Happy Hump Day! Plus, happy birthday to Shah Rukh Khan. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm peace-d out on a budget with Pacifica Tibetan Mountain Temple.
Reminder: 11/4 will be Peace Out Friday — wear a fragrance that brings / gives peace. Suggested by Lovestosmellgood.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Day # 3 of peace=essential oils theme-
SOTD- “Ian” – a fruity chypre essential oil blend of labdanum, frankincense, oakmoss (lots of it!!!), styrax, tobacco leaf, cedarwood, pine needle, jasmine, lavender, patchouli, vanilla, grapefruit, neroli, bergamot, tangerine and “pear” isolate
Poor Man’s Tea- Lipton Chai
An idea for a future community project (stolen from Brie of APJ): pairing perfume with favorite teas…if we haven’t done it already :)
Oh and Pacifica Mountain temple is one of my all time favorite fragrances…you smell great, Robin!!!!!
she does smell great!
so do you!
I am loving reading all your essential oil blends. You are so creative.
thanks to YOU who inspired me to wear them for my “peace” project all week!
It should be a global event!
Why thank you, and I am sure you do too
You smell great. So inspiring!
I tested my blend Signal Hill Walk last night. I created it 8 weeks ago…give or take…myrrh, kanuka, manuka, sandalwood, lemon, pine….and goodness me. It smells exactly like a paperbag of MUSHROOMS! Is that a good thing? I sprinkled it on my arm and it’s still going strong 9 hours later. So, long lasting mushrooms. I don’t want to smell like a mushroom, let alone a whole bag of mushrooms.
Now, I’m too scared to test my other blends :Everest Girl…for my mountain guide friend who loves Amarige ( i cheated on that one and added a bit of Dame New Musk oil to make it prettier…well, to make it something worth wearing) and my experiment with lavender, vanilla and lemon.
Mushroom!!!!!what???? Oh, yeah…peace, man! Dude, hit me with the ‘shroom oil.
LOL! hey that is right! peace man with your ‘shroom oil!
Honestly, it might change over time so be patient….I have let my oils marinate for up to 9 months…also, I am known to tweak if I don’t like it by adding something else…usually a top note (citrus of some sort) which always manages to make it smell better…
and yes, I have also added a drop or two of china musk or Egyptian musk to smooth it out…..I bet that New Musk is good in Everest Girl…what other e.os. did you add to that one? I bet your mountain guide friend loves it
or actually maybe you might add a floral as that is not noted in Signal Hill Walk….I wonder if that would help……
I might try adding kowhai
You smell wonderful and peaceful Robin!
Drinking green tea and in Gaiac 10 for Peace.
Divin’ Enfant by ELd’O. Fluffy, powdery vanilla and orange blossom with a hint of warm musky skin. Not exactly peacefull, but definitely comforting.
Yummy!!! I would find that very peaceful as well as comforting….
SOTD is Au The Rouge.
I have a little bottle of this one–I will have to break it out and give it a spray. You smell great!
Wearing Seattle Chocolate and now I’m feeling quite hungry….
Have you compared it to any other chocolate/ cocoa note fragrances?
I received this via the last swap and my first reaction was, huh? It’s very odd at first, a mix of chocolate (rich & dark) and pine and sap, but the two latter notes die down to a woody scent combined with the chocolate to make for a not half bad overall chocolate scent. It’s not sweet at all, and it’s definitely not one I’ve got in my collection. It lasts a good long time too, which is always a plus in my book.
It’s a funky take on chocolate, but it works some how.
SOTD: L’Homme Prada. It reminds me of something my grandmother used to wear when I was a child. I have no idea what that fragrance was, but she smelled so good.
What a lovely and peaceful memory.
Wonder what on earth she was wearing?
The timeframe was mid to late 60’s. And, my memory could be WAY off.
You smell lovely Robin!
I’m wearing vintage no 5 EdT over the new no 5 dry body oil, and I think I qualify for peaceful elegance.
I have a question: I bought vintage no 5 parfum extrait, dated to 1930, baudruche is still there, and the cord seal is intact. There has been some evaporation though, but the bottle smells incredibly beautiful. And, for a relative bargain! But…when shall I open it? When shall I wear it? Any suggestions as how to be a responsible perfumista entrusted with this much beauty?
There are no perfumista’s close-by to share this moment with regrettably.
