Wednesday scent of the day 10/12

Posted by Robin on 12 October 2016 256 Comments

ck-platinum-fall16

Hump Day! (And a quick reminder: the next splitmeet swapmeet! is coming up on Saturday.) What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Calvin Klein Reveal, from Jessica's Top 10 of Fall 2015.

Reminder: on 10/14, wear one of your Top 10 of Fall fragrances.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top images are from the Calvin Klein Platinum Fall 2016 campaign.

I’m in Chanel Boy. Got a small sample of it and I’m really smelling good. Not yet into the powdery dry down. Still smell the citrus wafting about me. I also ordered travel sizes of the new Zoologist scents so I’m in Olfactory heaven

Scent twins with Robin today!! There’s nothing too terribly complex about CK Reveal but I really like it as a nice cozy scent. :-)

FM Noir Epices, which is such a wonderfully contemplative scent. Tea is DF earl grey goût russe.

I just hunted down my decant of Noir Epices last weekend so I can get it on rotation. Such a fantastic scent! It has to be one of the best orientals ever.

What I love about Noir Epices is that it manages to be an oriental without being at all sweet.
It always reminds me of mulled wine.

Yes – very good. I don’t really like sweet either. It smells to me like the whole thing you want from a alluring oriental – mulled wine, leather chairs, cozy fire, cashmere shawl, a person to snuggle with (or seduce!)… it gets all that across. It’s very grown up for sure. I also like that it’s really unisex.

I should have been more accurate. I love sweet in perfumes, but Noir Epices is great because it isn’t. Does that make any sense at all?

I have only tried a tiny bit of it once, and loved it, but got more powder than spice. I guess that isn’t true for all of you?

Vintage Yvresse, from a decant gifted me from a wonderful NSTer.
This is fast becoming a favourite for autumn, so cosy and gorgeous. Its Helping me to calm down after long and stressful call centre call to vodaphone, I was on the phone for almost an hour and got nowhere!
Also really enjoying Santa Maria Novella ‘Autumn’ incense, which I bought as my scented souvenir from Rome. I’m going to get the room spray next trip to London, it’s so lovely and evocative.
Tea of the day; Twinings Darjeeling.

Hi Robin, sorry for such late reply!- the SMN Autumn fragrance is green and earthy, a little smoky, a little floral, but not much, it smells quite distinctive to me.I imagine SSS ‘Forrest Walk’ to smell like this , but of course, probably smells very different.
Thanks for ‘Good luck’ with vodaphone, I surely need it!

I’m in the very balsamic, spicy, ambery Opus VI by Amouage. And I’m wearing a flannel shirt because it’s freezing in the office this morning.

Last night the hubs and I went to see Shin Godzilla and it was awesome. Very dry humor, but also ridiculously laugh out loud funny with effects.

Still no perfume today, due to this vicious cold, but I am chain-drinking Canton Tea Co teas I picked up in London (first English Breakfast, then Earl Grey, and now Jade Tips Green Tea). Lovely, but not exciting.

To those who wanted to know yesterday: the room fragrance with which I was so taken was actually Culti diffusers:
    http://www.thesofaandchair.co.uk/for-sale/accessories/7709-culti-decor-home?gclid=COSllJrb1M8CFWEo0wod9G0LGg

It appears to have been tea scented, so perhaps the rosy floral notes came from the thousands of flowers decorating the lobbies! Or perhaps I was simply imagining them because of the presence of all the flowers.

He’s very sick (liver cancer), but hanging in there. During the day, you’d swear nothing was wrong with him. But night time is the worst. Poor little thing paces the house. The vet says its his nerves, so we are trying anti anxiety medicine for him.

One of these days, I will be able to whip out my single sweater, wear it while sipping hot cocoa, while sitting around the outdoor fire, feeling perfectly cozy and content! How’s Houston in “winter”? It is less full-on and the vetiver makes it more sophisticated and the hazelnuts more friendly than the original, I think. The two are clearly related, but Muse is easier to like – there are even some Angel-haters who wear it.

While I admire the original I’ve never really wanted to wear it. Enjoy it on others though.
This one sounds a bit more me. And as you point out further down, it’s very accessible.

    Very excited for the swapmeet!

