Happy Monday, and happy United Nations Day! (In the US, it's also Food Day. Do eat some food.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Etat Libre d'Orange Like This.
Reminder: 10/28 will be Treat Friday — wear a fragrance that reminds you of candy. Suggested by Happy888cat.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I employed the “hajusuuri method” this morning….misting the air with Rhubarb Ecarlate at home and walking through it and misting the air with Hanbury at work and walking through it (and a nod of gratitude to H and h for these beauties!) and both large samples are now drained…
In my quest to minimalize my possessions I am now taking a new approach to my perfumes and spraying/dousing with reckless abandonment in order to fully experience and appreciate them…no more using sparingly and saving for future reference for most of the samples I would not be able to afford in full bottle anyway! I am working my way through samples and decants in this fashion and will then move on to my full bottles.
Spraying with reckless abandonment is the ONLY way to go! I’ve got an atomiser and I’m not afraid to use it…
LOL! I love it because I can actually smell myself rather than having to furiously huff my wrists!
I am doing the same these days. Spraying with abandonment, so I reduce the amount of fragrances, especially full bottles, that I have.
I hear you!
I want to enjoy what I have and not be so miserly about it….
Seven thumbs up.
🙂
That is a great strategy, I should do the same and I love Rhubarbe ecarlate.
I knew I spelled that one wrong 🙂 !!
Oh and later after an important meeting I am going to top myself off with Pulp…just because!!!
I’m a huge advocate of reckless abandon.
🙂 !
I also upvote spraying with reckless abandon! I have also recently stopped rationing out my samples in order to “keep them as reference samples”. I’m not running a museum, and I get more out of the scents when I apply more.
agreed…I am enjoying everything better when applied more!
Good plan! I’m also on a quest to try and reduce my bottles and samples. I liked the days when I could remember exactly what I had…
I know what you mean 🙂 !!!
Yeah, no sense encouraging the impression of dementia. 🙂
Then you will smell like royalty- trailing an aura of scent behind you, making people turn their heads with pleasure!
And right now on top of everything else is a hefty dose of Pulp!
actually I have gotten more comments today for actually wearing make-up (which is a rarity that only occurs when I have important meetings)…makes me wonder how I am viewed when I am NOT wearing make-up-LOL!
Oof! Glorious!
And no doubt- people think you look FINE. It just depends on your trade- sometimes people just don’t expect makeup day to day!
I am at the age where I no longer care what people expect of me on a daily basis…but sometimes one really does have to “clean up” a bit and not be so lazy in the morning (which is what I usually am!)
I’m a big believer in reckless abandon!! I plan to use up every last drop, so I will have to live another 50 years or so…..
LOL! I am old so I guess I will be buried with my leftover juice?
I fully agree with this approach. Life is very short, enjoy it now!
I am definitely doing that! Huffing my wrists where the last of my Pulp is living right now !
🙂 And this is why some of my samples could be anywhere up to (usually) around 100 mLs.
Too funny!!!!
SOTD is Bacarrat Rouge 540 (MFK).
You smell fantastic!
Hello, NST. I am EXCEEDINGLY grumpy this afternoon and have been dying for America to wake up so that NST can cheer me up. I’ve battled for much of today with a stupid hotel in Barcelona (where I’ll be going for a conference in a few weeks) with a payment system crappy enough that I’m starting to wonder if I really do trust them with my money. First their system wouldn’t accept a card; then their system overcharged my card while continuing to say online that I hadn’t paid anything at all. Also, apparently half an hour to them is > 1.5 h, so I keep having to call them. Grump grump grump.
I’m wearing the spectacularly gorgeous Larmes du Désert, but even that can’t cheer me up. Gahhhhh this is so frustrating! I hope to have this resolved before the end of the workday today. Cross your fingers for me, please.
The world is run by inefficient systems, which drives me up a WALL! I feel your pain and sorry you are having to deal with this. There is no escape these days. The best thing is to just keep jumping through the hoops…
So true (and add to that inept people running said systems.) It amazes me sometimes that anything gets done.
Hope your situation gets resolved soon, K.
Good luck with the hotel and I hope your day improves.
Good luck koyel, I understand- I’m battling vodaphone at the moment, and just wasting so much time going round in circles, it’s incredibly disheartening!
Arghh. Frustrating. I’ve had a few of those situations myself recently and they’re such a waste if time and energy.