That is a great find. I love No.5 vintage extrait, I would open it and wear it right away.
I second that…wear it and enjoy it!
Wow! What a relic. I’d probably open it immediately. It would be a shame if it evaporated without getting a chance to use it.
Thank you for your unanimous advice!
Open it and let us all know!
Fantastic suggestion, will do!
Open it and enjoy it!
Sounds like the perfume spirits have had their share. They are voracious feeders and should be thwarted, so wear your lovely perfume and tell us how wonderful it is.
Thwarted must be one of my favourite English words. And voracious. Another one is plucky. Which I need to be to open this bottle.
I think the Dutch are the most saving obsessed people on the planet, our collective saving account is 336,2 billion euro’s! So it is much more ‘natural’ for me to save this bottle than to open it. But I am going to be UnDutch about it and will tell you how wonderful it is!
Thank you all!
Can’t wait to hear how it is!
Will give a full report!
How did you date your bottle? I have some extrait from the 70s that I was able to date by looking at old advertisements.
And I agree – open and enjoy it! It’s not going to improve sitting in the bottle, after all
There is a website chanelperfumebottles where the bottles are described and dated very clearly. It is a real crystal bottle, and the juice has darkened and seems sirupy. The seller is a very trustworthy one. I making perhaps too much of a fuss, it is just awe inspiring to have this living art that survived so much!
Not too much fuss at all! It’s an amazing find. One thing I love about buying vintage perfume is thinking about all of the hands it’s passed through in its lifetime. Your bottle has seen a lot come and go.
Open it asap! You never know what might happen in the future!
Feeling all out of sorts as I try to get settled in a new country. I relocated here to Paris (weekends in the south – it’s not quite as glamorous as it appears, believe me!) from the US east coast (just outside of NYC but on the Jersey side of the Hudson). Ugh. Most of my toiletries are on some (fully insured!) cargo ship, so I have to settle for scented bath products until sometime in late December. What on Earth was I thinking? Refusing to spend unnecessarily on scents, I’ve kept my purchases limited to shower gels….from a supermarket brand. Talk about a humbling experience! Really enjoying shower gels from Casino – for about a $1.5 each for 8 ounces, you’d be hard pressed for a better bargain. Enjoying one scented with Tahitian Monoi and happy to discover the scent lingers throughout the day. I may wander in the Yves Rocher at the local mall. Can’t get into too much trouble at those prices!
Best to you on settling in. Moving anywhere is one of life’s top stressors. But, it sounds like a wonderful opportunity and you will thrive.
Sounds exciting! Best of luck on your transition. And those European scent bargains sound great. Wish we had YR here. I haven’t tried too many but I can’t believe how inexpensive they are. The ones I’ve smelled smell much more expensive.
Hope the transition is smooth!
(I hear stories about people finding terrific vintage fragrances at flea markets near Paris, btw. Maybe I only hear about the lucky finds, but if you have some weekend free for browsing, who knows what you’ll come across?)
OMG! Casino is the best supermarket chain in Paris, I think! You will find really useful and wallet friendly items there.
Also, try to find an Aldi’s and don’t be afraid to check out any outdoor stalls in mixed ethnic neighborhoods- you can often good quality essential oils and perfumes from the Middle East!
and if you do buy essential oils there please report back!
Oh my goodness, sounds like a wonderful adventure to me. At the very least you have all those wonderful French pharma products at your disposal. Plus lots of Monoi and the flea markets/ethnic bazaars sounds like great potential. I am envious! Hope you enjoy, once you are settled.
My sympathies to you, I just went through a much more minor move, migrating south for the winter from Montreal to San Diego. I loved hunting down cheapies at Monoprix, I’m sure you will find things to amuse your nose while you are waiting. You can always cruise the shops and have as many free spritzes as you want!
As one who is counting down the weeks until he can leave Paris, I heartily concur with the “it’s not as glamourous as people think” line. Paris is London with better PR.
Welcome to France, fellow expat
I am in a non-budget peace out: Bois d’Encens–one of my favorite incense fragrances.
I am drinking a cup of South Co-op Ceylon black tea from Upton.
Bois d’Encens is stunning!
tea and incense sounds very peaceful
SOTD Suleko Perfumes Djelem for that peaceful, easy feelin’. I’m smitten by the opening which is herbal and a little green from freshly mown hay. There’s a hint of lavender in there that I smell. It’s like being in a warm meadow. It dries down to a powdery vanilla and I swear I smell iris though none listed. I’m finding it calming and just really inviting.
