Happy Almost-Friday! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm relaxing with Comme des Garçons Kyoto.
Reminder: 11/4 will be Peace Out Friday — wear a fragrance that brings / gives peace. Suggested by Lovestosmellgood.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Twins! That’s exactly what I picked out yesterday to wear today! It’s a lovely.
I meant, “it’s lovely,” lol.
Hey twin! I almost did Ouarzazate and might do that tomorrow.
Premier Figuer Extreme. So while my brain is telling me I’m at work, manically trying to hit unattainable deadlines, my nose says I’m somewhere in the mediterrannean snoozing under a fig tree. If only.
You smell great. I haven’t smelled Extreme, but the original is the only fig perfume I can tolerate and it’s divine.
I have both, and although there’s not much in it, I think I prefer the Extreme because its a little bit greener.
Ah, wouldn’t that be nice to be napping under a fig tree somewhere warm?
I have been napping under a palm tree in San Diego. 25C and not a cloud in the sky. Paradise.
Needed something warm and cuddly this morning so I’m in Safran Troublant. It was a long night in Cleveland.
Love Safran Troublant. It’s my second favourite L’Artisan (Dzing! holds the top spot).
I really need to try Dzing!
Tough night for you. Such a rollercoaster.
Iris Nazarena for me today.
Hello Iris Cousin! I am in Chanel 19 edt.
Journey Woman for Peace
Perfect!
Egoiste Chanel- the cologne concentree. This concentration has an intense musk ambrette base in addition to the sandalwood, rosewood and spice of the EDT.
Peaceful and pleasurable, would that the world were this way.
Carpe Diem.
You smell great! I haven’t tried that version but I love the edt.
“Peaceful and Pleasurable, would that the world were this way. ”
Agreed.
SOTD- “Moss”- a green essential oil blend of bergamot, lime, galbanum (lots of it!!!!), elemi, jasmine, violet leaf, cedar, patchouli, oakmoss and vetiver
Lots of galbanum sounds great to me.
I knew you would say that 🙂
That sounds lovely!
Barbara Bui, which feels perfectly peaceful to me
Love that one. So cozy.
Yep!
Wonderful choice, it’s like the scent equivalent to comfort food 🙂
Chanel Coromandel EDT. Lovely stuff, resisting the urge to get a FB before it disappears.
If you are really thinking of succumbing, I wouldn’t delay too long. Many stores are out of the EDT, and only the EDP shows up on-line.
*Not enabling – honest (says the woman who sprung for a large bottle before it was sold out) * 🙂
Someone on basenotes did a comparison between EDP and EDT. Apparently no 22 is unrecognizable and Coromandel has lost some of the chocolate note in EDP formulation.
I like the patch level in the EDT better. Decisions, decisions… 🙂
Oh, this is distressing!
Has anyone smelled Cuir de Russie EDP?
Yes and I thought it was wonderful. Two thumbs up.
Wearing Lancome Tresor. Warm, soft, powdery. Pretty and inviting.
that was my grandmother’s perfume. She was a hoot! She would spray that on, and invite all her girlfriends over and they would be up all night playing penny poker and smoking! and drinking too.
Sorry to ramble but I have such funny memories about her and her wild life!
I always love to hear how perfume can bring such special memories. Thanks!
PG Coze, which I find both peaceful and energizing.
I am drinking MF Adventurer’s Tea.
Hi Monkeytoe, I’ve been trying to find that tea on the MF website, but haven’t been able to so far. Is it the same as the Alexandra Néel?
I have the Alexandra tea..its de-lish. Spicey, almost like chai
I am using the English–it is the de l”aventurier: http://www.mariagefreres.com/FR/2-the-de-l-aventurier-T7091.html
It is a black tea blend with mild citrus and a tiny hint of vanilla.
Thanks!
Coze is a good one. You smell great!
SOTD: Breath of God.
Need I say more? 😉
Drinking: Genmaicha. The fragrance of toasted rice is so satisfying.
You do not need to say more, and now I am going to go make a cup of genmaicha — perfect for the blah weather here today.
Hanae Mori EDP. Ahhhh.
Wearing brand-new decant of Chanel 1932 edp. Really nice, but then I already knew it would be.
