice-filled morning indeed!
Totally cool to have women plumbers!
What an insane response from a plumber!
INSANE!
Wow. First of all – happy birthday. Beautiful gift, and sounds like you and your family had a great time.
Wow, the plumber story is hilarious. I know we have our loves and hates among smells etc, but this is taking it too far 🙂 I would not imagine plumbing equipment smells better than Mitzah 🙂
Hopefully you can join us on Sunday for fragrant discoveries.
How are you enjoying Rose de Siwa? Is it similar to A la Rose?
You know, I thought if you when I got my first whiff of Siwa! I think it is similar to Lumiere Noire and A la rose. It is fruitier than LN (notes say lychee) and has a violet note with a teeny hint of powder, not found in A la rose. It smells luxurious to my nose. Rose luxury. Weirdly, and this is of course highly subjective, but it smells more luxurious than the two from Kurkdjian’s MFK label. If you cannot get enough rose, then you’ll love it. If you are picky about your roses, this is an unabashedly pink rose with violets and a bit of pink fruit, and a teensy weensy bit of face powder.
I am with you on this one. Rose de Siwa is a little girly for me personally, but I think it is beautiful and more interesting than A la rose or Lumiere Noire.
A million pink rose petals. You smell lovely. That story was hilarious.
Happy 50th! Great times are in store for you. 🙂
As for your plumber, as someone who has had her sensitivity ups and downs, I’d guess her continual exposure to noxious, immune-system assaulting substances has exaggerated her response to very different smells. ‘Tis the season of gratitude.
Ya, I was thinking the same re: the plumber.
Happy birthday. I’m pleased to say that things have only got better since I passed the 50th milestone a couple of years back.
What an amazingly rude plumber, but also very funny!
Yea for 50 and proud!
First happy birthday. Second that’s insane. Seriously.
Congrats on reaching the august age!
(Hugely funny story, but sorry for your plumbing woes.)
Happy birthday! Such a beautiful present! Enjoy!!!
Wow! Was she serious? Happy birthday!
That is crazy! Especially as this is a service person that you are paying and that kind of work is never cheap. Geez.
I did have a weird feeling that someone might pop out at any moment and declare, “You’re on candid camera!” (For those of us old enough to remember that show!)
Happy Birthday! A pox on rude people. Hope you can join us in SF on Sunday for yummies and/or sniffing.
Happy 50th!Ten years to go then I’m there!!x
Wow… the plumber actually said all that? Aside from being bat#Q$! crazy, that’s just extremely unprofessional behavior. But at the same time, read the right way, it kind of sounds like something out of a Portlandia sketch.
Haha! Yes it does.
It was completely something out of Portlandia! She made me look like a fitness guru by comparison, so “health” is definitely in the eyes of the beholder. I wasn’t angry at all. Just another day in Oakland.
Also happy birthday!
I can’t imagine what was going on in her head to come out with that diatribe, but happy birthday and welcome to 50! I joined that club earlier this year. Flaunt your Mitzah!
“Flaunt your Mitzah!” Words to live by!!!!!
Happy Birthday! And wow, what a story! I recently had a huge plumbing issue, so glad you got yours resolved.
Happy Birthday! And thanks for sharing the plumber story–it’s a head scratcher!
Ooh, happy birthday Oakland and poop on the plumber – yes, I am juvenile!
Infusion d’Iris Absolue, which I don’t have to think about…
I will surely be in that one this week.
It’s present, but so easy to wear, I’ll probably be doing it again this week…
Completely forgot about Iris, so my scent of the day is something else altogether. Musc Intense, Parfums de Nicolaï.
Round 2. Of testing La Femme Prada at the department store…an attempt to get my hands on the tester. Different sales assistant.
I point at the bottle at the shelf and ask if I can test La Femme Prada. She looks at the bottle and tells me it’s called Prada Milano. They don’t have a perfume called La Femme Prada. I ask if I can try Prada Milano. She says ‘Yes’ .
Score!
She gives me a tiny soray on my wrist and then gives herself three decent sprays and returns bottle to shelf behind counter.
I ask myself what Robin would do…i already know the answer.
I ask about prices/ sizes and then ask if I could just look at the bottle as I am curious about the way it looks.
That is a lie.
I am handed the bottle and I give myself four decent sprays.
The S A smiles takes the bottle back and has another spray.
I ask once more about Angel Muse. We talk about Christmas coffret sets etc.
I re- sniff my arm. It’s OK but not me.
…Next installament: I ask to try CDG BLack Pepper at the posh shop and fail to get my hands on the tester! TBC
The SA’s are so stingy with their sprays sometimes!, good for u to get a more generous amount.
That’s hilarious! Good job!
Oh, geez. Kind of her to share some of her stash with you. Reminds me of the SA at Sephora who made me a sample of Prada Infusion d’Iris EDT and wrote “Prada Milano Toilet” on the little baggy.
“Prada Milano Toilet”, hahahahahahahaha 🙂 Sorry, juvenile sense of humor today. Needed that giggle, tho 🙂
Hilarious!