This sounds beautiful. Are you finding these directly from Suleko?
I actually went to the boutique in NYC that carries them but you can get a sample set from her website. She said they ship from NYC even though the price is in euros~$20.
hay and lavender sounds very nice
It’s really nice. The boutique that carries the line is on 75th near 5th Ave, in case you’re on the way to the park with the kiddos
ah! Good to know!!!
I caught that!…now I’ve got the Eagles playing in my head.
Sorry ’bout the earworm ????
That’s quite alright! It’s interesting how both music and scent can evoke memories or association with a particular time and/or place. I was instantly transported back to my childhood ????
Oh! So happy you bought it. You smell great. Did you test her others?
Thanks! The other 2 that we didn’t try were nice, much lighter-a rose and a foresty-woody one. I got the little travel atomizer with the refill bottle, not one of those sculpture bottles. The one annoyance is that she was going to charge me for the sample set which I really thought she should tack on with a purchase of a not-so-cheap item. I didn’t buy it.
In Yves Rocher Accord Chick. It is a very nice scent with pink pepper, iris, frankincense, benzoin. I love the smoky part of it. It is very, relaxing, cozy, calming, peaceful. I am enjoying it a lot.
Sounds really nice. I looked at it on Fragrantica and a lot of people compare it to YSL Nu which I really like. Have you smelled Nu?
Elisa I have smelled Nu, and Accord Chic, and they are very alike. I like Nu very much, and Accord Chic as much if not a teensy bit more.
Thanks! Good to know. I have a decant of Nu which I like quite a bit when it’s really cold out.
Yes, they are quite the same to me. Iris, incense, spices. It is just cheaper. I like both.
Eric’s Parfums Night Flower. Wow! I bought this months ago at an event that Barbara Herman attended and had tucked it away. There’s a hint of floral leather after opening spices with one spray.
Angela said it does have some Cuir de Lancome character with a strip of Knize Ten ( haven’t smelled). This winter, I’m not leaving the house without a decant of this is my bag.
I’m betting that autocarrot turned Eris into Eric’s.
I bet we can definitely blame that on auto”carrot”….right? Hee ! hee!
Someone else here deserves the credit for “autocarrot.” I can’t remember who it was, but I’m thankful!
Thanks, noz, for proofreading.
Missed the autocarrot when it began as part of the NST vocabulary. Glad my error was not made in vein ( hee hee).
Having fun after years of reading my son’s written work, having used spellcheck, also without having checked the word that ended up in the paper!
I always try to turn off autocorrect, but I think Siri slips one in every now and then. She can’t stand when you won’t let her “help.”
Nice. I got the sample set a while back and need to give it a proper wearing but on the initial sniff Night Flower was a winner. Are we becoming scent twins?
Wendysue was BRAVE enough to wear a swath of Salome the first time I met her (at the May Twisted Lily Sniffapalooza event).
The more cumin, the better .
Oh God….and now I will know not to try Salome!
Night Flower was my favorite as well. I have the Kickstarter decant and wonder how it compares with the final commercial version. Barbara is such a nice person and I love her storytelling!
I’ll send some of the retail bottle your way.
I am out of touch with the week’s theme but wearing one of my favorites, Satellite Padparadscha. Nothing else smells quite like it and it’s perfect for fall. I thought my last decant was gone and it’s long discontinued but digging around last week I found a nice big sealed decant, yay for being disorganized or I wouldn’t get little surprises like this, right?
Unexpected blessings FTW!
A delightful scent to find a surprise bonus of…
Scentless atm- woke up with a headache. Coffee helped a little, but still I don’t feel like wearing perfume.
The good news- I received 2 swap packages yesterday from lovely NSTers and I am very excited- I’ve got a lot of goodies to play with
Thank you Robin for organizing a swapmeet!!!!
Feel better!! Coffee always helps
Thank you Clarissa! I am better now. Wearing Iris Nazarena from my Perfume Fairy!
Hope the headache goes away, and glad you liked the swapmeet!
Thank you Robin!
Someone here reminded me of Dzonghka recently, and after wearing it to bed last night and falling in love with it all over again, I’m keeping it going today. Somehow in my memory I’d simplified this one into a more linear incense, but it’s so much more than that, and so beautiful.