Larmes du Désert is a lovely name for a fragrance. French language perfume names, and the imagery they bring to mind, tend to make me swoon. I’m imagining you smell fabulous. Hope your day is trending upward. 🙂
The truth of the matter is that you really don’t pay until you check out, so as long as you’ve got confirmation of your stay you can deal with the final payment onsite.
I’d love to be in your shoes anticipating a trip to the great city of Barcelona in a few weeks. Last I was there was in ’08 and it was fantastic on every level.
I would be seriously tempted to tell them “i’ll be staying in a different hotel then” but they probably don’t care.
I wish I could, but it says it’s nonrefundable, so I don’t know if it would work…. Ugh.
If it’s a credit card you should be able to call your credit card company and dispute the charge, I think. I’m so sorry for the tribulations!
Maybe you’re staying at the same botel I stayed at when I was there in July. Thank goodness all the charges went to my sister’s loyalty rewards program credit card because had they used mine, my card would have been cancelled because the billing nme would be wrong and they would have kept trying until the credit card company cuts it off. They mixed up my Middle Name (made it my First Name) and my First Name became my Last Name. This was a business hotel and they took my name off of my U.S. Passport which I am sure they’ve seen hundreds of thousands of times before.
Ugh. Out of curiosity, what was yours called? It would be funny if it really were the same hotel.
NH Collection Barcelona Constanza. I’ve stayed at the NH Collection Madrid Prado but I did not deal with payments.
Whew, not the same. Let’s see how mine resolves!
Thanks all 🙂 I feel better–not because they’ve fixed the issues, but because I’ve got a great bottle of beer in front of me now!
Sometimes its just the day, Koyel. You may wake up tomorrow and everything will go so smoothly you’ll wonder what all the fuss was. Fingers crossed!
Hoping for the best for you tomorrow!
I am THE NOIR 29 for this beautiful day
This a treat for me since I love tea and find any time to have tea (in peace) are real treat. That is few and far between!
Did some major shopping this weekend and sporting a new outfit today. Black wide leg flowey pants and a olive boat neck flowey shirt.
Is it smoky at all? Im on a mission to find a great non-smoky black tea fragrance!
For me it was not smoky, but neither was it very black tea like.
not smokey at all, you should try it
But I don’t mind drinking smokey tea 😉
Love the outfit. Two things I really like: wide leg pants and boat neck tops!
the top was 15 and the bottoms were 20=cheap and chic outfit
I’m starting off treat week with the orange chocolate sorbet that is the 2008 limited edition Ultrared by Paco Rabanne. Blood orange, praline, tonka, vanilla and patchouli. Pass me a spoon…
Sounds devine. In the ’80s my favorite ice cream was dark chocolate orange sherbet. Too bad they stopped making it
Ooh. I think we should start a campaign to bring it back…
Dark chocolate orange sherbet? Really? I don’t think I’ve ever even seen chocolate sherbet. Sherbet has always been, in my mind, for fruit flavors. I’d love to try this.
And speaking of chocolate & orange, I just passed to santa my desire for Afterlier’s Cacao perfume. Pretty please santa!
Oooh! I might have to pick up a bit of this myself!
Oh gosh, Baskin Robbins had something like this in the 80s – my favorite. It was amazing.
That is the one I was thinking about. I think it was called something like Mandarin Chocolate Sherbet. It wasn’t really a sherbet, and it didn’t look chocolate at all, but black the way a licorice ice cream might look. But it tasted divine.
I am still lamenting the discontinuation of Ben & Jerry’s Dastardly Mash. It was chocolate-based with chunks of just about everything in it, plus raisins. The raisins are what made it. No mas.
Oh yum!!! I would love to be near you as you smell delicious!
Oo, I actually was trying to combine orange and chocolate by layering various perfumes, but I did not manage to obtain my dream scent…I should try this, if I can find it anywhere… Frapin 1270 is kind of that, but it adds a heavy (and delicious) doze of booze, and I once in a blue moon just wanted something suitable for children 🙂 Any more ideas, anybody?
I remember getting that vibe when I layered Bigarade Concentree with Cuir Beluga. (I was having fun on a Cuir Beluga layering streak!) It reminded me of those orange shaped candies that come out at the holidays. Can’t remember the brand name though…..????
You ahould try Philosophy Fresh Cream with Atelier Cologne Orange Samguine. Or for more oooomph, iIndult Tihota with Orange Sanguine or even Atelier Cologne Mandarin Glace. Actually, for a fuller orange, use Guerlain Mandarine Basilic but you would need a creamier vanilla or spray Fresh Cream with abandon and then a litle spritz of Mandarin Basilic.
