First, two new adverts for Black Orchid: the SFW exploding bottle spot, and below that, the version with model Mica Arganaraz, the new face of the fragrance, wearing nothing but a strategically placed Black Orchid Bottle. Last up, 4 minutes of Tom Ford talking about the Private Blend collection.
The model in the second video looks a bit like a female version of Peter Wolf from J. Geils Band for some reason. And while the video is pretty, it doesn’t match the fragrance itself, IMO. The video implies some kind of raw sexuality, but Black Orchid the perfume smells… well, differently. I always imagine it on a woman in an evening gown and stilettos, with immaculate hairstyle and make-up, not a nude siren with tousled hair.
Ha! You’re right about Peter Wolf. A truly underrated musician, I might add.
I did not think either of the videos matched Black Orchid — but the second one is very Tom Ford.
The PB blend video was oddly dull to me — TF clearly reading a standard-pr script, and he sounded like he could not care less. I could not make it through the whole 4 minutes.
I noticed that TF loves using sex appeal in his perfume ads, but it almost never matches the smell. I remember TF for Men ads, with the bottle covering woman’s private parts. You’d expect the juice to be really shocking with that ad, but the fragrance itself is so respectable and a bit old-fashioned that my Dad could wear it (and he does). Also i don’t really find their ads sexy. Sexual, yes. But not sexy at all.
That last ad though. Poor TF sounds like he was dragged into the studio by force.
I always remember the Gucci ad with the shaved G:

Same thing — nothing shocking about the clothes. He just wants your attention. Which makes the PB ad all the weirder — he could not sound any less convincing.
I didn’t think those TF for Men ads were sexy, either: I thought they were depressing in their sheer desperation. But the stuff is still available a decade later, so I guess he knows what he’s doing.
The last video sounded like a narrated National Geographic special about migrating spermwhales…yawn.
Lol,and does Mr Ford hate his own Black Orchid so much that the bottle needs to explode into smithereens??What is going on,ad-people???
It was such basic ad speak…really, really dull stuff.