ALso, Kusmi violet because we need caffeine as well as peace.
You smell wonderful. Such a great scent.
Two of my most favorite things: Dzongkha and Kusmi violet tea. I am sure it is uplifting your day!
Good morning! As per my usual, no tea here! 44oz Mountain Dew on crushed ice. Already looking forward to bedtime tonight! HA HA HA Rise and shine? I have to rise, but not shining just yet!
Parfum de la journée: Very Estee. Elegant and sophisticated, even I’m not quite there myself… The day is young! Onward! Forward!
44oz, really? That is a lot of Mountain Dew!
Most everyday! It’s a terrible habit, but it keeps me going. One day I’ll give it up….but not today!
I’m wearing my favorite vintage Shalimar EdT, perfect for fall. Might have to get out the Amouage Homage Attar on Friday. Can also rely on a fresh and foresty vetiver cologne made by a very special perfume friend.
do elaborate on the “foresty vetiver cologne”….I am intrigued!
I think I’d better leave it to the creator of this natural cologne to elaborate if she wants to, but I’ll say that I have a lot of vetivers (if I include samples), and this is the most peaceful and contemplative.
lol! I just happened to be reading today and saw this (procrastinating doing some work).
Chocolatemarzipan, she’s referring to me. I’m a therapeutic aromatherapist but dabble once in a while with perfume blends. L. asked me make a vetiver one for her.
Notes are: bay, rose, Egyptian lotus, Atlas cedar, vanilla and vetiver (lots!) We haven’t named it yet.
I’ve been intrigued with you blends!
Oh my ! that sounds really good! I like the combo of vanilla and vetiver! I love essential oils for their therapeutic properties but also because they smell good…a win win situation!!!
Shalimar is on my list of peaceful scents.. you smell wonderful
I had never thought of it that way before, oddly. To me, this is a new facet of that perfume icon! Glad I’m not the only one, Lovetosmellgood!
Ohhhh, Homage Attar! I have a tiny, wee bit and am always loathe to use it lest I use it up. Gorgeous stuff.
Happy birthday to SRK! He always looks so sad in every movie he’s ever been in. I hope his birthday brings him more cheer than his Bollywood romcoms/romtrages.
I am extremely excited today because I got my Tauer package!!!! Two gorgeous bottles of Rose Delight Oil (I was a hair too late to get the amber oil) and a sample of Au Coeur du Désert. The Rose Oil reminds me powerfully of Rose Flash, which is probably the perfume I’ve used the most since falling down the rabbit hole almost a year ago. ACDD is gorgeous, but I suspect I love LADDM more. I will have to conduct a side-by-side comparison. Also, Andy Tauer is awesome.
I’m too excited for peaceful scents. One wrist has Noontide Petals on it (from before I got my package; all that aldehydic sparkle!), the back of my hand has Rose Delight, and my other wrist has ACDD simmering sultrily away.
You smell great and your enthusiasm is infectious, Koyel.
I was considering Tauer scents for the project also. They aren’t quiet, but they bring the mind into focus as you engage with them. It’s kind of like an olfactory guided meditation.
What a lovely way to put it!
Nice treats! I just got a decant of ACDD and think I prefer it to LADDM slightly since it seems a touch less dry. I haven’t done a side-by-side yet either. I’ll be curious to compare notes!
You’re so right–it’s drier! Thanks for helping me figure out why I loved it less.
Oh wait, I just reread what you said–you think LADDM is drier! I think precisely the opposite. Hmmmmm.
By less dry I mean more resinous/balsamic rather than sweeter, although the drydown does seem a touch sweeter. LADDM is very arid to me, almost dusty.
I tested it yesterday and that was my initial impression as well. (Less dry.)
Congrats! Enjoy your goodies. I just ordered ACDD and the Amber oil, I have and love the Rose oil too.
Ooh, please let us know what you think of the amber oil. I need to know whether to get some of that, too!
Perle de Mousse, which smells more like spring to me, but is equally lovely in autumn.
In Speakeasy by Frapin. Like it, but do not love it.
I have never gone past “extreme like” with a Frapin. They do a nice job though.
Wearing Chinatown body creme as well as a spritz of the perfume, which was probably one spritz too far. Will find out what the office perfume grump has to say about it…
Seems like every office has one.
