It's Harvest Moon Friday! Tonight there will be a full moon with a penumbral eclipse. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with a nut or grain / cereal note. If you don't have one, you could think of another note associated with the fall harvest season — apple? hay?
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm wearing Ego Facto Poopoo Pidoo, which smells like rice powder and almonds and marshmallow.
Reminder: on 9/23, wear a perfume by Annick Menardo, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Field Notes which just felt right on this chilly morning…got to work and added Mexican Cocoa to participate in the community project…they are playing well together….
You smell fantastic!
🙂
You smell great. That is a good autumn scent.
It is!
Mechant Loup by L’Artisan today. Given its list of notes, its surprisingly dry and almost bitter. I like it.
Scent twins! We smell like feral hazelnut brittle and salty greenery, and not at all like “wet dog” 😉
Love that one.
I am wearing “The Wolf” too ☺
FlowerbyKENZO L’Elixir – praline (nuts, caramel) , raspberry, vanilla, roses, and powdery musk beneath.
Had to close my bedroom windows for the first time since June.
Summer don’t go !!!!!!!!
😀
Love this one- you smell great!
Thanks! So do you!
I’ll have to get a sample of the Lostmarch you’re wearing. Sounds intriguing.
I’ve been on the fence about getting this one. I think you just pushed me over, Bear:)
Yay !
Enabler pin !
Thanks! 😉
You smell really amazing!
I’m with you on that: Summer Don’t Go!!!
Me too. I love Summer.
I’ll line up with you all on this
As will I.
Summer’s gotta go go go away ……
I’m wearing Aomassai, which was in my almost-empty-samples-to-finish pile anyway.
I was thinking of that one, but of course could not find my sample!
I was just looking at their discovery set last night. It’s very tempting…
Discovery set?? Oh my…????
I got the origami set, which £ for ml is pretty good value, plus you get just about all the scents. There’s one for Parfumerie Générale and another for Pierre Guillaume Collection Croisière and Huitième Art.
I was looking at the PG Origami Coffret. Are you enjoying yours? It is a good value until shipping to the US comes into play. But there are multiple scents from the line I want to try so it might end up being a better deal than buying individual decants.
Ooh love this one, so unusual, might get a FB one day.
Serge Lutens Jeux de Peau. Hot brioche on a sandalwood platter: stunning.
Scent twin! I agree fully with your description, and Iam enjoying it immensely in this rainiy cool morning. I had put this in my “I don’t think I like this” box from trying it this summer, so definitely a cool waether scent for me.
Yummy! And quite comforting!
triplet. I’m like my own personal bakery.
Scent twin!!
OMG this sounds marvelous. I need to get my nose on some of this!
Wearing my favorite grain/cereal note: RICE!
SOTD: Poopoo Pidoo by Ego Facto. I will own a FB of this someday! I will! I will!
Happy Friday! Friday Night Lights at Grayson High School, where I hear the football team will be playing before and after the main performance: THE MARCHING BAND! HA HA HA 🙂 GO RAMS!!!!
The notes sound very similar to PdNs Kiss Me Tender.
#bandmomforever REPRESENT!!
Hey twin! And sounds like we have very similar Friday nights planned.
Marching band is a great way to guarantee acceptance into a great college! way to go! 🙂
We are fortunate to live in a school district that has a marching band. So cool! Actually, there is a big focus on their music program all-around and the resources they have are amazing.
Yep, don’t deflate those poor football players’ egos by explaining what we know to be the truth: the band is the main attraction! ???? Marching band rules!!!
These m arching bands sound fantastic, wish they had them at UK schools!
Kilian Single Malt which is very autumnal with its wheat absolute supporting a deep plum
Perfect choice!
Marvelous. 🙂
That’s what I chose too! It does seem quite perfect.
Nice, although I couldn’t wear it to the office because I will smell like I just had a few pints.
Totally forgot about the challenge today. Had to be at work at 5 this morning and put on Mitsouko. The queen isn’t sitting well with my tummy right now.
I hope your day goes well and you can rest over the weekend. You smell divine.
I hope you feel better soon. Mitsouko is tricky. Out of the blue I wanted to wear it last weekend on one of our first crisp fall days. It was perfect last Sunday, but I just never know when I’m going to be in the mood for it. If I’m not feeling it, Mitsouko can wrestle me to the ground.
“Spirit of the Glen” by D.S. & Durga. This one has a malted barley note over a just-sweet-enough vanilla base, with other notes of camomile and hay. It’s a warm, cozy scent which is accompanying me nicely through the day – getting slightly boozy as time goes by and the white wine base note comes through. But it’s not a boozy fragrance per se; I went to school near a malt store and it’s the sweet/sour smell of sprouting grain here, turned into something appetising and Autumnal by the perfumer’s art.
I may well get this one, although I might re-test first against Rudis, Les Jeux sont faits and A kiss by the fireside to be sure it’s not too close to any of the others.