Dang. If that’s what it took to do some testing, I’d skip it altogether. The only kind I do in public is at Nordstrom where they supply atomizers and I can wander through the perfume department making samples of whatever they have more or less unnoticed.
Come to think of it, that kind of interaction is why I stopped shopping at department store counters in my teens. I like to shop alone and be left alone.
Lol.Ask Merlin how I test perfumes in department stores….
Oh, no. Are you that guy at Sephora who walks down the wall of perfume, stopping and showering with hefty amounts of every other scent?!?
Are you that guy who hoses himself down with every tester on the shelf? I saw that happen at Chanel one time, it was amazing.
Sounds like Europe… they don’t like customers touching the merchandise… even the testers.
That’s bananas. I love that you got the tester and sprayed yourself!!
SOTD – Galop. Thank you dear hajusuuri for hosting the split.
Woot!
Hello, hello, hello, and best of days to you all. I’m home, and though I don’t want to go to work, I’m glad to be here, with the cats and the space of our apartment and some different clothes. I loved my holiday, but tea made with leaves in a pot and our bed are some compensation for the return to this reality.
I have new perfumes to play with….let me see, shall I try out Dries van Noten or En Passant? Or is it an iris day? Ummmmm, En Passant, I think. The weather is changeable, and lilac seems suited to the warm sun and cold wind.
Off to work now. Oh dear.
Hope the work day goes swiftly, the first one back after a lovely holiday is such a drag. Still, I agree with u on own bed & tea!
Glad you had such a great trip, it is always a sad moment to head back to work, but like you I do love the feeling of being home again after a time away.
At least you will arrive back at work knowing you smell wonderful. I love En Passant.
I’m wearing Safari today, it’s really lovely on a sunny but chilly autumn day, sometimes it’s too sweet, but perfect today.
I will start iris’es tomorrow as I have quite a few to chose from.
It’s dawned bright and sunny here, after yesterday’s unrelenting rain. I’m thinking it’ll be Chant d’Arome this morning.
I really love those pencil cases, Robin! Need something calming and pretty and have bucketloads of iris, so today L’Attesa.
If I were still a user of pencil cases I’d have bought the purple one already 🙂
If I weren’t 53 years old and supposed to be a serious person, I’d have the orange – which I might just get anyway! Since I am not a very serious person. ????
I am wearing Moon Bloom today, just because it’s so pretty.
Pretty fabulous,that Moon Bloom!
Rose Jam + BV today. Have as pleasant a Monday as possible, with special intention to those still in the grind.
I am wearing Gourmand Coquin today compliments of a generous NSTer…
I love it..like chocolate spice cake w/ vanilla icing . My three year old said donuts which is in the ballpark too…
You smell delicious! 🙂
Give that 3 year old a hug for me!
7 spritzes of 28 La Pausa edt today. I noticed on the Chanel website that the EDP is called La Pausa, without the 28.
7 spritzes! Yum.
I use 8 myself 🙂
En Voyage Zelda, green and mossy and gorgeous.
You smell wonderful! One of my absolute favorites????
I’m finally trying out Iris Prima (was shocked to see the release date of 2013 when I looked up the notes, as it feels like just last year), which I received in the swapmeet. You know, it is something I may normally find too boring, but on this Monday, it is just right. It’s pleasant and a bit sparkling, and it stays close to skin and doesn’t distract me. I probably won’t reach for it much except on tough Monday mornings when I can only handle something light and easy.
I like that one too. Nothing too exciting, I know, but wearable.
So waiting for Iris Friday (11.11 is also natonal holiday in Poland)
I’m gonna take out of the drawer all my irises [muahahahaha]
Iris nuclear meltdown… 😉
LOL. 11/11 is also a holiday in the U.S. – Veterans’ Day. It also happens to be a nephew’s AND his best friend’s birthday!
Sotd Vierges et Toreros.I don’t know if you guys know the traditional Lennon’s medicine, but today this smelled exactly like Turlingtons, which my Mom used to spoonfeed us,literally,on a sugarcube, for every and any ailment.Memories.Good to have them.x
I have all of my irises for the week lined up and ready to go, but had a craving for Papillon Salome, so that’s what I’m wearing. It is really hitting the spot on a dark, gloomy, wet day.
Hope everyone gets through the next 36 hours without having a nervous breakdown. I’ve been pretty calm but am starting to get anxious. Regardless of how things go, I’ll be happy not to have a physical and electronic mailbox full of campaign ads come Wednesday. There are a couple of local candidates here who send (hard copy) flyers EVERY DAY. Every day. Really? You think anyone responds positively to getting 30 of the EXACT SAME 8 1/2″ x 11″ glossy heavyweight paper advertisement over the course of 1 month?
The world’s gone mad.
Yeah, a bit of anxiety is starting to creep in. Make sure to keep dousing yourself in reassuring scents! I know what you mean about the inbox. It’s out of control!
