Tuesday scent of the day 11/1

Posted by Robin on 1 November 2016 180 Comments

Royal Worcester Wrendale Hare Teapot

Rabbit rabbit rabbit! Welcome to November. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm wearing a drop of vintage Caron Farnesiana. Tea at the moment is Kusmi Zoubrovka.

Reminder: 11/4 will be Peace Out Friday — wear a fragrance that brings / gives peace. Suggested by Lovestosmellgood.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Royal Worcester Wrendale Hare Teapot is £40 at John Lewis.

I keep miscalculating when I should comment on NST, but looks like I’ve gotten it right this time! I wore Commodity Tea today to match the temples and gardens of Kyoto. It’s not among their best, I think, but not offensive either. My sister seemed to enjoy it when she caught a sniff.

Actually, my strongest scent experience so far has been the sickly sweet smell of Tokyo Disneyland (which I otherwise loved – a total surprise). But I hope for more tea and incense in Kyoto ????

Scrubbed shortly after I posted. Will try this again in cooler weather, these mid-80’s temps will be around a couple more days and then highs in the low 70’s, still not normal for November.

Enabler pins to hannahmom and cazaubon. Nothing like spending $$$ on the phone, drinking coffee. Amber oil, rose oil and Au Coeur du Desert, on their way!

The rose oil has been a cool weather favourite here in the soon-to-be-frozen wastelands of rural NE Canada. I cannot wait till the amber arrives. I am already planning what scents to wear with it.

        Hello Gabriela!
It is cold weather here in the USA, and I haven’t even
turned the heat on in the house that makes my skin itchy and dry.
I like to lotion after a shower, but sometimes there is no time.
A fragrance oil is a quick way to moisturize and scent my body when I’m running late. Which is always. LOL
I’m sure you could swap it if you find it doesn’t suit you.
        Cheers !!

Rabbit rabbit rabbit! I LOVE this Friday’s community project. Not only am I stressed out about the future of America, but I am also stressed out about the future of Koyel. I could do with some peace. We all could!

I started out the day with Bombay Bling, which was an enormous blast of a gin-mango cocktail. Just a little while ago, I was thinking about how I can’t wait for my Tauer rose oil to arrive and how I can’t wait to try Au Coeur du Désert, so I put on some Lonesome Rider. I don’t understand how barbecue sauce isn’t listed in the notes. I smell like I took my fancy, expensive leather bag and lovingly smeared its insides with some of that fancy, expensive barbecue sauce you can buy at Whole Foods.

Triplets! There’s been so much Tauer buzz lately that I felt I should wear a Tauer to celebrate the release of his newest scent. However, my confession is that LADDM does not smell good with my chemistry, so I chose Lonesome Rider, which is perfect for me.

I guess Texas is a better fit for me than Morocco? I don’t get any barbecue sauce notes, but I do get a vague conifer deep in the background that makes me purr.

SOTD is Felanilla by PG. My decant was buried in the depths of my vegetable bin in the fridge, which is where I keep most of my perfumes. It was mentioned recently, so I busted it out and I smell wonderful!

Off to the dentist to pay the whopping bill my insurance company declined to pay. UGH!

I’m wearing SL De Profundis. Only have a decant of this one, as I didn’t love it enough to shell out for a full bottle. But I always remember it around All Saints’ day. It’s got something dark and morbid about it. Not sure if peaceful, but it’s got a quietness about it that I like. It’s good to wear De Profundis on a cold day.
It’s dark all the time now that the clocks have gone back. I wish we didn’t have to bugger up our biological clocks twice a year for the uncertain benefit of more daylight. There is exactly the same amount of daylight – not enough.

They went back in the EU on 30 October. I am old enough to remember when that wasn’t coordinated and we were on the same time as Germany for a week or two.

One year I was on a train that just stopped in Mannheim for an hour and the clock stopped with it, so we resumed to arrive on schedule. It tickled me to imagine how they would instantaneously hustle the train an hour down the track for the Spring time change! :^)

I thought Coup de Foudre was gorgeous, but it SUPER annoyed me with the way that the sillage shrank after an hour. (I just generally hate that “first it’s loud, then it’s quiet” effect wherever it comes up, makes it hard to dose and I don’t like to keep spritzing. I got rid of a bottle of Guerlain Voile d’Ete because it did that, even though I thought it smelled great. MAN, just either radiate, or don’t! I don’t know how much to wear!)

I recently got a decant of this one–just before Portia wrote a review on Perfume Posse! Must be something in the air. When I tried it out of a tiny sample, I got leather and flowers. The decant is much dryer. Not sure if it’s an age issue or dosage. Will keep trying.