I like this one a lot, though my initial impression was that it was a bit sweet for my tastes — I’m ever on the prowl for the ideal whiskey comfort scent, but often find them too heavy on the caramelly-vanillic notes. I’ll have to revisit my sample.
Have you tried 4160 Tuesdays’ “A Kiss by the Fireside”? (They do a very reasonable sample programme BTW). Although I think it may be sweeter than Spirit of the Glen, and it has a smokiness that I love but others may not. :^)
Such a fun scent.
Sounds great! I need to try this line.
I got samples of all the HYLNDS series from First in Fragrance in Germany – probably easier to get hold of them in the New World. :^)
Yes, they are readily available (I think Twisted Lily even has a special package deal on samples) but I have to stick to my perfume budget.
you smell great.
I’m wearing Smell Bent Winter Vixen. At first smell it’s full of hazelnuts, but now the vanilla is kicking in. It may be a scrubber if much more vanilla develops.
The hazelnuts part sounds nice.
I am in Bolshevixen – great minds think alike and smell wonderful.
What a fantastic name though!
Happy Friday.
Lostmarch Lann-Ael which smells like sophisticated Rice Krispie Treats. I ordered a sample after reading about it on NST. I think it would make a great second or third date scent 😉 .
Hey Twin. I was thinking that it smells a lot like Orchidee Vanille by VC&A. I have a sample too. I had other options to choose from this morning but I’m trying to use up my decants.
Will look around to see if I have a sample of the VC&A to compare. Or, if it’s still available, will check it out next time I’m near NM. Of course, a trip there can be dangerous $$!!
Just reading this blog is dangerous Wendysue. 🙂
I second that!
Agreed!
I have never heard it described like that. Intriguing. I love rice notes, but they always seem to evaporate first.
I’m wearing Kenzo Amour from a sample. I originally bought it when I asked for some suggestions of perfumes that smelled like glazed doughnuts, and I can get a whiff of that here, but I also got the rice note.
I may need more caffeine. In the last dream I had just before I woke up, I was at a lecture and struggling to stay awake.
I love, love, love Kenzo Amour. It is so delicious!
I am not participating in the community challenge.
Wearing again, Afloat by Derek Lam (matched my gravatar)
I’m gonna check this one out tomorrow at Sephora.
Three days in a row? must be good!
TGIF!
Also national play doh day
SOTD cdg jalsimair.
FM Noir Épices, which includes NUTmeg. Does this count? 🙂
Nutmeg says fall to me. 🙂
There is NUTmeg in my community project fragrance too so I say yes it does count!
NUTmeg counts, especially in Noir Epices.
Yes it does! Either way it’s definitely spicy and harvest-y.
always a good choice. you smell great.
Thanks for the votes of confidence, I enjoyed it a lot today. 🙂
Unseasonably warm in Glasgow for my visit (arrived yesterday, going home to Aberdeen tomorrow); am currently smelling a tad confused! Almost finished my Snowdrop & Crystal Flowers before I left the hotel this morning, then visited Frasers (department store) which wasn’t that great the last few times I’ve popped in, but is now stocking some interesting fragrances. So back of left hand is sporting Martin Margiela ‘untitled’ edp, on back of right hand is his ‘Replica/Promenade in the Gardens’ & further up left arm is Atkinson’s ‘Posh On The Green’, hence the confusion mentioned earlier! Initially I loved the Atkinson’s, & years ago I thought I would one day buy the ‘untitled’, but now I get rotting garden matter on first sniff, so I bought the ‘Promenade in the Gardens’. I may have to shower before going to the Jimmy Webb gig this evening…
Sounds like a fun shopping day!
Indeed it was – as was the previous afternoon, when I bought a pair of gorgeous antique Georg Jensen 18 carat gold drop earrings set with citrines! & Jimmy Webb was just superb.
Angel Muse for me. So beautiful and comforting.
I need to stop in Sephora for a sample of this. I have never tried any of the Angels.
I haven’t seen it recently at any Sephira I’ve been to. Maybe that’s changed? I tried it at Macy’s.
I looked for it last weekend (as well as No 5 L’Eau) and the Sephora I was at had neither. Both are available at their online store, so presumably some B & Ms are carrying it.
My Sephora had it!
It was Sephora on 86th new Lex that had a bottle out. Only place I noticed it, but that might have been because the selection at that store is tiny, as is the store itself (compared to others.)
Macy’s has it… have not seen it at Sephora. Nordies has it you’ll have to wait up until 2017 I think for the NYC Nordies.
You smell great!
BTW- for Angel fans…I tried the Angel candle and the fragrance filled the room with Angel. I was surprised that my husband did not comment.
Maybe he’s anosmic to Angel?
Thanks to apsara’s comment above, I’ve finally decided on a SOTD. Luctor et Emergo EDT for the Play-doh, hay, and almonds.
L’Artisan Jour de Fête would also work to fit both categories 😉
I don’t have anything – and honestly couldn’t think of anything – with a cereal note, so I wore 1000 by Patou. It has a quality of dry apples to me, and maybe a little bit hay.