Thanks to a generous fragrance friend I recently tried Blood Orange Chocolat from Note Fragrances. I never thought I’d like a scent with a chocolate note, but I’m slowly being won over. Orange and chocolate make a very appealing scent combination, perhaps a perfect choice for Friday’s community project.
How is this one? Do tell?? My concern is that it’s too sweet vs. allowing the notes to really shine.
Blood Orange Chocolat has a lot of sugar to it, definitely sweet, but it is not giving me a toothache (nor a headache). I can smell orange and maybe honey, then the chocolate sort of reins in the sugar a little bit. Hope that helps.
hmm… may have to sample
thanks!
Sounds like a delicious treat!
SOTD is Zoologist Panda: bamboo, citrus, and some mildly sweet floral. Very cheerful.
I am drinking some MF Morning Tea with a bit of almond milk.
The Zoologist scents are so appealing to me. I’ve tried Bat, and it really made an impression. Sounds like Panda is worth sampling, too.
It’s grey and cold (ish) in the Low Countries, so I’m wearing Ambre Cashmere Intense. It’s lovely and soft and is helping me to keep warm.
Such a beautiful scent. You smell great!
Is ’67 your birth year? It is mine, so in that case, that’s another thing we share.
Around this time of year I always find myself in a bit of shock, wondering how it could possibly get any colder and how I’ll possibly survive. Yet it does, and I do. Warm, cozy perfume helps.
Well it doesn’t even get that cold here anymore, but I seem to be struggling this year. Still I’ll get used to it, I always have so far.
Where I am, the last few winters have been startlingly mild. I’m hoping the trend holds.
I’m wearing Florabellio.
Do you like it?
It is supposed to have a coffee note that I’m not getting. The salty marine notes are drowning out everything else. I love the smell of coffee, although I can’t stand the taste, so I am rather disappointed. I think this one would be good for summer though.
Try By Killian Intoxicated for a great coffee note.
I found the notes in this to create a very odd scent. It was just like nothing I’ve smelled before but not in a good way and yet not in a bad way.
The coffee is there but very mild.
I am wearing 10 Corso Como. Very lovely. Lots of sandalwood (sigh), rose, woods. Pretty, but unfortunately it is very fleeting. No more than 2 hours on me.
Oh dear, it lasts much longer than that on me! Or used to, have not tried a new version.
I tried it first a while ago and found it very faint and short lived, but tried it this past Saturday and I was surprised that it was heftier and longer lasting than I remembered. Maybe they changed the formula?
I got it a couple of months ago, so I guess this is a reformulation. Maybe that is why.
Wow, 10CC has nuclear strength and duration on me. My bottle is just from last year.
Lucky you! My skin eats scents very fast most of the time.
I usually put on a good five sprays, but once I do, it sticks with me all day 🙂 Happily!
I will try more than 2 sprays, but I usually have problems with sandalwood. It suffocates me easily with its soapy feeling. I have to spray carefully 🙁
Beautiful and breezy day here and I’m wearing Caron Piu Belloodgia.
Jealous of your weather!
The weather here is starting to get very pretty. Our summers are brutal here, but autumn sure is nice ☺
Like Kotex above, I have been dealing with inefficient systems, going round and round trying to sign up for one single class, that as an alumni, is uber cheap. Password changes, calls to IT, cursing under my breath, all to no avail…still cannot access to sign up for class. Ugh!!
SOTD is the seasonally appropriate and beautifully spiced PG Indochine. Love this stuff!
Omg! Spell check, STOP! That’s supposed to be “KOYEL”!!
And I thought you wrote that as a joke since Koyel says she is in a grumpy mood-LOL!!!! Oh goodness, I needed that good laugh this Monday morning!!!!
That would’ve been so mean!!
Not amongst good friends…:)
Good point 🙂
I LOL’ed 😀
Thanks (to you and your spellcheck) for giving me a smile this morning.
😀
😀 😀
AHAHAhahahahaha!
Hahahahahaha this is hilarious! I’ve never seen that one before!
LOL, you’ve officially topped Cuirass. Passing the baton to Deva!
Master, I am not worthy ????
???? That wins the autocorrect award! And you smell great.