You smell great. How does it compare to edt?
EdT is much sparklier and the citrus note was just gorgeous with the florals; EdP is substantially similar but reminds me just a bit of 31 RC with the base a little heavier and more prominent. I *loved* the top of the EdT, but it lasted like 30 minutes on me, so I’m pleased with the extended longevity.
Thank you, I love the edt but doesn’t last on me at all. I will try the edp.
Ditto…I have the EDT and am hoping the EDP has more staying power.
Thanks for the comparison. I find some similarities between 1932 and 31 RC in the EDTs. I wouldn’t call 1932 31 RC Light 😉 less I offend anyone but they are linked together in my mind’s eye.
PdN Maharadjah. A wonderful spicy lavender.
Tea is Paris s’éveille by Betjeman & Barton
Toffee tea! Is it delicious?
It’s more nutty than candy, but it is very nice. I only drink it when it’s colder out.
Congrats Chicago on their World Series win! Today’s my Friday ????. We’re going to Cooperstown, NY for a long weekend for the hubs b-day. Can’t believe he’s never been to the baseball hall of fame since he’s a native NYer and a huge Mets fan! Soon to be remedied.
Warmish today so trying out L’Instant de Guerlain pour homme EDT which my swapper gave me to compare to the EDP. Really juicy yellow citrus opening followed by the same ambery cacao base but it’s sheerer. I like both versions very much.
Happy Birthday to him!
Thank you on his behalf!
Happy birthday to Mr. Elisa P. I hope you have a fun weekend!
???? Thanks!
Happy B-day to your husband. Have a great time in Cooperstown!
Thanks!
Happy Birthday to your husband, and have a great weekend, 🙂
Muchas gracias!
Still working out of hotel till tomorrow
Still wearing Wazamba the only thing I packed.
Purchase alert! Ordered new Tauer from luckyscent yesterday.
Thanks for beautiful pic Robin
One of my favorite places to go in Tokyo
Congrats on your purchase!
I just ordered it too!
Couldn’t manage to stay up for the game last night, but what I saw was exciting, and I don’t even care about sports! Everyplace I go today will be bedecked with Cubs accoutrements, I’m sure.
A bit of Reglisse Noir today–need to use before it turns.
Even my husband could not stay up for the game! First time ever that I informed HIM of a sport score in the morning.
Is this the Fushimi Inari shrine, Robin? I’m going to visit it tomorrow, that’s why I’m curious.
I didn’t wear anything today, as we spent most of the day at an onsen. But I wore JM Nectarine Blossom & Honey yesterday, when me, my sister and my daughter were dressed up as Geisha apprentices. That was quite an experience.
What fun! I hope there will be photos on your blog, Annikky, and that you continue to enjoy your trip. It sounds like a marvelous experience.
Yes, probably. I just need to figure out how to write about it.
It is, and lucky you! Have a great time.
Thank you! I feel very fortunate to be able to do this trip.
Annikky – when you get to the shrine, keep walking up! It gets quieter and more delicious smelling as you keep going up the path.
Thank you, will do so!
Saddened that my Indians lost the World Series this year. I’m hoping that they will win it next year. I am wearing the dry down of URV right now. That one has the life span of nuclear waste like most Tauers do on my skin. After my shower, I think I will switch over to Noontide Petals or Orange Star. I love Andy Tauer’s work even though some of his perfumes don’t work for me.
We expect to see them next year. Hope it’s against my Giants.
It was exciting though, wasn’t it? I’m just hoping we Clevelanders will be extra kind to each other today – we’re all tired and disappointed.
I’m wearing vintage AG Passion this morning, as I was thinking about perfumes that I wore at different times in my life. Looking up the original Lagerfeld Chloe, I got curious about its creator, Betty Bussé. Google found me this fascinating 1977 profile of Ms. Bussé in the archives of People magazine:
http://people.com/archive/success-smells-sweet-to-betty-busse-the-woman-with-the-million-dollar-nose-vol-8-no-14/feed/
The article notes that she was the highest paid female nose at that time. Adjusted for inflation, her $100,000 salary would be worth $406,400 today.
It also credits her with several more perfumes than Fragrantica has, not only Chloe and Estee, but also Prince Matchabelli Aviance, Rudi Gernreich, and Marcella Borghese Fiamma.