Ahhh, a wonderful perfume to fall back on!
Even if it doesn’t fit the project you smell positively wonderful.
Love 1000, but definitely calls for cooler weather.
Gentleman from Oscar de la Renta.
How is it?
Just average compared to my love of the pepper bomb Oscar for men and the carnation notes of Pour Lui. I think it will grow on me.
On a side note so happy the designers from Monse will be creative directors of the house. Great collection from Monse this season. ????
Thanks!
Enjoying the beautiful almond (and honey) note of L’Eau d’Hiver
A beauty!
Lovely!
Amazing!
One of my desert island scents
This is a great one. So transparent but also lasts forever.
I’m wearing TF Black Orchid. I picked it because it was on the list the other day. I added a little spray of Laura Mercier Vanille with it.
Love the mushroom note in Black Orchid! Not everyone smells that, I think the marketing who-ha calls it “black truffle “.
You smell fantastic! 😀
And I’ve eaten black truffles, they taste like exotic mushrooms to me. YMMV
Thanks! I think I finally figured out that I can wear Black Orchid if I apply it dabbed and not sprayed. That’s hard for me because I’m a crazy sprayer.
Scent twins! I don’t think I wear this scent as much as I should, so I was pleased to have an excuse to wear it today. Of course, having a lot of different scents, I could say that about half my wardrobe. Like Bear, I love the mushroom note in this.
Exactly, I’m always thinking, why don’t i wear this more?
Happy Friday!
1) SOTD: Crabtree and Evelyn almond body lotion, layered with Tom Ford Black Orchid. Very warm and earthy and sexy, and the almond/hazelnut/truffle notes are playing together beautifully together.
2) Homemade Cafe Du Monde coffee with almond milk and a hot biscuit with plenty of honey. Perfect.
Oooh, ALL of that sounds like a wonderful combination!
You smell perfectly delectable!
I just noticed today that one can get almond milk at Starbucks (I know it’s a sin to mention this where you live). I asked a barista if it was sweetened or unsweetened and one of them just gave me an eeeew look and the other said unsweetened. I shall try it next time I’m using my stars for a freebie!
Elie Saab L’Eau Couture today. I’m a fan of almond notes. This is so light, fresh, clean and pretty. Not remarkable, but pretty to my nose.
For some reason I’m so drawn to this line. I had a sample of Le Parfum Intense and didn’t love it but often craved it. I’ve got to try the flankers some day. I feel like one of them will be a good fit.
Hi, twin!
????????????
Going with my basmati rice darling, Miller & Bertaux A Quiet Morning – the closest thing I have to a signature scent. And, having finally finished my hospital fellowship and free to wear what I want during the day (at least for now), I am looking forward to joining you all in more of these projects!
Congratulations on finishing your fellowship!
Congrats! I’ve never sniffed that one, but sure you smell fabulous!
Nice! On both counts!
Congratulations!
Congrats, and enjoy that temporary freedom to the max!
Congrats, and you smell wonderful! I don’t think Miller & Bertaux get the attention they should. I especially love Greenx4.
Congratulations!
It is finally, blessedly, cool here. I’m so sick of upper-80s heat! (Yeah, yeah, I know, there are those of you who think I’m crazy, and also that I’m going to be singing another tune when it’s below zero and snowing. Nope. Nope nope.)
I think I only have samples of stuff with nut or grain notes and I’m not feeling them today. I hauled my bottle of SSS Tabac Aurea out of the cabinet, since it is so perfectly autumnal. Gorgeous stuff.
You smell fantastic! I was “this close” to choosing Jour Ensoleille for my scent today because of the oakmossy-hay thing going on. SSS has a lot of very “fall” fragrances.
Jour is so good in the early spring and fall!
I like JE very much, but it doesn’t smell like hay to me. (Very few “hay” scents do.) Oh well, it does smell great.
Love the way you smell!
😀 me too!
Oh man, I need to get mine out too. You smell great!
SOTD is Volnay Yapana, which has a rice note. I have worn this quite a bit lately and am really enjoying it. I think it would be interesting on a man; need to get Enabler Husband to give it a try.
I need to get an enabler husband 😉
In Smell Bent’s Bolshevixen today.
Hazelnuts, nutmeg, cinnamon, cocoa and vanilla.
Wow, that sounds great!
The whole line is quite well made and very inexpensice
Oy! Sometimes I feel like I should stop reading comments because my list of wants keep growing!
SOTD Majda Bekkali Tulaytulah which has both almond and malt, though the almond is the dominant player.
I’m sure you smell great Elisa. It’s on my sample list.
That sounds devine!!
That sounds really good.
You may have earned a few enabler pins!
Happy Friday everyone! Wearing Hermes Elixir des Merveilles. I always enjoy this orange gourmand scent. Very woody and resinous.
Twins – I ordered a bottle after using up a carded sample during my last trip.
you smell incredible!