Wearing a bit of my tiny decant of Le Labo Poivre 23 today. Delicious vanilla/pepper, but if it weren’t cool and rainy, would definitely be too rich for me. For some reason, I can’t handle “rich” as much anymore – despite loving them. I wonder why. Menopause?

Went to see the play Falsettos last night which was a funny and moving relationship musical revolving around the AIDS crisis in the 80s. I showed up too early so went to Arabian Oud across the street. I ended up with a small vial of oil called Mukhallat Nadji Maliki which is amber, Indian Oud, saffron with some rose. It smells mostly of saffron for those looking for a very saffron-y saffron. It’s a bit animalic, almost mushroomy on application but the drydown is a toasted saffron oud. I quite like it.
But, not wearing that today. Went with the very pretty Beloved.

I didn’t sample that much this time. I’d already tried this one last visit and really liked the smell when it dried down. But I’ve tried the popular edps like Kalemat, Woody, Ghroob(which was an amber oriental that I liked), and some of their Cambodian Oud oils.

OH so lucky you to see Falsettos! I saw the original work, March of the Falsettos way back in the early ’80’s when I was living and working in NYC. Very affecting, especially since it was one of the very first theatre pieces to address AIDS. Hope you enjoyed it–looks like a great cast.

I really enjoyed it. Oddly, there are very few reviews of the current production. When deciding if I wanted to see it, everything I found, including videos, was from the original. Andrew Rannells(Book of Mormon) and Stephanie Block were really fantastic, as was everyone else. It must have been something to see it so early on in the AIDS crisis. The audience demographic last night kept the memory of those days very present. It definitely brought me back to my beginning days as a nurse in the early 90s. Times have changed for the better in that respect.

31 Rue Cambon is making it’s seasonal debut today. It is my go-to liquid fortification on days when I know I’ll need it, like today. The rest of the time, it’s just beautiful and makes me feel unstoppable.

In other news, I passed by my local Lush store this weekend and spied what I believe were some bottles of Lord of Misrule shower gel. I was able to keep walking because I am still working through my stash from last year, but I will want to restock soon.

    HUMPDAY!

    1) SOTD: Tom Ford’s Noir Pour Femme lotion. The lotion is very richly scented and you can even mix this further with an unscented lotion. If you have dry hair you could even scrunch a bit into your hair. Perfect for a chilly, dry autumn morning.

    2) Having a nice homemade cafe au lait with a Vietnamese style croissant. The scents of breakfast with the TF Noir is pretty awesome!

Happy “Hump Day” everyone! I was in the mood for “rose” scented fragrances this morning. I started with Molton Brown’s “Delicious Rhubarb and Rose” shower gel. I love it because its so refreshing. The fruity-rosy combo goes well together. I am using one of my new samples I just received yesterday. “Slow Explosions” by Imaginary Authors. This is a rose and saffron scent that is described as an autumn scent. It is a bit on the masculine side, in my opinion, but still very nice. To tone it down a bit, I also sprayed some “Lady Vengeance” by Juliette Has a Gun. This is a soft, feminine type of rose scent. Its one of my favorite rose fragrances.

I am going down to New Orleans to see what all he needs and to help him find a new place to live. Right now, he’s staying in one of those hotels with everything in it that you can pay for weekly or monthly (has refrigerator, stove, etc..). Wearing 2 (!) spritzer of the lovely Salomé today. This is a “T-Rex Approved” scent. How do I know that, you may ask? Because she sniffs my neck in a very focused, intent manner and then tries to rub all over me like a cat. This dog just kills me!

I’m off for the next 3 days and am planning to do some more winnowing of “stuff” and trying to find a way to organize things I’m going to donate and stuff I will sell at a big “moving sale” this fall/winter. The hardest part is getting started because it seems so overwhelming.

You all smell fabulous and nice to see so many are enjoying fall weather and scents. It’s so interesting to me how people classify scents as seasonal.

Be well, travel safe, and give your loved ones (2 and 4 legged) some extra love today❤️

Yes, a room at a time is a great way to approach it. I’ve also done one “category ” at a time and have donated almost my entire book collection. It’s a very bittersweet process. T-Rex is the most entertaining dog I’ve ever had- she is so unexpectedly “catlike,” it always takes me by surprise.

