Goop Edition 01 ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 2 November 2016 31 Comments

Goop Edition 01

Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop lifestyle brand will launch Edition 01, the first of four projected seasonal fragrances. Edition 01 is intended to make you "recall sitting by the fire place in a library."

Gorgeous, wintry, mystical, and made with not-one artificial ingredient, goop’s first fragrance will change the way we all think about perfume.

Edition 01 was developed with Douglas Little of Heretic Parfum. The notes feature cypress, frankincense, labdanum, vanilla, clove leaf, juniper and styrax tree bark.

Goop Edition 01 will be $165, size unknown. Update: the matching candle is $72.

I wouldn’t wear anything related to Gwyneth Paltrow even if I was paid to. I truly hate her

I won’t be able to….I can even afford the smoothie ingredients she uses! LOL! :)

She does seem particularly polarizing. I would not go so far as to say I hate her, but I do find the idea that she has a lifestyle brand that actually makes money puzzling.

Ditto…quite puzzling to me as well.

Given that ‘all natural ‘ perfumes aren’t new, and perfumes based on books and fires aren’t new, I wonder how this perfume will change the way we “all” think about perfume. It strikes me as quite a safe bet.

Yes! You put it perfectly. Dude, anyone with a lifestyle brand (whatever this means) should have heard of Mandy Aftel by now.

Perhaps it is new to her audience? Or perhaps it is more amazing than we even know.

maybe you whizz it up in a blender and drink it? That would be new

This. The people willing to buy her products probably are not familiar with most of her pseudo-new takes.

Huh. I don’t dislike her, but I don’t really think about her anymore. I’m wondering who is, enough to want to pounce on her lifestyle products. Also, I live in artisanal heaven (or hell, you can choose) where the streets are paved with all-natural handcrafted soaps and candles. The stuff isn’t cheap, but even the hipsters aren’t charging $165 for a candle.

I assume that price is for the bottle of perfume of unknown volume.

Tom Ford is your go-to guy if you want a $250 candle, didnt think Gwynnie could be charging that much for a candle!

$165 is too high for a natural perfume….which will probably last all of 2 seconds…

Gwyneth Paltrow’s childhood nickname, based on her name when sending notes: G..P
      Thus GOOP.

Squeal! A celebrity scent named after a celebrity I’ve heard of. And had a crush ever since I saw her play Sylvia Plath. :p

The bad thing is that there is no sample! :-( Based on the notes you would need buy on blind faith!

I hope Edition 01 doesn’t “change the way we think about perfume” in the same way that green smoothie cleanses changed the way we feel about juice. ;)

The notes sound interesting. I had no clue that goop is her brand. Anyway, one of my cousins lived in London when Gwyneth was there and my cousin said she was unassuming and down-to-earth and did normal mommy stuff like going to yoga and arranging play dates for Apple. My cousin got to know her well enough for her son to be Apple’s frequent play date friend.

Seems to be lots of negativity due to some health/wellbeing diet or something she authored or popularized! *shrug*

The name Goop is totally off-putting, and I have no warm fuzzy feelings about Gwyneth.

Ok, folks. I’ve tried the juice. Sorry to disappoint the haters, but it is “incroyable et merveilleuse!” I’ve heard and agree that Douglas Little’s fragrances have a Guerlain vibe and this definitely does. It is like a cross between how you remember Mitsouko, high quality “head shop aura” and the original 1980’s fragrance of Nature’s Gate Herbal shampoo. It starts off smelling like a dirty fireplace but hold on! The ashtray experience quickly transitions on the skin into something incredible. True alchemy!!! Dark arts, indeed. Keep hating on Gwyneth if you will. She and Little did something big and gorgeous here.

As much hate as GOOP gets, I have to say their skin products are amazing, so I’m not surprised to hear the fragrance is too. Can I trouble you, since you seem to be the only who’s tried it? Does it wear for longer than an hour or two?

I’m a fan of non-toxis beauty routines, so I used to lather myself in essential oils, but the smell would wear off (on me) in less than two hours. All the notes in this perfume are my regular jam, so I’m inclined to buy…

      Thanks for helping out! x

It is not super long lasting, maybe a couple of hours. But I have to tell you, I am obsessed and addicted in a way I haven’t been for many years and many bottles. Something is going on with this stuff…. I love it!