Oh my goodness, I laughed so hard just now when I read “like Kotex above”. I figured it had to be an auto correct thing
Autocorrect: 1. Deva: Zero. HA HA HA HA
LOL! When I saw that I just figured Kotex must be from outside the US, maybe not familiar with the brand and choose that name.
For all I know there’s more than one definition of it.
I just about snorted out my tea in a most inelegant manner. Thanks spell-checker for making Monday entertaining!
And the CEO of IBM was on tv this morning touting artificial intelligence as our future’s savior. Looks like we’ve got a ways to go.
lolol!
One hundred thousand pardons for mentioning feminine hygiene products! Thank you all for your delightful responses. Spell check and I have “had words,” and sadly, I have come out the loser. Koyel, I’m sure your name means quite a lot to you, (although I have to admit, I’m going to have to look it up) and so sorry for butchering it. Have a wonderful night all✌????️
Deva, life is too short to not see the humor in everything…thanks for making us all laugh and I am sure Koyel realizes that it truly was NOT at her expense….we can blame spellcheck on the butchering job 🙂
Oh Deva, absolutely no offense taken. That was hilarious! “Koyel” is a Bengali songbird 🙂 (Also see “kokil” or “koel”)
Thanks for the laugh Deva. Your spell checker is naughty!
And you smell great!
I’m wearing Hiram Green Shangri La and to celebrate the Food Day, I’m trying to scoop out the marshmallow from a Starbuck’s Witch’s Hat as I don’t like the chocolate they are using that much. I’m one classy lady.
“I’m one classy lady” ….y’all are really making me laugh this Monday morning…thankfully I am alone in the office because between you and Deva I am literally laughing out loud 🙂
While I don’t really know what a Starbuck’s Witch’s Hat is, I can sort see a picture of it in my head. It reminds me of my own fondness for finishing sorbets using a straw to the very last drop, even if that causes rather unwanted noises. Especially in posh restaurants.
I’m a good to the last “bubble” person and end up slurping noises to suck up any stubborn bubble in my bubble tea. For revenge, some of the bubbles aim for not being chewed and goes right down my throat!
and now I want to try bubble tea!
SOTD is YSL Cinéma (and I just figured out how to do accented letters on my computer – please don’t tell me I got it backwards!). Happy Monday, all.
Oh, can you share? I usually just don’t worry about anything that is not right on the keyboard, but if somebody told me…
Mac or Windows? They do it differently.
windows
Here is one reference:
http://symbolcodes.tlt.psu.edu/accents/codeword.html
FYI to Apple users, if you hold down the letter key (e, for example) a menu pops up with a range of possible diacritical-ized e’s, and you click on the one you want.
Mine is a Mac, and you described exactly how it works. I use a windows system at work, though, and am going to investigate your link for when I’m there – thanks!
THANK YOU!!!!!
Nope you got it right, it’s an accent aigu.
Thanks austenfan – I knew you’d know! 🙂
Mmmm love Cinéma (and no, I haven’t figured out how to type accents; I just copy and paste 🙂 )
😀
That’s what I usually do, actually, because I don’t know French and can’t remember which diacriticals go where. 😉
I had to learn all those before moving to France 🙂
Un Bois Vanille, a soft warm sweet tawny glow, the most accessible scent Serge Lutens ever made and possibly the most beautiful.
You smell fantastic!
It is a beautiful scent – I need to add it to my fall rotation.
Oh, that one is so, so deeply pretty!
Um, the most beautiful SL is La Myrrhe. 😉 (Okay, so I’m biased. And honestly not much of a Serge fan.) But UBV is more wearable, and maybe the most approachable and attractive of the lot.
I need to try that one…
Mmm, love Like This!
Wearing MFK Baccarat Rouge. Pretty, I even like the sheerness (there’s a time and a place)…. but I think more saltiness would make it more interesting. Maybe it’s time I put those *100* pipettes I accidentally ordered to good use and start mixing my own concoctions. With the wedding over, I REALLY need a new project to keep my mind busy
Ha! I’ve done that by accidentally clicking on ” frequently bought together” and ended up with more cat toys than I wanted.
Twins of scent (and thought). Just got this in a swap, and I don’t mid the sweetness or sheerness, as they are well done but a bit of salt or smoke would suit me just fine.
SOTD is SL Bois et Fruits – delicious cedar and tart fruits. I like it even better than FdB.
SOTD Lush Soft Coeur massage bar used as lotion layered with Coromandel. I seriously love that massage bar- I highly recommend it to chocolate lovers. The SA in the store told me it was “lickable” meaning one could ingest it if one were into that sort if thing. Of course I had to give it a lick but it has no taste.