I will say that the sprayer on the bottle dispenses an extremely fine mist, and it does come across as a rather dry scent – not sure now whether that’s indicative of the sprayer or the formulation itself. I love the dryness, myself, being prone to bursting into damp hormonal flames lately. :)

I was just at a Nordstrom’s and so sniffing TF and I have to say that although pricey, a lot of them are really really good. I have a crush on Cafe Rose at the moment, but didn’t buy it. Just ordered a small decant to see if I want to take the plunge.

I like a bunch of them for about an hour. I found that some just fell really flat after that or had a dry down I didn’t like. I liked Cafe Rose which seemed to stay the same all the way through.

This sounds right. I like Cafe Rose because it got better and better over time. Neroli Portofino doesn’t develop, but stays nice. Others haven’t gotten a full workout! And the new Vert group is sadly doing nothing for me.

SOTD and 2nd ‘peaceful perfume’ of the week is Grossmith “Amelia”, which smells lovely going on (although too feminine for my tastes) but has no lasting power. I’ll need to dose myself with something else for the afternoon.

    Top: Neroli and Osmanthus;
    Mid: Rose, Peony, Jasmine, and Amber;
Base: Patchouli, Sandalwood, Vetiver and Cashmere Musks.

    1) Will be constructing a memorial for my mom and sister today. Nothing fancy, candles and flowers around my Mary.

    2) In JM Oud and Bergamont (from a sample). A light incens-y scent with citrus and powder. Refreshing and very layerable but Belle Du Soir (RIP) does this better.

I agree with this idea completely! I have a gold bangle that says “momento mori” and silver one that says “ars moriendi.” Everyday I say a little prayer for the people I have loved and lost. Some think its morbid, but to me, its a life affirming and respectful way on acknowledging those who have gone before me. Memories are really the only proof we have that our loved ones actually lived and walked the earth. I find this habit very life affirming and respectful.

Borneo is a toughie :( There is a dude on basenotes splitting it (no affiliation whatsoever) at about $4 per ml, I am debating getting that one and some of the other bell jar decants… It almost feels like a travesty to get Uncle Serge in a decant, bit those bell jars are so out of my price range….

We did not get any either – we live on a very dimly lit street. However, there are a few blocks in our little town that get all the trick-o-treaters. People living there put up major productions – there is a dude who works at Pixar, so his house was Gotham city 2 years ago, Jurassic park last year and Star Wars this year. The house was decorated like one of the planets, with all the characters present (storm troopers, sand troopers, Chubaka, Darth Vader, etc etc – I do not know all the characters there), smoke, music – it was a production. My son who is a fan did not want to leave the place.

Still slightly migraining so I’m just wearing Andy Tauer’s rose oil, which is soothing. Anyone of you already received the amber oil and if yes, what is it like?
I also smell faintly of vintage Emeraude, I found an enormous decanter bottle for a very good price. The previous owner sent the juice in a separate bottle to make sure no leaking would occur, and it didn’t, but I had to pour it back in its original bottle. All went well, just a minute drop was spilled on my hand.
    It smells lovely.

Morning, NST. My posts are always late, because my early morning today is mid-afternoon yesterday for most of you, and of course while I’m in Oz, I’m 2 hours later than usual. I missed Halloween completely–it seems even less remarked here than at home; All Saints likewise went by me without my noticing. I’ve finally surfaced into the week and it’s just a plain Wednesday now. We’re in Hobart, about to make our way back to lovely Launceston, and from there, late tomorrow afternoon, to Melbourne. I’ve loved everything about Tasmania, but won’t be sorry to go to the mainland, simply because I’m tired of packing and moving on every day. Continuing with my Chanel fortnight, I am wearing the new number 5 L’Eau. It’s lovely for travelling: unobtrusively pretty, undemanding, fresh, combines well (oddly enough) with the pervasive smell of eucalypts, honeysuckle and sea. I don’t think I’ll buy it for myself, just because there are other things I want more, but it would be a brilliant “gateway ” gift for someone starting out. I’m thinking of my great niece, turning 15 in January, very feminine in a tomboy-ish way. I gave her Noa a year or so back: I’m thinking L’Eau could be her first “grown up” scent. I love being a great aunt!

Goodness, what a lot of writing about nothing much at all! My inner Waterdragon is drivelling! I think I’m missing you guys….

Unfortunately there’s a note that I also find in some other scents that I don’t like. I think its the Iso Super? It doesn’t seem to bother me in some perfumes, so maybe its the amount.