Bois Farine today, in all it’s nutty weirdness. I haven’t worn it in ages and it smells great. Happy Friday everyone 🙂
You do smell great! I’m in Dior Vétiver, which is a bit nutty perhaps.
Vetivers smell nutty to me!
I’m wearing the signs of another harvest, Foin Fraîchement Coupé by Oriza L.Legrand. It’s quirky and wonderful.
Nice!
I thought of one my perfumes that might work for today: Ambre Narguilé. Tobacco and spice. Sort of harvest-ular. What I am craving, however, is Beige–which I do not have. My sweater is scented with it from a sample I had a while back. For now I’m skipping Hermes in favor of my sweater.
Hey, twin! I love Beige, too. It has a golden, glowy warmth that works in all seasons, I think.
I can send you a sample of Beige if you want. I have enough to share. Please let me know.
Am in Hermès Ambre Narguilé, which to me is the quintessential fall perfume: dried fruit, spices, tobacco. I was getting wafts of mulled cider when I first put it on.
Got a sample of Ginestet Botrytis in the mail yesterday which I wore for the day and reapplied before bed. Love! I’d stopped buying samples for a while but had accumulated a long list of fall/winter perfumes to try, mostly culled from comments here. I’ve only tried a handful but already a few are FB worthy (the aforementioned Botrytis, PdN Ambre Cashmere Intense, ELdO Bijou Romantique) – a much higher batting average than usual. Enabler pins all around!
I love Ambre Narguilé. It is so delicious and a Fall staple.
I wanted to stop the samples until I went through them all, but for the same reason you cited, I haven’t been able to. Even as I read today, there are so many adored fragrances that I haven’t tried/ heard of. I have found some in my newer sample acquisitions that go on the FB list. With the holidays coming, there will hopefully be gift lists, gift cards, etc., so that a new bottle will be practically free by perfumista logic!
Yep, lot of sales coming up which gets us closer to *free* 🙂
I love Bijou. And I bat much more successfully getting samples from local and distant NST pals than I did in the brief phase where I was going at this alone 🙂
Ambre Narguilé is delicious. You smell fabulous.
Love Ambre Narguilé and Botrytis – can’t go wrong there!
I’m wearing Fil de Dieu, which I absolutely love. Victoria at BdJ remarked today it’s an updated Shalimar and by God it is. I wouldn’t mind owning a bottle at all.
I love it, too, and it works year-round for me. I recently discovered Bijou Romantique, which is very similar and equally addictive.
Scent twins!Rare occasion for me!The moon is gorgeous tonight in the southern hemisphere guys!xo
Full moon and the southern cross… Lucky you!
I know I have something with rice in it, but I am struggling to recall. So…. since it was about 45 degrees this morning and crisp and lovely, plus the moon, my SOTD is vintage Lancome Magie Noir. I am recognizing the power of real oakmoss in celebration of the harvest moon.
Oakmoss is so lovely. I hate it when fragrances list it and it is barely detectable! I want to smell like a forest, dang it!
I am lucky and hold for dear life my fav vintage oakmossy fragrances. There is nothing like it for depth. I love the earthy vibe I get from it. What is your fav big oakmoss fragrance?
Mitsouko and Diorella are my big faves, though I love almost any old chypre.
Wow! Nothing like vintage for MN! yes to real oakmoss! If it weren’t so sticky I would wear it alone as a perfume!
Have you ever tried mixing some oakmoss eo with some fractionated coconut oil? I did this with some sticky vetiver eo, and it really did the trick. I’ve not tried it with oakmoss…..
Usually I add oakmoss to some of my other blends…but actually adding it to a simple carrier oil (such as fractionated coconut as you mentioned) would work! Thanks for the suggestion!
It’s a cliche, I know. But isn’t is marvelous that we all see (roughly) the same moon? It was spectacular yesterday.
It was really beautiful when it was coming up on the horizon. The colors were amazing from dusk to dark. So pretty. It’s very cool that we all get to enjoy it together. What is more amazing is that it’s the same big fat reliable moon that people have been looking at forever.
OH YAAS. THat’s a full moon frag for sure. (I only have a mini of the vintage stuff, and I save it for witchy weather. Whoa.)
Masque Milano’s L’Attesa!
September is Champagne grape harvest time! This has a champagne accord according to their website! Although to be honest, it smells more like yeasty bread or beer rather than champagne but wait, I can do that too! Beer is made from grain! AND tomorrow is the start of Oktoberfest!
Twins! This smells yeasty and bready to me too, in the best possible way. I love it.
Hi twin! I love it, too. 🙂
Started the day with a tiny spritz of Queen, now post spin/shower, I’m sporting Vetiver Tonka. Tonight will switch to MFK Grand Soir for dinner with friends.
Finally, FRIDAY????
amen to Friday!!!!!
Yes, and who knew I would be looking forward to MONDAY! ????
I know 🙂
Hooray, Friday!
What great perfume plans, too.