Robin, I wonder if you’d consider adding Betty Bussé to the NST perfumers list? We can’t forget these pioneering women perfumers!
Oh, interesting! I did really love Chloe, even if I can’t wear it now (pesky high school memories). Such a gorgeous floral.
Fascinating…I wore Chloe when it first came out….drained several bottles…currently have the perfume in that gorgeous stopper bottle….don’t wear it often but when I do it brings back a flood of memories….
I will add to list! But gosh I am behind on the list.
Excellent!!! Thanks!
I tested (vintage) YSl Champagne the other day and kept getting little whiffs that reminded me of KL Chloe.
Interesting, I’ll have to check that out, kpaint!
Sorry Robin, I have to save my Kyoto for tomorrow! Today I’m wearing Sables. Peaceful as a pancake breakfast that I didnt have to cook.
Nice. A part of me wants a FB. Another part of me thinks I will not be able to use the whole bottle. Go figure
I like it, but it’s not full bottle-worthy for me. Im still working off a 1ml sample I bought probably 3 years ago.
Ha! Me too. I really do like it but I figure a 2ml sample every couple of years will suffice.
Hee-hee, I love pancakes, and I love them even more when someone makes them for me. My mother was wise. She taught me to make pancakes and let me cook them on my own starting when I was about 8 years old.
Hello, well that was quite the ball game last night and congratulations to the Cubs and their fans.
I am wearing Yves St. Laurent, Cinema. A beautiful warm ambery scent for Fall. Not as in your face as opium. A great buy on line in a beautiful bottle.
Opone today (can’t be bothered to spell it right at the moment). Dry roses, slightly scratchy woods – it feels rustly and crackly in a way that is just right for fall (although we had a lot of rain last night so things are tending toward squelching right now).
Narciso EdP for me. The creaminess is so comforting.
Feeling almost hungover from that baseball game. My husband’s Cubs roots kept building. Over the years I think he had basically steeled himself for “not in his lifetime.” Lots of channel changing, leaving the room, hope and grumbling pessimism, fearful optimism throughout the night. Made me wish for a bigger home. I’ve never seen a stadium so filled with people (on both sides) in such pain and on the verge of throwing up.
I was waffling over Narciso.
It was something, wasn’t it?
Congrats to all the Cubs fans!! Yay! What a game! Talk about suspenseful.
Lots of loud yelling out on the streets in NYC.
I lived in LA during the Lakers championship run in the early 00s and you didn’t even have to be watching to know what was going on. Everyone in my neighborhood had their windows open and the cheering and yelling coming from outside let you know when the score went up and down. Fun!
That’s such a great description of watching the game, at home and in the stadium! Seriously, if not for my experience using calming breathing, I would’ve been a mess trying to sit through it. I will admit, however, that there was an abundance of superstitious behavior in my household to help the Cubs! ????
Oh yeah… I took credit this morning based on the fact that I stopped using our Cubs pint glass. I used it at the beginning of the series but decided it had bad mojo. Soon as I stopped pulling it out of the cupboard they started winning.
I’m convinced the fact that I couldn’t find my lucky Giants scarf doomed us…but I’m okay with that.
SOTD – David Jourqin Cuir Altesse.
Twin 🙂 For some reason, I also decided to wear this today
How do you like it
I am not sure, the rose in it kind of puts me off somewhat
What about you?
I love it. But than again, a boozy rose is right up my valley – although I did not detect any rose until you mentioned it.
Happy “Friday Eve” Everyone!
My SOTD is Ikat Jasmine by Aerin Lauder.
I’m wearing Sarrasins this morning, just because. I watched all the game last night, rooting for the Cubs just because 108 years is long enough to be Series-Winless. At one point I yelled “Go, go, go!” at the TV and scared the heck out of the cat, who spent the remainder of the evening under my bed. I’ll make it up to her by serving roast chicken as her dinner.
In my house we refer to it as “cat skittering time”. My husband has a tendency to put the TV on mute, so it’s nice and quiet. Then BAM! He reacts and cats skitter away.