Yum, I love it too!
They mention it’s lickable because of possible sexy times with the massage bar *waggles eyebrows* But usually cocoa butter has no real flavor!
I’d think they would have flavored it for such activities.
Wearing Slumberhouse Ore. When I just started “down the rabbit hall”, i was on a mission to challenge my nose, now I am in a phase that I want to wear only scents that are immediately attractive to me…except different scents are immediately attractive to me now. Will there be another go-round, I wonder?
I just tried Ore for the first time and really like it.
I’ve learned that when I feel my preferences changing, store, don’t swap. Not forever, maybe 2 or 3 years. At least for me, preference seems to be cyclical.
L’air d’Rien today. First day of half term, and being lazy after an intensive short course over the weekend, which was really energising, but after dinner and wine with neighbours last night, I’m feeling rather frazzled.
Wow, sounds like you need a spa day. 🙂
Sorry to post and run, but busy busy at work today. SOTD is the ever gorgeous vintage Bal a Versailles. Cheers!!
Vintage Bal is drop dead gorgeous isn’t it? Which version are you wearing? PdT? EDT or the parfum version?
cheers
Alas!!! In the mayhem that is sometimes Monday morning at my house, I walked right past the perfume and ran out the door!!! 🙂
But I have baby pink nail polish with a glow-in-the-dark glittery top coat…..Does that count for anything? HA HA
Smelly review: Blind bought a bottle of SJP’s Lovely Sheer. The original Lovely was one of the very 1st perfumes I bought when I started collecting scents, and I still love it. Lovely Sheer is exactly what I hoped….a light, daytime/office appropriate version of the original. Only bummer is longevity. 2 hours and it’s completely gone. But it’s extremely inexpensive, so I guess I can live with reapplying as needed……
I used to love that version of Lovely especially during the spring/summer until I rediscovered eau de Cologne.
That nail polish combo sounds like Fun!
Yes it does!
I am wearing vintage l’Heure Bleue perfume, this smells perfect. I don’t know from which period that is since it is a small sample. I am surprised they were making perfume samples, these days forget about a perfume sample, even the edt and edp samples are difficult to get.
The vintage version of L’Heure Bleue is lovely isn’t it? I wore it yesterday.
It is absolutely beautiful
That is a fantastic vintage.
SOTD will be Bigarade Concentree for this warmish fall day. This weekend I realized that I have no desire to wear any of the three scents I hosted for the split meet. The split process totally burned me out on them. Any one else have this happen to them? Maybe it’s because I still catch whiffs of Coromandel in my kitchen! Yikes????
Oh, no! that’s not a good result at all.
I’m grateful that you did the Van Cleef split as I am loving that scent!!
Hoping that goes away with time. I wore Coromandel yesterday and kept catching lovely little wafts in church. If you makes it feel better, your split partners are happy. I’m sure you will be again…maybe tuck them away for a couple weeks.
Could my typing be any more incoherent? If it makes you feel any better….is what I intended to say. Not even Yoda spoke like that…
Oh, yes. I had a really hard time decanting a bottle and got it absolutely everywhere and for days the smell of it made me a little queasy. Eventually it receded and so did my reaction to it. You’ll come around soon! And the corner of my room where my Coromandel split sits gives out wafts of it every time I walk past 🙂 Dreamy….
I liked Robin’s idea of wearing ELdO Like This, so that is what I spritzed on today. I do like this one as the weather turns colder in the fall.
Hey twin! It’s the best Halloween fragrance.
It’s raining off and on, a rare treat here, so last night and this morning I scented myself with Après L’Ondée. Thanks to chocolatemarzipan8’s inspiring reckless abandon, I am wearing 10 spritzes instead of my usual 2. Fabulous.
The weather has cooled (more than 25 degrees F) in the past few days, so this morning I’m heading to the post office with precious fragrant cargo. I couldn’t bear the thought of putting perfume in the mail when the temperatures were so high last week. Thanks for being understanding, swap friends, your USPS tracking numbers will be sent to you soon.
You go , tiffanie!!! spray away!!!
Happy Monday-
End of month time. Will be doing all sorts of reports this week, which means a nice 60 week. Oof!
In Dark Amber +Ginger Lily- I drained the sample bottle. Could be a buy next year.
Almond milk coffee and an English muffin with spinach and egg. Solid good food, of which I hope and pray my fellow citizens have enough of.