Thank you! I feel very productive wearing several perfumes in a 24 hour period. Now, if only I were
as productive in the world of housekeeping…????
Scent twins!
High 5, twin!
A three-scent Friday is the mark of a pro 😉
Hardly a pro, but I will concede to enthusiastic ????
You win 🙂
Pretty sure you have me beat in total number of sprays. I did 1 mini spritz of Queen, 4 blasts of VT, and 1 judicious pump of Grand Soir. That totals 6 sprays all day….yep, you left me in the dust????
Nah, I only did 2 of Tabac Tabou.
Wearing Demeter Rye Bread today. Happy harvest!
I can’t imagine how this smells, or that it’s pleasant. What’s it like? Most rye breads have a distinctly sour note that I’m not sure I’d want on my skin but maybe they left that out and focused on caraway or some other aspect?
It’s pretty much caraway– which I suppose you’d have to like a lot to wear. Luckily I’m one of those.
A couple of months ago I made an almond panna cotta that infused my house with a lovely almond fragrance that lasted for hours. My SOTD is SL Louvre, which is close, but a little too sweet for me. Any suggestions are welcomed!
Next time you make that panna cotta, you’ll have to save me a bit! Sounds delicious!!!
Luctor et Emergo!
It’s not pure almond and not that gourmand, but Lumiere Blanche is a fantastic scent. (I recommend it every chance I get.)
AnnS, next time I will definitely save you some! Elisa and Anniky, thanks for the recommendation. I will try them!
Jour de Fete by L’Artisan. Poor Jordan almomds, but light enough to layer. Yumm.
I’m wearing L’Artisan Dzing today. It smells like fresh hay and reminds me of Autumn.
Always a great choice! To me, it smells like a nice fur coat.
Yum! You smell delicious.
You smell great!
Miller Harris La Pluie, which has a wheat note. I don’t really smell it, and La Pluie is more tropical rain than autumn harvest, but it is lovely. I had a sample of Zadig & Voltaire, This is her! with a chestnut note, but smelling it on paper put me off it, I think it is the ‘cashmere wood’ whatever that is, that I find very sharp and unpleasant.
Twins!, It was the first rainy day in a long time here, and La Pluie was such a good choice, it was one of the perfumes that fascinated me, and drew me down the rabbit hole. I don’t notice the wheat note either.
Hi Mayfly, I had an inkling we would be twins today! La Pluie is gorgeous.
Vetiver Tonka for the Friday challenge. This is also for my challenge-within-a-challenge to wear VT for any Friday it fits the theme. Yes, I love it that much.
Such a great scent! Like your challenge.
????
I can’t believe how much of the post I had to read through to find someone wearing this! We are twins, and I absolutely reveled in it all day. So delicious and dirty.
I can’t believe I’m the first to wear En Passant today. Last night I had to change out the summer comforter for the heavier winter one, and I am so happy to welcome fall. It’s probably my favorite season.
Mine too.
You smell great. The weather today is perfect!!
you smell lovely.
Mine too!
I’d sort of intended to wear Fat Electrician, but when I was going through my ELdO samples Like This came to my hand first. So that’s what I’m wearing. I love the spicy, fizzy ginger start and the way it develops into something amber-orange and smooth.
Very harvest-appropriate, methinks!
Yes, I think so too. ^_^
In Prada Infusion de Mimosa today
Mmmm, I’m waiting for a sample of this from Saks!
TGIF…my little one (3 year old) started preschool this week…oh the feels! 😉
Wearing vintage Hypnotic Poison today which has a nutty accord per Fragrantica…
This is good stuff. I haven’t warn it in a while and it seems lighter than I remember. I put sunscreen on beforehand though and am sniffing my forearms where I sprayed…sunscreen seems to mess w/ many fragrances and this may be one of them.
Glad the perfume is getting you through the emotions of the week. They are just too cute as they start on their paths to independence. I hope you’re little one is enjoying it.
It must be the sunscreen 🙂 I have some vintage in a dab bottle and just the smallest drop can be detected miles away. It is potent stuff – and I’m one who drenches herself in vintage Poison. 😉
Love Hypnotic Poison, you smell lovely.
The ole KL. It’s actually spicy, not nutty, so I’m totally cheating, but, hey, the weather turned and it’s too darn cold for Fils de dieu, which was my plan.
I almost chose KL because it just smells like late Fall. I only have 2 or 3 sprays left, so it’s in permanent retirement. Hoping to someday replace it. KL is truly one of my all time favorites. You smell awesome!
I’ve only seen true Falll once in my life, but I agree, this perfume is like golden leaves, fireplaces being turned on and impossibly cold winds under blue skies. Very nice on a rainy, cool, early “spring” day in the tropics, too.
Blast from my past…vintage Karl Lagerfeld? Oh you DO smell good!