Poor cat! ???? I imagine that the element of the Cubs’ curse brought in a lot of viewers last night who might not have otherwise watched. I’d say it lived up to the kind of excitement you want from a Game 7, luckily.
You smell fantastic Robin! Kyoto is one of my favorite incense fragrances, and actually one of 3-4 incenses I can pull off myself and enjoy.
I’m in Secrets du Paradis Rouge by JUL ET MAD today
You smell great too 🙂
Thank you. For the moment there are 3 incense perfumes that don’t bother me: April Aromatics Calling All Angels, CdG Kyoto and Atelier Cologne Encens Jinhae.
Can’t think of any other that works for me
Narcisse Bleu today. Citrus colognes always have a cheering and gentling effect on me, and this one’s such a soft, sweet beauty.
It’s a particularly working-stiff sort of day, where managerial weight had been thrown around, so am in Encens Mythique as a counterweight.
Sorry!
More spoils from the swapmeet…
Vintage n. 19 EDT today…I smell great.
I had a little bottle of n. 19 extrait a long time ago that was part of one those little Chanel wardrobe sets they no longer make. 🙁 The world needs more perfume coffrets! 🙂
Yes, absolutely. I wish I wish I wish for more 15 ml bottles!!! Even if they are more expensive per ml.
Agree with you both!
I’m in Vero Profumo Onda extrait. I’ve been on a Vero kick recently; having rediscovered all my bottles in the dark corner of the cabinet. Onda is very much a perfume like walking in the park in autumn. Smells of wet leaves; earth; and cold and dark places. But not like a cave dark. Park after sunset dark. Love it.
How is that woman so talented? How? She’s made, what, five perfumes and I need to have all of them in all concentrations.
Onda sounds wonderful, I still have to try it.
The whole line is fantastic !!
Are you seeing the difference between concentrations? I thought the difference in concentration of Rozy was amazing
She differs the ingredients as well as just their percentage levels between concentrations.
There is a melon note in the Rozy Voile which is not in the EDP or extrait.
You smell great! I love all her extraits. Such an incredible talent.
Since it feels more like spring than fall today, I am wearing vintage Jolie Madame. I love, love, love this perfume!
Ditto! It’s wonderful.
Not a day to relax today, 31 r cambon for me
31RC is my go-to “get ‘er done” perfume.
Hope it does the trick! You smell wonderful.
Early Friday morning and I am in Monsieur Li. Very serene. I tested La Femme Prada yesterday and was disappointed that it barely registered. The shop assistant was being frugal with the application so maybe that was the problem.
They would not let you hold the tester?
Here in France, a lot of SAs get really pissy when you try to spray for yourself and take the tester out of your hands. I tend to leave those shops fairly quickly.
So funny how different it is depending on where you are. I would never let someone else spray perfume on my person.
Yes, the first time I went to Frédéric Malle in Paris I approached the testers and was sharply addressed by the SA not to touch them, she would assist me when she finished with her other client. Many shops don’t allow you to touch the merchandise but I thought the testers would be okay. Apparently not. And she wouldn’t let me smell more than 3 scents.
Usually I get my hands on the tester – don’t worry! But this time she sprayed a blotter and then when I asked for it on my skin she sprayed my wrist as she still had the bottle in her hand. My problem was with the amount she sprayed…
Bois des Iles EDP today.
You smell lovely!
How do you find the EDP compared to the EDT please?
I’m no help on this front, I’m afraid. I haven’t worn the EDT of Bois des Iles enough to know off the top of my head if there are real differences. I haven’t done a side-by-side. I will say when I spritzed in from the bottle (from the new EDP) for the first time I was impressed. But if I do a comparison (which I’m sure I will at some point, I’ll keep you apprised!)
The EDP is brighter and more aldehylic based on smelling from the paper strip.
super relaxed SotD = Chanel Eau de Cologne. The Santa Ana winds are blowing. It will be hot hot hot today.
I’m curious about the incense and resinous fragrances that get lots of love for having a peaceful feeling. My nose might be overly sensitive to these notes.
Stash made me feel like I’d been dipped in smoke. Grand Amour, which I think has a reputation for gentle florals, smells like myrrh and little else to me. Like Dory just keeps swimming, I just keep sniffing.