I love Dark Amber and Gingerlily…got my travel bottle for free when I bought a soap….after I drain my samples I will be working on that one next…You smell so good!!
It really is lovely and I can see this, along with Stash being a staple in the fall. Deeply lovely.
I also think the longevity is great (as I know this has been a complaint for others about Jo Malone)
Don’t know what to wear!? This weekend I finally switched over to my fall/winter fragrances (just the ones I keep out on the dressing table) and it is an overwhelming array of beauties. Think I will pull out Field Notes from Paris. I’ve missed you……
Field Notes!!!! Yes!!!! I have been making decants of that one to give for presents ….. in June I bought some really pretty metal 5ml decant sprays on amazon and I am going to make travel sprays of some of my full bottles to gift for birthdays and Christmas….Field Notes is great because it is unisex!
Wearing Still Life in Rio by Olfactive Studio – usually I find this one a sweet delight, but I am just getting screechy citrus today. I wonder If I sprayed from the wrong sample and put on Still Life ( orig ) which is much more citrus-based on me.
Can’t wait to get home and but on something else.
I wore the Rio version twice last week… so fun!
I haven’t gotten around to showering yet, so I am still in vintage Miss Dior. Stay home vacations can be the best but it’s so easy to lose track of time. So I might continue on with vintage Miss Dior or I might go on with the wearing of Theorema.
I’ve been dreaming about a short stay-home vacation with somebody taking care of my toddler…I would finally get to sleep in without somebody waking up at 6 and coming to jump on me… and get to clean the house without somebody making mess of it right away!
Yesterday I was wearing Iris Ganache and my guy commented that I smelled good and less than an hour later told me he loved me. I am, for obvious reasons, wearing Iris Ganache again today????????????
Yay, that’s wonderful! Nothing like wearing a scent with happy associations!
wonderful!
Two keepers!
Love is in the air!
🙂
Yayyyy! Glad it’s going so well for you
I love reading good news like this! 🙂
That’s so sweet to hear!
Yay!!! This is the cutest 🙂
Time to buy a backup bottle 😉
Yay!
I’m wearing La Douceur de Siam by Parfums Dusita today.
Mmm… this smells heavenly
Very curious about this!
I’m wearing ‘L’air du Desert Marocain’ by Tauer for the first time, which I bought this past weekend. It’s a dream… Simply fantastic.
Wearing it is really an experience, isn’t it?
In Luna Feline. Thanks to gracious Pixel for introducing me to this one (an many others :))
I’ll be wearing it this week! Are you covered in gold flakes?
I am 🙂 My daughter chose that fragrance for me today, because of the flakes 🙂
I was so amused that the little gold flecks came out in the decanting. Now my FB just has large gold flecks, y’all got all the little ones.
I was wondering how on earth the gold flakes got into my decants. Mine are from STC and I wondered if they had figured out a way to open the bottles and use a pipette, but I guess they’re small enough to pass through the atomizer!
SOTD: Santal Blanc
This one is like a cozy cashmere sweater.
Such a nice scent, one of my favorites for fall
I love this, but need a bit cooler weather, maybe 60’s.
Happy Monday, all (if that isn’t an oxymoron)! After a very autumnal-themed weekend that involved spice cake with caramelized apples and maple whipped cream for my husband’s birthday, and an outing yesterday to pick pumpkins at a gorgeous farm in a valley filled with fall color from the maples and vineyards, it’s now grey and blustery in advance of the latest rainstorm. My little cupcake and I went to the park this morning to play in some leaf piles before the fallen leaves all get soggy. Who needs baby toys? He could play with leaves for hours! And to match the weather and in keeping with my recent iris theme, I’m in Iris Silver Mist. Maybe it’s because I love iris so much, but while this perfume tends to be described with words like “alien” and “cold,” to me it’s just beautiful — shimmering, atmospheric, and perfectly named, like a luminous mist across a plush meadow. Makes me happy every time I inhale!
You smell wonderful.
It doesn’t get much prettier than valleys in the fall. Where I live, they take on a misty purple cast at a certain time of day. Your scent choice sounds perfect.
Iris Cendre today. Fall has arrived, perfect sunny and cool here today. But I also need fortification for a work disaster from last week reaching into this. This Iris, like many others, makes me feel suitably armed.