Thank you! I wish he would relaunch it. So fitting for today’s sensibilities, spicy and warm and yet transparent, delicious and stramlined. Perfection. Oh, uncle Karl…
I’m kind of on-target for harvest, but not for grain harvest. I’m in Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay. It’s one of those things that I tried and dismissed when it came out, but recently fell in love with.
That’s such a nice one.
For me it was instant love and I think it’s a great early autumn scent.
It’s a great transitional fragrance to fall and from spring to summer.
Sticking with my theme of scents too sweet and heavy for the weather, I am wearing SL Rahat Loukoum. I though about using a sample of KM Lokoum eau Poudree, but boy howdee is that a mess of sweet powder.
I am drinking some seltzer water.
🙂 Love your description of KM
I like the SL version much more than the KM one.
TDC “Aurore Nomade”- I’m tenaciously hanging on to summer with all my might!
I’m in Journey Woman. Something about the spiced and honeyed fruit and flowers in this makes me think of autumn. It’s utterly gorgeous outside today.
In Jardin en Mediterranee today. Oakland Fresca, I sympathize with your tired brain. I had to really rake through Fragrantica to find a nut fragrance I even had a sample of: it says this has a pistachio note. Who knew? Not me.
With all the talk of harvest time (despite the heat here) I’m recalling trips to Mercey Hot Springs in central CA. Heading home we’d always stop at the nut farmers’ roadside tents and stock up.
The only two scents with a grain note I have samples of, En Passant and Fils de Dieu are warm weather scents to me so didn’t suit. So nuts it is and Vetiver Tonka 🙂
You smell good.
You smell fab.
I’m wearing a chocolate scent today, Coquin Gourmand, and chocolate always tastes good with nuts! How about that for my project? 😉
Seriously, I just needed a good comfort scent today as I’m feeling the work pressures big time. This ‘fume fits the bill perfectly.
Grateful it’s Friday!
scent cousin ….I am in cocoa too! (on top of tobacco leaf!)
And what is that beauty called, pray tell?
Field Notes from Paris (tobacco leaf and orange blossom and patch) and I topped it off at work with Pacifica’s Mexican Cocoa (NUTmeg and almond 🙂 )
Yummmm, I may wear this tomorrow. It had been a super long week for me… Not necessarily for the number of hours but for the unexpected and some stupid stuff (ok, really, people).
Love this one, you smell great!
SOTD Fils de Dieu! The rice-pudding note is simply yummy.Sometimes Fils goes into Pledge woodpolish territory on me,but seeing that I love that smell I do not mind it at all!Happy Friday.and yes,TGIF!!
Love Fils de Dieu; you smell great!
I love rice pudding fragrances 🙂
Ah I totally forgot about the theme today. And I actually had an idea for it but that clearly went out the window. I was going to wear Bulgari Red Tea for its (alleged) walnut note, but instead I am wearing Marni Rose. It does have a cardamom note, though, and cardamom is a seed, so that at least kinda counts, right?
Why not 😉
I am wearing almonds as I went with Honore des Pres Sexy Angelic. I smell like a baby who spent the day giggling and now is sleeping.
That’s such a delightful image.
Sonoma Scent Studio Equestrian – apples & hay!
This sounds so good.
It’s one that I love more each time I wear it, especially now that the weather is starting to cool down.
SOTD is Vanille Absolument by L’Artisan. I don’t think there’s a grain note in there, but it is very fall-like to me. I’m just so happy that the weather is cooperating. It even feels a little like early autumn, in which SoCal is an absolute rarity this time of year!
For Harvest Moon Friday I’m in Elie Saab Le Parfum L’Eau Couture, which has a green almond note.
Have a great day, everyone!
I’ve never smelled this…may have to rectify. It may be available at Nordies.
It’s interesting. It’s a white floral with green almond and vanilla. Like the other ES scents, it’s by Francis Kurkdjian, so it has his signature orange blossom. Mine is a manufacturer’s sample, and until today I’d only sniffed it on paper. There’s something in it that doesn’t work for me that I couldn’t identify and couldn’t understand because I like orange blossom. I think I solved the mystery by looking at Basenotes, which lists magnolia as a note too, whereas Fragrantica doesn’t. That smells right (and would explain it since I don’t particularly like magnolia). But you should sniff it sometime and see what you think–particularly since it leans a bit gourmand when the vanilla shows up.
Wearing Dior’s Escale a Portofino, with its almond note. Refreshing in today’s humidity.
When I get home from a long meeting with a colleague to prep for a training, I’ll switch to Missoni 2006 — hazelnut ganache.
That’s the one I would have worn if I’d remembered to bring it with me – is “intent twin” a thing? You smell great regardless, and I’ll catch up when I get home. 🙂
i am wearing Epice Marine ( sesame, cardamon, cinnamon…) from a travel sample given to me by Waterdragon. I read Waterdragon’s post yesterday and was so moved by her generosity…and here I am enjoying this fabulous scent thanks to her. It’s actually spring here. The magnolias are incredible, the pollen drifts are magical, the kanuka is following ( it has tiny white snow-drop like flowers). My box of essential oils arrived in yesterday’s mail so I will try and make my Signal Hill walk perfume; pine, manuka, kanuka, lemon. I really need to know what oils give off a leather scent as that is how bracken smells ( blended with dusty leanut and fern). I don’t want my scent to be too fresh and piney but dusty and dry and leathery too. I think I might add sandalwood?