Have you tried any sweeter incense scents or blends? Monyette Paris, Barbara Bui, Parfums de Nicolai Vanille Tonka all come to mind, they are very different but all are smooth and pretty. I love incense perfumes but when I finally smelled Stash the opening was very harsh to my nose. Always plenty to sniff!
Thank you for the great incense suggestions. I have not tried those and will add them to my must-try list. There are testers of Shalimar and Kenzo Amour at a local perfume counter. Each time I walk by I take a sniff. I’m working up my courage for a spritz.
I agree that Grand Amour has a strong myrrh note (I smell a lot of hay or broom as well) but I love it.
I am testing tiny dabs of Grand Amour and will try to find the hay/broom next time I give it a sniff. 🙂
Ha, I was doing the “Just keep swimming!” quote to the Cubs throughout the game last night!
🙂
Have you tried Vanille 44 – non-gourmand vanilla with incense?
Ohhhhh, just looked at a review. Vanille 44 sounds wonderful, a must-try. Thank you!
Kyoto is one of my favorite incense perfumes, I need to break down and get a bottle one of these days.
Wearing Imaginary Authors Slow Explosions today, which I love, and which also smells like it has an incense note although there’s none listed. It reminds me of Wazamba so I compared the notes and they both have apple in common, I smell it more I’m Slow Explosions. I’m glad they smell similar to me now that Wazamba is only in a big bottle and more expensive. The World Series was so exciting! I’m in IN so I’d be happy with either win but we’ve always been Cubs fans and the series has been a welcome break.
4th ‘peaceful’ scent is Parfumerie Générale “Bouquet Massai”.
Notes are peony, magnolia, karo karounde, coffee, cashmeran, sandalwood, tolu balsam and fruity notes. It’s nice but doesn’t last (and is one I’ve tried before in warmer weather, with the same result).
All my peaceful perfumes have been from the Blooms “Aequeous Florals” sampler from early this year, and what I have learned is I like how they smell, I don’t think they are really me, and none of them has worthwhile longevity on my skin. :^)
I’m wearing Tea for Two today. I smell like a yummy cup of chai.
I saw your post yesterday that your bottle smelled totally different than your sample. I had a similar experince with my sample but I love the idea of a chai perfume.
Friday here, a lovely feeling after a hectic week. A peaceful perfume seems like just the right thing, so I’ll be spraying myself liberally with Aqua Allegorica Figue Iris.
SOTD: Bottega Veneta the original.. and oh, such a peaceful scent for me.
Tired. Going for more java, fast. Could not get to sleep last night with the game on and all the excitement.
I was just in a Nordstrom and tried this with much pleasure. They made me a sample so I can decide whether to pull the trigger. You smell great.
Oh, good! I can’t imagine ever getting tired of this one.
Scent twins. I love BV. It is really peaceful. Plus, I am wearing a light spice colored suede cloth tank top, and it seemed like a natural fit. I have a small bottle, and when it is finished, I may just buy a FB.
I’m the same, I’ve gone through small bottles – the minis, and currently have a travel spray from a sweet NSTer, but when that’s gone I’m going for the FB.
I’d like to do the 30mls, but in the USA they’re hard, if impossible, to find.
I wish I had snagged a 30ml while in Paris last year in Sephora which is where I saw it.
Did you try the Bottega Veneta website? I had to order from there to get the 20ml refillable travel spray.
SOTD = Al Rehab Choco Musk
This is actually a perfume oil roll on which I got as a gift from a Sniffapalooza friend. I just looked in Amazon and you can purchase 6 x 6mL roll on for $16.45 including shipping! It’s vanilla musk and is comparable with Indult Tihota. It’s excellent layered with Philosophy Fresh Cream.
How’s the staying power on you? On me it goes away after 10 minutes 🙁
Try rolling the oil on your hair. 5 swipes last all day.
Holy cow they are cheap…one roll on is under three dollars! I could not make them myself with e.o.s for that cheap! The one named Soft looks interesting too….on to my list it goes for “cheap thrills” when and if my no buy ban every gets lifted!
Amazingly cheap. I bet you can pop off the rollerball and blend the oils with some of your e.o.