As someone still working through a work disaster that started in May, (a) you have my sympathies and (b) how sad that at work we only get to spray perfume to console ourselves and not, say, napalm. :^)
As ever I have packed my batch of 5 samples for the week, chosen by name/ description as they’re all new to me. These are all meant to be sweet treats, but are they? I aim to give them a ‘treat’ mark out of 5 and a ‘sweet’ comment.
SOTD is Linari “Porta del Cielo”.
Top: bergamot, pineapple, raspberry, freesia and artemisia;
Mid: orange blossom, violet, lily of the valley, sandalwood and cashmere wood;
Base: white musk, tonka, vanilla, benzoin and labdanum.
Treat factor: 2/5 – for the 10 minutes I can smell anything at all it is merely cheap and disappointing, not actively repulsive.
If this were a sweet it would be: sweet fanny adams.
I had about 10 seconds to choose a perfume this morning, and my gut said
Jicky. Its a good choice since it’s kind of acting like a soothing cough drop to my cold, which has migrated into my chest.
I am wishing I had brough my decant so I can spray more, but it’s probably better that I didn’t – it’s a workday.
I hope you feel better.
Jicky is a great choice for today. I’m glad its very soothing for you.
Thank you, Barqs!
Suffering from a crazy sinuses and an ear ache AND about to board a plane. Truly hoping my head does not explode. So many scents are just too much right now, so wearing Artkinsons Amber Empire. It’s a nice, quiet Amber that I like to use to mix and layer.
Oh, so sorry…. did you pound some decongestants? Hoping you stay comfortable on the flight!
Thanks and yes! It did the trick!!
Oof, sounds miserable! Have a safe flight and hope your head stays intact :/
Thanks!
Chew gum and drink (swallow) water! Feel better…..
Ugh, ear aches on a plane are one of the worst things ever … hope that it isn’t too bad and you have a nice flight!
Oh I wish I’d known sooner. This is a chronic problem for me. I find the gum/swallowing thing can sometimes backfire on me, leaving my ears plugged for weeks. Recommend a cough syrup with antihistamine & decongestant, plus Earplanz. They are ear plugs with a ceramic filter, so you can hear, but they slow down the air pressure change. Usually available in big box discount store pharmacies, about $7. Good luck.
Thanks; I will make a note of it!!
SOTD = Ex Nihilo Sweet Morphine
6 sprays from my travel spray which was gifted to me by a perfume fairy for almost half Valentine’s Day back in the summer. So gorgeous but really wish it would last longer! The notes according to Fragrantica which I took the liberty of splitting into can vs. cannot smell include: CAN smell lilac, iris, mimosa, boubon vanilla, heliotrope and orris; CANNOT smell bergamot, rose, vetiver and patchouli.
Sweet Morphine is my sweet treat for today.
“Almost half Valentine’s Day” seems like a holiday that can be monetized 😛
I have neglected posting for a while now, boo to me, but not my scents, today sandale nobile, from a new FB..
Welcome back!
I am wearing two half-spritzes of Comme de Garcon edp and I am STILL enveloped in a giant scent balloon. This one is so potent on me I keep decreasing how much I put on. I love it in fall, so weird and warm.
I was thinking about matching my perfume to my outfit, but what goes with a boring navy dress? Went for Bijou Romantique, just because it was within reach.
I always like iris with navy – either chilly like Iris Poudre and Iris Silver mist, or super sophisticated like 28 La Pausa.
Yes, I wish I had thought of that.
Iris Poudre and a purple smoky eye. Got lots of stuff to do today!
It’s fall here, suddenly! The wind howled all night, and rain is coming. SOTD is SL Chergui… I may just do an entire week of SL.
I wore Chergui last night. I woke myself up at 4:30 a.m. coughing and hacking and the deep drydown of it helped lull me back to sleep: warm, powdery, comforting.
You smell fab! Wore that yesterday after spin class and impressed myself all day long! ????
I’m wearing Hermes Galop from a sample today. I like it, but it’s not love, which is making my credit card heave a sigh of relief, no doubt.
Two friends and I painted my house (interior) on Saturday. We didn’t get all of it done, but we did get a lot done, and I’m still a little sore. We’re going to finish next weekend, and it’s looking really good.
Painting is so nice when it’s all finished!
I will be relieved to have it done. And the I’ll finally be able to unpack the rest of my stuff (the stuff that I was just going to have to move to paint anyway). Maybe by Christmas time I’ll be fully settled in.