Do let us know how your blend turns out! Labdanum might make it dry and sandalwood is good too…and maybe cedarwood?
Looking forward to following the results of your blending 🙂
(Epice Marine is my absolute FAVORITE Hermessence and one of my favorite scents in general. Definitely on the FB wishlist.)
Vetiver has a bit of a leathery facet, and I think it can be dry in its drydown. I think the combo of vetiver and frankincense smells like dry earth, if that’s at all helpful.
Birch tar
I can’t wait to hear how your blending turns out!
I forgot to wear perfume to the office today and was very annoyed with myself. But I’m home now in Angel Muse (vetiver, hazlenut) and it’s perfect after five days of hard work. I hope it’s selling well.
When I went to Ulta to try SJP’s Stash, I thought “What the heck?” and tried a spritz of Angel Muse, too. Turns out I really like it (a surprise for a confirmed Angel-hater). Angel Muse is a lovely scent, you smell wonderful, and I hope it’s helping you feel comfortable and cozy now.
I didn’t wear it this week but it will get worn sometime next week. I love it!
SOTD is Laura Mercier Eau Gourmande Creme de Pistache – includes notes of pistachio nut, almond, praline, hazelnut and whipped cream – layered over philosophy Fresh Cream body lotion. I am creamy, nutty, yumminess today!
For those of you in the Chicago area who may be interested, Jeffrey Dame of Dame Perfumery Scottsdale will be in Chicago on Friday, 9/23 from 4-6 p.m. at Merz Apothecary Palmer House, 17 East Monroe Street; and on Saturday, 9/24 from Noon until 3 p.m. at Merz Apothecary Lincoln Square, 4716 North Lincoln Avenue.
wow you are sweet! LOVE the way YOU smell!
Meeting Jeffrey Dame would be a treat (were I a bit closer!) He is one of my favorite perfumers….I have spoken to him on the phone and he is a lovely individual…and as an aside Merz Apothecary is actually smallflower.com! Merz was a very old brick and mortar apothecary that was bought out by a family who decided to also sell online as smallflower….(so I read somewhere!)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merz_Apothecary
and there it is!
Thanks for posting this additional info! As a lifelong Chicago-area resident, I only knew that it’s been here forever but knew nothing else about its history. It’s located near the famous Old Town School of Folk Music in a small shopping area with a definite European flavor reminiscent of the neighborhood’s German heritage.
Yes, I’m really looking forward to meeting Jeffrey, I love his fragrances and his customer service is outstanding. I’m planning on treating myself to Chocolate Man for my birthday in a few months. In addition to Jeffrey, my favorite mystery writer has visited recently, and my favorite dulcimer player that I usually have to travel to the edges of Appalachia to see will also surprisingly be appearing in the Chicago area in a few weeks. It’s a rarity for any of these to be here, but, all three in a month’s time? I have certainly hit the trifecta this month!
I bet you smell amazing! By the time I decided to get Pistache, I couldn’t find it anymore. Also love Fresh Cream.
I think Sephora online might still sell it…
I got mine at Blue Mercury 4 years ago as I was spiraling down the rabbit hole. I’ve also seen it at Nordstrom and they may still have it.
I have two large spray samples I’ve had for so long I don’t even know where I got them? Today’s the first time I tried the fragrance; it’s quite strong – a little dab’ll do ya – so these will last awhile.
The LM sounds delicious. Is it very sweet?
It’s delicious and very sweet, but I love Tihota so my tolerance for sweet is stratospheric.
It’s sweet – and has additional notes of honey and caramel and a hint of dark chocolate – but like hajusuuri I have a high tolerance for sweet so I don’t find it overly so. It is, however, definitely a cool weather scent for me, and today was a tad too warm for it. Fragrantica reviewers compare it to Angel, and as it dries down I can smell the resemblance, but minus the patchouli.
No perfume for me yet, I’ll be spending part of my Saturday being pampered – I’ve booked in for a Guerlain facial at our local department store. It’s been about a year since I did that, so looking forward to it.
Enjoy the pampering!
Oh, so envious! Enjoy yourself.
Oo la la! Enjoy!
Was going to wear Fils de Dieu, but the weather turned surprisingly cool yesterday and has continued so today. Anyway, I couldn’t wait to try AG Sables, courtesy of the fabulous Hajusuuri, so that’s what I’m wafting today!
Oh boy! kevin’s review made me want to try it and when I FINALLY did it was LOVE! You smell fabulous!