Kyoto was my first thought for a peaceful fragrance, so I’ll probably wear it tomorrow. Incense is just so soothing and all. SOTD is Clair de Musc. This is one of the only lighter musk scents that I like – most are what I consider laundry musks and leave a funny taste in my mouth. Does anyone else experience that?? They are supposed to be easier and not as heavy but blech, most I hate.
Yes, that musk mouth thing happens to me, too. Ugh.
I’ve been sick all week, which is a real bummer and will make me further behind at work. Despite that I stayed up to watch the Cubs, the only baseball team I’ve ever rooted for from years spent in Chicago and my love of Shawn Dunston, who played for them in the 80s! Trying Sadanne at the moment, which really just smells like a put strawberry jam on my wrists. I love a lot of the Slumberhouse line, but this is too linear and too sweet for me. I get no roses at all. Then again, my nose isn’t in top form at the moment.
Hi Amy
Sorry you’ve been sick – what a drag. Hope things improve for the weekend.
Thank you!
Hope the Cubs win helps you feel better soon! ????
It was a good thing to stay up for!
So sorry you’ve been sick, hope you are feeling better soon!
I grew up just outside of Chicago, and even though we were big White Sox fans, I’m thrilled for the Cubs and the Chicago fans who have waited Forever for this. Hope you’re feeling better soon!
My Tauer Amber Oil just arrived
Thick, chewy vanillaish amber which is sweet but not gourmand.
Highly recommend !!!!
You had me at chewy… 🙂 I guess I shall spring for both now. Haven’t tried the rose one yet but it’s gotten such good press here.
My backup Rose arrived with the Amber.
Just sayin’ ………..
Yay! Can’t wait for mone to arrive.
Omg! Cannot WAIT to get mine in the mail! Came home from work this evening and was so disappointed it wasn’t in my mailbox. Good to hear such a positive response!
I got samples of PG Indochine and Cadjméré in the mail this week, and thought I had put Indochine on this morning until I looked at the Cadjméré decant and since it’s almost empty, that must be what I put on. I’ve been thinking the 2 smell really similar but now I’m wondering if I’ve only been testing Cadjméré and not Indochine, the decant of which is almost full. *Is confused.*
At any rate, neither name connotes peace in any way (to me) but scent-wise Cadjméré could fall into that category. It reminds me of ELdO Bijou Romantique which I’m going to buy a FB of from the Sephora sale tomorrow, so I’ll go ahead and finish off this decant today.
I bought 6 PG decants and one thing they seem to have in common is excellent sillage for the first hour or so, then a disappearing act morphing into skin scents thereafter. For that reason, I’d never buy one – money spent; money saved. 😉
I have tried 13 Parfumerie Générale samples so far this year, and only 2 have had acceptable lasting power for me. (Those were Hyperessence Matale and Musc Maori). I think its a Pierre Guillaume problem – his Collection Croisiere stuff has mostly had the same issues, as does his Huitième Art, as does his Phaedon. It’s a shame because some of his stuff is just beautiful, for 30 minutes or so. :^)
It is a shame. That said, I’ve worn Hutieme Poudre de Riz and Phaedon Dhzari and not longevity or sudden death issues.
None of them last on me either, except Isparta, which doesn’t keep all its density but something nice remains for a while.
SOTD is Tauerville Rose Flash, which is still hanging on after a shower.
Oh, to be in Chicago today–well done, Cubs! What a good series and what a great game last night! Both the Curse of the Bambino and the Curse of the Billy Goat are broken now!
Curses on curses????
I wore Nasreen by Micallef today, it’s been a glorious sunny day in San Diego. Such a relief to be out of the cold gloom of Montreal for a while. Will be switching to Ambre Nuit tonight. Trying to finish up a bunch of decants as I’ve noticed several have evaporated.
Pulled the rest of my winter fragrances out today. It’s supposed to drop back to the 70s tomorrow. Wearing AG Nuits d’Hadrien, a sweet and spicy sort of peaceful.
Ha, I love “drop back to the seventies”! A coworker told me a cold front was due to arrive Saturday, and when I looked at the forecast, it looked mighty dubious to me- 80 degree F!! Are you kidding me? ????
Wore Queen today, still thinking about what to wear tomorrow. Will probably grab something quick for what will be a less than peaceful day, since today was a hot mess.