I’m thinking cumin must agree with me. On the Vetiver post yesterday, Robin mentioned PdN Vetyyver as being a bit bit too cumin-y for her. I blew through a sample of that in no time and it went on my (endless) FB list. T-Rex does the licking thing too! She will also roll all over the floor where I have stood and spritzed myself. I always wonder how things smell to animals with their heightened sensitivity…

Taking a cue from Goldilocks and the Three Bears, some like it hot, some like it cold, this is just right: not too cheap, not too expensive, and just enough vanilla and cream and musk to satisfy gourmand lovers and haters alike.

I am working from home today as I am getting a delivery that requires my signature. Okay, if you must know, it is a box from Hermes with the goodies for the Splitmeet!

I did not even really have a weekend and this week had been just as crazy as last week so I do welcome not having to commute today.

Yum, Fresh Cream is pretty delicious. I wore it all throughout my honeymoon and still can’t get enough (though I like the lotion better than the EDT…probably because I smelled it first)

FOR PETE’S SAKE I EITHER MISSED THE DOORBELL OR THE FEDEX GUY MESSED WITH ME! I was facilitating a meeting between 2:30 and 3:00 and when I decided to check tracking it said to be delivered tomorrow and I was like wha————t??? I opened the door and there was a sticky 1st Attempt failed. I DELIBERATELY LEFT A NOTE THAT HE SHOULD RING THE DOORBELL SEVERAL TIMES AND THAT IT MAY TAKE ME 2’MINUTES TO OPEN THE DOOR. I swear the doorbell did not ring — it did not matter that I was in a meeting because I could have excused myself for a minute. AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH

Booooo! That’s happened to me where I was home all day, no doorbell, and that Note. I think they’re in a rush so don’t want to wait. Much faster to stick notes on the door and then make you go pick it up.

Completing the Histoire des Parfums Ven-Vidi-Vici trio with “Vici”. ‘Vici’ evidently being short for ‘Vici-ous blast of pepper’.

Top: angelica, cardamom, red fruit, basil, violet leaf, galbanum and aldehydes.
Mid: iris, osmanthus, incense, and celery seed.
Base: patchouli, musk, cedar and raspberry.

This does nothing for me, leaving the trio overall result as meh-no-no. :^)

Heading to the doctor, courthouse (don’t ask), post office, then mall to do some returns. I woke up thinking about Chanel 5 L’eau, which got me thinking about Boy, and I’m planning on wearing a bit of each. I’m on the verge of an anxiety attack and both of these should be soothing, and I’m also hoping doing a comparison of the 2 while I’m out will keep my mind from obsessing over other matters.

Yes!Absolutely! It’s kinda abstract and “odd”,but not in a Secretions Magnifiques way. There is a hint of florals and some toasted sesame which I love!So yeah! Not that I prescribe myself to such silly(!!!!) perfume wearing rules, but it an occasional perfume, for a sunset cruise on a yacht, scaring the salespeople at Harrods with your fierceness,or just to be the “who’s that girl???”moment in a persons’life!????

Finally got myself to a consultation/physical therapy appointment to deal with the leftover hamstring fiasco from the beginning of summer. Just decided the remaining tightness needed more expert help, as did knowing what exercises to do to avoid residual knee problems yet build strength. So, I will join the ranks of those nervous re $$. Although insurance covers much, there’s still a co-pay.

Came home and decided on Arquiste 57 (J. Crew). Good for a cool fall day. I had to decant it after I got it because the bottle fell apart. It was incredibly cheap, so I didn’t mind too much…

Late to the party, but it has been a productive day in the last spritzes of Cristalle–time to retire it for next summer. Ran errands and made a ton of appointments (hair/car/pedi/heating system/accupuncture/dentist/mammogram/flu shot). Took a new lace evening gown to be hemmed. I am going to a gala in two weeks so its time to start soliciting scent recommendations. Probably a rose, but which one?

For quite a while, I’ve been wanting to request a poll of top three “black tie” fragrances. I would love reading everyone’s ideas! My favorite “evening attire” rose would probably be Noir de Noir. But Myrrhe et Delires is my fav for black tie events.