I’m happy to have found this morning that I no longer get a warning from Chrome when I look up Reductress, a website that has been described as the feminist Onion. It’s not for the faint of heart, but I mention it here because they must have a perfumista on their staff. Behold, “Holiday Candles That Smell Just Like Your Years as a Feral Child of the Forest”
The title alone makes me laugh!
The also had an advice post on “What to do when your cubicle mate’s perfume attracts badgers.”
Too funny! I was smelling candles the other day and thought some were made to light if you wanted to get rid of your date or guests.
Hah, that’s actually a great idea! As long as there is an antidote you can spray after they all leave.
What a great find, thanks!
SOTD – Bangay. Fairly linear scent. longevity – 12+ hours, spillage and projection – monolithic
I first read that As “Bengay” (as in the ointment for relief of arthtitis/joint pain)! I’m sure you smell much better than that ????
I think mals read it as Bengay too!!
Aw man. Hope the achy goes away. (I had a knot in my shoulder last night that took some serious massage from both the husband and the 15-year-old to relieve. Had to use one of my “good for one back rub” coupons I got as a Christmas gift from Taz, but it was So Worth It.)
And you want to watch that “spillage” – don’t disrespect the ‘fume. We need an autocorrect glossary, just for laughs!
Awww. I actually like the smell of topical pain relievers. If that’s your SOTD hope it’s helping.
I meant to say Bangay. I took a fall down the stairs in the morning(it has been a challenging week and of some on. Whatever fragrance I used got suffocated by it
I need an intervention! I have been on a caramel apple kick for over two weeks and I just can’t stop! And a big BOOOO! to Kraft because they stopped putting popsicle sticks in the bag of caramels. Now have to go to Micheals and buy craft sticks…
On the perfume front, I’m wearing FM Musc Ravageur. Spicy good peacefulness! For auditory peace, I love this song by my all time favorite singer/songwriter, Mark Lanegan. Although this is a cover of a Chelsea Wolfe song, I love it better than the original.
Peace Out, Perfume pals✌????️
But at least there is apple with the caramel!! And you have to walk into Michael’s. Yum.
Plenty of fiber, for sure!
1) To go along with the peace theme, am in a spritz of Breath of God. This is gorgeous.
2) Also, yesterday I dropped off my ballot and refuse to listen to anymore streaming radio nor read the newspaper. Que Sera, sera.
3) Breakfast is a biscuit stuffed with spinach, mushrooms, and bacon along with a homemade almond milk coffee. Peacefully (if a bit too much) full- I feel like Buddha, even.
Amen. Hallmark Channel is the big winner in this election season.
OMG, seriously! And now the holiday movies are starting, which makes me *squee*
Also, HGTV. I’m a big fan of of Chip and Joanna!
Oh, yes! I have so many (good and affordable) from those shows!
Had forgotten about Breath of God. It is an amazing scent.
Going all out Guerlain with Apres l’Ondee this morning, Mon Precieux Nectar for late in the day, and Cologne du 68 for intermittent spritzing. I find all of these scents peaceful and relaxing. It will be fun to see if they scents get along or clash. And they are decants so I’m in a race against evaporation to use ’em or lose ’em. I vote for use generously.
Have a wonderful Wednesday, dear NST. You smell fabulous.
I vote for generous usage as well (which is what I have recently been doing with all samples and decants!)
Liberal fragrance application for the win!
I found that the three Guerlains play nicely together throughout the day. Another win.
Nice! i am all for layering!
It was a tough choice for today. I wanted to wear the Shiseido Feminite du Bois again but Une Rose Vermeille was speaking to me.
You smell gorgeous. I love URV.
Keeping things light and cool with L’occitane’s Iris Bleu & Iris Blanc.
I am wearing Coromandel edt from the splitmeet, loving it a lot.
Wearing Calligraphy Rose…spoils from the swapmeet…
It is really super lovely. Perfect over Rose Jam shower gel. A spicy rose I believe targeted to the Middle East market. It is from Aramis which I know is an offshoot of Lauder but I didn’t know they were still churning stuff out…and very good stuff at that.
I also got sime in the swap and really like it!
Good to hear. I’ve had some manufacturer’s samples in my ebay cart for a few months. I should go ahead and pick them up.
Wow, Wednesday already.