And the phone calls! I had never lived in a swing state until we moved to PA, I had no idea. We get multiple robocalls EVERY day, it’s annoying as all get out.
I’ve just been throwing what looks like junk mail into a pile. Whenever my nephew stops by to work (I pay him $7.50 per hour), he sorts through the mail, shreds what’s needs to be shredded and recycles the rest. I would have used him as a swap / split / freebie assistant but he does not like perfume and it would be tortuous to make him do it.
Coven with a small spritz of L’air de Rien. I wanted cozy and strong so thought I would give it a try.
I have a mental image of my armor clad warrior stomping all over everybody’s pretty iris. She’s mad because I forced her to wear a cozy sweater over her dragon hide.
Heehee ????
I would never think to combine those 2 but I love them both separately.
I enjoyed the combination. Coven coming through loud and clear and L’air as a mildly sweet hum in the background.
I went out to help my husband remove a huge fallen branch that was wedged in a cypress tree. I’m absolutely sure my cloud of fragrance repelled the heavy piece of chain that broke loose and whacked me in the back. It should have left me black and blue and all I have is a little trail of red welts across my upper back. Perfume armor really works! 😉
Ouch. But yay for perfume superpowers!
Spritzed on some Bas de Soie, not what I usually wear this time of year. It smells like rich-lady hand cream, nice but not a full perfume. Odd…
I am wearing Dovana, one of the samples from Sylvaine Delacourte Muscs collection that I received today, this one has amber, iris, vanilla from madagascar and neroli, it is really nice, reminds me of something else but couldn’t figure out what. I am looking forward trying the others.
How great that you ordered the smples, looking forward to hearing about all of them!
SOTD is Guerlain Habit Rouge.
Sweet relief, tomorrow is finally Election Day. Let’s get this thing over with, already! Best wishes to all who may have crowded polling stations; hang in there!
Amen! Thank the heavens for the SNL Election Special, it was excellent. Didn’t realize how badly I needed the laugh.
No perfume for me today. No sense wasting juice with this dastardly head cold. If I can’t sniff, why should anyone else get to enjoy my waft?
Get well soon Luna Green!
Hope you feel better soon!
SOTD- Iris Poudre. I have enough iris perfume to do a week project and I will! Not really fall appropriate note, but I love it anyway and it fits with the weather (68F today :)).
Iris is perfect all year round for me.
I am sure it will be perfect all year round for me as well, as I only discovered my love for iris this spring.
Hmmm reading nst today is so calming. Thanks to everyone here for keeping the focus on something worthwhile! I’m on a break between massages. I offered a pre-voting day stress reducer massage special and got overwhelmed with bookings so been doing back to back 45 minute sessions since 10am and will finish by 8 pm. SOTD is sandalwood oil and sage smoke.
I could sure use one! My heart is pounding.
Today my bottle of Au Coeur du Désert showed up. It is a lovely warm cedary scent. Wears close to the skin but longevity is good, it’s an extrait. Very happy with my purchase. If LADDM is too strong for you, this one could be perfect as it is similar but quieter and softer.
That sounds perfect. I was wondering if it is a splash bottle or spray? I am contemplating ordering this too. I was waiting for your review . Enjoy.
It is a 50ml spray in his standard bottle.
I also am really enjoying it. I gave it some good wear this past weekend in the cold and I think I prefer it to LADDM, myself.
Did you try the amber oil as well? If so, how do you like it?
I am looking forward to getting my decant!
Narciso EDP for me today. I used up the last of my gwp body cream. The body cream is as good, if not better than the edp. It can certainly just be worn on it’s own. While I’m at it, I will also give a thumbs up to the shower cream.
Thanks for your review, I will look for the cream and shower gel.
Waaaah! Late to the party again!
SOTD = SHL 777 Khol de Bahrein
I am doing 5 days of iris. Khol de Babrein is powdery amber sweet (reminds me of the hard shell of Jordan Almonds used for party favors), perfect for this cool day in NYC.
Deva and kpaint – I need to clarify that I mixed up the order of the type of soap I got from Solstice Scents – it’s actually cream whipped soap, not whipped cream soap! It actually has the texture of whipped cream, so there’s that.
Iris week will be a piece of cake for you. I hope you like the scent of your new soap since it is not what you thought you were getting.
I have some of that egg white soap that smells like chamomile, love it.
Oh, I just mixed up the name when I left the comment over the weekend. The scents were what I ordered: Sycamore Chai, Sycamore Sugarworks and Owl Creek Aleworks which all seem to no longer be available. I also have Foxcroft which is still available. So far I’ve used Foxcroft (half a jar left) and Sycamore Chai and they are really fabulous!
Ah, got it. They sound amazing!
And I think I can do a month of Iris without repeating 🙂
Cream whipped, whipped cream, it all sounds good to me. My Amber Flush was waiting for me when I got home from work today. I’m predicting yours will arrive tomorrow…????
Oooh, update! I got my package today but I have not yet opened the box – will do so later.
I had a craving for Shalimar this morning. It was perfect for a clear cold morning and a busy day at work.