Thank you! Yes, I’m starting to consider Kevin and Hajusuuri to be quite the dangerous duo… 😀
Hey FearsMice! What do you think? I spilled some on my hand when I was decanting and I walked around wafting spicy burnt sugar (in a good way). I’m almost positive that my bottle came from sweetgrass so thank you sweetgrass!
My tolerance/liking for sweet has grown tremendously over the last couple of years, so I wasn’t as shocked by SABLES as I might have been earlier. I rather like that burnt sugar note! Thanks to you AND to Sweetgrass!
I bought a decant of this over a year ago but have never worn it. Will make a mental note to do so this fall.
Elizabeth Arden Sunflower, because sunflowers are a major cash crop around here (though not as big as hay, corn, sugar beets, barley, and marijuana). Sometimes you see a whole golden field of them. They also bloom along the roadside this time of year.
Oh that ‘s a pretty one and so nice to see it mentioned here 🙂
Oh, I haven’t smelled this one in a long time! Every year my grandkids and I plant the giant ones in the middle of the veggie garden and they can be seen from inside the bedroom windows. When the goldfinches in their bright yellow summer plumage visit to enjoy the seeds hanging from the heavy heads in the late afternoon sunshine, it’s a sight to behold. At the end of the season, we leave some seeds for the birds, harvest some to roast and enjoy ourselves, and save some for next year’s planting. And so the cycle of life continues . . .
SOTD = ELdO’s Fils de Dieu du riz et des agrumes. I’m scent twins with a few folks here today.
Fils de Dieu du riz et des agrumes.
That has to be one of the best fragrance names of all time. It’s like a poem or a prayer. Love it.
SOTD = PdE Tabac Tabou 2015
On theme with hay and tobacco notes. I have a partial bottle (as I split this a year ago) and don’t wear it often and when I do, I only use 2 spritzes. This is pretty good and strong stiff. PdE is supposed to issue a limited edition each year., but it looks like there’s still 2015 stock left. As good as it is now, I wonder if it will get better with age or should I use it all up and switch to the new one when it becomes available? There’s probably no need to rush to purchase despite its LE designation.
I enjoyed this week’s challenge as it made me think more. I have more on theme perfumes lned up and may just keep gong with this theme without repeating. I must wear Angel Muse at some point!
Re: Harvest Moon. I saw the moon this morning. It was T H I S B I G. I’m not natural science geeky and won’t stay up to watch the eclipse.
Re: tomorrow – it is half-St. Patrick’s Day, are you celebrating? I am going to a restaurant tomorrow that will have traditional St. Patty’s Day food on the menu!
Now I need to read what everyone wore today!
Half St. Pat’s Day? Yay! I’ll bake some soda bread in the morning. Thanks for the PSA.
Baking the bread means you CHAMPIONED the challenge!
Leadville, CO (elevation 10,200 feet) used to hold a St. Patrick’s Day parade this weekend because it’s likely to be snowed out in March.
Oh wow, thanks for the tidbit! I’ll be sure to mention it to my dinner companions!
I would think the Tabac Tabou would age well and improve, since there’s no citrus top notes that are likely to go off.
I didn’t think of it that way. Thanks!
We are having a big family fund-raiser tomorrow afternoon for an organization I belong to, complete with catered Irish food and Irish music. I’ll definitely need to choose a green fragrance, most likely, Balmain Vent Vert, which is probably the greenest scent I own, with its giant bladt of galbanum.
Nice! So half St. Parrick’s Day IS a thing! Have fun!
NST is gloriously scented today.
I’m sniffing Missoni spritzed on a tissue, impatiently waiting for the gianduja to show up. Chocolate + hazelnuts = delicious. Thanks to Lindaloo for the reminder to get this one out today.
Alas, my nose felt tired this morning, so today I am otherwise unscented.
Happy weekend and harvest moon to everyone.
Waft on!
I saw an ad for Missoni in a recent magazine. Is it a reissue of the original or something altogether new? Anyone know?
There is a newer Missoni that smells of pear and flowers. The older one is flowers, chocolate, and hazelnut.
I went with Amouage Interlude Woman, although I can’t say I smell the walnut. Actually, I can’t smell most of the notes other people get, including the kiwi and honey and vanilla. What little sweetness I get is from the immortelle, and it smells very herbal to me, as does the fragrance overall. If I squint, I can make out some coffee. I’d tried it once before, and I suppose I did find it a bit chaotic, as promised by the ad copy. I thought maybe trying to focus on a particular note might help me make sense of it. Interlude isn’t unpleasant at all, but I feel as though I don’t really get it.
And I discovered something interesting when I was looking up the notes and skimming reviews, etc.: Fragrancenet currently has Amouage samples, cheap. (No affiliation.) I was very bad and went ahead and ordered everything they had that I’d particularly wanted to try. (Really, in the long run, it counts as saving money, surely. Almost certainly. I’m at least 51% convinced.)
Back later to read everything. Have a great weekend, everybody!
Donatella approves of what you did. If it saves you from buying blind, it’s free. Also, I think samples bought at a discount is perfumath free.