3rd peaceful perfume of the week and SOTD is Baruti “Melkmeisje”. Notes are: Pear, Lilac, Linden blossom, Honey, Orris root, Vanilla, Vetiver, Sandalwood, Musk.
I didn’t like how this went on (something smelled ‘dirty’ and I wondered was it Costus, although it’s not a listed note). Very quickly that went away and I enjoyed a scent that now seemed to me to be iris-centered (again, most reviewers pick out other notes). And two hours later it was a skin scent only, albeit a very pleasant one, which I personally have no use for.
So, for me it’s no match for Indigo (which I got a FB of after testing earlier in the year), but I could easily imagine other NST folk loving this one. :^)
I liked it in reverse order from you. I enjoyed the initial stage-smelled more like a lavender, pear, and chammomile stew which I foynd pleasant. The dydown smelled like sawdust, not so pleasant.
So between the two of us we have 1 great perfume and one foul stew. :^)
I wasn’t aware that it was a “theme” week (I thought that was just for Fridays). I felt like wearing an iris scent today and grabbed and sprayed Naomi Goodsir’s Iris Cendre.
It’s really just the Friday challenge spilling over into the rest of the week. Not compulsory or even official but sometimes makes choosing a scent easier.
Just what Mikasminion said — many people do the theme all week or part of the week. No need to, and no need to even do it on Friday.
Here’s a fascinating way to peace out: you can listen to the ambient music produced by a sound tracker of Wikipedia editing:
What are the various tones assigned to? And note durations? I could not figure out
Oh wow. This is awesome.
From the site: “Listen to the sound of Wikipedia’s recent changes feed. Bells indicate additions and string plucks indicate subtractions. Pitch changes according to the size of the edit; the larger the edit, the deeper the note. Green circles show edits from unregistered contributors, and purple circles mark edits performed by automated bots. You may see announcements for new users as they join the site, punctuated by a string swell. You can welcome him or her by clicking the blue banner and adding a note on their talk page.”
Woke to heavy fog, the neighborhood looked like Sleepy Hollow. Finally was in the mood for Bois d’Argent.
Taking it easy today after planting 90 (!) pansies in the front yard yesterday. Have a wonderful day, everyone.
Oh, the combo of fog and pansies sounds wonderful! Add a dash of Bois d’Argent, and what more does one need? ????
I love pansies. However, in contrast to your 90 (!) I planted one yesterday, in the center of the pot underneath my mailbox. It just needed a punch of color.
I love the smiling faces on pansies
I took the day off, because hopefully today is the day the plumbing issues are resolved. I’m wearing Coco, because it is strong and comforting.
Wow, I hope it finally is fixed today.
Very good luck to you!
Good luck with the plumbing. You smell fabulous!
My SOTD is Vol de Nuit EDT from a STC sample. Since it is unseasonaly warm today, I decided to go with a floral. This is the strangest fall in recent memory.
It really is! I have a stone house that takes awhile to adjust to outside temps, so it’s warm outside but inside I’m still in my heavy sweater.
Your house sounds very picturesque.
You smell great!
Today I am wearing Shanghai Lily, trying to decide if I should spring for a full bottle during Sephora’s 20% off VIB sale this weekend … it’s also my birthday month so there is extra incentive
That is probably my most favorite lily if not floral fragrance. Spicy and deep, really beautiful. My only hesitation in buying a full bottle (for me, personally) is that I find it fairly strong – I don’t think I’d ever get through a full bottle. Especially as I have (ahem) “a few” other bottles as well.
Is that this weekend? Hey, if you can save 20%,and it’s your birthday, you really have no choice….
I think VIB Rouge is the 4th-7th and VIB is 11th-14th.
I’ve not gotten any notice on VIB weekend yet.
Thank goodness for the 20%. I have a few items I need and am waiting. Haven’t gotten notice yet, but I will start looking for it.
Wore that yesterday. You smell great! If I were going to buy a TF it would be this one.
Chanel 31 Rue Cambon today thanks to a swapmeet partner. When I first tried it several years ago, I found the patchouli too strong on me. People here have shown it so much love, that I just had to retry. Today it’s soft, inviting and complex. Really liking it.
As one NSTer said to me, 31 RC is a ride!
You smell fantastic!