Very good morning, all of NST. It’s cold and wet but I don’t care: today we leave for two weeks of being together not-at-work. My suitcase is ridiculously heavy: 18 kilos! It bulges, though in fairness to me, most of that is my pillow. But it’s silly– you need as much stuff for two weeks as for six. Sydney first, and it’s 30 degrees there tomorrow. Then Tasmania, and it’s like our winter there: temperatures in the low mid-teens. Then Melbourne, and the weather is much of a muchness with here. So you see (she said in a self-exculpatory tone), I have had to pack for three seasons. Well, that’s my story, and I have the telling of it….I’m travelling in the ever-beguiling Ambre Narguile, which is gorgeous, but politely keeps itself to itself, so shouldn’t be a nuisance to any random stranger I sit beside on the plane, and I’m looking forward to my Chanel fortnight. Oh NST, I’m childishly excited! Two weeks with Richard, just him and me. No staff. No students. No MEETINGS. And Tasmania will be great too.
Have a WONDERFUL time!
You know, I think I will. No, I KNOW I will. This break couldn’t have come at a more welcome time.
Have a great vacation.
Enjoy every moment, and report any perfume purchases when you return, pretty please!!! 🙂
Have a wonderful trip!!
Enjoy and happy perfume shopping too????
Have a wonderful trip!!
Tasmania has always sounded mysterious and enticing, with Devils and all. Sounds like a great trip. Please have fun and regale us with stories after!
But, but, but… Where are you going to put the perfume you buy?
Sounds like you have planned a great escape. Have fun
Wishing you a wonderful trip!
I’m trying by Killian Incense Oud, but I think there are lots of better choices for this genre.
Hey ScentSpirit,
To answer your question from yesterday, the new Bois des Iles EDP seemed more aldehylic and overall more intense and it is VERY good. Based on test strip sniffing, it is by far the best “improvement” amongst the ones I smelled – Coromandel, Sycomore and La Pausa. I am still working through half of a 75 mL bottle and I rarely wear it because a family member is extremely sensitive to it.
Oh that is such good news. I bought bottles of Coromandel and Beige before the formulation changed, but didn’t think I should also splurge on B des I. Maybe I will buy the new one for my Christmas present. Thank you!
Starting a week of treats with Rose de Petra. I don’t usually grace the office with something so lovely.
That’s soooooo beautiful! I fell in love with it from the sample you sent. It’s top of my list to buy when I’m in the States next year. Come to think of it, you started me on my Maharanih journey too. Your enabler brooch sparkles very bright!
For myself, wearing a Rich Lady perfume to work makes me briefly forget that I am a working stiff.
So well said… 🙂
Fell down some stairs yesterday morning right on my tailbone and am having trouble sitting today. Naturally, I went for Chanel 19 hoping the legendary spine strengthening properties work literally, too!
What say the Doctrine of Signatures on Spine Strengthening?
So sorry!! Hope it heals quickly.
Oh no, I hope you’re okay Gi.
oh no! hope you are feeling better.
Getting one of those donut shaped pillows is worth it. In my one time experience it takes awhile to heal. Hope you feel better soon.
Oh no! I hope there’s no damage and that it heals soon!
Went out to plant perennials, sun shining, and finished 4 hours later, trembling and very sore. Luckily I treated myself yesterday to a large bottle of Rose Jam, now soaking in the tub.
I also ordered Nasty Woman perfume (Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs) Sunday night – will advise. Regards, all.
Omg they really made it?? I can’t wait to hear about it!!
I am dying to hear your opinion of it. At least on paper it looks like something I would love (note wise i mean)
Horrible day at work so no time to read comments at the moment I’m wearing vintage YSL Champagne. I hope everyone’s day was better than mine.
At least you smell wonderful
It’s uphill from now on!
Ugh. Hope tonight is restful and tomorrow a better day!
Started treat week with a full wearing of Angel Muse. Not ever having joined the Angel tribe, it’s not entirely comfortable on me. And though I don’t dislike it (occasionally it does get on my nerves) I’m ready for the ride to be over.
The swaps continue to trickle in and it’s like Christmas here! I have so many wonderful things to try that I don’t know where to start. Thanks for setting up the swapmeet, and thanks to those who participated. Such a thoughtful and generous group, it’s actually quite humbling.
I think that’s how I feel about Muse. I have Sephora samples and I open it and dab micro doses. It’s much more likeable to me that way.
Tried Oolong tea today. Hmm not sure I smelt much, but I think I may be getting a cold.