I didn’t love it either, but I should probably use up the last of my decant before it’s gone and see if I have a change of heart. Or not. Maybe it’s best left in my memory of things I don’t love or need.
Jasmin et Cigarette today, because I need to feel/smell poised – I’m leading a seminar discussion section today. The students are a good bunch, but I’ve never been responsible for such a lengthy, free-wheeling class meeting and I’m a little nervous.
Thanks for reminding us about SRK’s birthday, Robin! I’ll take any excuse to re-watch “Dard E Disco” (although he’s not my favorite Khan, the song and video are hilarious).
Hope the seminar went well! (I should watch the whole movie again, haven’t seen it in years)
Artemisia by Penhaligon for my day two of peaceful scents. This one is a powder puff of violet, vanilla and musk. Quite nice, and quite peaceful.
Could not have picked a better week to focus on peaceful types of scents with folks hitting the polls now and into next week.
exactly..good timing for this, not sure if it was Robin’s intention but I agree!
I figured it would be the perfect week for it — and great suggestion!
I’ve been wearing my “keep calm and peace to all” scent for 2 weeks now, sandalo nobile
Not very peaceful today… Alamut by Lorenzo Villoresi. A birthday bottle from September. Maybe I’ll spend next two days in vanilla scents. But fresh florals are peaceful to me also.
L’eau D’hiver. So peaceful I can’t smell it.
This one is one of my top 10, but it is subtle if certain notes don’t resonate with you.
And, it is now my SOTD – thank you for the reminder.
Finally using Tea for Two. Tested it a bunch of times before and it was just all smoke. The smokiest lapsang souchong, and while some might love that, it was just too much for me. Found a 50ml bottle at a great discount online and thought why not. I don’t know what it is, change in my chemistry or something rather but now it smells like the most delicious and comforting chai but surprisingly and beautifully ethereal. Love.
I had the same experience with Tea for Two, pretty much exactly. I remember smelling it in a shop and thinking it smelled like barbecue smoke. Then some L’Artisans came up for sale on Haute Look and I got that and Timbuktu. And the bottle of Tea for Two I got smells like chai and not particularly smoky at all. I suspect it was reformulated at some point.
If it did get reformulated then I’m glad the reformulation works on me
I am also wearing Tea for Two! It smells especially cinnamon-y today.
I read somewhere that Tea for Two layers beautifully with tuberose fragrances. I’m intrigued! Looking forward to testing that out with Carnal Flower
Home with a squiffy belly and a pounding head, so commando for now. Hoping to feel up to something smooth and mellow later in the day.
Feel better soon!
I hope you’re feeling better!
Hope you’re up and sniffing soon.
I’m in Tauerville Rose Flash today
Cuir de Lancome for me today. I smell yummy.
Yes you do.
After a week of almost mid-winter cold, it is a beautiful warm sunny day in Toronto with the trees covered in the last of the fall colours. True Fall! What to wear after being cold and then warm. Summer fragrances are at the back of the cabinet. I chose Angel, warm and sunny.
Enjoy it while you can!
In Khol de Bahrein this morning, although I was planning to wear something else. I might change later, this is smelling really fruity (although there is no fruit listed in the notes).
I’m not looking forward to the time change here in the US this weekend, it always throws me off, especially mealtimes. Eating lunch at 11? No thanks, but my stomach starts growling anyway.
Funny, I can’ t wait to fall back. It’s springing forward that always knocks me for a loop. I feel under water for weeks while my body clock adjusts to the spring time change. Even though I prefer the fall time change, I’m dreading that it will be dark at 5 PM.
Me too Petunia. Fall back doesn’t bother me at all (except for the early darkness). Spring forward, on the other hand, wreaks havoc with my mind & body.
24 Faubourg for me today. It’s a gloriously sunny morning here, not warm, but at least it looks like spring!
Love 24 Faubourg! You smell great!
I love love love 24 Faubourg. The scent is gorgeous. I just find it does not have a lot of last power past 2 hours. I almost spritzed that this a.m. but Angel won out.
Just got to San Diego after our annual migration south from Montreal for the winter. Busy packing up all my swap packages! I am wearing the peaceful Tauer Incense Rosé.
Welcome back to California!
you smell great and welcome to the states..
I can wave to you again when I’m at the beach…Pacific gal!
Thanks everyone! Good to be back in the sunshine.
SOTD is Cabochard. It’s a nice scent for a Hump Day. More importantly, I wore it yesterday, and the Cubs won, so I’m not messin’ with the mojo. Can’t wait for tonight–Game 7s are so much fun!
Ha! Hope your team kicks butt!
Continuing with sample testing, which is not playing into the ‘peaceful’ theme. Today’s theme is more along the lines of ‘epic fail’ aka ‘get it off me now now now!’ Apologies to fans of Heeley Bubblegum Chic, Art de Parfum Sea Foam, and Jul et Mad Secrets du Paradis Rouge. But my sample choices seem to be going from bad to worse today. Dare I persevere? DS & Durga White Peacock Lily is up next, and I have to say my history with that line does not supply me with optimism for this sample.
OTOH, TOTD is Taylor’s Afternoon Darjeeling, which is always good.
I tried Sea Foam back in July, and looking at my notes I found it occasionally interesting, occasionally banal, but mostly ‘missing in action’ and not smelling of anything at all. :^)
PG’s Bois Naufrage is a much much better take on the subject of sea saltiness + fig. Says this fig ho’.
Oh dear. White Peacock Lily is an aquatic lily (but not waterlily). With soap. Ack, the sampling fiasco continues….
I didn’t like that one either. They seem to like soapy florals (Poppy Rouge). I’ve given up on that line.
You did not like Jul et Mad? I was going to get samples to test it, but hearing your response, I guess I put my sample funds somewhere else.
A little of last night’s la fumee classic (thanks NST swapper for the decant!) is still on my sweater, and I’ll top it up with something else incense-y later. Good for a sad and rainy day.
I hope winning the Kerosene set cheered you up.
whoa, been behind on my internet idling, thanks for telling me!
Been caught up in something real sad, just checked that post and responded, but it said strict 11 am EST deadline, which would have been 8 am our time, which is long since passed? Unless you get until the next day?
Hope your day improved.
Usually they allow 24 hours for a response. I hope you responded anyway.
Morning all. Last day in Tasmania-that’s bad and good. Please may I encourage anyone who wants to see a clean (very, very clean!), green, beautiful part of the planet to come to Tasmania! I’ve never been anywhere so unlittered, Come in summer, though– it’s as cold here as it is lovely and friendly.
I’m wearing Boy today. I really like it, and it seems to hit the right for our last hike. I’m not sure what I’ll wear for peaceout Friday– maybe I could go to Chanel and see if they would give me a spray of Bois des Iles. Anything with sandalwood seems peaceful to me. Be well, all.
Thank you Waterdragon. I wish it weren’t the other side of the globe it sounds heavenly. On the retirement bucketlist!
Hope to see it someday! Sounds perfectly wonderful.
Hump day+ Shah Ruh Khan seems perfect.Lol.Selling house and settling estate is not fun.Pray people.Pray.SOTD Daisy.I needed pretty and uncomplicated through the ugliness and red tape of wills/estates/moving house.X
Ugh. Sorry you’re having to deal with that.
Sorry it’s so awful, keeping you in mind. Good luck!
Thanks guys.Things are looking up,it’s the schlep of bureaucracy that’s making me fume and froth.x
Fils de Dieu. Which is a definite citrusy ginger- if there is such a thing- on my skin. Needing to try Like This based on all the love it gets on this blog!
Peacing out post-shower in Parfum Sacré with some David’s Nutty and Spice tea.
Not sure if this is new news or not, but when I was loading my Sephora cart in anticipation of the sale, I noticed that the Histoires de Parfums are available in 15 ml travel bottles for $35. Not a bad price at all, especially with 20% off.
Not new but a great deal and I love them for doing that size. I bought 2 of them before I discovered they had them at Sephora online and 20% off would’ve been extra nice.
Peacing out in my ultimate comfort perfume, Caron Pour Un Homme. Plus, used Yves Rocher Lavender Shower Gel and Lush Sleepy Hand and Body lotion. The lavender trifecta! Because no day is complete without Aftelier Ancient Resins, dabbed a wee smidge at my temples.
P.S. Bought more Earl Grey Lavender Tea.
SOTD = Le Labo Vanille 44
Vanilla and incense.
I have a perfect fragrance for Friday but I have not done a proper wearing so don’t know the ideal dosage. Dilemma!
I know…test it on your mother!!
Oooh, if I’m feeling naughty….
